My man! After many jokes at its expense, it’s finally here… an Aquaman movie! But is this the film that gets the last laugh on critics and fans? Maybe! What I do know for sure is that this is the DCEU’s weirdest movie of all time! It’s actually a lot to pick through so I bring Ian Kerner in to talk about the film’s ins and outs and what works and what doesn’t. There are tons of SPOILERS so be warned as we answer lots of questions! Does this film setup a sequel? Does it help fixed the problematic DCEU films that came before it? Were the villains too over the top? Is a ‘Flashpoint’ movie the best way to save the DCEU? There’s lots to discuss in this special episode so enjoy!

Earlier this year the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was on life support until Patty Jenkins revived hope with her blockbuster hit Wonder Woman. The release date was chosen specifically to build momentum for DCEU’s most pivotal installment to date, Justice League, which combines and introduces an elite army of superheroes synonymous to Marvel’s The Avengers. And with DCEU figurehead Zack Snyder’s unfortunate late-stage departure from the film and, coincidentally, The Avengers writer Joss Whedon’s claiming of the throne, no one knew what to expect from this wildly anticipated release.

Following the death of Superman (Henry Cavill), Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) learn of an other-worldly threat with devious plans of destroying Earth. Together they recruit the help of metahumans The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in order to combat the villain Steppenwolf (voice of Ciaran Hinds). But are they strong enough to resist the forceful army of Steppenwolf? If only Superman was still around to help.

Transitioning the formula to fit the comedic tone of the DCEU’s previous effort Wonder WomanJustice League continues with a dark-aura that’s lightened by timely humor. This is reasonable to expect with long-time Marvel scribe Joss Whedon crafting the screenplay. And although the final effect is nowhere near the level of Wonder Woman, mainly due a surprisingly low amount of energy and a complete level of predictability, Justice League still manages to satisfy a bit more than previous DCEU films like Man of SteelDawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Gal Gadot continues to impress and Ezra Miller also delivers a standout performance, yet Affleck and new faces Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher aren’t nearly as successful. Furthermore, the film pridefully relies on a bombardment of mind-numbing visual effects that are in no way an acceptable substitute for a meaningful story or valuable character development. Justice League serves as another flat and superficial endeavor from the DCEU that won’t hold up over time.

Warner Brothers presented a standalone special on The CW tonight, showcasing off the upcoming and future film projects coming from DC Films. The special was hosted by the comic book man himself, Kevin Smith, along with DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns. The special mainly served as a way to get people up to speed on who the characters are and what roles they are going to play in the upcoming DC cinematic universe. With Kevin Smith serving up the soft ball sized questions and Geoff Johns explaining everything pretty well, that it served well what it set out to do. Watching Kevin Smith’s enthusiastic responses really sucked me into the hype for the new DC films.

suicidesquadprops-164287

First up, they cover ‘Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’. Nothing really new here, they just show the same clips from the previous trailers with the voice overs from the cast members recanting their first encounters with DC comics. Geoff Johns just goes over the motivation behind the two heroes clashing head to head along with some commentary clips from Zach Snyder. ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ is out out in theaters March 25, 2016.

SuicideSquad

Next up, Suicide Squad. I’m actually more excited for this film than Batman v. Superman. I can already tell that Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as Joker are just going to steal the movie. They premiered the new trailer which got me really hyped with the Bohemian Rhapsody track. Not much was revealed about the plot aside from what we already know from the previous trailer. I don’t care about the naysayers, I think The Joker looks bad-ass and that laugh was pretty good. The Suicide Squad try to save the world on August 5, 2016.

WonderWomanLogo

Wonder Woman is up next, now based on what they show, which is not much, it left me flat. The first thing that I thought about after seeing some of the scenes was them taking the same route as Captain America: The First Avenger. Gal Gadot does look phenomenal as Wonder Woman and Ido hope later on we see more of the plot in order to get me hyped for the film. Take a look at the first footage from the ‘Wonder Woman’ film here. ‘Wonder Woman’ is set to be released in Summer 2017.
JusticeLeague

Kevin Smith then segued into who else would be in the Justice league Movies. During this part we some quick flashes of what seems to be some concept art for the other characters in the film. At this point Geoff Johns gives a quick rundown of the back stories for the other characters that include Aquaman (Jason Mamoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) , Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and the announcement of the night being that Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corps will be joining the Justice League.

One of the interesting things happened during the explanation of The Flash, Geoff Johns gives kudos to the TV version of the flash and explains this flash will be different as its the cinematic version of the character with a slightly  different origin. The bring up how Barry can easily time travel and access different planes of reality. ‘Justice League’ is slated to be released on November 2017.

I’m excited to see DC finally step it up and go head to head with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Only time will tell if its too late or not enough to compete. Are you guys excited let us know in the comments section.

We we’re all patiently awaiting the release of the theatrical trailer for Batman V Superman to hit the airwaves during Jimmy Kimmel tonight. WELL the film’s official Facebook went and released it ahead of schedule. SO HERE IT IS!

We’re finally getting an idea of what we can expect as far as “plot”. After the synopsis leak from last month, we learned that Lex Luthor may be pitting the two heroes against each other. Now we have it!

The best part of this whole trailer? We’re getting to see Gal Gadot in action as Wonder Woman. I’m honestly more excited to see her performance over the titular characters duking it out.

Batman V Superman hit’s theaters March 25, 2016!

Just moments ago, the newest trailer for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was released EARLY to the public. In keeping with the supposed theme of Man of Steel and our most recent Thanksgiving holiday, let us take a moment to consider what we can be both thankful and hopeful for.

First, to get the obvious out of the way, we’re fortunate enough to live in a time when our cinematic wizardry can produce exactly what Superman can do in stunning realism; flight, strength, heat vision, the whole works. Even when compared to the Bryan Singer version not to mention the Richard Donner version, today we really do “believe a man can fly.”

Looking at this trailer, the Nolan-esque cinematography, fight choreography between man and Kryptonian, and the whole spectrum of Superman powers all look pretty spectacular. Furthermore, there is a slight glimmer of playfulness, of levity from Cavill which is exceptionally welcomed change of tone.

Second, Ben Affleck’s Batman has the potential to be the best Dark Knight yet. Confidence is high that at this point even the most incompetent of producers helming BvS are smart enough to take note from Batman and Robin, and say, “It appears that the fans don’t want that,” and then look to the Nolan films and agree, “Fans want more of this.” By the looks of the trailer, they are certainly doubling down on a dark, gritty, karate chop your larynx out Batman. We’re also going to take the, “But Affleck was in Daredevil and that sucked,” argument and bury that dead horse right here.

Suffice to say, with his multiple Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and BAFTA Awards jammed into his utility belt, there is no question that the man knows how to work given the right material. Drawing special attention towards his awards for Best Supporting Actor (Shakespeare in Love, and Hollywoodland) one of Mr. Affleck’s strengths is tying an ensemble cast together. Which leads us to our next Pro…

Wonder Woman is finally on screen to complete the hallowed DC Trinity. In this new trailer, she looks insanely awesome; deflecting a blast from our first look at Zod/Doomsday like it was nothing, Gal Godot  is certainly looking the part. That three figure shot was just hands down killer.

Also, Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor Jr. is shaping up be what can only be described as a crazed or evil Willy Wonka; there’s a manic energy to him that’s almost unnerving. His shifting tone from playful drunk at a party with Bruce and Clark, to belittling prick towards Lois Lane might just work as a billionaire mad scientist.

Speaking of which, as predicted by some, we have our Doomsday courtesy of Lex Luthor playing god. This move may be in character for Lex Luthor, and the look of Doomsday doesn’t look half bad, but there’s still something that just doesn’t sit right.

Now for the hard part; weighing the good against the potential set up for disappointment. It would be ridiculous to set aside all our prejudice and simply accept this trailer for what it is; a tease at a Superman story we haven’t seen before and don’t have a full understanding of yet. Unfortunately, that creeping and uneasy sensation that Superman fans are experiencing right now is difficult to ignore, and here’s why…

This doesn’t feel like Superman. Sure, Man of Steel argues that as a new superhero, Superman needed to learn the lesson not to kill. As stupid as that argument may be, the creators of this franchise are sticking with a Superman who was raised without the sage wisdom and moral guidance of Pa Kent.

One’s gotta ask themselves, is this really the Superman we wanted, or asked for? There’s an infamous video of Kevin Smith and his experience with Producers and their understanding of Superman as “savage killer.” But that was supposed to be a joke, right? Or is a neck snapping, city destroying, psychopath the version of Superman Zack Snyder and his super friends think we deserve? Either way, the bitter after taste left in some fans mouths is still sticking around and it’s uncertain if a rinsing of Bat-Listerine will wash that out of fans collective psyches.

Certainly, the spectacle of the film looks impressive. But, when we get a trailer that still highlights a scowling, (prisoner taking?), and face melting Superman as part of it’s sizzle reel, how excited can we get for a Superman that still doesn’t feel like Superman?

I’ve read, played, and watched my Superman: Red Son, and Injustice: God’s Among Us, and Superman: The Animated Series episode “Legacy part I and II;” there is definitely an aspect of fun and curiosity in seeing Superman as a villain. However, I’d argue that fun comes from a place of understanding who the real Superman is; an incorruptible, all powerful force for good.

I’d like to have hope that maybe this film will turn the image of Man of Steel towards the character we’ve known and grew up with, and maybe that hope will pay off. We’ve certainly waited long enough for an adaptation of the three most iconic superheroes to be done some justice.

In the meantime, I’m going to re-watch Max Landis’ pitch for a real Superman film; maybe not the sequel we deserve, but the Superman movie we need.

About a month ago a picture made its round on the internet of a poster that popped up at the offices of Cartoon Network for a new animated Justice League. Now the new animated Justice League series was confirmed by Cartoon Network Canada. The new series which is rumored to be titled Justice League Action. Cartoon Network Canada responded to a fan question on their Facebook page stating “We will be premiering a new Justice League series, but not likely until next Fall.”

justice-league-action

The last time a Justice League animated series aired was back in 2006 with Justice League Unlimited, which is set to be release on Blu-Ray soon. Going to add this to my must-watch viewing after with my daughter. We previously had went though the Teen Titans/Young Justice series and felt the void left by its cancellation and replacement with the more “kid friendly” Teen Titans Go.

With Batman Vs. Superman coming out March 25, 2016, it would make sense for an animated series to premier and get the kids excited to buy more toys.  Hopefully this is new show will up tot he same standards of its predecessors.

It’s time to come to terms with this past weekend’s ‘Fantastic Four’ film. Yes, it was exactly as the internet said it was, a tortured, uninspired presentation of Marvel’s First Family. But is there light at the end of the tunnel? YES. We try and guide you back to a world of hope and positivity (two things that are VERY Fantastic Four) as we talk through the missteps and where things might go from here. Also, how is ‘Batman V Superman’ faring and is Ben Affleck going to take over the cinematic Batman reigns for Warner Bros? We can only hope! And ‘hope’ is the word of the day here on Geekscape as we try and turn things around!

Steve Trover wonder woman

Chris Pine has signed on to play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot in ‘Wonder Woman’. Pine joins the DC Movie Universe in a multi-picture deal that includes sequel options. In the comics Steve Trevor serves is a primary love interest for Wonder Woman, but its being reported that he would have a much bigger role than just that in the movies.

‘Wonder Woman’ will be a part of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” as shown in that awesome Comic Con trailer due out March 25, 2016.

The ‘Wonder Woman’ solo movie hits theaters on June 23, 2017.

Briefly: A few days back we saw a nice, early look at the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer. The trailer detailed the controversy regarding the Man of Steel’s existence, and… well, and unhappy Batman with a bad-ass suit asking Supes if he bleeds.

Today, Honest Trailers took on the teaser, and it was too good not to share.

So, where do you stand on Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice?

Briefly: We’ve all seen (and judged) the first trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice at least half a dozen times by now, and in anticipated of the upcoming BvS IMAX event (you know, the one where the trailer was supposed to premiere), Warner Bros. has officially released the first two posters for the film. Director Zack Snyder still wants you to head to your local IMAX however, noting that attendees will get “a few extra shots plus a little swag.”

They’re pretty damned cool, and definitely look to fit in with the tone established in last week’s trailer.

Take a look at the images below, and be sure to let us know your thoughts on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice thus far! Are you looking forward to the March 25th, 2016 release?

Superman

Batman

The wait is finally over!! After a leaked international trailer made its way online, Zack Snyder has released an official version of the trailer. The best bits of the trailer SDCC Hall H attendees saw last Summer, so it fell a little flat with me. Rumor has it that a different version will be shown on Monday at the IMAX release.

Starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as the title characters, Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released on March 25th, 2016.

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, the first trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is nearly here.

Zack Snyder has debuted a few seconds of (slightly boring) costume footage for the trailer reveal that’s set for next week. It’s unknown at this point whether or not the trailer will hit the web next week, but those eager to see Batman and Superman in action can currently RSVP for an IMAX event next Monday.

Unfortunately, the IMAX event doesn’t appear to be happening in my country, so I’ll have to wait for a description and hopefully the trailer hits the internet (and the great white north) shortly after the event.

In any case, you can take a look at the teaser footage below, and be sure to let us know if you’ll be going to the event. Don’t forget to RSVP, which you can do right here

Thom Parham is a scholar AND a gentleman… and I’m not just saying that. He got a job at Paramount after grad school because he wrote his doctoral thesis on the languages in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’. Now a professor himself, he comes on Geekscape to talk about Daredevil, Batman V Superman, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Flash, Arrow and the latest news in the geek world. He really knows his stuff and he helps Will, Kenny and I collectively scream for an end to geeks cannibalizing each other! We’re in a Golden Age! Enjoy it!

Briefly: Zack Snyder just revealed what Aquaman will look like in (probably) Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, or definitely in the 2018 Aquaman standalone film.

He looks freaking cool (at least in my opinion), and is complete with radical tattoos and a bad-ass trident.

The divisive director took to twitter to reveal the image, stating that “There is only one true King,” and using the hashtag #UniteTheSeven. Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think. We’ll be sure to share more Aquaman news as soon as it drops!

And here’s a larger version:

So, how do you think the costume looks? Sound out below!

One of, if not THE, most hyped upcoming comic movie is Batman VS. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Set to release in 2016, fans have been clamoring for leaks, releases and the almighty trailer. We don’t have a trailer for you, but we do have this nifty new poster!

Batman VS. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016

Briefly: It was very unlikely that both Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Marvel’s third Captain America film would retain the same May 6th, 2016 release date, and it looks as though Warner Bros. has been the distributor to fold. They’ve (thankfully) moved Batman v. Superman forward to March 25th, 2016.

This is a great move for the film, which is now far, far, away from Captain America, and is really surrounded by nothing of note. The film is going to make a killing (as if it wouldn’t have before).

Warner Bros. also announced release dates for twelve as-yet-unnanounced films, and a whopping nine of them are DC Universe titles. Here’s the date breakdown via Box Office Mojo:

-Untitled DC Film – August 5, 2016
-Untitled DC Film – June 23, 2017
-Untitled DC Film – November 17, 2017
-Untitled DC Film – March 23, 2018
-Untitled Animated Film – Memorial Day 2018
-Untitled DC Film – July 27, 2018
-Untitled WB Event Film – November 16, 2018
-Untitled DC Film – April 5, 2019
-Untitled Animated Film – Memorial Day 2019
-Untitled DC Film – June 14, 2019
-Untitled DC Film – April 3, 2020
-Untitled DC Film – June 19, 2020
-Untitled WB Event Film – November 20, 2020

We’ll be sure to keep you up to date as all of these films get tiles, but in the meantime, be sure to let us know which characters you’d like to see get standalone films! Plus, how excited are you to see Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice over a month earlier!?
