Devastated by the loss of their mother, three teenagers discover a mystical realm where they must attempt to work together and overcome evil to return home. (Cadia: A World Within)

What inspired you to write Cadia? How did you come up with the idea?
I was in a musical with Keegan, Carly, and Tanner (our lead actors) and was trying to distract them backstage by coming up with movie plots. They really liked this one, so I took a few months, which became years, to write it out. I was heavily inspired by Harry Potter, Narnia – those mythical tales of hope in the face of darkness. I think those stories need to be told.

What do you want audience members to take away from seeing your film?
I just want the message of hope to go with them. It’s a story that encourages belief in the goodness of people. It’s definitely a film about faith, but one we wanted to keep inclusive to all people. We worked very hard, incidentally, to validate those who might have doubt in their faith journeys. To me, that’s an intrinsic element of faith. The two must coexist. So, in short, I’m hoping people walk away feeling loved and feeling like there is hope. I hope they walk away asking questions – I don’t have all the answers – and having meaningful conversations about what faith looks like in the face of doubt and pain.

How did you go about casting?
Did you already have certain actors in mind whilst writing?
I was definitely involved. One actor that I very much had in mind when writing was Corbin Bernsen in the role of Grandpa George, so I’m sure you can imagine my absolute joy when we signed him on to the film. As for James Phelps, I hadn’t at all thought of him, but when his name came up I instantly realized he was perfect for the role (which, for the record, he was). I always tend to write for certain actors, but that’s more to capture a certain voice or physicality. I feel like it gives my characters a space from which they can grow. We had online submissions and live auditions. I think our cast came from a fairly even mix of both. Some people had been in dozens of films while some had been in none. All of them were superb.

What – if any geeky hobbies do you partake in?
“If any.” Ha. You’re speaking to the Grand Champion of the Pokemon League, the Dragonborn, a pure Hufflepuff, a grey Jedi if there ever was one, the Ringbearer himself! I’m a big gamer. I once beat Pokemon Ruby with six level one hundred Mudkip. Love Skyrim. I played Quidditch in college – I was the captain of our team (for the record, we never lost a single game). I keep two lightsabers on my desk at all times. I just reread Lord of the Rings and fell back in love with Middle Earth. I’ve been told I’m doing my first Dungeons and Dragons session soon. I foresee myself as a bard, since I can’t keep my mouth shut or focus my energy.

James Phelps, Cadia

When did you know you wanted to be in the film industry?
I grew up wanting to perform. I always thought I wanted to be a singer or something, but I actually recently found a paper I wrote in sixth grade where I said that I was going to be an actor and filmmaker, so I guess it was around then. Seems weird to think about that, since I hadn’t even done a musical or anything at that point, but I guess it was in my heart. My parents encouraged us to perform and took us to dance lessons and everything, so it’s just a part of our family’s DNA. My siblings are ridiculously talented – Tori (my older sister) was wonderful at ballet, Salon (my twin sister) got a degree in dance and is also a strong actor, alongside having a great mind for business and working on Cadia as a script supervisor, and Austin (my younger brother) is a crazy good actor and singer. Honestly, he’s better than me. My father is a very funny actor on stage and has a nice baritone/bass voice, and my mother is a really nice alto. I’m really very lucky to have them all and have them be so supportive.

What is your Hogwarts house ?
Good gosh, I’m the dictionary definition of a Hufflepuff. I’m goofy. I’m loyal, sometimes to a fault. I strive to be honest. I love food. My name is Cedric, for heck’s sake. I think my secondary house would be Ravenclaw. I’m not smart enough to be a Slytherin and not dumb enough to be a Gryffindor. Yeah, I said it!

What advice would you give to fellow aspiring fantasy filmmakers?
Tell the story you want to tell. Fantasy means so many things to so many different people… It doesn’t need to have dragons. If it does, sick. I’ll watch it. But it doesn’t need it. To me, the fantasy element comes down more to the memorable characters and the elements of the world you’re creating. In Cadia, we see a world of hope and light and humor and anger and all the things we see in our own world, except these people are unfettered from society’s expectations. They’re free to be honest with themselves. They all legitimately believe in their mission – good or evil. Write the story you want to write. Make the magic you want to. It’s your world, dang it, and if people don’t like it, they can go home. Cadia isn’t to the scale of Narnia or Middle Earth, but it’s pure magic compared to Skia (our world in the Cadia universe).

Where can we see Cadia?
[It’s] currently being negotiated. We should have an answer soon. Keep your eyes open and follow us on social media to stay updated!

Quantum Mechanix is known for their intricate figures and detailed prop replicas. Their booth at San Diego Comic-Con was a glorious gallery of new and upcoming products. They also had a store in the back, where attendees could get their hands on merchandise (some of which, for the very first time).

This year’s con marked the debut of their Wonder Woman Q-Fig Max. The figure is super-detailed with a bunch of different pieces (don’t worry –  it comes pre-assembled). I loved that both Wonder Woman and her mount share the same determination in their eyes.

Q-Fig’s tendency to have a whimsical side. The Batman and Superman Friendship Q-Fig is a perfect example of that. The contrast in expressions between the two heroes is hilarious and I could not help but smile when I saw it.

There were also prototype Q-Fig’s from the world of Harry Potter on display. The Harry and Hagrid: Race for Hogwarts Q-Fig Max will be the most complex in the series to date.

The Harry Potter on the Broom Q-Fig was also impressive. Harry’s entire body as well as his broom balance on that translucent blue swirl of “wind.”

Here was a figure I never thought I would see: a Good Feathers Q-Fig. This was also a prototype.

Quantum Mechanix is also known from their plush Q-Pals line. The majority of the ones on display were prototypes, with the exception of Supernatural‘s Sam Winchester, Castiel, and Dean Winchester.

And I absolutely adore this plush Niffler from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Funny story about this little guy: Quantum Mechanix hadn’t planned on selling it at SDCC but they received a small shipment early. Initially, they were just going to have a prototype on display. Needless to say, this adorable beast sold out before Day Three (which is when I got there). The good news is fans like myself can sign up on their site to be notified when the plush comes in-stock.

There was plenty of Firefly merchandise to be found. I could not get over how much thought and detail was in every figure. Everyone’s clothes are made of real fabric. That trait is standard for the 1:6 articulated figures but it was especially impressive in this set because of the intricacy of their outfits.

While the majority of the 1:6 scale articulated figures were based to Firefly or Star Trek but there were a few outliers. One that excited me in particular was Westley from The Princess Bride. He comes with both his masked face when he is the Dread Pirates Roberts as well as his traditional Westley face (“As you wish!”).

Star Trek saw plenty of representation at Quantum Mechanix’s booth, from prop weapons and badges to Tribble plushes to the already-mentioned 1:6 articulated figures. What I was most impressed from this series was the Captain’s Chair. It was to scale with the articulated figures and – here is the coolest part –  the buttons work! They make sounds and light-up when pressed.

The booth was also home to a 1:72 scale miniature of Star Lord’s ship, the Milano, from Guardians of the Galaxy. Once again, detail was king. For example, you could look inside the cockpit and see the seats and the control panel.

I had a blast looking at all the goods that we can expect in the future from Quantum Mechanix. You can check out more of the products on their site.

I hope you have been keeping with your classwork in Defense Against the Dark Arts because the latest shipment in Loot Crate’s Wizarding World Crate line celebrates all things dark and evil. Included in this here box are items inspired by the likes of Dolores Umbridge, Percival Graves, and Tom Riddle. Grab your wand and robe and let’s dive in!

Even the box doesn’t beat around the bush about the contents’ theme. The opening seal as well as the box’s inside print both pay homage to the Death Eaters, followers of He Who Must Not Be Named.

Unlike previous months, where the contents list took the form of a scroll, this time’s is disguised as a letter. I suspect this may be a nod to one of the included items, the Chamber of Secrets stationery set. Note that every one of the items in this shipment is exclusive to Loot Crate.

First is the “wearable” starring Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘s Percival Graves. The shirt is adorned with his quote,”We’ve lived in the shadows for too long,” as well as the symbol of the Deathly Hallows, which was also found on the pendant he gave to Credence.

Next up is a dish set inspired by those found in Dolores Umbridges’ office. I want to point out that my particular set had an error and rather than four different plates, I received three – one with a duplicate. I was also dismayed to discover that, like that Naruto ramen bowl from Loot Anime, these dishes are effectively “display only.” They cannot be microwaved or soaked and must be hand-washed.

And now for the most impressive item in the box: an enamel pin designed to look like Tom Riddle’s diary. The pin itself has some heft to it and is accompanied by a dangling basilisk took. But here is the cool part: you can pierce the journal with the tooth, just like Harry did in The Chamber of Secrets!

Speaking of the Chamber of Secrets, the stationery set uses the Chamber’s door as a motif in its embossed cards (which are, admittedly a tad hard to see given that the paper is black) as well as its seal press. The set includes cards, envelopes, sealing wax, as well as the seal press. I get that the theme is supposed to be dark and moody but I think completely black cards aren’t all that practical.

The final item is the Azkaban pouch. The case is made to look like the prisoner plates from Azkaban, the wizard prison. It has a faux leather-like exterior that is lined in a black fabric and would make a great pencil case. When I took it out of the crate for the first time, it smelled slightly of paint but airing it out helped.

If this unboxing has you interested in subscribing, you can get some money off of your first crate either by following this link or entering “Geekscape” into the promo code area upon checkout.

[This unboxing was based on a sample provided by Loot Crate. All opinions are my own.]

When talking to a Harry Potter fan, the topic of Hogwarts houses is sure to come up. All Hogwarts students are sorted into the houses of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw upon there arrival at the Wizarding School. One of the fun features of Loot Crate’s Wizarding World Crate is the ability to register yourself to a particular house. If you have any trouble with that, I would suggest going to J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore, where you can be officially sorted by answering questions.

When signing up for the Wizarding World crate, I did find it curious that they asked for my house. But now, I see why. March 2107’s crate is all about celebrating house pride and some of the items are specific to whichever house you were sorted into. As you will see, I was sorted into Hufflepuff. Those who know me will not be shocked by this in the slightest.

The image of Hogwarts’ Sorting hat greets you upon opening the crate. It is joined by the icons for the various houses – griffin for Gryffindor, snake for Slytherin, badger for Hufflepuff, and raven for Ravenclaw.

As always, the item list is contained within a scroll that is closed with Wizarding World “seal.” The same pattern of the house mascots from the box can also be found on the backside of the scroll. The asterisks by the item names denote crate exclusives and funny enough, every piece in this shipment can only be found from the Wizarding World crate.

Each shipment thus far has included a pin and it makes perfect sense that this month’s would be the Sorting Hat. I will say this pin is substantially smaller than the previous ones and much lighter as well. All the same, I think the Sorting Hat might be my favorite of the pins so far.

The Hogwarts Express Lanyard is a fun accessory that I can see getting use at Universal Studios’ Wizarding World of Harry Potter perhaps but not much else. One side of the lanyard bears the image of the Hogwarts Express train along the familiar phrases of “Platform 9 3/4” and “The Hogwarts Express.” The other side is a tad less interesting, with a repeating pattern of the Hogwarts’ school crest. The crest is also seen on the lanyard’s dangling medallion. It was neat that the lanyard had a fake train ticket but the paper it was printed on is super-flimsy.

Next up is the Hogwarts Raglan. I have already worn this shirt and can attest to its comfiness. The Hogwarts’ crest is screen-printed on the front. It smelled a bit like paint when I took it out of the package but the odor soon dissipated.

Now we move on to the two house-specific items. As I mentioned earlier, I was sorted into Hufflepuff so these items will have the Hufflepuff house crest along with the house colors of black and yellow (a tad garish but nobody asked me).

First up is the duffle bag. It isn’t big enough for travel but would make a perfect gym bag. It has two layers of fabric and feels sturdy enough to handle daily use. The crest is a patch that feels like faux leather. It is not embroidered.

The final item, the beanie, is the one item that I feel really suffers from the Hufflepuff house color combo. I looks like I am wearing a taxi cab on my head.  The quality of the hat is fine. The fabric thick and stretchy enough to keep most head shapes warm in cold weather. Unlike the duffle, the hat’s crest is a thick embroidered one.

I think I liked the idea of this crate’s theme more than the items in it. They weren’t bad by any means and I already have made use of the raglan. However, I can’t shake the feeling that this could have been better. I am not sure what I was expecting but I don’t think this was it.

[This unboxing was based on a sample provided by Loot Crate. All opinions are my own.]

The previous Wizarding World Crate was one of my favorites of all those that I have unboxed. I dove into this month’s crate, bearing the theme “A Matter of Time,” with high expectations and I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed. Sit a spell and let’s pour over the contents!

Upon opening the crate, I was greeted with the image of Hermione’s Time Turner on the upper flap. It was a bit more understated than the previous month’s design but I think that I liked it better.

The first step was to unfurl the scroll that detailed the crate’s contents. The stars next to the titles denote the item’s exclusivity to the crate. I was impressed that, besides the Funko POP! figure, everything fell under that category.

Given this month’s theme, a Time Turner necklace seems like an obvious inclusion. The inner portion of the necklace flips around, as one would expect, although not all the parts move. The Time Time hangs on a leather cord with an adjustable metal clasp. I can see this being a fun everyday accessory to show off your fandom.

Speaking of everyday accessories, I was particularly impressed by the Deathly Hallows Pocket Watch. For starters, it is a real pocket watch, not some decorative piece. The chain it comes on is long enough that you can still check the time while wearing it on your neck.

While not as useful as the pocket watch, the Harry Potter Prophecy Pin still looked pretty, with its milky material in the crystal ball and faux antique metal finish. The pin is relatively heavy, though.

My favorite of the included items was the pair of Platform 9 3/4 Socks. They just looked fanciful and fun.

I got a little teary-eyed at this shirt but I imagine I am not the only one. The memorable quote combined with the picture of Alan Rickman as Snape just really nailed it. It doesn’t hurt that the shirt itself is also very soft.

Like the previous Wizarding World crate, a Funko POP! figure was included. Possibilities included Ron or Hermione dressed for the Yule Ball, Luna Lovegood, or Sirius Black. As you can see, I received Hermione in her Yule Ball gown. This was the only item in the crate that was not a Loot Crate-exclusive.

Loot Crate has so far succeeded in providing a quality subscription box with its Wizarding World crate. Every item chosen in this month’s crate was meaningful and of good quality. I can’t wait to see wait is coming up next!

The previous two months of Loot Wear crates, for the most part, haven’t wowed me. The quality has been fine, and all but the licenses used just weren’t within my realm of interests. That completely changed with this month’s shipment. Bearing the theme “Magical,” the titles included are Kingdom Hearts, Harry Potter, Dr. Strange, and Adventure Time.

lootwearnov16-khscarf

My favorite item from this month is the Kingdom Hearts Icons Scarf. It is very soft and consists of several layers, providing a considerable amount of warmth. It is a nice, subtle way to show your love for the game series in the cold weather months.

lootwearnov16-harrypottersocks

Dobby would have loved these. The Harry Potter socks are so freaking cute I don’t know whether to put them on my feet or frame them! The print bears a mix of the story’s characters (Hedwig in the cage!) along with spells. Expecto Patronum!

lootweardnov16-hogwartsloungepants

Harry Potter‘s other item is the Crest Logo (lounge) pants. Like the lounge pants found in this month’s Loot Anime crate, these are made of a light jersey fabric. The four Houses in Hogwarts are represented here: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. One neat detail about the print on the pants is that House crests are made to look like patches with faux stitching around the edging.

lootweardnov16-drstrangesocks

The second pair of socks is themed to Doctor Strange with the Eye of Agamotto on the top of each. These would make a fun accessory to a cosplay outfit.

lootwearnov16-drstrangeshirt

Building on the the whole “ugly Christmas sweater” trend, Loot Wear included a Doctor Strange shirt that imitates sweater patterns. In all honesty, the shirt graphic more brings to mind NES graphics rather than the stitches on a garment. It is still nifty, though.

lootwearnov16-adventuretimeunderwear

I think it is combination of my not wearing men’s underwear and lack of interest in the Adventure Time series that adds up to this pair of Earl of Lemongrab underwear being the least cool item in the crate. All things considered, five out of six is a pretty dang good.

On December 1st, The Ambassador Theatre Group released a press statement, indicating plans to bring the London Production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to New York.

Sonia Friedman and Colin Callendar, producers of the staged production, along with J.K. Rowling creator of the Harry Potter franchise confirmed that they are in talks with ATG to bring the production to the States with a slated start in Spring of 2018.

“We are thrilled about ATG’s ambitious plans which will provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a unique theatre space tailored to the specific needs of the production over the play’s two parts,” said Friedman and Callender. trio

After coming to New York in September, the team settled on the Lyric Theater, which now houses Cirque Du Soleil’s Paramour. The 1,900 seat theater will be downsized to 1,500 seats. The deduction is to fit the more dramatic feel of The Cursed Child.

“But above all, ATG’s plans will provide Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with a bespoke home that will be intimate enough for a drama, yet big enough for us to deliver on our commitment to provide audiences with access to low priced tickets throughout the auditorium.”

The auditorium won’t be the only renovation the theater will have. The front of the house will also be renovated, which was a large selling point for the team.

‘We know the moment people walk through the door, the experience begins.’12-_harry_potter_and_the_cursed_child__photo_credit_manuel_harlan

While there are no dates as of yet, updates are to be announced sometime in the future.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is presented in two parts, with the beloved characters of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as adults. Harry deals with things in the past that refuses to stay in the past and his son Albus deals with being a Potter – the family legacy he never wanted.

For more information on the play visit the show’s site,  HarryPotterthePlay.com.

Sound off below, if you’re excited for the show’s transfer to the Great White Way. Do you think it will work? Also if you’ve seen the show #KeepTheSecrets.

Thanks to our friends at Loot Crate, I was able to open a box that may very well be the closest thing that I will get to a Hogwarts admission letter: The Wizarding World Crate! This subscription box is packed with goodies inspired by the magical creations of J.K. Rowling, specifically Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. November 2016 marked the launch of this particular subscription series. Let’s have a look!

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-boxoutside

lootcratewizardingworldov16-boxinside

As unassuming as the outside of the box is, there is still a hint of the magic within. In order to open the crate, you need to break a seal that reads “Muggle Worthy.” Pop open the hood and you are greeted with “I want to be a wizard” printed on the inside.

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-scroll

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-scrollunfolded

Much like the posters found in the Loot Anime crates, there was a scroll included that detailed the items found within this shipment. I was pleasantly surprised by the effort that went into such a tiny part of the package. When you first find it, it is rolled up with a sticker “seal” on it. Touches like this add to the feel that this box truly came from another world.

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-owl

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-owlside

What is a wizard without their owl? Included in this crate was a Pigwidgeon Owl plush. He is soft and well-made. I also appreciated the Harry Potter-licensed tush tag. If you must know, I named mine Archimedes.

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-keychain

Speaking of owls, also found within was a rather hefty keychain depicting a letter from Hogwarts (I guess I did get one, didn’t I?) and an owl. There is also leather tassel to make it all fancy-like. Flip the letter charm over and it has the Harry Potter logo.

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-shirt

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-shirtdetail

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hit theaters this month so it makes sense that the majority of the items be related it. Perhaps the most eye-catching is the shirt, which has the front page from the wizard publication, The New York Ghost. The amount of detail put into the image is surprising. I could tell a lot of time went into the design.

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-journalfront

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-journalback

One of the fancier items was a MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) journal. The pages are unlined with gold leaf around the edges. The very last page has an interesting image that appears to be a map of the United States with spell hotspots. The picture reads “Real Time Hex Indicator.” This was a special touch that I felt added more authenticity to the item.

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-funkopop

If you have ever been to a convention (or a Hot Topic, for that matter), you know that Funko POP! figures are kind of a big deal to many collectors. In this box, you have a chance of getting one of five Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them POP!’s: Newt Scamander, Tina Goldstein, the Niffler, Albus Dumbledore, or Jacob Kowalski. My package included Tina Goldstein. I will note that paint job on mine got a little sloppy near the wand, with some of the skin tone color making on to the wand portion.

I actually think this is the least interesting of the items included in the crate. There isn’t much to POP!’s in terms of design and they can easily be found in other stores.

lootcratewizardingworldnov16-pin

The final item is the Bowtruckle lapel pin. The accessory depicts Newt Scamander’s Bowtruckle, Pickett, peeking out from a pocket, as it does in the new movie. The pin itself has a good weight to it and seems to be of good quality.

Loot Crate’s Wizarding World Crate surpassed my expectations. The thoughtful collection of items were fun to open and I loved that each part truly felt tied to J.K. Rowling’s works. I whole-heartedly recommend this crate to anyone looking for a touch of magic in their lives!

If this unboxing has you interested in subscribing, you can get some money off of your first Crate either by following this link or entering “Geekscape” into the promo code area upon checkout.

With a darkness at its heart that even Harry Potter didn’t see, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an exciting, lush plunge back into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. The story, unlike anything we’ve ever seen from Rowling, and despite its sometimes grim tone, is a true delight to behold.

In 1926, magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) stops in New York City to see a breeder of exotic creatures, but is waylaid when a No-Maj (North American wizards’ word for non-magical folk) accidentally picks up his case full of magical beasts. Obviously, it doesn’t take long for a number of the creatures to escape, adding a little extra chaos to a city already terrified of a malevolent force literally tearing its streets and buildings apart. Newt and the No-Maj, Jakob (Dan Fogler), set out to recapture the creatures, which include an invisible ape (otherwise known as a Demiguise), and an enormous, explosive rhinoceros (Erumpent). They’re given aid and shelter by two sisters, Porpentina and Queenie Goldstein (Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol), and it isn’t long before the group face dangers they never expected.

Played by the utterly charming Redmayne, Newt isn’t an extraordinary man, and is certainly not a Chosen One. More akin to Harry Potter’s best friend Ron than to Potter himself, he is a refreshing, modest screen hero amongst a slew of post-apocalyptic rebels (with his unique, unassuming performance, I couldn’t help but wonder what Redmayne could have done in the titular role of the main Potter series). As former magical law enforcement officer, Waterston’s Tina is brittle – her confidence left her some time ago, and we’re left to ponder what happened in her past to dull her light. Scene-stealers Fogler and Sudol shine as Jakob and Queenie. He’s wide-eyed and full of wonder at every new surprise the Wizarding World throws at him, while she is wholly enchanting as Tina’s psychic sister. At once motherly and flirtatious, Sudol’s beguiling smile will surely bewitch you, just as it does – well, I don’t want to spoil you.

Unlike the original Potter films, Fantastic Beasts allows more time for wonderment at the pure magic of its world. Through the eyes of Jakob, we’re allowed generous stretches of time to soak in what we’re seeing, and the sheer unrealness of this new reality. And those breathers are needed, as director David Yates takes the film to some undeniably grim places. In the politically turbulent climate into which it is released, Fantastic Beasts hauntingly echoes our own world; politicians who dodge accountability, corrupt law enforcement, hate groups masquerading as religion, and mistreated outsiders trying desperately to find a way into the fold. Rowling’s script doesn’t pull any punches as it pushes you headfirst into a scarier, and altogether more industrial Wizarding World than the safe haven of Hogwarts.

The film is dense, with several action lines chugging along at once, so one can imagine that it would richly reward repeat viewings. First time around, however, you’d best strap yourself in for your long-awaited return to this most beloved of fantasy worlds.

In 1997, the world was introduced to Harry Potter, the orphaned boy who was whisked off to magic school when he turned 11. Over the next ten years, author J.K. Rowling wove a breathtaking story of spells and sorcery, prophecy and romance, and the importance of bravery in all its forms. Along the way, the sales of Harry Potter books tallied in the hundreds of millions, and spawned a blockbuster film series. Now, here we are almost 20 years after the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and it feels like perhaps we’ve entered a brand new phase of the fandom. While the final volume of Harry’s story was published in 2007, and the conclusion to the film series was released in 2011, Harry Potter still trends on social media on a regular basis, and creates major news stories around the world. As we happily drink in the new facets of the fandom, the question arises: is this a new age of Harry Potter?

Earlier this year, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened on London’s West End. Coinciding with the opening, the production’s rehearsal scripts were released as a hardcover book. Stamped in multiple places on the book is a seal designating the script as belonging to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. The appearance of this seal signals a shift in the fandom as we are given more and more information about the storyworld Rowling meticulously crafted in the Potter books; it seems that after years of longing to know more about the Wizarding World, we’re going to get our wish.

Just days from now, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will be released in cinemas around the world, kicking off a brand new series of films, set decades before Harry and his friends were even born. Not only are we getting the chance to see a new period within this world, we’re going to be immersed in an entirely new setting: a magical America. In the Potter books, we knew that the Wizarding World extended beyond just the United Kingdom, but we saw very little of this for ourselves. We already know that Fantastic Beasts will take place primarily in New York City in the 1920s, but with the recent confirmation that Johnny Depp has been cast as the infamous Gelert Grindelwald for a number of the follow-up films, came the news that the timeline of this new series will span about 19 years. This story, originally announced as a trilogy, is now set to be told over five films, setting it apart as more than a standalone spinoff. With Grindelwand and a young Albus Dumbledore in the mix, you can expect a truly epic story fresh from Rowling’s own pen.

Speaking of new lore from Rowling, since 2011, the Harry Potter community has seen a steady stream of fascinating stories, histories, and character profiles on Pottermore. Originally an interactive experience taking users through the books one chapter at a time with games, puzzles, and competitions, Pottermore has always been revered for the tantalizing glimpses beyond Harry’s story that were unlocked as progression rewards. In 2015, however, the site did away with much of the interactive components (eventually reinstating the Sorting quiz in 2016), flattening the site into an easily accessible encyclopaedia of sorts; full of new writing from Rowling, as well as Potter news.

While Pottermore originally featured new information and stories about characters from within Harry’s story – especially those only on the periphery – in 2016, it published a slew of new information about the Wizarding World in the USA. After a rich history of magic in North America was laid out, Pottermore published an account of how the first magical school in the states, Ilvermorny, came to be. Showing that she can still weave an exciting tale of magic, intrigue, and friendship, Rowling’s account of the school is some 5,000 words, and introduces brand new characters, creatures, and lore. Rowling’s Wizarding World has grown.

Across the pond, in London, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continues to thrive, with tickets being released for as far away as February 2018. By all accounts, the production is a spellbinding marvel, with enchanting theatre craft, nuanced performances, and a captivated audience. The announcement of the two-part play’s scripts publication brought about celebration within the Potter fandom. When the big night came, the world saw a joyful return of midnight bookstore release parties – costume contests and Wizard Rock made glorious, welcome comebacks. A new addition to these celebrations were the new parents who grew up reading Harry Potter, and had brought along their young children to experience the magic for themselves. One of the most revered experiences in the fandom had come full circle. Despite the fans’ mixed reactions to the script itself, the opportunity to reconnect where it all began – in a bookstore – was magical.

Famously borne of musings upon a delayed train, Harry Potter began as a scrawny boy wizard, and eventually grew into the worldwide phenomenon credited with turning an entire generation back to reading. Though the story concluded nine years ago, it feels like we truly are entering a new age of Harry Potter. And I couldn’t be more excited for what comes next.

Well, this is an odd, but interesting announcement.

According to an exclusive from Deadline , Johnny Depp has officially signed on with Warner Bros. to co-star in the 2018 sequel to this years Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. While there are a couple of fans suggesting that Depp could be playing Grindlewald, another group of fans suggesting that he could in fact be playing a young Dumbledore instead. This may incite rage into some people, but honestly there is hope for Depp. While he hasn’t exactly been on a role with his more recent film appearances, people tend to forget that Depp really was a powerhouse actor.

An actors only as good as his Director, and that’s exactly what he needs, which is someone to keep him from going too overboard with his roles. Anyways, what do you think about the casting? Do you think this is a good idea? Tell us in the comments below!

Briefly: We’re still about three months away from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them even hitting theatres, and Warner Bros. has already revealed just when we’ll be seeing the sequel.

The first film hits theatres on November 18th, while the second will hit theatres just shy of two years later, on November 16th, 2016.

Rowling will take care of the screenplay, and Potter regular David Yates will return for the sequel as well.

In any case, it’s pretty clear that once again the world has Potter fever; The Cursed Child has just released and according to Scholastic has already sold over two million copies, there are entire Harry Potter theme parks that are drawing record crowds, and the light rumours of a Harry Potter mobile game in the style of Pokemon Go are setting the internet on fire.

Maybe it’s time for a re-read, don’t you think?

A visit to J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore site today yields a new Sorting Ceremony for hopeful wizards and witches. This time, you can discover your House for the United States-based magic academy, Ilvermorny. Will you be sorted into Horned Serpent, Pukwudgie, Thunderbird, or Wampus? Take the quiz and find out! It should be noted that you must have a Pottermore account to participate and with the recent site update, old accounts have been discontinued. You can still connect your old account to your new one but it requires that you remember your previous username (and given that those were randomly generated, good luck with that). My username was unfortunately lost to antiquity and I had to start all over, new Hogwarts House and all (I was sorted into Slytherin initially but this time, it was Hufflepuff).

The post on the “news” portion of the site describes the beasts representing the different houses. The Horned Serpent is “great horned river serpent with a jewel set into its forehead.” The Pukwudgie is “a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature.” The thunderbird is monster bird that “can create storms as it flies.” And finally, the Wampus is “a magical, panther-like creature that is fast, strong and almost impossible to kill.”

What house did you get sorted into? Let us know in the comments!

Just when we thought we’ve seen enough incredible trailers, Warner Bros. gives us another.

Inspired by the book published in 2001, Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them takes place in 1926 (65 years before Harry Potter sets foot onto Hogwarts) and centers on Newt Scamander–a magizoologist who just completed a world-wide excursion to find and document all the magical creatures he could find. Upon arriving in New York, his magical briefcase–containing some of the creatures he’s discovered–is misplaced. With the possibility of those magical beasts running amuck throughout the city, Newt must find a way to get his briefcase and the creatures back before disaster strikes both muggle and wizarding communities alike.

Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments below! Will we get to see a young Albus Dumbledore? What other Harry Potter characters would you want to see? We will find out later this year when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes to theaters November 18, 2016!

Briefly: Are you ready to return to the Wizarding World?

Warner Bros. today released the very first trailer for next year’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and while I’m not overly familiar with the property (or most of Harry Potter, actually), I have to say that this teaser has certainly piqued my interest.

Of course, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a text that Harry (and friends) read in school, and the film takes us back to 1926 New York to show us how the book’s author, Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander, finds, loses, and finds the creatures again.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see in the feature. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theatres on November 18th, 2016.

After many months of construction and anticipation, the wait is finally nearing its end. Universal Studios Hollywood has revealed that it’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open on April 7th, 2016. The date was announced today in a special video hosted by Alan Gilmore, the films’ art director, and Evanna Lynch, the actress who portrays Luna Lovegood.

Hollywood’s Wizarding World (dubbed “Wizarding World West” by some fans) will have many of its East Coast relative’s features. Eateries will include Three Broomsticks and Hog’s Head.  Shoppers can look forward to browsing through Ollivander’s, Honeyduke’s, and The Owl Post, among others. Those visiting the theme park prior to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s opening can still purchase a variety of the Wizarding World merchandise, including those wands and house robes, at the Features Presentation shop, just inside the main entry gates.

You want rides? You got ’em! Family-friendly The Flight of the Hippogriff will be Universal Hollywood’s first open-air roller coaster. The park will also feature something extra-special. The 3D-thrill ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, will make its U.S. debut there. Guests, with aid of 3D goggles, embark on an all-new adventure, complete with a ride system on an elevated track.

Are you planning a visit to Universal Studios Hollywood for the opening? Tell us in the comments!

Harry Potter has returned in a new short story by J.K. Rowling posted on the Pottermore website.

Set in the 2014 Quidditch world cup, written from the perspective of everyone’s favorite love-to-hate journalist, Rita Skeeter, the story allows for quick glimpses into the lives of the now 34-year old Harry and his circle of friends.

A graying Harry–with a mysterious scar on his cheek–attends with his wife, Ginny, with Ron–who’s hair appears to be thinning–and Hermione. Some of the details come close to depressing–Harry and Ginny’s marriage seems a little rocky, for one–but since this is being written by Skeeter, its hard to tell what is snark and what is actually the true state of affairs.

The story–the first time Rowling has written directly about the main characters of the Harry Potter series since the last book was released–is part of series of World Cup stories that Rowling has posted to the the Pottermore site, meant to coincide with the actual World Cup in Brazil.

Rowling is also working on a new movie set in the Potter universe, based on the textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which follows the adventures of the author, Newt Scamender. The movie marks Rowlings debut as a screenwriter.

Spoiler Alert; School kind of sucks.

If it’s not piles of homework, than its lackluster lunch options or constant bullying (maybe that was just me). How many times did you find yourself sitting in the back of the class listening to a professor drone on and on but in the back of your mind thinking “I wish there was another option.” If only there was a school filled with classes that I could pass, then I wouldn’t be grounded every weekend.

The world of Pop Culture has shown us that there are other options and all of them are fair better than regular school. Schools filled with magic, crazy frats, clones and cartoons. Who wouldn’t rather blow off Math in order to take potions? What better Principal to have than a mad scientist? What about a campus where you can form a frat for absolutely any interest you have? Television, Movies and Literature have filled our imagination with a never ending list of schools we wish we could declare as our alma mater.

Now let us play tribute to those schools that are (sadly) too awesome to really exist.

 PCU-movie-f02

10 : Port Chester University (PCU)

When picking any college you want to avoid one whose general awesome level depends solely on a specific group of people or frat-house (hence why you won’t find Adams College or Faber College here). PCU almost didn’t make the cut for that very reason. But then, I rewatched PCU. Have you seen this movie lately? Sure, the people in the Pit are the best people out there but this school has a frat house for EVERYONE. Feminists? Got it. Hippies? No Problem. Bigots? There’s even a frat for you. Plus the frats literally run the school.

While other schools are struggling to get ten people to participate in any event, at Port Chester University you book your lame local band to play your dorm and everyone will show up (but you better have chips or they will raise hell). Even more bizarre is that almost the entire school is made up of fans of Funk-God George Clinton. This might be the biggest plus of all, you ever hear Parliament Funkadelic at a non-teen movie party? No. Last time I tried to play “We Want the Funk” at a party I was booed a minute in, and that is truly a travesty.

zoolander_school_1

9 : Derrick Zoolander’s Center For Kids Who Cant Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too (Zoolander)

Don’t be fooled by it’s tiny appearance, we promise that’s just a model of the facilities. Upon completion the school is truly a masterpiece of architecture and potentially one of the wonders of the world. Outside this luxurious learning center you are greeted by a fountain containing four statues in the midst of a gasoline fight, and that alone is almost grounds for this school’s inclusion of this list. However the statue is but a small sample of this school’s charm.

Once you get inside you realize your instructors are none other then world famous models Derek Zoolander and Hansel (It’s shocking the school convinced him to take time away from modeling to teach considering how hot he is right now). Your class schedule seems to be anything but ordinary. During Derek’s pitch apparently what he meant by “other stuff kids wanna do good too” were things like rock climbing (as that’s what we see Hansel teaching).

Doesn’t it just make your mind run rampant with all the possibilities of what you could learn at this school! Let’s be honest it’s pretty obvious this school is willing to teach you anything. You just have to want to be better at something and not be able to read good either.

 SHofTechFront

8 : South Harmon Institute of Technology (Accepted)

Whats’ not to love about South Harmon Institute of Technology (or S.H.I.T for short). Their school colors are brown. Their school mascot is a sandwich. Their school news paper is called the rag. The school also has a killer outdoor pool. All my college had was a football field and a bunch of statues.

As a student you have full control over dictating your course load, and by full control we mean it. You literally can invent a class for whatever it is you wish to learn (for example there is a student majoring in blowing stuff up with his mind). It’s a lot like Derek Zoolander’s Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too except it doesn’t require the prerequisite of not being able to read. South Harmon Institute of Technology’s only restriction as to choosing your major is to what extreme you as the student can go in creatively making one up (I call dibs on the History of Nonexistence).

In a lot of ways going to South Harmon is like getting a degree in Liberal Arts, except there’s a chance your professor will be Lewis Black. So actually, it’s exactly like a Liberal Arts school.

 sideways-stories_5

7 :  Wayside School (Wayside School Book Series)

Anyone who ever read the wayside book series wished they could attend this school.  First off it has the largest playground of any school around due to the fact the school was built upwards due to an architect who looked at the blue prints wrong. Instead of building a one-story building with 30 classrooms he built a 30-story building with one classroom each floor. That’s a pretty important factor to anyone young enough to attend elementary school.

The ridiculousness of this school doesn’t reside in just its ridiculous stature. Once inside you find an astonishing amount of insanity whether it be the paradox that there is no thirteenth floor yet there is a classroom on that same floor, or the fact that if you enter the basement you no longer have to attend class ever again.

 512575-looniversity

6 : Acme Luniversity (Tiny Toons)

Let’s cut right to the chance, The Looney Toons are your instructors, and you take classes about comedic timing. Is there any thing more to say that will sell you on this school? This has to be one of the easiest (not to mention most fun) schools ever institutionalized.

Watch a few episodes of Tiny Toon Adventures, there is no campus on this planet with a better student/teacher relationship. Students literally are scheming with their teachers every other episode. I wonder what the AP classes would be like. I’d assume they would tackle such intense topics like falling off a cliff with grace as instructed by Wile E Coyote.

monsters1

5 : Monster U (Monster University)

We are not too sure if Monster U has many majors other then those involving scaring children, but we’re confident most of those classes would be pretty fun. Your homework assignments basically revolves around coming up with ways to terrify children, that’s a dream come true for anyone who loves Halloween. You don’t even really need to study. Look at Mike Wazowski, he studies night and day but fails to be better than the other less studious students when it comes to the ability to scare anyone.

Classes aren’t the reason to attend Monsters U though, it’s all about the annual scare games. The scare games are to Monster University what Greek Week is to regular campuses. But while Greek Week  can come across as very abstract to others outside the Greek system the scare games stay inclusive to the whole campus. This is probably due to the previously stated fact that we are fairly certain every job in this world revolves around the art of scaring children. With exciting competitions like Avoid the Parents and Don’t Scare the Teen it’s impossible to not get sucked into the festivities. If you lived in a world of Monsters this would be like your Olympics.

 clone-high-usa

4 : Clone High (Clone High U.S.A.)

There’s a good chance you’re not familiar with Clone High U.S.A. That’s because MTV killed it four episodes in. However the premise (from the people who brought you Scrubs and The Lego Movie) is magical.

For reasons unknown a group of shadowy figures have cloned every famous world leader and they’re all in high school together. There’s the nerdy Abe Lincoln, the Jock JFK, the gothy Joan of Arc and the party animal Ghandi. Every day is chaos. Your principal is a mad scientist with a robot butler, every week there’s some fun activity (Film Festival, Track Meet, Basketball game) and Teen Wolf is one of the students (not making that up).

However the biggest appeal to Clone High for me is their winter holiday. They’ve gotten rid of all Religious specificity and created Snowflake Day. Snowflake Day involves a pirate with a candy cane for a hand and a yearly Snowflake Day Cabbage Patch. Now that’s a holiday I can get behind!

Greendale e pluribus anus

3 : Greendale (Community)

The great thing about Greendale is that everyone at Greendale is fully aware of how insane that school is.  Dean Pelton is just the tip of the iceberg with his affinity for Dalmatians and women’s clothes.

A quick glimpse at the courses you can take and the professors that teach them makes it utterly obvious that everyone at this school was cut from the same mold. Where South Harmon Institute allowed you the pleasure of creating any class you’d like to learn Greendale has gone ahead and invented those classes for you before you even get there.  Classes on ladders, billiards, holding your breath, pottery and seizing the day are just what we’ve seen in the first season.

Greendale is less a university and more a social center for learning new hobbies. If by chance you are someone who likes their college a little less studious and a little more social then Greendale is still the place for you. They pretty much have a social event or dance every week, as well as have had full student body participation of paintball games on more then one occasion. They also may be the only community college with dorms which really sells the full college experience.

 Dhogwarts

2 : Hogwarts (The Harry Potter Series)

Hogwarts is a given on a list like this, however most people will probably have a problem with it being second place and not top honors.  The reason is that the problems with attending Hogwarts can sometimes outweigh the benefits.

Sure it would be pretty amazing if you checked your mailbox one day and inside found a wax sealed envelope inviting you to attend Hogwarts. However before you go bragging to all your friends don’t forgot that you can’t tell anyone about going to this school except for your family. You have to hide the fact that magic exists from the non magical world. In other words to all your friends you just disappear for nine months out of the year.

Plus the coursework doesn’t lend itself to any jobs outside of the magic community, and let’s be honest other then becoming teacher or working for the ministry of magic there aren’t many high profile careers in magic. Also don’t even think about exploring your options outside of magic either due to the fact that according to Hogwarts you don’t need fundamental classes like English and Mathematics (which definitely seems odd as you’d assume math would be crucial in potion making).

Did we forget to mention that you also need to watch out for everything that’s designed to kill you (which is basically everything in the school). The staircase are constantly moving, the school sport has a high injury level, werewolves are teachers, even the trees at this school are trying to kill you.

Despite all of the faults though, who doesn’t want to learn how to fly on a broom or turn their enemies into a rat!

 Sky high (9)

1 : Sky High (Sky High)

Sky High, for anyone unaware, is a school for the offspring of superheroes. The school allows their students to hone their budding super skills. This school has a fantastic track record, only once in the history of Sky High has a student not developed a power.

Even if you don’t develop a super power it still means one or both of your parents have super powers which is pretty awesome. Now you may think that being a super hero has the same issue as being a Wizard (secret identities and all) but in the world of Sky High the rest of the world is fully aware that superheroes exist.  Not only do regular citizens know superheroes are real but they love them.

Even if you end up as “hero support” (aka sidekick) and have the worst super power ever discovered you will still be looked  up to by the 99% of the world population without any powers. The movie’s example of a horrible super power is one kid can glow, that’s it. Sure while that’s a pretty weak super power it still comes with a few benefits, like if he was to go hang out at a rave, those people would adore him.

The news is amazing and shocking to Harry Potter fans across the world.

J.K. Rowling and Warner Brothers announced today that they will be adapting some of the characters in her Harry Potter textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them”. While the films will not likely feature Harry or any of the main characters, the movie will focus on the many tales, fables and faux histories contained in the book.

Rowling will write the screenplay for the film.

“‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” Rowling’s statement said.  “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry’s gets underway.”

So the story will take place in the United States, long before Voldemort and Harry even meet. But who knows…maybe there will be a little part for a younger Dumbledore? Fans can only hope.

Are you excited about this new world of Harry Potter news, or do you think they ended things perfectly? Let us know, and we’ll share more information as soon as it’s available!

With all the booming new stores on this little thing called the internet, it can be difficult to sort through all the possibilities for purchase. So let Geekscape be your guide. In the traditions of old, we’ll help you figure out what to take to make it a little less dangerous.

“A new lease on life for books.”

Retro Beads & Bangles offers you a recycling opportunity that looks adorable AND literate. Using book pages to make jewelry is not unique to the internet (as you’ll see below), but Retro also branches into brooches, bracelets, the using of sheet music, and old board-game pieces to make unique and specialized accessories for every day. “What a novel idea!”

Pretty Little Charms, also out of the UK, offers similarly recycled book jewelry. The categories featured here are Game Of Thrones, JK Rowling, Mortal Instruments, Divergent + Twilight, The Hunger Games, Narnia + LOTR, Alice in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, Sherlock + Classics, and Dictionary/Other. The charms feature different shapes, as well as colors: some heart-shaped in silver, others a beautiful copper with a steampunk-like accessory hanging off of the main jewelry. Compasses accompany sections of map and silver wolf heads sit next to “direwolf”. It’s all very appropriate and well placed. Pretty Little Charms also offers rings in pairs, offering a chance to celebrate your favorite geeky ship either with your special someone or all on your own if you’re greedy.

The charms that come with the sections of words, and the choice illustrations for others, are really what makes Pretty Little Charms’ selection glow. You can carry your favorite character or phrase along with you in stylish fashion.

All items are $3 shipping for the first item and free for additional items. There is a fair return policy: anything can be returned in exchange, except for earrings (hygiene!) and you foot the shipping.

Pretty Little Charms would like you to note that these items are NOT waterproof. They are made from books! Therefore, care should be taken when you’re deciding where and how to wear them.

“Wearable literature.”

If jewelry isn’t your thing, then head over to Storiarts, where you can acquire pages of classic literature printed onto a scarf, or writing gloves. How fancy would you feel if you owned something called “writing gloves”? Tori Tissell produces these wonders by hand, with the text chosen from such pieces as “Pride & Prejudice” and “Sherlock Holmes”. You may also custom order if you have your own choice of words (book paragraph, music, poetry, etc) prepared. Storiarts’ scarves look gorgeous and, as they say, will make you feel both “warm and intelligent”. Just be sure that your chosen text is not copyrighted and can be reprinted and sold without bringing terrible consequences down upon Tissell’s head. That’s the polite thing to do.

Last week The World’s End hit theatres. I had high expectations for this movie, and though said expectations weren’t fully met, I wouldn’t say I disliked the film. I would simply say it’s an above average feature at best. Part of the problem I found in the movie is that besides the disco, all of the bars feel exactly the same. I fully understand that it was probably a conscious decision by the filmmaker to do this in order to convey the blandness of the blank’s inhabited world, but conveying blandness is just that, bland. I would have really liked to have seen at least one bar that made me perk up and say “I wish that place existed, because if it did I would so be there every night”, at which point someone in the theatre would probably tell me to shush or give me a stern look. This discovery got me thinking about exactly which pop-culture bars I wish really existed, so I decided to do what all writers do when they ask themselves a question: write a list about it.

Number 10 : The Badass Crater Bar (aka Moxxi’s bar in Borderlands 2)

This is the place you go to wet your whistle between vault hunts on Pandora. It has not one, but two slot machines. That alone should satisfy your desire to know why I put this on the list, right? Okay, maybe not so let me get more specific. Going to this bar is all about hanging out with blunt sadistic Moxxi. If this place really existed I would sure be more then happy to keep sliding dollars across the bar for hours just to hear what would come out of that Moxxis mouth.

Number 9 : Barrelhaven Tavern (Bone)

Barrelhaven is the small town in the valley that the Bone cousins find themselves in during the events of the comic book, Bone. My primary reason for wanting to attend this bar is how ridiculous this whole world is what with dragons, rat creatures and cow races. Plus, I think it would be fun to have a cup of ale and hear Phoncible P. Bone tell tales of dragons, or listen to Smiley Bone play a song on his one stringed lute (I’m pretty sure he could play at least two solid notes on that bad boy).

Number 8 : Korova Milk Bar (A Clockwork Orange)

If moving into a dystopian future means we get milk bars well then lets toast to the downfall of civilization. Sure, the milk is laced with drugs, but I feel as though I could easily get straight milk, hold the drugs (which is on most days how I prefer my milk). Other then the fact that they serve milk, they also have some of the most strangest tables and décor I have ever seen. I don’t think you really need the drugs in a place like this, because it is kind of already an acid trip fleshed out into real life.

Number 7 : The Leaky Cauldron (Harry Potter)

I could have probably put any Harry Potter bar here, but I decided on The Leaky Cauldron over the Three Broomsticks and Hog’s Head Inn. The problem with the other two is that I feel as though you’d have to deal with annoying wizard students most the year, and listening to them talk about how much they love magic can get pretty annoying over time. So I side with The Leaky Cauldron which since it is an Inn by a major location in this universe you have a more eclectic mix of witches and wizards you can meet there. Fair warning about The Leaky Cauldron though: eat the pea soup before it eats you (you had to have seen that coming).

Number 6 : The Candy Barrel (The Misadventures of Flapjack)

The Misadventures of Flapjack was a cartoon that lasted on Cartoon Network for three seasons between 2008 and 2010. I decided to include the Candy Barrel on this list strictly on account of the absurdity of its premise. The Candy Barrel is exactly what you would think it is, which is a candy bar. You enter through swinging salon doors, take a stool at the bar and order yourself a candy. A candy bar in itself is kind bizarre but The Misadventures of Flapjack took it a step further by introducing the fact that the main characters could buy one piece of candy for the price of one candy wrapper. So basically once you find one candy wrapper you will always get free candy since all candy is wrapped in more wrappers. I am a okay with that.

Number 5 : Chalmun’s Cantina (aka Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars)

This isn’t the place you want to go if you’re attempting to make new friends. So why go to Chalmun’s Cantina? Well apparently there is never a dull moment there. Think about it: in the ten minutes (tops) that we are shown the cantina, someone loses an arm, and a bounty hunter gets killed, and none of the patrons bat one eyelash. That leaves me to believe this place is insane with action all the time if the regulars are so unexplainably immune to such antics. Other then that, I also would really like to see Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes play and since they had to cancel their tour dates of the Deathstar and Alderaan due to destruction this is really the only place to see them.

Number 4 : Puzzles (How I Met Your Mother)

Most People would agree that Maclaren’s should be on this list, but for me its Puzzles all the way. You get the same exact environment as Maclaren’s except you swap out Carl as the bartender for Ted and Barney slinging drinks behind the bar. It’s a win win situation. Plus at Puzzles you are no longer constrained by the common annoying last call rule. At Puzzles, there is no last call.

Number 3 : Winchester (Shaun of The Dead)

If the zombie apocalypse breaks out, this is where I am heading. Sadly, if said events d0 happen I probably wont make due to the fact that it is on a completely different continent then me. So why Winchester? Well I always did enjoy the aesthetics of an English pub. The Winchester just seems like a good place to fort up in if the events of zombies ever did happen. It has beer and pig snacks to fill your belly after all the zombie battling. It has entertainment to pass the time in form of a pool table and a dart board. Its armed with a working decorative hanging shotgun which would come in handy. Most importantly what makes the Winchester great is that it has Queen on the Jukebox.

Number 2 : Flaming Moe’s (The Simpsons)

It’s the home of the drink the Flaming Moe/Flaming Homer. Flaming Moe’s was the name change given to Moe’s Tavern when, with the invention of the Flaming Moe, the bar became more of a Springfield nightlife hotspot. When business started to boom due to the demand of the new drink Moe’s got a little bit fancier what with new neon signs and all. Plus, going to Flaming Moe’s is a lot like going to Moe’s Tavern(which was originally on my list) except its more socially acceptable and Aerosmith plays there.

Number 1 : Snakehole Lounge (Parks and Recreation)

The Snakehole Lounge is as good as it gets in Pawnee. That is, until Tom Haverford finally gets around to opening his own club one day, in which he will either call Club-A-Dub-Dub or the Clubmarine. The Snakehole Lounge is reffered to as “Pawnees sickest nightclub”, which I imagine isn’t much in the way of a great feat to accomplish. Tom Haverford is the promotions director at the bar. Jean-Ralphio Saperstein is also an investor of the establishment. I like to believe that you could go to this bar on any given night of the week (except Sundays and Mondays due to the place being rented out for kids birthday parties and substance abuse meetings on those days) and run into eith Tom Haverford or Jean-Ralphio, which lets admit it is ninety seven percent of the appeal to this place. The other three percent is the ridiculous promotional parties they throw. They threw promotional parties for Tom inventing a new liquor called Snake Juice, and Dennis Feinstein launch party for his new fragrance. It’s very obvious that the Snakehole Lounge is on the up and up, and it’s only matter of time before it’s not just the cultural and social center of Pawnee but of the world in general. Plus, I heard drinking Snake Juice really gets the job done when it comes to getting completely inebriated which is generally the point of going to a bar in the first place.

Honorable Mentions:

Iceberg Lounge (Batman) – It’s all about the décor in this posh nightclub.

Joe’s Bar (Battlestar Galactica) – A great place to grab a drink, lite up a cigar and play some Triad.

Paddys Pub (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia)  – The place is a total dive but I wouldn’t mind sitting there listening to the gang come up with harebrained schemes.

The Bar in Tapper – Why? because I really want my server to sling my beer down to me, and also because some of the patrons of the establishment are aliens.

Let’s be honest. We knew it was going to do good. But this good? As of today Marvels ‘The Avengers’ has become the third highest gross film domestically (knocking down ‘The Dark Knight’) and worldwide with a massive $1.331 billion taking the third place spot from ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows Part 2’.

The film has been smashing records ever since its massive release and doesn’t look like its done yet. Many people are wondering if it has what it takes to knock ‘Titanic’ off that second place spot. With a theatrical run that doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon and one more country to still be released in (‘The Avengers’ opens in Japan in August) it very well could. I know I plan on assembling again at least once.
