Following the events of Age Of Ultron, there’s going to be another Avengers team on the way. Coming this July from the creative team of Sam Humphries (Uncanny X-Force) and Andre Araujo (FF), we will see the debut of Avengers A.I., featuring a team unlike any Avengers team you’ve seen before.

AvengersAI_1_Cover

New York, NY—March 29th, 2012— This July, red hot writer Sam Humphries (Uncanny X-Force) and artist Andre Araujo (FF), shine an entirely new light on an all-new, all-android Avengers team – Avengers A.I.! Spinning out of the critically acclaimed event Age Of Ultron, Avengers A.I. sends fans deeper into the synthetic core of the Marvel Universe, great for new and lapsed readers alike!

A brave new world is unleashed and only one team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can save us from the future. Gathered together by Hank Pym, The Vision leads Victor Mancha, Doombot, and the mysterious Alexis in a race to contain an unfathomable Pandora’s Box of destruction! And which side will Monica Chang, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., find herself on?

“Springing out of the increasingly razor-thin crawlspace between the organic and synthetic worlds comes ‘Avengers A.I.’,” said Axel Alonso, Editor In Chief, Marvel Entertainment. “When one of the Marvel Universe’s preeminent brainiacs, Hank Pym, embarks on a long road to redemption, he must assemble a team unlike any other, a team composed of heroes that will challenge the very definition of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and the way you look at super heroes.”

Following the harrowing events of Age Of Ultron, can Hank Pym & The Vision lead a team into the digital unknown?

“I could not be more psyched to be ushering the Avengers and the Marvel Universe into the Age of A.I.” explained Humphries. “This book is futureshock crashing into the world outside your window. Once the A.I.s are unleashed, there is no turning back. Even the phone in your pocket could be a threat against humanity. It’s an exciting and dangerous new era for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.”

Each issue of Avengers A.I. features special augmented reality content available exclusive through the Marvel AR app – including cover recaps, behind the scenes features and more that add value to your reading experience at no additional cost.

This July, Sam Humphries and Andre Araujo redefine what it means to be Earth’s Mightiest in Avengers A.I. #1!

So, oddly the teaser art is actually done by Art Adams. But come April Mike Hawthorne (Fear Agent, Hysteria) will be taking over art duties on Deadpool. Does this mean that Tony Moore is leaving the title or that Hawthorne is just doing a story arc? Guess we’re going to have to wait and find out.

So, we are going to warn you right off the bat that there are spoilers in this article. If you have not yet read Amazing Spider-Man #700 and Avenging Spider-Man #15.1, you may want to avoid reading any further.

Starting next month we’re getting a new Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe. No, the man behind the mask is not Peter Parker. Well, not exactly that is. At the conclusion of “One Dying Wish” we end an era and begin a new chapter in Spider-Man’s story. This is quite possibly one of the riskiest stories that Marvel has done and is going to lead into something quite a bit darker and different than we’ve seen in the past when it comes to Spider-Man. Trust me, writer Dan Slott definitely has some of the biggest balls in comics right now. Just check hit Twitter feed out for all the hate he is getting over this.

There’s plenty of people already complaining about issue #700 without even reading it. Hell, I would even go as far to say that most of those people don’t even read comics and haven’t for years and just feel the need to constantly complain. Fans are always screaming for something different, even though most times fear it when they get it, and Marvel is giving you what you asked for. I’ve read the issue and as a life-long fan of Spider-Man can say it’s a “superior” end to the run (pun intended).

Marvel is shaking up the status quo with Marvel NOW! in order to generate new potential for storylines. Rather than giving us the hero that we’re going to root for, Slott is going to be giving us the anti-hero that we’re more so curious about and intrigued by. As the title above states, this is going to be a character that you are going to love to hate. But why would you read this story if it isn’t Peter Parker in the suit? Well, I am going to tell you why you should give this one a shot.

Do you honestly think that Slott and the people at Marvel do not have some form of outline as to where this story will go and lead to even more exciting storylines?  I mean, this story has been builiding up for one hundred issues. Yes, it started all the way back in issue #600. And do you think that this won’t, and it most likely will, end with the triumphant return of Peter Parker? We need these kinds of risks to happen in order for stories, as well as the characters involved, to evolve and grow. If we don’t take these risks, we face the stagnant boring repetitive stories that we complain about all the time. Personally, I am excited to see where they take the Superior Spider-Man series.  Especially being that I am going to get to see him deck Wolverine straight in the face.

So, comic readers while you may hate the character (and that’s kind of the point I think), I don’t get the feeling you’re going to hate where these comics take us. Instead of being the typical jaded comic reader who fears and hates change, make sure you pick up Amazing Spider-Man #700 and Avenging Spider-Man #15.1 this week. And then give Superior Spider-Man a shot before you write it off. While you may not admit it to your friends and the rest of the world, you may just end up becoming a fan of the series.

Alright! It’s an Unexpected Journey Into Darkness! My almost complete thoughts on ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”! Why 48 fps doesn’t bother me! Are there really pacing issues? What IS the Geek Movie Of The Year? Star Trek Into Darkness gets a new trailer and 9 minutes… but what does it mean!?! Getting into comics? What should you read? ‘Adventure Time’ gets an awesome game! PLUS! Jonathan opens the FINAL issue of Nintendo Power! The sadness!

Better hurry to your local comic shop and pick up a copy before they sell out. Writer Dan Slott has been stating that retailers didn’t order enough copies of the issue, and now we’ve learned that he was definitely right. Marvel has announced that The Amazing Spider-Man #698 has sold out and is now going into a second printing.

“The end of Spider-Man’s world begins when Doctor Octopus discovers who Peter Parker really is. This is the beginning of the end to this fifty year run and you will want to see the secret that will change everything! So don’t miss the most talked about comic of the year, returning to store shelves in just a few weeks with Amazing Spider-Man #698 Second Printing Variant!”

This is definitely an issue that will be talked about for quite some time. Do yourselves a favor and go pick up a copy as soon as possible.

I didn’t even get out the front door of my comic shop before I opened up All New X-Men #1. As soon as I was done reading it I looked at the shelves hoping for more. Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen’s new series will launch the old children of the atom into the present of today after the events of AvX. Things are different now but a lot of the same. The mutant world is as chaotic as ever but now with the appearance of new mutants all over the globe we have Cyclops and his extinction team as wanted criminals fighting for mutants everywhere.

Bendis gets right to work with this issue building the stories of these new characters and re-establishing the longtime central theme that some X-books have been missing as of recent: a world full of fear and prejudice. We see the writer really do a great job of exploring both the fears of people coming face to face with mutants the first time as well as the people who discover they are mutants finding out that they are. We see the book bring in quite a few plot points at a fast pace but it works very smoothly and is an exciting read. It’s pretty impressive how well Bendis threads the plot points together in this issue.

The art work is beautiful and Immonen definitely is the right artist to be drawing the X-Men. Immonen’s characters are fantastically drawn in this dialogue heavy book and the moments never seem boring. The art never loses sight of being character-centric even when there’s a lot going on at the moment. And trust me when I say this issue has quite a bit going on in it.

Final verdict: If Bendis and Immonen can keep the series going as strong as this start…we’re in for a great run here. All-New X-Men #1 is definitely a solid  jumping on point for a new of generation X-readers as well as long time X-fans.

Grade: 4.5/5

The third Marvel NOW! ‘Next Big Thing’ press conference is going and during it writer Rick Remender revealed there will be three more characters joining the team in Uncanny Avengers.

Starting in issue #5 we will see Wonder Man, Sunfire and The Wasp join the team. Remender says that all three of the characters are there for a specific reason and explains the reason behind each character:

“Sunfire is brought in for a reason that I don’t want to give away yet, because it deals with the aftermath of the first arc. He and Wolverine have business. He has a natural reason for being there, and I love Sunfire. I’ve never had a member on any team that I feel I can write as surly as Sunfire.”

On the Avengers side, we’ve got Wonder Man, who’s going to play an interesting role. He’s now something of a pacifist, and a major reason he’s on the team is for PR purposes; using his Hollywood skills to help bridge the worlds of mutants and humans.

They don’t have a government source of funding. They’re not going to be getting orders from any government organization, so their funding comes from The Wasp.”

The latest Marvel NOW! title revealed is Fearless Defenders, a new ongoing series from Cullen Bunn (Venom) and Will Sliney (Farscape). The new title is an all-female team book, with the only two members revealed at the moment being Misty Knight and Valkyrie. Dani Moonstar will also be a member of the team with the rest of the roster being filled out over the course of time. The story will also be featuring a female main antagonist that’s a creator creation from Bunn. Take a look at Mark Brooks cover for the first issue below.

Marvel relaunched another very popular character today as part of Marvel NOW! Tony Stark is back with a new creative team and a few news toys. And this first story arc references back to a story from years ago: Extremis. Obviously, Marvel is introducing the popular storyline to those who have not read it and is giving people an idea of it just in time for the release of Shane Black’s Iron Man 3.

The story starts by seeing Tony going back to some of his playboy ways. However, this is quickly brought to an end after he receives a special message from Maya Hansen, the inventor of the Extremis formula. It seems that she was kidnapped and forced to recreate it for A.I.M. before being killed. So, now it’s up to Tony to get these demons back into the bottle.

This is definitely a solid first issue. The story is interesting and the only problem that I can really find is that sometimes it takes a little longer to get to the action than you’d expect. I don’t mean that in a negative sense because the issue is hardly boring at all. There’s a lot going on in this issue that is obviously setting things up for what’s to come but at times it seems to drag a bit. Kieron Gillen does handle the writing job overall pretty well especially when it comes to writing Tony’s character. If there was anyone right to take over on Iron Man… it’s definitely Gillen.

As far as the artwork goes I really do like Greg Land on this book. There are plenty of people who dislike that he uses quite a bit of photo reference in his art. However, with the team of Greg Land on pencils, Jay Leisten as inker and Guru eFX on colors, this is a gorgeous title. The best scenes of course come when Tony is armored up and let’s the suit rip.

Final verdict: The first issue of the new series isn’t mind blowing but it is definitely a good jumping on point for new readers as well as something that older readers can enjoy. The series definitely seems to have quite a bit of promise and I am on board to see where it goes. Hopefully the story picks up after this introduction. A solid issue overall though.

Grade: 3.5/5

Love him or hate him, it’s undeniable that Deadpool has gone on to become one of Marvel’s most popular characters over the years. Many characters like Wade Wilson seem to hit a popular point with fans and then see a decline over time. That definitely hasn’t been a problem for ol’ Wade.

Some of his fans weren’t too fond of his last run with writer Daniel Way (who will still be writing Deadpool in Thunderbolts… sorry guys!). Myself, I am a huge Deadpool fan and overall I found his run to be just alright. It wasn’t bad but at the same time it wasn’t great. So, when Marvel announced that they’d be relaunching the series with the creative team of Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn and Tony Moore… well, to say that I was interested would be quite the understatement.

Based on this first issue alone, they definitely chose the right guys for the job here. The first story arc alone is quite possibly going to be one of the most offensive and out of this world stories that Marvel has released in quite some time. If you haven’t read the issue or seen anything about it I am going to keep this short: zombie president is out to destroy the USA and start it from scratch. Trust me, when you get to the final few pages of this issue you’re going to be wanting more.

Hands down this was one of the most fun comics I have read in months… years even. The jokes are funny, the violence is ridiculous and just out there and it really returns Wade Wilson to the tone that the fans have been wanting. I think this was one of the main complaints about the last run, to be honest. Fans wanted less goofy and something more along the lines of how the character was treated in Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force.

Now, while the story is awesome… the thing that really stands out here is Tony Moore’s artwork. Who better to do a story about zombie presidents than one of the creators of The Walking Dead? And honestly, I can say that this is some of my favorite work by him. Who would have thought that one day I would call a Deadpool comic… beautiful? Not me. But there’s so much detail in each panel of this book that I don’t think any other word would be right to use.

Final verdict: The first wave of Marvel NOW! books is setting the bar high already. This was a perfect relaunch for the character and it definitely is going to be drawing in some new readers. If it’s not on your pull list yet… add it. In Wade we trust!

Grade: 4.5/5

It appears Cyclops and his Extinction team will be getting their own title next February. The latest Marvel NOW! teaser seems to indicate that Uncanny X-Men will be getting relaunched with an all-new #1 from the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Chris Bachalo. If you haven’t been reading AvX Consequences…you better start catching up now.

Ryan Meinerding, a concept artist for Marvel Studios, had created an awesome variant for  Rick Remender and John Romita Jr.’s Captain America #1! Better set some money to the side because this is one of the best variants that I have seen in awhile and sure to sell out quickly. The future of Marvel is now!

Thrust into a bizarre, inhospitable world far from home, the all-new, high-adventure, mind-melting, tough-as-nails, sci-fi, pulp-fantasy era of Captain America is NOW! With no country and no allies, what’s left for the Sentinel of Liberty to protect? The Saga of Dimension Z begins here!

What, you really thought he was going to stay locked up? It really shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that Cyke is back and looking more bad-ass than ever in this unlettered preview for Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen’s All New X-Men #2.  Bendis clearly has big plans for the character in this series and it appears that Scott and his team are going to be out there helping the new mutants popping up after AvX.

During the Amazing Spider-Man panel at New York Comic-Con this past weekend, a young fan asked:

“Why you don’t do ‘Spider-Man 2099’ comics anymore?”

The crowd got excited over this question. Steve Wacker then replied with:

“We’ll do it for you. We don’t know when and where.”

Could he have been just saying this to make the kid happy or could we possibly honestly see the return of fan-favorite Miguel O’Hara? I wouldn’t doubt this being that O’Hara has actually had a big role in recent Spider-Man games including Edge Of Time and Shattered Dimensions.

Well, we kind of already knew about these but it hadn’t been officially announced. Until today that is and with one big surprise. At New York Comic Con today Marvel revealed that next February we will see the release of Guardians Of The Galaxy #0.1 from the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis (The Avengers) and Steve McNiven (Nemesis). The first issue will then hit stands in March. The roster is the same team that will appear in the upcoming movie consisting of Starlord, Groot, Rocket Racoon, Drax, and Gamora. But, that’s not all. There’s a surprise member on the team…Iron Man!

February will also see the launch of a brand new Nova series from the team of Jeph Loeb (Batman: The Long Halloween) and Ed McGuinness (Superman/Batman) that will focus on the newest member of the Nova corps, the young Sam Alexander.

Newsarama caught up with Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada during New York Comic Con where they chatted it up about a number of things. The first thing Quesada talked about was Guardians Of The Galaxy. He revealed that you can expect the new Guardians Of The Galaxy title for Marvel NOW! to go along with the movie in some ways.

“There is stuff that I know is going on with the movie that we might be able to apply to the Marvel Cosmic Universe. And try and develop that Synergy. Not to copy one from the other, but to make it look like it’s on the same page.”

He also stated that it is important to make sure that not only is it important to capture what the comic book fans want in these projects, but also to make sure general audiences understand what they are seeing in these movies.

Quesada also revealed that there is currently a secret project that him and Marvel Studios are working on right now.

“There is a project I am very much involved in, and I’ll give you this hint. I have to go to the West Coast to work on it. There have been rumors about it little things have leaked here and there, but there has been no official announcement.”

So, looking at things, there are a couple of movies that have been talked about but nothing official up to now but there are definitely two major ones. We could possibly be looking at a Black Panther or Doctor Strange film to finally be announced but it will most likely not happen until next year’s San Diego Comic-Con most likely.

Next February, Secret Avengers is getting relaunched from the creative team of Nick Spencer (Iron Man 2.0) and Luke Ross (Captain America). But, this isn’t going to be the same Secret Avengers we’re used to.

“S.H.I.E.L.D. has decided that they want their own Avengers team. But Avengers are loose cannons: They’re independent operators, they don’t have security clearance, they have a history of becoming bad guys.”

This sounds pretty normal except for one small thing. Well, it’s not that small. According to Entertainment Weekly:

“Thanks to the memory implant technology first seen in the 2005 Brian Michael Bendis-scripted series Secret War, Nobody on this team actually knows that they’re on this team.”

Meaning that with one word they join the team only to have thier memories wiped clean directly after the mission.

Nick Spencer’s breakdown of the core members of the team:

Hawkeye: “Clint led the last incarnation of Secret Avengers, the team that Steve Rogers put together. He’s not in charge anymore. So there’s some adjustment to be made. He’s in an interesting place. But I have to keep quiet!”

Black Widow: “She has a such a higher profile than ever. She’s kind of the leading female character at Marvel at this point.”

Nick Fury: “One of the most important distinctions between this Nick Fury and the Nick Fury that a lot of folks are familiar with from the film franchise is that this Nick is a field agent, and he’s a very new field agent. He comes from a lot of time in military service in Afghanistan, and that shapes his worldview and his standard operating procedures.”

Mockingbird: “Also known as Bobbie Chase, Hawkeye’s Ex-Wife. So we have some fun dynamics to play with there.”

Taskmaster: “A favorite of mine. I was at the Con today, and I saw three Taskmaster costumes!”

Iron Patriot: “I can’t reveal the identity of the Iron Patriot yet, but I think people are gonna like how he ends up in that suit. That’s a suit that has a lot of history in the Marvel Universe, none of it good.”

Hulk: “An on-call member of this team, and a walking weapon of mass destruction. They’ll use him judiciously, but when they do, it’ll really count.”

The Winter Soldier: “[Bucky will have] a huge role in the book.”

Well, this is sure to be a much sought after variant right here. Brian Lee O’Malley, the mind behind Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, will be providing an awesome variant for Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie’s Young Avengers #1.

Today we get our first look at The Superior Spider-Man. The relaunched series will be replacing The Amazing Spider-Man after issue #700 hits stands. Whatever happens in that final issue, which is said to be major, will result in a very new and different direction for Peter Parker, that is being described as “a far darker Spider-Man than fans have ever seen.”

Writer Dan Slott commented on the new direction:

“The one thing that does not go with this Spider-Man is the term ‘Friendly neighborhood. I’ve always been the omniscient hand that’s been protecting Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and not letting anything too bad happen to him. And now I’ve become this cruel god. There’s something exciting about that, about going, ‘Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha, here is what’s going to happen to you, Spider-Man!’ And it’s drastic and it’s big and it’s exciting and it’s never been done before.”

Artists Humberto Ramos, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Ryan Stegman will be taking on art duties for the first three-issue arc, “Hero Or Menace”.

Next January, Uncanny X-Force is getting relaunched from the creative team of Sam Humphries (The Ultimates) and Ron Garney (Fantastic Four). Oliver Coipel’s cover for the first issue has been revealed and shows an interesting line-up with some newly designed costumes. You also see Bishop, who was last seen stranded in the future after he failed to kill Cable and Hope Summers, who one can assume will the series first villain. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the line-up is though…who or what is this female version of Fantomex?

It’s been rumored for awhile now and today it has been revealed that Kieron Gillen (Journey Into Mystery) and Jamie McKelvie (Defenders) will be teaming up to bring us Marvel NOW!’s Young Avengers. The team consists of Wiccan, Kid Loki, Miss America Chavez, Hawkeye (not Clint Barton), Hukling and Marvel Boy.

About a week ago Marvel release a teaser that just simply read Savage and revealed Frank Cho on the book. It was pretty obvious that this would be a Wolverine title but it appears the word savage had more to it. It seems we will see Logan heading to the The Savage Land in the new series that will feature Shanna the She-Devil as a supporting character.

Cho, who be both writing and drawing the title, describes the book as a “a cool Indiana Jones/Cthulhu type story” and that “..The story takes place in the forbidden area of the Savage Land where an evil ancient god slumbers. Wolverine and others accidentally unleash it, while trying to get back home.” But bad news for fans of Ka-Zar. Cho reveals that we shouldn’t be expecting him to appear in the story but that should keep an eye out for some of the other Savage Land staples.

Not too long ago a Marvel NOW! teaser was revealed that just read “Superior” that led to much speculation as to what it meant. Earlier today USA Today revealed the following teaser which seem to confirm that Dan Slott , Ryan Stegman, Humberto Ramos and Giuseppe Camuncoli will be working on a new Marvel NOW! Spidey book.

The red and blue definitely also seems to be a clue. December’s issue #700 will be the final issue for The Amazing Spider-Man and it’s been talked about that there are some major changes coming for Peter Parker. But what these changes could be is up to anyone’s guess.

Marvel has started releasing another batch of teasers for their upcoming Marvel NOW! titles and the newest one is pretty obvious. It appears that Frank Cho is taking over on Wolverine. Three claw marks should be obvious enough. The most interesting part is the word savage being used due to Logan’s current ways of being. Could we be seeing a return to the more brutal berserker Wolverine?

This January, in Daniel Way and Steve Dillon’s Thunderbolts #3, we will see the debut of the Red Leader! Marvel has also revealed that all the Marvel NOW! new Thunderbolts covers have a red tint to them, and that there’s a “story reason” for that.

This GeekscapePod is a bit packed! I give an update on ‘Doc of the Dead’ and our friend Matt Mogk’s campaign to get George Romero his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Three really strong movies are out now that you should see: ‘Looper’, ‘Dredd 3D’ and ‘End of Watch’. I list why Rion Johnson should be at the top of the list for Doctor Strange directors! ‘Happy’ is almost more of the same from Grant Morrison! Our ‘Sinister’ screening kicked ass! ‘Marvel NOW’ can’t come soon enough and I take it upon myself to welcome Nintendo into the 21st Century!

If you’re planning on buying all the variants for Uncanny Avengers #1, I feel bad for your wallet. There are now eighteen revealed covers for the issue and the two most recent ones are sure to be sought after.

First up we have a Neal Adams variant, which is also available in a sketch version, which we are sure you’re going to want.

And then, being that issue comes out in October, we also have a special Halloween variant. No tricks, just a treat.
