Spider-man: Homecoming definitely looks like it’s going to be worth watching this summer.

I’ve been interested to see what Marvel was going to do with the Spiderman story after his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. The scenes with the young Spidey were hilarious as he switched between fangirling over the fact that he was SO CLOSE to the Avengers while simultaneously fighting them.

I’ve never seen a Spiderman movie that I actually liked. I always thought the Peter Parker they portrayed would be more likely to become a stalker or serial killer than a superhero. But Tom Holland comes across more as a cute, quirky, nerdy guy who just wants to become an Avenger. I also like the addition of Tony Stark (obviously played by Robert Downey Jr.) as a sort of surrogate uncle/mentor figure (although, I could just be happy to see RDJ on screen, and who can blame me?).
What do you think of this latest Spiderman reboot? Watch the trailer and tell us in the comments!

That’s right! Even though we’re still over a year out from the end of Phase 3, Marvel has already begun filming on Avengers: Infinity War!

To celebrate, the studio has released a teaser online featuring Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, and Chris Pratt talking about the start of filming the movie. They talk about how The Avengers will finally team up with The Guardians to face off against Thanos. Kevin Feige also talks about how Thanos won’t be like previous Marvel movie villains, as he will actually pose as a major threat. The video ends with a short clip of the infinity gauntlet being revealed. Check out the video for more below!

For those impatient, just think of it this way. We only have 3 more films until Infinity War. You can wait 3 more films right? No? Me too, but we really have no other choice. Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4th, 2018. Are you excited for the film? What upcoming phase 3 film are you most looking forward to? Tell us in the comments below!

SPOILER FREE TRAILER POST!

Finally, a Spider-Man that’s home at Marvel Studios where he belongs. So much good going on in this trailer: web-wings, integration in an established universe, and an Uncle Ben that’s already in the grave. We love Ben. Love him so much we can’t bare to see him die again for a third time. It’s about time to web-sling into the unexplored parts of Spidey’s mythos.

It may be to early to call, but this is Spider-Man done right.

Check out the trailer below to see for yourselves…

Not to long ago we told you about the next in line to play Spider-Man, AND its newest director. Well now we have ourselves our Aunt May, and you’ll probably be as surprised as me when you find out who it is.

Marisa Tomei IS Aunt May (that shit rhymes!).

This casting, at least to me, seems like an odd choice for the actress. Normally reserved to more “serious” roles (The Wrestler, My Cousin Vinny and The Lincoln Lawyer), it came as a surprise to most of the community when it was announced.

A lot of people are worried that she is too young for the role, but with the right amount of makeup I think it might be a good role for her.

Spider-Man is set to hit theaters July 28th, 2017.

Last week I  looked back on the 10 albums that made my 2002. For my final top 10 until sometime in late December (at least for Geekscape) I present you the top 10 movies that made 2002 enjoyable for me.

 10. Jackass: the Movie

This is not a good movie. It’s not even necessarily a film. It’s a collection of insane stunts starring the MTV goldmine that was Jackass. There’s so many cringe worthy moments, there’s even a sequence or two that I can’t stand to watch (which is extra impressive since I adore Pink Flamingos). That being said I still love these films and hope that the tragic loss of Ryan Dunn doesn’t mean that we’ll never see a Jackass 4.

9. Slackers

This is one of the dumbest films ever conceived and I can’t get enough of it. When this movie first came out on DVD I immediately purchased it and would watch it on a semi-weekly basis with friends. The cast is full of random “before they were famous” actors like Jason Segal and Jason Swartzman; plus people whose career was on a downslide (Devon Sawa; Older Pete from Pete and Pete). This film has some of the most disturbing moments in sex comedy history (specifically involving a singing penis).

8. Spider-Man

This is the first superhero film to really rock my world. I enjoyed X-Men… but I LOVED Spider-Man. He was my favorite comic book character and I loved the cartoon series so the experience of seeing this in the theater was mind-altering. I’ve rarely had any other ‘edge of my seat with excitement’ moments quite like seeing this for the first time in theaters.

7. Hollywood Ending

Most of Woody Allen’s 90’s and early 2000’s career was mediocre at best. While critics disliked this film I enjoyed it. I think it’s one of the best films of his early 2000’s (not say much since it’s between Anything Else and The Curse of the Jade Scorpion). I believe Allen’s scriptwriting is at it’s best when he is writing about himself.

6. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers

Part Two of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy is the best part of franchise (like most trilogies), things are darker and things seem to be at their worst. More importantly, this is the film that introduced us to Gollum, probably the most impressive CGI creature ever made.

5. About Schmidt

First things first… yes this is the film where you see Kathy Bates naked. This works against the film more than for it. The film continued Alexander Payne’s incredible track record (one that still hasn’t disappointed me so far) started by Election. Jack Nicholson shines in the dramedy. Schmidt is going through alot. He’s going on a road trip to his daughter’s wedding while subsequently dealing with the rest death of his wife who he fell out of love with. The film won well deserved Golden Globe awards for best screenplay and best performance of any actor.

 4. One Hour Photo

Robin Williams has never been more terrifying than in this film. There’s such an overwhelming level of eeriness but what makes it all the more difficult to watch is that you feel sorry for his character (at least I did). Music video director Mark Romanek did an excellent job creating a sympathetic look at a lonely, obsessed stalker. If you’ve never seen this film, now is the time to check it out.

3. About a Boy

Probably the most faithful of Nick Hornby adaptations (not a giant feat when you factor in that his ode to Soccer was turned into a film about Baseball). There’s few films quite as heartwarming as this film. Hugh Grant has never been more likable and Badly Drawn Boy’s music has never sounded better than on this soundtrack. While a few elements from the original novel were omitted I completely support them being dropped. It saddens me about how few people have seen this film when it’s truly one of the romantic comedies both guys and girls could enjoy for it’s dark humor.

2. Death to Smoochy

This movie was a financial embarrassment to everyone involved. However, time has proven that this dark comedy was not only able to stand the test of time but also build up a great cult following. It is easily Danny Devito’s best directorial film (fuck the over-rated War of the Roses) and probably my favorite Edward Norton performance. The film delightfully shows off the dark side of children’s entertainment so for a Muppet/Sesame Street loving person like myself that’s just an added bonus.

1. Rules of Attraction

I remember seeing the trailer for this movie at the beginning of Donnie Darko.  It was so bizarre and told you so little about the movie that my girlfriend at the time and I went out the next weekend and rented it. This was my first experience with a movie based on a Bret Easton Ellis novel (and still my favorite adaptation). The film follows a bizarre love triangle between three college kids. Sean falls in love with Lauren, who used to date Paul, who’s now gay and in love with Sean.  What I loved about this movie was how intensely dark the humor is which is nothing new in the world of Ellis obviously. Things like drug overdoses, drug abuse, attempted murder and rape are looked at with such a blank faced lack of concern that it goes from disturbing and shocking into hilarious. It’s also incredible to factor in that James Van Der Beek was still a teenage heart-throb when he chose this role of Sean Bateman. A womanizing, drug dealer who is in general a terrible human being (also the brother of Patrick Bateman of American Psycho). One of my favorite elements of this film was the editing and soundtrack. The music gives the film an 80’s vibe (the time period the book took place in) while still clearly being modern time. Meanwhile the editing is constantly rewinding and fast forwarding sequence for us to see what multiple characters are doing at any given point. If you want to check out a surreal and sadly underrated drug/sex/college dark comedy, this is that genre at it’s finest.

As we all know they re-designed Spidey’s suit for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’. Concept artist Eddie Yang has posted images of some of the earlier designs on his personal website. I do prefer the suit that they did eventually go with. It actually looks amazing on the big screen. No pun intended. However I will say that second design is pretty damn cool…minus the weird alien eyes.

With recent rumors of Josh Trank (‘Chronicle’) being attached to direct it seems Sony is moving forward with the solo movie for Eddie Brock. There had been a script in development ever since ‘Spider-Man 3’ but worry not about it having any form of ties to that movie at all. With the reboot of Peter Parker’s story they will apparently be doing the same with Brock. TheHollywood recently spoke with Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach about the project.

“It’s an Eddie Brock story,” said Arad. “We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock’s story. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make the huge amazing movie about Eddie.” Tolmach adds, “He was a journalist. He had the wrong story, he got in trouble for it, he got fired. The whole essence to us for the Marvel characters. Stay close to the bible, stay close to the emotional story, and the rest is fun.”

And while this will be a standalone movie (cue fanboys crying about how we can’t have this without Spidey wearing the symbiote first) it will apparently have some ties to ‘The Amazing Spider-man’. Tolmach said “Look for the worlds to make sense with one another.”

Oscorp Industries has released these two new videos of Rhys Ifans as Doctor Curtis Connors. These videos are obviously after he has tested the serum on himself. They give a small glimpse at what to expect as Dr. Curtis Connors transforms into The Lizard.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ swings into theaters July 3, 2012.

This weekend a six minute preview for The Amazing Spider-Man was attached to Men In Black 3 IMAX screenings. Can’t make it to the movies? Can’t wait that long? Need something to get you even more excited than you already should be for this movie? Well, you’re kind of in luck. A low-res video of that preview has leaked online…check it out!

“The Amazing Spider-Man” swings into theatres on July 3rd, 2012.

Starting next month we will see the first crossover between the 616 universe and the Ultimate Universe. Peter Parker will come face to face with Miles Morales in what looks to be a major storyline. A story that will have an effect on both universes as well as many of the characters within these universes…

Bendis has stated that “Ultimate Aunt May and Ultimate Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy and Nick Fury are all involved in the story as well, so there are lot of extremely emotional moments that are going to happen that are almost surreal, but I think very cathartic. I think issue #4 was when Sara emailed me and said, “Alright, I cried. You got me.”

“Nick Fury had a lot going on with Ultimate Peter, and his connection to Miles, and what the right thing to do here is,” he adds. “Every one of these characters has deep, emotional investment into the Spider-Man mythos, some of them suffering quite a lot, and there may be room here for some catharsis that lets them move forward in a positive way. What is it like for a character like Gwen Stacy to find out there’s another universe out there with another Gwen Stacy?” If you haven’t read or heard by now…this crossover is caused by the fan favorite vix.llain…Mysterio “You will find out all of what’s going on with Mysterio, and how this is connected to the Ultimate Universe, in the very first issue. We give that up right away, because there’s so much else to get to. You will see what Mysterio has done and how he’s done it, and for long-time readers, they’ll be very excited; if you don’t know a damn thing about Mysterio, you’ll know exactly what’s going on.”

I’m pretty excited to read this one myself and if you want to check out the full interview…click the link below.

Now…C2E2 was awhile ago.

But one of the interviews  barely surfaced online yesterday.

In this interveiw Dan Slott went on to say…

“What happens in #700 — everything I’ve written my entire career in comics, nothing has had this big an effect on a character than what happens in “Spider-Man” #700. Other creators will say, “This will break the Internet in half,” and “This will do this” and “This will do that” — this is for real! This is my biggest whack at the comic book piñata. I’m breaking it and all the candy’s coming out. It’s not going back together. Something really seismic is going to happen in “Amazing Spider-Man” #700. So, you’re going to have “AvX” happen and shortly after, “Amazing Spider-Man” #700 and the Marvel Universe that you’re going to see after that — it’s not a reboot. There is no reboot. But the effects of “AvX” and the event that happens in “Spider-Man” #700 are so big that you’ll be looking at quite a different landscape after the seismic change”

And apparently Slott has stated that Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso has been in contact with other creators on other Marvel books to ensure they reflect whatever changes.

So, what is the big change? Who knows. I don’t even want to speculate here and i’m hoping its something awesome (because honestly ASM has been pretty awesome as of recent) But I definitely don’t feel the urge to get into “OMG WHAT IS IT?” because I want to be suprised.

I will say however (because I know someone will say it and make threads about it online) they are not going to kill Peter Parker. They already did that in the Ultimate line and that’d be the stupidest thing possible. I for one am looking forward to see where they go with this even though it is a good while away.

Today a new trailer for Amazing Spiderman was released. I’m excited for this movie and refuse to watch any trailers to keep my excitement high and “what I know” low. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch the trailer… JUST DON’T TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS!

LA LA LA LA LA LA I’M NOT LISTENING

Superhero Movie was everything it was supposed to be. It seems a moot point to try and review a film like this. What service does it provide to anyone to tear apart a film that nobody expects to be good? I mean, there is always the chance that we get one of those bonus movies – “wow, I had no idea that it was going to be like this…that was actually really good…”. Superhero movie was not surprisingly good. Nor was it surprisingly bad. It actually had a tight story that was told in a concise fashion so that this film, with dismal comedy in it, did not even feel too long. Now, this did not provide it with any merit because it was a direct clone of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man film. You can thank him for the story. Or Stan Lee. So to be fair to the genre of over-the-top silly comedies, I’ll judge it based on those parameters.

From 2 the people who brought us Scary movie 3-5 (5 is in the works), comes Superhero Movie. Rick Rykers is your everyday high school nerd who is obsessed with the girl of his dreams – who happens to be completely out of his league. On a field trip to a research lab, he is bitten by a radioactive dragonfly and begins developing the powers of (what other than a) dragonfly. He becomes a crimefighter known as Dragonfly. He fashions his costume too quickly for any novice to realistically do so, he confronts the school bully in a ridiculous fashion yet nobody suspects him of having any extraordinary powers, and his aunt has some horrible jokes coupled with even poorer delivery – it is a direct parody of Spider-Man. As a huge fan of Spider-Man, I’m able to appreciate the jokes that poke fun at how easily things seem to come to new superheroes in the campier comic book movies. This movie has a blast doing that. It essentially points out everything your dad, or skeptical best friend didn’t like about all the superhero movies that you do like. It did that very well. What it didn’t do was provide us with good jokes about those movies.

The villain, played by Christopher McDonald, is a spoof on Dock Ock and Green Goblin. He’s a scientist-turned-bad-guy after one of his experiments goes wrong. He starts sucking the life force from other people and begins a quest for immortality…only Dragonfly can stop him. This character would have been completely unfunny had it not been for Christopher McDonald. Something about watching him be disgusted, disappointed, or appaled always makes me laugh.

The “Mary Jane” of the story is played by AquaMarine‘s Sara Paxton (-who actually once snubbed me a friendly wave on set while I was an extra, so…wait, no, that’s fine, that’s totally – yeah, I guess that makes sense). She plays the character exactly as she was supposed to – hot as hell, sweet, and oblivious. She did a fine job, but seemed to exert all the acting power that she could, as Gilmore Girls’ Alex Bledel seems to be taking all the good roles she could have (kind of like how Joseph Gordon Levitt made it so that Edward Furlong fell off the map by being a “good actor”).

Here’s what got to me: if handled differently, this movie could have been a very apt and necessary poke at the barrage of superhero movies that are coming out lately. It was not a satire, or even an intellgent parody, though. It was laden with TMZ-style jokes and sight gags that were nothing short of predictable.

The parody, to a certain extent, is always bringing the original content into the ridiculous or the absurd. The higher brow way might be to go to the absurd, but it is hard to make a parody without being over-the-top silly. Look at Weird Al. He’s been around for twenty years now and is still making up his own lyrics to songs we all know and making them about ridiculous subjects. Admittedly – I loved Weird Al in grade school and his Trapped in the Closet parody is actually really funny. So what’s stopped this movie, and all the other spoof movies coming out, from reaching a point of cleverness, intelligence, or apt humor? Maybe it’s that the same people keep making them. These people keep thinking of them, making them, then putting them out and turning quite a profit off of them despite dismal reviews. As always, I blame America. With “Disaster Movie” on the horizon, the terrorists have already won. No pun intended.

Maybe what we need is a new team of fresh minds to do these spoof movies if they need to keep coming out. People who will rely more on universal humor that is timeless, like Top Secret!, Airplane, or Naked Gun. Humor that you can watch without any prior knowledge of the films being spoofed, or the time in which they were produced, while still laughing your ass off. I can watch any of the previously mentioned films and still think they are funny – and more importantly so can someone 10 years younger than me. Nobody will look back on Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet the Spartans, or any other spoof films by this team and laugh. Paris Hilton jokes are dated even now, imagine how irrelevant they will be in 10 years. The first two Scary Movies had it right. They just took that concept way too far and ran out of jokes. This movie is another example of that. We need some new people on these movies. They will continue to come out in all of our lifetimes in some way, shape or form. Since I have been around, they have been a fact of life, like taxes, death, or your parents calling at inconvenient times – we might as well demand better ones.

Now, when it comes to the post-Scary-Movie spoofs for this team, Superhero Movie is definitely their best. I’ve been unfortunate enough to have watched all of them. This film has a cohesive (although carbon-copied) story that maintains its focus until the end. It makes a lot of keen obsevations, but in ways that are horrible. It squeezes in character cameos (Xavier, Johnny Storm) as much as it can, with absolutely no reason or logic (or real funny moments) behind them. It has two running gags that get old, but are essentially funny at first(Stephen Hawking is one of the most recurring characters and always gets the shit end of the stick).

I wouldn’t recommend going out and actively buying this film, nor would I recommend renting it – unless you enjoy this sort of thing, of course. If it’s on TV or if someone you know is watching it, though, it could be kind of fun to sit (…or put yourself?) through. Just make sure you’re not the one staring blankly and sadly at your wallet after it’s over.
