Did You Know Gaming? is one of my favorite lunch break time-killers at work. Their 5-10 minute videos have unveiled the making and secrets of nearly a hundred prolific games, franchises, and consoles and it’s my favorite way to occupy my attention while I eat a pastrami. They’ve recently introduced a new series, “Unseen64” which delves into the doomed productions of cancelled video games. Their newest video reveals an amazing what-could-have been: Marvel’s The Avengers, which would have been a first-person action game with a story written by veteran comic scribe Brian Michael Bendis.

I’m really stunned by how well the FP aspects would have worked without the “S” part. None of the Avengers (except maybe Iron Man) would have shooting mechanics, but based on the footage from early builds it actually looks like it would have been a ton of fun. Each of the playable Avengers — Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man primarily, with Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel being unlockable — essentially fulfill a class not unlike *Team Fortress 2*, with everyone relying on each other’s strengths to make up for their own shortcomings. That’s teamwork! Which should be at the heart of most comic book games (Batman excluded).

Also notable is how the game isn’t based on the film, but The Avengers property with designs inspired by Joss Whedon’s movie and an original story riffing on Bendis’ Secret Invasion storyline. The tie-in video game quietly died a few years ago and none of us really noticed.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me about cancelled video games is how invincible they should have been. You’d think that a video game tied to one of the most lucrative films in history would have been cancellation-proof, but THQ’s financial woes were ultimately what killed the project. A more recent example is P.T., aka Silent Hills which its ingredients should have allowed it to survive: genre auteur Guillermo del Toro, Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima, and Norman Reedus, the breakout star of the world’s most popular cable series The Walking Dead. How on Earth do these things just fall through the cracks?

Briefly: I just arrived home from my Avengers: Age of Ultron screening, and what better way to wrap up that busy and action-packed flick than to listen to one of it’s heroes sing about all of the powers he has.

You don’t get to see all of Hawkeyes abilities onscreen (and it’s clear from the tune that he has a lot of them), but he does get the best line in the film (in my opinion).

This one’s set to the tune of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, and it’s freaking wonderful.

Have you already caught Age of Ultron? What did you think?

With Avengers: Age of Ultron set to premiere in the United States in just over a week, the press tour has gone into overdrive, and the headlining stories have been… unfortunate. They’re anything but the movie, for one thing.

Yesterday, Robert Downey Jr. suffered an extremely uncomfortable interview that prompted him to awkwardly walk out with tears in his eyes. It was a heartbreaking, sobering moment for a man we’ve seen as a titan in armor. Today, stars Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner are facing backlash for some questionable comments.

By questionable, I mean totally random and kind of bad.

“She’s a slut,” Jeremy Renner refers to fictional character Black Widow, the lone woman of the blockbuster super team.

“She has a prosthetic leg anyway,” says Chris Evans. (We’ll get to this one in a little bit.)

Let’s get this on the table first: They were jokes. Coming off an exhaustive shoot for a multi-million dollar movie, going on endless press tours answering the same, numbing, corporate-approved questions over and over again while struggling just to stay awake thanks to jet lag and constant media attention, Renner and Evans probably were just looking to have some fun and kick back.

However, that doesn’t excuse it from being bad jokes.

First, they’re a bit out of context. Defenders of these comments will argue that we’re taking their remarks out of context, but I question whether they actually have the ability to follow a conversation. The subject that prompted the remarks was about shipping Black Widow with some of the other Avengers (which I’d normally also stamp as sexist, but it’s such a popular topic amongst fans, particularly the female fans, there isn’t much negative baggage associated with it), and it would have just been harmless, if pointless babble.

Then Jeremy Renner called Black Widow a slut.

I mean, it’s jarring. Yeah, it’s about a fictional character, and that’s just what I’d even point out: she’s a fictional character. What the fuck is the point even mentioning her sex life? This isn’t Nymphomaniac either where sex is a major theme. This is Avengers where the goal is to sell t-shirts and toys.

It’s unfortunate this had to happen the same week Marvel — often the exemplars of progressive, inclusive storytelling and representation — are still reflecting some dumb boy’s club attitudes. In one major example, they’ve come under fire for not selling Black Widow merchandise at the same volume of her male counterparts. Being sold and marketed to isn’t exactly the pinnacle of diversity in my eyes, but it’s certainly reflective of larger attitudes at work.

More toys means more kids can grow up enjoying this stuff. It ensures the things you loved will live on for generations long after you’re rotting in the ground. Besides, pretend you’re a kid again and think about it: You don’t want others to play toys with? I was pretty lonely playing Power Rangers toys by myself as a kid, I would have been happy if anyone else, whoever they were, wanted to join me.

Black Widow, however problematic her character may be (not sure if a cold-hearted killer is a great role model for anybody) has become something of a spirit animal for much of the female Marvel fans, who are literally half the movie-going audience. The slut-shaming comments by two of the film’s stars against the one female character has caused quite the dissonance and vitriol from fans — and defenders of comedy or some kind of bullshit alike.

(I only pulled these four tweets just to illustrate, you can find far more with a simple search on Twitter or any comment on every article about this story on every other online outlet. Go nuts.)

I can’t quite subscribe to the “she’s a fictional character” argument. Not only are we in this kinda fucked up era where weirdos in Japan try to marry anime characters and you can’t surf Tumblr without readiNG CAPS-LOCK LADEN POSTS ABOUT THE FEELS AND REALNESS OF fiction, but we also project pieces of ourselves onto the inanimate figures who live only on paper and binary codes. How we treat and view those characters can be telling, because in some weird way it’s kind of how we treat ourselves. Ever took up martial arts because of your favorite Power Ranger? There’s a whole sect of ’90s kids who did.

If I really wanted to push buttons I’d say there’s a whole population of people who worship fictional characters and that I attended school for eighteen years devoted to said fictional characters, but I’m not in that kind of mood right now.

All of this is just unfortunate. Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner are humans and they deserve to fuck up, whether they think they were or not.

But they’ve also demonstrated themselves to be exemplary role models, and their fame in portraying superheroes have elevated them into a unique position where once only sports athletes occupied. They literally act out acts of heroism, and to an 8-year-old kid it doesn’t matter how much CGI and rendering it took because Captain America just saved people from falling wreckage! We can debate the merits and responsibilities of celebrities as a whole all day, but that won’t change the fact that people like Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner do have young eyes watching their every move and will imitate them in every way they can.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEgzt9FP9gI

I’m happy “slut-shaming” and other types of body-shaming actually have names and that more and more people are speaking out against them. It’s insidious discrimination, to categorize people as lesser than you without actually assigning them a specific water fountain they can drink from. It’s blatant sexism, and I can’t defend that kind of casual hate speech — and make no mistake, casual, everyday, “we’re just joking” speech does as much damage as any major protest or discriminatory law can. I can speak from experience.

These are jokes, but they’re bad jokes and they shouldn’t just be “let go.” Let’s not crucify Renner and Evans and acknowledge that we’re all hella stoked for Avengers: Age of Ultron next week. But after this and Trevor Noah,* can we finally talk about what actually constitutes as comedy and what doesn’t? Can we finally accept that “harmless” sexism is anything but harmless?

Can we just not accept people being a bunch of fucking douchebags for once?

As far as the “she’s got a prosthetic leg” comment goes, allow me to dip a toe into the misogyny pool and introduce you to someone who I’d totally take in a manly fashion.

If there’s one thing sexier than a nice pair of legs, it’s strength.

*Not sure where this belongs, but it’s necessary that we not forget that unlike Trevor Noah neither Evans or Renner have earned a paycheck doing stand-up. Arguments about defending comedy go out the window in this situation.

Briefly: Avengers: Age of Ultron is fast approaching its May 1st release date, and Marvel has just debuted two fantastic new clips from the beyond-anticipated film.

In the movie, “When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.”

The first clip shows just how Black Widow learns to calm down Hulk, while the second features a heated argument between the main cast. They’re not very spoiler-y, but it’s definitely starting to feel like we’ve seen the whole film at this point.

Take a look at the clips below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: Following the final trailer from a few days back, Marvel has just debuted a stellar new featurette for next month’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The video features interviews with much of the film’s cast, talking about the current dynamic of the group and who may step up as leader when crisis calls. It also happens to feature a ton of new footage, so if you feel as though you’ve already seen too much of the film, you’ll probably want to avoid it.

For everyone else, you can take a look at the new featurette below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st!

https://youtu.be/xy9bGLj5faI

Briefly: We’re finally just a few weeks away from the release of what has to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and what has to end up as one of the most successful films of the year, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After releasing almost as many trailers as there are Avengers, the final trailer for the film finally hit the web today. It features a bunch of new footage, a bit more creepy Ultron, and dives a little deeper into Black Widow.

You can take a look at the final trailer below, and as always, be sure to let us know just how excited you are to line up on May 1st!

Avengers: Age of Ultron just can’t arrive fast enough.

This past week, Robert Downey Jr. teased a “big announcement” coming March 5. Depending on your hype levels for the movie, it’s either super disappointing or super… something else to look forward to: a new trailer.

A new Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer will air this Thursday, March 5, during the premiere of American Crime at 10 PM EST.

I know, I know. A “big announcement” is just another new trailer. Kind of a bummer. But in addition to this yay?-level news, a new character poster has been released that will probably be your new iPhone wallpaper if you’re that kind of person: Jeremy Renner, looking mighty sad as Hawkeye, posted on his WhoSay account. Real question: who actually uses WhoSay? Besides Jeremy Renner.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters May 1, but I don’t think you need me to tell you that.

Briefly: We all received a fantastic treat late last week when the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron leaked online, DAYS before it’s scheduled launch on last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel blamed it on Hydra, which was a hilarious and lighthearted way of looking at the leak. Not wanting to leave any of us S.H.I.E.L.D. fans hanging, the studio attached a special look at the film on last night’s episode. If you we’re lucky enough to be in Hall H at SDCC this past Summer, than it’s nothing new for you, but it’s exciting to see the scene online and official.

It’s also fantastic to see the look on Thor’s face when Cap almost lifts the hammer, and now we can see it over and over and over again. The rest of the video is pretty much the trailer we’ve already seen, but I’m not going to say no to watching that one again. Take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’re excited!

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st, 2015.

LITERALLY NONE OF THESE WORDS MATTER. THESE ARE JUST WORDS. WHAT YOU WANT IS BELOW. But play along, please?

Earlier tonight the the much-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer was leaked online. It was supposed to air during next week’s Mavel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But because this is 2014, of course it didn’t! After a pretty amusing, self-deprecating tweet, Marvel has decided “eff it, let’s just do it.” The trailer is now on their official YouTube page, in crystal clear high-definition.

The trailer has all the neat stuff I kept hearing about from San Diego Comic-Con this summer. The Hulkbuster, an Avengers party, Ultron himself. It’s all really neat.

My favorite part, though, is what James Spader’s Ultron (and it’s so unmistakably him) says in the trailer: “You want to protect the world. But you don’t want it to change.” There is an ongoing, neverending debate that I love getting into about the true nature of superheroes. As protectors of the status-quo, what is their role when the world needs changing? Not that I expect Age of Ultron to be political in any shape or form, but the movie (I hope) will continue to change the superhero genre and begin to ask questions we, the dedicated superhero nerds who hold up this art to a higher level than most, might be uncomfortable to answer.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in 2015 and it will make so much money.

Better late than never right?

EW today released some new info regarding the highly anticipated Phase One box set. The fantastic looking bundle was originally set to release back in September, but was delayed due to a lawsuit over the case design.

We now have a new release date for the 10-disc set (featuring a slightly different looking briefcase), and while it’s still months away, I can’t help but get excited. New pre-orders are set to start later today, while the set will be available on April 2nd (just 133 more days).

The set will also include additional content that would not have been there had it hit shelves on time including never before seen clips, and a Phase Two preview featuring “footage, concept art, and a few new surprises.”

I’m in. How about you?

It’s now official, Avengers 2 WILL assemble once again on May 1st, 2015. This is the date fellow writer Shawn speculated last week! Can he see the future?!

Joss Whedon will write and direct the sequel to the massive success that is The Avengers.

The sequel will be the culmination of Marvel’s ‘Phase Two’ films that begins with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013. That will be followed by Thor: The Dark World (November 8th, 3013), Captain America: The Winter Solider (April 4th, 2014), Guardians of The Galaxy (August 1st, 2014). Ant-Man, which still have no official start date nor a release date is also speculated to be released in 2014.

It’s a great time to be a Marvel fan! Stay tuned to Geekscape as we’ll bring you the latest updates on all the ‘Phase Two’ slate of movies as well as all your geek-related news. Excelsior!

Have you been wondering just what comes in the ten-disc Marvel Cinematic Universe – Phase One: Avengers Assembled Box Set? Well we now have a trailer for you detailing just what you will be getting. Minus the access denied folder with contents that not even I know. Trust me…I am dying to know what’s in it. Our own Scott Alminiana has pre-ordered this set after we saw it on the floor of this years San Diego Comic-Con. Will you assemble and purchase this ultimate collection?

After ‘The Avengers’ hit theaters it was revealed that Marvel had a shot a short film in secret. The short film that will be featured on the Blu-Ray as well as receiving a screening during Comic-Con next week is titled ‘Item 47’. Now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have details on the cast and just what the 12 minute ‘Item 47’ is about and how it is expanding the Marvel universe.

The film is the latest in the company’s series of shorts dubbed “One-Shots,” a comic book term for stories that wrap up in one issue. Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, pictured) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star as a down-on-their-luck couple who find one of the discarded alien guns from the finale to The Avengers — and proceed to make some incredibly bad decisions.

Item 47 refers to the gun itself, which S.H.I.E.L.D. would like very much to retrieve from the hapless young troublemakers. “The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy,” explains Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, who directed the film himself. “So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.”

Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Maximiliano Hernández, returning from Thor and The Avengers, and Lost’s Man in Black Titus Welliver, making his Marvel debut) are given the job of cleaning up the mess and stopping this modern Bonnie and Clyde (not coincidentally named Benny and Claire.)

The goal was to show some non-superpowered people reacting to the aftermath of The Avengers. “Anything that expands the world and shows you the more human elements of it, that just makes the world more colorful and fun for the average viewer,” says Eric Pearson, who wrote the screenplay for Item 47, as well as the previous two One-Shots: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer and The Consultant.

So by now you all know that The Avengers is coming out on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on September 25th. If you didn’t know that, where have you been? Anyway, we now have the details of what will be on the home release. To go along with the release Marvel is releasing a  new app called “The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen App.”

“By downloading this onto a secondary device, consumers will be able to gain unprecedented access to exclusive content building up to the home entertainment release on September 25. Pieces will be unleashed bi-weekly in July and August and weekly in September leading up to a full immersive experience accompanying the film on Blu-ray. Content includes special access to the S.H.I.E.L.D. database, becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, invitations to “special missions” either remotely or in the field, links to character profiles, stories and scenes, interactive Marvel digital reader comic books and more. App owners will receive push notifications whenever new content is uploaded and available for their viewing.”

In October we will return to a world ravaged by a plague that had turned most of Earth’s heroes into raving cannibalistic monsters. Jonathan Maberry is back to continue on from events that unfolded in ‘Marvel Universe vs Punisher’ and ‘Marvel Universe vs Wolverine’ in a four issue mini-series ‘Marvel Universe vs The Avengers

“The story is intensely personal, as all stories of great cultural trauma,” Maberry says. “These are horror stories, and ‘Marvel Universe vs The Avengers’ takes the horror down to a very personal level. We are no longer witnessing the world’s hurt or the cultural hurt, we’re inside the head – and heart — of a man who is experiencing the most personal kind of hurt.” The man he is referring to here is Clint Barton aka Hawkeye.

“The story is told from Hawkeye’s perspective, but most of the big guns are there: Thor, Hulk — red and green versions — Iron Man, Giant Man, Luke Cage, Black Widow, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, and others,” reveals the writer. “We also check in on the kids at Avengers Academy. The events in these four issues cut a bloody swath across the entire Avengers landscape.”

“The world is becoming a horror show and no one has the power to stop it,” Maberry explains. “Then we look down at the street-level, at a man like Hawkeye who has no super powers and who isn’t really the go-to guy for a world-threatening crisis and for reasons we’ll explore in the story, he doesn’t succumb to the plague as quickly. More and more of the responsibility for this fight falls to him, and he’s extremely mortal.”

“View that same thing from another perspective and you see someone who has never been as powerful as his teammates, and yet he’s always held the line, always done his part. So, maybe he’s the kind of hero we need in a world where super powers are no longer the answer.”

“The world itself is broken, and the storytelling reflects that,” Maberry offers. “There is no longer an orderly pace to history, and if humanity survives, the history that’s taught will come from fragments of memory and experiences.

“I wanted to get inside the phenomenon of becoming ‘powerless.’ Many of the heroes lose their heroic status by becoming monsters; we have characters struggling to continue to be heroes while knowing that they are transforming into the enemy. The government and even groups like S.H.I.E.L.D. can’t stop this. The greatest brains on the planet—Reed Richards, Hank Pym, T’Challa—can’t solve this problem. We see how different characters cope with their friends/team-mates and loved ones becoming monsters.”

But in the end it’s all coming down to one man. The man with the arrows.

“That is a special kind of horror, and it’s a special kind of heroic tale,” Maberry promises. “I think people are going to bond pretty heavily with Hawkeye in this tale.”

‘The Avengers’ is set to hit shelves on September 25th. We have a trailer for you to get you excited the Blu-ray release that even seems to sneak in some of the new footage that will be seen on it. I won’t lie…kind of made me want to go see it again. Are you ready to assemble again?

Marvel has posted three teaser images for some of Sideshow Collectibles items for San Diego Comic-Con 2012. Including a Doctor Doom Legendary 1:2 Scale Figure, a 1:4 scale Hawkeye Premium Format Figure, and a 33″ tall Galactus Maquette. You read that right…33″ tall. Collectors get your wallets ready!

Rumor warning! This is not confirmed.

SuperHeroAuthority is reporting that we may just see the 35 minute longer ‘Directors Cut’ being released into theaters this summer in an attempt to knock ‘Titanic’ and ‘Avatar’ off the top of the hill.

“The Avengers is sitting comfortably at No. 3 overall on both the domestic and International ticket sale charts but it seems both Marvel and Disney desire the No. 1 overall spot and a current rumor says they could be contemplating releasing The Avengers: Director’s Cut in theaters at the end of this summer.

Please remember this is from a ComicBook.com post and another Hollywood source who has heard this rumor and told SuperHero Authority this is a possibility but nothing has been confirmed to actually happen. Marvel and Disney have not said anything regarding this new rumor as well.

So, while this is a major rumor…I would definitely not rule it out as a possibility. Especially because of the fact that most of us have seen this movie at least 2-3 times already. Would we most likely assemble again with that additional 35 minutes of footage? Definitely.

And what comic fan wouldn’t love to see ‘The Avengers’ hit number one?

Let’s be honest. We knew it was going to do good. But this good? As of today Marvels ‘The Avengers’ has become the third highest gross film domestically (knocking down ‘The Dark Knight’) and worldwide with a massive $1.331 billion taking the third place spot from ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows Part 2’.

The film has been smashing records ever since its massive release and doesn’t look like its done yet. Many people are wondering if it has what it takes to knock ‘Titanic’ off that second place spot. With a theatrical run that doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon and one more country to still be released in (‘The Avengers’ opens in Japan in August) it very well could. I know I plan on assembling again at least once.

A new full-length trailer for ‘The Bourne Legacy’ has hit the web. If that teaser didn’t get you excited enough…this for sure will.

“The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films”

The Bourne Legacy’ hits theatres August 3rd, 2012.

Check out this preview for ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #11 on shelves tomorrow.

New creative team! Rising talent Sam Humphries and superstar artist Luke Ross join writer Jonathan Hickman! It’s the beginning of a new era for the United States! How do Nick Fury and the Ultimates move forward in the aftermath of the People vs. the Children?

Source: Marvel

One thing that can be said about Marvels Ultimate line is that well… anything goes. And if you’ve been reading ULTIMATES… you’ll know what I’m talking about. Starting July in ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #13 is Divided We Fall… a story stretching across all three Ultimate books. This story began in ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #10 which was the first issue that saw co-writer Sam Humphries and artist Luke Ross joining Jonathan Hickman. This issue had former Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards eradicating Washington D.C. decimating the U.S. government to the point where the off-site Secretary of Energy became next in line for the presidency.

“That’s something you can’t get away with in the mainline Marvel books, or in the movies, the cartoon shows, the video games—any place where they tell stories about Marvel characters,” says Humphries of the incnident. “I’ve always looked at the Ultimate Universe as a place that is fundamentally different. Characters are bigger, stakes are higher, and fate is more extreme. Day to day life has sharper edges.”

“It’s like the Earth’s axis is tipped one inch further to the left—you’d never be able to measure it, but everything about living on the planet would be irreversibly affected.”

ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #11 hits shelves next Wednesday May 30th and we will see S.H.I.E.L.D under new leadership with their top operatives on the run as fugitives.

“The previous president removed Nick Fury and put a new guy in his place,” Humphries recounts. “Then an attack on Washington vaporized most of the United States government. The world security agency doesn’t know which way is up anymore. They’ve got an identity crisis, and to paraphrase Marshal McLuhan, the less identity we have, the more violence we see.

“[But] Nick Fury is always in control. Even when you rip S.H.I.E.L.D. away from him and put him on the run, he’s still the man with the plan.”

And while this is all going on the other Ultimates will have their own issues to face. The worst off of them all being Tony Stark. Tony has discovered his dormant brain tumor has returned and with comes growing hallucinations.

ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #12 will be hitting shelves June 27th and with it we will see Hickman take his final bow. Humphries will take over the title full time… but will definitely not be ignoring the path Hickman has set the book on.

“Jonathan’s been crushing it on ULTIMATES with some huge developments,” he says. “I’d be a fool not to work from what he’s set up—it’s a world rife with potential and big moments. At the same time, Hickman has maintained from our very first conversation that it’s imperative for me to write what I’m interested in writing instead of trying to ape or continuing someone else’s work. What you’re reading now is a true blend of two perspectives on the Ultimates.”

And finally as stated above… starting in July… Divided We Fall.

“The thing about Divided We Fall is that the books are interconnected, but not interwoven,” Humphries explains. “All the books are experiencing the same chaos, but each book gives you a different point of view. What Miles Morales sees isn’t what Thor sees isn’t what Rogue sees. So each book tells the same larger story, but they can be read independently of each other.”

I can say that i’ve definitely been reading all of the Ultimate books and right now they’re great and this is definitely looking like something that I will be looking forward to.

ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #10 is on stands now. Get it. Read it.

SPOILERS! Heidi and Stephen set out this week with a great topic in hand, Outer Space, and a “Favorite Moment In…” to feature The Avengers. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, neither host could come up with just one moment in The Avengers that they loved the most. So they babbled on for most of the episode about how great the film was and what it means as a comic book film. Some of the concerns and criticisms brought up by Jonathan in the Geekscape Avengers episode are also addressed because Stephen only likes arguing with Jonathan when Jonathan can’t answer back.

They did however get around to talking a bit about outer space. Topics covered were “The Moon Treaty,” “The Outer Space Treaty,” and the recently brought to the media’s attention “Build the Enterprise” project.

Set within the same universe as Vivid’s very successful Spider-Man XXX and their upcoming releases, She Hulk XXX, Thor XXX & Iron Man XXX, director Axel Braun’s Avengers XXX combines the separate films into the beginning of a larger tale.

As news reports begin to flood in about the destruction being caused by an unknown entity, Agent Nick Fury (Lexington Steele) decides it’s time to go public with S.H.I.E.L.D and gathers together his superhero taskforce in order to combat this new menance.

The problem is, the “unknown” entity is actually the ragin’ and rampagin’ Incredible Hulk (Jordan Lane).

After Iron Man (Dale Dabone) attempts to subdue him on his own and fails, Fury realizes he needs to call on bigger guns… like the son of Odin, Thor (Brenden Miller) and a mystery hero who will be revealed at the end of the film.

Also working on Fury’s taskforce are the Scarlet Witch (Dani Cole), Ms. Marvel (Lexi Swallow), Spider-Woman (Jenna Presley), She Hulk (Chyna), Black Widow (Brooklyn Lee), and Hawkeye (Eric Masterson).

Among these heroes, we’ll see the naughty team-ups between Ms. Marvel and the Scarlet Witch, Black Widow and Hawkeye, She Hulk and Thor, and other surprise moments. This’ll certain be be better than most erotic fan “art”.

I visited the set on a day scheduled for two sex scenes: the Black Widow/Hawkeye pairing and the She Hulk/Thor pairing. Watching the painstaking work of the make-up artists as they transformed the wonderfully sweet Chyna into sassy She Hulk and being able to see the amount of work put into the some of the sets was incredible.

So please enjoy our Geekscape exclusive shots from the set of Vivid’s latest superhero parody, Avengers XXX!

Starting here...
...to get to here.
Stop, it's hammer time? (Brenden Miller)
Take one Hawkeye (Eric Masterson)...
Add in a bit of Black Widow (Brooklyn Lee)
A dash of sound guy (a dashing sound guy?)
A teaspoon full of camera dude. (Ew, no.)
And that's how porn is made.

Avengers XXX is set to release on May 4th, 2012.

With an announced sequel to X Men: First Class, and the rumors of a rebooted 1960’s Fantastic Four, retro Marvel is officially IN. This has led Geekscape to wonder: what if different Marvel franchises had actually been released in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s?

Or, maybe you think it’s stupid to cast a Marvel movie in a different decade, justify the lineup, and pitch a plot. Well, that’s why we at Geekscape consider ourselves to be heroes, in a way. We waste our time doing the stupid things the world is afraid to do. Last time, we shook the 90’s to their very core with a 1994 X Men film. Time to step back a decade!

THE 80’S: AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

The Pitch: After a battle to take down Ultron results in an absurd amount of collateral damage, the Avengers reluctantly agree to accept government oversight in the form of Henry Gyrich. The Vision attempts to bring stability to the world by taking control of its computer systems, but is being manipulated by Ultron! It’s the Avengers vs. a Vision-Ultron-Skynet! Will the Avengers prevail? Meanwhile, a young Wanda Maximoff is taken in by the team and falls for the android! Can Scarlet Witch use the human power of love to bring Vision to his senses? And when she does, can the song ‘Power of Love’ play? When I think Avengers, I think Huey Lewis. And his news.

CAPTAIN AMERICA

In the 80’s, there was only one man that could sling the shield. The only man that John Connor trusted enough to go back in time and bang his mom: Michael Biehn. He is the unsung action hero badass of the 80’s and also The Rock from the 90’s. I mean the movie The Rock. He wasn’t The Rock, though I can still smell what he was cooking. Come on. Picture him doing that monologue to Ed Harris from The Rock in Cap’s costume and you will get a nerd boner.

Don’t fight it. It’s natural.

IRON MAN

Avengers Assemble? AS YOU WISH. Cary Elwes would have been an awesome Tony Stark back in the day. The wit, the arrogance, and the massive amount of girls wanting to bang him. Plus, most of the Dread Pirate Robert’s lines could probably double as Stark lines, so we save on screenwriters. That way in the spin off we get to see Iron Man challenge the Mandarin to a fight to the pain.

GYRICH

I’m doing my best to justify a Henry Gyrich in every decade I cast a movie in. Charlie Chaplin will end up playing him by the end of this. But before the Dictator gets his shot, the role belongs to John Ritter. Ritter’s been killing it on Three’s Company and it’s time to show his range as a greasy, back stabbing government yes man! This could be his ‘Razor’s Edge!’

THE VISION

I wish there was a guy we could call that does robots good…

SCARLET WITCH

Mia Sara! Too young? No way. It takes a dumb teenage girl to fall deeply in love with a robot, and Mia Sara’s career has been built on poor romantic choices: first Tom Cruise in Legend, and then Ferris Bueller, a husband who no doubt will eventually look into a camera and say ‘who could be faithful on a day like this?’ Mia has a perfect wide eyed spaciness for a young woman struggling with chaos magic. Is it chaos magic? I’m really not sure at this point.  THANKS BENDIS.

Besides, no one complained when two teenage boys fell in love took a shower with Lisa in Weird Science. There’s no room for your double standards in THE AVENGERS.

One more for the road.

ULTRON

Next.

BEAST

Photobucket

Like, Jeff Bridges, man! Change him out of the Tron suit and put some blue fur on the guy. The Beast abides, man. The Beast abides.

HAWKEYE

PhotobucketSomething something winning something something dismissive wank. Charlie is a bad ass, and if you remember Hot Shots Part Deux (AND YOU SHOULD) you will remember that he is also dry and hilarious. He’ll also be perfect as part of our important subplot I just figured out: That Hawkeye hates young cocky scientist Hank Pym for having Janet, and is going to murder him when the hitting starts. And you know the hitting will start.

YELLOWJACKET

PhotobucketAnd when I think of hitting women, I think of Rob Lowe. A dashing scientist, inventor of size changing stuff, and a Duke Silver level saxophone player, Lowe has all the tools needed to play a sleazy piece of shit that needs some redemption. Literally, my favorite person for this role.

I CAN’T DEAL WITH INVENTING ULTRON! JUST LET ME ROCK THE PAIN AWAY!

THE WASP

PhotobucketJanet needs to be someone you really, really want to bang and really, really hate Hank Pym for being able to bang. I’m going with Demi Moore to keep the Brat Pack repping in this summer blockbuster. And it’s not so much that Demi would be an awesome person to hit, but she could sell a backhand super good. Just thinking about it makes me want to kill Rob Lowe.

WONDER MAN

PhotobucketMy understanding of Wonder Man isn’t the best, but based on the pre Secret Invasion Mighty Avengers, he’s a smug hacky actor turned super hero and I think he should be Kurt Russell. Please refer yourself to Jack Burton. Clean yourself up, and then see him in Sky High. And then clean yourself up. What? That Scott Pilgrim chick was in it.

DIRECTOR

Every movie needs a director (Except for the three Transformers films and anything I shoot of myself crying). The insane amount of androids and evil AI points to Ridley Scott for this thing. He’s the obvious choice for this epic, and while my heart says John Carpenter, my mind is keeping it Ridley.

Next time: It’s Warren Ellis’ Thunderbolts… 70’s grindhouse style!

The new Avengers trailer has premiered over at Apple and it helps a lot. You see more of the Avengers being put together and you get a few more shots of the alien ships (although still no obvious signs as to who the bad guys Loki has hired are).

What do you guys think? Any guesses? I do know now that the bad guys do have a giant Transformers 3 worm!

Check out the new trailer here on Apple!
