It’s an MCU double feature as Garrett talks about both “Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness” & “Moon Knight”! He dives into what Sam Raimi brought to Doctor Strange, the differing arcs of Stephen & Wanda, reinterpreting Moon Knight for the small screen, & why the sandy supernatural vibe added to the series. Comic talk, anecdotes, the phrase “hypocrisy & hubris”, & so much more await in a jam packed, madness filled episode!

[This unboxing is based on a sample provided by Loot Crate.]

The previous two months of Loot Wear crates, for the most part, haven’t wowed me. The quality has been fine, and all but the licenses used just weren’t within my realm of interests. That completely changed with this month’s shipment. Bearing the theme “Magical,” the titles included are Kingdom Hearts, Harry Potter, Dr. Strange, and Adventure Time.

lootwearnov16-khscarf

My favorite item from this month is the Kingdom Hearts Icons Scarf. It is very soft and consists of several layers, providing a considerable amount of warmth. It is a nice, subtle way to show your love for the game series in the cold weather months.

lootwearnov16-harrypottersocks

Dobby would have loved these. The Harry Potter socks are so freaking cute I don’t know whether to put them on my feet or frame them! The print bears a mix of the story’s characters (Hedwig in the cage!) along with spells. Expecto Patronum!

lootweardnov16-hogwartsloungepants

Harry Potter‘s other item is the Crest Logo (lounge) pants. Like the lounge pants found in this month’s Loot Anime crate, these are made of a light jersey fabric. The four Houses in Hogwarts are represented here: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. One neat detail about the print on the pants is that House crests are made to look like patches with faux stitching around the edging.

lootweardnov16-drstrangesocks

The second pair of socks is themed to Doctor Strange with the Eye of Agamotto on the top of each. These would make a fun accessory to a cosplay outfit.

lootwearnov16-drstrangeshirt

Building on the the whole “ugly Christmas sweater” trend, Loot Wear included a Doctor Strange shirt that imitates sweater patterns. In all honesty, the shirt graphic more brings to mind NES graphics rather than the stitches on a garment. It is still nifty, though.

lootwearnov16-adventuretimeunderwear

I think it is combination of my not wearing men’s underwear and lack of interest in the Adventure Time series that adds up to this pair of Earl of Lemongrab underwear being the least cool item in the crate. All things considered, five out of six is a pretty dang good.

It’s that wonderful time of the week again, new comic book day! Choosing what to read can be daunting (and expensive!). Don’t worry though, Geekscape has you covered. Each week we give our best bet for a comic book that you’re sure to enjoy. Let’s get into it.

Regardless of how you feel about last night’s election, there is one thing that can’t be disputed: there are a lot of great new comic books out today! Oh man, so many that I’m excited for! Let’s start rattling them off.

Joshua Williamson and Felipe Watanabe’s Flash is kicking ass and kicks off a new storyline this week. The most exciting and refreshing of the ongoing Batman titles, All Star Batman, has it’s third issue hitting shelves today. If you’ve been Gerard Way’s Young Animal line of comics (I have been, but they’re a little out there), their latest, Mother Panic is out today.

Marvel’s new Invincible Iron Man (Iron Woman? .. Mmm, no.. Ironheart!) makes its debut this week, even though I’m not a big fan of the trend of new characters taking on the mantle of old heroes, I think this title will be worth checking out.

Mosaic, starring Morris Sackett, the brand new Marvel super hero, is rolling onto issue #2 today. First one was solid, and left me wanting more.

I want to say I’m the most excited for Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, where Gerry Conway is going to be taking the character back to the roots of what makes Peter Parker, Peter Parker, because that is SO up my alley… but that won’t be the first title I read…

The Clone Conspiracy #2
📝 Dan Slott
🎨 Jim Cheung

Yeah, no surprise here. I’m just hooked on this story line, I can’t help it! Am I a fan of Peter Parker bank rolling the entire Avengers team over in Avengers #1? Not really. Does it indicate that he might become a lot less relatable? Maybe. BUT Slott has been delivering great issue after great issue here (including some very powerful “Peter Parker” moments) so I’m not worried at all… yet ☺️

Who else will come back from the dead!? Does someone have a bingo card? Someone should make a bingo card.

Let’s mix it up…

Doctor Strange: The Oath
📝 Brian K. Vaughan
🎨 Marcos Martin

Well, if jumping into Spider-Man isn’t your thing, maybe you’re looking for a little Doctor Strange in your life? Comixology has you covered, their running a sale on Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin’s iconic Strange story, The Oath ($1 for each of the five issues). Strange simultaneously tries to find the person who nearly murdered him as well as find a cure to Wong’s terminal cancer.

So that feels like kind of like an advertisement but hey, it’s a good story and I didn’t want to leave you without a Best Bet for two weeks in a row!

And with all that Stranger Things 2 news over the past week, how about checking out Vaughan’s Paper Girls too. Sorry, too lazy to find a link 😝

What books did you pick up today?

Happy reading.

Marvel one-ups itself again with spellbinding visuals and a stunning performance from Benedict Cumberbatch as “Doctor Strange.” That’s hard to do considering the company that the film joins, but with the driving force of director Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us From Evil) his film surely deserves a spot within the top seven films in the Marvel Universe (MU).

Considering that “Doctor Strange” is mostly a B-level character it comes to no surprise that Marvel is able to mold the mythos into a worthy film. Some keep waiting for the so-called super hero fatigue to hit but with Marvel leading the way with quality films that are balanced, well-written, and containing worthy characters, it just seems to not be happening.

Some may have thought “Doctor Strange” was possibly going to be a miss for Disney. However, the film easily impresses with a solid story as it follows a similar pattern of intrigue, witty humor, action packed visuals, alongside thoughtful and smart casting that Marvel just keeps repeating.

The choice of going with a B-level character is a smart move for Marvel as “Doctor Strange” offers a new level of ability that the others such as Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk do not share (despite the Scarlet Witch).

Strange gets his powers from magic. His talent stems from his photographic memory that allows him to learn effectively from ancient books of magic and gives him the ability to perform complicated spells that harness mystical energies and forces that are unseen to the regular people. His character fits well into the universe as something different as he is able to do things and go places the other characters in the MU cannot. That appeal is part of why this character sucessfully avoids the fatigue mentioned already; and of course the superior directing and acting too.

It’s all to easy to say Benedict Cumberbatch is the definitive driving force of the film and many will. However, the entire cast was perfectly realized. Despite the rumblings from the peanut gallery on Tilda Swinton’s casting as The Ancient One, there is no one who could have played the role better. She’s just the right amount of other worldliness and at the same time human, creating this ethereal being that can wield power and empathy equally. Her performance takes me back to her character “Mason” in the equally trippy film “Snowpiercer” where despite her small role, it contributed vastly.

In a film with Cumberbatch and Swinton it’s easy to maybe pass up on Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays Mordor. He’s a mentor to Dr. Steven Strange and even makes a case to the Ancient One as to why Strange should be allowed to learn from them. If you are familiar with the comic or cartoon then you know his destiny and I won’t spoil it. Let’s just say that his ability to portray characters with great range will create a wonderful dynamic down the line in the next film.

Also, easily dismiss-able in super hero flicks is the love interest. In the original “Thor” movie with Natalie Portman cast as the love-interest, her character was just a non-entity. She didn’t bring chemistry nor much humor with the two dimensional character she played (in both films). On the flip-side “Strange” cast Rachel McAdams, who gets some great screen time where her character is allowed to play a wide range of emotions. She’s funny in the right places, sad, hurt, excited and the character feels a lot more real when compared to some other equally good Marvel films with weaker love interests. It was smart this time out to make sure this small character was not written as flat. The character’s ability to recognize the changes in Steven Strange help the audience define how he evolves as a person. This creates more gravitas for the story and the growth of the Strange character <which is important in an origin story>.

There’s more. There’s the villain, Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius. He’s the Ancient One’s traitorous former disciple. Is there any role Mikkelsen can’t shine in? For a equally trippy ride see him in “Men & Chicken.”

Marvel once again delivers on a solid super hero film making sure to include just the right amount of humor and action alongside a story that resonates with superb acting. The visuals alone make the film worth seeing in 3-D and even IMAX. Early prediction is that the film will more than likely require repeat viewings not only in the theater but in Blu-Ray ownership down the line. “Doctor Strange” is highly entertaining and a must-see in the theater.

The Final Verdict: 4 out of 5!

Briefly: We’re now just a few months away from Marvel’s insanely anticipated Doctor Strange, and the studio today released a short new sneak peek at the film, detailing Mordo, the ‘Zealot’s, and so much more.

The featurette comes in at just a minute long, though looks to be a piece of a larger puzzle that I’m hoping we’ll see soon. In any case, it’s fantastic to get some more insight on the still fairly mysterious film, even if it’s just barely 60 seconds worth.

The film follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

Take a look at the video below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Doctor Strange hits theatres on November 4th!

In this outstanding thriller / coming of age / mystery sereis created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things feels like a show that classic 1980’s Spielberg never got to make, but thankfully happened anyway. If you’re not currently watching binging Stranger Things, we at Geekscape seriously hope you reconsider what you’re doing with your life.

Here’s why in our SPOILER FREE review.

Let’s start at the foundation: THE STORY.

Again, this story is framed in the late 80’s around the mysterious disappearance of 12-year-old William Byers in the sleepy little town of Hawkins, Indiana. We follow as Will’s mom, Joyce Byers (Winona “Secret Crush” Ryder), the grizzled Sheriff (David “Harrison Ford’s Long Lost Brother” Harbour), and Will’s friends search for the missing boy.

There is a delicate balancing act present of mixing familiar tropes to create a fresh feeling in this coming of age thriller mystery. For those who posses “Uncanny” hearing, they might be able to piece together the plot within the pilot episode. Despite the foreshadowing, the Duffer Brothers do a marvelous job of keeping an urgent sense of dread. The stakes are real. This is not a franchise with characters you know will survive to live on for merchandising sake. As it’s said in the series, “Science is cool, but it’s not very forgiving.”

This science-fiction tale definitely feels like first time in what feels like decades, or at least since Twin Peaks, since a series of this caliber has been legitimately cool. Not a manufactured cool either. This isn’t a story a bunch of executives in a boardroom carelessly mashed together to conjure a nostalgia boner across the key demographics. Stranger Things naturally combines many familiar elements into something if not wholly original, is undeniably satisfying.

The PLAYERS

Winona Ryder. Welcome back. I know, your IMDB profile clearly states you haven’t really been away, but your performance here is heartbreaking in all the right ways. When Ryder’s Joyce Byers loses her son, you, the audience feels that loss. You feel her madness, and believe she’ll go to hell and back to get her boy.

Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, answering a call that the Ghost Busters wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
“Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, answering a call that the Ghost Busters wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole.”

Huge props to David Harbour too for taking the tired trope of small town, hard boiled sheriff, and making that archetype shine again. Upon the list of all time great bad-asses, Sheriff Jim Hopper gets placed between Han Solo, and Indiana Jones. Don’t be fooled either, there’s more to this character than an alcohol problem and a strong punching arm. There is an undeniable mystery to this character too. What mystery exactly, may have to wait for the second season though.

David Harbour as Sheriff Jim Hopper seen here not collecting evidence but taking a rest from punching fools in the face. Face punching, it's hard work.
David Harbour as Sheriff Jim Hopper not collecting evidence, but taking a rest from punching fools in the face.

Finally, do you have any idea how impossible it is to have a child actor who is just okay? Well this series doesn’t have a child actor who is just okay. This series has Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, and Charlie Heaton, and everyone one of them is preposterously outstanding. It’s simply unbelievable that this much young talent is crammed into this one series, but it’s nevertheless true. From the painfully dark situations that Ms. Brown’s character El suffers through, to Mr. Wolfhard’s natural screen presence and chemistry between his friends, everyone hits their marks in spades. Even Mr. Matarazzo and McLaughlin feel more than just supporting cast stereotypes; they are friends, individuals, three-dimensional characters.

I'd bet on these guys over the Goonies any day of the week.
I’d bet on these guys over the Goonies any day of the week. Specifically, I’d bet Eleven.

The LOOK and the SOUND

It can’t be said enough that this series is so Eighties in all the right ways.  Nailing that visual aesthetic of making a period piece for this production was imperative. If the look wasn’t absolutely perfect, this show, even despite the phenomenal cast, wouldn’t be what it is. With the exception of a few CGI moments that could momentarily distract, the look crafted by the cinematographers, art department, and the rest of the crew is damn near perfection.

I don't think ET is going to fly off into the sunset in this one fellas.
I don’t think ET is going to fly off into the sunset in this one fellas.

On top of that, Stranger Things offers a treat for the eyes and the ears. Within the opening shot alone, the silence draws you in only to have the sudden chaos cause your heart rate to spike. This is not a cheap jump scare. This is fear. This is what a well crafted soundscape of unknown dread sounds like. And, it’s beautiful.

The score is also a delightfully haunting synthetic sound that sets the mood beautifully. Special shout out to the soundtrack selection as well.

The VERDICT

Do you feel like this review is slightly biased? Did we over do it on the praise for this series? Do you might suspect that this series can’t possibly live up to this type of hype? Please, feel free to prove yourself dead wrong. Go watch Stranger Things immediately.

Welcome to Weekend Reads! It’s your little, weekly dose of comic book goodness that focuses on some aspect of my weekend reading!

Ongoing Reads

Power Rangers is incredible. Issue two came out a couple of weeks ago, and if you aren’t reading it, you are missing out. If our site hasn’t yet made you a fan of the franchise, this book will. Last week’s All New X-Men featured Doctor Strange. Paco Diaz Luque picks up art duties from Bagley (Bagley will be back for #9) and delivers the fanciful mystical art that you’d expect from a title with Strange it. The story itself is a bit weaker than previous offerings; it definitely felt like a filler issue before the title dives into Apocalypse Wars.

New Reads

Now, let’s dive into the only #1 I had a chance to check out.

The_Unbelievable_Gwenpool_1_Young_Variant
The Unbelievable Gwenpool

I was sceptical before reading this issue, for the most part, I had my review already written in my head; read this if you want more Deadpool, otherwise, just read Deadpool. Luckily, I read it anyways because I was pleasantly surprised.

As you’d expect from a Deadpool-esque book, there are plenty of pop culture references. Christopher Hastings never breaks the fourth wall directly; he frames it that Gwen Poole has been taken from her normal world (like ours) into the Marvel Universe, so she references that she is in a comic book but never addresses the audience directly.

The book’s art is what caught my eye initially; the cartoony look provides a nice contrast to the book’s violence. Speaking of violence, the book isn’t as violent as I imagined it would be. In fact, I left this book thinking it was more light hearted and easy going than it was violent. Well, except for the book’s shocking twist ending! You’ll have to read it to find out what it is 😉.

Is this book worth $4.99? Maybe? If you’re tight on cash maybe wait for the trade or just skip it, but if you’re curious about it, you will probably enjoy it.

Oh, before we go, anyone check out Faster Than Light? I checked out the TPB released last week but after two issues it wasn’t working for me. The art is unreal, though! If you like space, this is maybe worth checking out.

Next Time

Plenty to be excited about this week:
Power Man and Iron Fist #3
Captain Marvel #4
Extraordinary X-Men #9

Maybe I’ll give Tokyo Ghost #6 and Dept H #1 a try. I’ve heard good things 🙂

Briefly: Oh heck yes.

The very first trailer for Marvel’s Doctor Strange just debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and it’s so cool.

It’s our first look at Cumberbatch in motion as Stephen Strange, and he looks absolutely fabulous. The trailer definitely throws off some way too heavy Inception vibes, but is a great first look at Marvel’s next money printing machine.

When famous neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) suffers career-ending injuries in a devastating car crash, he seeks help in the furthest reaches of the world! Hoping to find cures for his injuries, Strange instead uncovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Doctor Strange hits theatres on November 4th!

Briefly: Just a few hours ago we received our first official look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange via the latest cover for Entertainment Weekly, and the publication has now published more gorgeous photos from the anticipated film.

The images consist of two photos (one pretty magical), and a few sleek pieces of concept art for the film. I don’t know if there was any doubt on this one, but it’s pretty clear from the stills that Cumberbatch looks absolutely exceptional in this outfit.

Of course, we still don’t know much at all about the feature, but hopefully something will be revealed soon! In any case, you can take a look at the new stills below, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see in the film! Doctor Strange hits theatres on November 4th, 2016!

Briefly: Marvel’s Doctor Strange just started production a few weeks back, and the studio has already released the very first featurette for the anticipated project.

As principal photography has just begun, we’re going to be waiting forever for a trailer or any real footage to be released.

In any case, we know almost nothing about the project at this point, so we’re going to eat up every little tidbit of information until Marvel fills us in. Doctor Strange follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

Briefly: It’s finally, officially in production. Phew, we though that this one was on thin ice (not).

Yep, Marvel today officially revealed that Doctor Strange is now in production. The film stars the wondrous Benedict Cumberbatch as the famed Stephen Strange, and the official release came with a very unexpected first synopsis:

In Rachel McAdams’ own words to the L.A. Times, “it’s still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all,” but word that she’s considering taking a leading role across from Benedict Cumberbatch—in the title role—of Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange is very exciting news. McAdams reliably turns in strong performances in romance (The Notebook), comedy (Mean Girls), action (Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes) and is lately proving her dramatic chops with True Detective. (Check out Geekscape’s coverage of True Detective here.)

Honestly—hopefully, without spoiling anything—I’ll admit that I was most into the Sherlock Holmes films when she was most on screen and part of the storyline. Hearing others in Hollywood tell it, McAdams already seems a sort of ethereal presence in Tinseltown—preferring to stick closer to her Canadian roots rather than getting lost in the glitz and glamour—which could naturally bring just the right energy to Doctor Strange.

If she ends up with the, as of yet unnamed, role in Strange, she’ll be joining Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor as well as Cumberbatch in the Scott Derrickson (writer/director of Sinister and Deliver Us from Evil) directed adaptation. I’m not sure if Derrickson’s resume gives me enough to get a bead on how he’ll handle the Strange film but I did sorta appreciate some of the choices he made directing the 2008 remake, The Day the Earth Stood Still. Overall, that film got a pretty cold reception and only almost made its budget back in stateside box-office receipts—but I doubted any update would ever be able to fill the big shoes of the original in the first place and did my best to remain open to it from there. I’m curious to see what Derrickson will do with Doctor Strange—want to give him a shot—but mostly I’m worried. I really want to see Strange a success—especially with the cast being assembled!—and I’ve got my fingers crossed.

As far as which role McAdams may be considering, at this time we can only speculate. So I will!—I’m speculating it’s Clea. I mean, who else? The Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension—she and Doctor Strange are practically a package deal—it makes sense to me. McAdams has that kiss of otherworldly beauty; all she needs is the white hair. Depending on what sort of origin story is told, if Strange is already sort of established from the beginning, the film could be the story of meeting Clea and facing off together against Dormammu! We could then extrapolate that Swinton may be Umar and Ejiofor may be Dormammu, yeah?

Let’s hope there’s a bit less speculation and a whole lot more details soon!

It’s official, Oscar nominated-actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) will play the villainous Baron Mordo in Marvel Studio’s upcoming Doctor Strange film. Baron Mordo was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and first appeared in Strange Tales #111. Mordo is a fellow apprentice of the Ancient One but betrays him and Doctor Strange.

The Scott Derrickson directed film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role.

It might be a little early to get excited for this movie but I think it’s going to have a completely different vibe from all the other Marvel Studio movies when it opens in theatres November 4, 2016.

Today is full of casting announcements. Deadpool has Ryan Reynolds, Jessica Jones has Krysten Ritter, and now Doctor Strange has Benedict Cumberbatch.

From Marvel.com:

The actor will star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Benedict Cumberbatch’s star is higher than ever, having starred this year in The Imitation Game as Alan Turing and as a giant dragon in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. He also has a steady gig working as the famous Sherlock in the critically-acclaimed BBC series of the same name, which is where I suspect he built his massive fanbase. The “Cumberbitches,” as they are, although he thinks that name is degrading. Oh, him.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been full of A-list stars, but now it’s on a trend of getting the hottest rising ones. Benedict Cumberbatch is one on the verge of total A-list stardom, and a blockbuster Marvel movie just might be the one to truly cement his status.

Furthermore, how much awesome does Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe look? The exciting line-up announced a few months ago set the right mood, and now every casting choice announced so far makes the series look so damn good. 2016 onwards is going to be a hell of an era for superhero movies.

Briefly: These are some exciting times for comic book movies. Marvel has decided to answer DC’s move of announcing all of their upcoming films through the year 2020 with their own long term announcements for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s what’s been announced, as well as the release dates:

Yep, Avengers: Infinity War will be split into TWO parts. This is going to be HUGE!

I am super excited for these films and the introduction of these new characters into the MCU!

Hot off the digital Presses is this fantastic news!

Sherlock star, and Tumblr heartthrob, Benedict Cumberbatch has just been cast as Doctor Strange in the upcoming film adaptation of the Marvel sorcerer.

With filming set to begin in May of 2015, fans were starting to get a little anxious as to who would play the cult favorite. Early rumors also say that this is NOT going to be an origin film, and as a fan of Strange PhD I cannot be more on board with that decision.

Doctor Strange is being directed by Scott Derrickson and is written by Jon Spaihts.

Briefly: Despite still not having an Ant-Man director after Edgar Wright’s shocking departure last month, Marvel may have found its Doctor Strange helmer in Insidious director Scott Derrickson.

Variety reports that talks are still early, but a deal is expected to be announced soon. Derrickson pretty much confirmed things himself with this tweet earlier this afternoon:

Do you think Derrickson is a good choice for the project? Is there anyone else you’d rather see in the director’s chair? Sound out below! Doctor Strange is still without a release date, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as more information is revealed!

I list why Rion Johnson should be at the top of the list for Doctor Strange directors! ‘Happy’ is almost more of the same from Grant Morrison! Our ‘Sinister’ screening kicked ass! ‘Marvel NOW’ can’t come soon enough and I take it upon myself to welcome Nintendo into the 21st Century!

Flixist managing editor Alex Katz joins me to talk about a ton of name changes! Star Trek 2 gets a name! G4 is getting rebranded in 2013! Wonder Woman is getting another crack at TV on the CW! Will Cloud Atlas be a giant mess or a giant accomplishment? Alex tells you why you should be playing ‘Horn’ on your iOS devices! PLUS! Will Doctor Strange be in Thor 2 and who should play him? And who should play Ant-Man while we’re at it?!?

After recording the show, I realize Clive Owen would make a pretty bad ass Doctor Strange and Sean William Scott could do a non-super adaptoid Eric O’Grady Ant-Man. Who else can you think of?

For quite some time now it’s been well known that Marvel Studios has wanted to make a Doctor Strange movie. They even have a completed script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer that was sent out to directors over a year ago. Well, this rumor seemed to slip past a few people. It seems that The Playlist recorded a podcast a while back that mentioned that they might know something about a sorcerer surpreme’s appearance in Thor: The Dark World. The most interesting part of this? It’s more than just a cameo. Screenrant broke it down like this:

The Playlist claimed that Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster could be working alongside Dr. Strange in a similar capacity as she did with Stellan Skarsgård’s Dr. Erik Selvig in the first film, and that Strange would be playing a big part in “all three acts” of the film, as opposed to being relegated to a cameo-type introduction. He would play a scientist (he’s a genius neurosurgeon in the comics) and someone who’s deeply interested in Foster’s stories and knowledge about Asgard and Thor.

Actually, I lied about something. The most interesting part of this was the rumor of who Marvel Studios apparently wanted Joel Edgerton (Warrior) as their Doctor Strange. The key word being “wanted”. They may have moved on and found another actor at this point if this turns out to be true. And apparently there’s quite a few bits and pieces to this rumor that could lead to it being true. The same source apparently leaked out the information about The Falcon appearing Captain America: The Winter Soldier prior to Anthony Mackie’s casting. Let’s also not forget the Orb Of Agamatto that appeared in Odin’s vault in Thor.

The Agamatto objects are the source of Strange’s supernatural powers, and according to The Playlist’s information, one of those objects could come crashing down on earth – thus explaining Strange’s cinematic origins. Is Marvel planning on introducing their “Phase Three” characters early? Well, that’d be a smart decision and so far Marvel Studios definitely has a track record of making smart decisions with their movies. So, what are your guys thoughts on this one?
