History Channel has always been known for their documentaries and reportive shows. From guns, tanks, planes and WW2 all the way to mysteries throughout time, including those of an alien nature. In the last few years they have branched out into scripted dramas based on real life historical events, most notable being their juggernaut hit Vikings.

This year at SDCC History announced they were starting a new drama based off the real life reports from Project Blue Book. Starting in the 50’s, Project Blue Book was the project given to the US Airforce to collect, study and investigate UFO sightings from around the country. Hundreds of reports were taken in and investigate, with a purported 700 unsolved. The show Project Blue Book promises to bring the real life reports to life with a certain amount of flair.

The entire concept of this show as me absolutely stoked. Growing up I was ADDICTED to shows like X-Files, Outerlimits and Sightings. When I got an opportunity to meet with History and check out their Project Blue Book experience outside of Comic Con I was stoked.

Hot off the heels of Sacred LiesI jaunted over to the Project Blue Book activation. Set up was a small “command center”. Some tents and a few shipping containers made up the compound. I met with my contact and was soon hurried into line.

Walking into the tent, I was instructed to have a seat. A small table with a few canvas folding chairs were on each side of the tent. A woman in an US Airforce uniform asked me if I had a UFO sighting in my life. I quickly scanned my memory and recalled an incident where I was sitting around a fire with friends, and we all saw something shoot across the moon. Was it Alien? Who knows, but it was DEFINITELY an Unknown Flying Object. I was handed a clipboard with a stack of papers on it. Looking through the sheet, I surmised that this was a UFO reporting intake sheet, and assumed it was similar to the one people would fill out back in the 50’s. The form was thorough, asking where it was on the horizon, what time of day, part of the planet I was on, weather etc. etc. After a few minutes I had the form filled out to the best of my memory, it was a few years ago after all. I turned it in and then was told to wait for The General to take us into the center.

A man in full Air Force general regalia let us know what we were about to learn. Explained what Project Blue Book was, and we were led into a security screening room. “Security screening” must be Air Force secret code for PERFECTLY AIR CONDITIONED. I could stay in there all day, the sweltering San Diego heat was instantly another world away. It definitely added to the whole alien motif. Once we passed our security clearance we were led into the control room.

We were led into another room. An eerie blue glow surrounded us. Pictures were near impossible in this space. Another officer led us in and instructed us to stand in the center of the room. We were about to learn about three incidents from Project Blue Book. A UV light turned on, and the wall behind me lit up in UV paint. An artist rendition of an UFO sighting known as “The Lubbock Incident” glowed brightly. Hidden speakers turned on and we heard a man explaining what he saw. My third irrational fear, Carnival Haunted Houses, popped into the front of my mind. After that, the light turned off and a second turned on, lighting up another wall. Another report illustration and audio file played. A ghastly monster, with large claws and a giant head was depicted in a wooded area. Large lit up craft in the background. Seeing this drawing, and hearing the audio from the report reminded me of my second irrational fear. Aliens. Two of my irrational fears were being triggered hardcore, why was I doing this to myself? Soon the lights went off and the third and final report was depicted. A drawing of a P-51 mustang fighter and a UFO lit up. I recognized this incident, as one of the first reported UFO sightings to the real life Project Blue Book. The 1948 Mantell UFO incident. The third and final drawing dimmed out and our guide let us know that there were still hundreds to be explored, and invited us to check out the command center.

We were led into the heart of the exhibit. A wall of control panels straight out of a 1950’s sci fi film lined the wall, while two actors sat at desks on the opposite wall working on Blue Book reports. We were told we could sit at a station and send out a text messages into space. I sat down at station 5, and sent out a solemn request for help. Earth is in trouble, and needs help from The Gods. We need The Gods to save us from ourselves. Once sent, a number started to quickly count up. My message was being tossed into space. Hopefully someone out there receives the message and saves us from ourselves.

Once done, I went to leave the room. Just before I left, a man in a black suit came up to and stopped me. He let me know that there were still over 700 reports that have gone investigated, and that Project Blue Book was still running at full steam, and to keep an eye out for The Soviets.

Much like the Sacred Lies experience, the Project Blue Book installation from History got me absolutely pumped for the show. It appears to be the perfect combination of real life and drama, and if shows like Vikings are any indication, we are in for a great ride.

Project Blue Book stars Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”) and Michael Malarkey (“The Vampire Diaries”) and will be out sometime this winter. You ABSOLUTELY need to check it out.

San Diego Comic Con has always been an exclusive events. Badges selling out in minutes, lines lasting hours and the waiting list for booth real estate is upwards of ten years! That doesn’t mean you NEED a badge to have fun in San Diego. The Gaslamp District has tons of crazy stuff going on that doesn’t require convention access!

One of those things events is The Experience located in the Lexus lot at PetCo Park. I was able to check out a few of the offerings this year.

Sacred Lies is an upcoming show on Facebook Watch. It is based on the Brothers Grimm tale The Handless Maiden and the novel Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly. The show is about a handless teen who finds herself in juvenile detention, under the suspicion of know who killed her cult leader.

The Sacred Lies Reverse Escape Room was something I was stoked for the moment I saw the press release. Escape rooms are something that I absolutely adore (Juan Carlos and myself tackled the Black Ops III Escape Room back in 2015).

Getting to the parking lot I was already sweating. Though this year isn’t the hottest SDCC on record, its still a doozy for this thiccc Alaskan Boi. I checked in with the security at the gate and wandered over to the Sacred Lies area. The setup was intriguing. A small ramp led up to a large trailer, about 20 X 10. Fake trees and grass adorned the outside, and all of the staff were wearing flower crowns. I went up to someone to ask where the check in was, and apologized for being late. He said “OH don’t worry, you’re here now. And Charlie is excited to have you. You’re finally home.”. I wasn’t aware of the cult aspect of the show just yet, so when I heard this response I immediately knew I was in for something fun. All of the folks working were dress the same, and talking with a light and airy cadence. Think, well, cult like.

I joined my group going into the escape room. We were told to leave our possessions outside, and leave our past behind us. We walked into the first part of the experience.

We were in a smaller room. It was decorated to look like a campground. A facade of a pull along trailer was on the right hand wall, the back of a pickup on the back and on the left a sign for the campground. I forget the name of the camp, because I was immediately drawn to the highlightd letters on the sign. I was in Inspector Clouseau, ready to solve the case! The actor in the room told us that we were getting ready to go to our new home in the woods, but we had to shed our past experiences. We explained that we were children of “Charlie”, or God, but the prophet who we were to follow told us he likes being called “Charlie”. I was so absolutely hooked! We were to find four objects of our past, and leave them in the back of the pickup. There were shapes painted in red on the bed of the truck, so we knew what we were looking for, basically. Our guide handed us a hint sheet and we began.

Noticing the highlighted letters on the sign, looked for the hint that relating to those. The hint was something along the lines of “Follow the signs to salvation and embrace nature”. The few highlighted letters on the wooden campground sign, when rearranged spelled the word PLANT. I looked down and saw a few bushes buried in dirt and wood chips. After spending a minute or two digging through dirt, I realized this wasn’t going to get me anywhere. I got up and noticed two of my team had found the first item, a few tambourines. I went over to the camper facade and found a lockbox with an alpha numeric padlock on it. Twisting the sliders around, I spelled out the word PLANT. KA-CHUNK, the lock opened. Inside was a small jewelry box, that matched exactly a shape on the pickup bed. We were only one object away from finishing. We saw a small key stuck behind the window of the camper, with only a small opening at the top. I said we probably had to find a hook or a fishing pole to get the key out. Hidden in the corner were some PVC pipes with magnets attached to them via a string. We quickly snagged the key and unlocked a box on the floor. The last item, which escapes me at the moment, was freed and placed on the truck!

At this point I thought we were done, but the wall opened up behind us. Our guide, still talking in his lilting cult voice, said we were now on our way to the woods! Our final home. The next room had five trees, each with a picture of a cult member on them; actors from the show. Luggage, trunks and cases were thrown about the “forest” floor. We were told that we had to “get to know” our fellow family members. We started opening things. Inside the trunk in the corner, under the lid, were the same pictures as on the trees. Inside the trunk were a bunch of items, with evidence tags attached. Then we started to notice that almost everything had an evidence tag attached to it. Someone found a UV flashlight. I picked up an axe, and noticed a smudge on the tag. I shouted for the light, and sure enough there was a bright dot painted in UV light on the tag. I told my partner with the light to shine it on the pictures nailed to the trees. All of them had a different number of UV dots. The next part was easy, just match the evidence tags with the faces on the trees, and put the tags on the hooks in the trunk.

Our mission was finished, and we were told that we were ready for Charlie’s blessing. We grabbed flower crowns, and held hands around a fountain. We were instructed to follow along. CHARLIE PROTECT US! CHARLIE PROTECT US! CHARLIES PROTECT US! All the lights went out, and then red lights turned on. Our guide said that one of us was lying, and that we were keeping parts of our past behind. A large TV turned on behind our guide, and we saw a clip from the show. One of the faces from the photos on the trees, who I now assumed to be the cult leader, was standing at a fire. Shouting about absolving someone of their sins. He threw a large green book into the fire and the flames changed a bright green. A few men were bringing out a teenage girl to the fire. The cult leader explained that they were doing these things for her own good, and that Charlie was going to forgive her. He turned to another man and said “Here are your Cinderella slippers”. The second man had a pair of metal shoes that he placed in the fire. Once they were red hot, the men holding the teenage girl placed her feet in them. This scene made me feel extremely uncomfortable, but instantly engrossed in the show. I am super stoked to get into Sacred Lies when it comes out.

The TV turned off, and our guide said that we were to perform a cleansing ritual to save ourselves, and opened a cabinet with full of tools. This is where I have to applaud the actor. He played his part amazingly well. He opened the cabinet and just stared. No guidance. No hints. It was super creepy and definitely added to the whole experience.

The fountain we were chanting around had a mantle with four coins in it, with the space for a fifth one. Which was missing. In the cabinet there were a few mason jars full of water. I looked down at the fountain and saw that the drain was just the same size as the coins. “Pour the water down the drain and a coin will float to the top.”. Sure enough, when one of the group dumped the jar, the missing coin popped up. One of the group asked if I had done this before and I just said “Naw, played a lot of adventure games as a kid!”.

We were done! We were out and apart of the family. The actors greeted us and told us we were welcome.

Sacred Lies at the experience at SDCC was absolutely incredible. It was advertised as a reverse escape room, and once it was all over I finally figured out what they meant .We were not escaping FROM the cult, but joining them.

Sacred Lies premieres, Friday, July 27 on Facebook Watch. New episodes will be available every Friday at 9pm ET/6pm PT on the Sacred Lies show page www.facebook.com/sacredliesshow

I never would have thought in a million years I would EVER write a title like that. It’s really something that boggles the mind. You really can’t create a mental image. Luckily for you, we’ve collected the three insane PSA’s from the LA Metro’s official YouTube channel. The three shorts were all directed by talented Mike Diva. Yes, THAT. Mike. Diva.

Check them all out below!

Day 1 of PAX West 2017 is over and done with and we’ve got a lot to share with you!

We got the opportunity to sit with with Castlevania developer Koji Igarashi to talk about his upcoming Kickstarter sensation Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night.

First off welcome! Thank you for sitting down with us to talk about Bloodstained. How are you enjoying your trip to Seattle?

It’s very cold here! Tokyo is a lot warmer this time of year so I’m not used to it.

What was the biggest push for you to go to crowdfunding for Bloodstained?

In Japan, the video game industry is starting to move towards mobile games. Social gaming, instead of actually working on console games. The Japanese video game industry is slowly shifting. I wanted to create a new game in this genre, that I knew fans wanted to play. I knew developers wouldn’t want to make this kind of game because of how the market is shifting. The initial goal was to make a game for consoles, for gamers that is in the style of games that I have been making.

That’s very enlightening to hear the market is making such a shift right now. There was a lot of rumors and speculation that your decision to go to crowdfunding was due to working with certain developers.

Looking at the market in Japan where video games aren’t selling as much as the mobile social games, when you compare how much is being sold on the mobile side. It’s easy to understand why so many video game companies are making the change, the amount of resources that goes into a console game VS mobile games its obvious that the market is going in that direction. That’s just not something I want to work on.

The graphics for Bloodstained have improved drastically over the last few months. What is your process working with the game engine to bring your vision for the world you’re creating, to your fans. How do you think the die hard Castlevania fans are going to react?

In regards to the visual aesthetics of Bloodstained, we decided to go with Unreal Engine 4. When we started the project we didn’t know that much about the engine itself. It was very new to us, and there was a lot of trial and error. We really wanted to try out the new features that Unreal 4 could do. Which was the procedural generation. We wouldn’t have to constantly reuse assets or materials. That makes it easier, for say something like a cracked wall. You can make so many different variations of one thing. We didn’t want to reuse the same texture or reusing the same kind of effect on it. There was a lot of trial and error, but we’ve been improving a lot. We’re finding we can do much more with the engine, how to manipulate things like the lighting and make the game more appealing.

Another thing is that, how we want players to feel when they play it. The visual aesthetic might be lower than what you expect from a AAA title, but that wasn’t our main focus. Gameplay, and how it makes gamer’s feel is what we wanted to focus on.

Are you taking any specific steps in preserving the legacy you’ve built with Castlevania? Is there anything you really want to pay homage to?

We’re really focusing on the controls for the game. It needs to feel like other games I’ve worked on. How it feels, how responsive they are, is what we’re preserving. Being able to control the character on screen, exactly how you want to is very important. It doesn’t matter how good the level design is, or how the game looks. If the controls aren’t how we want them to be, then the game won’t be as acclaimed.

What was the inspiration for the main character, Miriam?

There were so many thoughts going on when I was creating Miriam. Previously, I created half vampire half human. A vampire that KNOWS what it’s like to be human. We found that it’s easier for players to relate to a human character, so we wanted to go back to that. She’s cursed, so she has this weight on her that is obvious to players.

Miriam’s ability to absorb runes is very similar to what players were able to do in Castlevania: Order of Eclesia. Are there any other mechanics or abilities that you’re drawing inspiration from?

There’s a lot of features we’re drawing inspiration from. This time the theme of the game is alchemy, so we want players to be able to transmute items, weapons or abilities. Anything that was incorporated in past titles, that players really enjoyed and liked we wanted to bring back. This is also a Kickstarter project, so our backers are able to give us feedback and their opinions. We are able to listen to what they feel is enjoyable to play. We want to make sure the players are very comfortable playing the game.

What can you tell us about the soundtrack? How are things coming along?

Our game director is VERY picky about the music, so we’ve been giving a lot of feedback to the studio we are working with, Noisy Croak. They’re creating a lot of the soundtrack. We’re working with Michiru Yamane again, who we’ve worked with a lot in past titles. She isn’t creating all the soundtracks, but her music and her creation is the main theme. She is working with Noisy Croak, and they are pulling inspiration from her style and are creating songs that sound like something she would make.

It was a great honor getting to sit down with Igarashi and talk about Bloodstained. I am extremely excited to see what him and his team have crafted. You can check out Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night when it releases March of 2018.

This week on Monday Music we go back to the 80’s with Mr. Mister’s lilting ballad Broken Wings.

When I first came up with the idea of Monday Music, I wanted it to be an outlet for new songs I’ve discovered or old songs I’ve rediscovered. Sharing a tune that our readers might not have thought about in a while, or something they will love.

Let me weave you a tale about how Broken Wings entered my universe a few months ago, and how a sign from the universal dream we all occupy, returned.

It was many months ago. Snow still fell in Alaska, and the Birchwood Airpark was covered in a foot of soft fluffy powder. The hangar apartment I called my domicile was frigid. The cold steel walls towered over me, while the biting concrete floor sat below me, a constant reminder of how quickly life can fade. The thick, frozen air hung heavily in my lungs. Each breath carved a little glimmer of heat from my core. I sat there, fully dressed in winter attire, at my computer. The only thing keeping me warm was the light from my computer monitor. That and the space heater below my desk, but let’s forget about that, it’s less artistic.

The time of day (or night) is lost. The sun only visits me for a short few hours a day. Like a petulant drug dealer handing out samples, giving only small morsels of light and warmth, just enough to keep life going, but never thriving. Was it day? Or night? Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter. I spent my time sitting at my computer, playing video games. A short escape into a fantastical worlds. A brief escape. This time I was playing Overwatch. I was enjoying solo queue. Rounds won, and rounds lost even each other out. No progress being made in either direction. New friends came and went, each round had different entities. Everyone had their own world. Their own dream. Each digital character, directly attached to a physical, corporeal being. Dozens, if not hundreds came in and out of my dream. Some were great allies, while others were fucking salty scrubs. All memorable, but none as memorable as one ally. One singular creature came into my world, and he will forever be ingrained into my memories. That was a man, who went by the name: Brokenwings.

It was a round like any other. New friends thrown into a server. This particular group was full of vocal and jovial players – voice chat was running strong. Planning and tactics were the topic of conversation, as the timer ticked closer to zero. Zero. A poignant number. Normally reserved to represent the LACK of something. An emptiness. A void. The same emptiness we all have inside ourselves. The same void we frantically try to fill. In Overwatch, zero is a fickle mistress. Typically it carries the same real world representation. Empty. Health reserves: empty. Ammunition: empty. Progress: empty. But for one brief moment, at the beginning of the round, zero means something else. It means we are beginning! We are born again into the round. A whole new world of possibilities were thrust into our arms, and we got to choose which ones we consumed. My teammates and I were ready to go. We were ready to fight. We weren’t going to die for our country, but we were going to make the other team die for theirs. Me and my four teammates… and one Brokenwings.

First round was over, the score is lost to me in this moment, but at the half, I finally took inventory of the identities of my crew. Four other names lost to the cold void, but one I will forever remember. Brokenwings. Brokenwings. Brokenwings. He was a beacon of hope in the dark. Upon noticing this, I quickly took control of the voice chat. I shouted into the server “BROKENWINGS! LIKE THAT MR. MISTER SONG!”. The four others laughing, Brokenwings mic button remained unpressed. I could sense his laughter though. His utter silence was enough to tell me he understood. We were now best friends. Our souls connected. Our dreams entwined. Then: ZERO.

The round started. We all began to rush the point. Now the team was no longer strangers in a strange land, but brothers. Brothers in arms. Brokenwings at my side. We ran onto the point, and in normal fashion I was the first to fall in battle. As the respawn timer counted down to ZERO, I quickly pulled out my phone. 6: I scoured the desk for my phone. 5: I grabbed the device and unlocked the screen. 4: I closed the copy of the Desiderata I was reading. 3: Opened YouTube. 2:Typed in Brokenwings. 1: Pressed play on the song. When my character came back to life, the hissing cymbal of the tune came on across my speakers. As soon as I was given control of my character, I knew what must be done. I ran into battle… with my mic button pressed. The elegant melodies of Mr. Mister rang out into the server.

By the time I made it to the point, Richard Page’s angelic voice belted out the titular lyrics. TAKE! THESE BROKENWINGS! AND LEARN TO FLY AGAIN!

The server voice chat was a castrophony. Anger. Sorrow. Happiness. Laughter. All fed into a whirlwind of Mr. Mister. My teammates began singing along with me. A group of 5 men all belting out the same lyrics. All except the man himself. Brokenwings. I could tell by his silence that he was flattered, and honored that we all could be singing a tune in his honor. He was the man of the hour, but was humble. Said nothing. My bard like abilities filled everyone with vigor. We pushed harder and harder. Harder and harder. Faster and faster. Throwing ourselves at the point. A constant action over and over and over again. Live. Die. Repeat. We teetered on the definition of insanity. Constantly trying to do the same thing over and over again, hoping for different results. This time though, things WERE different. Mr. Mister was on a loop. We all singing the song for a third and fourth time. Laughter peppered throughout each chorus and verse. This magical concoction we created could only spell one outcome. And when the timer finally ran out, hit ZERO we knew what we had created. VICTORY!

The post game results came in. We had won! The final screen appeared and we all saw the actual man of the hour. Brokenwings was up for vote, as he was the game’s best healer. Of course the man who went under the title of Brokenwings would play as Mercy. The winged healer – so fitting, because his name itself caused us to win. Without his name, and his connection to 80’s pop rock group Mr. Mister, we would never have won. We all said our goodbyes, as we all exited the round and returned to the start menu. Laughter and happiness still flowed out of my mouth. For a brief moment, lost in the frozen desolate darkness, I found happiness. We found happiness. I stood up and took inventory of myself. I looked around and noticed that the room I once occupied was no longer frigid and dark, but was feeling full. Full of warmth and light. I noticed the Sun had started to shine into the windows of my hangar. I smiled as the warm rays enveloped my face. I felt loved. I felt whole. I felt content. Was it the silent powers of a random stranger on Overwatch that brought out the Sun? Or just the normal rotation of the earth? We will never be able to tell. And, what came over us in that game? Was it really just the machinations of a lonely Alaskan gamer trying to get attention by playing an 80’s ballad for a room a strangers? Or was it possible carbon monoxide poisoning from a potentially faulty Modine heater? No one will ever know. What we will know, is that for a brief moment. Six random heroes came together as brothers. As family. As ohana. All because of a single man, and the name he chose for his Blizzard account. We all salute you, Brokenwings.

Last week, we lost another one of our great musical heroes. Chris Cornell passed away on May 18th, and the music world mourned.

This week on Monday Music, we are sharing Seasons. A song about hoping the world will slow down. A song about cherishing the moments you have. A song that cannot be any more poignant.

Geekscapists might recognize the song from the 2013 Man of Steel. Cornell rerecorded the tune for the film. Take a listen below.

Rest In Peace, Chris.

There was no way I was going to pass up this incredible calendar aligning opportunity.

This week on Monday Music we’re covering *NSYNC’s It’s Gonna Be Me. Let’s relive fifth grade all over again!

Some say this song is about a woman who has been scorned by past lovers, I say NAY! NAY! It’s obviously an allegory for the war in Kuwait.

Kidding aside, there isn’t much to be said about It’s Gonna Be Me seventeen years later. One of those Max Martin instant golds, it’s still a banger to this day. I’ll be playing it this weekend at the bars!

Probably the biggest business blunder this year, behind United Airline’s new deplaning policy, Nintendo announced today that they are halting production of the insanely popular NES Classic.

Nintendo of America provided this statement to IGN:

Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product

Their plans for the NES Classic were, apparently, always short term. After the HUGE success of their first run, they did a second manufacturing.

I’m not sure WHY they want to discontinue such a money maker, but Nintendo does what Nintendo pleases.

So gobble ’em up if you see em, just don’t pull a “Shades” and start scalping them.

It’s…it’s finally happening. It’s here. The Netflix Original reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000 is almost online, and today we’ve got this teaser trailer. WATCH IT!

This is a glorious moment. Die hard MSTies have been dreaming of a revival of their favorite show, and with the generously funded Kickstarter campaign, the dream became a reality.

I was a little nervous when the new cast and crew was announced; changes include new voices for our beloved robots, and a new host. The addition of some flashy Hollywood names, which, to quote a MST3K expert on the subject, is just “diluting the charm of the show with LA stars”, which made a lot of fans  cautious as to how it would all turn out. That being said, Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn, taking on the roles of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo respectively, could not have been a better choice. They fit the bill perfectly and I cannot wait to see them riffing on movies. Jury is still out on Felicia and Patton, but I believe Joel Hodgson, the shows creator and lead on the revival, made the right choice.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns this April 14th, only on Netflix!

I’m not sure how to express. This video by GamerBoyMedia is the perfect combination of hilarity and cuteness. Watching a group of Pokemon tackle a Dragonforce song hits all the right notes. Like that pun? Yeah, I know you did.

This week on Monday Music we’ve got the first single from the 12th studio album from the legendary 311. Check out the video for Too Much To Think below!

This is all really surprising to me.

Personally, I’ve relegated 311 to a “dead band”. A punchline to a joke about milquetoast music. Never really exploring the band’s content, I almost dismissed the press release all together; I was just going to write up the new Weeknd music video instead. I stopped and thought “ehhh, lets just give it a chance”.

I was blown away. What the hell happened to 311?! This wasn’t what I remembered them as. I even went back and listened to some of their older work.

Too Much To Think is a tremendous single. It has a very “modern” feel: The production is tight, the lyrics feel like they could come from any Top 40 tropical house track, the instrumentals are vibrant and relaxing. I am getting this nostalgic feeling for a band that holds no nostalgia for me.

The band’s newest album, MOSAIC, is out this summer. I will definitely be getting my hands on it.

You can also check out their Summer 2017 North American tour info on their official website. They’re hitting up a lot of cities and festivals!

Welcome back to another installment of Crowdfund This. Where we here at Geekscape share with you amazing and incredible crowdfunding campaigns that you need to see. This time around take a look at Never Hike Alone: A Friday The 13th Fan Film. Horror fans, take note!

Never Hike Alone is a 22-minute short film that follows the story of KYLE MCLEOD (Andrew Leighty), an avid backcountry hiker who, while on a solo backpacking trip, discovers the long lost remains of CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE. Ignoring the campfire ghost stories from his childhood, Kyle’s curious nature draws him in to see what is left of the camp since it was closed after the infamous 1980 Friday the 13th murders.

This has got me absolutely pumped! Not being a hardcore horror fan, Friday the 13th has always been my favorite horror franchise. With the announcement that the upcoming remake was cancelled by Paramount, Friday fans don’t really have much new content on the horizon.

Never Hike Alone aims to fill the void left by the feature film being shutdown, and they need your help!

The majority of principle filming has been completed. The team over at Womp Stomp Films just needs a little bit more to get the project finished.

For more information, and to peep some of their INCREDIBLE backer perks, check out the official KickStarter.

Mere weeks after cleaning house at the Golden Globes, La La Land is poised to do the same at this years Oscar’s. Currently tied for the record with 14 nominations. That’s incredible!

Take a look at the full list below.

The 89th Academy Awards air February 24th at 4 PM PST on ABC. They are hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The best thing that Blizzard is doing with Overwatch (that is going to contribute greatly to it’s longevity), are their Seasonal Events. Summer games, Halloween, and Christmas were all a hoot to play. Players get access to awesome character skins, emotes and game-modes; while some levels got a nice makeover. All have been well received by the community and really show that Blizzard cares about the quality of life for Overwatch. Valve, take note. Santa hats on the CS:GO chickens aren’t enough.

A few weeks ago we got teased for their newest event celebrating the Lunar New Year, and today we finally get the full list of details! Check out the trailer below.

We got ourselves a HUGE series of goodies to track down and fight for. Over 100 different cosmetic items can be had from Lunar New Year Loot Boxes. As always, players can earn them from play or buy them for real cash.

The event starts TODAY and goes until February 13th. You can find me frantically searching for that Mei skin. Mei is bae.

This week’s Monday music is from a band that needs no introduction.

I cannot describe my excitement for this song, Gorillaz are one of my all time favorite bands. The past few days have been those of a intense, joyous fervor in the music community. Gorillaz have released their first song in five years, and it’s a politically charged one at that. Debuted a day before President Trump’s inauguration, Hallelujah Money is a direct attack at his presidency. And I cannot be happier for it.

The opening shot of the video is an animated depiction of Trump Tower’s elevator bay. The video “takes place” in one of the tower’s elevators, and the single’s lead singer, Benjamin Clementine, is eerily lit. Clashing symbolic imagery is projected on the walls of the elevator, too many subtleties to coherently list here. Shots of La Candelaria Brotherhood, whose religious garb is almost exactly the same as the KKK, brings a contradicting image. The juxtaposition of the hate that the KKK represents and the peaceful, holy ceremonies of La Candelaria during their holy week. This all alludes to Trump, and that his outward “persona” are not what they seem; a commentary on his supporter’s mental gymnastics trying to excuse his negative traits; OR that he is painted as this terrible tyrant but underneath the surface isn’t. It can really be interrupted both ways.  Shots of Napoleon and Animal Farm are pretty self explanatory. Throughout the video we see Benjamin riding the elevator UP and out from the dark and gloomy imagery, to happiness, rainbows and American flags. The random shot of Spongebob at the end is from an episode where he is fired from his job, a direct reference to Trump’s catchphrase on his reality TV show The Apprentice.

Shot of the elevators from Trump Tower.

The lyrics tell a haunting tale of fear and greed. We must protect our sacred trees and their fruit, from evil scarecrows from the far east. We must build a wall stronger than Jericho. The repeating praises of money, Hallelujah Money, tells us how much we as a modern society worship cash.

I love this song. Most negative critiques of the tune are from people who are ignorant of Gorillaz extensive catalog (I’m looking at you Reddit). All I’ve seen from online keyboard warriors is how this isn’t as good as their “popular” songs, and that Benjamin Clementine is a “terrible fit” for it. OR how Gorillaz need to not be so “political”. These statements are so asinine it hurts. The band has always been political; their first album was a commentary on over-processed “fake” musicians. Demons Days is an anti Iraq war record (with direct attacks on George Bush). Plastic Beach, lambasting our instant gratification, extremely disposable society. Each album represents a story, and Hallelujah Money is an interlude or bridging song in the overall story that the next album will be. The 6/8 time signature is discomforting for someone expecting a 4/4 pop song. I love this song. I cannot wait for the full album to be released.

Let us know in the comments your thoughts on Hallelujah Money. What do you think about it’s anti Trump/capitalism message? How well do you think Benjamin Clementine fits in with the group.

I guess it can! Last few weeks on the Geekscape Games Podcast, we have been discussing the collaboration between SquareEnix and Ariana Grande.

The recording artist is being added as a playable character for the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. In fact you can snag Dangerous Ariana starting TODAY! If players complete the “Dangerous Woman” event on easy you can snag the pop idol yourself.

That’s not why you’re here, is it? No. You want to hear the OFFICIAL orchestra remix of her song Touch It. A song about sex with the ex. A song about her vagina. Remixed by an orchestra. The Final Fantasy orchestra.

WHAT EVEN IS REALITY ANYMORE?!
