[This unboxing is based on a sample provided by Loot Crate.]

The previous two months of Loot Wear crates, for the most part, haven’t wowed me. The quality has been fine, and all but the licenses used just weren’t within my realm of interests. That completely changed with this month’s shipment. Bearing the theme “Magical,” the titles included are Kingdom Hearts, Harry Potter, Dr. Strange, and Adventure Time.

lootwearnov16-khscarf

My favorite item from this month is the Kingdom Hearts Icons Scarf. It is very soft and consists of several layers, providing a considerable amount of warmth. It is a nice, subtle way to show your love for the game series in the cold weather months.

lootwearnov16-harrypottersocks

Dobby would have loved these. The Harry Potter socks are so freaking cute I don’t know whether to put them on my feet or frame them! The print bears a mix of the story’s characters (Hedwig in the cage!) along with spells. Expecto Patronum!

lootweardnov16-hogwartsloungepants

Harry Potter‘s other item is the Crest Logo (lounge) pants. Like the lounge pants found in this month’s Loot Anime crate, these are made of a light jersey fabric. The four Houses in Hogwarts are represented here: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. One neat detail about the print on the pants is that House crests are made to look like patches with faux stitching around the edging.

lootweardnov16-drstrangesocks

The second pair of socks is themed to Doctor Strange with the Eye of Agamotto on the top of each. These would make a fun accessory to a cosplay outfit.

lootwearnov16-drstrangeshirt

Building on the the whole “ugly Christmas sweater” trend, Loot Wear included a Doctor Strange shirt that imitates sweater patterns. In all honesty, the shirt graphic more brings to mind NES graphics rather than the stitches on a garment. It is still nifty, though.

lootwearnov16-adventuretimeunderwear

I think it is combination of my not wearing men’s underwear and lack of interest in the Adventure Time series that adds up to this pair of Earl of Lemongrab underwear being the least cool item in the crate. All things considered, five out of six is a pretty dang good.

If this unboxing has you interested in subscribing, you can get some money off of your first Crate either by following this link or entering “Geekscape” into the promo code area upon checkout.

Stakes! Box Art 2DWith the growing popularity Marceline and  one of the better story arcs from last season, she was finally given a whole mini series, Stakes!, which originally aired back in November on Cartoon Network. The series takes a look at Marceline’s struggle with being a vampire in the Land of Ooo.

The Miniseries consists of eight episodes going over her constant internal struggles with being a vampire with flashbacks of her time as a vampire hunter and how it ultimately lead to her becoming one herself. Marceline decides that she no longer wants to be a vampire, and turns to Princess Bubblegum to make that wish come true. Just as PB removes the vampire essence from Marceline, five of her foes  that were thought to be long dead reappear. Marceline now must faces her old foes including her biggest nemesis, the Vampire King.

S7e7_marcy_and_simon (1)

As a casual fan of  Adventure Time, I was always a big fan of any of the story lines that revolved around Marceline, especially if it includes Simon (a.k.a. Ice King). I thoroughly enjoyed the series and appreciate the overall message of self acceptance and the journey one must take to overcome it. Watching this with the kid, I asked her what did she take away from the series and her response was perfect. She understands that one doesn’t have to go through the rough times alone, and that friends and family will always be there to help.

Unlike the main series, the plot was kept very tight and forward moving without much of the usual random crazy antics. My favorite episode of the series happens to be “May I Come In?” Taking cues from classic vampire lure, the gang has to use its wits to somehow outsmart a shape shifting vampire known as Hierophant (Paul Williams) whose greatest weakness is not being able to enter any premises without permission.

The ‘Adventure Time: Stakes!’ DVD consists of the eight episodes of the series, animatics, song demos and an art gallery. All the bonus features that gives a nice look into what goes into making the show. The DVD was just recently released on January 19 and is currently available on Amazon.

It’s really a great overall addition to the show, and a great way to flesh out one of its most popular characters.

I met Martin at San Diego Comic Con about 3 years ago when he was selling his book Encyclopedia of Hell. He and I spent lots of time talking at the Geekscape booth and I’ve been trying to get him on the podcast since. After 3 years of conflicting schedules he’s finally on the show!

Martin wrote for such shows as Rocko’s Modern Life, Extreme Ghostbusters, Phineas and Ferb and voices the Lord of Evil on Adventure Time. He is also the author of The Adventure Time Encyclopedia. Now he can add Saint Mort Show Guest to his resume!

The intro music contains the song Never Been by In All the Same Houses.

Briefly: This game looks amazing.

Following last year’s Zelda II inspired Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage?, a new trailer for the next Adventure Time video game launched at this year’s SDCC.

The trailer is brief, featuring interviews from a few of the show’s cast members and showing off some short clips of gameplay, but I already feel as though I’ve seen enough. Explore The Dungeon Because I Don’t Know! is a four-player cooperative isometric hack-n’-slash, and I cannot wait to gather a few friends to play it.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’re excited! Adventure Time: Explore The Dungeon Because I Don’t Know! hits PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and 3DS on November 12th.

Alright! It’s an Unexpected Journey Into Darkness! My almost complete thoughts on ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”! Why 48 fps doesn’t bother me! Are there really pacing issues? What IS the Geek Movie Of The Year? Star Trek Into Darkness gets a new trailer and 9 minutes… but what does it mean!?! Getting into comics? What should you read? ‘Adventure Time’ gets an awesome game! PLUS! Jonathan opens the FINAL issue of Nintendo Power! The sadness!
