So sit back and assemble because this episode is loaded!

Spider-man: Homecoming definitely looks like it’s going to be worth watching this summer.

I’ve been interested to see what Marvel was going to do with the Spiderman story after his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. The scenes with the young Spidey were hilarious as he switched between fangirling over the fact that he was SO CLOSE to the Avengers while simultaneously fighting them.

I’ve never seen a Spiderman movie that I actually liked. I always thought the Peter Parker they portrayed would be more likely to become a stalker or serial killer than a superhero. But Tom Holland comes across more as a cute, quirky, nerdy guy who just wants to become an Avenger. I also like the addition of Tony Stark (obviously played by Robert Downey Jr.) as a sort of surrogate uncle/mentor figure (although, I could just be happy to see RDJ on screen, and who can blame me?).
What do you think of this latest Spiderman reboot? Watch the trailer and tell us in the comments!

That’s right! Even though we’re still over a year out from the end of Phase 3, Marvel has already begun filming on Avengers: Infinity War!

To celebrate, the studio has released a teaser online featuring Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, and Chris Pratt talking about the start of filming the movie. They talk about how The Avengers will finally team up with The Guardians to face off against Thanos. Kevin Feige also talks about how Thanos won’t be like previous Marvel movie villains, as he will actually pose as a major threat. The video ends with a short clip of the infinity gauntlet being revealed. Check out the video for more below!

For those impatient, just think of it this way. We only have 3 more films until Infinity War. You can wait 3 more films right? No? Me too, but we really have no other choice. Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4th, 2018. Are you excited for the film? What upcoming phase 3 film are you most looking forward to? Tell us in the comments below!

It’s that wonderful time of the week again, new comic book day! Choosing what to read can be daunting (and expensive!). Don’t worry though, Geekscape has you covered. Each week we give our best bet for a comic book that you’re sure to enjoy. Let’s get into it!

Honorable Mentions

Oh baby! Marvel is bringing it this week! Thanos returns to the Marvel comics spotlight with the Jeff Lemire and Mike Deodato Jr. helmed, Thanos #1. We are being delivered a double-dose of Clone Conspiracy tie-ins with Amazing Spider-Man #21 and Silk #14. While I enjoyed the character in Spider-Verse, this’ll be the first actual Silk book I read! The Doctor Doom as Iron Man story continues in Infamous Iron Man #2. Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos continue their new run on Jessica Jones with issue #2. If you were a fan of their original run, or the Jessica Jones or Luke Cage Netflix series’, this book is a no-brainer.

As far as DC goes, the Superman and Batman books are amongst my favourite of the Rebirth titles right now and we get new issues of each, #11 and #11 (yeah, I put the ‘and’ in there so I could link them up 😂). I know I sound like a broken record but the father-son dynamic going on in Superman is so damn good. As far as Batman goes, we got Bane back, what’s not to love about that?

Image has a couple of titles out this week that you should be reading. First, we have Reborn #2, issue 1 didn’t let us down and here’s hoping Millar and Capullo can continue to wow us with issue 2 of their sci-fi fantasy. Next, comic book masters Brubaker and Phillip’s conclude the first arc of their latest book, Kill Or Be Killed #4.

Ether #1
📝 Matt Kindt
🎨 David Rubin

A science-minded adventurer gets mixed up in the mysteries of a fantasy world in this charming new adventure from an award-winning creative team. Boone Dias is an interdimensional explorer, a scientist from Earth who has stumbled into great responsibility. He’s got an explanation for everything, so of course the Ether’s magical residents turn to him to solve their toughest crimes. But maybe keeping the real and the abstract separate is too big a job for just one man.

If you’ve been reading this for awhile, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Matt and Sharlene Kindt’s Dept. H. This week we get a new Dark Horse Comics book from Kindt, Ether #1. With one science fiction fantasy title on our pull list in Reborn, you’d think there wouldn’t be room for another but with Kindt’s name on it, I can’t imagine it not being awesome. His love for comic books is apparent in everything I’ve read of his so far, he takes advantage of everything the medium as to offer. There’s no reason to think we won’t do it again with Ether.

Regardless of how you feel about last night’s election, there is one thing that can’t be disputed: there are a lot of great new comic books out today! Oh man, so many that I’m excited for! Let’s start rattling them off.

Joshua Williamson and Felipe Watanabe’s Flash is kicking ass and kicks off a new storyline this week. The most exciting and refreshing of the ongoing Batman titles, All Star Batman, has it’s third issue hitting shelves today. If you’ve been Gerard Way’s Young Animal line of comics (I have been, but they’re a little out there), their latest, Mother Panic is out today.

Marvel’s new Invincible Iron Man (Iron Woman? .. Mmm, no.. Ironheart!) makes its debut this week, even though I’m not a big fan of the trend of new characters taking on the mantle of old heroes, I think this title will be worth checking out.

Mosaic, starring Morris Sackett, the brand new Marvel super hero, is rolling onto issue #2 today. First one was solid, and left me wanting more.

I want to say I’m the most excited for Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, where Gerry Conway is going to be taking the character back to the roots of what makes Peter Parker, Peter Parker, because that is SO up my alley… but that won’t be the first title I read…

The Clone Conspiracy #2
📝 Dan Slott
🎨 Jim Cheung

Yeah, no surprise here. I’m just hooked on this story line, I can’t help it! Am I a fan of Peter Parker bank rolling the entire Avengers team over in Avengers #1? Not really. Does it indicate that he might become a lot less relatable? Maybe. BUT Slott has been delivering great issue after great issue here (including some very powerful “Peter Parker” moments) so I’m not worried at all… yet ☺️

Who else will come back from the dead!? Does someone have a bingo card? Someone should make a bingo card.

Let’s mix it up…

Doctor Strange: The Oath
📝 Brian K. Vaughan
🎨 Marcos Martin

Well, if jumping into Spider-Man isn’t your thing, maybe you’re looking for a little Doctor Strange in your life? Comixology has you covered, their running a sale on Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin’s iconic Strange story, The Oath ($1 for each of the five issues). Strange simultaneously tries to find the person who nearly murdered him as well as find a cure to Wong’s terminal cancer.

So that feels like kind of like an advertisement but hey, it’s a good story and I didn’t want to leave you without a Best Bet for two weeks in a row!

And with all that Stranger Things 2 news over the past week, how about checking out Vaughan’s Paper Girls too. Sorry, too lazy to find a link 😝

What books did you pick up today?

Happy reading.

It’s that wonderful time of the week again, new comic book day! Choosing what to read can be daunting (and expensive!). Don’t worry though, Geekscape has you covered. Each week we give our best bet for a comic book that you’re sure to enjoy. Let’s get into it.

Honorable Mentions

Ok, I’ll come out right away and admit that I’m kind of fudging my answer a bit this week. Amazing Spider-Man #20 is by far the book I’m most excited for this week, but this article will get pretty boring if every week you are seeing Spider-Man titles in the Most Excited For slot, so alas, it is only getting an honourable mention. If you aren’t in the know, THE CLONE CONSPIRACY has begun, and Doctor Octopus is back (and not as Spider-Man)!

Speaking of villains becoming heroes, Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev are introducing a new Iron Man and his name is Doctor Doom in Infamous Iron Man #1 . We don’t know what happens to Tony Stark in Civil War II’s conclusion, but it looks like he is going pretty far off the map.

Mark Waid and Chris Samnee are killing it on Black Widow, the seventh issue comes out today and the other six are definitely worth checking out! You’ll probably see this book on a lot of Best of 2016 lists.

In the DC Universe, the Batman titles are moving into the post NIGHT OF THE MONSTER MEN event, Bane is moving into the spotlight in the newest Batman book and we are about to learn a whole lot more about Raptor in this week’s Nightwing.

Now let’s move on to the publisher responsible for the book I’m most excited for this week…

Most Excited For

We haven’t spoke of Dark Horse in awhile and it turns out this is a perfect week to do so. This week we have new issues of three of their greatest ongoing series’. We have a new issue of Cullen Bunn’s Harrow County, which has fallen into a bit of a slump after the first couple of story arcs, but it still makes for great reading. I’ll read this over his recent X-Men work any day 😊. A new issue Jeff Lemire’s Black Hammer is out, this is the complete comic book package; tight writing, sick art, and captivating characters. And finally…

Dept. H #7
📝 Matt Kindt
🎨 Sharlene Kindt

From New York Times best-selling MIND MGMT creator Matt Kindt comes an exciting new undersea sci-fi mystery. Mia is a special investigator hired to uncover possible sabotage taking place at a deep-sea research station. What she finds is a mind-blowing crime scene filled with suspects with terrible secrets, strange deep-sea creatures, and an impending flood!

This is comic books at their finest. Matt Kindt’s love of the medium bleeds through the pages. Each issue drives the story forward and teaches us more about the characters, growing our attachment to them. The water colours in this book are absolutely gorgeous, some of the best art you’ll see in a comic book this year. The back issues are only $1.99 each, you gotta read this series!

Best Bet

No best bet this week. Seriously consider checking out Dept. H.

Fresh off the heels of  the highly successful Jungle Book adaptation this year, Disney is giving Iron Man and Jungle Book 2016 director Jon Favreau, the keys to the Disney kingdom. Today the company announced that Favreau will be heading up the live action Lion King movie. No solid release date is planned, but it’s assumed that the film will take advantage of The Jungle Book 2016’s mouth watering visuals, so that’s something to be excited for.

Are you excited for this live action adaption, or do you think that animated Disney films just don’t work out well in live action. Tell us in the comments below!

Welcome to Weekly Reads! It’s your little dose of comic book goodness that focuses on some aspect of my comic book reading!

📚🏊📚

That’s right, we are swimming in a pool of awesome comic books this week! Let’s talk about them!

Ongoing Reads

Brian K. Vaughan’s PAPER GIRLS is back with it’s 6th issue! Vaughan tells the story of a group of 12-year-old paper girls who get caught up in some pretty crazy apocalyptic scenario. Aside from a ton of awesome 80’s references, there are also some cool time travel mechanics. There are so many questions I’m dying to find the answers to. I’m really digging Cliff Chiang’s poppy art style too. You won’t want to pick up this book without reading #1-5 first, but they’re definitely worth it.

Jason Aaron and Giulia Brusco’s THE GODDAMNED is a book I want to like a lot more than I actually do. Brusco’s work is breathtaking throughout the series, the sense of bareness and desolation that his settings matchings the book’s tone perfectly. As always, I think my lack of enjoyment for the title stems from some bad expectations on my part. The main character, Cain, just isn’t who I expected him to be. He has done too much crying and not enough kicking ass… It looks like that might change next issue though. I can’t recommend this series because I’m just not a fan, but I think there are a lot of people out there who love and would love THE GODDAMNED.

The second issue of THE PUNISHER was pretty standard Punisher stuff; the Punisher kills a lot of people a lot of different ways. Well, mostly by shooting them. The books ending left me in shock though, it’s a moment that you only see in the medium of comic books. Before you ask, no, Frank Castle didn’t hail hydra.

Dan Slott and Giuseppe Camuncoli’s run on Spider-Man continues with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #13. If you like seeing super heroes get into school yard fights, this issue is for you. Iron Man and Spider-Man squabble and insult each other while Miles gets into a little bit of trouble with Regent. I can’t see myself getting too invested in this storyline, I just want Dead No More, but we still have 3 more issues to go.

New Reads

Superman Rebirth 1

DC’s Rebirth is in full effect! Last week brought us four Rebirth issues; Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and Green Arrow. These issues feel a lot like Free Comic Book Day books, it’s mostly just setup for things to come. If you aren’t familiar with the DC Universe (like me!) these books are still accessible. Even at the new, lower, price point, I don’t think any of these Rebirth issues are worth picking up, just read a summary instead. If you’re on a tight budget, just pick one of the characters and roll with that. Or wait a month or two and find out what book everyone is loving. Got no shortage of cash? Read em all! Nothing has wowed me yet, I’m just enjoying the newness of it all.

A simple guide for getting into DC Comics:
1. Listen The Geekscape DC Universe: Rebirth Special
2. Accept that Ian Kerner is human and not a walking comic book encyclopedia.
3. Pick one character (or more) that interests you and start reading.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Pink 001-000

BOOM! Studios’ Power Ranger line-up is expanding with this week’s MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: PINK #1 by the creative team of Brenden Fletcher, Kelly Thompson, and Daniele Di Nicuolo. This book is pretty much what you see is what you get. It isn’t on the same level as the other Power Rangers book but if you like the universe this is probably worth picking up, otherwise, you’re probably better spending your money elsewhere.

Civil War II 1

Amongst all the DC Rebirth, Marvel quietly began their big summer event with CIVIL WAR II #1. All the big surprises took place in the Free Comic Book Day issue and this book shows us what led up to it and the aftermath. We won’t get into spoilers, but basically a new inhuman is discovered that can see the future, a couple of characters die, and everyone is conflicted over this. There are A LOT of books involved in this arc, and right now I’m worried that it’s going to be hard to keep up with if you aren’t reading everything. This book did nothing to calm my worries.

Invincible Iron Man 10

On that note, I decided to read some more Brian Michael Bendis this week and checked out INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #10. That didn’t do me much good. Unless I’m missing something, this book is lagging behind the rest of Marvel’s ongoing stuff. Mary Jane isn’t even working for Stark yet, which we are seeing in both Civil War II and the Amazing Spider-Man books. So basically we are getting some back story explaining the events that took place on Free Comic Book Day and Civil War II #0, which I guess makes sense since it’s “Road to Civil War II.” Anyways, long story short, it’s frustrating to be reading these things out of order and for me, just makes me feel crazy for not just reading in trade.

Next Time

More Rebirth! More Civil War! The Fix #3!

Here it is! Marvel’s biggest movie of the year! ‘Captain America: Civil War’! But will it end up being THE biggest movie of the year? Regardless, it’s reason enough for a Geekscape Special… and that means Ian Kerner guests on the show to get into the nitty gritty of it all! What worked? What didn’t? Where does this land on the in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what does it mean going forward? Really, this movie is huge so strap yourselves in for quite the discussion… and a ton of spoilers obviously!

Briefly: We published our review for the film a few days back, but with just a few days to go until Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War hits theatres, the Marvel marketing machine is out in full force.

A new clip for the film has just hit the web, via Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s visit to Good Morning America. The clip has The Vision and Scarlett Witch talking all about what they don’t know about the Mind stone.

You can take a look at the clip below (along with the full Good Morning America segment), and be sure to let us know what you’re most excited to see in the film!

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War isn’t just a refreshing change of pace from Marvel’s routine formula in its winning franchise strategy, it is simply a great movie. Though exhausting in how it juggles its staggering ensemble cast, Civil War is a thrilling, heartfelt, and often times funny smash and bash rumination on accountability and oversight in the 21st century. Though it doesn’t come away completely unscathed, when the smoke clears Civil War will be celebrated as a total victory for Marvel and the entire superhero genre.

Inevitably, no matter how close you get with co-workers, friends, and family, eventually you want to punch one of them in the face. The premise behind Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and loosely based on the 2006 comic of the same name, is of course more complex than that. But the rage is palpable for those of us without superpowers: Following another international incident that causes brutal bystander casualties, the privately-operated Avengers — led by the square jawed but complex Capt. Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America (Chris Evans) — are coerced by the world’s governments to come under multinational oversight. Former Avenger and billionaire Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is the right kind of type-A personality who leads several of the Marvel heroes’ support while Rogers opposes, refusing to shift blame to others. The two titans of Marvel clash, attract new superheroes to the cause — Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) — while a neutral enemy plays their card in a terribly distracted world.

The 13th film in the ever-expanding Marvel “Cinematic Universe,” Civil War is a retroactive “fix” or a sneaky jab to critics who complain these films fetishize 9/11 imagery for spectacle. Civil War re-contextualizes the sweeping victories in 2012’s The Avengers and 2014’s The Winter Soldier into something more consequential. Maybe Hulk smashing does cause real damage. After the mind-numbing death orgy of 2013’s Man of Steel and its succeeding Batman v SupermanCivil War is like a sincere apology on behalf of the genre to a weary audience. And as an apology, it presents breathtaking, incredibly choreographed action and some really knee slapping hysterics.

Of all the things to consider Civil War, one would assume “funny” could be the last adjective. But Civil War is light, very light, without treading on childish goofiness (though I personally like when superhero movies embrace that). Even in the middle of jaw-dropping action there’s time for a joke, and it’s never forced or even insincere. Step away from the politically presumptuous comic book from Mark Millar and what Civil War is is an excuse for superheroes to fight. Marvel is, always, an obscenely budgeted, delicately crafted, A-list starring version of a Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers script. And yet the magic of Marvel is that it revels in that joy without posturing, or even feeling embarrassed by its kitschy roots.

Positively, Civil War is stacked with characters. Regrettably, it juggles them so much it’s nearly tiresome. Civil War by its nature will attract fans who could tell you everything about T’Challa and Wakanda before Chadwick Boseman walks on screen (Boseman is GREAT, by the way, and the Black Panther costume is pure eye candy), but in the nearly two and a half hour running time you witness a revolving door of characters, who all come with their own arcs, backgrounds, and motivations. For so long one could skip the last Marvel movie, but Civil War will punish that. The Russos should be commended for the tight wire act they display with the film’s characters, but it’s not perfect and could never be. So those who didn’t bother with Ant-Man or, more importantly, Age of Ultron will find themselves at a loss with who’s who.

I have no where to put this sentence, but it bears mentioning: Sebastian Stan’s Bucky, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier, is very much the centerpiece of Civil War in a way he never was in the original comic book. And Stan performs reliably well as a cold (excuse the pun), detached puppet for a darker enemy. Everything extends like a web around Bucky, whose presence is very much why almost everything in Civil War works.

Speaking of “webs” and working, Civil War has introduced us to our best Spider-Man yet. Tom Holland is a real delight as the teenaged Peter Parker, considerably younger and whimsical than previous actors Andrew Garfield and Tobey McGuire, who Holland outshines. He’s charismatic but comfortable in the role, as comfortable as the bright, vibrant suit he wears as the webslinger. The film really does speed through Spider-Man’s “origin” to the point it’s almost barely mentioned — and yeah, because we know it already — but it’s there and you can bet it’ll be explored at length in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Civil War is a lot of things: Funny, tense, well-paced, exhilarating — go in to the German airport fight scene knowing nothing, it’s better that way. It also falls victim to some of the trappings of the Marvel Universe. The stakes are tangible and, most importantly, there, but they also somehow aren’t due to the inevitable sequels and bombastic Infinity War on the horizon. Still, Civil War is a real win for the summer movie season. No matter the reasons why they fight or who wins — and there is a winner! — who doesn’t relate to wanting to sock the annoying one in the car complaining about where you’re going to eat, or a co-worker being smug in the email thread or Slack channel? You don’t need superpowers to maybe think these guys are still just human.

Captain America: Civil War gets 4 1/2 out of 5.

You read that right! We have our first confirmed appearance of an Avenger in the newest Spider-Man reboot. For those of you who have read Civil War, Iron Man and Spidey have a sort of relationship where Stark gives Parker some new tech to go with a new suit.

IronSpider

For those of you keeping count, this DOES NOT count as one of those contractual appearances Robert Downey Jr. has with Marvel. Instead, Downey was able to negotiate a new contract with Marvel and Sony that makes this entirely separate. Downey will also reprise his role as Iron Man in Infinity War parts one and two.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to release July 7, 2017!

Briefly: Yes!

Sure, that Civil War featurette that ET debuted this morning was pretty cool, but this is wayway better.

First of all, it’s an entirely new, far more dramatic trailer for Captain America: Civil War. The video features a ton of new footage, and seems starkly (ha) more dramatic than the first trailer for the anticipated film.

I already like it more than I liked Age of Ultron.

Oh, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man shows up.

Yeah, I’ll shut up now. Watch the trailer below, and be sure to let us know how excited you are. Captain America: Civil War hits theatres on May 6th!

Briefly: With just a couple of months to go until Captain America: Civil War finally hits theatres, ET has just debuted a fantastic new featurette for the film detailing some of Civil War‘s spectacular stunts.

And also the incredible chemistry of Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Captain America: Civil War hits theatres on May 6th!

Briefly: We couldn’t be more excited for Captain America’s next adventure (well, along with most of the Avengers and a slew of new characters as well), and following that gorgeous Super Bowl spot from just a couple of weeks back, Empire has just debuted a few slick new images from the film, including our first look at Frank Grillo’s Crossbones.

During the Super Bowl (the annual event where fans across the country gather around their TV sets and watch all of the latest, greatest ways that companies can sell them products), a new teaser for Captain America: Civil War gave us some insight on what we can expect when Cap and Iron Man come to blows on May 6th.

The spot expands the details on the conflict between the former teammates over The Winter Soldier, and also features other prominent characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Vision and Black Panther (YES!). The short teaser squeezes in as much action as they possibly can in less than a minute; so many explosions; so much awesome so many hashtags…

Check out the trailer below, then let us know what side you’ll be one when the film kicks off the Summer movie season. As always, make sure to check back with us as more news rolls in!

Did You Know Gaming? is one of my favorite lunch break time-killers at work. Their 5-10 minute videos have unveiled the making and secrets of nearly a hundred prolific games, franchises, and consoles and it’s my favorite way to occupy my attention while I eat a pastrami. They’ve recently introduced a new series, “Unseen64” which delves into the doomed productions of cancelled video games. Their newest video reveals an amazing what-could-have been: Marvel’s The Avengers, which would have been a first-person action game with a story written by veteran comic scribe Brian Michael Bendis.

I’m really stunned by how well the FP aspects would have worked without the “S” part. None of the Avengers (except maybe Iron Man) would have shooting mechanics, but based on the footage from early builds it actually looks like it would have been a ton of fun. Each of the playable Avengers — Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man primarily, with Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel being unlockable — essentially fulfill a class not unlike *Team Fortress 2*, with everyone relying on each other’s strengths to make up for their own shortcomings. That’s teamwork! Which should be at the heart of most comic book games (Batman excluded).

Also notable is how the game isn’t based on the film, but The Avengers property with designs inspired by Joss Whedon’s movie and an original story riffing on Bendis’ Secret Invasion storyline. The tie-in video game quietly died a few years ago and none of us really noticed.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me about cancelled video games is how invincible they should have been. You’d think that a video game tied to one of the most lucrative films in history would have been cancellation-proof, but THQ’s financial woes were ultimately what killed the project. A more recent example is P.T., aka Silent Hills which its ingredients should have allowed it to survive: genre auteur Guillermo del Toro, Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima, and Norman Reedus, the breakout star of the world’s most popular cable series The Walking Dead. How on Earth do these things just fall through the cracks?

Whoa. On Tuesday, December 8th Marvel teams up with Amazon on an exclusive offering to knock your Captain America socks clean off! The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two collection drops only on Amazon with all new bonus content, film replicas and more. In addition, each film features custom disc sleeves from artist Matt Ferguson.

Geekscape got a sneak peek at these alternate covers to share with you—and they’re freaking awesome. Go ahead feast your eyes and start squirreling away your pennies!

This collection is not messing around—it doesn’t seem like this is going to be the “pretty good one,” only to be replaced next year by the “super awesome edition.” This collection already has all the goods I look for in my film collecting proclivities—and then a little more! I ended up buying a 3D TV several Black Fridays ago when it was the same price as the standard model and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. As a result, if a movie I want comes out on Blu-ray and there’s a 3D version—that’s the one I buy. That and so much more is already baked into this collection! In their own words:

The limited edition, 13-Disc Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection invites you to hold the greatest power in the cosmos in your grasp – an orb containing one of the legendary Infinity Stones! Plus Blu-ray 3D™, Blu-ray™ and Digital Copies of all Phase 2 films, in collectible packaging designed by artist Matt Ferguson. This set overflows with stunning Marvel memorabilia, including a gold-foiled page from the book of Dark Elves, an ancient drawing from the Morag vault, Avengers and S.T.R.I.K.E. uniform patches, a replica of the Tony Stark Tattoo from Marvel’s Iron Man 3, and much more!

I mean, come on!—there’s a freakin’ ancient drawing from the Morag vault! What more can you possibly ask for?!

Personally, there were some moments I didn’t fully connect with in this film collection—but honestly, I take the blame on those for the time being. Maybe I was in the wrong mood when I saw them or something—planning to give Iron Man 3Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron further viewings before making my final call on them. (Especially after getting a better understanding of what went into this intricate web Marvel is weaving as best they can during this release event.) However, here’s the thing—even if every film isn’t up to the snuff of say, Guardians of the Galaxy, they’re still better than most other offerings in their genre; meaning—you can’t lose, even if you lose, with these films. You will be properly entertained come hell or high water!

This unveiling comes properly on the heels of the release of the premiere trailer for the first film in Phase Three, Captain America: Civil War, this week. Whoowhee!—that trailer’s some dramatic adrenaline right there.

And now, my lovelies, because these are just the sort of details I hunt down when considering investing in a collection to add to my. . . collection, here are all the technical details they’ve provided us at this time:

Star Wars wasn’t the only property getting plenty of love during the D23 video game panel! While on stage, Disney Interactive finally delivered details on the previously announced Marvel Play Set coming to Disney Infinity 3.0.

Titled “Marvel Battlegrounds”, this set will be unique in the sense that it will allow 4 player local co-op in series history. Previously, four players was only possible online and in the Toy Box, but this Play Set looks to put all of your Marvel figures to good use, especially when they’re adding two more to play with.

Ripped straight from this summer’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the titular villain will be getting his own figure to use in the set and the toy box alongside Hulkbuster Iron Man. Want to rule the world? Or save it? Or maybe you want to ride in tea cups or have a friendly race through Gravity Falls? Regardless on how you use them, Marvel fans are sure to be thrilled to know that the comic book universe hasn’t been abandoned for a galaxy far, far away.

Take a look at the latest screenshots and trailer below and tell us what else you hope gets added! Will you be rounding out your Avengers collection with these new figures? And will you be getting together with the family to explore the Marvel universe in this new set? Let us know in the comments!

Briefly: We all received a fantastic treat late last week when the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron leaked online, DAYS before it’s scheduled launch on last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel blamed it on Hydra, which was a hilarious and lighthearted way of looking at the leak. Not wanting to leave any of us S.H.I.E.L.D. fans hanging, the studio attached a special look at the film on last night’s episode. If you we’re lucky enough to be in Hall H at SDCC this past Summer, than it’s nothing new for you, but it’s exciting to see the scene online and official.

It’s also fantastic to see the look on Thor’s face when Cap almost lifts the hammer, and now we can see it over and over and over again. The rest of the video is pretty much the trailer we’ve already seen, but I’m not going to say no to watching that one again. Take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’re excited!

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theatres on May 1st, 2015.

LITERALLY NONE OF THESE WORDS MATTER. THESE ARE JUST WORDS. WHAT YOU WANT IS BELOW. But play along, please?

Earlier tonight the the much-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer was leaked online. It was supposed to air during next week’s Mavel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But because this is 2014, of course it didn’t! After a pretty amusing, self-deprecating tweet, Marvel has decided “eff it, let’s just do it.” The trailer is now on their official YouTube page, in crystal clear high-definition.

The trailer has all the neat stuff I kept hearing about from San Diego Comic-Con this summer. The Hulkbuster, an Avengers party, Ultron himself. It’s all really neat.

My favorite part, though, is what James Spader’s Ultron (and it’s so unmistakably him) says in the trailer: “You want to protect the world. But you don’t want it to change.” There is an ongoing, neverending debate that I love getting into about the true nature of superheroes. As protectors of the status-quo, what is their role when the world needs changing? Not that I expect Age of Ultron to be political in any shape or form, but the movie (I hope) will continue to change the superhero genre and begin to ask questions we, the dedicated superhero nerds who hold up this art to a higher level than most, might be uncomfortable to answer.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in 2015 and it will make so much money.

It’s safe to say that Jon Favreau’s humble, yet significant, career has officially come full circle. After a small onscreen debut in the sports classic, Rudy, Favreau cemented his place in Hollywood as writer and co-star of the 1996 indie hit, Swingers. Almost two decades have passed since Favreau first made his mark on the industry, and since then he’s helped birth the superhero franchise, Iron Man, as director of the first two installments and a supporting actor in all three. But how did this gifted filmmaker decide to follow up his bloated career as a blockbuster director? Favreau returns to his roots with Chef, a modest festival darling that’s captured the hearts and stomachs of audiences world-wide.

Carl Casper (Favreau) is a culinary artist immensely dedicated to his craft. However, when the most powerful food critic on the internet comes to taste his cuisine, Casper panders to his employer’s demands and prepares the same boring menu he’s grown to resent. After a negative review of the restaurant drops and leads to a social networking feud that spirals out of control, Casper decides to pursue his creative passion by purchasing a food truck. With the help of his best friend, Martin (John Leguizamo), and young son, Percy (Emjay Anthony), Casper is finally able to discover happiness and piece his entire life back together.

As an Audience Award Winner at this year’s Tribecca Film Festival, Chef is a delectable and savory delight from writer, director and star, Jon Favreau. Much like its fresh ingredients sliced, diced and marinated on screen, Chef is a winning combination of various well-executed components. Everything from a heartwarming screenplay, to a brilliant cast and back again to its visionary filmmaker, Chef has all the makings of a sure-fire hit. For starters, Favreau trained extensively in the kitchen with renowned L.A. chef, Roy Choi, and the practice pays off as he both looks and acts the part. But not only is the ambiance authentic in the film, we’re also given fine-tuned and carefully constructed characters that add an enormous amount of soul to the feature. Carl Casper lives and breathes a passion for his craft, which is conveyed brilliantly with a meticulous attention to detail by the actor and filmmaker. The audience can’t help but share in his love and adoration for the culinary arts and it’s a transcending feat. This exemplary element, coupled with a flavorful charm and wit that’s unwavering throughout the entire film, transforms Chef into an undeniable treat.

Although the feature is chock-full of redeeming qualities, Chef suffers in two specific areas. One irritating aspect of the film is the continuous references to major social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook. It’s fair to say that, at times,Chef feels like a near two-hour advertisement for these digital pipelines. In addition to an astounding amount of product placement, Favreau’s indie sensation is given an almost unjust “Hollywood Ending” that feels slightly unnecessary to the central purpose of the film. Yet, to be fair to the movie, this overly sentimental resolution is rapidly tied up with a pretty little bow in no more than three to five minutes. While its miscues are small in stature and forgivable, Chef does a remarkable job of pleasing the audience.

As the summer months get under way and big-budget blockbusters overtake our local theatres, Jon Favreau’s Chef stands out as a fine example of top-notch filmmaking. The feature is a premier character study with a wholesome and good-natured moral at its core. Entertaining and easy to enjoy, it’s worth seeking out one of 2014’s finest offerings.

The new Marvel CG Animation film Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United had its ups and downs, sometimes literally. The film, while interesting, had a bit of a dull plot, but it’s still worth watching for fans of the characters.

The story is simple: Hulk is kidnapped by Hydra with the help of Abomination and has his power stolen to fuel a new weapon. When the weapon fails it creates a being of pure energy, Zzzax, who then begins to steal power from the earth. Iron Man tries to stop it using his technology, and Hulk tries with brute force, but soon the pair realize the only way to defeat the new villain is to team up.

One of my problems with the film was Hulk’s sudden ability to form fully functioning sentences. While fighting Abomination, the two have full-on intelligent conversations. Then, as he fights and later teams up with Iron Man, it’s tough to get used to his language and sentence structure. Overall, he sounds much more intelligent than the Hulk most are used to.

The plot itself was slow-moving at times. Zzzax is a boring villain as far as bad guys go. He basically is just an energy ball at first who is trying to steal all energy he can find. Eventually, he takes over a few of Stark’s suits, creating havoc, but later begins to mold himself into a human-like body. He’s a bit boring, mostly just using electric currents to attack both heroes when he wasn’t in a suit.

What I liked was the pure fun of it. Sure, Hulk is suddenly smart, and Iron Man isn’t as clever as he usually is (he leans on Jarvis a bit more than usual). The humor and one-liners kept the slow plot going a bit, especially Hulk’s random attacks on Iron Man. Also enjoyable was seeing the suit Iron Man eventually fits Hulk with.

Overall, the film was 2/5 stars. If you’re a fan of the animated films, definitely check it out, otherwise you’re probably safe to skip this one.

Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United is available now on Amazon.

Warning: The following review contains spoilers!

Marvel Knights’ new release, Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk, based on the comic series of the same name, is a highly entertaining variation of the storyline. Writer Damon Lindelof (Lost, Star Trek: Into Darkness) brings the plot to film with the help of artist Leinil Francis Yu (Secret Invasion) and colorist Dave McCaig.

The story is simple. The Hulk was sentenced to death for murdering over 600 people, 60+ of them being children, so Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. killed him with a nuclear bomb. The problem is, it turns out that’s not enough to kill Hulk. Fury then enlists Wolverine to find Bruce Banner and kill him.

The catch? There’s a little bit more going on behind the scenes, as usual with S.H.I.E.L.D. The Hulk’s ex, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, just might still be in love with him, and her coworker may have just solved the problem with Banner’s Hulk Formula.

http://youtu.be/CThLutcEr-M

As Wolverine tries to track him down, the storyline jumps from him to Fury to Hulk/Banner’s points of view, which at times can begin to get a little frustrating. And the episode that focuses on Banner’s travels and struggles with anger is a bit slow-moving. Other than that, the film is fun. The addition of humor to the storyline really helped, with small quips and jokes that are reminiscent of The Avengers. If for no other reason, it’s worth watching just to find out the answer to the age-old joke, “What does Wolverine do to get through the metal detectors at the airport?”

And if that’s not enough, no matter how badass you thought Wolverine was in the past, the opening of this film will prove you wrong when he is torn in half by Hulk and crawls four miles to the top of a mountain to get back his legs. Intense!

Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine incorporates a few other fan-favorites, such as Tony Stark, Captain America and a certain female who is large an green as well. The references to pop culture and films (Star Wars, for example) add some fun to the storyline.

This is part of a series of comic adaptations Shout! Factory and Marvel Knights has released. The only other one I’ve personally seen was Astonishing X-Men: Unstoppable, which was decent. It definitely does take some time to get used to the limited movement in the artwork, especially when compared to everyday cartoons and animated films.

Marvel Knights: Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk, is available September 10th and can be preordered on Amazon. Or, you could always enter to win a copy!

Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine scores a worthy 4/5.

Just because Iron Man 3 didn’t turn out as well as we’d all hoped, doesn’t mean that we wanted to see Robert Downey Jr. retire from the role. It’s been rumoured for some time that, since his contract was complete, the prominent actor would be leaving the Marvel cinematic universe.

You can put those worries to rest. Marvel just announced that Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man… at least for The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3.

That’s his whole contract. Two new Avengers films, so it looks like we won’t be seeing another solo Iron Man flick any time soon. Take a look at the press release below, and let us know how you feel about the news!

“I am Iron Man.”

Tony Stark’s famous closing line to the very first Iron Man film takes on new life today as Marvel is pleased to announce the signing of Robert Downey, Jr. to reprise the role of the “billionaire, genius, playboy, philanthropist.”

Under the two-picture agreement, Downey will star as Tony Stark/Iron Man in “Marvel’s The Avengers 2” and “Marvel’s The Avengers 3.” Downey is represented at CAA by Bryan Lourd, Jim Toth and Matt Leaf and by his attorneys Tom Hansen and Stewart Brookman of the firm Hansen Jacobson.

Downey, Jr.’s last two Marvel films, 2012’s “Marvel’s The Avengers” and this year’s “Iron Man 3,” rank as two of the top five grossing films of all time, collectively earning over $2.7 billion worldwide to date.

“Marvel’s The Avengers 2” is being written and directed by Joss Whedon. Featuring favorites from the first Avengers film and new Marvel characters never before seen on the big screen, “Marvel’s The Avengers 2” is slated to begin production in March 2014 and open in theaters May 1, 2015.

Another day, another new TV spot for Iron Man 3. Most of the spots feature only footage recycled from other previews, but they certainly haven’t wavered my excitement. I can’t wait to get in line for this one.

Check out the new spot below, and let us know what you think! Iron Man 3 hits North American theatres on May 3rd!

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

While the official start of Marvel’s Phase Two is just days away for us North Americans, the Hollywood elite (and plenty of others too by the looks of it) are getting their fill of Tony Stark early… as in right now!

Yahoo! is currently streaming the red carpet event, which looks like an absolute blast. All of the film’s stars look to be in attendance, and I’ve spotted Stan Lee a few times too! Check out the live feed below, and let us know if you’re excited for the film!
