Zack Snyder might not be the most respected man in Hollywood right now (quite the opposite), but to be fair, the guy has the weight of an entire cinematic universe on his shoulders every day.

About an hour ago, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Snyder is suddenly stepping down from his role as director for the upcoming Justice League film alongside his wife Deborah Snyder who produces the DCEU films. The reason for stepping away is due to the sudden death of their daughter Autumn who committed suicide. While we don’t necessarily like his films, this must be incredibly hard on him and his family, so we here at Geekscape.net would like to wish Mr. Snyder the best and hope his family can make a recovery after such a tragic event.

In the meantime, Joss Whedon will take charge of Justice League, shooting extra scenes and finishing up the final edit of the film so that it can make its November 17th deadline. Once again, we wish Mr. Snyder and his family the best and hope they can overcome this.

This morning Variety broke the big news that DC has secured and gotten Joss Whedon, yes, THAT Joss Whedon, to direct the standalone Batgirl movie. While people endlessly celebrate and get excited, there are still some things that DC should be nervous about. Whedon is a phenomenal director, but there are problems with him that could hurt DC if they aren’t careful. The first thing to consider is that if Whedon isn’t happy with what’s going on, he won’t be shy talking about it. Everyone by now knows about his infamous fallout with Marvel and the meltdown he had when he was forced to put in Thor’s vision scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron if he wanted to keep Hawkeye’s family story line. That fallout was Josh Trank levels of bad, and it shows since he hasn’t really done anything notable since.

Also building off of him not staying quiet about things is that since his recent return to social media, Whedon has gotten very political. I get that you care very much about your country and what happens in it, but talking about it at almost a nauseating extent is getting you up there on Amy Schumer levels of political talk, and you DON’T want to be anywhere near there.

Nonetheless, this is a great chance for DC to really pick themselves up from their rut, and this is a great risk for them to take. Let’s just hope it doesn’t blow up in their face. What are you thoughts on the announcement? Tell us in the comments below!

UPDATE: It seems like ComingSoon.net has just confirmed that Reeves will indeed be directing and producing the film. What an emotional roller coaster

Well, that was quick

2 weeks ago we reported that WB and Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves  were in talks to make him the director of the upcoming Ben Affleck solo film The Batman, but it seems as though DC & WB can just never win when it comes to the DCEU. According to people on the inside of the company, Reeves and WB have already stopped talks. These series of events continue to be an ongoing nightmare for both companies as the companies still have no concrete movie releases after 2018’s Aquaman.  The only way for the DCEU to really get back on track right now is Wonder Woman.  If this film can’t overcome another Rotten Tomatoes thrashing then will people be willing to go and see Justice League? What are your thoughts on these events? Who do you think would make a great director for The Batman. Tell us in the comments below!

Late last night WB and DC announced that they have finally found their director for Ben Affleck’s The Batman.

Matt Reeves, Director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes has officially been chosen to helm the caped crusaders next adventure. Now that they’ve chosen a pretty solid director, it’s now up to the writing team to deliver a solid, comprehensible script. Affleck has stated multiple times that he will refuse to do the film unless the script gets all the love and attention it can get (Unlike the past 3 DC movies.) Overall, a safe choice, but the company really isn’t in the position to make any risky moves right now.

What are your thoughts on this new director news? Who would you have chosen to direct the film? Tell us in the comments below!

Earlier today Deadline reported that DC’S Green Lantern Corps. movie (slated for 2020) has finally secured a pair of writers which will be David Goyer and Justin Rhodes. While Goyer has been a writer for the Dark Knight Trilogy, most of his other work isn’t very well received by fans and critics (like Blade: Trinity), and Rhodes hasn’t really done much to really properly critique him. The film is said to be along the lines of Lethal Weapon in space, and will star the 2 most popular Lanterns, John Stewart and Hal Jordan. The film has no release date or actors yet, but DC seems pretty confident in announcing this right now, but maybe, just maybe they should focus on making the upcoming Wonder Woman and Justice League good films.

What are your thoughts on the announcement? Tell us in the comments below!

6 years ago a small animated super hero show premiered on Cartoon Network before being abruptly cancelled 3 years later. This show was Young Justice.

As a result of its cancellation, Fans spent 3 years begging and pleading for the series to brought back whether it be distributed via a TV network, or a digital means such as Netflix. Well, all those years of petitioning and dedication have finally payed off! DC and WB officially announced this morning that Young Justice will finally be getting its long awaited and deserved 3rd season. No details have been released on when and where the season will premiere, but fans have been assured that the show is indeed in production again. Are you excited for the return of Young Justice? What are your favorite episodes of the series? Tell us in the comments below!

Well, this is an odd, but interesting announcement.

According to an exclusive from Deadline , Johnny Depp has officially signed on with Warner Bros. to co-star in the 2018 sequel to this years Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. While there are a couple of fans suggesting that Depp could be playing Grindlewald, another group of fans suggesting that he could in fact be playing a young Dumbledore instead. This may incite rage into some people, but honestly there is hope for Depp. While he hasn’t exactly been on a role with his more recent film appearances, people tend to forget that Depp really was a powerhouse actor.

An actors only as good as his Director, and that’s exactly what he needs, which is someone to keep him from going too overboard with his roles. Anyways, what do you think about the casting? Do you think this is a good idea? Tell us in the comments below!

Just when you thought things were looking up for DC and WB, everything comes tumbling down.

Dope and former Flash director Rick Famuyiwa has parted ways the company and film due to creative differences according to an article by The Hollywood Reporter. Whether  Famuyiwa left on his own accord or was forced out by WB & DC is yet to be known, but this poses a big problem for the upcoming speedster flick. Mostly because this film is supposed to start filming in March and they don’t even have a first draft of a script or a director now.flashNot only that, but main star Ezra Miller is extremely busy with other projects so making the March 2017 deadline doesn’t seem likely. Even more grim however is the prospect of a 2018 release is slowly sliding further and further away. God knows DC can’t rush the films production seeing as how they still have yet to make a film that satisfies both critics and fans (or even functions as an actual movie.) What do you think?  Who do you think should direct The Flash now? Tell us in the comments below!

While it pleased fans, many people (such as me) were frustrated and dissapointed with WB and DC’S second DCEU film Suicide Squad.

It seemed like there was a great film wanting to break out of there, but it was completely torn to pieces in post production as the film had sparatic cutting which resulted in scenes not making sense, characters not getting enough screen time, and many plot elements not properly explained well. Add to the fact that joker actor Jared Leto revealed that about 90% + of his joker was cut out, and many more things, there weren’t many people happy about the film.

Of course there really wasn’t anything else playing in theaters in august so the film was basically king of the box office for the entire month. Now, as multiple people predicted, it seems that this may have been intentional. This morning it was announced that Suicide Squad would be getting an extended edition. This extended cut aims to re insert a lot of the darker elements and a lot more of the Joker and Harley and origin stories. The question remains though, can an extended cut really save this movie? Guess we’ll find out?

Check out the the announcement trailer below and tell us what you think in the comments! Suicide Squad: Extended Edition will release November 15th on digital, and December 13th on Blu-Ray.

We already know Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman will be making an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, but could a Justice League panel also be on the way?

Justice league

Yesterday, Ben Affleck himself said “We’ll be there,”  in response to a question as to whether or not he’ll be at SDCC this year. While he didn’t outright mention the Justice League film, we do know that the film is currently filming. Another possibility is that Affleck will be there to talk about his upcoming Batman solo-film.  Still, with Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman already making an appearance there, we might be in for one huge panel.

In any case, with Marvel making an appearance this year, after going MIA last year, SDCC 2016 is shaping up to be big.

seth_grahame_smith

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) is in talks with Warner Bros’. to direct and write ‘The Flash’ movie.

The movie project has a treatment from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) with the possibility of directing the film. Instead, they will be helming the Han Solo Star Wars movie, causing Warner Bros’ to search for a new director.

With a release date of March 3, 2018, ‘The Flash’ already has casted Ezra Miller as Flash, aka. Barry Allen. Flash is due to be introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then more prominently in Justice League Part 1, which is set to be released in the summer of 2017.

Briefly: There is no way that I can pick up Lego Dimensions. The day that Nintendo’s Amiibo figures released, I decided that I would buy just one, and to this date I’ve purchased every. single. figure. I become addicted to things far too easily, and Lego Dimensions would be no different.

Which is unfortunate, because the game looks absolutely phenomenal, and mixes a ridiculous amount of properties together in an incredible amount of ways.

A new trailer for the game has just hit the web, letting us know that the always fabulous Allison Brie would be reprising the role of Unikitty in the game. It’s a hilarious new look at the game that’s going to sell a lot of Lego this holiday season. In the trailer, Alison gets pulled through the LEGO Gateway and into the digital game as Unikitty, the half unicorn, half anime kitten from Cloud Cuckoo Land, to battle alongside Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle in their quest to stop Lord Vortech and save the LEGO Multiverse.

The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack includes a complete, mission-based The LEGO Movie level, plus The LEGO Movie Adventure World, an additional open-world environment, which can be unlocked with the Wyldstyle minifigure that comes with the game.

For fans of The LEGO Movie that want to customize their LEGO Dimensions experience, there will be a Unikitty Fun Pack with LEGO Unikitty minifigure and Cloud Cuckoo Car, an Emmet Fun Pack with a LEGO Emmet minifigure and Excavator, a Bad Cop Fun Pack with a LEGO Bad Cop minifigure and Police Car, and a Benny Fun Pack with a LEGO Benny minifigure and Spaceship. These highly collectible Fun Packs will provide new buildable characters and vehicles, as well as special in-game abilities. Every vehicle and gadget can be physically built and then rebuilt twice for a total of three different objects that do entirely different things in the digital game for massive variety.

Lego Dimensions hits PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U on September 27th.

Excited about New York Comic-Con? So are we! And so is Warner Bros., apparently. With a full slate of fall shows, Warner Bros. and DC are coming to New York Comic-Con in a big way.

DC’s Legends of TomorrowSupergirl, and Gotham are joining Person of Interest, and Blindspot in a WB blitz at this New York Comic-Con. The usual fare is here, including Q&As, pilot screenings, and stars like Brandon Routh, Amy Acker, Arthur Davill, Ben McKenzie, Robin Lord Taylor, Caity Lotz, Jamie Alexander, and more.

But the curious thing are those who aren’t going to be there. Melissa Benoist, “Supergirl” herself isn’t a part of the announced guests, and neither will anyone from ArrowThe Flash, and iZombie. A little weird.

Warner Bros. takes the Comic-Con stage on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 1:30pm until 5:30pm on Empire Stage 1-E. You know. The big one.

And hey, if you’re coming to New York Comic-Con, let myself and Bigyanks know! We’ll be there too! Hit us up on Twitter (@ericthedragon) (@bigyanks). We’ll take selfies and crap.

We’ve discussed the story mode coming to Lego Dimensions, but the game doesn’t end with the story, which is made obvious by the Adventure Worlds featured in one of the game’s most recent trailers!

Sure, traveling across universes in the main campaign is nice and all, but what if you want to just visit Gotham? Or the Aperture Science labs? The Emerald City? Adventure Worlds make this happen, dedicated stages that focus on one property. Promising 14 full open worlds in game with more expansions releasing separately, (including the already announced Ghostbusters set,) it’s looking like Dimensions will keep us busy for a long, long time.

The best part? Any character can be used with any world, lifting the restrictions placed by other games in the genre. The only time you *need* a character from the property the world is based on is to unlock it in the first place.

What are your thoughts? Is all of this content starting to sound like it’s worth what might be a hefty investment? And what properties do you want to see join the fray? Are there any left? Comment below, and watch the trailer to see the Adventure Worlds in action!

According to internal emails from EB Games Australia, Warner Bros. doesn’t plan on putting the PC edition of Batman: Arkham Knight back on sale until the fall. This also coincides with any perceived hot fixes from Warner.

As previously advised,we have stopped sales of Batman: Arkham Knight PC while Warner and Rocksteady work on addressing performance issues with the game. The latest information from Warner is that the updates won’t be available until Spring. Due to this we have made the difficult decision to recall all PC stock from stores to return to the vendor until an acceptable solution is released.

Spring refers to Australian Spring, so don’t get overly excited that the game isn’t going to be seen again until 2016. According to Kotaku, the timeframe for a re-release is so far out that EB Games has felt the need to return all stock of the PC edition to Warner.

This whole debacle has been very out of character for both Warner and Rocksteady. It really shows that this game was created for the consoles, most likely the PS4, and hastily ported to the PC.

The problems don’t affect every installation of the game, in fact the numbers of affected users are fairly low.

We will be sure to update you as more information is released.

Looks like WB and Travelers Tale are finally ready to make Minecraft defend their position in the gaming world. Just announced with this fabulous trailer is the upcoming LEGO Worlds!

A limitless collection of procedurally generated worlds made entirely of LEGO Bricks, where players build unique environments and define their own experience. Developed by TT Games, LEGO Worlds allows players to use LEGO building sets digitally so they can build and create wherever their skills and imagination roam.

The game enters STEAM Early Access today, with the goal of allowing the gaming community to provide feedback for continual improvements and the integration of additional content over time. Players who want to join the Early Access experience can download the STEAM client at http://store.steampowered.com/ then visit the LEGO Worlds product page at the following link to download the game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/332310.

They’re definitely going after Minecraft with this title. LEGO Worlds is currently in early access and available through STEAM.

What is going to prove whether or not this game is successful as Minecraft is it’s incorporation of mods and private server access. We’ll be sure to get our hands on this game and give you our opinion!

Briefly: This news can’t be surprising for anyone, but The CW has renewed their hit series Arrow for a third season.

While Arrow remains the most watched show on the network, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Reign, and The Originals also received early renewals.

No information on what’s to come has been revealed at this point (duh, we’re still in the middle of season two), but I’m sure we’ll be seeing even more sexy posters before the year is up. What do you hope to see next? Sound out below!

Briefly: Before today, I didn’t know anything about The Tomorrow People beyond the title.

After watching the just released sizzle reel from New York Comic-Con, I’m interested as hell.

The series tells the story of Stephen Jameson, who starts hearing voices and teleporting in his sleep, and believes he is going crazy. In desperation, he listens to one of the voices and is led to a group of genetically advanced teens known as the tomorrow people, who are being hunted down by Ultra, a paramilitary group of scientists headed by Dr. Jedikiah Price. Torn by an offer from Price — having a normal life among people he belongs, but in exchange for helping rid the world of tomorrow people — Stephen chooses the higher road despite its probable surprises.

It sounds pretty cool, and I’m not really sure why I hadn’t looked into it sooner. In any case, I’ll be checking out the pilot tonight! Take a look at the reel below, and let us know what you think!

Already see the pilot? What did you think?

Briefly: Following some sexy character posters released just last week, The CW has debuted a new TV spot for Arrow‘s upcoming season premiere.

Titled “Sharper”, the spot appears to offer some new footage from the season, and does a really good job of reminding me that I still need to finish season one.

You too? Better get on it. Season two of Arrow premieres on October 9th! Take a look at the new spot below, and let us know if you’re excited!

Briefly: During this year’s fantastic San Diego Comic-Con, The CW revealed a cool first trailer for the highly anticipated second season of Arrow. Apparently it reveals some pretty heavy spoilers for the show’s first season, so seeing as I still haven’t caught up, I haven’t actually watched the preview myself.

I’m hearing that great things are in store for the show’s second season, so I better get caught up quickly! Arrow returns on October 9th!

Check out the season two trailer below, and let us know what you thought of the first season!

Don’t feed them after midnight. Gremlins are coming back!

After hearing Stone-Cold Steve Austin on a recent episode of Geekscape claiming that he was working on a new Gremlins I thought….yeah right!

Bloody Disgusting just got the official word that a Gremlins reboot is moving forward at Warner Bros., and that Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is attached to produce the film along with David Katzenberg.

Gremlins has hit that perfect sweet spot where it has been long enough since its release that you either remember it and want to see a new take, or you belong to an entirely new generation that simply hasn’t had the pleasure of experiencing the original film.

Gremlins came out in 1984 and was (and remains) wonderful to watch. I’m sincerely looking forward to this remake, and can’t wait to see more from the project.

In the most recent issue of Empire Magazine, director Zack Snyder and his Producer-wife, Deborah Snyder confirm that a Justice League film is dependent on the box office success of this summer’s Man Of Steel. The director also went on to confirm that if the film does do well at the box office and Warner Bros. decides to move forward with the project, he will definitely be asked by the studio to direct.

Snyder didn’t specify whether he would accept the job or not but did show some enthusiasm towards the prospect of creating A DC Cinematic Universe.

“I have a hard time having perspective. But I have to say that it is everything that I could have hoped for. Touch wood that I am not insane, but it feels really good.”

It’s highly likely that Man Of Steel will perform well and there’s definitely a chance that we may get our first official news regarding the planned project at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Following a short viral campaign for the film, which included a Kryptonian timer counting down to the release, a second full-length trailer has debuted for Zack Snyder’s highly-anticipated Man Of Steel. The trailer delivers an even better look at what is sure to be one of the biggest releases of the summer.

There’s been plenty of rumors and talk about directors when it comes to Warner Bros. upcoming superhero ensemble, Justice League. Just today it was revealed from a fairly reliable source what characters would be seen in the film. Now, we may have the first official hint at who may actually be directing the film. Just a short while ago Variety’s Marc Graser, a very reliable source, tweeted something very interesting.

Could we be getting ready for some official news regarding this project? Not long ago it was rumored that Matthew Vaughn would be directing the next Star Wars. But with the recent news of J.J. Abrams signing on to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, could this end up being the real project that that the director has signed on for? We may be finding out very soon.

Legendary Pictures have set their sights on Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) for the lead role in Gareth Edward’s Godzilla. According to Deadline, the offer is now on his table and it’s up to the actor if he chooses to accept the role or not.

The British actor is currently said to be waiting on the revised script before he makes a final decision whether or not he will take the role.

Not long ago it was rumored that Guillermo del Toro was going to be working on a team-up film featuring a number of the characters from DC Comics darker side. From the description and the team rumored to appear the film sounded like it would be a loose interpretation of the New 52’s Justice League Dark.

Del Toro has now finally confirmed that he is indeed working on the project, which will be called Dark Universe,  and is currently writing an outline for the film. The director also goes on to reveal that he will be working with another writer who is “the perfect guy for the job”. Del Toro wouldn’t reveal just who the writer is but did state they really want to do this and are awaiting the green-light from Warner Bros.

So, what about the characters who will be appearing in the film? Well, Del Toro confirms that if the film gets the green-light we will at least (fingers crossed on Buddy Baker aka Animal Man) see Swamp Thing, John Constantine (still no word if this will be the same character from the previous film), Deadman, Etrigan, The Spectre, Zatanna and Zatara in the film.
