Deadline is reporting that Marvel and ABC Studios are in talks to create a live-action drama series set within the Marvel cinematic universe.

“… the connection to the Avengers franchise would be light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature some of its themes and feel but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster.”

The studios are in the earliest stages of development for the show. Some possible ideas being tossed around include a high-concept cop show. This is only the most current show to be in development at ABC, a series featuring the Hulk with Guillermo del Toro attached is also in the works. There are endless possibilities that the latest live-action drama could go. Maybe we could see a show focused on SHIELD agents, perhaps featuring characters from the latest Marvel One-Shot: Item 47? Only time will tell Marvelites, but you can be sure that we’ll keep you posted! Excelsior!

A few of us Geekscapists had the chance to see an advance screening of Marvel’s latest one-shot ‘Item 47’. ‘Item 47’ will be released as a bonus feature on the home release for ‘The Avengers’.

We got a special introduction by a certain Robert Downey Jr. himself. Well, not himself but a video of him sitting on the toilet congratulating fans that had completed a scavenger hunt gaining them access to the screening while he dropped “a water moccasin”. The short revolves around Bennie and Claire (Jesse Bradford and Lizzy Caplan), a down on their luck couple who come across a Chitauri weapon left behind in the rubble of the aftermath of “the battle of New York”. It also features Agent Sitwell, previously seen in ‘Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant’, ‘Thor’ and ‘The Avengers’.

If you’re a fan of Marvel’s previous One-Shots you will definitely enjoy this one. The previous One-Shots averaged around five minutes while this one came in around twelve minutes. The one-shot was directed by Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito, who was in attendance with the cast as well as the writer behind it. Kevin Feige was also in attendance a few feet from us but not answering any questions. You could definitely tell that everyone had a great time making it and the fans really enjoyed it. I can definitely say us over here at Geekscape in attendance really enjoyed it and can’t wait for you all to see it.

This screening just shows how much Marvel cares about their fans and realizes that they are the ones that make these movies possible. I really hope they continue with these One-shots and even expand upon them making an even larger Marvel universe for us all to enjoy.

‘The Avengers’ will be available to assemble in  your home on September 25th.

After ‘The Avengers’ hit theaters it was revealed that Marvel had a shot a short film in secret. The short film that will be featured on the Blu-Ray as well as receiving a screening during Comic-Con next week is titled ‘Item 47’. Now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have details on the cast and just what the 12 minute ‘Item 47’ is about and how it is expanding the Marvel universe.

The film is the latest in the company’s series of shorts dubbed “One-Shots,” a comic book term for stories that wrap up in one issue. Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, pictured) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star as a down-on-their-luck couple who find one of the discarded alien guns from the finale to The Avengers — and proceed to make some incredibly bad decisions.

Item 47 refers to the gun itself, which S.H.I.E.L.D. would like very much to retrieve from the hapless young troublemakers. “The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy,” explains Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, who directed the film himself. “So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.”

Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Maximiliano Hernández, returning from Thor and The Avengers, and Lost’s Man in Black Titus Welliver, making his Marvel debut) are given the job of cleaning up the mess and stopping this modern Bonnie and Clyde (not coincidentally named Benny and Claire.)

The goal was to show some non-superpowered people reacting to the aftermath of The Avengers. “Anything that expands the world and shows you the more human elements of it, that just makes the world more colorful and fun for the average viewer,” says Eric Pearson, who wrote the screenplay for Item 47, as well as the previous two One-Shots: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer and The Consultant.
