Based on Stephen King’s book series, Sony Pictures’ upcoming film, The Dark Tower, just got its first trailer today! As one would expect from a movie based on King’s work, the feel of the snippets shown are gritty, mysterious, and action-packed. I am sure we can expect lots of explosions. Let’s take a look:

With Idris Elba as Roland Deschain the Gunslinger opposite Matthew McConaughey’s The Man In Black, the movie is looking promising. What did you think?

The Dark Tower heads to theaters on August 4. If you are itching for more information and updates, The Dark Tower also has dedicated Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.

Disney-Pixar’s upcoming film, Coco, celebrates the culture of Mexico and Dìa de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.  And while the story follows the young Miguel and his adventure in the Land of the Dead, I get the feeling Dante, Miguel’s dog, will be the one stealing the show. Yesterday, Pixar released an animated short, “Dante’s Lunch – A Short Tail,” and I am smitten. The pup is so darn cute! The entire short runs just shy of two minutes and is embedded below. You have no excuse not to watch. Trust me, you will thank me later.

The team behind the movie did their research, too. According to director Lee Unkrich, Dante is modeled after Mexico’s national dog, the Xolo. This breed of dog dates back to the Aztecs, who believed they were needed for spirits to make the transition to the afterlife. Even Dante’s lolling tongue is characteristic of the Xolo.

Coco is scheduled to hit theaters November 22 of this year. Are you excited for the movie? I know I am!

Many of today’s adult nerds can remember watching Power Rangers on their clunky television sets as children. The Amercan-ized version of the first season  is getting a very swanky movie remake and I can imagine many of us will be lining up to buy tickets. A shiny, new trailer was released today for the film. Let’s have a look.

With its somewhat darker tone, I feel like the film is catering more to the older fans who grew up with the series. That is not to say it looks bad by any means, quite the opposite in fact. I had my doubts initially but this trailer has piqued my interest in the title.

What was your reaction to this trailer? Let us know in the comments!

If you were a fan of Sailor Moon in the 90’s, you might remember Sailor Moon R: The Promise of the Rose, which was released on VHS back in the day. The Promise of the Rose is actually Sailor Moon R THE MOVIE and this January, select North American theaters will feature an HD remaster of the uncut version. I suspect it will be dubbed but am not positive. Adding to the excitement is the North American debut of the theatrical short, “Make Up! Sailor Guardians.”

Here is Viz Media’s teaser for the film:

Long before Mamoru found his destiny with Usagi, he gave a single rose in thanks to a lonely boy who helped him recover from the crash that claimed his parents. This long-forgotten friend, Fiore, has been searching the galaxy for a flower worthy of that sweet gesture long ago. The mysterious flower he finds is beautiful, but has a dark side- it has the power to take over planets. To make matters worse, the strange plant is tied to an ominous new asteroid near Earth! Faced with an enemy blooming out of control, It’s up to Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians to band together, stop the impending destruction and save Mamoru!

Information as to which theaters will be showing Sailor Moon R THE MOVIE have yet to be posted but it was noted that tickets go on sale soon. A special surprise gift will be given to ticket holders at the screenings (while supplies last, of course).

I usually like to build up to the whole “take a look a the trailer” thing but this one for Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is so good it needs no introduction.

You watched it, right? Good. So now for the summary part. This video admittedly doesn’t tip its hand in terms of plot but that is forgivable given that it is merely a sneak trailer rather than a full one. What we do see is the same humor and heart that made the original Guardians of the Galaxy so great. And come on, who didn’t miss that soundtrack?

There is clearly some romantic conflict between Peter Quill (although he prefers to known as Star-Lord) and Gamora. We also see snippets of Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Yandu, Nebula, and Baby Groot (who is adorable, by the way!). According to ComicBook.com, the film will follow the group’s journey to learn the truth about Peter’s father. There seems to be a focus on the concept of “family” with Gamora’s sister, Nebula, adding additional issues (the whole trying-to-kill-them thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.

A few days ago we brought you the first poster for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand. Now, we are proud to bring you the first trailer for the movie! He’s back!

The movie is directed by the acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon (I Saw The Devil) and co-stars Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzman and Peter Stormare. The Last Stand opens January 18th, 2013.

Here’s the first trailer for Zero Dark Thirty from Oscar winning director Katheryn Bigelow, director of The Hurt Locker (and the awesome Point Break). The film tells the story of Navy SEAL Team 6’s hunt for Osama Bin Laden.

The film stars Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt, Joel Edgerton and Mark Strong and opens December 19th.

Brad Pitt’s got a new movie coming out soon and it looks pretty damn good. We’ve got the first trailer for Killing Them Softly. Check it out and let us know what you think of it.

Jackie Cogan is a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game.

Killing Them Softly stars Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta and Sam Shepard. It’s directed by Andrew Dominik and opens October 12th.

We told you it was coming. We even gave you a teaser. Now it’s here! The first trailer for Paranormal Activity 4 has landed, are you ready to be scared of the dark all over again? Check out the new trailer…but be sure to keep a flash-light and your blankie close.

Paranormal Activity 4 is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman and opens on October 19th.

When I was in High School Perks of Being a Wallflower was my favorite book, in fact it was the book that got me into reading in the first place. I’d go as far to argue that the book is the modern day Catcher in the Rye. Almost ten years since the first time I read it the book still resonates with me. Stephen Chbosky’s novel encapsulated the awkwardness of the high school outcast in a believable and refreshing way.

When I read of the film adaptation I had mixed emotions. I loved this book to the point that I honestly did not want to see it ruined. Please I didn’t think the book would really work as a film. However with Chbosky writing and directing and Mr Mudd Productions producing it, I felt a little at ease about my beloved book.

Today the trailer has been released and I have to say, while there are a few things I don’t exactly love in the adaptation, I’m excited. Emma Watson’s american accent is perfect, the casting in general looks great and the movie looks like it’ll be right there with Garden State and Adventureland as one of my favorite coming-of-age films.

But that’s just my opinion. Watch the trailer and make an opinion of your own.

Director Timur Bekmambetov’s latest flick, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” is set to slay audiences on June 22. In anticipation of it’s undead upcoming release, 20th Century Fox has released two new trailers. The first trailer has some new footage in it and plays up Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address briefly shown in past trailers:

The second trailer is a red band trailer that was released last week and shows some more gore:

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” is based on the Seth Grahame-Smith novel of the same name and stars Benjamin Walker as honest Abe. The movie co-stars, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, and Rufus Sewell.

Today a new trailer for Amazing Spiderman was released. I’m excited for this movie and refuse to watch any trailers to keep my excitement high and “what I know” low. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch the trailer… JUST DON’T TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS!

LA LA LA LA LA LA I’M NOT LISTENING

How was everyone’s Easter? Did the bunny give you quality eggs and chocolates and marshmallow peeps? In honor of that big fluffy guy I decided that the newest Guilty Pleasure should be on a film that’s hard to find in stores but available on DVD for $0.25 new. 2007’s Bunny Whipped starring Joey Lauren Adams and Esteban Powell (whoever he is).

I heard of this movie when the mom and pops video store I worked at received a copy in the mail. I’m pretty sure I was the only person to ever rent it and most likely the only person that would have enjoyed it anyway.

Released straight to DVD a year before Marvel released Kick-Ass and three years before James Gunn made the brilliant Super (but 13 years after Blankman) comes Bunny Whipped, your typical everyday man becomes superhero movie. While Kick-Ass and Super try to show the realistic aspects of becoming a superhero, Bunny Whipped just uses it as an excuse to show off some weird side-characters.

This is not a good movie. I’ll admit it, but here at Guilty Pleasures we take the good with the bad (not unlike the facts of life). Bob Whipple is a sportswriter (never shown writing a column or going to an office building) who decides to become a super hero after white rapper Cracker Jack is murdered under mysterious circumstances. He becomes The Whip. Not only is his superhero name not creative but he goes on TV repeatedly as ‘Bob Whipple AKA the Whip – Superhero/Sportswriter’. It kind of defeats the purpose of an alias.

Bob is played by Esteban Powell who is so painfully bad in this role there are points I wondered if he wrote and directed the movie as well (it’s clearly an indie film so that wouldn’t be the least bit shocking). He did not however, those titles both belong to Rafael Riera who has yet to make a follow up film.

While the filmmaking and acting is shabby and rough at best, the movie is actually entertaining and better than it had any right to be. The best humor being all the rap related battles whether it’s Cracker Jack (who is murdered in concert while singing his song I’ve Been Shot so the audience doesn’t realize he’s killed til later), the Rick James look-a-like Kenny Kent (who’s song Lonely at the Top (the wah wah wah wah song) is getting terrible reviews) or Cracker Jack’s best friend Dirty old Skank’s tribute song to Cracker’s memory ‘Tap Dat Ass’ the jokes are better than the actor’s rap skills (which admittedly isn’t hard).

Elements of the movie are trying too hard to be quirky (like the beauty model ‘Miss Most Awesomely Awesome’) it mostly hits more than it flops.

Finally much like Chasing Amy the film manages to make you fall in love with Joey Lauren Adams even though her face looks 30 years older than the rest of her and she sounds like an 80’s cartoon character. However when Joey Lauren Adams is the biggest name you have in your movie, you know you’re working on a tight budget.

Paul Williams is someone who has probably written one of your favorite songs and you most likely don’t know who he is. In the 70’s Paul Williams was a singer/songwriter and while his originals where never huge hits when they were sung by The Carpenters, Three Dog Night or Kermit the Frog they went straight to number one.

This Sunday at SXSW Fest is the premiere of the documentary Paul Williams: Still Alive. The film unlike most documentaries seems more like an obsessive fan’s stalker tape based on the trailer (Think My Date With Drew meets Winnebago Man). When Stephen Kessler discovered his favorite deceased singer/songwriter and Tonight Show guest Paul Williams was actually alive and well, he made it his mission to find out what happened to this once adored renaissance man.

I’m bummed that I won’t be at SXSW to see this one so if you’re there, you should put this on your to do list.

When I was a kid Tim Burton was my favorite director. I didn’t know who he was but based on the fact that four of my favorite movies as a kid (Frankenweenie, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice and Batman) were all directed by him it’s obvious I was a fan of his style. Frankenweenie I caught on the Disney channel one day and I assumed it was an old film being that it was black & white. And now Burton is remaking the film in the stop-motion animation style he’s become known for.

The trailer looks great, full of the same energy and fun as the original. I find it funny that this film is being put out by Disney since the original Frankenweenie led to Burton being fired by Disney for ‘wasting company resources’ on something ‘too scary for kids’.
