Briefly: Marvel today sent out the first preview pages for the upcoming 10th issue of Nova. This mark’s the 100th issue of the Human Rocket, and the issue is super-sized in order to celebrate.

From the press release:

This November, celebrate the milestone 100th Issue Anniversary of the Human Rocket with the supersonically supersized Nova #10! High adventure in deep space from the team of Zeb Wells & Carlo Barberi.  But that’s not all! Nova #10 also features the debut of new regular Nova writer Gerry Duggan (Deadpool) in a story drawn by superstar Nova artist Paco Medina!

Since acquiring the Nova Force it’s been a bumpy ride for fifteen year-old Sam Alexander! Fighting alongside Rocket Raccoon & Gamora, a not-so-nice encounter with the Superior Spider-Man – not to mention a run in with Thanos and his Black Order! But that’s all about to change! Big changes are coming for Nova, and it starts here! (Oh, and did we mention a guest appearance by the new New Warriors setting up their All-New Marvel Now! series in February?)

“It took us a few decades to get to #100 and Zeb’s wrap up along with Gerry’s explosive debut story is a perfect way to celebrate this well-earned anniversary,” says Senior Editor Stephen Wacker. “With the Nova Corps showing up in next summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Marvel’s coolest new hero is going to have a huge spotlight and this is the place where Nova blasts off big time!”

Don’t miss the start of a bombastic new beginning for Marvel’s sentinel of the stars whenNova #10 rockets into print and digital this November!

Take a look at the new preview pages below, and let us know if you’re enjoying Nova!

Well, we kind of already knew about these but it hadn’t been officially announced. Until today that is and with one big surprise. At New York Comic Con today Marvel revealed that next February we will see the release of Guardians Of The Galaxy #0.1 from the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis (The Avengers) and Steve McNiven (Nemesis). The first issue will then hit stands in March. The roster is the same team that will appear in the upcoming movie consisting of Starlord, Groot, Rocket Racoon, Drax, and Gamora. But, that’s not all. There’s a surprise member on the team…Iron Man!

February will also see the launch of a brand new Nova series from the team of Jeph Loeb (Batman: The Long Halloween) and Ed McGuinness (Superman/Batman) that will focus on the newest member of the Nova corps, the young Sam Alexander.

Scott Porter is definitely no stranger to Marvel. Porter was one of the contenders to portray Captain America and has expressed interest in the past in portraying Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. He’s even worked with Marvel before, voicing Scott Summers aka Cyclops in the X-Men anime.  In a recent interview with MTV the actor expressed interest in portraying another of Marvel’s characters.

“Marvel just announced that they’re doing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ which is another property that I love. I read it growing up. I’d love to play Nova.”

I think any kid who gets into the acting business, they have a couple of things that they always wanted to do. For me, it was like, play a war hero; play an athlete, which I’ve gotten to do; die a horrible death in a horror movie, which I’ve gotten to do; and then be a superhero. I’ve marked two things off the list, and I’m working on the others.

Gunn is a unique choice. I think he could be a really great shephard for that property,” added Porter. “I think ‘Guardians’ is going to be a lot of fun. I think it’ll be very cool. I thought the next thing I might try and go after is ‘Heroes for Hire,’ but it looks like ‘Guardians’ is around, so…”

The actor then went on to state that he definitely wants to portray a superhero at one point and that it was one of the things on his to-do list. It’s been rumored that Nova would appear in Guardians Of The Galaxy and I really haven’t though much of it until now. But I honestly wouldn’t be against this one. He obviously knows his source material. What do you guys think?

It seems almost daily that Marvel is announcing titles that people are going to be adding to their pull lists. And a NOVA title from Jeph Loeb (Wolverine) and Ed Mcguinness (Hulk)? We’re in.

UPDATE: Marvel has released the official image and information on the books.

Taken from Entertainment Weekly’s Comic-Con issue we have the following:

The artist behind this teaser (and Chief Creator Officer of Marvel) Joe Quesada had this to say about the new looks for these characters. “There are some costume changes. There are some new character attitudes. Some characters may be changing their identities altogether. There’s a reason Sue Storm is there. And why there’s a floating robot near Hulk. We’re trying a lot of fun and new different things, we’re exposing characters who we’ve had in our toy chest for a long time.”

UNCANNY AVENGERS

Following Avengers Vs. X-Men, Captain America will apparently decide that he hasn’t done enough for the mutants over the years and this results in a new book from writer Rick Remender and artist John Cassaday. With a team including Cap, Thor, Wolverine and Havok, this is an exciting twist which will apparently see that latter, “become one of the biggest players in the Marvel Universe.” Their first villain will be none other than the Red Skull! However, it won’t be the version most recently seen in comics as the writer explains. “In 1943, Arnim Zola, who was this bio-fanatic engineer, recorded the Red Skull’s consciousness, and set it to wake up 70 years later. So the Red Skull [in Uncanny] is right out of 1943-44. Prime Nazi scumbag. In his mind, he’s taking that vitriol and hate and Nazi horror and methodology, and pointing it at the mutant species.”

AVENGERS

“It’s not six Avengers, it’s 18 or more,” teases writer Jonathan Hickman. The book will be pencilled by Jerome Opena, and the first arc will be entitled “Avengers World”. Published twice a month, it will apparently tell five and six issue arcs as well as much smaller one-shot stories. There’s currently no word on which heroes will make up the roster, but one of them WILL be Shang-Chi.

ALL-NEW X-MEN

“The X-Men is a tough nut to crack. There’s thousands of characters, all of which have a website dedicated just to them. I wanted to make sure I had a take that was unique,” says series writer Brian Michael Bendis. As this is a time travel story, it will feature original X-Men, Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Angel, and Marvel Girl. “Here’s the big question that the original X-Men are gonna be faced with: We’re gonna grow up, and this is what we’re going to get? That is not acceptable.” Since her death in 2004, fans have been desperate to see the return of Jean Grey and that is obviously exactly what they’ll get in this series. “It’s the one thing X-Men fans have always asked for is: They want Jean Grey back. But they want Jean Grey. Not reincarnated Jean, or the ghost of Jean. Well, you’re getting Jean back. And Jean is gonna be looking at a world that rattles her.” Stuart Immonen has been confirmed as artist.

So it won’t be a reboot but there WILL be drastic changes to the Marvel U. I’m not sure how I feel about it (especially Cyke’s new Eric The Red’ish outfit) but I am glad they aren’t killing Scott Summers. I promised to never read a comic again if they did. Some of the suits look cool though. Especially Thor, Spider-Man and Nova.

Earlier today the internet exploded with excitement (trust me…check Twitter) when it hit that Marvel Studios would be announcing ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ at their San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Well now it seems that Variety has confirmed this report and even announced that the release date would be set at May 16, 2014. It’s also being reported that Nicole Perlman (who previously worked on ‘Thor’) has already written two drafts for the film and Marvel is very happy with her work. Marvel has not officially commented yet.

With a new ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ series as well as a new ‘Nova’ series on the way as well as Guardians appearing in a recent episode of ‘Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes’ and Nova having a recurring role in ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’…this announcement comes at no shock to me. But definitely has me excited more than some of the previously rumored movies that we would be seeing next. We better see some Star-Lord though or I fear Scott Alminiana may stab someone.

It’s not a suprise. After the news of Marvel filling trademarks for ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ it was obvious it was coming. But according to Latino Review (who has been pretty reliable about Marvel Studios news)…it’s coming a lot sooner than we thought. Kevin Fiege has been talking some time now about doing a space epic and now it’s coming.

For those unfamiliar with ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, the comic first appeared in 1969 and was resurrected in 2008. The story centers on a group of alien beings in the 31st century who are each the last of their kind. They eventually travel back in time and interact with 20th century Marvel characters which would most likely be how the movie would end and tie into ‘The Avengers 2’.

It’s reported that we will get an official announcement at the Marvel Studios panel during San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks. We are also told to expect Nova and that the script is “incredible” and will lead up to ‘The Avengers 2’ in 2015. Oh and is Thanos in it? Yes. Yes he is.

Post-AvX we know Marvel will be returning to their cosmic titles and it seems we may be getting more than just one. It’s already been all but officially announced that Bendis will be launching a new ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ title. And according to our friends at Bleeding Cool we will also be getting a new ‘Nova’ series to join that.

The book will most likely focus on the new Nova…Sam Alexander (Sorry Richard Rider fans). The series is said to have Ed McGuiness drawing. And while we could see writing there is also possibility that it could be Jeph Loeb.  But neither writers have been actually attached and this is just speculation and we could get an entirely different writer.

‘Avengers vs X-Men’ comes to a conclusion with round twelve and check out this fantastic variant for the finale from Jerome Opena (Uncanny X-Force) featuring a battered Avengers and Nova!
