Could ‘Finding Dory’, ‘Alice In Wonderland’ and more ‘Star Wars’ Be Coming To ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’?

During Disney’s first Disney Infinity NEXT presentation, the official news came to no surprise to most of us, since the new Marvel and Baloo figures were leaked last month. Despite the excitement of the reveal, (or disappointment over being spoiled,) the most newsworthy news was hinted at towards the closing moments of the video.

Alluding to us taking a trip to the sea and walking “through the looking glass,” this could only mean that Finding Dory and Alice in Wonderland will be making their Toys To Life debut sometime this year. Why Finding Dory and not The Little Mermaid, Atlantis, or any other Disney property that takes us underwater? Earlier in the presentation, it was confirmed that 2016 will get one Pixar, Disney, Marvel AND Star Wars expansion, hinting at the possibility that 3.0 will be further built on rather than releasing a 4.0. Since Alice is getting a movie later this year and was clearly teased, that leaves Finding Dory as our best bet.

But what’s even more exciting is the confirmation of more Star Wars content. While it likely will be based around this year’s Rogue One, I would love Rebels to get the full campaign treatment after releasing so many figures inspired by the animated series.

Black Panther, Baloo And More Revealed For ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’ Courtesy Of Retailer Leak!

Man, these leaks seem to hit Disney Infinity hard, don’t they?

A few months after a few of the upcoming Marvel figures were leaked ahead of the Marvel Battlegrounds Play Set scheduled to launch in March, an apparent retailer leak has shown off these figures all over again, with one extra surprise being added to the Disney Originals roster. From the expected, to the teased, to the completely out of left field, here are the characters and power discs being added to the Disney Infinity collection.

Starting with one we all knew was coming, Black Suit Spider-Man was previously exclusive to the PS Vita version of Disney Infinity 2.0, and was clearly listed as a new character under the Marvel character roster in 3.0. Even if he wasn’t a surprise, (and despite the costume being available as a power disc,) Symbiote Spidey looks amazing up close. I know this because I was one of the people who bought the Vita version just for him early last year. It’s worth it, people!

Teased months ago on the Disney Infinity Facebook page, Ant-Man is finally headed to the game with his own figure. Despite appearing as a mission giver and assist character via his own Power Disc, Ant-Man will now be fully playable, with an updated design based more on his movie version. Sure to ride the wave of momentum the character is enjoying after his movie turned out to be pretty great, I can’t wait to add him to my growing collection.

As one of the two major leaks from October, we finally have a mock up of what Vision’s figure and box will look like together. While somewhat expected because of his debut in Age Of Ultron, Vision is sure to bring some exciting new moves with the power of his Infinity Stone once the character is released.

Easily my favorite figure from the leaked set, (and possibly ever if the detail in the image translates to the final release,) Black Panther looks like an absolute beast! Just in time for his big screen debut in Captain America: Civil War, the prince of Wakanda will go well with the updated First Avenger Captain America launching with Marvel Battlegrounds.

The next batch of Marvel Power Discs feature a variety of characters and items from the most recent films, including the Nova Corps logo, Ghost Rider’s motorcycle, (despite having no Ghost Rider,) and the Cosmic Cube. What’s most surprising, is what seems to be a Darkhawk support disc, a more obscure character who is typically associated with Nova, but hasn’t made an appearance in the games or movies at this point. Maybe it’s hinting at future plans? Or maybe it’s just a cool bonus for the hardcore comic fans!

And lastly, the character that I did not see coming is Baloo, although it’s clear Disney saw him as a “Bear Necessity”. With a joyous expression reminiscent of his beloved song and dance sequence from The Jungle Book, details on what his in game abilities will be at this point are unknown. Once Disney sends out the official details however, we’ll be sure to post the updates!

You might have noticed the Wi-Fi logo at the bottom of each box. Considering past games have had the entire release schedule pre-installed on the disc, (and ruining the surprise in the process,) 3.0 is allowing the developers to add characters post launch. Unfortunately, this also means that an Internet connection is needed for characters who are being added late in the game’s life. It’s a give and take, but overall, I feel this is a positive, especially since surprises like Baloo would’ve been spoiled in August if this wasn’t the case.

D23 2015: The ‘Marvel Battlegrounds’ Play Set Delivers 4 Player Local Co-Op To ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’

Star Wars wasn’t the only property getting plenty of love during the D23 video game panel! While on stage, Disney Interactive finally delivered details on the previously announced Marvel Play Set coming to Disney Infinity 3.0.

Titled “Marvel Battlegrounds”, this set will be unique in the sense that it will allow 4 player local co-op in series history. Previously, four players was only possible online and in the Toy Box, but this Play Set looks to put all of your Marvel figures to good use, especially when they’re adding two more to play with.

Ripped straight from this summer’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the titular villain will be getting his own figure to use in the set and the toy box alongside Hulkbuster Iron Man. Want to rule the world? Or save it? Or maybe you want to ride in tea cups or have a friendly race through Gravity Falls? Regardless on how you use them, Marvel fans are sure to be thrilled to know that the comic book universe hasn’t been abandoned for a galaxy far, far away.

D23 2015: ‘The Good Dinosaur’, ‘Zootopia’, and Peter Pan Are Headed To ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’

At the Disney Interactive video game panel at D23, it was teased that new Disney Originals would be revealed for Disney Infinity 3.0. Making good on their promise, it was revealed that characters from two upcoming films, The Good Dinosaur and Zootopia, would get the Toys To Life treatment. In addition, Peter Pan will also arrive next year as the “Toy Box Artists Choice”, after winning a vote amongst the participants of the latest Toybox Summit, consisting of players from across the country who have built some of the best stages in the game’s Toy Box mode.

All of these figures are set to be compatible with the Toy Box mode, (most likely meaning they won’t have a campaign, or “Play Set” of their own,) with both The Good Dinosaur and Zootopia getting their own Power Disc packs. While Spot from Pixar’s upcoming film was the only character confirmed thus far, it’s safe to say that we’ll be getting a few more from both films, especially Nick Wilde from the latter flick.

While these additions are welcomed, I’m especially thrilled that Peter is finally out. Getting Tinkerbell before him is strange as it is, but considering that there will be two Mickey’s a Minnie and a Donald with no Goofy, or Phineas and Perry releasing two years ago with no Ferb in sight, it wasn’t the first time that important characters were missing. Still, it’s not too late! Chances are they’ll arrive sooner or later. Right?

Disney Infinity 3.0 is arriving on August 28th with more content rolling out throughout next year.

D23: ‘Kingdom Hearts’ Makes Its Debut In ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’!

At the Disney Interactive video game panel at D23, the team behind the upcoming Disney Infinity 3.0 had some big news. Aside from the official reveal of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens character figures that will launch alongside their own Play Set, the Darth Vader branded PS4, and Big Hero 6 being confirmed for Kingdom Hearts 3, it looks like the ever so patient fans of Square Enix’s crossover epic will get a taste of the power of the Keyblade in the upcoming Star Wars themed Toys To Life game, courtesy of this year’s Ultimate Unlock! But the question must be asked; could this be foreshadowing something more!?

In past versions, the Ultimate Unlock was a reward for buying every figure and leveling them up to at least level 1. Yes, that’s one expensive piece of DLC, (over $400 to give you an idea,) but the team always tried to make it worth it for their most dedicated fans. The first game unlocked a lightsaber, a full two years before Star Wars would get its own game. That left the likes of Mr. Incredible, Jack Sparrow, Anna and Elsa with the power of The Force. The second game awarded players with Luke Skywalker’s speeder, another tease at what would finally arrive in the third game. With Kingdom Hearts being teased between the Ultimate Unlock, and the con exclusive power disc that gives Mickey his king costume from the RPG, it’s safe to assume that a future game could become a full on collectable campaign featuring this universe. Imagine Sora, Riku, Kairi and Aqua getting the figure treatment!? Ugh, my money!

Will this reveal sway you when it comes to letting the addiction take over? Or are you more likely to give 3.0 a chance now that Kingdom Hearts has some representation? SDCC 2015: We Hit The Track With The ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’ Toy Box Speedway!

As we mentioned in our E3 preview, Disney Infinity 3.0 looks to create a much bigger experience than its predecessors partially thanks to the Toy Box Games. These dedicated modes look to bring full fledged games outside of the main Play Set campaigns, all of which will allow any of your figures to work. At Comic Con 2015, we took a peak inside Disney’s Pop Up shop to and had some hands on time with the Toy Box Speedway, a dedicated racing game that expands the game play in even bigger ways. And while I walked in expecting a fun side game to compliment the main content, what I left with was what felt like it could have been a full fledged title.

At first glance, the Toy Box Speedway looks to be doing its best Mario Kart impression, and that assumption wouldn’t be too far off. Players will be able to choose from a variety of cars and any character figure they own to jump onto the track with, with each one playing exactly the same stat wise. In fact, the only ones that do have an advantage are the Pixar Cars, and rightfully so considering racing is kind of their thing. After choosing between a car and figure, players will get to choose between numerous Disney locales to drift through. Including stages inspired from films such as Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph and The Nightmare Before Christmas, each track played up to their themes well, with iconic imagery and personality throughout.

Once the race actually started however, I was surprised by how well the game handled, with a strong sense of speed, a variety of weapons to use from the item boxes scattered along the track, and the boost storing mechanic that fills a meter every time you drift or pull off a trick. If this sounds at all familiar, then I’m guessing you’ve played the Sega All-Stars Racing games, because Disney pulled the incredibly talented developers at Sumo Digital to develop this mode. Their level of quality shined through each race, leaving me wanting to play each track when all I was expecting was a quick, half hearted mini game that only served as an optional break from the Play Sets.

After the finish line was crossed, I felt more optimistic for Disney’s next game than I already did. With Toy Box Showdown taking an action approach alongside the Speedway tackling racing, it’s looking like we’ll have tons to do with our new toys, alongside our old favorites. E3 2015: We Use The Force And Get In Touch With Our Emotions In ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’

When I first played Disney Infinity in 2013, the idea that one game could contain so many different genres was far more ambitious than you would expect from a company that could sell games on name value alone. Each of its five Play Sets and the custom Toy Box mode that accompanied them went on to prove how vastly different characters, worlds and ideas could come together in one comprehensive package. Mechanics would only be improved upon in Disney Infinity 2.0, bringing Marvel’s finest super heroes into a more focused, much larger open world, with refinements made to the combat and creation modes. So where does 3.0 go from here? We sought to find out, so we took some time with the Star Wars and Inside Out sets to see what changes the new game has in store for all us toy collectors out there.

Starting with the Star Wars side of things, it’s clear that Disney is doing their best to create a compelling experience while taking a more lighthearted approach to a galaxy far, far away. While blaster combat with characters like Han and Leia is largely the same as past iterations, (essentially locking on and shooting with some character specific abilities thrown in,) Lightsaber combat is where the game looks to shine. Developed by Ninja Theory, the team behind such action titles as DmC: Devil May Cry, Enslaved, Odyssee to the West, and Heavenly Sword, some of the actions were instantly recognizable. Taking bits of what they included from their past works, melee combat was much more focused this time, allowing the Jedi to combo enemies, launch them in the air, or throw in Force Powers to manipulate the space around their enemies. When it came down to the boss fight against General Grievous, there was never a moment where I felt like I had too few options to take him down.

Considering the steps the combat is taking towards a more focused, refined standard, 3.0 still hopes to keep its playful side intact. Exploring Endor with Darth Vader riding a Speeder Bike looks as ridiculous as it sounds, and the Battle of Hoth is a whole new experience when you have to take down AT-AT’s with Han Solo’s fists. Speaking of Hoth, one of the more interesting aspects of the demo was how tying up their legs was handled. Unlike any Star Wars game I’ve played, speed and height played a role in whether or not tripping it was successful. Fly to fast or too slow, or become misaligned with its moving joints, and your cord will break off, adding more depth to a battle we’ve played many times in the past. Of course, this leads to climbing it and breaking its weak points with your fists, but it wouldn’t be a Toys to Life game if it wasn’t silly.

Moving over to the Inside Out Play Set, playing with our emotions takes a more puzzle/platform approach to the game as opposed to the aggressive nature of the Star Wars stages. Playing as Joy, Anger, Sadness, Disgust and Fear, each character has specific traits used to navigate the stages, presented as both 2D and 3D stages. For example, Joy can float a’la Princess Peach to reach farther away areas, while Anger can walk through fire without taking damange. Often being presented with light puzzle elements that required delivering orbs to the right doors, this set came off as what you would expect from your typical licensed game. Well designed, but nothing ground breaking, the switch between perspectives and the puzzles added some variety, but these sections are obviously designed with young kids in mind. And trust me, they’ll want all the merchandise they can get once these toys and games start hitting shelves. They just look too nice to resist!

With these two sets, I felt like I was getting a drastically different experience, moreso than in 2.0 and its Play Sets. From what we’ve seen so far, 3.0 is on track to advancing the original concept even further by bringing something for everyone with its final package. Promsing even more accessible Toy Box tools, stand alone Toy Box game modes, more unannounced Play Sets and more to experience in the stages we got to demo, and it’s safe to say that 3.0 will be bigger than ever, with the potential to be even better.

Could Ant-Man Be Headed To ‘Disney Infinity: 3.0’?

On the Disney Infinity Facebook page, the team teased some pretty big news.

Considering this post was made on the same day as the release of the Ant-Man film, (which you can read up on with our official review,) it’s safe to say that the latest hero to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be making his playable debut in Disney Infinity 3.0. Oh, and then there’s this image.

While the focus seems to be on Star Wars this time around, it’s still not out of the ordinary for more Marvel heroes to be added as well. After all, a new Avengers Play Set packaged with a new Ultron and Hulkbuster Iron Man figure have already been revealed, so it’s not hard to imagine more heroes making the rounds in Disney’s Toy Box. When you consider how easy it would be to plug the hero into the game due to his model already existing thanks to his support character power disc in 2.0, and it suddenly becomes an obvious choice.

Of course, this also means there’s one more figure to invest in. Are you on board with parting with even more cash? As a ~~irresponsible~~ fanatical adult, I know I am!

SDCC 2015: Release Date And Details Announced For ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’

Disney Interactive has announced that their upcoming Star Wars themed Toys to Life title, Disney Infinity 3.0, will hit stores on August 30th. Aside from the game itself, the studio plans to release close to a dozen new figures to go with it, so we hope the next month is enough time to get your cash together!

Aside from the Starter Pack, (which includes the Twilight of the Republic Play Set, Anakin Skywalker and Ashoka Tano,) day one will see the release of Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi’s standalone figures, Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, and Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels, and a set of Star Wars Power Discs. Of course, if you want even more goodness from a galaxy far far away, Playstation owners can also purchase the Star Wars Saga Starter Pack, which gives them early access to Luke, Leia, the Twilight of the Empire Play Set, and Boba Fett.

Outside of the Jedi, Disney won’t leave themselves in the dust. In addition, the Inside Out Play Set will release on day one as well, (which is bundled with Joy and Anger,) with Sadness, Disgust and Fear releasing as standalone toys. If you want your Toy Box characters outside of the Play Sets, Disney also has you covered with the releases of Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, Olaf, Sam Flynn and Quorra, alongside a Tomorrowland power disc pack to customize your Toy Box with.

I know, this is already a huge amount of toys to buy on day one, but the last release can be free of charge! If you pre-order, each person who does walks away with early access to the Toy Box Takeover, a multiplayer expansion normally priced at $19.99. Serving as an action adventure mode supporting 2 players locally and 4 players online, players will be able to take any toy from the previous or current game and travel across multiple Disney, Marvel and Star Wars worlds in their quest to stop Syndrome. Later this Fall, Toy Box Speedway, a Kart racing expansion, will also release, but you’ll have to pay for that one.

Players can complete missions with family and friends via two-player local co-op or four-player online.

Players can join their favorite Disney, Disney•Pixar, Marvel’s and Star Wars characters and vehicles in an action-packed kart-racer. With nine franchise-themed tracks to choose from – Sugar Rush, Frozen, Tatooine, a classic Star Wars location, San Fransokyo, Agrabah, Monsters Inc., Halloween Town, Gravity Falls or Marvel’s Knowhere – they can choose from three different game modes including Time Trial mode, Race mode and Combat mode. Players put their driving skills to the test as they attack opponents with gadgets and weapons and earn trophies across three challenge cups.

E3 2015: Boba Fett Receives Exclusive Early Release In The ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’ Star Wars Saga Starter Pack!

In between all of the news surrounding announcements for The Last Guardian, Shenmue III and of course, Final Fantasy VII, there was some exciting news coming out of Sony’s E3 press conference for Disney Infinity and Star Wars fans alike, but not so much if you’re not a Playstation gamer.

Much like last year’s exclusive collector’s edition which included The Hulk before he was released in stores, PS3 and PS4 owners will get early access to Boba Fett, as well as the Rise Against The Empire Play Set in a special Disney Infinity 3.0 starter pack. Dubbed the “Star Wars Saga Starter Pack, this set will include everyone’s favorite bounty hunter who doesn’t really do much in canon material, bundled with the Rise Against the Empire pack a few months in advance, (which comes bundled with Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa,) as well as the standard Twilight of the Empire pack, (which includes Clone Wars favorites, Anakin Skywalker and Ashoka Tano.) Retailing at $114.99, which is essentially the price of each item individually, do you really need to ask which version to get if you own a Sony console?
