On Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier posted an article detailing just how much of a trainwreck EA and Bioware’s newest AAA live service Anthem actually was behind the scenes. In the past couple of years, it’s been the norm to usually blame the publisher for when most things in AAA development go awry (as seen with both Star Wars Battlefront debacles and Destiny.) Usually, the higher-ups in the publishing company will try and shift the core focus of the game to match modern gaming trends or even try and disrupt it via additional monetization or cutting out integral story content to use it later on down the line as additional content. With Anthem though, it’s not so black and white.

It turns out that Bioware had much more freedom to do what they wanted to do with the project. Due to upper leadership problems, and not having a clear direction, the project ended up suffering. I’ll be covering some key points, but not everything mentioned by Kotaku. The article itself goes into incredible depth, so check it out here. It’s definitely worth a read. With that being said, let’s take a look at this mess.

1. Pre-Production

Remember that beautiful and dynamic demo that EA showed of Anthem back at Microsoft’s E3 2017 conference? It turns out the version we saw wasn’t real. It didn’t really exist. Anthem started pre-production back in 2012 and only entered full-on production in October of 2017. around October 2017. This means the game only started full-time development 5 ½ into its 7-year development cycle!

This comes down to the project leaders constantly changing what the game would be. Everything from a more bitter survival game to its current state as a mech-based looter shooter. The fact that these leads constantly kept poor communication with their team is stressing as all hell for the team. Imagine you’re creature or character designer for this game and are constantly afraid that everything you’ve been designing for a couple of months can be thrown away at any moment because it no longer matches what the leads want for the game. The kind of un-needed stress that this caused many employees during the 7-year dev cycle of Anthem is frankly disgusting and makes those in charge of it look incredibly unprofessional and inept to the mental damage they’re causing their employees.

By this point, EA had become upset with Bioware’s failure to get any part of Anthem off the ground that they forced the release date of February 22nd, 2019. This resulted in bringing on Dragon Age Producer Mark Darrah, who along with EA, was responsible for getting the Anthem team in gear.

EA’s frustration is pretty justified. They had put a tremendous amount of time, money, and faith into Bioware, only to find out that 5 ½ years into development that they still have barely anything to show for it. Usually taking a year or 2 to plan a big project isn’t too unheard of, but once that time is more than half of its cycle, I think it might be time to switch gears to a different project.

2. Gameplay
Can you Imagine Anthem without its trademark flying mechanic? One of the sole things most reviews could agree on was the thrill of choosing the Javelin of your choice and flying wherever you wanted to. Well, turns out Bioware could, and they almost completely abandoned it! This wasn’t a one-time thing either, as Bioware constantly struggled internally to keep and drop the much-loved mechanic due to control concerns. It also didn’t help that every time they’d drop or bring back flying that the design team would have to constantly re-design the world so that it could feel more seamless to have it in the game.

The result of this ends up being a game where it’s fun to fly around, but disappointing due to there not being much that takes advantage of the mechanic. The fact that the leads of the project could never fully come to an agreement on a very integral part of the game is incredibly alarming. It shouldn’t take 5 ½ years to decide on something like this, especially if they want it as one of the foundation pillars of their game.

On the other hand, it’s no secret that the tomb trials are one of the most heavily criticized aspects of Anthem. They’re said to be nothing more than monotonous and unnecessary padding for a game that already felt light on content. Was this intended by Bioware or perhaps one of their many oversights during the project’s hell induced cycle?

To no surprise, they weren’t a mistake. Knowing about the lack of content and short length of the game and the release approaching, the team chose to add the trials, but not without an internal fight. It’s absolutely ridiculous that because they wasted so much time into what they wanted this game to be, that they fundamentally failed at really putting anything substantial into it. Even worse, there was infrastructure in place to also have time gates in which the player would have to wait days to get past. Here’s a question: If they realized that players would grow tired of the tombs repetition, why anger them further with a time gate? At that point, you’re just asking for your player base to hard quit.

Repetition isn’t always a bad thing. Rare’s Sea of Thieves is a personal favorite of mine, and the game released light on content as well. Where Rare was able to succeed, however, was that even though the voyage missions were relatively the same, the fun and excitement came from what happened on the trip to our destinations. Whether it was getting attacked by an enemy ship, finding shipwrecks underwater, or even fighting a Kraken, there was always something new. The area where Sea of Thieves draws the line though is that nothing is ever forced on you. Anthem, on the other hand, constantly has you doing busy work to distract you from a game and world that is mostly barren.

3. Destiny
Destiny is a game similar to Anthem. Both are incredibly ambitious projects that each company has spent several years developing. They’ve each had incredibly rocky starts and mismanagement, but they do diverge. Bungie has been steadily learning from all of their mistakes with Destiny to help shape it into a better game. You’d think that after its release that Bioware would be closely paying attention to what was going on and constantly tweak and learn how to craft a better Anthem from Destiny’s faults. If only it were that easy.

Turns out that Destiny was the biggest no-no word for the project leads as they would constantly become angered anytime the live service was brought up. The leads were so convinced that what they were doing was so far removed from Bungie’s looter shooter they wouldn’t hear a thing about it.

There’s so much in Anthem that could easily have been improved if they’d been able to learn from Destiny. These things may not have been solved overnight, but seeing as the game was in production long enough to see 2 Destiny titles released, I’d say there was plenty of chance to right Anthem’s wrongs. Some things include but are not limited to; gun variety, mission structure, general online stability, engaging NPCs, and of course, loot drops.

Imagine you’re a gameplay designer and not satisfied with the loot drops in Anthem or how the guns feel. Trying to bring these problems up to the higher-ups and trying to build off of Destiny would get you the cold shoulder and sent off back to your cubicle. Now with no real leads on where to take these elements, it all comes down to crossed fingers and hoping for the best.

At the end of the day, Schrier’s article is eye-opening in many ways. So often these days when a game doesn’t turn out as planned, it’s easy for everyone to point fingers at the publisher and scream foul. Rarely do we realize that a lot of times it can also result from a directionless leader within the developer instead. All that was asked was for Bioware to admit responsibility and promise to learn from their mistakes. I guess it’s sad that they didn’t then.

Only a couple of hours post-Kotaku article, Bioware posted their own response to the tale of tragedy with deflection. Instead of taking responsibility for their actions, they tried to take the article’s call for change within the company as a toxic attack on the company as a whole. This is incredibly discouraging as the 19 employees re-telling their tale of terror and anxiety were attempted to be made light of or dismissed.

It’s never fun to watch a respected developer lose their way, but that is sadly what is happening with Bioware. I never want to say that something is damaged beyond repair, but for now, the “Bioware Magic” that the company insists carries them, is no more. I don’t think Anthem is completely lost though. Just like Sea of Thieves, No Man’s Sky and more, If Bioware really listens to fan feedback then they can improve the game in future updates. Hopefully, someone high within the company finds a way to address the problems plaguing them. Only then can they rekindle that magic.

The Detective Pikachu film by Legendary Pictures has just started shooting in London this month.

A Twitter user by the name of HowardBud was actually around one of the filming locations and was able to snap a couple of pictures from the set. The area in the film is Police Plaza, located in Ryme City, the setting of the film. We also get a bulletin board that seems to indicate that some Pokemon have gone missing, and it seems we have some previews of their CG models as well. Among these are Machoke, Graveller, and Pancham.

Other pictures also include the logo for the Ryme City Police Department (shown in the article banner above), and the look of the police cars. The film is being directed by Goosebumps 2015 director Rob Letterman and is scheduled for release on May 10th, 2019.  Are you excited about the film or completely writing it off?

Did you ever use cardboard boxes to make forts, costumes, and other things when you were younger?

If so, Nintendo has just announced the perfect building kit for you. Meet Nintendo Labo for Nintendo Switch. As mentioned, Nintendo Labo is a new initiative by Nintendo to produce building kits for some of their more experimental Switch ideas. The accessory is set to launch this April 20th with 2 SKU’S. The first one is a Variety Kit, which includes many different types of projects ranging from Pianos to fishing rods, motorcycles, and even more! The second package is the Robot Kit, which has you assembling a suit where you can take control of a giant transforming robot (very similar to the canceled Wii U title Project Giant Robot.)

The Variety Kit will be sold for $70, while the Robot Kit will go for a pretty steep $80. It’ll be interesting to see how successful or not this will be in the market. Nintendo is no stranger to console peripherals whether they be good or bad. If a success, it’ll be fun to see what other ideas Nintendo has for Labo in the future. If it fails, it’ll have been a fun experiment. Regardless, this is a very creative way of using the Switch and Joycons outside of just its normal functionality. Check out the announcement trailer below. Are you going to pick up Nintendo Labo?

One of the most inventive games to come out in the past decade would have to be the Scribblenauts series. Created in 2009 for the DS by Jeremiah Slaczka and 5th Cell, the game was a breakout hit for WB Games and spawned 3 sequels, one of which included the ability to summon anyone from the DC universe.

Ever since 2013, the series has been on a bit of a hiatus, but it looks like that’s finally over. This morning WB Games announced Scribblenauts Showdown for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 with a release date of March 6th. While the game isn’t a traditional adventure, it still retains what makes Scribblenauts such a unique series. throughout the 25+ mini-games in the package, players will still have access to the over 35,000-word library that fans have come to know and love. Also featured in the game is a character creator and a Sandbox mode more reminiscent of the original games.

Even if it’s not a main series title, it’s still great to see that Scribblenauts hasn’t been forgotten and just tossed into a bin of abandoned IP’S. What do you think of Scribblenauts Showdown? Are you interested in trying it out, or are you holding out for a more traditional game in the series? Check out the announcement trailer below.

2 years ago the internet exploded after finding out about the then Japanese exclusive game Great Detective Pikachu.

A mystery detective game similar to Phoenix that takes place in the world of Pokemon with a talking deep voiced Pikachu? Sign me up! Sadly, details about a western release for the game were very quiet after its foreign release. The only real news America ever received about Detective Pikachu was that film company Legendary had acquired the rights to make a live-action/CGI hybrid film written by Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch and starring Ryan Reynolds. Thankfully, fans no longer have to wait anymore.

Yesterday morning out of the blue, The Pokemon Company announced that Detective Pikachu will officially be getting a  U.S and U.K release on March 23rd, 2018. Not only that, but the game will also release alongside the gorgeous Detective Pikachu Amiibo. The figure comes in at around 13.6CM! That’s almost half as big as the regular Smash Bros series Pikachu. With the Amiibo, users will be able to tap it to receive hints on how to solve the current mystery their investigating.

Are you excited that this game is finally making its way to the U.S? Are you planning on buying the game, or are you done with anything having to do with the 3DS now that the Switch has been dominating the market? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below, and check out the official announcement trailer right here.

A remastering of Dark Souls for the Nintendo Switch has been one of the worst-kept secrets in about the last year of gaming.

As early as the original announcement trailer for the console, rumors started that From Software had their hands on early dev kits for the console and were very impressed at how well their games could run on the system. Flash forward finally to this month with Nintendo’s mini direct, and the cat has finally been let out of the bag. Dark Souls Remastered is officially making its way to the Xbox One, PS4, PC, and of course, the Nintendo Switch on May 25th. The game will run at 720P undocked, and 1080P docked. Both modes will also include a 30FPS as well. Well worth a couple of frames shaved off to have a souls game on a portable console essentially.  Are you excited to pick up Dark Souls Remastered on the Switch?  Tell us in the comments below, and check out the teaser trailer to help entice you until the release.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was one of the most overlooked titles for the Wii U.

The game seemed to come out at the wrong place at the wrong time, where in order to keep Wii U sales afloat in 2014, Nintendo ended up littering the console with 2D platformers in hopes of turning things around. Not only did this not work, but in the sea of 2D platformers, Retro Studios’s sublime sequel to Donkey Kong Country Returns got overlooked for just being another platformer. Flash forward 4 years, and the game has become a Wii U gem, often being praised for the amazing soundtrack and cohesive level design. Now, people who never owned a Wii U or gave Tropical Freeze a shot can now finally experience pure platform joy and bliss.

During Nintendo’s surprise mini direct yesterday morning, the company announced that the game will be heading to the Nintendo Switch on May 4th. Probably the most exciting aspect of the announcement is the addition of a new mode. The game now includes a mode that’ll allow you to play as everyone’s favorite surfer monkey Funky Kong. Funky essentially acts as an easy mode for new players trying to get into the series, which is good for a tough as nails platformer as this one. Using his surfboard, Funky Kong can infinitely hover in the air, double jump, roll forever, and even breath underwater forever. This marks the characters first playable appearance in about 10 years since his unlockable appearance in Mario Super Sluggers for the Wii.

Are you excited for Tropical Freeze heading to the switch and Funky Kong’s playable return? Tell us in the comments below, and also check out the trailer for the game below as well!

11 Years ago Square Enix released a small RPG title for the Nintendo DS.

This game had an odd story and even odder gameplay. Unlike normal RPG’S, this one took advantage of the dual screens on the console to create 2 separate styles of gameplay. One where you would normally attack your way through enemies, and the other where you’d use magical pins to attack. Although very positively reviewed and loved by fans, the game failed to sell enough copies to warrant a sequel and any continuation of the series. This game was The World Ends With You, and the game is finally receiving a 2nd chance at success.

Nintendo’s January mini direct kicked off with this announcement, and fans were absolutely ecstatic about the announcement. Remember that weird anime guy with the headphones from Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance? His name is Neku, and he’s the main protagonist of the game.  The game starts with a mysterious countdown timer appearing on his hand informing him to get downtown or face termination, and from there, mysteries and mysteries abound pop up.

For fans planning a return trip to the game, you’ll be happy to know that Square will be adding a whole new section of the game that definitively wraps up the story for good. No release date has been announced, but the game is slated as a Nintendo Switch exclusive for sometime this year.  Check out the announcement trailer below!

Right off of the heels of their recent progression video and release date, Rare’s Sea of Thieves will finally be sailing the rocky waters of the closed beta in anticipation for the games’ March 20th release date.

Players who enrolled in the Technical Alpha program before its closure back in December have been guaranteed a spot in the games’ closed beta, and so have customers who have pre-purchased the game on the Xbox or Windows store. The best part is that players of the beta have free reign for streaming the game! That’s right, no more NDA’s. Rare wants you to share your best pirate moments with the world now.

With March slowly looming over the horizon, Microsft and many people are hoping for Sea of Thieves to be a breakout hit for Microsoft, as they’ve sadly been lacking major 1st party titles in comparison to Sony’s monster PS4 line-up that’s been growing rapidly for the past 2 years. Here’s hoping Rare delivers an open world experience that no one will soon forget.

It’s been a busy 2 weeks for Rare and the crew making Sea of Thieves. Last week during The Game Awards, Rare revealed that the highly anticipate open word adventure will be hitting Xbox One and Windows 10 on March 20th, 2018. While the game hasn’t made a public appearance outside of E3 2017 and Comic Con 2016, Players have slowly been chipping away at the game’s technical alpha for the past year now consistently playing the game and giving their feedback directly to Rare themselves.  This week also seems to be big for Rare as they’ve detailed a bit more on what you can expect to see in the full game.

The short 7-minute progress video seems to give off a personal and warm vibe, similar to a Nintendo Direct. Design Director Mike Chapman takes fans through some of the meatier features of the game such as creating alliances with certain guilds and the variety of mission structures. Check out the full video below for more info, and also check out our 2016 SDCC interview with Executive Producer Joe Neate. Sea of Thieves will be releasing for Xbox One and Windows 10.

Yesterday was a big day for Capcom.

Monday, December 4, 2017, marked a special 30th-anniversary stream for the Megaman where Capcom dropped some big bombs about the future of our beloved robot hero. The first news was that all 8 Megaman X games are coming to current-gen consoles, PC, and even the Nintendo Switch. The second piece of news was that the recent Megaman Legacy games will finally be arriving on the Switch with Amiibo support sometime in 2018. No exact date was given, but it can be safely assumed that it’ll release sometime in the first half of the year.

The last big bombshell of the celebration stream was none other than the announcement that Megaman 11 is real and is officially in development for all current-gen consoles and PC. The game is expected sometime late 2018. With the announcement also came with a pretty sweet trailer that gives us a taste of what the art and gameplay will look like. The game is what you’d traditionally expect out of the first 10 games, but the art style is a bit different. instead of using pixel art, the game instead is trying something new and using a more 3D hand-drawn style for the game. Check out the trailer below and enjoy the reunion.

Well, it took 10 years and 3 phases in the making, but Avengers Infinity War is now closer than ever.

It seems as though we’ve known about this movie since the start of the MCU, just patiently biding time until we get up to this point. While other companies try and rush out cinematic universes for quick cash, they’ve all paled in comparison to the time, care, and planning that goes into the MCU. The first official trailer for the film dropped just this morning and fans are already going nuts. The video already has over 10 million views and been trending like crazy. No trailer play by play this time, just sit back and enjoy the trailer. Avengers Infinity War will release on May 4th, 2018.

19 Years ago Pokemon USA, along with help from 4Kids Entertainment, unleashed the English dub of Japan’s ever-popular Pocket Monsters Anime in North America, and almost 20 years later the original series is still being watched by millions of kids and adults alike.

This new Blu-ray release thanks to the help of Viz Media, is a wonderful way of returning to the first 52 episodes of the much-beloved series and dub.  Let’s jump right into things. This release is a 6 disc set containing 9 episodes each. Every episode is now watchable in 1080p HD making them look better than ever. Having just recently binged through the original series, the restoration done for this set is beautiful. The hand-painted backgrounds still maintain their original look, but look way sharper and clearer, making this one of the best ways to watch the original series.

The presentation is very nice. The box containing the Blu-ray itself is very nice to look at. The outer casing is shaped like a Pokedex, although opening up still reveals a bulky, but nice looking light blue case. Each disc has its own attract menu showing snippets of which episodes are contained on it. All the episodes also contain their original bumpers from when they first aired on TV. It’s a little touch, but seeing those we’ll be right back bumpers and the 4Kids logo during the credits brings back a strange sense of warm nostalgia. Also, yes, the Pokerap is still there for your viewing pleasure. Speaking of the Pokerap, it was a great addition to get the full U.S and U.K versions of the rap as a special feature.

Now if this just came with Season 1 restoration of Indigo League, it’d already make for a fun package, but Viz added a couple of other treats to this package; alongside the 6 disc set, the package also comes with the first 4 chapters of the ever popular Pokemon Adventures Manga, as well as a cookbook recipe for Sweet Potato Pikachu. Aside from those 2 additions, the real special features included on the disc are a bit of a disappointment.  On top of the 2 different versions of the Pokerap, each disc comes with a small Who’s That Pokemon Slideshow containing at least 3 Pokemon per disc. It’s nothing exciting and is pretty bare bones. If they really want to attach some cool Special Features, it’d be great to see the aired once and never again episode Beauty and the Beach. Cast interviews with the original voices could also be a fun addition.

At the end of the day, Pokemon Season 1 Champion’s Edition is a great buy for Pokefans old and new. These episodes look better than ever thanks to digital restoration, and having the original dub and bumpers together will make this set even more special if you grew up watching the series during its original airing. This collection runs from around $45-$70, so it’s definitely worth the pickup.

Well, looks like the time has finally arrived.

Announced just a couple of hours ago, Disney will be releasing the first public teaser for The Incredibles 2 sometime tomorrow on Saturday, November 18th. The announcement was just a short video with text with a brief Jack Jack laugh at the end, but nonetheless, people are excited. If there’s only one sequel that people have wanted Pixar to make in the midst of all their other completely unnecessary sequels, this one was the most necessary and seemed to have the most potential. What are your thoughts on the original Incredibles? Are you excited about the sequel? Tell us in the comments below!

In case you missed out on yesterday, Sony took Paris Games Week by storm.

The biggest stand-out was a brand new trailer for the highly anticipated Naughty Dog title The Last of Us: Part 2. Our first teaser last year at PSX 2016 showed us a hardened Ellie with Joel walking in on her playing guitar. The new trailer takes a sharp right turn and completely throws all of that out of the window. Brand new characters are introduced as we lay witness to a pretty gruesome torture scene as one woman is being hung while the other is having her arms broken with a hammer. The trailer ends with both of them being rescued just barely. All this is accompanied by some of the most beautiful graphics on a console to date. Check out the full trailer below, but be warned, the trailer is not for people with a weak constitution. The Last of Us Part 2 has no release date and will be releasing exclusively for PS4.

For those that missed it yesterday, Sony blew the lid off of Paris Games Week this year!

So much great stuff was announced from the studio itself to its big 3rd party partners, but the biggest surprises to some came in the form of indie love. During the conference, 2 sequels to two beloved indie games were announced, Spelunky 2 and Guacamelee 2. The original Spelunky is an action arcade type game where you play as a miner as they descend into deep caves looking for treasure and trying not to die. It’s loads of fun and completely chaotic when playing with multiplayer with others.  The trailer doesn’t reveal gameplay, but from the looks of it, it looks like you’ll be playing as the Daughter of the main character from the original game.

Guacamelee, on the other hand, is a Metroidvania style game where you play as a luchador in an attempt to rescue the president’s daughter from the evil clutches of a fiend named Carlos Calaca. The game is heavily steeped in Mexican lore and has a great shifting worlds mechanic. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already.  Guacamelee 2 takes place 7 years after the original and has your character Juan Aguacate returning once again to rescue the world! No release dates were given for the games, but Guacamelee 2 is promised to be soon-ish according to developer Drinkbox Studios. Check out the trailer for Guacamelee 2 down below, and tell us in the comments which game you’re most excited for!

The last time we saw a Nintendo mobile game grace our presence was this February with the release of Fire Emblem Heroes on android and IOS.  Announced about a year ago alongside Fire Emblem, Nintendo has been dead silent about Animal Crossing Mobile. Well, the increasingly painful wait is about to be over! This morning, Nintendo announced a brand new Animal Crossing direct for Tuesday, October 24th at 8 PM PST.  The direct will run about 15 minutes and showcase gameplay for the upcoming mobile title. Odds are we might even get the game tomorrow as well! What are you hoping to see in  Animal Crossing Mobile? Tell us in the comments below!

The Jackbox Party Pack 4 is the 4th installment in what has become the yearly Jackbox series. This time around, Jackbox Games has brought only 1 familiar game, and 4 brand new ones revealed over the course of this summer, and while they all aren’t perfect, There are still plenty of great laughs and moments to be had with the game 4 iterations in.

Fibbage 3 is the first and only returning veteran game this time around. Nothing has changed other than new questions and the removal of the deFIBrillator.  The best new addition to Fibbage 3 comes in a new mode titled Fibbage: Enough About You. This mode is where you write out truths about yourself and see if you’re closest friends can get them right. It can be incredibly satisfying when you’ve perfectly guessed one of your friends, and even more surprising when you find out things you never knew about them.

Survive the Internet is the first new game of the pack and is also a contender for one of the pack’s best offerings. Players are asked pretty tame and tepid questions about their thoughts on medial and trivial things. Afterwards, those words are given to another player and are told to twist them into something vile and untrue in order to slander their reputation. Much like Quiplash before it, this game is not for the faint of heart, but you’ll find plenty of gut-busting and chuckle-worthy moments that make the game worth coming back to constantly.

Monster Seeking Monster is a mystery dating game where you play the role of a monster in disguise trying to date other monsters. Each of you has a hidden ability that’s only revealed if you are the highest placing player. You must attempt to date and gain hearts for 6 nights while trying to avoid having your ability revealed. It can take at least 1 full game to really understand the game which goes against the easy pick-up-and-play nature of Jackbox, but it can be very rewarding the second time around, as play styles can slightly change depending on which monster you are. The only thing weighing the game down a bit is that the usual 8th spot in the game is exclusively reserved for the audience this time around. It can be fun to watch it choose random pickup lines in hopes of dating someone, but it would have been nice to have an option to turn them off and replace them with a proper 8th person.

The 4th game on the list is Bracketeering, this pack’s answer to Quiplash. Players answer one prompt and duke it out in a tournament sized bracket to see who’s answer is the best. Players can also bet on which answer they think will make it out on top before, and during the start of a new bracket for extra points. The big draw of the game is the ability to play with up to 16 people at once, but sadly this ends up hurting the game in the long run. There are no options to readjust brackets for games with less than 16 people, so the game automatically fills in answers. The computer prompts aren’t especially enticing or fun, and more often than not, just draw the game out too long. There’s also the fact that ties are settled by quickly tapping the answer you want to win. In a group f 16+ this probably wouldn’t be a big problem, but when you have a group of 6-8 people, it can become unbalanced if someone is faster at tapping than others. While a great idea on paper, Bracketeering is ultimately undone by its ambitious scope.

The 5th and final game is Civic Doodle. In the game, the mayor of Doodle Valley tasks you with drawing murals and pictures of citizens in order to make the town a nicer place. Players will take turns competing against each other as they draw different murals on the same wall. Once a winning mural is chosen, the next players will be tasked to modify or add more to the drawing. once everyone has had 2 turns to draw, everyone must name the mural. Much like Survive the Internet, Civic Doodle is one of the top contenders for this year’s pack. It’s tons of fun seeing odd and hilarious modifications being made to previous paintings. the only downside is that 2 rounds in an 8 player game can drag out just a bit as 8 phases to one round is already a lot.

Overall, The Jackbox Party Pack 4 is still a great time with friends on or off the internet.  Expanded audience features are nice, such as being able to choose a collective lie for Fibbage 3, but others such as being the only 8th player in Monster Seeking Monster impede on some of the local aspects of the game.

FINAL VERDICT: ★★★★☆

Right off the heels of its stunning 2 million+ units sold in the U.S, The Nintendo Switch has just received a small, but major update!

The new 4.0.0 update for the console now boasts long-awaited features such as save and profile transfers as well as video capture for a select number of first-party titles. you are now able to hold down the capture button to record a 30-second clip from Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2.  Odds are that support for Super Mario Odyssey will also be coming within the next couple of weeks as well. More profile pictures have even been added. Users can now select the champions from Breath of the Wild, as well as an assortment of Super Mario Odyssey pics including Cappy, Dinosaur Mario, and more! Check out the video below about video sharing, and get ready to spend more time with your Switch!

Ever since the disaster that was Josh Tranks Fant4stic, the idea of a horror-based superhero movie has always intrigued people; the idea that young people are discovering their powers in horrific and painful ways could be something really interesting and fun to follow. Done wrong, however, it can come off low-budget and messy. Fox is throwing their hat in the ring for a second attempt at doing this right with The New Mutants, directed by Josh Boone (The Fault In Our Stars). If any superhero group is perfect for a horror hybrid, it’s 100% no-doubt the X-Men. The trailer starts out promisingly; a young mutant is being asked about if she’s killed or hurt anyone with her powers. Sadly, as the trailer goes on, the film starts showing its cracks, as it looks a bit low-budget, descending into bad Blumhouse film territory.

Hopefully, this was just a bad trailer, as I think the idea of a horror-superhero hybrid movie could be something wonderful. Check out the trailer below for yourself and tell us what you think about it. The New Mutants will be released on April 13th, 2018.

It’s been over 20 years in the making, but we’re finally getting a proper sendoff to one of Nickelodeon’s most popular Nicktoons!

We’re one day away from the 2nd resurrection of one of gamings most iconic video game competitions ever, the Nintendo World Championships.

What are the Nintendo World Championships?

For those not in the know, the Nintendo World Championships were a 3-day event ranging from December 7th-9th  featuring 90 contestants over 3 age groups. The competition was a score challenge set across 3 games: Super Mario Bros., Rad Racer, and Tetris. Each game also had their own requirements; Super Mario Bros. tasked you with collecting 50 Coins, Rad Racer had you completing the first course, and finally, Tetris asked you to gain as many points as you possibly could before your 6 minutes were up. This event went down as one of the biggest and best championships in gaming, then vanished the next year.

Flash forward 25 years, after the original NWC was only but a glimmering memory to some; little did people know something big was about to happen. On May 13th, 2015, Nintendo announced that the revival of the competition would be held at the Microsoft Theater during E3. This time there were 16 players and no age groups, with a total of 8 games. These included Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, and more! There were also multiple game surprises, such as the announcement of Earthbound Beginnings (Earthbound Zero) finally being released in the U.S. Out of the 16, John Numbers emerged victoriously! Thus brought closure to another NWC.

How do I watch the Nintendo World Championships 2017?

This year, the championships are being held at the Manhattan’s Center Grand Ballroom in NYC on October 7th. People who live in the area actually have a chance to attend the event in person! People will be able to line up starting at 9 AM EST on the 7th for a chance at getting a special wristband to enter the event with doors opening at 3 PM EST. Can’t make it there in person? No problem! You can always watch the competition live from the comfort of your home. Nintendo will be live streaming the event on their Twitch, Youtube, and official website starting tomorrow at 2 PM PST or 5 PM EST. That’s it! You are now ready to enjoy one of the best gaming events ever. So invite some friends, buy some snacks, and enjoy the Nintendo World Championships 2017!

Earlier this week, Jackbox Games announced that their upcoming addictive party game will be stealing your life on October 17th, just a couple of weeks away from Halloween. Even if you are told that you’re too old for trick or treating you can scare up a good time. A couple of weeks ago, we compiled a list of all the games in this year’s pack. So grab your family and friends and play a rousing game of Monster Seeking Monster or Fibbage 3. What’s your most anticipated game for the pack? Tell us in the comments below!

While Nintendo fans wait eagerly this holiday season to take Skyrim on the go with them, Bethesda has some more surprises for Switch fans coming up soon.

This afternoon during today’s Nintendo Direct, Bethesda announced that they’re bringing the critically acclaimed Doom 2016 and the upcoming insanity that is Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus to the Switch.  Doom in all of its blood and gore goodness will gush onto the switch this holiday season, while Wolfenstein 2 will be shooting its way to a 2018 release. This is another huge win for 3rd party support on the Nintendo Switch. Doom 2016 is already an amazing game, and now being able to play it on the go wherever you want is a dream come true. It’s also great to see a relatively new release such as W2 not being left in the dust for too long as well. Are you excited that 3rd party support is ramping up in a big way for the Switch? Tell us in the comments below!

Star Wars has been in a big mess lately.

While Episode VII re-ignited the long dormant franchise after the prequel plague, it seems like every week now there’s some sort of drama going on behind the scenes. From Rogue One’s extensive reshoots, the untimely death of Carrie Fisher, the firing of Phil Lord/Chris Miller from the Han Solo standalone film, and Colin Trevorrow’s removal from Episode IX, the beloved series has had more downs than ups recently. However, it seems like they’re finally coming up from the water to breathe easy for once.

Just announced, J.J Abrams will officially be returning to the writer and directors chair for the 2019 film. Some might be a bit hesitant as many heavily criticize Abrams for simply remaking A New Hope, but personally, The Force Awakens had better characters, even with a somewhat recycled story (Which is still a good story.) Even though this is good news, Kathleen Kennedy and the crew aren’t completely out of the woods; The Last Jedi has a good amount of people nervous about it, and the Han Solo film is still a never-ending dumpster fire. What do you think? Was this a good or bad move? Tell us in the comments below!

One of the most unique games to grace the 7th generation of game consoles was Rockstar Games and Team Bondi’s L.A. Noire. The game became infamous for having one of the craziest development cycles, as well as shutting down the developer Team Bondi 5 months after release. Aside from the controversy, the game was pretty much universally praised by critics and fans alike.

Now, the game is getting another chance to shine. This morning, Rockstar announced that the game will be heading to next gen platforms November 14th. This includes your usual suspects like PS4 and Xbox One, but the big bombshell is that the game will also be heading to the Nintendo Switch the same day as the other 2!

This is big news as there hasn’t been a Rockstar game on a Nintendo system since 2009’s Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for Nintendo DS.  Aside from that, they also announced L.A. Noire The VR Case Files for the HTC Vive. Are you excited to play L.A. Noire wherever you go? Do you want to see the series make a comeback? Tell us in the comments below!

In the last 3 years, Jackbox Games have established themselves as the kings of the party game genre.

Their yearly Jackbox Party Pack installments never fail to excite people, and now they’ve blown the lid off of the newest entry in the series, The Jackbox Party Pack 4!  This time around there are more than just 5 games. That’s right! They’ve added not 5, or 6, or 7, BUT 5 1/2 games (amazing right?) What are these games though? Let’s find out.

Fibbage 3 (Ft. Fibbage: Enough About You)

As the only returning game, Fibbage 3 is more of the same Fibbage goodness that you got to experience in the first 2 packs, but with 2 new features. The first is the audience’s once-again expanded role, as they now get to choose an extra decoy lie for each question. The second big feature is the mythical half game mentioned above: Fibbage: Enough About You. As a part of Fibbage 3, Enough About You has the players finding out truths about themselves and their friends. Is one of your friend’s favorite movies Citizen Kane, or Norm of the North?

Survive The Internet

The Internet can be a dangerous place and Jackbox Games know that. This game is all about taking the answers that your friends and other players answer with and twisting them into something horrifying. One minute you could be saying that you don’t care much for politics, and the next minute that quote is being used as a stance on not caring about Orphans in a burning building. This game is all about being the worst possible person you can be, and loving every moment of it.

Monster Seeking Monster

Is your love life empty? Are you also secretly a monster? Then come on down! Monster Seeking Monster is the next game in the Party Pack and utilizes your phone differently than most of the Party Pack games. This time you’re sending text messages to the people you want to date. The point of the game is to go on as many dates as you can in 6 nights without being rejected. The person with the most hearts after 6 nights is the winner! The audience can also get in on the fun as they can date and win as well! Did I also mention that since everyone is secretly a monster in disguise you also get super powers? So what are you waiting for? Test your luck with these groovy ghoulies!

Civic Doodle

What would a Jackbox game be without an obligatory drawing game!? Civic Doodle is the next title that will be painting the town in this category. You and 7 other friends are volunteers as part of an initiative to make your town Doodle Valley better. Players will go head to head as they try and finish incomplete drawings given to them. Audience members and other players can also live to react to the pictures using emojis that give surprise bonuses at the end of each drawing. Is that half finished bump a butt or a pair of rabbit ears? It’s all up to you and your imagination!

Bracketeering

The last game to grace our presence this time around is a game embodying the spirit of Quplash. Bracketeering can be played with up to 16 players and is all about giving the most heated and dedicated arguments about some of the stupidest things ever (like most message boards and forums). Are Deep Fried Snickers really better than Deep Fried Sour Skittles? There’s only one way to find out.

All new memories and laughs are to be had with The Jackbox Party Pack 4. No solid release date or platforms have been pegged yet, but Jackbox Games promises a release this fall.

This morning’s Nintendo Nindie Showcase was a sight to see.

So many talented developers bringing some of the weirdest and coolest games to the Switch is something exciting both Nintendo and fans themselves. One of the stand-out developers doing an amazing job at this is Inti Creates. From Blaster Master Zero to Mighty Gunvolt Burst (and the soon to be released Azure Striker Gunvolt Collection on Switch.), they’ve been doing an absolutely fantastic job delivering some short, but fun Switch experiences. Their new game is a bit different though. Meet Dragon: Marked For Death, a 4 player co-op action game that you can play locally with friends, or online with strangers.

Worried about the project? Don’t be! If you’re a fan of the stellar Megaman Zero series or Megaman’s 9 & 10, rest easy. Ryota Itoi, director of the previously stated games is helming this new project. On top of that, it’s very exciting to see a 4 player couch co-op action game being released in this day and age. Reminds me of the stellar arcade co-op beat em ups that Konami made. The game is set to release sometime this Winter as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, with more info coming in the near future.

Back in January people went nuts when it was announced that Goichi Suda (Suda51) was working on a brand new game for Nintendo Switch starring No More Heroes character Travis Touchdown.

He stated that it would not be a traditional NMH game, but instead, a collaboration between him and smaller indie creators. Not much else was said afterward. Flash-forward to Nintendo’s special Nindie Showcase this morning and we finally have a concept trailer with a bit more understanding of what to expect from Suda’s brilliant and insane mind. Taking place 7 years after NMH, Travis Strikes Back starts with The Batt confronting Travis about the death of his daughter Bad Girl. The 2 fight it out but eventually get impaled by a phantom game console, and now must try and make it out of the cursed console alive.

As stated before, the games inside the console were created with collaborations from other popular indie devs, the first of them being the people behind Hotline Miami. Also to note, the game will be running the latest Unreal Engine. Not much else was shown beyond the trailer, but hopefully, we find out more about the collaborations going on with the game. The game is scheduled to release as a Nintendo Switch exclusive sometime next year. Check out the trailer below and get hyped!

Out of all of Netflix’s original shows, BoJack Horseman has to be one of their most interesting original series to date.

While at first coming off as just weird and filled with shock humor, quickly evolves into a deep commentary about Hollywood and celebrity culture at large.  Season 4 looks to be expanding on what it built in Season 3 as we see a worried Diane trying to contact an off the grid BoJack after being gone for over 3 months. While the trailer does drop hints of what we can expect out of the new season, it’s really impossible to know what’s going to happen. BoJack is a series constantly throwing curveballs. Check out the trailer below and get ready for your yearly dose of depression! BoJack Horseman Season 4 will premiere on Netflix September 8th.
