‘Henry Danger’ star Cooper Barnes is a longtime Geekscapist and one of the only superheros that we can also call our friend (most are our enemies)! Before he suits up for a fifth season as Captain Man, Cooper drops by Geekscape to talk about whether or not this will be the show’s final season, how Nickelodeon broke it to him that Captain Man’s name won’t be in the title of the Henry Danger cartoon spin off and talk to us about Gremlins. Actually, about 80% of this episode is Cooper and I talking about Gremlins and working through the plotline of our proposed ‘Gremlins 3’ movie. And of course we talk some ‘Infinity War’ and a couple of other things. But yeah, it’s almost entirely Gremlins. Have fun.

For about the past week, WB Games has been teasing fans about what’s next to come for their toys to life genre game Lego Dimensions, and today we finally got an answer.

Expect things to get even CRAZIER than they did in the first one because they are once again going all out. Some of the newcomers are Adventure Time, Harry Potter, Mission Impossible, Gremlins, Goonies, and many more. Even Sonic is joining in on the fun. YES YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT! SONIC THE FREAKING HEDGEHOG HIMSELF. Not much more is known about the game whether it’s a full on sequel or just a massive expansion, but it seems like most of this stuff will be releasing this fall for PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Wii U. Are you excited about this? What franchise do you still want to see in Lego Dimensions? Tell us in the comments below!

Coming September 27th

-Ghostbusters Story Pack
-Adventure Time Level Pack
-Mission: Impossible Level Pack-
-Harry Potter Team Pack
-Adventure Time Team Pack
-The A-Team Fun Pack

Coming later are sets based on:

-Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
-The LEGO® Batman Movie
-The Goonies
-Sonic The Hedgehog
-Teen Titans Go!
-LEGO® City Undercover
-Knight Rider
-The Powerpuff Girls
-Gremlins
-Beetlejuice
-E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

Hey Millenials! You like Gremlins, right?? Of course you do! Critters? Well, duh! How about the K-Mart spawn of both franchises thrown in a blender with some funky 8-tracks, the Pee-Wee’s Playhouse DVD set, and an economy-sized bottle of Viagra? Take a sip of that, it probably tastes like 1987’s Munchies! The guys tear this one apart, which inevitably lead to a number of (thankfully) less sexually-charge, more kid-friendly sequels. Hope you’re hungry, cuz it’s Horror Movie Night!

Leave your logic at the door and don’t forget to wipe your feet, cuz this week we’re discussing Spookies! From the worst birthday surprises to farting muck men, there was a lot of WTF to cover, but Matt kept Scott and Adam from wandering too far into the spookiest house of horrors 1986 cinema could muster. Grab the Beano, it’s Horror Movie Night!

Don’t feed them after midnight. Gremlins are coming back!

After hearing Stone-Cold Steve Austin on a recent episode of Geekscape claiming that he was working on a new Gremlins I thought….yeah right!

Bloody Disgusting just got the official word that a Gremlins reboot is moving forward at Warner Bros., and that Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is attached to produce the film along with David Katzenberg.

Gremlins has hit that perfect sweet spot where it has been long enough since its release that you either remember it and want to see a new take, or you belong to an entirely new generation that simply hasn’t had the pleasure of experiencing the original film.

Gremlins came out in 1984 and was (and remains) wonderful to watch. I’m sincerely looking forward to this remake, and can’t wait to see more from the project.

Warner Bros. Pictures is currently negotiating with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment to reboot the beloved Gremlins. Apparently, this isn’t the first attempt to reboot the 1984 horror comedy and the numerous attempts in the past have all fallen through.

However, sources are claiming that this time around it’s looking good and we may need to be warned again not to give Mogwai’s water after midnight. There’s no further details regarding the project, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as more is learned about it.

The fine folks at Warner Bros. want you to know that Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch are finally out on Blu-ray today. In fact, the Gremlins disc is a 25th Anniversary Edition and both pretty loaded with extras.

I’ve been waiting for these to be released for a while now. The first Gremlins movie holds a really special place in my heart. I remember my father taking my brother Paul and I to see it while my older brother Daniel went to see The Karate Kid with my mom. It drove me nuts. I wanted a Gizmo of my own. At the same time, I was haunted by the horrible things that would happen if I ever messed up and I was pretty scarred by the final image of Stripe’s skeleton falling apart in the last scene in the garden center. At the same time, we laughed like crazy when the old woman in the motorized lift went sailing out the window. Really, what person who grew up in the 80s and 90s doesn’t know the rules for raising a Mogwai?

The movie really has so many scenes that have become classic. I almost feel sorry for kids today because there’s really no modern equivalent. Can you think of a kids movie released in the last 20 years that is just as dark, funny and well done as the original Gremlins (and remember that Jurassic Park is now over 20 years old!)? Joe Dante really doesn’t get enough credit for what he and Stephen Spielberg accomplished with this film (and my wife considers it a holiday staple).

Now, Gremlins 2: The New Batch is a mixed bag, but one that I’ve come to love almost as much over the years. It really took a lot of risks with some of the jokes (a sexualized hooker Gremlin anybody?) and is kind of a more interesting movie in some respects. The first time that I saw it was in Guadalajara with my cousins and besides being the first time I’d seen Christopher Lee on film, it led to one of the big mysteries of my childhood. It concerns the scene midway through the movie in which the fourth wall is broken and Hulk Hogan shows up to address the audience and get rid of the Gremlins that are interrupting the film. Now, thanks to Wikipedia, I know that The Hulkster is in the theatrical version of the film. But on home video, the scene was altered to have a voice acted John Wayne kick the Gremlins out of your VCR. I got in so many middle school arguments while insisting that Hulk Hogan was in a version of that scene… and I was right! I just couldn’t prove it until the advent of Youtube or this Blu-ray was finally released! It has the alternate home video sequence as one of the extras!

Okay. So I love these films. As much as I want to see the franchise continue, if it’s not done right, I’d rather live with what we’ve got. And these Blu-rays make that option so much more agreeable.

Agreeable…?

Here’s the box art for each, their synopsis (in case you’re living in a cave and know nothing about Gremlins) and the extras for each disc. And I look forward to having you over this holiday for a Gremlins 2 part marathon… but it has to be over by midnight.

Gremlins (it’s $7.99 from the WB store? Ridiculous!)

Gremlins is a wildly original roller-coaster ride of hilarious mischief. One minute your hair will stand on end, the next you’ll hold your sides with laughter at the havoc these supposedly gentle furballs create when the rules surrounding their care and feeding are inadvertently broken one fateful Christmas. Written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante, Gremlins unleashes special effects that dazzle and enchant and merriment that lingers in the memory. And isn’t that “what superior popular moviemaking is all about” (Richard Corliss, Time).
