About the Show

This podcast is hosted by myself, Dr. Matt Zakreski, a clinical psychologist and speaker, alongside our co-host and producer Jake Noonan, an educational coach and humanities teacher. We are here to leverage our personal and professional experiences as neurodivergent specialists to inform and entertain the world around us. And, since we can’t do that on our own, we’ve collected an incredible group of professionals from all walks of life who use their time and talent to support the neurodivergent community. When we know more, we do better, and the goal of the #NooN podcast is to provide our listeners with as much information as possible to make your lives better. Because, as Dr. Matt always says, we can’t always make your lives EASY, but we can make them EASIER – and that is just as important! If you’re neurodivergent, someone who loves a neurodivergent person, or works with neurodivergent people, then Nerding out on Neurodiversity is the show for you. Come on this journey with us! We’ll laugh, cry, learn, and make obscure nerdy pop culture references, we’ll have fun – we promise!

About the Show

There are 967 episodes of Star Trek. Some are good, some are great, and the rest we’ll still watch from time to time because, why not? Star Trek is like pizza or sex: even when it’s bad, it’s still kinda good.

It’s a Star Trek podcast that seeks to establish the pecking order for its extensive canon. Which episodes are classic examples of Star Trek or simply good (TREK), which are all-timers (MARRY), and which are episodes that are okay to watch just once and then forget about (KILL)?

Hosts Bryan and Kristen and the occasional special guest ask a series of questions to arrive at a final judgment, questions like, “What part of this story would be taught at Starfleet Academy?” “What’s the Best Trek Trope?” “Could the episode have been hornier and would that have made it better?” and many more. It’s sort of like playing F***, Marry, Kill, but a lot more fun because it’s about Star Trek!

About the Show

In Defense of Fandom explores the world of fandom, focusing on creativity, community, and collaboration. The show, pulling from interviews with creators and fandom research, illuminates the ways that fandom can be an incredibly positive influence in our lives.

In season one, the podcast focused on the creative output of the SPN Family, as Supernatural fans call themselves, a lens to understand fandom activities as a whole. Season two broadened the premise by exploring how the ending of a TV series can affect its fandom. Topics ranged from whether the ending is good/terrible/divisive to whether it matters if the show is cancelled or goes out on its own terms to attempted revivals and reboots. Season three took a step back from television and expanded the scope even further, looking at parasocial relationships. The third season examined how and why we form parasocial bonds, how these bonds can be beneficial (and detrimental), and what a parasocial relationship looks like from the side of the star/musician/creator.

The Upcoming Season four, created in collaboration with Denim-Wrapped Nightmares, celebrates the 20th anniversary of Supernatural by taking a look at the music of the show: the music that made the show, music inspired by the show, and music from the show’s cast, writers, and crew.

This week, we’re diving into one of the most bizarre R&B hits of the 80s. With its slick production and dramatic monologue, “The Rain” by Oran “Juice” Jones became a Top 10 smash in 1986 before fading into obscurity. Not EVERYONE forgot the track, however, as Donald Glover and the cast of Saturday Night Live resurrected it in 2018 with a spot-on and hilarious parody. This week, we’re joined by Two Dollar Late Fee host Zak Shaffer to unpack this forgotten gem, the wild narrative it spins, and the legacy of a one-hit wonder who made heartbreak sound strangely cinematic.
