Daniel Kraus’ ‘The Living Dead’ is an all new fictional zombie story that was started by zombie and horror master George A. Romero! Upon Romero’s death, Kraus was enlisted to help finish the book and bring it to readers! Now it is here and Daniel guests on Geekscape to talk about collaborating with storytelling masters like George A. Romero and Guillermo Del Toro (as he did on The Shape of Water and Trollhunters), his approach to writing and all things zombies! This is going to be a great one! Enjoy!

I may have mentioned back during Season 1 just how great Cinemax’s ‘Outcast’ series, based on the Images Comics series by Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta, is! Well, I hope you listened because Season 2 is airing right now and it is just as great! To celebrate the show’s return, I sat down with series star Patrick Fugit and showrunner Chris Black and talked about the uniqueness of this supernatural possession series. What went into crafting the specific tone? Did they have trouble portraying the level of darkness and violence necessary to getting the story right? And how did they pull off some of those incredible possession effects? If you’re a horror or TV fan, you’ll probably find something to like in our conversation!

A fan of his Rock and Roll meets Filmmaking style, I’ve been wanting to have Joe Lynch on the show for a long time! Now he finally arrives with his new film ‘Mayhem’ starring Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead. We talk a lot of filmmaking in this episode, from the controversial history of Joe’s LARPing love letter ‘Knights of Badassdom’ to how ‘Mayhem’ is the perfect film for Joe. How did the script come to him? What did he discover in the process of making the film? And what very recent Geekscape guest’s film is ‘Mayhem’ often compared to? If you’re a film fan you’re going to love this episode. If you’re not… you’re still going to love this episode so listen up!

Briefly: Wow.

Just when I was beginning to think that we’d never see another installation of The Wolf Among Us, Telltale Games has revealed that they have a ton of new content coming down the pipeline.

First up, they’ve revealed a new five part continuation of last year’s revered Batman series, entitled Batman: The Enemy Within, which will see its first episode launch everywhere on August 8th (with a disc version dropping in October).

In this latest chapter, both Bruce Wayne and Batman will be forced into precarious new roles. The Riddler has returned to terrorize Gotham City, but his gruesome puzzles merely foreshadow an even greater crisis. With the arrival of a ruthless federal agent and the return of a still nascent Joker, Batman must navigate uneasy alliances while Bruce Wayne undertakes a perilous series of deceptions. Which of Batman’s new allies will you choose to trust? And how deep into the darkness will you let Bruce descend?

Naturally, your choices from Batman‘s first season will carry over to the new game.

Next up, now that Walking Dead: The New Frontier has wrapped up (I’m behind, please don’t spoil it), the company has revealed that the game’s next iteration will (scarily) have the working title The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – The Final Season.

The new season is set to premiere sometime in 2018. I imagine that this isn’t the last Telltale iteration of The Walking Dead that we’ll ever see, but it sure does sound like this will be the end of Clementine’s tale. Telltale confirmed that this fourth and final season would focus on Clementine in the lead role, allowing players to fully step back into the shoes of the fan favorite character.

“It’s going to be an amazing experience. Thank you all so much, from the bottom of my heart,” said Melissa Hutchison, the award-winning actress who has been the voice of ‘Clementine’ since 2012. “It’s been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, and so much love has been behind this whole experience. Good luck, I’ll be right there with you.”

I’m going to cry during every freaking episode, aren’t I? The first season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead remains one of my favourite games of all time.

The most surprising announcement of Telltale’s pre-SDCC reveal is the fact that a second season of The Wolf Among Us is now in development, and should see its debut in 2018.

Details on the title are all but non-existent at this point, but Telltale notes that “With overwhelming popular demand from fans since the series concluded in 2014, Telltale surprised their fans today in an announcement video from the cast and crew confirming that the project is coming in the year ahead. Though this new season has not yet been officially titled, it will debut in the second half of 2018 across all major gaming consoles and mobile gaming devices. This new season will begin a fresh story arc for its returning cast of characters, featuring the return of Adam Harrington as Bigby Wolf and Erin Yvette as Snow White.”

I loved the first season of the game (I can’t believe it finished three years ago), and with the way that the first game ended, I’m so, so happy that we’re set to see a continuation.

Telltale also debuted a ‘Nintendo Direct’ style Summer Update video to reveal all of the new projects. Take a look at the video below!

Briefly: We’re finally just a week away from a the start of a new season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and after the company revealed last week that the season would launch with a two episode premiere, the official launch trailer has just been released.

It’s bound to be a heart-wrenching, tear-jerking few hours, and I can’t freaking wait to get my hands on it. Regulars around these parts may remember that the game’s first season is one of my favourite titles of all time, and it’s been way, way too long since I’ve been able to catch up with Clementine.

For now, we’ll have to watch the game’s gorgeous launch trailer below, and speculate as to what may happen when we meet Javier on December 20th.

Briefly: I can’t even…

At last night’s fantastic The Game Awards, we witnessed many emotional moments, were surprised by many of the award recipients, and saw some World Premiere trailers for a multitude of incredible looking titles (like Prey, oh man Prey).

The biggest surprise of all? For me, it wasn’t Uncharted 4 not taking home GOTY (I could hear Shane cheering all the way from Canada), That Dragon, Cancer taking home the Games For Change award, or the incredible gameplay reveal for Mass Effect: Andromedait’s the fact that Telltale is breaking their tried and true mould by releasing two episodes of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, on December 20th.

The fantastic (heart-wrenching) trailer introduced us to our new hero, Javier, and just how he and Clementine came to meet. Telltale simply noted that this tale’s opening was simply too large for one episode, so when A New Frontier premieres on December 20th, we’ll have twice as much content to play.

Telltale’s The Walking Dead is among my favourite game series’ of all time, so you better believe I’ll be jumping right into this one.

For now, you’ll have watch (and re-watch) the first look below, but I’d love to hear what your favourite moment in the series has been thus far.

Briefly: We were sort of expecting to see the premiere episode of the third season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead sometime in November, but the publisher has just revealed some new detail about the upcoming episode, some slick new key art, and that it’ll actually debut on December 20th.

The third season is officially titled The Walking Dead: The New Frontier, and as we already knew, Clem is quite a bit older than she was the last time that we saw her. In the game, “When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Four years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last”

I’m absolutely terrified of what we’ll have to go through…

In any case, the first episode will hit PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, MacOS, iOS, and Android on December 20th worldwide, while a ‘Season Pass Disc’ including the game up to the third episode (and downloads of the next two) will hit PS4 and Xbox One in February.

An extended first look at the debut episode will premiere at next week’s The Game Awards, so you better bet we’ll be watching. For now, take a look at the key art below, and let us know if you’re excited.

I can’t think of a more fitting theme for October’s Loot Wear shipment than “Horror.” Now, all cards on the table, I have only seen one of the movies or shows represented in this shipment (scary movies are not my thing) so I may not be doing many of these items justice (but I will do my best).

lootwearoct16nightmarebeforechristmassocks

The one item I did recognize was the pair of Nightmare before Christmas socks. Much like the Sonic the Hedgehog socks from September’s crate, the image of Jack Skellington and Oogie Boogie is screen-printed on the garment.

lootwearoct16alienshirt lootwearoct16alienshirtsleeve

While I didn’t understand all the references, I was still impressed with the detail on the Alien long sleeve shirt. I will say my brother was pretty excited about it.

lootwearoct16walkingdeadboxerbriefs

lootwearoct16walkingdeadsocksAnd it apparently can’t be a horror-related thing without some mention of the TV show, The Walking Dead. The series gets not one, but two, items in the shipment: a pair of men’s boxer briefs and some socks. Both pieces share the same pattern, with silhouettes of different weapons from the show against a crimson background.

lootwearoct16shaunofthedeadshirt

The Shaun of the Dead shirt was stiff and rough to the touch. The cut of it makes me think it is a baby doll tee. The shirt’s image depicts shovels and a cricket bat (I think?) being grabbed at by the hands of the undead.

lootwearoct16edwardscissorhandsraglan

The final item is a women’s raglan featuring Edward Scissorhands. It was super soft and moderately stretchy.

Aside from the individual item’s quality, I don’t have much I can comment on. The shipment, with the exception of the Shaun of the Dead shirt, was made well and of good quality fabric. This month’s theme just wasn’t for me but that is a risk you take with these subscription boxes.

October’s Lootcrate is here, and what better way to celebrate the season of all things spooky than by featuring some of horror’s greatest faces! From Leatherface to Freddy Krueger, and a playful reminder of what ended up at the end of Negan’s bat far too soon, here’s what we unboxed this month!

img_5405

First off, this month’s shirt features the man that everyone loves to hate with Lucille in hand. The premiere of The Walking Dead Season 7 is still fresh in our minds, which is why I can’t help but want to wear this everywhere. As a player for Negan’s Sluggers, you’re sure to get plenty of awkward laughter, mean looks and the occaisional call of your apparent trolling of the general public. One way or another, you’ll get plenty of attention with this eye popping shirt.

img_5406

Serial killers have never looked so adorable. This supder deformed Leatherface plush straight out of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has never looked more huggable, which is a far cry from his vicious character in the films. That smile is hard to resist, but you might want to be careful when you’re cuddling with your new buddy late at night.

img_5410

Stepping away from the viciousness of zombies and murderers, The Legion Of Regrettable Supervillains takes an interesting look at some rogues that you might have never knew existed. From the obscure to the strange and the flat out grotesque, comic fans and horror fans alike should find plenty of trivia to enjoy as they uncover some of the lesser known bad guys throughout comic book history.

img_5411

On the subject of reading materials, this month’s Lootcrate Magazine ramps up the horror theme with a feature on the Walkers from The Walking Dead. Interviews with Emily Andras and Tim Rozon from Wynonna Earp and a section letting us find out whether or not we could survive a horror movie round out the cover content, with some shocking revelations in the latter article. Spoiler alert: I would die!

img_5407

For the old school horror fan who wants to fly their camp pride high, this Camp Crystal Lake banner will surely attract anyone nearby who happens to be wearing a hockey mask, a grey jumpsuit, or carrying a machete. Friday The 13th may only come around once in a while, but you can remind yourself of the horrors that Jason put those poor kids through every time you see it flying.

img_5412

From one horror icon to another, Michael Myers is the highlight of this month’s pin, featuring a half mask and half pumpkin design, with the killer’s signature knife splitting the two images. Use this to remind your siblings what can happen to them when they make their siblings angry. Some grudges can be hard to let go.

img_5413

Lastly, my favorite item of the box has to be this amazing set of Freddy Krueger chopsticks, held together by his signature leather glove. Now you can eat ramen and show off your amazing rice picking skills in style, making tools for murder your eating utensils of choice. They’re so great, that my cat, Piddles, (or P for short), couldn’t stay away either. Maybe the claws remind her of someone?

img_5409

Once the contents are gone, the box this time around becomes a zombie mask. For those with no idea what to do for a potential costume, all you have to do is pop out the zombie face, and you’ll be a ready made Walker! All you have some ratty clothes on and make sure to stumble around with no sense of direction or coordination. Naturally, this is a perfect fit for me.

img_5414

That’s it for October! The Freddy chop sticks were my favorite items this month, but what were yours? Let us know in the comments, and tell us what you hope will arrive in next month’s crate! As always, make sure to use the promo code “Geekscape” to get a discount on your next subscription!

Briefly: It’s almost time!

Well, we still have just over a month of waiting before last season’s cliffhanger is finally solved (who. did. he. kill?), but AMC has just debuted an exciting new teaser for next month’s premiere.

It’s pretty much all Negan, and he’s pretty much all bad-ass.

Take a look at the teaser below, and be sure to let us know who’s dead!

Briefly: Finally, the moment of San Diego Comic-Con that everyone seems to be waiting for.

Nope, not some new Marvel news (that Luke Cage trailer though), some insane exclusive, or the first teaser trailer for some movie that we won’t be seeing for two or three years.

Following the key art from last week, and the Fear the Walking Dead trailer from earlier this morning, AMC has officially debuted the trailer for The Walking Dead’s seventh season during its Comic-Con panel today.

Naturally, the mystery over who met Lucille in the season six cliffhanger has not been solved, and we’ll have to wait until October to find out. During the panel, Kirkman noted that “You’ll see who was at the end of that bat and what happened from there.” And that the Negan’s victim is “beloved to everyone.”

Without further adieu. Here we go:

The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, October 23rd!

Briefly: We’re expecting to see the full trailer for The Walking Dead proper’s seventh season any time now, but for now you’ll just have to settle with a good look at season 2B of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead.

The series takes us back to the beginning of the zombie apocalypse – a time when the world was changing rapidly for reasons unknown, before anyone understood exactly what was happening, when life as everyone knew it was upended and altered in ways no one could have ever imagined. The series also stars Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia, and Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris.

I’m avoiding the video myself, as I’m not quite up to date with Fear at this point and time. In any case, you can take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on August 21st!

Briefly: While we’re not likely to see our first footage from the upcoming seventh season of The Walking Dead until next week, AMC has officially debuted the key art for the upcoming episodes.

It’s an aggravating piece of art, because WHO THE HELL DID NEGAN KILL AT THE END OF SEASON SIX!?

We won’t know until October, but for now, here’s the image.

KeyArtTWD

Be sure to check back next week when we should see the first trailer for season seven, and stay tuned to Geekscape for everything SDCC!

Briefly: We may still be a week away from the actual convention, but that hasn’t stopped AMC from giving us our very first look at the upcoming episodes of Fear The Walking Dead.

The network has just debuted some slick new key art for the popular series, and two new still images to go along with it.

Now, I’m sure this isn’t all that we’ll see from Fear at this year’s Comic-Con; we’ll certainly see the first trailer for the main series, and I imagine we’ll see some for the spinoff as well. On top of that, convention goers will also have the opportunity to board the Abigail themselves on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00am – 9:00pm PT.

Briefly: Clementine’s sure growing up, isn’t she?

Telltale games has just revealed the first teaser trailer for the third season of its celebrated The Walking Dead video game, and while the teaser reveals very little, it would be hard not to get excited for this one.

Here’s what Telltale had to say about the trailer:

It’s just a brief glimpse, and we’re not yet ready to confirm a whole lot about exactly what it means… but there’s a lot of fodder in there for speculation.

So what CAN we say about this upcoming season? For a start, who’s that guy with Clementine? His name is Javier. Yes, Clem returns and will play a key role, but this is a new story as much as it is a continuation of Seasons One and Two. Players completely new to the Telltale series will be able to jump right in without feeling lost at all, and those familiar with previous seasons will perhaps find some even deeper meaning, as we’ll be working to ensure save file decisions will carry over from the last two games if you’ve played them in the past.

When it comes to Clementine, players’ relationships with her have very much evolved over the course of Seasons One and Two. In Season One, it was all about playing a more paternal role and helping a little girl find her feet and the courage to survive in a world gone to hell. Season Two was about Clementine developing her skills and becoming more independent of the people around her. In this next season, she’s in her early teens, and has grown to be a person who is clearly capable of handling herself – someone very much on the same level as Javier, a fellow survivor who has been through hell, and has managed to remain alive as long as Clem.

Clem has also been through a lot since we left her at the end of Season Two… and depending on the paths players may have taken with her in the past, she may or may not be exactly the same person we knew back then. You’ll play as both Javier and Clementine through the course of the season, but exactly how that works is one of the exciting details we’re not quite yet ready to reveal.

We’re thrilled to be able to share this with you. Stay tuned for more info on this new season as we head towards the premiere this fall!

The first season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead title remains one of my favourite games of all time, and I really cannot wait to get another taste. Take a look at the teaser below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

You might know actor José Pablo Castillo from his rolls on popular shows like ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Sons of Anarchy’ but you’d never guess that he loves designing games! That’s right! And now José and his friend Jeff Levine are guests on Geekscape to talk about the card game that they co-created: ‘Free Me’! This is a quick turn based game that makes fun of Social Media in the process! The more followers you lose, the closer you are to winning! It’s been a while since we’ve heard any new news about Telltale Games.

One of the lasts things we heard was last December where they announced BATMAN – The Telltale Series at The Game Awards. Since then, they haven’t made much of a peep, but it seems like we’re finally getting some new info on it. Creative Communications Head Job Stauffer has told the world when we can expect to explore Gotham City. According to Stauffer, Batman will be premiering this summer, while the highly anticipated Season 3 of The Walking Dead will arrive sometime this fall. He also hinted at the possibility of both games being playable at E3 next week. What do you think? Are you excited for any of these Telltale games? Tell us in the comments!

Briefly: I feel as though it was just yesterday that Telltale Games launched the first episode of its revered The Walking Dead: Michonne  miniseries, and already the tale will conclude next with with the release of the title’s third and final episode, “What We Deserve”.

In the episode, “feeling the weight of choices both recent and long ago, Michonne tries to protect an innocent family… but Norma and the vengeful Monroe crew are closing in. As reality shatters and the ghosts of the daughters she abandoned demand to be heard, your choices will determine who lives, who dies, and what redemption really means in a world gone to hell.”

As much as I don’t want Michonne to end, the sooner it does, the sooner Telltale can hopefully) spill the beans on the next chapter of The Walking Dead proper… I need to see what happens to my Clementine!

In any case, you can take a look at the trailer for “What We Deserve” below, and let us know what you hope to see in the episode! The Walking Dead: Michonne concludes on April 26th!

Briefly: Negan is coming.

And AMC has just given us our first kind of look at the incredibly anticipated character before his debut on this Sunday’s season finale of The Walking Dead.

Yep, he’s holding Lucille, and shit is about to get crazy.

still haven’t caught up on this season of The Walking Dead (I’m about six episodes behind at this point), but as an avid reader of Robert Kirkman’s comic book, I need to make time to get reacquainted with the series this week.

Take a look at the Negan teaser image below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: If you’re a regular around these parts, you’ll know that we’re huge fans of Telltale’s The Walking Dead video game series.

Last month, the first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne was released, and as much as I’ve loved what I’ve played of the title so far, I really, really just want to see what happens to Clementine, and I’m sure that I’m not alone in that sentiment.

Mashable today reported that Telltale should officially reveal the third season of the game right around SDCC, and that the first episode will be released before the year’s end.

Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner spoke of the upcoming season, noting that “From a role-playing, interactive storytelling point of view, it is not from the bag of tricks that we’ve ever shown anybody before. The way that we’re dealing with and validating and retaining all those different playthroughs is really cool and unexpected and, I think, pretty innovative from the storytelling point of view.”

Yep, we cannot freaking wait.

Are you looking forward to the third season of The Walking Dead? What did you think of the first episode of Michonne? Be sure to sound out in the comments below!

Graphics and animations have both vastly improved from the game's first season.

Briefly: Following that gorgeous key art from earlier today, AMC has officially debuted the first teaser trailer for next month’s return of Fear the Walking Dead.

Yep, even within the 30-second trailer, it’s pretty clear pretty quickly that hopping on a boat was a bad idea.

Fear the Walking Dead takes us back to the beginning of the zombie apocalypse – a time when the world was changing rapidly for reasons unknown, before anyone understood exactly what was happening, when life as everyone knew it was upended and altered in ways no one could have ever imagined. The series also stars Frank Dillane  as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia, and  Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see next season. Fear the Walking Dead returns on April 10th!

Briefly: With just over a month left until Fear the Walking Dead reunites us with our favourite post-apocalyptic broken family, AMC has just debuted the season’s official, officially gorgeous key art.

You’d think that in this sort of situation, being on a boat would be exactly where you’d want to be. Apparently (based on the image, anyways), this is not going to be the case.

Briefly: It’s almost here!

After being teased for what seems like forever, earlier this month Telltale finally let us know when we’d be able to get our hands on the first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne mini-series.

Last week, they showed off the game’s stunning opening 6 minutes.

Michonne will debut on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on tomorrow, with a release on iOS and Android devices on February 25th, so today the developer debuted the bad-ass launch trailer for this first episode.

The debut episode is called ‘In Too Deep’, and in it, “Michonne joins Pete and his crew on the sailing ship The Companion as they cruise the coast for survivors and supplies. When a desperate signal for help draws them to a scene of horrific massacre, Michonne and the crew are lead further to the floating survivors’ colony of Monroe, which may just be harboring the person responsible for the carnage.”

Take a look at the launch trailer below, and let us know just how excited you are to play!

The Second Season of AMC’s ‘Better Call Saul’ premieres tonight and what better way to celebrate than with a visit from Michael Mando, who plays Nacho Varga on the show! We talk about workings with heavyweights like Vince Gilligan and Jonathan Banks and how this is “the best show on TV” (as I call it)! For videogame fans, Michael gives us the origin story to his super popular ‘Far Cry 3’ character Vaas Montenegro and how sometimes you’ve got to just stay positive for things to happen for you! We also preview the release of his upcoming short film ‘Wake Up’ and talk a little filmmaking! Enjoy!

Briefly: Last week, Telltale Games finally let us know just when we’ll be getting our dirty mitts on the first episode of their The Walking Dead: Michonne miniseries, and last night the company debuted the first six minutes of the anticipated title.

Briefly: Finally.

We’ve been eagerly anticipating Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead: Michonne miniseries since it was announced all the way back at E3, and the publisher has finally let us know just when we’ll be able to experience the first episode.

The game’s first chapter, titled ‘In Too Deep’ will debut on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on February 23rd, with a release on iOS and Android devices on February 25th. The entire miniseries will cost a cool $14.99 US on all platforms.

The next episode, ‘Give No Shelter,’ will follow in March, and the miniseries will conclude with ‘What We Deserve,’ in April.

Here’s what Michonne is all about:

Stepping into the lead role of Michonne, award-winning actress Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black) will portray the iconic character from the comic book series haunted by her past and coping with unimaginable loss and regret. The story explores her untold journey during the time between issues #126 and #139. Through this three-episode Telltale Games series, players will discover what took Michonne away from Rick, Ezekiel, and the rest of her trusted group… and what brought her back.

In the first episode,  “Michonne joins Pete and his crew on the sailing ship The Companion as they cruise the coast for survivors and supplies. When a desperate signal for help draws them to a scene of horrific massacre, Michonne and the crew are lead further to the floating survivors’ colony of Monroe, which may just be harboring the person responsible for the carnage.”
