You might surprised that Ron Perlman doesn’t want to make Hellboy 3 considering he’s been one of the biggest cheerleaders for the film getting made.  His constant tweeting and rallying for support of the film at conventions such as Comic-con make it even more baffling that he doesn’t actually want to do it.  His reasoning?  Check out the quote from a recent interview Perlman gave after a TCA panel for his Amazon series Hand of God:

“Let me make the record clear,” Perlman said. “I don’t want to do Hellboy 3. It’s a pain in the ass to put that makeup on and take it off. But I feel we’re obligated to finish the story. That’s it. End of conversation.”

At 65, Perlman has every right to groan at the thought of hours and hours of make-up being applied every morning.  He may not have to worry though as both Universal and Columbia have both passed on the project and the director of the first two films in the franchise Guillermo Del Toro has also stated finding financing for the film has been a challenge.

The Hellboy films are solid action flicks in my opinion.  I really enjoyed the action sequences and practicality of the effects in Hellboy 2 but found little joy elsewhere in the film (It should be noted that The Dark Knight came out around this same time and ruined all other movies for me for at least 87 weeks).  I, like Ron, could do without another film in the franchise but would most likely see it if hit the big screen so I can keep my geek card.  Aside from not being a huge fan of the franchise, I would like to see Del Toro tackle more original properties such as Pacific Rim and move forward with his career rather than revert back to what feels like an old fashioned franchise at this point.

Briefly: We’ve heard rumours for what seems like forever, and based on the first film’s performance we weren’t sure that it would ever happen, but Guillermo Del Toro himself has just announced that Pacific Rim 2 is officially in production.

Del Toro is working with The Avengers writer Zak Penn and Pacific Rim creator Travis Beacham on the project, but another film isn’t all that Legendary has in store for us. We’ll also be getting a Pacific Rim animated series, and the comic book series that began with movie tie-in Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero will also continue.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, Del Toro said that “The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”

As a huge fan of the first film, I’d be happy to see anything new from this universe. A new film, an animated series, and a comic book series? I’m on board for everything.

Take a look at Del Toro’s announcement below, and let us know if you’re excited! Pacific Rim 2 will hit theatres on April 7th, 2017.

Briefly: This looks absolutely gorgeous.

Fox has just released the first trailer for The Book of Life, which was produced by Guillermo Del Toro (if you couldn’t tell by the super-Spanish stylings and Ron Perlman’s involvement), directed by first-timer Jorge R. Gutierrez, and stars Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Danny Trejo, Christina Applegate, Ron Perlman, and plenty of others.

The film follows “the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. Before choosing which path to follow, he embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Rich with a fresh take on pop music favourites, The Book of Life encourages us to celebrate the past while looking forward to the future.

The animation here is really beautiful, and we can’t wait to see more. Take a look at the first trailer for The Book of Life below, and let us know what you think! The film hits theatres on October 17th!

Guillermo Del Toro’s summer blockbuster robot vs monsters movie, Pacific Rim, has been released on Blu-Ray/DVD.

pacific-rim-blu-ray-box-art

The movie is available as a Blu-ray 3D combo pack, a Blu-ray combo pack and a two-disc DVD pack. All three offer the theatrical release of the film (the Blu-ray 3d option offers the theatrical release in 3D) and the Ultraviolet for downloading and streaming the film to various devices.

The blu-ray packs come with numerous special features (a whole separate disc of them, in fact), including a audio commentary by Guillermo Del Toro, the Director’s notebook, a in-depth look at drift space, the digital art of Pacific Rim, focus points, deleted scenes and a blooper reel.

Those who saw the movie in the theaters won’t see anything new when viewing the theatrical release: the film is still a loud, brawling tween boy’s dream, impossibly large monsters bashing against robots who differ from the Transformers only in that they lack the Transformer’s finesse and subtlety. While it certainly doesn’t hold up to a in-depth analysis, it’s fun, with effects and a soundtrack/score that drive the movie forward towards its (predictable) end.

The special features are entertaining and interesting for fans of the film; they are the cherry on top of the sundae–provided you like ice cream.

Pacific Rim is available on Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for $44.95, on Blu-ray Combo Pack for $35.99 and on 2-disc DVD Special Edition for $28.98.

Geekscape Score: 3.5/5

Briefly: Screen Junkies Honest Trailers has to be one of my favourite series on YouTube, and now they’ve taken on one of my favourite films of the Summer, Pacific Rim.

It sure points out some (a lot of) glaring issues that the film may have had, but it also points out just how awesome it was.

Take a look at the latest instalment of Honest Trailers below, and let us know what you thought of Pacific Rim!

Briefly: The Pacific Rim Blu-Ray is now less than a week away from release (I hope you’re picking it up), and a fantastic blooper reel from the set has leaked online.

It clocks in at a cool four minutes, and certainly does a good job of showing just how fun the production of Pacific Rim was. I really can’t wait to pick up the Blu-Ray and find out what other goodies are in store. It was one of the best moviegoing experiences that I had this year, and I can’t wait to jump back into that world.

Take a look at the reel below, and let us know what you think! The Pacific Rim Blu-Ray hits stores on October 15th!

Looking for more Pacific Rim? Screenwriter Travis Beacham was a guest on the show earlier this Summer!

Briefly: Now that the Summer movie season is officially over, it’s pretty safe to say that Pacific Rim was one of my most enjoyable moviegoing experiences all year. It may not have broken the box office records that it could have, and it may never get a sequel since apparently nobody saw it, but Pacific Rim was a hell of a lot of fun.

Of course, the film also had some of the best visual effects that I’ve ever seen. I still recall my first time viewing the movie, and at multiple points throughout thinking “how the hell did they make this?” It’s that incredible.

Mirada Studios was in charge of creating the film’s two-minute prologue, and they’ve released a cool new video demonstrating some jarring before and after shots. It’s a fantastic watch for fans of the film or visual effects in general, and I simply had to share! Take a look at the video below, and be sure to let us know what you thought of Pacific Rim!

To excite you for your midnight showing later tonight (you have purchased your tickets, right?), Warner Bros. has just released an awesome new clip for Pacific Rim.

The video, which is nearly three minutes in length, shows a stunning extended look at the Jaeger Gypsy Danger. The clip is made up of a series of long takes, which literally had me saying ‘wow’ at multiple points throughout.

I won’t spoil it for you. This thing is beautiful. Watch the new clip below, and let us know if you’re excited! Pacific Rim hits theatres tonight, and seeing as it’s one of the few original films this Summer, it definitely deserves your cash.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Four. More. Days.

Pacific Rim is finally just around the corner, and Warner Bros. has just debuted a fantastic new behind-the-scenes featurette for the film. A multitude of cast and crew members are interviewed during the video, including Ron Perlman, Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and more.

You must know by now just how excited we are for Pacific Rim. We even had a fantastic opportunity to sit down with Pacific Rim screenwriter Travis Beacham, both on the show, and in a private interviewPacific Rim is set to be one of the surprise hits of the Summer, and if all of the early buzz has been any indication, this is one film that you need to see in the biggest theatre that you possibly can.

Just one more week of waiting until Pacific Rim finally hits theatres, and Warner Bros. has just released another two TV spots for the film. Just like the rest of the world, I really can’t wait to get in line for this one.

The spots are titled “Classified” and ” Fight Critics”. Each features some new footage, and does a damn good job of further exciting me for the picture. Take a look at each new preview below, and let us know what you think!

After Pacific Rim’s world premiere just a few days ago, Twitter buzz for the film has been very steady. The bulk of it seems extremely positive, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Check out some prominent quotes about the movie below, and be sure to let us know how excited you are. Pacific Rim hits theatres next Friday, July 12th.

Sounds pretty good, huh?

Pacific Rim hits theatres in just over a week, and Warner Bros. is certainly giving this original film the marketing push that it deserves. A multitude of new posters and clips have been released in recent days, and the studio has just debut a fantatic, epic final trailer for the feature.

You know full well how excited we are for Pacific Rim to release, so we won’t waste any more time telling you how incredible it looks. Watch the final trailer below, watch last week’s Geekscape featuring Pacific Rim creator Travis Beacham, and let us know how excited you are!

The Pacific Rim marketing just keeps coming! Less than one day after two new character posters were revealed for the film, Warner Bros. has released another two posters, plus a new clip to further excite you for the coming epic.

The first poster features Australian Jaeger Striker Eureka, while the second spotlights ‘Category 4’ Kaiju Leatherback. The new clip look similar to footage we’ve seen in the recent trailers, but looks like the setup for an intense battle.

Take a look at everything below, and let us know what you think! Pacific Rim hits theatres on July 12th! The movie’s screenwriter, Travis Beacham, was just a guest on Geekscape!

Pacific Rim hits theatres in less than two weeks, and Warner Bros. has definitely begun a heavy marketing push for the film. Yesterday, four fantastic new clips were released, and the studio has just unveiled two new character posters.

One image features the monstrous ‘Category 4’ Kaiju Otachi, while the other spotlights American Jaeger Gipsy Danger. The two are set to face-off in the feature, which should definitely make for an interesting matchup.

Legendary Pictures highly anticpated Pacific Rim is less than two weeks away from release, and the studio has just unveiled four new clips from the film.

Each clip takes us through a different scene from the movie, including a Kaiju/Jaeger battle, training, arguing, and some black-market dealing. Each and every one of them looks absolutely fantastic.

Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated Pacific Rim is now just two weeks away, and Warner Bros. has just released a new featurette for the film.

Titled Under Attack, the featurette shows off plenty of new footage from the movie, and features Guillermo Del Toro, Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and Charlie Day speaking about their roles in the groundbreaking project.

Pacific Rim looks incredible, and we couldn’t be more excited for it. Watch the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Looking for more Pacific Rim? Screenwriter Travis Beacham was just a guest on the show!

This may be Pacific Rim‘s best preview yet.

Idris Elba’s fantastic ‘cancel the apocalypse’ speech overlays some incredible Kaiju/Jaeger action, and really sets a phenomenal tone for the upcoming film. The action looks amazing, the cinematography and sound are beyond impressive, and the plot sounds solid. I hope that Pacific Rim does well for Legendary, as I already feel as though this world needs to be expanded.

Damnit. I wish I wasn’t hours away from my nearest IMAX.

The FanFix poster series continues with this Summer’s release of Pacific Rim, and this poster may just be the best yet. The LA Times Hero Complex premiered the poster today, which was created by artist Sergio Grisanti. Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro had this to say about the beautifully crafted image:

“I am thrilled to introduce Sergio Grisanti to the world. For years he has been a highly respected commercial artist. When I was first exposed to his art for ‘Pacific Rim,’ I knew instantly that he was a powerhouse of talent. He created the Jaeger posters/card art we used at WonderCon. Without any hesitation I asked him to create this new Imax Fanfix art. Look at it closely — with a magnifying glass! So much going on! Such power! Such beauty! Sergio loves his Kaijus and his Mecha, and it shows. The poster, like my film, is a tribute to well-loved things. I wish all the fans the best time at the first Imax screenings of ‘Pacific Rim.’ Enjoy!”

The poster will be given to attendees of Pacific Rim‘s first IMAX screenings. Head here to see if your local theatre is participating! Take a look at Sergio’s poster below, and let us know what you think!

Pacific Rim is just weeks away at this point, and like the rest of the world, we couldn’t be more excited.

Marketing for the film has been superb so far, and today’s new TV spot is no different. The preview showcases the Kaiju destruction in many of Earth’s biggest cities. The world is looks like a pretty horrific place, so it’s no wonder we developed the Jaegers to fight back… I just wonder how things will turn out.

Following all of the awesome still photos and concept art from yesterday, Warner Bros has released both a new banner, and a new featurette for Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated Pacific Rim.

The film’s second featurette (watch the first here) takes you onto the film’s giant sets, and shows you what it’s like to create and film a Jaeger. It’s an awesome look inside the film, and should help to further excite you for July 12th!

Pacific Rim draws ever closer, and I find myself more and more excited for the film every day. Every trailer, image, and piece of marketing for the film has looked incredible, and it’s going to be quite the experience to see the Kaiju and the Jaeger’s duke it out on the big screen.

Pacific Rim is just too far away, isn’t it?

We still have well over a month to wait until we can see the film, and Warner Bros. keeps releasing new images, trailers, and TV spots to excite and tease us to a ridiculous extent. A new TV spot has made its way online, and is filled with some cool new footage that shows Charlie Hunnam’s ‘Raleigh’ joining the fight against the Kaiju.

This move is going to rock. Watch the new spot below, and let us know what you think! Pacific Rim opens on July 12th!

Warner Bros. has just released a new featurette for Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated Pacific Rim, and it’s a great watch for anyone who’s interested in the movie. The video features lots of new footage, and helps explain something that I’ve been wondering about the film for quite some time: why does each Jaeger need two pilots?

The answer to that question is simple (and actually one that I’ve speculated on before), but I’ll let  you watch the featurette and find out for yourself. Check out the video below, and let us know what you think! Pacific Rim opens on July 12th!

Warner Bros. has just released the first TV spot for Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated Pacific Rim. Warner Bros. has just released a new full-length trailer for the wildly anticipated Pacific Rim. The preview is full of new footage, and looks absolutely insane.

You know how much we’re looking forward to the film here at Geekscape. Every image, every preview, and every piece of viral marketing has been awesome. With a director like Guillermo Del Toro in charge of this one, Pacific Rim is bound to be one of the most intense experiences of the year.

While the concept of motion comics dates back to the 1960’s, it has only really become a popular form of media within the last decade. With successful releases by both DC and Marvel projects, motion comics are becoming a popular means of delivering comic book content in a motion picture form. And with popularity, comes bigger names to the industry. USA Today announced the upcoming project Peter Panzerfaust will include voice acting from such talents as Elijah Wood (Lord Of The Rings), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Summer Glau (Firefly).

Peter Panzerfaust is an Image Comics series by Kurtis J. Wiebe and Tyler Jenkins based on a World War II take of the Peter Pan mythology. The comic follows an American boy (Peter) who rallies a group of French orphans during the occupation of Calais, the first city to fall to the Germans in the spring of 1940. The trailer itself gives us a glimpse of the artwork and a brief idea of the actors voice talents in their roles.

Interestingly, the film will also include a bit of Peter Pan history in the form of Dante Basco, who plays one of the Lost Boys Alain. You might remember him as Rufio from the 1991 live-action movie Hook. In addition to the trailer, writer Kurtis J. Wiebe also hints at a live-action TV series in development, but admits that it’s still very early in the planning stages.

Last month, director Guillermo Del Toro debuted a brand new awesome trailer for Pacific Rim at WonderCon and revealed that he only planned to show it there and at CinemaCon. Well, Warner Bros. has now decided to release the action-packed trailer featuring “2,500 tons of awesome” footage and you can check it out below.

Pacific Rim hits theaters July 12, 2013.

The anticipated release of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim is fast approaching, and Warner Bros. has just released an awesome new poster for it. The image showcases a Kaiju in the middle of a city, and as expected, destruction is everywhere.

Pacific Rim hits theatres on July 21st, and I couldn’t be more excited. As far as I’ve been told (especially from the lucky folks who were in attendance at the WonderCon panel back in March), we have no idea what we’re getting ourselves into with this one.

Check out the poster below, and let us know how excited you are!

Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

So, every so often a trailer comes around that reveals a comedy that everyone should be adding to their “must see” list. This definitely looks like one. With a cast that includes Charlie Hunnam, Chris O’Dowd, Lizzy Caplan, Chris Noth and Ron Perlman as a woman…how could you NOT want to see this?

Frank Bartlett (Charlie Hunnam) has been tortured, embarrassed and humiliated by his brother Bruce (Chris O’Dowd) – usually on film – his entire life. Now that Bruce is finally off drugs and has turned his life around, things should be different. They are not.

3, 2, 1…Frankie Go Boom is in theaters October 12.

If you thought he was dead…you were wrong obviously. Hellboy will be returning later this year with a new  series. This series will run for four issues and is only the first in a line of Hellboy in Hell stories. The first issue is set to hit shelves December 5th of this year.

So, I spotted this story and thought it’d be something really cool to share with you all. This is a really touching story involving Ron Perlman himself once again dressing up as Hellboy to make a young boys wish come true. Zachary is six, and is currently being treated for leukemia and Ron went above and beyond to make this wish a reality.

In the past three weeks, Spectral Motion has been honored to host two wonderful Make-A-Wish children, Caleb and Zachary. Zachary loved his visit for two very special reasons. It was Zachary’s wish to meet Hellboy and also to become Hellboy. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation contacted Spectral Motion with this request, Mike thought it would be fantastic to have Ron Perlman reprise his role for the day. Ron loved the idea and donned the makeup once more (with the assistance of Lufeng Qu and Eden Elizalde) and also ordered a Hellboy sized meal of burgers, shakes, and fries for Zachary and his family and the entire Spectral crew to enjoy. Later in the day, Zachary was transformed into Hellboy with the assistance of makeup artists Lufeng Qu and Neil Winn. Both of the Make-A-Wish days were a complete thrill for the families of the children, as well as for the crew at Spectral Motion!
