Briefly: We’re finally just a week away from a the start of a new season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and after the company revealed last week that the season would launch with a two episode premiere, the official launch trailer has just been released.

It’s bound to be a heart-wrenching, tear-jerking few hours, and I can’t freaking wait to get my hands on it. Regulars around these parts may remember that the game’s first season is one of my favourite titles of all time, and it’s been way, way too long since I’ve been able to catch up with Clementine.

For now, we’ll have to watch the game’s gorgeous launch trailer below, and speculate as to what may happen when we meet Javier on December 20th.

Briefly: I can’t even…

At last night’s fantastic The Game Awards, we witnessed many emotional moments, were surprised by many of the award recipients, and saw some World Premiere trailers for a multitude of incredible looking titles (like Prey, oh man Prey).

The biggest surprise of all? For me, it wasn’t Uncharted 4 not taking home GOTY (I could hear Shane cheering all the way from Canada), That Dragon, Cancer taking home the Games For Change award, or the incredible gameplay reveal for Mass Effect: Andromedait’s the fact that Telltale is breaking their tried and true mould by releasing two episodes of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, on December 20th.

The fantastic (heart-wrenching) trailer introduced us to our new hero, Javier, and just how he and Clementine came to meet. Telltale simply noted that this tale’s opening was simply too large for one episode, so when A New Frontier premieres on December 20th, we’ll have twice as much content to play.

Telltale’s The Walking Dead is among my favourite game series’ of all time, so you better believe I’ll be jumping right into this one.

For now, you’ll have watch (and re-watch) the first look below, but I’d love to hear what your favourite moment in the series has been thus far.

Briefly: We were sort of expecting to see the premiere episode of the third season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead sometime in November, but the publisher has just revealed some new detail about the upcoming episode, some slick new key art, and that it’ll actually debut on December 20th.

The third season is officially titled The Walking Dead: The New Frontier, and as we already knew, Clem is quite a bit older than she was the last time that we saw her. In the game, “When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Four years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last”

I’m absolutely terrified of what we’ll have to go through…

In any case, the first episode will hit PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, MacOS, iOS, and Android on December 20th worldwide, while a ‘Season Pass Disc’ including the game up to the third episode (and downloads of the next two) will hit PS4 and Xbox One in February.

An extended first look at the debut episode will premiere at next week’s The Game Awards, so you better bet we’ll be watching. For now, take a look at the key art below, and let us know if you’re excited.

Briefly: Clementine’s sure growing up, isn’t she?

Telltale games has just revealed the first teaser trailer for the third season of its celebrated The Walking Dead video game, and while the teaser reveals very little, it would be hard not to get excited for this one.

Here’s what Telltale had to say about the trailer:

It’s just a brief glimpse, and we’re not yet ready to confirm a whole lot about exactly what it means… but there’s a lot of fodder in there for speculation.

So what CAN we say about this upcoming season? For a start, who’s that guy with Clementine? His name is Javier. Yes, Clem returns and will play a key role, but this is a new story as much as it is a continuation of Seasons One and Two. Players completely new to the Telltale series will be able to jump right in without feeling lost at all, and those familiar with previous seasons will perhaps find some even deeper meaning, as we’ll be working to ensure save file decisions will carry over from the last two games if you’ve played them in the past.

When it comes to Clementine, players’ relationships with her have very much evolved over the course of Seasons One and Two. In Season One, it was all about playing a more paternal role and helping a little girl find her feet and the courage to survive in a world gone to hell. Season Two was about Clementine developing her skills and becoming more independent of the people around her. In this next season, she’s in her early teens, and has grown to be a person who is clearly capable of handling herself – someone very much on the same level as Javier, a fellow survivor who has been through hell, and has managed to remain alive as long as Clem.

Clem has also been through a lot since we left her at the end of Season Two… and depending on the paths players may have taken with her in the past, she may or may not be exactly the same person we knew back then. You’ll play as both Javier and Clementine through the course of the season, but exactly how that works is one of the exciting details we’re not quite yet ready to reveal.

We’re thrilled to be able to share this with you. Stay tuned for more info on this new season as we head towards the premiere this fall!

The first season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead title remains one of my favourite games of all time, and I really cannot wait to get another taste. Take a look at the teaser below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: If you’re a regular around these parts, you’ll know that we’re huge fans of Telltale’s The Walking Dead video game series.

Last month, the first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne was released, and as much as I’ve loved what I’ve played of the title so far, I really, really just want to see what happens to Clementine, and I’m sure that I’m not alone in that sentiment.

Mashable today reported that Telltale should officially reveal the third season of the game right around SDCC, and that the first episode will be released before the year’s end.

Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner spoke of the upcoming season, noting that “From a role-playing, interactive storytelling point of view, it is not from the bag of tricks that we’ve ever shown anybody before. The way that we’re dealing with and validating and retaining all those different playthroughs is really cool and unexpected and, I think, pretty innovative from the storytelling point of view.”

Yep, we cannot freaking wait.

Are you looking forward to the third season of The Walking Dead? What did you think of the first episode of Michonne? Be sure to sound out in the comments below!

Graphics and animations have both vastly improved from the game's first season.

Briefly: So I’m not a big toy guy. I have no problem throwing dozens of dollars down on comic books each week, and while I can appreciate those that collect toys (and can definitely appreciate the figures themselves), I have a hard time bringing myself to spending a ton of money on something that’s just going to sit on a shelf (as opposed to the pieces of paper that I buy that sit in boxes for years).

With all of the incredible toy announcements this year, however, I feel like that’s about to change. Disney Infinity 2.0 almost got me. Amiibo’s are going to destroy my wallet, and I’m definitely going to throw down for at least a few of the McFarlane Building Sets, but New York Comic-Con saw the announcement of a figure I’ll gladly display with pride.

The Walking Dead‘s Clementine, possibly one of the best video game characters ever, is getting a fantastic figure from McFarlane Toys.

Details are still slim at this point, including pricing and release dates, but Telltale has noted that “Exclusively from Skybound, the Clem figure will be available in both Full Color and in Blood Splattered Color versions and comes with backpack, pistol, and hammer.”

We’ll take one of each, please. Take a look at the first two images of the figure below, and let us know if you’ll be picking one up. For Clementine!

Briefly: I can’t believe that the second season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead is so close to concluding. It feels like just yesterday that I played through the first season’s first episode for the first time on my now-ancient PS3, instantly enthralled (and horrified) by the gravity and instantaneousness of the terrible, terrible choices that I had to make during the course of its five episodes.

Telltale has released a five-plus minute long trailer for the final episode (of this season, a third season was confirmed at Comic-Con), and it’s a tearjerker. I don’t wan’t to reveal too much, but the video is an incredible chronicling of Clementine’s journey so far, complete with footage of her past that we haven’t yet seen. Of course we’ve experienced most of this, but it’s strange seeing her change so much in just a few minutes time.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you’ve thought of the season so far. After the closing moments of last month’s episode, I’m itching to see what happens next (as long as they don’t kill her).

When will you be able to play? Here’s the info:

August 26th: PC/Mac via Steam, the Telltale Online Store and other digital distribution services; on the PlayStation Store in North America (SCEA) for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita

August 27th: Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft; on the PlayStation Store in European territories (SCEE) for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita

August 28th: Available as an in-app purchase within The Walking Dead: Season Two on the iOS App Store

Briefly: Following the episode’s first screenshots from last week, Telltale has let us know just when we’ll be able to play the next episode of The Walking Dead. Here are the details:

July 22nd: PC/Mac via Steam, the Telltale Online Store and other digital distribution services; on the PlayStation Store in North America (SCEA) for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita

July 23rd: Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft; on the PlayStation Store in European territories (SCEE) for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita

July 24th: Available as an in-app purchase within The Walking Dead: Season Two on the iOS App Store

A new trailer for the episode has also been released, so you can take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’re enjoying season two so far!

Briefly: Telltale has just debuted the very first screenshots for the next episode of The Walking Dead: Season 2, titled Amid the Ruins.

We still don’t know just when we’ll be able to play the episode, but Telltale typically doesn’t talk about or release anything from an chapter until they’re almost ready to release it, so I’d look out for another update soon.

Take a look at the new screens below, and let us know what you’ve thought of the season so far!

Briefly: Just last week we saw the first screenshots from the next episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, titled In Harm’s Way.

Now, we have a brutal trailer, and an imminent release date.

Here are the release dates, straight from Telltale’s twitter account:

And the trailer, which you DEFINITELY shouldn’t watch if you haven’t finished episode two yet:

Looks great, right? What do you hope to see next week? Sound out below!

Briefly: We’ve been waiting (and waiting) to find out just when we’ll be able to continue Clementine’s horrific journey in Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and today the developer finally let us know (at least for PS3 players).

The game’s second episode, titled ‘A House Divided’ will hit PS3 this coming Tuesday, March 4th. Xbox 360 and iOS will follow shortly, while episodes 1 and 2 will hit the Playstation Vita near the end of the month.

Telltale has also released a new trailer for the episode, which you can gush over below (we’re gushing). If you missed it, you can read our review of the first episode here, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see next week.

First up: I’ve kept my review of All That Remains as spoiler-free as possible. That being said, there are some season one spoilers below, so be warned if you haven’t finished it yet. You have finished it though, right? Season one was almost everyone’s favourite title of 2012 (including ours). Get on it!

Damn you, Telltale.

I can’t count how many times I thought or uttered those words throughout the duration of All That Remains. Right from the opening line, hearing our gone (but certainly not never forgotten) friend Lee Everett recap the happenings of the game’s stellar first season, I knew what I was in for: Telltale is on a mission to break all of our hearts yet again (and again… and again). Mission accomplished.

Lee's not there to save you this time.
Lee’s not there to save you this time.

All That Remains kicks off some 16 months after season one’s conclusion. We do get to catch up with some of season one’s other prominent characters, but this time, of course, Clem is front and centre. She’s a little older, a little taller, and a lot wiser than she was when we last left her, and this time around, instead of acting as her guardian, she doesn’t have one, and it’s up to you to directly control the character and make every tough decision for her.

And what tough decisions they are. Within a few moments of the game’s opening my jaw was on the floor. Then it happened again, and again, then I cried… you get the picture. It’s tough to describe without ruining it (and The Walking Dead is absolutely a game that you shouldn’t have ruined for you), but All That Remains, largely setup as it is, left me an absolute wreck. Just when you think that Telltale couldn’t have any more surprises in store, just when there couldn’t possibly be a harder choice, just when you think they couldn’t possibly rip your heart out again, just when you think they wouldn’t go there, they go there.

Damn you, Telltale.

As always, the game is relentlessly forcing you into situations that you don’t want to be in, and pushing you into impossible decisions that you don’t want to make. This time though, everything feels different. Playing as a child, making these choices from a kid’s point of view, changes everything. You have options that would have never been options with Lee, as his hardened, bleak perspective on the world is one that Clementine hasn’t fully realized yet. It almost feels as though Clementine has hope, which is something that’s arguably even more heartbreaking than any decision we’ve had to make so far, and especially so knowing how the lives of those connected to her tend to turn out. All That Remains is just the beginning, and I have a feeling that we haven’t seen anything yet. Things are only going to get harder, decisions are only going to get worse, and if Clementine dies in the end, I’m going to freaking explode.

Ah, Omid. It's great to see a familiar face, isn't it?
Ah, Omid. It’s great to see a familiar face, isn’t it?

Technically, everything seems vastly improved from last year’s offering. I still experienced that classic Telltale slowdown (again playing on PS3, so I can’t vouch for other platforms), and while annoying, it seemed (mostly) limited to the opening few seconds after every loading screen, a major improvement from season one’s consistent stutter. Character models look much better than last year (and I thought that they looked great before), but the biggest graphical improvements are definitely the game’s environments and backgrounds. Last year’s trees, backdrops, and buildings seemed oddly low resolution at times, with little to no animation even in areas that you would expect to see it. This time around, trees sway in the wind, grass moves when you walk over it, and almost every texture looks substantially higher resolution than those that came before.

All That Remains also boasts a much improved camera system. You still don’t have any control over it (which I’m all for in a title like this), but this year’s version feels much more cinematic. Rather than a largely still shot, with an occasional pan and lots of cuts, the camera in All That Remains seems much more inclined to follow you, tracking smoothly as you move between trees, along porches, or wherever else the game may take you.

Action sequences have taken a note from The Wolf Among Us (which we loved the first episode of) here, and bring a few welcome changes to the table: buttons are larger and easier to see, a very clear radius system lets us know just how close or far away we can be and still activate something, and the action in general seems streamlined, more cinematic, and much more entertaining to be a part of. The developer has also broken up the action with a few simple (essentially fetch quests), but very welcome puzzles that give you just a few moments to catch your breath. Also, the much appreciated faster-walk button from The Wolf Among Us has been included (thank you). There were some painfully slow walking moments in season one, so I’m very happy to see that those moments will not make the jump to season two.

Graphics and animations have both vastly improved from the game's first season.
Graphics and animations have both vastly improved from the game’s first season.

Looking back on the evolution of The Walking Dead, it’s easy to see just how much Telltale has grown since the very first episode (A New Day) all the way back in April of 2012. I doubt that the developer could have known the absolute acclaim and dozens (upon dozens) of awards that were in store for them when that first episode went live last year, but it’s clear by the titles now in the works (both Borderlands AND Game of Thrones) just how infatuated the world has become with this little(ish) studio that could. Essentially all of the criticisms (aside from the few technical stutters) that we had with last year’s iterations have been solved and improved upon, and I’m both insatiably excited and incredibly terrified to see what the next episode, A House Divided brings to the table.

We said it last year, and we’re saying it again. Telltale’s The Walking Dead is the definitive version of the franchiseAs much as we love the Image comic series, and as great as the AMC series can be (especially this year), the video game is better. Even if you’re not a gamer, if you’re a fan of narrative entertainment, you owe it to yourself to check this out.

The Walking Dead: Season Two, Episode One – All That Remains scores a tear-jerking 4.5/5.

Briefly: It’s nearly here. The game that Geekscape (and likely all of you) have been waiting for since November 20th, 2012: the continuation of Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

Lee’s journey may have come to an end, but his trials and tribulations will not be forgotten. Without him, Clementine wouldn’t have made it (over and over again), and she wouldn’t be as prepared for this new world as she is now.

Telltale has just launched a new, full trailer for this season’s premiere episode, “All That Remains”. The trailer shows off just a few of the situations you’ll find yourself in once the episode finally releases (Telltale says that’s “very soon”, but is probably December 17th), and they look to be the exact situations that you feared last year. You never wanted to see Clementine like this!

I feel as though we’ll be getting a much different game this time around. The title’s main mechanic, of course, is the reactions, choices, and conversations that you make, and putting a child into these situations instead of an adult can only complicate things (when’s the last time you took a child seriously).

All fears aside, we can’t wait to play. Take a look at the newest trailer below, and let us know what you think!

The Walking Dead: Season Two – A Telltale Games Series will continue the story of Clementine, a young girl orphaned at the outset of the undead apocalypse, now left to her own devices to seek safety and survive in a world gone mad.  Now assuming the role of an ordinary child, players will struggle to outwit both the dead and the living in situations that will test their morals and control the flow of the story through their decisions and actions.

Briefly: Telltale Games knows exactly how to break your heart, and today they destroyed mine in just a few seconds.

The second season of The Walking Dead may launch its premiere episode on December 17th, in which case it’s about time to start its marketing push. The developer shared a short Vine video earlier today (just like they did with 400 Days),  which spotlights a lonely Clementine looking back on her recent, gut-wrenching past.

There are definitely spoilers below if you haven’t finished the first season. If you have completed it, take a look at the tiny preview below, and when you’re done crying, let us know just how excited (and terrified) you are to jump back into this world.

Briefly: We couldn’t be more excited for Telltale to launch the second season of The Walking Dead adventure game. Last year’s season was our favourite title of the year (and it was a great year for gaming), and it’s still an experience that we recommend often and talk about frequently.

We knew that the second season would premiere sometime in December, but we now may know just what day that is.

According to the official Steam page for the title, the PC version will launch on Tuesday, December 17th:

Screen Shot 2013-12-05 at 9.38.24 PM

It’s likely that, if this date is correct, we’ll see it on other platforms that day too: it’s PSN update Tuesday as well, so the title likely won’t have that slight delay like The Wolf Among Us did.

Now, nothing is official until it’s official, but we’ll be sure to update you on this one as we learn more. Rewatch the game’s first trailer below, and be sure to let us know just how excited you are for this one! Also, how freaking incredible is it that The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead will be running at the same time?

Briefly: The second season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead is set to kick off later this month, and we couldn’t be more excited! The first season was my favourite game of 2012, and it seems like an absolute dream come true that Telltale will be running two incredible adventures at once (The Wolf Among Us, and the second season of The Walking Dead.)

Telltale has released a new image from the game, which confirms the return of another of season one’s prominent characters, Omid. The company has also revealed the title of the upcoming first chapter, “All That Remains.”

Take a look at the image below, and let us know if you’re excited! The Walking Dead: Season Two is set to kick off this month, and we’ll be sure to share anything new that’s released!

TWDOmid

Briefly: Following Telltale’s teaser earlier this week, the first trailer for the second season of The Walking Dead adventure game has just been revealed.

Clementine’s back! According to the press release, many months have passed since the events seen in Season One of The Walking Dead, and Clementine is searching for safety. But what can an ordinary child do to stay alive when the living can be just as bad — and sometimes worse — than the dead?

As Clementine, you will be tested by situations and dilemmas that will test your morals and your instinct for survival. Your decisions and actions will change the story around you, in this sequel to 2012’s Game of the Year.

This first trailer doesn’t reveal much about the title, but it’s awesome to learn that Clementine has taken the spotlight again (and that we’ll actually get to play as her). We’ve known for some time that she would be involved in the second season, but not that she would be the central character. Telltale has also revealed that the choices that you made in both Season One and 400 Days will affect your story in Season Two.

Take a look at the first trailer below, and let us know what you think! The Walking Dead: Season Two will begin later this year on PS3, Xbox 360, OS X, Windows, and iOS! The game is available for pre-order now on Steam and the Telltale Store, and pre-ordering will get you a cool 10% off! This is the announcement that I’ve been waiting for since Season One concluded last year!

Briefly: Telltale Games has just teased the second season of The Walking Dead.

The developer took to twitter tonight with a classic quote and a nostalgic image. “Keep that hair short” was an instruction that Lee gave to Clementine last season, and the image will be clearly familiar to anyone who has played the game (and all of you have played the game, right?)

The image also has a date on it: this Tuesday, October 29th at 12PM (3PM Eastern). Whether it’s a first trailer, the first details, or the release of the first episode is unknown at this point, but all of us at Geekscape are excited as hell for this one. Telltale revealed back at SDCC that season two would feature Clementine, and I really can’t wait jump back into this world!

Take a look at Telltale’s tweet below, and let us know what you hope they’ll reveal! I’ll be hopping on a plane to LA during the announcement, and I feel as though this is all I’ll be thinking about the entirety of the flight!

Briefly: During Telltale’s The Walking Dead panel at this year’s Comic-Con, Telltale revealed some first details about the game’s second season.

First up: Clementine’s back. It’s unknown what role she’ll play in the next chapter, or whether she’ll be a main character or just a cameo, but I’m ecstatic to learn that one of gaming’s best characters ever will return this Fall.

Second: We may have left Kenny back in that alleyway in episode 5, but Telltale isn’t done with him yet. Telltale revealed during the panel that Season 2 will explore the (apparently) uncertain fate of the character. Cool, huh?

This is amazing. It’s incredible that an adventure game could go on both to sell so well, and be so universally acclaimed. I loved every second of season one and 400 Days, and I cannot wait to get back into this world.

Season two of Telltale’s The Walking Dead launches this Fall!

Briefly:  The Walking Dead: 400 Days just hit the Playstation Store, and Telltale has debuted an exciting launch trailer for the episode.

PS3 gamers are the only ones lucky enough to experience the chapter today. Everyone else, here are your dates:

-Wednesday, July 3rd – PC/Mac (Steam, Telltale Games Store)
-Friday, July 5th – Xbox Live (Worldwide)
-Wednesday, July 10th – PlayStation Network (Europe)
-Thursday, July 11th – iOS (Worldwide)

Take a look at the launch trailer below, and let us know how 400 Days holds up to the rest of the phenomenal The Walking Dead experience. I can’t wait to give this one a shot, as The Walking Dead was the BEST game I played last year!

The video is kind of awful (and beyond awkward), but seeing as it reveals plenty of The Walking Dead: 400 Days info, it’s definitely worth the watch.

Telltale’s upcoming DLC for 2012’s best game is coming sooner than you’d expect. In a new episode of ‘Playing Dead’, the developer has revealed that The Walking Dead: 400 Days will launch for a cool $4.99 in early July.

The video reveals that 400 Days is set after the conclusion of the game’s first season, and is not directly related to the content that you’ve already played. A season one playthrough is not required to understand the chapter, but those who have completed the game will feel “familiar”, and get a better understanding of exactly what’s going on.

The most exciting part of the video (for me, at least), is not the info on the DLC, but a small revelation about The Walking Dead: Season Two400 Days director Sean Answorth states that “[We’re] trying not to do the same thing. I mean, that’s what season two is for, right? I mean, we’re going to go into season two, and continue the story started in season one.”

Could the story of Lee and Clementine continue? Telltale’s The Walking Dead is one of the most incredible, emotional gaming experiences I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing (second only to the just released The Last of Us… maybe), and I would do almost anything to learn the future of these characters.

Watch the newest episode of ‘Playing Dead’ below, and let us know if you’re excited for the DLC!

UPDATE: Release dates have been revealed! IGN has learned the launch dates for The Walking Dead: 400 Days. Check them out below.

-Tuesday, July 2nd – PlayStation Network (North America)
-Wednesday, July 3rd – PC/Mac (Steam, Telltale Games Store)
-Friday, July 5th – Xbox Live (Worldwide)
-Wednesday, July 10th – PlayStation Network (Europe)
-Thursday, July 11th – iOS (Worldwide)

We’re beyond excited for the release. Luckily, I’m a PS3 player… now I just need to find the time to play! Which platform will you be playing on?
