There’s really no doubt that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a wild success, and will be considered a cinematic and comic book (and, well, pop culture) triumph for the rest of time.

With this past weekend’s release of Avengers: Endgame, however, it seems as though an incredibly central component of the MCU has come to an end, and today we’ll be talking about it. So, here’s WARNING that if you haven’t seen Endgame or the preceding Avengers films that there will be numerous spoilers ahead.

Oh snap (get it?), Endgame was a fantastic movie — there are certain plot points that I may not agree with, but nothing that made me love the film any less. That said, there is something that I haven’t seen anyone talk about that I thinks is an absolute love letter to filmmakers, fans, and Avengers followers, and that is the snap Easter egg.

As we know it, who(m)ever holds the six Infinity Stones essentially has the power of God in their hands, barring that they can survive the amount of power that flows through them. We see the Infinity Gauntlet’s ‘snap’ power a total of four times through the course of MCU, and interestingly enough, each snap has a hidden meaning symbolizing real life with it.

To start, let’s settle on who the snaps affect, and which film can we relate it to. Each of the snaps represents each of the Avengers films, and the audience’ reaction towards each one. We know this as we only see Thanos in the first Avengers film, and because the stakes were the fate of the universe, with all the stones involved in the later Avengers films. Secondly, each snap represents the audience’ reaction towards the MCU and the Avengers movies themselves.

Now, let me explain what I mean about how each snap represents each Avengers film, along with the audio message toward the end of film. The first snap happened at the climax of Infinity War, where Thanos finally obtains all six Infinity Stones fulfills his destiny. Here, most of our heroes ‘vanish’ or die, with only our original characters (along with a few more from newer films) survive. This definitely marks the end of the Marvel Universe for a while, and we see it in shambles in the beginning of Endgame.

This snap is super important, and the key factor is that it was the only snap in Infinity War. I think that it all ties in with the Box Office and fan’s reaction towards the first Avengers — after the snap, most of the original cast survives (the original six, just like the number of stones). The snap impacting half of the universe represents how Avengers impacted half of us geeks and and the general population, but it (we) simply hadn’t yet realized its full potential yet. The snap was an impactful event that started a domino effect in cinema, and the concept of a cinematic universe from there on.

Then (and here’s where we really get into Endgame spoilers) there’s the second snap. The second snap by Thanos in the garden (biblical reference of genesis) is used to destroy the Infinity Stones, just like how after Avengers: Age of Ultron the Avengers disassembled. The important part here, were the critical reviews and box office performance compared to the first film. Avengers: Age of Ultron took in 200 million dollars less than the original Avengers. This, plus the just okay reviews from fans and critics slightly alienated the audience from the the MCU. That’s why in this scenario the snap is only mentioned, rather than seen.

After resurrecting the MCU with oodles of fantastic movies, (it also benefited the genre as some of DC’s more successful films had Marvel and DC fans at each other’s throats) the third snap, representing Infinity War brought fans new and old, slightly outdrawing the first Avengers film at the Box Office. This is why this third snap is the climax of the film, and is why this third snap brings back all of the fallen heroes for that epic battle, just how in Infinity War it brought back old an new fans just for the wait.

Lastly, because of the short amount from climax (third snap) to end (fourth snap) compared to the time spent between each other snap; the last snap symbolize the end game, an end to the cycle, an end to the Infinity saga, and a rest for us audiences from any upcoming big team up movies. This is why after Tony’s snap, Pepper says to him (while also saying to us, the audience) “It’s okay, you can rest now,” (which also foreshadows the lack of a post-credits sequence this time around), ending this culmination of 22 movies and the Infinity saga… for now.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’, arguably the biggest movie event of all time, is out and we’ve all seen it (and if not, don’t listen because MAJOR SPOILER WARNINGS)! And after seeing all the characters and plotlines of this 2 and a half hour epic, we’re sure you’ve got a ton of questions! What was Doctor Strange’s plan? Who lived? Who didn’t? How will Marvel bring some of our favorite heroes back? What’s in store for us with Avengers 4? Where does Iron Man go from here? How does Captain America rebuild the Avengers? Who is stronger than Thor? Who is Captain Marvel? What does this mean for ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’? Luckily, it’s ALL ANSWERED HERE and by none other than our own Ian Kerner! To say fans were excited and lost their mind about the appearance of Thanos in Marvel’s The Avengers would be quite an understatement. Even since that scene fans have wondered when we would see the character again.  It was recently confirmed that the mad titan would be appearing again in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and Feige reveals that there are plans that have been set in stone for the character in the future.  MTV recently chatted with the man Marvel Studios Kevin Fiege, and discussed the future of The Avengers big mid-credits surprise.Feige stated:

“There’s a great track record now about lobbing something in at the last moment to get the audience buzzing. Particularly when it came to Thanos, [we knew] that most people in that audience had no idea who that purple guy was — but they could clearly tell he was important, and knew if they asked the two or three people sitting next to them, somebody would know who he was.

Clearly, there’s a purpose to us putting him in the end of that movie. We do have plans for him. I wouldn’t say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other. We succeeded in Phase One because we stuck to our guns and stuck to the plan. That plan took place over many, many years and it ultimately paid off. I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what’s right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.”

Actor Damion Poiter was the man behind Thanos first outing on the big screen but we can most likely expect another actor to play the mad titan in the future. Fiege commented on that briefly:

“I think we feel pretty free to recast. That was cast for literally that one shot. Depending on what the role requires from future movies, we’ll go from there.”

“Suddenly, you have a million people who had never heard of an Infinity Gauntlet or a Mad Titan learning those terms. I love that. I love when the experience goes beyond the movie theater and encourages people to look deeper into our universe. I was equally excited by the notion that people went out and tried shawarma for the first time.”

Pretty sure we all tried shawarma after. Actually, I now even have a place that I go get shawarma. Are you guys ready for Phase Two? And who would you guys like to see play Thanos in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

In a very surprising move Marvel has cancelled the first issue of Thanos: Son Of Titan that was supposed to be hitting shelves in October. This is especially surprising due to the amount of media coverage the character is getting as well as the amount of fans looking for Thanos filled comics. The sudden surge appeared after the character made his movie appearance in this years The Avengers in a mid-credit scene. he following appeared in Thursday’s “Marvel Mailer” update to retailers:

“*THANOS SON OF TITAN #1 (OF 5) & VAR (AUG120580-1, $2.99, FOC 09/24/12) has been cancelled.”

Thanos: Son of Titan, was set to tell the origin of the Marvel villain in a story by writer Joe Keatinge and artist Richard Elso, has received quite a bit of press even receiving an article in USA Today earlier this month. So, why the sudden cancellation? No official word on that as of yet. Perhaps it could just be a delay. We will be sure to keep you informed.

So, I was reading an article on LA Times Hero Complex and came to a section where they brought up something really interesting.

Why would Whedon sign up for that? He might not. But it’s intriguing to note that Whedon made the big push to put Thanos in “Avengers” and that Warlock was one of the reasons: ”For me, the greatest Avengers was ‘The Avengers’ annual that Jim Starlin did followed by the Thing ‘Two-in-One‘ that contained the death of Adam Warlock,” Whedon told Slash Film. “Those were some of the most important texts and, I think, underrated milestones in Marvel history.”

With him having set the gears for the movie in motion could it be entirely out of the question for Marvel to pursue him to direct? Especially due to it wouldn’t be entirely new territory for him being that one of Whedon’s best known works is Firefly. Attaching his name and the Marvel studios logo would definitely fill seats. Could Whedon be the perfect choice for this film? We will have to wait and find out during the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con Saturday in Hall H.

After ‘The Avengers’ hit theaters it was revealed that Marvel had a shot a short film in secret. The short film that will be featured on the Blu-Ray as well as receiving a screening during Comic-Con next week is titled ‘Item 47’. Now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have details on the cast and just what the 12 minute ‘Item 47’ is about and how it is expanding the Marvel universe.

The film is the latest in the company’s series of shorts dubbed “One-Shots,” a comic book term for stories that wrap up in one issue. Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, pictured) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star as a down-on-their-luck couple who find one of the discarded alien guns from the finale to The Avengers — and proceed to make some incredibly bad decisions.

Item 47 refers to the gun itself, which S.H.I.E.L.D. would like very much to retrieve from the hapless young troublemakers. “The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy,” explains Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, who directed the film himself. “So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.”

Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Maximiliano Hernández, returning from Thor and The Avengers, and Lost’s Man in Black Titus Welliver, making his Marvel debut) are given the job of cleaning up the mess and stopping this modern Bonnie and Clyde (not coincidentally named Benny and Claire.)

The goal was to show some non-superpowered people reacting to the aftermath of The Avengers. “Anything that expands the world and shows you the more human elements of it, that just makes the world more colorful and fun for the average viewer,” says Eric Pearson, who wrote the screenplay for Item 47, as well as the previous two One-Shots: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer and The Consultant.

It’s not a suprise. After the news of Marvel filling trademarks for ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ it was obvious it was coming. But according to Latino Review (who has been pretty reliable about Marvel Studios news)…it’s coming a lot sooner than we thought. Kevin Fiege has been talking some time now about doing a space epic and now it’s coming.

For those unfamiliar with ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, the comic first appeared in 1969 and was resurrected in 2008. The story centers on a group of alien beings in the 31st century who are each the last of their kind. They eventually travel back in time and interact with 20th century Marvel characters which would most likely be how the movie would end and tie into ‘The Avengers 2’.

It’s reported that we will get an official announcement at the Marvel Studios panel during San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks. We are also told to expect Nova and that the script is “incredible” and will lead up to ‘The Avengers 2’ in 2015. Oh and is Thanos in it? Yes. Yes he is.

In the last issue of Empire Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege shared his thoughts on the success of “The Avengers” and a little bit about the future films. Primarily focusing on “Thor 2”.

Fiege on the success of “The Avengers” stated “I was just hoping it would beat the opening weekend of Iron Man 2, which was the biggest opening weekend for any Marvel Studios movie. We did 80 or 90 million above that. As the numbers started coming in on Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday night, they just kept getting bigger and bigger, into areas I would never in a million years have believed.”

“The Avengers was not the finale for us,” making it clear the studio still has big plans ahead “It was a giant, giant marker, but it was never the finale. We are already well into the plan for the next phase of our little cinematic universe.” That next phase includes Thor 2, and Feige had this to say about what we should expect from the sequel. “We’re going to see the other side of Asgard. It’s not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of Avengers will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster”

After Loki’s failure in “The Avengers” and the threat made by The Other many speculated that Thanos would be the antagonist in Thors next outing. Fiege was quick to shoot that down and talk of a new villain (most likely played by Mads Mikkelson) “No, future, future. But there will be a major new villain. A major, major new antagonist…”

Could his wording be a hint? Many have begun speculating that it could be The Enchantress and The Executioner…

But could “future” indicate another “major” Marvel villain?

Guess we will have to wait and see.
