‘Thor: Ragnarok’ has arrived and it is glorious! Crammed to the gills with action, humor, massive set pieces and wonderful character moments, Thor’s 3rd solo film is widely regarded as his best yet. Do we agree? I sit down with Ian Kerner for another Geekscape special to discuss the cameos, Thor VS Hulk, Hela’s status as one of the best villains in the MCU, the adaptation of ‘Planet Hulk’, how ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ fits into the wider MCU, what it means for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and so much more! You know Ian is going to bring the knowledge and there is a LOT to talk about this film so listen up and enjoy!

This is a story all about how Thor’s life got twist-turned upside down. All joking aside, the teaser trailer for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok looks fabulous. Take a gander below and we will discuss after. Don’t worry; I can wait.

Wow, right? For starters, despite the darker tone (not counting the bright color scheme in some of the costumes) the humor we expect from Marvel superhero movies seems to remain intact. So surprise numero uno would be Thor’s loss of his mighty hammer, Mjölnir. The inclusion of The Incredible Hulk was also a bit of a shocker given that this was not an Avengers film. Who else can we expect to see, I wonder?

I am curious about how they are going to explain the presence of the film’s baddie, Hela (also known as Hel in some Norse works). According to Norse myhtology, she is a daughter of Loki. Will they alter that piece of her background in the film?

This trailer has raised plenty of questions and certainly has piqued my interest in the film. What was your impression?

Briefly: Thor sure looks… different.

Ahead of the film’s release this November, EW has just let loose the very first batch of official images form the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. Yeah, we knew that Hemsworth would be getting a new look, but it’s crazy how much a new ‘do can affect one’s image. I barely even recognize the Odinson here.

Hopefully we’ll see some actual footage sometime soon, but for now, take a look at the images below, and be sure to let us know which Marvel flick you’re most excited for this year (it’s Guardians, isn’t it)! Thor: Ragnarok hits theatres on November 3rd.

That’s right! Even though we’re still over a year out from the end of Phase 3, Marvel has already begun filming on Avengers: Infinity War!

To celebrate, the studio has released a teaser online featuring Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, and Chris Pratt talking about the start of filming the movie. They talk about how The Avengers will finally team up with The Guardians to face off against Thanos. Kevin Feige also talks about how Thanos won’t be like previous Marvel movie villains, as he will actually pose as a major threat. The video ends with a short clip of the infinity gauntlet being revealed. Check out the video for more below!

For those impatient, just think of it this way. We only have 3 more films until Infinity War. You can wait 3 more films right? No? Me too, but we really have no other choice. Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4th, 2018. Are you excited for the film? What upcoming phase 3 film are you most looking forward to? Tell us in the comments below!

It’s that wonderful time of the week again, new comic book day! Choosing what to read can be daunting (and expensive!). Don’t worry though, Geekscape has you covered. Each week we give our best bet for a comic book that you’re sure to enjoy. Let’s get into it.

Unprecedented in the history of Best Bets, there is no issue in particular that I’m most excited for or think is worthy of being a best bet. This week it is all honourable mentions. Is that even the right phrase when there is no true winner? How about the Most Exciting of the Not Most Exciting? I don’t know. Enough of that, let’s talk this week’s comics!

Honorable Mentions

Champions #2
📝 Mark Waid
🎨 Humberto Ramos

When Champions debuted, I discussed how I believe Marvel replacing their tried and true super heroes in their comic books with new ones is a bad idea. Despite Champions arguably being the flag bearer of that movement, I gave the book a chance. It’s written by Mark Waid after all. While I wouldn’t put it in the same category as his work on Daredevil, Black Widow, Archie, etc. it still stuck it’s claws deep enough in me that I’ll be coming back for issue #2 today.

Speaking of tried and true, the original God of Thunder is back this week in The Unworthy Thor!

The Unworthy Thor #1
📝 Jason Aaron
🎨 Olivier Coipel

The Odinson’s desperate search to regain his worthiness has taken him out into the cosmos, where he’s learned of the existence of a mysterious other Mjolnir. This weapon of unimaginable power, a relic from a dead universe, is the key to Odinson’s redemption — but some of the greatest villains of the Marvel Universe are now anxious to get their hands on it as well. Can The Odinson reclaim his honor, or will the power of thunder be wielded for evil? The quest for the hammer begins here.

Helmed by the great creative team of Jason Aaron and Olivier Coipel, this book is probably going to be good, just not enough for me to pull the trigger on it being a best bet.

How about a little DC love too?

422224-_sx1280_ql80_ttd_
Superman #10
📝 Patrick Gleason, Peter J. Tomasi
🎨 Patrick Gleason

Coming off the conclusion of the awesome two-parter Return to Dino Island, I’m hoping Superman can continue to gather steam. Tomasi has been doing a great job exploring the father son relationship, and now it looks like we might see another father/son combination join the action. Also, the Watchmen references have been happening consistently in this series so hopefully it will continue to unveil how these worlds mix!

Edit: So yeah, Avengers #1 is a thing too. By Mark Waid and Mike Del Mundo and a gorgeous cover by Alex Ross.

Marvel is leading the way when it comes to super hero films, not only in box office receipts but also critic and fan admiration. While at the same time, rival DC / Warner Bros. is struggling.  Undoubtedly, DC most likely wishes they could claim the same success Marvel has had with the super hero universe but with the double whammy of box office failures of “Suicide Squad” and “Batman V. Superman,” the pressure, regardless of studio to deliver a quality film that can appease critics, fans and ultimately the box-office, is no easy matter.

However, the new director of Thor: Ragnarok, in an exclusive interview with Geekscape doesn’t seem to be feeling the pressure to deliver.

Discussing his latest film “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” which has an astonishing 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes (unheard of for a comedy), and the pressures of directing Thor’s next outing, I spoke with the New Zealander via phone;

taika-waititi-xmen

Allie Hanley: You really gained a lot of notoriety for your directing/writing/acting for the film “What We Do In The Shadows” which is a hilarious mockumentary about the day in a life of a vampire. Your latest film, “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” is completely different. It’s essentially a comedy with heart. It’s a buddy film that features a superb performance from Sam Neil (Jurassic Park) and takes place in the wilderness. Though both films are hilarious, they are also very different. What was the draw of “Wilderpeople” for you?

Taika Waititi: Well, I don’t know… just been interested for a long time. I like films that are both funny and from the heart that have a grounded-ness to them as well. Even though “What We Do In The Shadows” was a ridiculous film about vampires it was also a film about people who are completely out of touch, -stuck; they can’t move-on otherwise; And those are the kinds of films I want to make. Even though this film is essentially a buddy film <Wilderpeople> it’s about two guys on the run who are also looking for family, connection and looking to go home when they don’t even have a home… I will always have a mixture of comedy with sort of heart in them to varying degrees and the subject matter varying in ridiculousness.

AH: Currently “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” has an 8.4 score on IMDB from MetaCritic and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty spectacular. How much attention do you pay those scores as a writer?

TW: I don’t really. -I don’t know, people tell me and I feel very proud of that. I don’t know about that. There are different movies that I love that probably got a lower rating, actually a really much lower ratings. What is great though, is that it’s always validating when you get good reviews and it’s a hard thing because you want people to go and see your film, so it does make a difference. But if you listen to all of them, all that stuff, -all of that noise  before you make a film, you can’t be worried about all of that stuff.

AH: You have a lot of comedy in your resume as an actor and a director including “Flight of the Conchords,” and the TV version of “The Inbetweeners.” Are you having much opportunity to instill that in your next film “Thor: Ragnarok?”

TW: Well, I am not sure if it will be like any of that stuff. This is a big super hero movie, so I want to do justice to the genre it is, and be authentic to that. It’s going to be very entertaining, and fun.

AH: The Marvel universe and the list of the movies that have come from them has received a very high caliber of praise from fans and critics. Does that put any kind of pressure on you?

TW: Nah! I don’t feel any of that kind of stuff. I am a very relaxed person, I am very confident, and I am also really smart and good looking. I also think I dress really well and have excellent taste in trends and people. I mean just listening to me, you must begin to understand the level of confidence I have and obviously that’s going to be infused deeply into this movie that I am going to make; this level of confidence that I keep talking about.

I am very relaxed kind of person, and I know what I like, and I know what I think is dumb and what’s good in a movie… and hopefully that will happen and what I am trying do in this film. (He’s being comedic) <laughing>.

AH: In all seriousness, there is a concern though that since you were an actor on the “Green Lantern” film that it could have ramifications on this film. (Green Lantern, from DC,  drew a lot of mixed reviews, and Taika by coincidence had a role in the film as an actor)

TW: What! How could that even be a concern? Who’s concerned?

AH: I’m just joking with you! <now I am laughing>

TW: <Laughing> I was gonna say!; well I bet there are people who are like “No way!” Well, I am having some fun with some of the staunch, comic-book obsessed people out there… who I hear from now and then on Twitter. I have a lot of fun sometimes reading some of the comments from there like “Can you please put his pink boots from issue 789 into the movie because the die-hard fans would really appreciate that.” I am like well, those darn boots are cool, but ahhhhh, not for this.

AH: So Hulk will be in the new movie, will he being wearing armor this time?

TW: <Laughing> I get this all the time. I don’t know, ask Hulk.

***************

For the record, DC should take some notes… the decision makers over at Marvel couldn’t have selected a better director for this new Thor film. The first film that had Kenneth Branagh directing was really solid because he paid attention to the genre, the heart of the story, and included comedic touches. In the same thought, Taika Waititi will do it justice. The track of all the comedic bits that have played well in all the Marvel films, especially “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Ant Man,” have laid a foundation that Taika will undoubtedly play up, and his short that played at Comic Con showing what Thor was up to on vacation in Australia is just a hint of what is to come, we are indeed in wonderful hands under his direction.

Also; Screenrant reported recently that they think The Warriors Three will be in this 3rd Thor film. I’d like to note that last January I did interview Ray Stevenson (for his work on Starz’s “Black Sails”  and asked him about reprising his role. He responded that he hadn’t been contacted in anyway about reprising his role. It’s been 7 months and that could have changed. His co-star Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), is listed as currently filming “Thor: Ragnarok.” My gut feeling is that he’s not in it, even though Lady Sif is. He’d have it listed on IMDB at this point more than likely.

“Hunt for the Wilderpeople” is now playing in select theaters. Seek it out.

Did You Know Gaming? is one of my favorite lunch break time-killers at work. Their 5-10 minute videos have unveiled the making and secrets of nearly a hundred prolific games, franchises, and consoles and it’s my favorite way to occupy my attention while I eat a pastrami. They’ve recently introduced a new series, “Unseen64” which delves into the doomed productions of cancelled video games. Their newest video reveals an amazing what-could-have been: Marvel’s The Avengers, which would have been a first-person action game with a story written by veteran comic scribe Brian Michael Bendis.

I’m really stunned by how well the FP aspects would have worked without the “S” part. None of the Avengers (except maybe Iron Man) would have shooting mechanics, but based on the footage from early builds it actually looks like it would have been a ton of fun. Each of the playable Avengers — Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man primarily, with Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel being unlockable — essentially fulfill a class not unlike *Team Fortress 2*, with everyone relying on each other’s strengths to make up for their own shortcomings. That’s teamwork! Which should be at the heart of most comic book games (Batman excluded).

Also notable is how the game isn’t based on the film, but The Avengers property with designs inspired by Joss Whedon’s movie and an original story riffing on Bendis’ Secret Invasion storyline. The tie-in video game quietly died a few years ago and none of us really noticed.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me about cancelled video games is how invincible they should have been. You’d think that a video game tied to one of the most lucrative films in history would have been cancellation-proof, but THQ’s financial woes were ultimately what killed the project. A more recent example is P.T., aka Silent Hills which its ingredients should have allowed it to survive: genre auteur Guillermo del Toro, Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima, and Norman Reedus, the breakout star of the world’s most popular cable series The Walking Dead. How on Earth do these things just fall through the cracks?

Whoa. On Tuesday, December 8th Marvel teams up with Amazon on an exclusive offering to knock your Captain America socks clean off! The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two collection drops only on Amazon with all new bonus content, film replicas and more. In addition, each film features custom disc sleeves from artist Matt Ferguson.

Geekscape got a sneak peek at these alternate covers to share with you—and they’re freaking awesome. Go ahead feast your eyes and start squirreling away your pennies!

This collection is not messing around—it doesn’t seem like this is going to be the “pretty good one,” only to be replaced next year by the “super awesome edition.” This collection already has all the goods I look for in my film collecting proclivities—and then a little more! I ended up buying a 3D TV several Black Fridays ago when it was the same price as the standard model and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. As a result, if a movie I want comes out on Blu-ray and there’s a 3D version—that’s the one I buy. That and so much more is already baked into this collection! In their own words:

The limited edition, 13-Disc Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection invites you to hold the greatest power in the cosmos in your grasp – an orb containing one of the legendary Infinity Stones! Plus Blu-ray 3D™, Blu-ray™ and Digital Copies of all Phase 2 films, in collectible packaging designed by artist Matt Ferguson. This set overflows with stunning Marvel memorabilia, including a gold-foiled page from the book of Dark Elves, an ancient drawing from the Morag vault, Avengers and S.T.R.I.K.E. uniform patches, a replica of the Tony Stark Tattoo from Marvel’s Iron Man 3, and much more!

I mean, come on!—there’s a freakin’ ancient drawing from the Morag vault! What more can you possibly ask for?!

Personally, there were some moments I didn’t fully connect with in this film collection—but honestly, I take the blame on those for the time being. Maybe I was in the wrong mood when I saw them or something—planning to give Iron Man 3Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron further viewings before making my final call on them. (Especially after getting a better understanding of what went into this intricate web Marvel is weaving as best they can during this release event.) However, here’s the thing—even if every film isn’t up to the snuff of say, Guardians of the Galaxy, they’re still better than most other offerings in their genre; meaning—you can’t lose, even if you lose, with these films. You will be properly entertained come hell or high water!

This unveiling comes properly on the heels of the release of the premiere trailer for the first film in Phase Three, Captain America: Civil War, this week. Whoowhee!—that trailer’s some dramatic adrenaline right there.

And now, my lovelies, because these are just the sort of details I hunt down when considering investing in a collection to add to my. . . collection, here are all the technical details they’ve provided us at this time:

After facing tough competition, Taika Waltiti has earned the job for the third installment of the franchise. Waltiti is best known for his work on the vampire flick, What We Do in the Shadows (2014), which he co-wrote and co-directed. Aside from that, Waltiti has also directed five episodes of The Inbetweeners and a feature, The Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016).

Thor Ragnarok is set to release July 28, 2017.

There’s a game I like to play when I watch movies, called “What Broke My Suspension of Disbelief?” Sometimes it’s something big, like a Jaeger bashing a Kaiju with an entire ship, and sometimes it’s small, like the fly on that dude’s forehead in Troll 2. And don’t even get me started on the cannibalism in Fried Green Tomatoes (because I’ll be discussing that in a future article). Whatever causes it, it’s always entertaining to look back on a movie, be it good or utter garbage, and contemplate that one scene where the people writing the script just asked too much of you, their devoted audience.

With the current wave of superhero movies being made in the past decade or so, few things are as ridiculous as forcing two complete strangers to fall in love as they are being shot at by lasers and buildings are falling down around them. As the title implies, this article is FULL OF SPOILERS, so don’t read it unless you’ve seen pretty much all of the MCU films as well as most of the other recent superhero movies. Or you don’t care about having romantic subplots discussed.

My wife and I finally got around to seeing Ant-Man at the theater this past weekend, and something has been bugging me (heh) ever since: that kiss. I’m obviously no Puritan when it comes to my movie tastes; I watch stuff like Wolfcop and Dr. Giggles for Horror Movie Night on a weekly basis, and I did just watch a bunch of guys in superhero costumes punch each other silly.

So why does this 20-second portion of Ant-Man stick out so much to me? As the title here states, it’s completely unnecessary to the film, and a bit unrealistic to have occurring after a week of Hope Pym beating the tar out of Scott Lang in the basement and staring daggers at him and Hank. It’s unrealistic in a movie about a guy who invents a shrinking suit and has the ability to control ants – that’s saying something. Part of me realizes that their kiss was shoehorned in for the comedic relief with grumpy Dad (and to set things in motion for Ant-Man 2), but the rest of me is having trouble letting go and enjoying the rest of the movie. If they had just given a subtle hint that they were going to hook up in the next movie, I would be here writing about how amazing, witty and just plain FUN the script is. But nope, they had to turn The Wasp into a Battle Babe.

“What’s a Battle Babe,” you say? I thought you’d never ask! Battle Babes are strong female characters who are introduced as valuable allies in the beginning of a movie, only to be relegated to love interests or damsels in distress by the third act. The most damning part of the phenomenon is that I can’t think of any film where a male character goes through the same devolution (probably because that would be emasculating, and the majority of people consuming superhero and action movies are male). Concrete examples will paint the picture best, I think.

LillyBar640

Hope Pym (Evangeline Lilly) in Ant-Man; as mentioned above, teaches Scott Lang to fight and control ants, helps coordinate the main heist and then pisses it all away by inexplicably falling for Scott Lang (who killed her old boyfriend Darren Cross just hours before). It’s like watching the Karate Kid lip-locking Mr. Miyagi for no reason after winning the All-Valley Karate Tournament.

"Marvel's Thor: The Dark World"..Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) ..Ph: Jay Maidment..© 2013 MVLFFLLC. TM & © 2013 Marvel. All Rights Reserved.

Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) in Thor; she starts the movie as a freaking ASTROPHYSICIST and is not once seen using that massive intellect in either the first or second film to do anything but get into situations that require her godly boyfriend. Sif (Jaimie Alexander) is an even worse case/better example, as she spends Thor and Thor II kicking ass from one end of the Bifrost to the other and is written as a Thor clinger. Luckily, she pops up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. free of romantic BS.

RASPUTIN

Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was hinted that she and Cap had a bit of mutual attraction in The Winter Soldier, but luckily nothing came of it (thereby saving my favorite MCU movie from certain disaster). But as soon as the Avengers start partying in AoU, sparks fly between Natasha and Bruce Banner. It’s not even subtle, and sets up an interesting dramatic point about Natasha’s experiences as a child assassin, but forcing the relationship just to get there is an low point in an otherwise light summer blockbuster. It also dismantles most of the badassness Black Widow has cultivated in her preceding films. Once a lethal assassin, now just a lady without a baby…

3f9176e1ff65c93c683fd98be97c0571

Sgt. Rita Rose Vrataski (Emily Blunt) in Edge of Tomorrow. Sargeant. SARGEANT. That right there denotes that she’s pretty tough and can kill Mimics with the best of them. She realizes Cage (Tom Cruise) is looping after each death, and trains him accordingly, only for him to fall in love with her and keep trying to get her to safety each loop. Rita does go down fighting, but still qualifies for the title since she’s sexualized almost from the get-go and you know from the first minute Cage meets her, she’s going to be the love interest.

8

Evey (Natalie Portman, again!) in V for Vendetta. V spends half of the movie using her to help him kill his enemies, and then confesses his love for her before dying. I can’t believe how badly the Wachowskis screwed up Alan Moore’s original storyline by adding that. She was supposed to have been imprisoned and tortured by V to shape her into his successor, instead we got Lolita with Guy Fawkes masks.

un-wallpaper-del-film-elektra-con-un-primo-piano-di-jennifer-garner-elektra-186878897

Elektra (Jennifer Garner) in Daredevil and Elektra. While I realize that Elektra and Daredevil were an on-again-off-again couple in the comics, the films really played her up like a girl with a crush, particularly in the self-titled sequel. You’re supposedly the great martial arts “treasure” and more or less throw it all away at the end of Elektra to smooch the father of the girl you saved. Because every warrior woman is just wasting time until she can put down the katanas and start a family.

Even the pictures I found from each film portray these women as sexy and/or weak. It’s sort of creepy.

Now, those are some of the worst offenders in recent memory, but there ARE ways to do it without making me roll my eyes. Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in Captain America and especially Agent Carter kicks so much ass and while she does have feelings for Cap, it never gets in the way of her busting skulls. She finds herself in peril but never waits for some dude to save the day; she’s a proactive heroine. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) in Guardians of the Galaxy is ALMOST a Battle Slut, and will likely become one in the sequel, but I think James Gunn did a great job poking fun at the trope a bit and didn’t leave her waiting to be rescued by Peter Quill.

Maybe my problem with Battle Babes and all the unnecessary romance in comic book movies is that, for me, unconsummated affection works better than forcing strangers to fall in love while evading death. That comic book movies seem to utilize Battle Babes most of the time, doesn’t make me love the genre any less, but their prevalence in a film is an easy barometer for me to tell how good the adaption is.

So, what do you think? Am I crazy? Are Battle Babes anachronistic? Leave a comment!

Post script: I just realized that Batman does kind of get the Battle Babe treatment (thanks to Talia’s betrayal) in The Dark Knight Rises. So there’s one.

CM Punk, a.k.a Phil Brooks if you want to call him that and get punched in the face, has just appeared in his first official UFC photoshoot. In case you’re wondering what it looks like when a former WWE Champion puts on UFC gloves and isn’t Brock Lesnar, you now have an answer.

This guy also wrote a Thor comic for Marvel this year. Let’s not forget that.

Longtime fans will notice how the shorts are something of a callback to his time in Ring of Honor, much like his use of Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” in his later WWE years.

As of now there are no definite dates or opponents for CM Punk. In this recent interview with Fox Sports:

FSW: What month did you start here? December?

PUNK: No, I started here in January. In my mind, I’m shooting for the end of the year (to make my UFC debut). So, October at the earliest, December the latest. If they tell me I’m a whiz kid after six months and they think I’m ready; it might be earlier and it might be later, I don’t know. I know that’s a very vague answer, but I’m taking this extremely seriously.

For the wrestling fans of Geekscape, the interview also dealt with his current relationship with his last passion.

FSW: Since Jan. 2014, speaking of TV, how much WWE programming have you watched?

PUNK: None. I don’t watch wrestling anymore. I’ve tried to, but I have an aversion to it. You do something like that for however many years I did it, and it’s like a lifetime. I’ve seen enough.

FSW: How does that work with your wife (WWE’s A.J. Lee) still doing it? Does she tell you about it, given that you don’t want to watch it? Or do you watch her stuff?

PUNK: I will, yeah, I will watch her stuff. Chances are she’ll only tell me to watch when she’s excited about something. But, yeah, it’s my wife, she’s a grown-ass woman, she can do what she needs to.

FSW: No NXT for you then?

PUNK: No, no. I lived it.

Excited to see CM Punk duke it out in the UFC? I am. Let us know if you are in the comments. And if you miss CM Punk in the WWE like I do, well, we can always watch this again.

Briefly: Marvel today debuted the official theatrical poster for May’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The image is busy as hell, but reveals a few interesting tidbits about the film, including the fact that both Hayley Atwell and Anthony Mackie will return in some form (big surprise, huh). The poster features our core Avengers group, who look to be fighting alongside Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver, while Paul Bettany’s Vision is obscured by sunlight. Oh, and don’t forget the one million Ultron cronies.

It’s hard to believe that we’re now just two months away from the second Avengers film, but we’re getting pretty damned excited. Take a look at the new poster below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st!

Ultron

“I’m gonna tear you apart… from the inside.”

Yep, Ultron’s still creepy. The latest trailer for May 1st’s Avengers: Age of Ultron has just hit the web, and while it doesn’t show us too much that we haven’t already seen… it does feature some badass new action and a lot of Ultron being disturbing as hell.

Is it just me though, or is anyone else already getting sick of that music? Also, where is Paul Bettany’s The Vision? And did Hulk’s eyes look red at the end to anyone else?

In any case, it’s a pretty cool trailer. Take a look below, and get speculating!

We brought you the leaked, official and the first extended trailer for Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Now it looks like Marvel is getting extended trailer happy once again! Check out the NEWEST Age of Ultron trailer!

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st, 2015.

I met CM Punk at the first, and last I recall only Wizard World in New York City last year. I always heard he was a bit of a grump, and should you encounter him at a Chicago Blackhawks game with his wife he’ll for damn sure give you the cold shoulder. But at Wizard World, where you pay obscene dollars to have TV stars smile at you for five minutes, he couldn’t have been nicer while I rambled why being straight-edge in high school allowed me to graduate with honors. Cool guy.

But before that, of course I’ve seen him wrestle for years on television, and a few times in person (WrestleMania 29!), so yeah, I’m a fan. I was delighted to learn that he has more or less found a new career after infamously walking out of pro wrestling for good: Comic book author! He might be a millionaire, but the guy has to still pay the bills.

In February, CM Punk (real name Phil Brooks) will kick (your head in!) start his career in comics with “Thor Annual #1.” His story will be of an early, younger Thor, when he was brash and arrogant and wanted to prove to the world he had what his takes. I wonder where he’s getting this character from?

From Marvel.com:

So the idea was, let’s do a story about young Thor as kind of a brash, bratty teenager who’s like, “I’m totally worthy of this hammer. My dad’s full of [expletive]. I don’t know why I’m not ‘worthy’ of the hammer. Look at all this cool stuff I did.” And it’s more or less like a drinking story. He’s gonna be sitting around with a few choice characters from the Marvel Universe, and they’re all gonna be drinking, and Thor’s gonna basically be complaining about essentially why his dad won’t give him the keys to the car.

It’s no secret CM Punk is a nerd in cool guy’s clothing. But in the aftermath of his tiff with WWE, fans were left to wonder what their favorite grappler would be doing. I thought he would fade into obscurity and lead a quiet life, going to Cubs games, train in jiu-jitsu with the Gracies, and do fun stuff for Chris Hardwick’s The Nerdist every blue moon. Comic book writing? That’s a damn near perfect fit.

I’m happy for the guy. Yes, he was my favorite pro wrestler, but when you’ve lost your passion for what you do, fucking quit that shit. Especially with something as dangerous as pro wrestling. When your head isn’t in the game, you not only perform to a lower standard, you’re also a liability and a danger to who you work with. CM Punk leaving means someone might not be paralyzed right about now.

The man has burned a lot of bridges in the world of pro wrestling, so even if he wanted to come back, he probably wouldn’t be welcome. Even Chris Jericho can’t get a single text message from him. So the nerd-friendly world of comic books is not only a great next step, but a logical one.

“Thor Annual #1” releases in February 2015. Other star writers are attached to the title, but I’m confident none of them have told off Vince McMahon like he has.

If you’re unfamiliar with the man they call CM Punk, see why he made such a splash a few years ago.

Briefly: We all received a fantastic treat late last week when the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron leaked online, DAYS before it’s scheduled launch on last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel blamed it on Hydra, which was a hilarious and lighthearted way of looking at the leak. Not wanting to leave any of us S.H.I.E.L.D. fans hanging, the studio attached a special look at the film on last night’s episode. If you we’re lucky enough to be in Hall H at SDCC this past Summer, than it’s nothing new for you, but it’s exciting to see the scene online and official.

It’s also fantastic to see the look on Thor’s face when Cap almost lifts the hammer, and now we can see it over and over and over again. The rest of the video is pretty much the trailer we’ve already seen, but I’m not going to say no to watching that one again. Take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’re excited!

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st, 2015.

Briefly: These are some exciting times for comic book movies. Marvel has decided to answer DC’s move of announcing all of their upcoming films through the year 2020 with their own long term announcements for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s what’s been announced, as well as the release dates:

list of movies

Chadwick Boseman was also announced as playing the lead, Black Panther. Here’s a concept shot of the bad-ass costume:

Kevin Feige announced that this will be a Carol Danvers Captain Marvel, so definitely an answer to the Wonder Woman movie.

Yep, Avengers: Infinity War will be split into TWO parts. This is going to be HUGE!

I am super excited for these films and the introduction of these new characters into the MCU!

So, let the fantasy casting begin! Who do you think should play your favorite Marvel characters? Let us know in the comments section below!

LITERALLY NONE OF THESE WORDS MATTER. THESE ARE JUST WORDS. WHAT YOU WANT IS BELOW. But play along, please?

Earlier tonight the the much-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer was leaked online. It was supposed to air during next week’s Mavel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But because this is 2014, of course it didn’t! After a pretty amusing, self-deprecating tweet, Marvel has decided “eff it, let’s just do it.” The trailer is now on their official YouTube page, in crystal clear high-definition.

The trailer has all the neat stuff I kept hearing about from San Diego Comic-Con this summer. The Hulkbuster, an Avengers party, Ultron himself. It’s all really neat.

My favorite part, though, is what James Spader’s Ultron (and it’s so unmistakably him) says in the trailer: “You want to protect the world. But you don’t want it to change.” There is an ongoing, neverending debate that I love getting into about the true nature of superheroes. As protectors of the status-quo, what is their role when the world needs changing? Not that I expect Age of Ultron to be political in any shape or form, but the movie (I hope) will continue to change the superhero genre and begin to ask questions we, the dedicated superhero nerds who hold up this art to a higher level than most, might be uncomfortable to answer.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in 2015 and it will make so much money.

Briefly: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has found yet another guest star.

Sif, who fought alongside Thor in last year’s Thor: The Dark World, will guest star on “an upcoming episode” of the series. No timeframe or plot details have been revealed at this time.

I stopped watching Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a few episodes in. Those of you that are still watching, is there any reason to come back? Has the show picked up at all? I wanted to love it, but just couldn’t, so please let me know!

Briefly: The special features of Marvel’s upcoming Thor: The Dark World Blu-Ray launch were revealed today. Normally, these reveals aren’t that exciting, but this time around, the reveal also leaked the title of Marvel’s next One-Shot (following Item 47 and Agent Carter).

It’s called Hail to the King, it’s 16 minutes and 14 seconds long, and… that’s all we know at this point.

Briefly: Another day, another new clip from Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World.

Unlike yesterday’s clip, which showed off Thor in battle and the awesome power of Mjolnir, today’s clip shows off the heartfelt reunion between Thor and Jane Foster.

Take a look at the clip below, and let us know if you’re looking to the film. Thor: The Dark World hits theatres on November 8th!

Briefly: Yesterday, we saw Malekith wake up. Today, it’s time to check out Thor in battle.

Marvel has released another clip from next month’s anticipated Thor: The Dark World. This time, Thor teleports into battle using his trusty Mjolnir, and proceeds to take down all of the bad guys without even trying. Of course, the encounter’s former leader offers the tried and true ‘I had everything under control’ line.

In any case, it’s cool to get a look at the action in the film. Thor: The Dark World is looking great so far, and I can’t wait to see more! Take a look at the clip below, and let us know what you think! The film hits theatres on November 8th!

Briefly: Marvel today debuted a second clip for the highly anticipated Thor sequel, Thor: The Dark World.

While the film’s first clip was a dialogue-filled exchange between Thor and his adoptive brother, this new clip takes a much more silent approach. It features the The Dark World‘s villain, Malekith, waking up inside The Ark, and actually only contains one spoken line.

This movie is going to rock, right?

Briefly: Following the film’s first clip from earlier this week, Marvel has debuted another new featurette for November’s Thor: The Dark World.

The video spotlights just what Loki’s been up to since The Avengers (being stuck in an Asgardian cell, mostly), and the interesting dynamic of Thor needing his evil adopted brother’s help.

I can’t wait to finally see the film. The serious tone that Thor: The Dark World looks to take is one that I think Iron Man 3 desperately needed. In any case, take a look at the featurette below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! Thor: The Dark World hits theatres on November 8th!

Briefly: Following yesterday’s cool new featurette, Marvel has officially debuted the first clip from next month’s anticipated Thor: The Dark World.

The clip is an expansion of the Thor / Loki conversation that we’ve seen in almost every trailer, but it’s very cool to see the entire exchange. Remember that Loki nearly destroyed New York (or the planet), so as Loki states, Thor must be truly desperate asking him for help.

Briefly: Following the new TV spots from earlier this week, Marvel has debuted a new featurette for the highly anticipated Thor: The Dark World.

The featurette takes us to some of the locations used during filming, and shows us that this is definitely Thor on a much larger scale. It’s an awesome look into Marvel’s next phase two film, which seems to be looking better and better with each piece of new marketing.

The spots don’t seem to feature any new footage, but do recut what we’ve already seen into an epic new order. Seriously, the new Thor looks awesome, and as I’ve said before, it looks like everything that Iron Man 3 should have been.

Briefly: Doesn’t Thor: The Dark World look awesome? Honestly, I can’t wait for the thing, especially after the massive (understatement) disappointment that was Iron Man 3. Seriously, a silly buddy cop film has no place in a post-Avengers world.

Thor: The Dark World looks exactly like what Iron Man 3 should have been. It’s serious, people are scared, their planet was nearly destroyed, and everyone now knows that aliens exist. I’m hopeful that this could be the Phase Two film that we all were hoping for the first time around.

Marvel today debuted two new character posters for the film. The first spotlights a powerful looking Odin, while the second focusses in on Loki, while his shattered prison is displayed in the background.
