Earlier this year the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was on life support until Patty Jenkins revived hope with her blockbuster hit Wonder Woman. The release date was chosen specifically to build momentum for DCEU’s most pivotal installment to date, Justice League, which combines and introduces an elite army of superheroes synonymous to Marvel’s The Avengers. And with DCEU figurehead Zack Snyder’s unfortunate late-stage departure from the film and, coincidentally, The Avengers writer Joss Whedon’s claiming of the throne, no one knew what to expect from this wildly anticipated release.

Following the death of Superman (Henry Cavill), Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) learn of an other-worldly threat with devious plans of destroying Earth. Together they recruit the help of metahumans The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in order to combat the villain Steppenwolf (voice of Ciaran Hinds). But are they strong enough to resist the forceful army of Steppenwolf? If only Superman was still around to help.

Transitioning the formula to fit the comedic tone of the DCEU’s previous effort Wonder WomanJustice League continues with a dark-aura that’s lightened by timely humor. This is reasonable to expect with long-time Marvel scribe Joss Whedon crafting the screenplay. And although the final effect is nowhere near the level of Wonder Woman, mainly due a surprisingly low amount of energy and a complete level of predictability, Justice League still manages to satisfy a bit more than previous DCEU films like Man of SteelDawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Gal Gadot continues to impress and Ezra Miller also delivers a standout performance, yet Affleck and new faces Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher aren’t nearly as successful. Furthermore, the film pridefully relies on a bombardment of mind-numbing visual effects that are in no way an acceptable substitute for a meaningful story or valuable character development. Justice League serves as another flat and superficial endeavor from the DCEU that won’t hold up over time.

UPDATE: It seems like ComingSoon.net has just confirmed that Reeves will indeed be directing and producing the film. What an emotional roller coaster

Well, that was quick

2 weeks ago we reported that WB and Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves  were in talks to make him the director of the upcoming Ben Affleck solo film The Batman, but it seems as though DC & WB can just never win when it comes to the DCEU. According to people on the inside of the company, Reeves and WB have already stopped talks. These series of events continue to be an ongoing nightmare for both companies as the companies still have no concrete movie releases after 2018’s Aquaman.  The only way for the DCEU to really get back on track right now is Wonder Woman.  If this film can’t overcome another Rotten Tomatoes thrashing then will people be willing to go and see Justice League? What are your thoughts on these events? Who do you think would make a great director for The Batman. Tell us in the comments below!

Late last night WB and DC announced that they have finally found their director for Ben Affleck’s The Batman.

Matt Reeves, Director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes has officially been chosen to helm the caped crusaders next adventure. Now that they’ve chosen a pretty solid director, it’s now up to the writing team to deliver a solid, comprehensible script. Affleck has stated multiple times that he will refuse to do the film unless the script gets all the love and attention it can get (Unlike the past 3 DC movies.) Overall, a safe choice, but the company really isn’t in the position to make any risky moves right now.

What are your thoughts on this new director news? Who would you have chosen to direct the film? Tell us in the comments below!

Briefly: This is certainly some news that I wasn’t expecting to read today: Ben Affleck is no longer directing the standalone Batman film.

Affleck, who co-wrote the films script with Geoff Johns, noted that “There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

You’ll see Affleck’s next turn at Batman on November 17th in Justice League. I have to say, I’m a big fan of Affleck’s directing, and I’d have loved to see how an Affleck-led Batman film would have turned out.

Who would you like to see direct the feature? Be sure to sound out below.

Despite a momentous start to his directing career, one that includes a Best Picture Oscar win for Argo, Ben Affleck’s latest film hasn’t even made it into the awards season discussion. His new endeavor, Live by Night, a gangster flick predominantly set during the Prohibition Era in Florida, represents a bitter free-fall for the previously unscathed filmmaker. Affleck offers nothing new to the genre and any hope that another adaptation from Dennis Lehane – who also penned the source material for Affleck’s phenomenal 2007 debut, Gone Baby Gone – would be a reason for optimism, quickly falls by the wayside during the film’s forgettable first act.

After a hidden romance with an Irish Mob boss’ mistress (Sienna Miller) nearly end his life, Joe Coughlin (Affleck) returns and sells his soul the rival Italian Mob in order to exact revengeon his nemesis. Consequently, Joe ventures to Florida during Prohibition where he monopolizes the Rum industry and falls for Graciela (Zoe Saldana), a woman whose inside connections help build the empire. But as Prohibition becomes repealed, Joe’s mismanagement of his supreme position makes him a vulnerable man in a dangerous industry.

Live by Night suffers immensely by writer, director and star, Ben Affleck’s, arrogance and misguided vision. It’s obvious that Affleck desires to deliver an ambitious gangster film reminiscent of classics such as The Godfather and White Heat. However, a bloated story continually introduces a wide assortment of characters without ever fully developing them. Therefore, once these flimsy characters meet their demise, empathy is never appropriately earned. Affleck’s screenplay is riddled with flaws, but it still doesn’t feel quite as problematic as the director’s unforgivable decision to cast himself in the lead role. Either Affleck’s perception of Joe Coughlin is remarkably off, or he isn’t quite talented enough to pull-off the necessary performance. Whichever way you dissect it, the blame falls squarely on his shoulders. On the other hand, there are a few select moments of captured creativity and originality, yet they’re swallowed-whole by an assortment of mightily flawed approaches. Notable supporting turns are offered by Chris Messina, who play’s Joe’s right hand man, and Zoe Saldana. But by the time the credits finally role – which follow a dull attempt at an emotionally-charged conclusion, Live by Night reveals itself as a sad and rapid decline for a once unblemished filmmaker.

Ben Affleck’s new movie, “The Accountant” is so good, it just may become the next Warner Bros. bankable franchise. Is that a surprise?

Geekdom took up arms when Ben Affleck was cast as Batman, but he proved many of us wrong. Yes, I didn’t think he had it in him and now here comes this film that immediately made me think of a Jason Bourne film. I was skeptical about “The Accountant,” and once again I have to back track and say what a surprise hit this film is.

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has an affinity for numbers and uses that skill to do the accounting for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. When the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starts getting close Christian takes on a legitimate client; a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. Christian’s job is to un-cook the books but as he gets closer to the truth, people start to die.

“The Accountant” plays very much like a comic book movie without the super powers. Lead character Christian Wolff (Affleck) does exhibit some unique abilities when it comes to rationalizing figures, and can kick some serious ass thanks to his military father but its all due to mother nature and not some wonder drug. What makes it all work is the sound writing from Bill Dubuque (The Judge), who does a fine job of creating three dimensional characters as well as flushing out the sub-plots that tell the story from a variety of views. The combination makes “The Accountant” a satisfying and well-rounded action film.

Excellent casting  and solid performances from John Lithgow, Jeffrey Tambor, Jon Bernthal, Anna Kendrick, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and JK Simmons. Each deserves a write up, including Anna Kendrick who didn’t get as much to work with as all the others but still managed to deliver a solid, and believable performance.

Director Gavin O’Connor keeps the film on task with stealthy action scenes paired with witty bits of humor that never leave a lull in the story. Smartly paced fight scenes keep the action rolling with some pretty impressive fight choreography. Again, Ben Affleck proves that he can do action, credibly and this film just amps the excitement for Justice League and a repeat of him as Batman.

The only negative was a slightly sappy ending that goes on for five minutes too long, but by the time you get there you don’t mind.

Briefly: I have huge man crush on Joe akin to that of Pee Wee Herman in his latest adventure.

A week ago Ben Affleck had dropped a teaser bomb and showcased what seemed to be a screen test of ‘Deathstroke’ in his upcoming ‘Batman’ movie. Now it was announced that none other than the Adonis incarnate, Joe Manganiello, has been cast in the role. Known primarily for his delicious eye candy roles in ‘True Blood’ and ‘Magic Mike’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bRcSA6fWZQ

DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns confirmed the casting to the Wall Street Journal in his first interview since his new role overseeing Warner Bros.’ movies based on DC characters.

It’s still not known whether ‘Deathstroke’ will have a cameo in “Justice League,” which is currently shooting in London.

Warner Bros. has just released the official synopsis and logo for the upcoming DC superhero team-up movie. Filming is well underway over in Europe so its a matter of time before information starts to leak from the set.

Here’s the synopsis:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.  Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat.  But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

With no word on who the “greater enemy” is we can only assume that it might just be Steppenwolf or Darkseid.

new batmobile

Along with the official synopsis they also gave us our first look at the new Batmobile. Looks like cross between the Tim Burton and the Christopher Nolan versions.

‘Justice League’ will star Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash with Willem Dafoe in a mystery role and J.K. Simmons playing Commissioner Gordon

The film, directed by Zack Snyder, will be released in theaters on November 17, 2017.

Briefly: Love Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, or hate Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, DC’s expanded film universe is now on its way in full force, and clearly isn’t going anywhere.

It’s been rumoured for some time now, and was also pretty damned obvious, but Warner Bros. confirmed today at CinemaCon that they’re working on a standalone Batman flick with Ben Affleck.

Of course, nothing was revealed about the project, and Warner Bros. head Kevin Tsujihara simply confirmed that “We’re excited to be working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman film.”

Will Affleck be directing this one? Or will he just have the starring role? That remains to be seen, but in any case I definitely dug Affleck’s Bruce Wayne / Batman, and can’t wait to see him get back in that suit (and hopefully learn how he became so jaded).

Briefly: Following last month’s final trailer for the anticipated film, Warner Bros. has just debuted another, extended TV spot for this week’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The spot features (somehow) more new footage, and really drives home the fact that these two want to (but won’t) tear each other apart.

In the film, “fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs.  And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.”

Briefly: Now that Deadpool has come and gone (well, it’s still very much here, based on its continued box office performance), all eyes have now fallen onto the second gigantic super hero flick of 2016, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

We already know that the film, which is now just over a month away, is set to be (definitely) long, (probably) too busy, and (likely) a damned good time, but some fresh news states that the home video release of Dawn of Justice will feature a we-wouldn’t-have-guessed-it ‘R’ rating.

Nope, it’s not going over-the-top ‘R’ (or how-the-hell-is-this-14A-in-Canada) like this month’s Deadpool, noting that the film is ‘Rated R for sequences of violence’.

Whether Snyder and company were deliberately shooting for this rating, or simply riding on the coattails of Deadpool at this point is uncertain, but in any case, color me interested to see just how this version differs from the Dawn of Justice that we’ll be seeing next month.

Are you looking forward to the film? How would you feel about the ‘R’ rated home edition? Sound out below!

Briefly: Yesterday gave us our best look at Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice yet via the film’s final trailer, and today Warner Bros. debuted three slick new promo photos for the anticipated feature.

Two of the images feature… well, Batman v. Superman, while the third image features a somber-looking Bruce standing atop some rubble.

Briefly: Can you believe that it’s nearly here?

Yep, we’re just over one month away from the heavily anticipated release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Warner Bros. has just released an intense final trailer for the upcoming feature.

This is probably the best look at the film we’ve seen thus far, and at this point I simply can’t wait to line-up on March 25th. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: With every new clip, TV spot, poster, and teaser released thus far, I’m getting excited as hell about the March release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

A new, 90-second trailer for the film has just hit the web, and while it’s mostly footage that we’ve already seen, it’s a well edited look at the film that also features a few small surprises.

Briefly: Following the explosive new trailer from earlier this month, Warner Bros. has just debuted four new character posters for next year’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

There’s a new poster for Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, with another one-sheet focusing on the trio. Aquaman and the other four thousand (hyperbole) characters that are set to debut in the film, however, are still nowhere to be seen.

Briefly: It’s been a long time since we’ve seen any new footage come out of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and I’m beyond happy to say that the production’s long silence ended tonight with an awesome new, albeit brief look at the film during tonight’s episode of Gotham.

It’s crazy to think that we see a new teaser, trailer, TV spot, or image for something like Star Wars: The Force Awakens seemingly every single day, and yet Warner Bros., Zack Snyder, and company have done an incredible job keeping so much of Dawn of Justice a secret.

The video was announced in a Tweet promoting Gotham‘s just concluded mid-season finale, and even if you’re not a fan of Fox’s Gordon-focused prequel series, it was certainly worth the watch for the new teaser alone.

Damn this looks cool. Take a look at the new teaser below, and be sure to let us know just how much you’re looking forward to March 25th, when Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice finally hits theatres!

Briefly: Still feeling mixed about Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice? Even after that much better SDCC trailer? Really?

Well, maybe this new batch of stills from the latest issue of Empire Magazine will help.

The stills feature (naturally), both Superman and Batman, as well as Wonder Woman (in Diana mode). Supes definitely looks pissed in one of the shots, and we also get a great shot of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne getting ready to suit-up.

So Batfleck might not be so bad!

During Comic Con, the latest trailer for the upcoming Superman sequel, Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, showed us more of what to expect from the growing DC cinematic universe. What that means is more Superman, more Batman, being able to see Wonder Woman in action, and a very un-bald Lex Luthor.

It’s clear that the U.S. Government felt the same as most Man of Steel viewers when it came to its final battle, placing sole blame on Superman for the near destruction of Metropolis. Perhaps a bigger enemy to have than Washington is the goddamn Batman, who is known for not taking personal loss too well. After one of Wayne Enterprises’ buildings, (and likely hundreds of employees), became collateral damage during the showdown with Zod, Bruce is making it his personal mission to take the Kryptonian threat down.

There are way too many references to go over for one article, but it’s clear from the trailer that the team is working VERY hard to bring this seasoned, grief stricken Batman to life, all while planting the seeds for many of the biggest DC storylines that helped us fall in love with them in the first place. The mythos run deep here! And by the way, let’s just take a minute to acknowledge how badass Wonder Woman looks in this!

What references can you spot after watching the trailer below? Had your opinion changed over Ben Affleck as Batman yet? And what do you think of the direction of the film? Personally, I went from not caring at all, to being on edge over how this will play out. Mission accomplished, right?

Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice will release on March 25, 2016.

Briefly: A few days back we saw a nice, early look at the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer. The trailer detailed the controversy regarding the Man of Steel’s existence, and… well, and unhappy Batman with a bad-ass suit asking Supes if he bleeds.

Today, Honest Trailers took on the teaser, and it was too good not to share.

So, where do you stand on Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice?

Briefly: We’ve all seen (and judged) the first trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice at least half a dozen times by now, and in anticipated of the upcoming BvS IMAX event (you know, the one where the trailer was supposed to premiere), Warner Bros. has officially released the first two posters for the film. Director Zack Snyder still wants you to head to your local IMAX however, noting that attendees will get “a few extra shots plus a little swag.”

They’re pretty damned cool, and definitely look to fit in with the tone established in last week’s trailer.

Take a look at the images below, and be sure to let us know your thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice thus far! Are you looking forward to the March 25th, 2016 release?

The wait is finally over!! After a leaked international trailer made its way online, Zack Snyder has released an official version of the trailer. The best bits of the trailer SDCC Hall H attendees saw last Summer, so it fell a little flat with me. Rumor has it that a different version will be shown on Monday at the IMAX release.

Starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as the title characters, Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released on March 25th, 2016.

One of, if not THE, most hyped upcoming comic movie is Batman VS. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Set to release in 2016, fans have been clamoring for leaks, releases and the almighty trailer. We don’t have a trailer for you, but we do have this nifty new poster!

Batman VS. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016

There aren’t many directors floating around Hollywood who can churn out high quality films at an expedited rate like the great David Fincher. Although this master of dark-natured cinema has only found himself at the big dance twice, nominated for The Social Network and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Fincher has branded himself as one of the premier filmmakers in the industry with gritty works like Se7enFight Club and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. And to be perfectly clear, the director’s latest addition to his overflowing portfolio, the adapted mystery Gone Girl, manages to stack up pretty well against any of his other previous hits.

When Nick Dunne (played by Ben Affleck) returns home on the morning of his 5th wedding anniversary, signs of a struggle and no word from his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), prompt him to alert the authorities. As Nick battles to process this chain of events, all signs of the investigation slowly begin to point to him. With the world turning against him, thanks to an onslaught of media-driven finger-pointing, Nick will stop at nothing to prove his innocence. But one haunting question still remains … did he do it?

gone1

This year’s latest blockbuster release, Gone Girl, is an entertainingly wild affair filled with twists and turns at every corner. Nothing is ever what it seems, and all of the suspense and mystery boils down to an edge of your seat thrill ride that proves to be utterly unpredictable. Ben Affleck gives one of the strongest performances of his career, but still happens to be overshadowed by the onscreen brilliance of his counterpart, Rosamund Pike. Move over all you Hollywood starlets, Pike has officially “arrived” and her jockeyed position in the Best Actress race feels all but assured. I think it’s safe to say we can all expect to see a lot more of Pike in the upcoming years. In addition to a pair of leads who do an exceptional job of carrying the film, director David Fincher manages to get the most out of his secondary characters with noteworthy turns from Carrie Coon, Tyler Perry and Kim Dickens as well. Gone Girl‘s performances and unforeseen story help catapult the film into one of the best pictures of the year.

gone2

Despite the movie’s impressively eerie tone, something Fincher always tends to capture well, a few mitigating factors are apparent. With a sluggish third act that could admittedly go on forever, Gone Girl‘s nearly 150-minute running time doesn’t go unnoticed. However, each and every shocking surprise you encounter makes it worth the ride. Furthermore, it’s impossible to ignore the unrealistic manner in which some of the police and hospital procedures are conducted. Although it’s mostly meant for dramatic effect, ignoring standard protocol lessens the authenticity to some extent. Yet, all of Gone Girl‘s shortcomings eventually fade to the background and allow the audience to be consumed by a whirlwind of intrigue and anticipation.

With a screenplay written by author Gillian Flynn herself, fans of the best-selling novel are guaranteed to appreciate David Fincher’s brilliantly directed adaptation. And for everyone who never read the book, much like myself, you will also be impressed. From top to bottom Gone Girl is a stellar piece of filmmaking that sets the bar high for countless other late-year releases. Make sure you get to the movie theatre and enjoy one of 2014’s finest features.

Briefly: A new TV spot for David Fincher’s upcoming drama, Gone Girl has just hit the internet. It’s gorgeous, gripping, and looks like it’ll make for an absolutely heartwrenching feature. The film is based on the 2012 bestseller by Gillian Flynn. Here’s the synopsis:

On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

Being a Fincher flick, I’m sure we’ll be frequently questioning the innocence/guilt of Nick Dunne (though book readers will already know the outcome, of course). I feel like avoiding the novel until I can see the feature just so everything can remain a surprise!

In any case, take a look at the new spot below, and let us know what you think! Gone Girl hits theatres on October 3rd!

Warning: Some light spoilers ahead.

Kudos to GeekTyrant for the scoop: An extra on the Detroit set of Batman v. Superman has revealed some key information regarding the status quo of the film.

According to the source, the film begins during or just after the battle between Superman and Zod. So the rampant destruction wasn’t just disaster porn, kinda: It actually bleeds into the next film. Furthermore, the ending has been filmed, and although your mileage may vary, I’m going to warn you right now here is where there is potential for SPOILERS:

According to the extra, the ending of the film has already been filmed. One of the scenes shot featured Batman breaking into Lexcorp to steal kryptonite, and apparently Lexcorp had somehow gotten ahold of General Zod’s body.

Knowing about that doesn’t particularly ruin the film for me, but it just might for the uber-sensitive. I’m more fascinated about the beginning of the film.

Entertainment Weekly interviewed Ben Affleck and he opened up about what Warner Bros. told him when he signed on. They basically told him, “They’re gonna hate you, bro.”

Before I took the role, Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, ‘Are you sure you want to get into this? This is part and parcel of these movies now. There’s a lot of active fans with a lot of opinions.’ To me, having been through a certain amount of that, it doesn’t really [get under your skin]… Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I wouldn’t have taken the part if I didn’t trust my instincts in terms of the filmmaking. I think Chris Terrio wrote a terrific script. Zack’s a great visual director. And there’s an interesting take. I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think I could do it. I have the benefit of a lot of that understanding.

Remember Daredevil? Of course you do, every screaming fanboy brought it up when Ben Affleck was announced. But that was over ten years ago, the state of cinema was different and people change. Says Affleck:

“You know what? It’s great that people do care that much. They want to see the movie that much. And it is incumbent on you to honor the story. There are the Greek myths and these are the American myths. The American myths are these superheroes. People care about ‘em a lot. And it’s incumbent on you to do a good job and make it as excellent as you possibly can. At the end of the day, the movie’s all that matters.”

I like to imagine Ben Affleck picturing in his head his buddy Kevin Smith whenever he thinks of comic book fans. “Would this make Kevin angry or happy?” he questions, pondering whatever bat-thing the prop department handed him.

You’ll hear everyone and their mother voice their opinion about this film. It’s already the most polarizing pop culture item and no one but the people making it have seen a second of it. For me, there’s a lot of wrong the film has going for it — starting right from the dumb title — and it has nothing to do with Ben Affleck. I don’t like how Man of Steel is the starting point, a film so flawed that I wonder how they saw it and go, “Yeah, let’s launch a multi-billion dollar franchise from this.” I know that DC wants to be successful doing their own thing and not copy Marvel, and if it works for them then great, we’re all the better for it. But it just feels wrong from the start and appears to stem more from an immature measurement of manhood than it is trying to make a good, unified film series. It’s like they looked at Marvel and went, “We have toys like that too!” then begged to go to the toy store.

Even with my hesitance, I’m still excited for the movie. We’re gonna see Superman and Batman punch the crap out of each other. That’s worth $10.50 alone. But then we’ve got Ben Affleck, who I actually like and am excited for, and it will bring us finally to a proper Justice League film. Even if the film ends up terrible, let’s just have some fun while we’re on the ride.

In any case, take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! Gone Girl hits theatres on October 3rd!

Briefly: I’m pretty sure it’s what we were all expecting at this point (unless you were expecting the yet-untitled Man of Steel sequel to simply be called Justice League), but Warner Bros. has just confirmed that Justice League will follow said Man of Steel sequel, and Zack Snyder will return to direct the project.

Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman announced the plans today, stating that “It will be a further expansion of this universe. ‘Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’”

The script is still in the works, and a release date has not been set at this time. Silverman also didn’t state which DC characters aside from Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will appear in the film (though it’s likely safe to assume that we’ll also see Cyborg, seeing as he’s just been cast).

On a side note, the world has been calling for a standalone Wonder Woman film forever, and Warner Bros. may finally be looking at the opportunity. Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing stated that “With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.”

Briefly: Fincher’s back, baby.

The first trailer for his upcoming drama Gone Girl has just hit the internet, and it’s gorgeous, gripping, and looks to be an absolutely heartwrenching feature.

The film looks very intriguing, and as beautifully shot as always. It was also revealed today that Fincher won’t take the reigns of the Aaron Sorkin written Steve Jobs biopic, which is certainly unfortunate.

In any case, take a look at the Gone Girl trailer below, and let us know what you think. The film hits theatres on October 3rd.

Big news for all of you Superman Vs Batman (aka Man of Steel 2) movie fans out there (well, not Ben Affleck as Batman big, but big). Director Zack Snyder confirmed casting for two pivotal parts in the upcoming Warner Bros. film:  Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s trusted adviser; and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Superman’s iconic nemesis.

In a Warner Bros. press release issued today, Snyder said of Irons: “As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

Irons won an Oscar for his work in Reversal of Fortune and was the infamous Simon Says villain in Die Hard: With A Vengeance.

Irons name has been on the short list of possible Alfreds for some time, so it came as no surprise when his name was announced. Slightly more surprising was the casting of Eisenberg– best known for his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, and the sleeper hit Now You See Me–as Lex Luthor.

The villain is typically portrayed as being older than Superman, usually in their late 30’s, early 40’s. Eisenberg, 30, offers a new direction for Luthor to go.

Regarding Eisenberg’s unexpected casting, Snyder said:

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals…what’s great about Lex is that he exits beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth, and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

Lex Luthor is expected to be a supporting villain in Man of Steel 2, with another (as yet unidentified) villain posing a more physical threat. Rumors are flying about the identity of the this mega-villain but Warner Bros is keeping mum for now.

Irons and Eisenberg join Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Man of Steel cast Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Tentatively billed as Man of Steel 2, the film is set for a May 6, 2016 release. Written by Chris Terrio from a screenplay by David S. Goyer and directed by Zach Snyder.
