19 Years ago Pokemon USA, along with help from 4Kids Entertainment, unleashed the English dub of Japan’s ever-popular Pocket Monsters Anime in North America, and almost 20 years later the original series is still being watched by millions of kids and adults alike.

This new Blu-ray release thanks to the help of Viz Media, is a wonderful way of returning to the first 52 episodes of the much-beloved series and dub.  Let’s jump right into things. This release is a 6 disc set containing 9 episodes each. Every episode is now watchable in 1080p HD making them look better than ever. Having just recently binged through the original series, the restoration done for this set is beautiful. The hand-painted backgrounds still maintain their original look, but look way sharper and clearer, making this one of the best ways to watch the original series.

The presentation is very nice. The box containing the Blu-ray itself is very nice to look at. The outer casing is shaped like a Pokedex, although opening up still reveals a bulky, but nice looking light blue case. Each disc has its own attract menu showing snippets of which episodes are contained on it. All the episodes also contain their original bumpers from when they first aired on TV. It’s a little touch, but seeing those we’ll be right back bumpers and the 4Kids logo during the credits brings back a strange sense of warm nostalgia. Also, yes, the Pokerap is still there for your viewing pleasure. Speaking of the Pokerap, it was a great addition to get the full U.S and U.K versions of the rap as a special feature.

Now if this just came with Season 1 restoration of Indigo League, it’d already make for a fun package, but Viz added a couple of other treats to this package; alongside the 6 disc set, the package also comes with the first 4 chapters of the ever popular Pokemon Adventures Manga, as well as a cookbook recipe for Sweet Potato Pikachu. Aside from those 2 additions, the real special features included on the disc are a bit of a disappointment.  On top of the 2 different versions of the Pokerap, each disc comes with a small Who’s That Pokemon Slideshow containing at least 3 Pokemon per disc. It’s nothing exciting and is pretty bare bones. If they really want to attach some cool Special Features, it’d be great to see the aired once and never again episode Beauty and the Beach. Cast interviews with the original voices could also be a fun addition.

At the end of the day, Pokemon Season 1 Champion’s Edition is a great buy for Pokefans old and new. These episodes look better than ever thanks to digital restoration, and having the original dub and bumpers together will make this set even more special if you grew up watching the series during its original airing. This collection runs from around $45-$70, so it’s definitely worth the pickup.

FINAL SCORE: ★★★★☆

The anime One-Punch Man was released on DVD and Blu-Ray recently, and I was given the chance to experience the show by way of the Blu-Ray/DVD combo set. I know that the series has many, many fans, but unfortunately, I am not one of them. I can see that the show has its merits, but it just didn’t grab me. I must not be the target audience or something.

The premise of One-Punch Man is promising enough. It follows the trials of Saitama, a man who became a hero for fun. After taking on a special training regimen, he became so strong that he could defeat any foe with a single hit.

The show has a wealth of fight scenes and thankfully, they are well-animated. Unfortunately, outside of those scenes, the show was moderately plain. One-Punch Man is billed as an action/comedy, but the humor just falls flat despite the majority of the show attempting to prove it can get laughs. While it might just be a case of the humor being lost in translation, plenty of the jokes are visual, so I don’t think that is it.

In my opinion, the show had a case of confused identity. I think if it focused solely on the action aspect, I would have liked it a whole lot more. The constant switching between serious and comedic tones was not only jarring but also after a while, a bit annoying.

I am sorry to say that in my book, One-Punch Man gets a 1 out of 5. I understand that despite my dislike for this series, it is much beloved by fans all around the world. I don’t know what I am not seeing that others found enjoyable.

Speaking of fans, the California-based punk rock band, Guns of Eden, liked the show so much that they created a musical tribute to it. You can view it below.

It is no secret that I am crazy about Sailor Moon Crystal. The anime earned a 5 out of 5 in my review of VIZ Media‘s Blu-Ray and DVD set of Season One. Now it is Season Two’s turn to head to retail and as we saw in the recently announced One-Punch Man home media releases, there are multiple options available.

Fans can purchase the Limited Edition Blu-Ray and DVD Combo Pack ($79.99), the Standard Edition Blu-Ray and DVD Combo Pack ($69.99), or simply the DVD Set ($39.99). The Limited Edition Blu-Ray and DVD Combo Pack, seen below, contains all 12 episodes of Season Two on both Blu-Ray (in 1080p) and DVD (in 480p) as well as bonus content like clean opening and closing themes, a digital art gallery, and even a special interview with the J-POP group who sang the theme, Momoiro Clover Z. The four discs are packaged in an exclusive chipboard box, stuffed with art cards and a booklet filled with full-color illustrations, episode summaries, and more. Pre-ordering the Limited Edition Combo Pack from RightStuf also scores you an exclusive sun catcher as a gift-with-purchase.

For those who need a refresher, Season Two of Sailor Moon Crystal takes us through the “Black Moon Arc,” where we meet key characters like Chibi-Usa (you may remember her as “Rini” from that dub way back in the day) and Sailor Pluto. The season picks up immediately after the first season, in which a strange, little pink-haired girl crash-lands on Usagi and then proceeds to demand (at gunpoint!) that she surrender the Silver Crystal. I won’t spoil the rest for fans who haven’t watched yet (I am sure there are some of you) but I will say that I am personally excited to own this second season and it is definitely one you should check out.

The Standard DVD Set is available now but the other two, the Limited- and Standard-Edition Blu-ray and DVD Combo Packs, will be released on February 28.

The popular action-comedy anime One-Punch Man will see its North American home release debut this Spring, courtesy of VIZ Media. The series follows the trials of Saitama, a superhero hopeful whose years of special training left him so overpowered that a single punch knocks any who oppose him flat on their behinds! Check out the trailer below to get a taste of the action (and humor).

This release will be available as a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack ($59.99), a Standard Edition Blu-Ray set ($49.99), and a Standard Edition DVD-only set ($39.99). The combo pack is a special edition that also includes an exclusive chipboard box, six OVA animated shorts (also available on the Standard Edition Blu-Ray set), six art cards, and a full-color booklet with episode summaries, character profiles, interviews with the team, and more. And of course, Blu-Ray episodes are presented in 1080p HD (DVD ones are 480p). Regardless of which set you choose, it will contain episodes 1-12 of the series, available both in original Japanese dialogue with English subtitles as well as English dialogue.

The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is limited in edition and available for pre-order now at many retail sites as well as brick and mortar locations. But if you choose to place your order through Right Stuf, you will also receive a special, yet-to-be-revealed gift with purchase (while supplies last). The other two versions are likewise currently available for pre-order at the same places. All are scheduled to release on April 25.

News has been quiet on the future of the anime reboot, Sailor Moon Crystal, since the end of the third season six months ago. Well, the silence has finally been broken with the news of a sequel (presumably the next season). As many a Sailor Moon fan will tell you (goodness knows I do whenever the topic arises), season four a.k.a. the Dream Arc diverges a great deal in focus and plot between the original anime and the manga. Here’s hoping that, like the first season of Sailor Moon Crystal, this new season will continue to follow the manga’s storyline. More information was promised to be provided at a later date.

In addition to the Sailor Moon Crystal news, it was also revealed that two 23-episode compilations from the original Sailor Moon anime will be released on Blu-Ray in Japan on June 14 and August 9. Each disc will cost ¥21,384.

After a brief hiatus Nostalgia Nightmare is back!

This week we will be discussing the Blu-Ray release of 1973’s Ssssss, a movie that if nothing else has an infamously terrible (but still kinda awesome) title.

The movie tells of a Mad Scientist who is slowly transforming his lab assistant into a snake. He’s doing this because he believes that humanity is doomed to die, but believes that if he can turn everyone into reptiles we’ll be able to survive the end of the world.

This is not a good movie, like at all. That doesn’t matter though, because this isn’t a movie that’s trying  to be good. It knows its premise is ridiculous but tries to act important by pretending it has something to say, it actually becomes entertaining in its badness.

The special effects are fairly forgettable (minus one sequence involving the ‘Snakeboy’ at a circus) but Scream Factory’s transfer allows the movie to look like it’s a masterpiece. It’s definitely fun to see at least once but let’s be honest… if you’re collecting horror movies, you’ll want a movie called Sssssss in your DVD collection.

Pick up your copy today at Scream Factory. Also out this week is the special edition Blu-Ray of Death Becomes Her.

It seems as though late 90’s teen slashers are the new hot topic over at Scream Factory, as this month they’re releasing not one but two forgotten gems of the genre.

Today they have released Disturbing Behavior on Blu-Ray. While far from my favorite of these slasher films, there’s still a few things to love in this movie –  specifically anything involving the two stoner characters.

DisturbingBehaviour

The movie is a pseudo remake of a Canadian film called Strange Behavior which I’d go ape-shit over if it was released on Blu-Ray by Scream Factory. Both films follow a small town where any students who are “free thinkers” are slowly transformed into ‘good kids’.

These good kids however tend to have weird laser eyes and slight murderous tendencies. The movie is fun but far from good. However the Blu-Ray is packed with enough fun additions (including a great commentary track) to make this worth adding to your movie collection.

However the better purchase is coming out next week with the release of the criminally underrated Cherry Falls.

CherryFalls

Cherry Falls is a slasher film and a parody of a slasher film at once. It’s very similar to Scream in that sense.

The movie plays off the trope about having sex. In this movie instead of the killer attacking you for having sex, you get slashed for not having sex. When news spreads that the killer is only targeting virgins a group of high school students organize a pop-your-cherry party to save their own lives.

The film is funny, witty and packed full of great scares and laughs. I stumbled upon this once on TV and remembered enjoying it but thanks to Scream Factory you can enjoy every amazing moment of this film. Just like Disturbing Behavior it is packed with some great special features (including commentary, behind the scenes footage and even a copy of the original screenplay).

It’s absolutely a must-have for any serious horror fan.

Cherry Falls is now available for pre-order as well as the double feature release of “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” and “The Dunwich Horror”. Both films are available on March 29th.

DC and Teen Titans fans should be happy today.

This morning, website TV Insider has reported that there is a brand new Teen Titans animated feature in the works. Launching sometime this spring, Justice League Vs. Teen Titans is about Robin being sent off to work with the titans after his unruly behavior causes the league a failed mission. While the cast from the original 2003 will not be reprising their roles, that’s no reason not to watch this since the new talent is looking to be top notch.  Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) is set to play Trigon, while Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) is set to play Raven. For more info on casting (including a picture of Jon Bernthal recording his lines), check out the original article. Are you excited for a new action filled Teen Titans movie? It’s giveaway time!

We wanted to start Geekscape’s new year off with a bang, and what better way to do that than partnering with pals at Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to give away Blu-Rays of a few of the hottest horror titles of 2015?

That’s right! One luck winner will receive Blu-Ray versions of M. Night Shyamalan’s return to form, The Visit, Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno, and Ciaran Foy’s surprising sequel, Sinister 2.

Entering the giveaway couldn’t be easier (more on that below), but first, you should probably make sure that you can even handle this giveaway. All three of these films are absolutely terrifying, and The Green Inferno features some of the most brutal gore I’ve seen this side of Hostel (fittingly, seeing as they’re both Eli Roth films).

Learn a little bit about each film below, and keep reading in order to enter!

Sinister 2

In the aftermath of the shocking events of Sinister, a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of Wayward Pines) and her nine-year-old twin sons (real-life brothers Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves marked for death in a rural house as the evil spirit of Bughuul continues to spread with frightening intensity.

The Green Inferno

New York college student Justine (Lorenza Izzo) meets student activist Alejandro (Ariel Levy) when he goes on a hunger strike on behalf of underpaid janitors. Smitten, she agrees to help Alejandro undertake his next project: rescuing an Amazon village from destruction by a greedy multinational corporation. But Justine soon comes to regret her decision when their plane crashes in the Peruvian jungle and the students realize they are not alone. No good deed goes unpunished as the well-meaning students are captured by the cannibalistic tribe they came to save.

The Visit

When Becca and Tyler are sent to their grandparents’ secluded Pennsylvania farmhouse for a weeklong stay, they quickly discover something is not right with the elderly couple. Faced with strange rules and increasingly frightening behavior, the children soon realize it will take all their wits to make it home alive. Critics rave the latest heart-pounding thriller from the director of The Sixth Sense and Signs and the producer of Paranormal Activity and The Purge is a “deliciously creepy triumph.” (Scott Mendelson, Forbes.com)

Whoa. On Tuesday, December 8th Marvel teams up with Amazon on an exclusive offering to knock your Captain America socks clean off! The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two collection drops only on Amazon with all new bonus content, film replicas and more. In addition, each film features custom disc sleeves from artist Matt Ferguson.

Geekscape got a sneak peek at these alternate covers to share with you—and they’re freaking awesome. Go ahead feast your eyes and start squirreling away your pennies!

This collection is not messing around—it doesn’t seem like this is going to be the “pretty good one,” only to be replaced next year by the “super awesome edition.” This collection already has all the goods I look for in my film collecting proclivities—and then a little more! I ended up buying a 3D TV several Black Fridays ago when it was the same price as the standard model and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. As a result, if a movie I want comes out on Blu-ray and there’s a 3D version—that’s the one I buy. That and so much more is already baked into this collection! In their own words:

The limited edition, 13-Disc Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection invites you to hold the greatest power in the cosmos in your grasp – an orb containing one of the legendary Infinity Stones! Plus Blu-ray 3D™, Blu-ray™ and Digital Copies of all Phase 2 films, in collectible packaging designed by artist Matt Ferguson. This set overflows with stunning Marvel memorabilia, including a gold-foiled page from the book of Dark Elves, an ancient drawing from the Morag vault, Avengers and S.T.R.I.K.E. uniform patches, a replica of the Tony Stark Tattoo from Marvel’s Iron Man 3, and much more!

I mean, come on!—there’s a freakin’ ancient drawing from the Morag vault! What more can you possibly ask for?!

Personally, there were some moments I didn’t fully connect with in this film collection—but honestly, I take the blame on those for the time being. Maybe I was in the wrong mood when I saw them or something—planning to give Iron Man 3Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron further viewings before making my final call on them. (Especially after getting a better understanding of what went into this intricate web Marvel is weaving as best they can during this release event.) However, here’s the thing—even if every film isn’t up to the snuff of say, Guardians of the Galaxy, they’re still better than most other offerings in their genre; meaning—you can’t lose, even if you lose, with these films. You will be properly entertained come hell or high water!

This unveiling comes properly on the heels of the release of the premiere trailer for the first film in Phase Three, Captain America: Civil War, this week. Whoowhee!—that trailer’s some dramatic adrenaline right there.

And now, my lovelies, because these are just the sort of details I hunt down when considering investing in a collection to add to my. . . collection, here are all the technical details they’ve provided us at this time:

Briefly: Fans and critics everywhere were obnoxiously divided over Avengers: Age of Ultron when it hit theatres earlier this year. As always, many fans ate up and became infatuated with every single frame of the entirely too long Summer blockbuster, while others found the film messy and unfocussed.

Regardless of which side of Ultron‘s fence you sit on, Marvel has officially released the gag reel to be included with this week’s Blu-Ray release, and it’s better than the damed movie.

It also features way more dancing than you’d expect.

You can take a look at the reel below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Avengers: Age of Ultron hits Blu-Ray this Friday, October 2nd!

Jonathan (and I) also had an opportunity to chat with the cast before the film hit theatres, so you should probably head here and check that out too.

The Sentinel is one of the better releases in Scream Factory history. This isn’t a diss to Scream Factory. I love the fact that because of them I owe schlocky gold like Motel Hell and Shocker. If not for Scream Factory my life wouldn’t have Phantom of the Paradise in it, that alone is enough reason for me to feel I owe my entire existence to the Scream Factory Gods.

vz1wSDF

What I mean is that The Sentinel is art. It’s this little rarely talked about gem that should be looked at through the same lens as classics like Rosemary’s Baby and The Shining. Yet we never talk about it.

The Sentinel is a classic horror filled with beautiful cinematograhy, freaky practical effects, a great twist ending and fantastic acting. The final sequence is genuinely freaky and super effective.

The film follows Alison Parker who rents a brownstone house divided into apartments. While there weird things begin to occur with the various “neighbors”. It’s not long before she begins realizing something weird is occurring in the house.

the-sentinel-1977

This little film has an impressive cast including Chris Sarandon, Burgess Meredith, Christopher Walken and Jeff Goldblum (just to name a few). The transfer from Scream Factory just makes the movie ever more beautiful.

If you’ve never seen the Sentinel there’s no better time than now. This Blu-Ray also contains two commentary tracks as well as an interview with assistant director Ralph S. Singleton. Pick up your copy today.

For those who have seen Tomorrowland, you’ll find that this trailer strikes right at the heart of the film. For those of you who missed out, well, you’ll get to see a different side to what Tomorrowland was all about.

Tomorrowland was a different kind of movie that obviously didn’t sit well with everyone. I know it, and Disney obviously knows it too. Take a look at their press release below:

While industry competitors at the Walt Disney Studios had hoped to curb the apocalyptic trend started by the 1984 groundbreaking classic ToxiCosmos, their big-budget, hopelessly optimistic attempt from Director Brad Bird, Tomorrowland, was met with box office indifference from a public that very firmly knows what it wants. Now, after more than a decade absence, the ToxiCosmos franchise returns.

Tomorrowland releases on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digitally October 13!

With the release of Star Wars: Rebels season one on blu-ray (yes, and DVD for those trapped in the previous decades), now you can make every day of the year #ForceFriday!

After getting the generous opportunity to preview the disks and dive deep into the extras, I’m finally prepared to confidently provide you with what you can expect. Here’s the quick and dirty: Firstly, if you’re a Star Wars fan, anywhere within six years of the age 12, this show is bulletproof! I would’ve sold my grandmother to Tusken raiders at that age to have a show like this! I settled for re-watching The Empire Strikes Back after school each day—which wasn’t bad. The next question is; how does it stand up for everyone else? Not bad. . . Believe it or not, the characters and dialogue is often better than the three recent Star Wars prequel films. It also does a far better job of introducing cute and/or fun alien creatures that play a part in the storyline without giving you that creepy Jar Jar effect. I still can’t get enough of these Loth-cats!—I want one! So, for adult Star Wars fans, I’d say it scratches that Star Wars entertainment itch but you’ll still be hungry for more—after all, this show is clearly geared toward kids.

Full disclosure; this is really the first non-feature film Star Wars entertainment I’ve gotten into—with like three exceptions: that ’80’s Christmas special (the main reason I got gun-shy about straying from the films), The Empire Strikes Back game for Super Nintendo (loved it!) and Captain EO in 3D at Disneyland (magical—and probably the closest comparison I can make, entertainmentwise, to Rebels; minus the music, dancing and Michael). So I can’t draw comparisons for you with Clone Wars, except to say that I’d now like to see Clone Wars.

StarWarsRebels_Loth-cat01_400x330For those that are new to the series—like me—it’s the story of a teenage punk, Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray), who’s scrounging and pilfering from the powerful Empire—now that they have taken control of his home planet—when he runs into a band of outlaws doing the same thing but with a more “Robin Hood”-style agenda of aiding those under the boot heel of the Empire. It isn’t long before it’s revealed that one of these outlaws, Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze, Jr.), was training with the Jedi until they were all hunted down by the Empire and he escaped into the underground. When he recognises that “the force is strong” with our young protagonist, he feels it’s his duty to take the kid on as his padawan and train him in the ways of the force, even though he never finished the Jedi training himself(?). Many adventures ensue and the season-long story arc results in the first event that is the official formation of the Rebel Alliance.

Vanessa Marshall, Tiya Sircar, Steven Blum, Ashley Eckstein and Jason Isaacs (excellent as the Inquisitor) round out the voiceover cast, turning in some really good performances.  The character animation is likewise impressive—several times I found myself reviewing a shot or scene just to examine the excellent, and sometimes subtle, motion choices. (That said, I was surprised to find a few half-baked herky-jerky walk-cycles.) When it comes to the modeling, lighting and texture mapping, I understand much of it is done for style but I think a little more detail would’ve been fitting. It would’ve been nice to see shapes and surfaces with a little more character and lighting with a bit more range (when you’re in space, I’m sure some shadows would be fully dark and direct sunlight might wash things out a bit more). Atmospheric effects cost rendering time/money, so I won’t hold the lack of such visuals against them. . . but if they ever have the budget, it really could push the visual style over the top.

As an adult, for the first few episodes, the experience was a bit like being invited to a Thanksgiving dinner and being served Tofurky with a smile—you just sort of grin and bear it while trying to connect with what the real thing tastes like. Then, with the episode 5 (on the disks), “Rise of the Old Masters”, things suddenly seem to click into place and Rebels becomes its own distinct story. Characters, dialogue and relationships gel and become compelling on their own without the need of Star Wars features’ memories to fuel them. That said, there are some truly excellent cameos that were well worth the price of admission—including one Mr. Lando Calrissian in a revealing encounter that was a fun enrichment of my connection with the Star Wars universe.

StarWarsRebelsSeasonOneBluray_600x729If you’re an adult, chances are that you won’t find the dialogue or character arcs particularly compelling but you will get a satisfying sense of a fuller experience with the Star Wars galaxy as it continues to become more colorfully defined. If you’re physically or mentally anywhere near the age of 12, this is an absolute must-have! The character development and challenges faced are tailored to opening up the world of a young mind. For the older, more jaded and cynical brains, the connections may form around the unfortunate recognition of the tyrannical bureaucracy of the Empire and the vague memory of adolescent dreams where anything was possible. Either way, Rebels finds its way under your skin in a pleasant way. Kids will love it for years on end—adults will find it very pleasant and enjoy confidently re-gifting it to a niece or nephew. (If you’re a parent, I think you’ll both feel like winners.)

The extras are a lot of fun—shorts that inform references and sequences in the episodes; behind the scenes interviews with artists, writers and actors; summaries; overviews and excellent teases of what’s to come in the next season (lots of action, development and more fantastic appearances of vital Star Wars characters!).

Recommendations: If you’re within spitting distance of age 12, convince your parents, guardian or doting uncle/aunt/grandparent to get it for you—loads of fun. If you’re an adult Star Wars fan, find a kid in your family/neighborhood that you can sit and watch it with as an excuse to pick up this fun show.

Now that I’ve seen this, I’m looking forward this fall to season two of Star Wars: Rebels and looking forward to spending more time with my nephews as I head out to pick up Star Wars: The Clone Wars for us to watch together. That Christmas special from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away has finally been cleansed from my palate.

From Lucasfilm/Disney:

In the first groundbreaking season of Star Wars Rebels, young hero Ezra Bridger joins the clever but motley crew of the starship Ghost in their resistance against the Empire. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. Ezra and his new rebel friends — Hera, Kanan, Sabine, Zeb and Chopper — embark on daring adventures in their fight against oppression across the galaxy, receiving help from familiar heroes such as Lando Calrissian, Ahsoka Tano, and Jedi Master Yoda. Pursued relentlessly by the Imperials and a Jedi hunter called the Inquisitor, this tenacious ragtag band of rebels will find itself in the crosshairs of none other than Darth Vader when season one closes in a shocking two-part finale.

Bonus Features:

Blu-ray:

  • Rebels Infiltrates Star Wars Celebration (Exclusive to Blu-ray)
  • Season One shorts: “The Machine in the Ghost,” “Art Attack,” “Entanglement,” “Property of Ezra Bridger”
  • All DVD Bonus (see below)

DVD:

  • Rebels Recon: 14 behind-the-scenes featurettes
  • Star Wars Rebels – The Ultimate Guide
  • Star Wars Rebels Season 2 – A Look Ahead

Marvel Studios has announced the official home release dates for Avengers: Age of Ultron. The official arrival on Digital 3D, Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere is September 8th and on 3D Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital SD and On-Demand is October 2nd. Which begs the obvious question; is anyone still buying the old DVD format? If that’s still being made available by studios, why not shove a VHS in there too? Oh, wait. . . it would actually be pretty cool if they made movies available on Super 8 reels or something! I swear I would run out and buy one of those projectors if that was an option!

Okay, I’m getting off track—back to Avengers: The iconic heroes are forced to reassemble and face their most intimidating enemy yet—Ultron. The home entertainment release includes Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes, Making-of Featurettes, Gag Reel and more.

Another solid success for Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios.

I had a good time seeing this in the theater. I’m a fan of 3D—have it at home—this chapter used it well and so I’ll be adding this to my library of 3D titles. Personally, I had zero disappointment with this addition to the Marvel universe there was just a hint of “wanting” that I left the theater with—however, since I can’t exactly put my finger on what that was I let it slide. I think I’ll have a good time trying to figure it out as I watch this over and over again at home.

I enjoyed this film’s character dives into the psyches of Hawkeye, Black Widow and Dr. Banner. The elaborate battle scenes were something that I was already expecting from the film to begin with, all the flash and spectacle of the incredible effects—if they weren’t there, I would’ve been very disappointed—so it was nice to get the treat of seeing more of what made these characters tick. As was the case with Iron Man 2, I don’t know if they’ve yet found a way to portray brooding Tony Stark engagingly. It was a tight rope walk to find the way to pull it off with Bruce Banner—which has now been nailed, as far as I’m concerned—but Tony still needs some work in that department.

You can check out MCDave’s full review of the film for Geekscape here.

Ooo, trailer time! Enjoy!

It feels so great to be back! Welcome once again to Saint Mort’s Nostalgia Nightmare! This week I’ll be reviewing Scream Factory’s Double Feature release of Cellar Dweller and Catacombs. This will be my first time watching both of these films but I’ve heard good things for both of titles so I’m kind of excited.

Before a single credit comes on the screen we are introduced to Jeffery Combs playing a comic book artists in 1958. Suddenly his comic monster comes to life (along with the comic victim). it immediately reminded me of the Korman’s Kalamity episode of Tales from the Crypt (although the movie pre-dates that episode by a few years). Combs’ role is short lived but he manages to take the cellar dweller down with him. Flash forward to present day (1988) and another animator accidentally brings the Cellar Dweller back endangering herself and her friends.

hqdefault

This movie was a ton of fun to watch. It’s a quick film (a brisk 77 minutes) and fairly funny. The Cellar Dweller looks pretty good as far as low-budget creature effects go and the acting isn’t as bad as you’d expect from such low-budget schlock. The film was written by Don Mancini (one of his few non-child’s play writing credits) and directed by John Carl Buechler who directed such 80’s classics as Troll, Friday the 13th VII: The New Blood and Ghoulies Go to College.

Now on to Catacombs

Catacombs is a little slower. It’s not a bad movie but it’s not a movie for me. However I know a ton of people who would LOVE this movie. It has great sets, fantastic performances and definitely is a film that should be more well-known. I can admit this even without particularly liking the film.

catacombs2sc4.9150

Perhaps the biggest disservice for the film is that I watched it immediately after Cellar Dweller which was the superior film. However Cellar Dweller has no special features, Catacombs comes with a director’s commentary.

Either way this double feature is worth owning because Cellar Dweller was amazing and Catacombs is worth watching at least once.

The Cellar Dweller/Catacombs Blu-ray is available today from Scream Factory. Also released today is the double feature of The Outing/The Godsend and Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf.

Now that Sailor Moon is neck deep in its revival, it’s time to wrap up season one with the final 26 episodes! As the remaining Sailor Guardians are discovered, their quest to find the Moon Princess they’ve been tasked to protect becomes even more urgent, as the Dark Kingdom zeroes in on the seven Rainbow Crystals. Whoever possesses these will obtain an immense power that not only threatens the heroes if they fall into the wrong hands, but may even draw a rift between the team and the mysterious Tuxedo Mask, who is after the crystals for his own ends. As the fight between our heroes and the Dark Kingdom draws to a close, this marks the first time that many of these episodes have been dubbed in their unedited form, serving as a true test as to whether or not the new cast can bring these crushing scenes to life. Now that the credits have rolled and the curtain has closed on the first full season, I’m happy to say that the team has nailed it!

More so than Part 1, which was mostly introductory and filler material, Part 2 takes no time in hurrying the story along, starting with Nephrite’s heartbreaking last stand. In between the introductions of Sailor Jupiter, the guardian of lightning and thunder, and Sailor Venus, the long teased original guardian, the team must fight off their latest threat in Zoisite. Perhaps the cruelest of the Dark Kingdom’s Four Kings, their chase after the reincarnated monsters that hold the Rainbow Crystals takes an unexpected turn when Tuxedo Mask begins claiming the crystals for himself! This struggle eventually leads to some shocking revelations, changing the dynamic between Sailor Moon and her team, with their uneasy allegiance with Tuxedo Mask, and a final battle against Queen Beryl, her right hand in Kunzite, and the ultimate evil in Queen Metalia. One threatens to leave the Sailor Guardians in shambles.

Of course, none of this would come off as great as it sounds if the voice acting didn’t follow through. Yet, whether it was Liam O’Brien’s emotional performance as Nephrite, Mars’ and Jupiter’s actors sounding almost exactly like the original 90’s voices with so much more material to work with, or the rest of the cast leaving their own stamp on such iconic characters, it didn’t take long for me to completely forget that I was listening to a new cast, and become completely absorbed in the world that they were bringing to life. Of course, the true test would come in the final few episodes, which have never aired in English before now without heavy edits. There’s no way that I’m spoiling it here, but if you’re a long time fan, know that these pivotal scenes were performed to near perfection, living up to the enormous task of establishing the emotional tone while completely selling me on Stephanie Sheh’s Usagi/Sailor Moon. Make no mistake about it; she’s the real deal!

YISfvq8

But with all the praise that I’m giving the new content, not all was perfect in the Moon Kingdom. Namely, the animation never felt like I was watching a remastered, high definition version. Considering that the animation is older, this can be mostly forgiven. However, if it wasn’t for the DVD being bundled with the Blu-Ray release, I wouldn’t see any reason to purchase it over the cheaper alternative if you just want the series.

Part of the aim with this new set is to bring a faithful version of the series to Western audiences, sticking to the Japanese version as close as possible. Yet, in the case of the episode titles, our friends in the East have a habit of giving away the plot in both the episode previews and in the titles themselves! I’ve watched these episodes multiple times, but if I was a new viewer, I’d hate to have the surprises ruined for me before I watch. On a side note, the eye catch, (or break between episode halves,) was awkward in Japanese, with its cringe worthy Sailor Moon cry. In English, it feels even more out of place. Personally, I could do without, but this will likely be an issue spanning the entire series since the original cuts keep them around.

As for the episodes themselves, there is still a fair amount of unnecessary content, some of which feels extremely out of character in certain cases. Namely, in Episode 43, the whole concept that the Sailor Guardians would double cross Sailor Moon was absurd, and even though the episode is fun if not taken too seriously, it’s hard to believe that both the Guardians AND the Dark Kingdom would fall for each other’s thinly veiled traps. Some moments are head scratching to say the least.

On that subject, Kunzite gets the short end of the stick in the worst way. Despite being the most powerful and most threatening of the Dark Kingdom, his entire arc consists of nearly all filler content, often feeling like an afterthought compared to not only his subordinates, but the allies he interacts with. Once he finally takes the stage in his only real battle, he’s so easily defeated, that it’s hard to understand why he was so hyped up to begin with. Still, the final moments and everything before were so strong, that it’s easy to forgive these underwhelming moments.

In addition to the main episodes, the set comes with some collectable cards with various artwork, and a series of special features that fully explore the revived Sailor Moon fandom. Including clips of the activities held on Sailor Moon Day at various conventions during the summer, fan interviews discussing their favorite memories of the series, and the full Anime Expo Sailor Moon panel, (much of which we covered as they were happening,) these bonuses served two purposes from what I can see. One, they helped people like me relive such a great time for longtime fans who were finally rewarded for their patience with this revival. Two, it allowed those who couldn’t make it to enjoy the festivities like those who were in attendance did! Outside of these sections, the standard clean opening and endings, trailers, and art galleries round out the extra content, all of which is worth a watch!

Cards

All in all, watching the first season has made me so excited for what the rest of the series will deliver. With so much never before released content in the West on the way, this will be a long term commitment, one that seems like it will be worth taking. Season One Part Two has set the bar high in terms of vocal quality, which has been boosted by the (mostly,) excellent story that it was framed around, and despite the dated visual quality, it delivers in almost every other way. Obviously, you might want to start with Part One, since this set starts at the end of a running storyline, but most of the most important developments are housed in Part Two, making it so much better for it. Plus, this set will fit nicely in that Part One Box Set with the gaping hole in the side! Whether you’re a new fan, or a longtime Moonie who still believes in the Guardians of Love and Justice, you can’t go wrong with this set!

This week on Saint Mort’s Nostalgia Nightmare Matt watches and reviews Scream Factory’s Blu-Ray release of Exterminators of the Year 3000. It’s a Mad Max Rip-Off done in a way that only Italian cinema could successfully get away with. Let’s watch!

EOTY3000BRCover300dpi_{5c4f1a71-f9a7-e411-8748-d4ae527c3b65}_lg

Before I discuss this movie I have to address the minor elephant in the room about its release. When Scream first announced plans of releasing this it was to be a double feature with Cruel Jaws. When this was first announced I flipped my shit. I literally posted on a ton of websites and forums losing my mind about this. I couldn’t believe I lived in a world where something as mind-glowingly amazing (and terrible) as Cruel Jaws was going to be released on Blu-Ray. For those of you who don’t know, Cruel Jaws is a wanna be Jaws rip-off (sometimes even advertised as Jaws 5) that skipped the whole annoying “building a shark” thing in favor of stealing footage from various Jaws movies and Jaws rip-off films like Great White/The Last Shark. I couldn’t even wrap my head around how Scream Factory was going to legally release it… turns out they couldn’t either. A few days later they announced that due to the multiple pieces of copyright infringement they were just going to release Exterminators of the Year 3000 on a solo Blu-Ray. It hurt… but I’ve learned to live with it.

I would like to take this moment to just say to whoever is reading this from Scream Factory that you can totally make up for this by finding a way to put Great White/The Last Shark on Blu-Ray. Thanks!

So what is Exterminators of the Year 3000? Well take Mad Max and slash the budget down to roughly $500 and you have this incredible piece of Italian cinema. The film takes place in the Year 3000 (as the title suggests). After nuclear war has turned Earth into a massive desert, water is a rare commodity (sounding sorta familiar yet). The film follows Tommy (a young boy with a bionic arm) and a loner (named Alien) as they search for a well while avoiding bikers and Crazy Bull (their blood-thirsty leader).

Exterminators still 2_{fdb13b6c-50bc-e411-bd0b-d4ae527c3b65}_lg

I had no clue what to expect from this movie, if I’m honest I kept putting it off… but within the first 5 minutes I knew I was in for a movie I was genuinely going to enjoy. The film is packed with solid special effects, well done chase sequences, a dark sense of a humor and a boy with a bionic arm. I know I mentioned it once already but I mean, that’s pretty off the wall and amazing.

If you’re like me and enjoy having movie nights with friends filled with beer, pizza and B-movies than you’re in luck. That is 100% what Exterminators of the Year 3000 is.

Exterminators is now available on Scream Factory’s website. The release comes with an interview and a commentary track from actor Robert Iannucci. Also out today is the double feature of Blacula/Scream Blacula Scream

This week for Saint Mort’s Nostalgia Nightmare we’re going to be discussing New Year’s Evil which is now available on Blu-Ray from our friends at Scream Factory. Let’s see if this one drops the ball or not (ZING!)

I love Slasher films. LOVE them. Scream was my first major introduction to horror movies and turned me into someone who NEEDED to feed on horror movie content. I’ve made it a goal to see as many slasher films as possible and even own an unreasonably large amount of documentaries and text books on the subject.

91-44gDMPHL._SX425_

New Year’s Evil managed to avoid my sights for years. I didn’t even know it existed until it was briefly mentioned in Going To Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film (a must have for any serious horror fan). It wasn’t until last year I finally got to see it when it was briefly on Netflix Instant watch. I really wasn’t blown away by it, but at the time I watched it I was also in the middle of moving into my house so I had it on but I didn’t have my full attention on it.

This time I did all the chores I needed to have done, turned off the phone and really focused on the film. It is still one of the lesser 80’s slasher films, but it is however not a terrible movie.

The plot centers around Diane (aka Blaze), a TV personality hosting a televised New Years Eve Punk Rawk party. While taking callers on the air she begins talking to a man going by the name Evil. Evil threatens to kill a “Naughty Girl” she loves every time it strikes midnight in a different time zone. The cops are reluctant to take the threats seriously, assuming it’s a dark prank from the creepy crowd her shows tend to draw in. After each murder he calls back in and plays the recording of the murder over the air.

1424619919_5

The film is unique as we know what Evil looks like within roughly 20 minutes of the movie. It’s not so much a mysterious whodunnit as much as it’s a WhoIsItAndWhy? The movie does contain some clever editing, some enjoyably cheesy music (specifically it’s theme song and the song Dumb Blondes), a cool mask for the killer to wear and a fairly unique premise. Even by 1980 the slasher film had already established itself as the “unknown, masked killer stalking high school girls from the trees”. This took a slightly more suspenseful twist which is interesting at least.

The biggest problem with the movie is how overwhelmingly mediocre it is. It’ll never be a movie good enough to recommend to a friend, or bad enough to watch with a group of friends. Dread Central’s Matt Serafini’s review reference to it as an ideal “late night horror fix” and I think that’s exactly the way to watch it. This would be a fun movie to have randomly discovered on USA in the 90’s.

Now as you’ve probably figured out I’m a Scream Factory fanboy. Even if I wasn’t being asked to review movies for them I’d still be a fanboy. I don’t think anyone at Scream Factory thinks that this is a masterpiece of slasher cinema but they still celebrate it as if it were by throwing in a new commentary track and a new collection of interviews with some of creators and stars behind the film.

http://youtu.be/euuX0aGvZ2o

While I’m not the biggest fan of New Year’s Evil, it’s still an interesting definitely worth watching if you’re a horror fan. Scream Factory has really put out a handful of other good (but painfully underrated slashers) like Terror Train, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, The Burning and Sleepaway Camp.

Welcome Back to Saint Mort’s Nostalgia Nightmare. Glad to see you enjoyed it enough last week to revisit. Continuing in my Scream Factory Blu-Ray reviews I’ve got another double feature. Today you can own their double feature release of Vampire’s Kiss and High Spirits. Let’s dive in!

VK-HS.BR.Cover.300dpi_{8bc1a187-e695-e411-9d31-d4ae527c3b65}

Not only have I never seen either of these films prior to this Blu-Ray appearing on my doorstep, I’ve never even heard of one of them. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it. Over the course of 5 hours I watched Vampire’s Kiss twice (once normally and once with commentary) and High Spirits.

Let’s start with Vampire’s Kiss. I’d heard many things about this movie, specifically that it’s one of the most Cage-iest of Nicholas Cage movies. I was not lied to in the least. The movie is bizarre, confusing, unintentionally funny at parts and a chore to watch at others.

The movie tells the story of Peter Loew, a womanizing literary agent who spends all day in the office and all night at the clubs and having one night stands. One night he takes home a vampire named Rachel who begins feeding on him nightly. Or does he?

Vampire’s Kiss is all about questioning what is reality while following an unhinged businessman that’s wrapped up in all the sleeze, culture and status of the 80s. Basically it’s American Psycho if Nicholas Cage played Patrick Bateman.

It’s got some fantastic moments in it and has notoriety for a infamous still which has become a meme (Scream Factory was smart to include that still on the back of the Blu-Ray). The commentary track between director Robert Bierman and Nicholas Cage is interesting to say the least. The two think highly of the movie and Bierman makes a few references to stylistic choices but then saying things like “I think I did that consciously”.

Vampires Kiss still 8_{e367209a-b8a5-e411-8748-d4ae527c3b65}_lg

If you can get past Cage’s awkward accent choice (he sounds like he’s doing a bad Keanu Reeves impression) and the dark comedic cruelness it’s not a bad film to watch… once. You’ll most likely never watch it again (unless you listen to the commentary track)… the same can’t be said for High Spirits.

I had a lot of fun experiencing High Spirits for the first time. I’m willing to believe that if I saw this movie when I was a child I’d hold it with the same level of nostalgic praise that I hold movies like Monster Squad and The Goonies.

Looking at this cast it’s amazing that I’ve never heard of this film. It’s a fantastic ensemble featuring such infamous actors as Peter O’Toole, Daryl Hannah, Liam Neeson, Jennifer Tilly, Steve Guttenberg and Beverly D’Angelo.

The movie follows Peter Plunkett who’s about to have his castle repossessed. In order to keep his property he tries to claim it’s haunted to scare the Americans that are visting the castle (including the daughter of the man repossessed the castle). When their fake ghost stories are discovered, real ghosts begin haunting the castle including Mary and Martin.

High Spirits still 15_{4f5a74db-bba5-e411-8748-d4ae527c3b65}_lg

Many centuries ago when Mary and Martin were married, Martin murdered Mary for infidelity. Every night the two are forced to re-enact that night. That is until one of the Americans Jack (Guttenberg) stops Martin, putting an end to cycle and causing Mary to fall in love with him.

I hope this film finds a decent resurgence from this Blu-Ray, as it’s a fantastic Halloween movie with ghosts, romance, comedy and a handful of good jump scares.

The most baffling thing about this film is that it’s written and directed by Neil Jordan, a man known for films of more adult nature like The Company of Wolves, The Crying Game and Interview with the Vampire.

Doing research to do these reviews/writeups I can’t understand how Vampire’s Kiss was more critically well received. It’s an interesting film but for very unintentional reasons. High Spirits is a much more enjoyable film overall.

Pick up a copy of the Vampire’s Kiss/High Spirits Blu-ray Today!

Matt Kelly hosts The Saint Mort Show and the Reddit Horror Club as well as writes for Geekscape and his blog Every Damn DVD. He’s also going to spend Valentine’s Day night in the basement watching horror movies while his roommate has sex. He’d love it if you bought him something on his Amazon Wishlist to convince him to take that shotgun barrel out of his mouth.

Continuing their on going track record of keeping horror classics alive Scream Factory has some great titles coming out this March.

unnamed-2For starters on March 3rd the Blaxploitation classic Blacula (and its sequel Scream Blacula Scream) on a double feature DVD and will feature a commentary track from Film Historian David F. Walker (author Reflections on Blaxploitation: Actors and Directors Speak) and a new interview with Richard Lawson of Scream Blacula Scream.

For those of you not familiar with this cult classic it tells the tale of African Prince Mamuwalde (played by the intensely entertaining William Marshall) who visits Count Dracula only to end up being transformed into a vampire. After two centuries of being trapped in his tomb he gets unleashed onto the mean streets of Los Angeles.

The underrated sequel pits the titular vampire against some voodoo power and stars cult favorites Richard Lawson and Pam Grier.

That same day they’re also releasing the Italian Post-Apocalyptic Exploitation Fan Favorite Exterminators of the Year 3000.

unnamed-3

Eagerly awaiting the release of the newest Mad Max movie? Well you can fill some time with this post-apocalyptic future where the earth is a desert and water is the most precious substance of all. A band of survivors turn to a mysterious stranger to battle a ruthless gang of motorcycle psychos for control of the wasteland and the water. A glorious crash of guns, nuclear fallout, and synthesizers make this a must-see for anyone who’s been longing for the day in which they can finally get beyond Thunderdome.

With a commentary track from the director Robert Iannucci makes this film’s blu-ray debut just that extra level of special.

They’ve also announced the upcoming releases of Invaders from Mars, The Babadook and recently they acquired Stigmata.

Keep your eyes open on Geekscape.net for some upcoming reviews for their February releases Phantom of the Opera, The Love at First Bite/Once Bitten double feature as well as the  Vampires Kiss/High Spirits double feature.

Matt Kelly is the host of the Saint Mort Show available on Soundcloud as well as the sole writer of the Every Damn DVD blog.

Last night I was in my living room watching the Scream Factory blu-ray release of Night of the Demons. My roommate wandered downstairs from his bedroom to smoke a cigarette and saw me watching it and snarkily stated “Oh yeah, this definitely deserves to be seen in Hi-Def”.

To this I say to my roommate… yes, yes it does. That’s the magic of Scream Factory (as I’ve said before), they understand horror fans. They know that while most people look at a movie like Final Exam or The Town that Dreaded Sundown they see a poorly made, cheap horror film that a horror fan sees something worthy of the Criterion collection treatment.

That’s why I couldn’t be more existed to read that on February 10th they’ll be releasing such Vampire Rom-Com classics as Love at First Bite and Once Bitten (starring a very young Jim Carrey) as well as High Spirits and Vampire’s Kiss. Even more incredible is that Vampire’s Kiss will include commentary from the eccentric Nicholas Cage. Honestly the only thing missing to make this the ultimate Vampire comedy collection is (my personal favorite) My Best Friend is a Vampire (Dear Scream Factory, I know you’re reading this… make that happen).

unnamed-2

The highlight of their February line up is the Blu-Ray release of New Years Evil on February 24th. This is one of the most bizarre “holiday themed” slasher/thrillers out there. This Scream Factory release is going to come equipped with director’s commentary and a making of featurette.

In other news yesterday Scream Factory announced the release of the amazingly terrible Howling II: My Sister is a Werewolf will be released on Blu-Ray this summer. Today Candyman II: Farewell to Flesh was made available on their website.

It’s been a long time coming. Courtesy of NIS America, the classic Clamp anime, Cardcaptor Sakura, is getting a complete collection release. After over a decade since its network TV debut here in the states, this will be a collection that no anime viewer who remembers waking up in the morning with Kids WB on the screen will want to miss.

Featuring all 70 episodes in both Japanese and English, this set will come in both a standard and premium versions. The premium box is full of all the extras you would expect from an NIS release, which includes a 9 metallic gloss blu-ray disc set, a fully illustrated 76 page hardcover art book featuring new illustrations, and a collectable slipcase to hold all that awesome stuff together. The collection will be available at select online retailers, including Right Stuf, The Anime Corner Store, Anime Pavilion, and NIS America Online Store.

About the show:

Ten-year-old Sakura lives a pretty normal life with her older brother, Toya, and widowed father, Fujitaka. At least she did, until the day she returned home from school to discover a glowing book in her father’s study. After opening the book and releasing the cards within, Sakura is tasked with collecting each of these magical cards, while trying to live the life of a normal fourth grader. In the monumental task of collecting all the cards, Sakura must rely on her friends and family, and decide what she finds most important in life.

I’ve always loved Cardcaptor Sakura, but I never got a chance to watch the whole series. With all of it collected into one box, complete with all these extras, it looks like I finally have my shot. Let us know if you’re planning on picking this up on August 5th when the complete series is released.

The movie is available as a Blu-ray 3D combo pack, a Blu-ray combo pack and a two-disc DVD pack. All three offer the theatrical release of the film (the Blu-ray 3d option offers the theatrical release in 3D) and the Ultraviolet for downloading and streaming the film to various devices.

The blu-ray packs come with numerous special features (a whole separate disc of them, in fact), including a audio commentary by Guillermo Del Toro, the Director’s notebook, a in-depth look at drift space, the digital art of Pacific Rim, focus points, deleted scenes and a blooper reel.

Those who saw the movie in the theaters won’t see anything new when viewing the theatrical release: the film is still a loud, brawling tween boy’s dream, impossibly large monsters bashing against robots who differ from the Transformers only in that they lack the Transformer’s finesse and subtlety. While it certainly doesn’t hold up to a in-depth analysis, it’s fun, with effects and a soundtrack/score that drive the movie forward towards its (predictable) end.

The special features are entertaining and interesting for fans of the film; they are the cherry on top of the sundae–provided you like ice cream.

Pacific Rim is available on Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for $44.95, on Blu-ray Combo Pack for $35.99 and on 2-disc DVD Special Edition for $28.98.

It’s no secret that us at Geekscape are huge fans of the Mega64 Boyz. I personally have been watching their skits and full length episodes for YEARS, and I cannot give them any higher praise. Their humor, delivery and writing are amazing and they always blow me away. Hell, they are the ones who turned me onto The Aquabats!  So when I received an update from YouTube that Mega64 uploaded a new video, I was expecting a new skit. What I got was this awesome trailer for their 10 year anniversary Blu-Ray collection! Watch it with me below!

If you’re a fan of Mega64’s full length episodes that you are probably as excited as I am right now. They’ve been hinting at possible Blu-Ray releases for a few years now, and we finally FINALLY get a doozy of a collection.

No official write up yet as to what specifically we can expect to find in the Blu-Ray set. From the trailer and their Live Stream from tonight, the guys ran down a few of the features.

All three seasons of the Mega 64 show. Versions 1,2, and 3 REMASTERED!

Briefly: The Pacific Rim Blu-Ray is now less than a week away from release (I hope you’re picking it up), and a fantastic blooper reel from the set has leaked online.

It clocks in at a cool four minutes, and certainly does a good job of showing just how fun the production of Pacific Rim was. I really can’t wait to pick up the Blu-Ray and find out what other goodies are in store. It was one of the best moviegoing experiences that I had this year, and I can’t wait to jump back into that world.

Take a look at the reel below, and let us know what you think! The Pacific Rim Blu-Ray hits stores on October 15th!

Looking for more Pacific Rim? Screenwriter Travis Beacham was a guest on the show earlier this Summer!

We’re just weeks away from the return of AMC’s insanely popular drama Breaking Bad, and the fifth season has just released on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Included in the package is a never-before-seen bonus scene titled ‘Chicks n’ Guns’. The clip features Saul Goodman and Jesse Pinkman taking some precautions as their partner’s management of his meth empire spirals out of control, and it finally reveals how Jesse got his hands on some firepower.

The clip is awesome, and is a pretty integral part of the fifth season. I’m unbelievably excited for this show to return, and I can’t even begin to imagine how it ends. Watch how ‘Chicks n’ Guns’ was made below, and let us know if you’re excited!

What are you hoping to see happen in the final eight episodes?

You all know how much we love Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead around these parts (read Jonathan’s review here), and we’re beyond excited to be terrified all over again, but this time, from the comfort of our own homes!

It looks like we won’t have to wait too much longer to relive one of 2013’s scariest films, as IGN has learned that Evil Dead will hit Blu-Ray on July 16th.

Take a gander at the cover art and the special features below, and let us know if you enjoyed the movie!
