Geekscape Comics: Weekly Reads!

I’m slowly transitioning Weekly Reads into Best Bets. Best Bets is going to be the place for quick recommendations and thoughts on new releases. It will be a curation of what I think is the best of comics for that week. In contrast to that, I will start a new article that will be much more focused pieces that I’ve been itching to write.

To summarize:
– This will be the last “Weekly Reads”
– A lot of the content here will be discussed in “Best Bets” instead
– Look forward to more interesting comic-related content

💪 Eclipse #1
Eclipse was this weeks Best Bet, and I’d say we were right to say so 😊.

💪 Kill Or Be Killed #2
This book is must read, a little dark, but very accessible. If The Black Monday Murders is too intimidating, try this book on for size. You won’t be disappointed.

💁 Paper Girls #9
… Still haven’t found the time to read it. 😅

DC

👌Aquaman #6
After the first two issues, I didn’t think much of this title but since then I’ve been won over with each issue.

👌Batman #6
This book contains one of the nicest drawings of Gotham that you’ll ever see, an emotional Batman, and a big-time villain reveal. Feels like a transition issue between story arcs but even so, it was very well done.

👌Cyborg – Rebirth #1

This book provides a good introduction to Cyborg if you are unfamilar with the character (like I was). These Rebirth titles should be free as it doesn’t come close to the quality of a lot of the other DC titles at this price point. I’m interested in what happens next but as a prune back my DC titles, this probably won’t make the cut.

💪 Green Arrow #6

The new arc begins.

“SINS OF THE MOTHER”! Following the shocking events with the Ninth Circle, Green Arrow’s wayward sister/sidekick Emiko travels to Japan on a quest to destroy the crime lords who control her mother, Shado, the assassin who murdered Oliver Queen.

Hopefully it’s a good as the last. Green Arrow is one of the best ongoing DC titles.

🙅 Harley Quinn #3
… Not enough time to keep up with this series.

👎 Justice League #4

Surprisingly meh title. Hasn’t established a flow after four issues. Who knows maybe I’m just dumb but I’d recommend any character from the Justice League’s solo book over this.

💪 Nightwing #4

The fourth issue concluded the “Better Than Batman” story arc in tremendous fashion. This title is really starting to get into a groove.

👌 Supergirl #1

I love the art style of this book. Everything else about it is decent, I think I’m just a little Super’d out.

👌 Superman #6

The moon gets the crap kicked out of it. I’m not enjoying this as much as Action Comics but it has had some pretty sweet moments.

Geekscape Comics: Weekly Reads!

Welcome back to Weekly Reads! Where we take a moment on New Comic Book Day to reflect upon last week’s titles!

Before jumping in, an update: I’m starting a small, new, hopefully weekly post titled Best Bets (you can find the first post here). Simply put, it’ll be a recommendation of the best book (or books, depending on how many high-quality titles are being released) to purchase that week. That’ll be the core, then I imagine we’ll have some other types of recommendations come out of it too. It should be a lot of fun! Weekly Reads is probably going to see some formatting changes as well, but since I’m not sure what they are yet, I’ll save that for another day.

So they say that the first step of breaking an addiction is admitting you have a problem? Well, I have a problem. I’m getting way too wrapped up in the DC Universe and it’s causing me to get behind on a lot of (often higher quality) titles that I want to be reading. If anyone has advice on trimming back your pull list, that’d be greatly appreciated 😀! Until then, let’s talk about last week in comics… or at least in the DC Universe…

If you’ve been following along for awhile now, you’re probably starting to see a trend in my DC section. Namely, I praise the same titles every other week. Which makes sense because most of their titles are being released biweekly, so instead of just gushing over Green Arrow and Batman, how about I gave you a few second breakdown on each book this week?

Aquaman #5 – 💪

This issue feels a lot like Action Comics, it’s pretty much non-stop action from start to finish, and a nice little surprise waiting for you at the end. “The Drowning” story arc will conclude next issue (two weeks from now) and I’m not going to have a problem recommending the trade when it’s released, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the title so far.

Batgirl & the Birds of Prey #1 – 💁

I didn’t read it! Maybe there is hope for me after all.

Batman #5 – 💪

Issue 5 puts a nice, little bow on the “I Am Gotham” arc. It answers a lot of questions and it’s a lot of fun to see some other characters coming to aid Batman in his battle against the god-like Gotham (or Gotham Man, or whatever you like to call him). I have no problem recommending this run to friends, it looks like Batman is in good hands with King.

Green Arrow #5 – 💪

Green Arrow wraps up it’s ongoing arch this week as well. This run felt very much like Miller’s Born Again Daredevil run (high praise). If you would have asked me when Rebirth happened what my favourite titles would be, Green Arrow wouldn’t even have been a consideration, so I’m glad I gave it a chance. Definitely a favourite of the Rebirth books.

Green Lanterns #5 – 👌

This series has grown more and more on me with each issue and this week is no different. The “Red Planet” arc is in full swing and Jessica is going to have to step-up to the plate in a big way next issue to save Earth from becoming the next home of the Red lanterns!

Harley Quinn #2 – 👌

This series is far from must-read, I was suckered into it because I was surprised by the first issue. Basically, this is DC’s Deadpool, so if that’ your thing, you’ll probably like this book… or if you just like Harley Quinn, that might help too.

Justice League #3 – 👎

DC’s flagship title is probably one of it’s weakest right now. The transitions between issues are jarring and while there are big action pieces, nothing feels like it will carry any weight in the universe. I’m sure this title will hit it’s stride eventually, it just hasn’t happened yet.

Nightwing #3 – 👌

Batgirl joins Nightwing and Raptor this issue. This arc is starting to get really interesting. I’m loving
Javier Fernandez’s art.

Suicide Squad #1 – 👎

This might be the first time I didn’t like an #1 as much as the Rebirth issue that come before it. Perhaps a new Jim Lee book makes it worth the price but right now there just isn’t enough going on for me to recommend it… hopefully it picks up the pace in the coming issues.

Supergirl – Rebirth #1 – 👎

Book is technically enjoyable, just not worth buying.

Superman #5 – 💪

Action Comics isn’t the only solid super hero book on the market, Superman is almost as hot! We have Superman, Lois, their son, and Eradicator all up on the moon. Oh, and as the cover hints, the Hellbat suite! This issue was a blast.

Black Widow #6 – 💪

Every issue Chris Samnee and Mark Waid deliver a comic book experience like no other. This book is unreal.

Power Man and Iron Fist #7 – 👌

The days of Power Man and Iron Fist being must-read are now behind us, but this book is still enjoyable and only loosely connected to Civil War II (that might all change next issue). The humour still exists but isn’t as commonplace as it was the first few issues. Go pick up the first five issues and wait and see how this story pans out.

We’re nearly a few months into DC’s Rebirth and that new and exciting feeling that came with it is starting to fade. Yes, there are still Rebirth titles being released but we have many series’ reaching their third issues. We are beginning to get a feel for what should be read and what can be left behind. It’d be nice to read everything but unless you have a lot of time and a lot of money, it just isn’t feasible. It’s time to think about what can be cut from our weekly reading. That said, I did a boat load of DC reading again this week…

👌 Batgirl and the Birds of Prey – Rebirth #1

As far as the Rebirth titles go, nothing special here. They have that same Free Comic Book Day/get acquainted with the characters feeling that most Rebirth titles have had thus far. Birds of Prey revolves around the team of Batgirl, Huntress and Black Canary. It looks like they’re going to be hunting down a villain who stole the entity of Oracle and is messing with Barbara’s identity. Constantine is back in The Hellblazer, depending on your interests you may be more familiar with the character from the television show than his 300-issue comic book run, or if you’re like me, neither. This issue was a lot of fun and did a great job introducing me to the characters and the world, I’ll probably stick with this for at least a story arc. I think fans of AMC’s Preacher may enjoy this title.

Justice League begins and aliens are still attacking and it looks like they are going to have to deal with some of the side effects of The Blood Prophecy from Green Lanterns. There are some nice scenery and a few action-packed panels in this title but overall it’s not quite firing on all cylinders yet. A lot of style, but not a lot of substance.

Green Arrow is still going strong. If I could only follow one DC book, this would be it. Art is great, writing is tight and each issue leaves you craving more! In Batman, we got to learn a little about the origins of Gotham and Gotham Girl. As well as find out Hugo Strange has found himself a partner! Finch’s art style for Gotham feels spot on. Green Lanterns continues to explore the dynamic between Jessica and Simon, the newest green lanterns. I’ve been slowly appreciating and enjoying this story more and more with every issue. Aquaman is starting to feel too political for my liking. For me, Aquaman is at it’s best when there is more water in the environment, here it takes place mostly in buildings. Superman, I was wondering what the heck was going on, until I realized I forgot to read #2. So I’ll have to take care of that business before getting too much farther ahead.

Again, my take on these new series’ are that you should read what characters interest you. With the exception of Green Arrow, I don’t think any title is a whole lot better or worse than any other title. Explore, dip your toes in a few different books and find out what you like.

Yes, I’m losing interest in all things Marvel Comics currently. There are just too many other good books on the market to spend my time reading their currently mediocre stories. That said, I did give the latest Spider-Man a read.

This issue just wasn’t for me. There was far too much dialogue for my liking. I felt a lot of the stuff that was explained through dialogue could have been explained in different ways but that’s ok, I don’t know the grand vision of the story so maybe this issue will pay off down the road. Despite not enjoying most of the issue, there are still a few plot points I’m interested in so I can’t drop the series just yet.

If you’ve been reading Weekly Reads for awhile now you’ll know I haven’t thought too highly of the current X-Men books, especially Uncanny, so I decided to pull the trigger this week and drop it. Let me know if I made a mistake.

👌 Snotgirl #1

I started hearing about Snotgirl quite a bit a few weeks ago, I quickly judged it by it’s cover (and title) as something I wasn’t interested in. Then I found out it was written by Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott Pilgrim, Seconds, etc.) so I hesitantly decided this is a must-read. I’ll summarize the experience: cover, didn’t interest me. First few pages, didn’t interest me. Next few pages, didn’t interest me. Last few pages, still not that interested. Last page, ok, I’ll pick up the next one. Leslie Hung’s art goes great with O’Malley’s words but her style isn’t really my thing. Basically, this story is just strange enough and the ending just enough of a cliffhanger to make me want more. If O’Malley didn’t write this would I read the next issue? Probably not, but he did and therefore I will.

👌 Black Hammer #1

Honestly, at this point I’m getting sort of tired of writing about comic books and the debut of Black Hammer didn’t wow me enough to make me any more enthusiastic to write about one more book, but I’ll try anyways. This book also falls under the category of wouldn’t-have-read-it-if-it-wasn’t-for-the-writer-behind-it. Basically we have a group of super heroes who have been displaced in time and are living a simple farming life, most of them aren’t content with it. This issue we meet them and discover someone from their time is going to track them down. That’s about it, nothing too interesting. I’ll probably read the second issue though because you know, it’s Jeff Lemire.

I can’t get enough of DC’s Rebirth. Eventually, I’ll cut back (in fact, I almost skipped Green Lanterns) but I’ll wait until things get a little tougher to keep up with. Green Arrow has been blowing me away and is my favourite of the current Rebirth titles. Percy is telling a Green Arrow tale that is starting to feel a lot like a Frank Miller’s Born Again story arc for Daredevil. For those of you unfamiliar with the reference, it means good things, very good things.

Justice League Rebirth wasn’t as exciting as I was hoping it would be since it basically just served as an introduction to the team, but Hitch’s art provided enough action, spanning cities and giant monsters to make the issue enjoyable.

I don’t have much to say about the other titles. Batman is pretty solid so far, after two issues most of the chess pieces are in place and it looks like things are going to start getting really interesting for Batman, our new super-powered heroes, and the villain who is revealed by the issues conclusion. Green Lanterns and Aquaman are both decent enough reads, just not characters that I feel a strong connection to yet.

👌 The Punisher #3

Last week’s Amazing Spider-Man was interesting. It looks like Peter, MJ, and Regent may remember the events of Secret Wars. This came out of left field, so I’m not sure what the implications of it could be but I’m excited to find out. The issue concludes with a shocking twist, leaving one of our characters lifeless (probably not, but maybe) on the ground. I’d recommend picking up issues #13, #14 and #15 and start familiarizing yourself with this series. I have a feeling Amazing Spider-Man is going to find itself in must-read territory very soon.

Sure, this Punisher run isn’t reinventing the wheel, but it has been a lot of fun so far. It has everything you’d expect from a Punisher book; the Punisher, bad guys who are after The Punisher, good guys who don’t know whether they’re after bad guys or the Punisher, and a whole lot of violence!

I’ve previously mentioned The Fix isn’t as strong or funny of a title when the two characters aren’t together. The trend continues here as we see what Mac is up to. However, I found myself enjoying this issue as much as the first two. I can’t recommend this title enough, we’re only four issues in so go pick ’em up and get in on the fun!

I’m loving Vaughan’s Paper Girls. It is just so unlike anything I’ve ever read before. The art is a lot of fun and Vaughan’s plays with time travel (a concept that many would say has been done to death) in plenty of fun and inventive ways. This isn’t a series you can just start reading though, if you are interested I strongly suggest you begin with #1.

Pro Wrestling’s Cody Rhodes To Appear On ‘Arrow’ This Season!

Briefly: It looks like the Stephen Amell / Cody Rhodes feud is not quite finished yet, which I certainly wouldn’t have expected based on the fact that Rhodes left WWE back in May.

Amell himself had multiple RAW appearances throughout last year, and faced Rhodes’ Stardust character in a tag-team match during WWE’s Summerslam Pay-Per View last August.

Both Amell and Rhodes appeared at the “Wrestling Rivals” panel at Heroes & Villains FanFest in Secaucus, N.J. During the event, Amell let loose that Rhodes would appear in the third episode of Arrow‘s upcoming fifth season.

No information was revealed about Rhodes’ role, but Rhodes teased that “You can probably expect Stephen and I to get into another fight.”

We can’t freaking wait. The rivalry has been hilarious thus far, and as disappointed as I was when Rhodes left WWE in May (because I’m a huge fan and would love to see him in the ring as much as possible), I’m certainly glad that Rhodes appears to be making his rounds.

It all looked pretty complicated (and in a few ways it was)! But it was also really exciting and holds a lot of promise! Geekscape Recaps: Arrow – ‘Green Arrow’

After a wild Comic-Con appearance, the Green Arrow was on full display in Arrow’s season four premiere. Along with the new suit, we got a formal introduction as to who Damien Darhk is. So let’s get to it!

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Over the offseason, fans were repeatedly told we’d be getting a lot more humor and that the Arrow would be more like the Green Arrow from the comics. Well, this happy-go-lucky Oliver Queen made his debut within the first few minutes of the premiere and stuck around for the remainder of the episode. Though, the transition from a more docile life to being back in the thick of danger seemed fairly easy after Felicity confessed to missing everything that made her cry last season.

Lance Arrow 401

This episode also had a lot of characters putting blame on Oliver for everything bad that has ever happened to Star City, formally Starling City. However, it would seem that Lance is the main reason why everything bad is happening to Star City this season. Still, as we all know, Lance is pretty hotheaded when it comes to making decisions for the good of the city. It’s quite possible he was fooled into making a deal with the devil.

Arrow 401

As this season goes on, we can expect Oliver trying to adjust to a Diggle-led team while constantly looking out for his sister, Speedy. Lance’s betrayal will also be played out which will ultimately lead to Lance being okay with Oliver dressing up as the Green Arrow. Now, let’s get to the most important notes for this episode.

Damien Darhk

Darhk gave us a couple of surprises in the season premiere. First, the partnership with Lance is looking more one-sided than Lance initially thought. Second, and more importantly, Darhk displayed his mythical powers.

Oliver made a point in saying Darhk’s powers weren’t akin to meta-humans, like we see in The Flash, but was more akin to sorcery. We saw at least three “powers” Dahrk has, which looked to be the ability to suck the life out of people, telekinesis, and super-strength. We also got a glimpse as to how Darhk might maintain his powers:

Darhk’s mysticism will most definitely tie into Oliver’s flashbacks in one way or another this season, which is interesting considering Oliver is back on Lian Yu. However, I doubt he stays on Lian Yu for long. Although we do know he ends up back on the island for a considerable amount of time until he is rescued, as seen in the first episode of the series.

Constantine

Back in August, we got word that Constantine would be making his way to Star City. But what if that’s not the only location Constantine visits this season? If Oliver has encountered mysticism before coming back to Starling City in season one, it could mean we’ll be seeing Constantine in Oliver’s flashbacks as well.

This makes the flashbacks this season more exciting, considering the possibility we’ll be seeing Slade as well.

Speedy

Speedy Arrow 401

When Thea was resurrected using the Lazarus Pit last season, one of the warnings was that Thea’s soul would be lost in the process. We saw that Thea was overly aggressive when beating one of Darhk’s men this episode. It was enough to spook Oliver into asking Diggle if he had noticed Thea’s increased aggression. This may also play into Constantine coming back.

Hal Jordan

Those who paid close attention to one of Oliver’s flashbacks this episode will have noticed Hal Jordan standing in a bar where Oliver was meeting Amanda Waller.

This flashback is placed at around five years ago in show time. Six months ago, in show time, we saw The Flash visit an abandoned Ferris Air in an attempt to fly Flash’s villains to Lian Yu in the episode Rouge Air. All this evidence seems to suggest that the Green Lantern is around and exists in this universe!

Tombstone

This will certainly be the topic to much discussion for much of the season. While it’s easy to suggest Felicity may be the victim, it would be silly to settle on that theory. That tombstone can belong to anyone. What we definitely know is that someone close to Oliver will die six months from now, in show time.

Barry + Arrow 401

The death had such an impact that even Barry came out to give his condolences. What was also important here is that Oliver knew of Zoom, The Flash‘s big baddie this season. It would also seem that business with their respective villains, Zoom and Darhk, is also unresolved, meaning the death will take place during the season, rather than at the very end.

Stephen Amell of ‘Arrow’ Will Be at WWE Raw Next Week

Stephen Amell is coming (back) to WWE Raw.

For weeks Stephen Amell, star of DC and The CW’s Arrow and Stardust, a.k.a. Cody Rhodes, the son of the late Dusty Rhodes, have been teasing each other with a possible-ish match at SummerSlam, scheduled for August 23rd in Brooklyn, New York. While it’s unlikely to happen due to the fact that regardless how phenomenally in-shape Stephen Amell may be, he isn’t a trained professional wrestler, surely something is going to happen. A really intense staredown, I bet.

We’ll know what happens when Stephen Amell shows up at Raw in Seattle next Monday.

Celebrities showing up to, ahem, “wrestle” has happened two million times before — David Arquette, Jay Leno, basically all of WWE Raw in 2009, hell this won’t even be Stephen Amell’s first time — but with how many safeguards even the WWE’s own roster must go through today I don’t think we’ll see a legitimate Arrow vs. Stardust match. He’ll probably be Neville’s Bobby Heenan, cheering him to make Stardust fail Seattle or some shit. Can’t risk a major TV star injuring himself and unable to shoot his show, can they?

Gonna go on a limb and say Raw might be a cross-promotional platform with some blessing from the suits for Amell to debut the new suit, since the WWE is using that particular image for this appearance.

CW Orders Flash/Arrow Spinoff Series ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’

CW has decided to give a full series order to the Arrow-Flash spinoff DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. This is exciting news since Flash and Arrow are firing on all cylinders. When it comes down to the comic adaptations to television, DC seems to be reigning supreme so far. With Supergirl being ordered into a season and iZombie picked up for a second season the executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti seem to do no wrong.

‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’  is set to star Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory, Heat Wave), Victor Garber (Martin Stein/Firestorm), Ciara Renee (Kendra Saunders, Hawkgirl), Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson) and Caity Lotz in an unidentified role, since her Arrow character, Sara Lance, unfortunatly died this season. Which sucks since I believe she is a more believable Black Canary than her sister.

Doug Jones Is Deathbolt On The CW’s ‘Arrow’!

Briefly: Hankering for more Doug Jones after rewatching the sizzle reel for Geekscape’s own Paul London: Hero of the Prophecy, in which Jones plays the terrible, evil wizard searching for the all powerful ‘Artifact’? Wait, you have seen Hero of the Prophecy, right?

Doug has just revealed that he’ll be returning to the DC Universe (he played the Thin Clown in 1992’s Batman Returns), this time portraying Deathbolt on The CW’s Arrow.

Name doesn’t ring a bell? Yeah, I couldn’t recall it either. The character first appeared back in 1983 (seven long years before I was born), and according to the DC Wikia, his “body functions as a living electromagnetic battery. He can absorb, channel, and redirect electricity for offensive attack.” In Arrow, the character will “be a metahuman with the ability to harness and weaponize plasma energy.”

We love ourselves some Doug Jones, and we can’t wait for this episode. Doug will appear in this season’s nineteenth episode, which is called ‘Broken Arrow’. Oooh, ominous.

Brandon Routh Lands Recurring Role On The CW’s ‘Arrow’

Briefly: Brandon Routh never got a second try at Superman, but that doesn’t mean he’s finished in the DC Universe.

The Superman Returns actor has just landed a 14-episode arc on The CW’s Arrow. He’ll play Atom, who can shrink himself down to subatomic size (I thought Arrow wasn’t going to have any super-powered characters, but this’ll be the second?).

The character will also act as a love interest for Felicity. Further details haven’t been revealed at this point, but I’m sure we’ll hear more as San Diego Comic-Con approaches.

‘Arrow’ Gets An Early Renewal

Briefly: This news can’t be surprising for anyone, but The CW has renewed their hit series Arrow for a third season.

While Arrow remains the most watched show on the network, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Reign, and The Originals also received early renewals.

No information on what’s to come has been revealed at this point (duh, we’re still in the middle of season two), but I’m sure we’ll be seeing even more sexy posters before the year is up. What do you hope to see next? Sound out below!

‘Arrow’ Premieres October 9th: Watch A New TV Spot!

Briefly: Following some sexy character posters released just last week, The CW has debuted a new TV spot for Arrow‘s upcoming season premiere.

Titled “Sharper”, the spot appears to offer some new footage from the season, and does a really good job of reminding me that I still need to finish season one.

No Shirts In Sight In New ‘Arrow’ Character Posters!

Briefly: Following the new trailer released earlier this month, The CW today debuted four new character posters for the upcoming season premiere of Arrow.

In pretty typical Arrow fashion, each and every one of the new posters (featuring Stephen Amell, Colton Haynes, David Ramsey, and Manu Bennett) spotlights one of Starling City’s most beautiful men, completely naked from the waist up.

First Poster For Season 2 Of ‘Arrow’ Debuts Online

Briefly: The CW has just revealed the first poster for the anticipated second season of Arrow.

The poster is pretty standard faire, featuring a somber (or bored) looking, shirt-clad Amell (what’s up with that?), and the show’s supporting cast in the background.

All jokes aside, I’m really looking forward to Arrow‘s second season. More DC characters are set to debut during its duration, including Black Canary and, of course, The Flash! Take a look at the poster below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to Arrow. Season two premieres on October 9th!

SDCC 2013: Watch The First Trailer For ‘Arrow’ Season 2!

Briefly: During this year’s fantastic San Diego Comic-Con, The CW revealed a cool first trailer for the highly anticipated second season of Arrow. Apparently it reveals some pretty heavy spoilers for the show’s first season, so seeing as I still haven’t caught up, I haven’t actually watched the preview myself.

I’m hearing that great things are in store for the show’s second season, so I better get caught up quickly! Arrow returns on October 9th!

Could Ted Kord Be Making An Appearance On The CW’s ‘Arrow’?

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim has teased what could be the biggest cameo/easter egg yet to appear on The CW’s hit series Arrow.  Just a short while ago Guggenheim tweeted the following:

 

We don’t know for sure that Ted Kord himself will be making an appearance in the show or if we will just be seeing Kord Industries appear but there’s a number of exciting possibilities. Could The Blue Beetle work in the world of Arrow? Definitely. We’re going to have to wait and see if he does appear though when the series returns on the 24th.

WonderCon 2013: ‘Arrow’ Sizzle Reel Teases What’s To Come

Extended Preview Released For ‘Arrow’ Season One Ep. 18 “Salvation”

After a small break, The CW’s Arrow is back. After having to deal with the return of The Huntress, another vigilante is making his way to Starling City next week and Oliver will have to deal with “The Savior”

 

OLIVER MUST SAVE ROY HARPER FROM A MURDERER — An angry resident of The Glades who calls himself “The Savior” (guest star Christopher Redman) embarks on a kidnapping and killing spree to punish those he believes have wronged the residents of his neighborhood. To make things worse, he broadcasts these murders online and claims he was inspired by Arrow’s (Stephen Amell) vigilantism. Oliver is horrified by this statement and vows to stop “The Savior,” but his manhunt in intensified after Thea (Willa Holland) comes to him in tears and tells him Roy (guest star Colton Haynes) has been kidnapped. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is surprised when her father (Paul Blackthorne) starts to believe her mother’s (guest star Alex Kingston) claim that Sara is still alive. Meanwhile, Malcom (John Barrowman) tells Moira (Susanna Thompson) to find the person responsible for his attempted murder. David Ramsey and Colin Donnell also star. Nick Copus directed the episode written by Drew Z. Greenberg & Wendy Mericle (#118).

Manu Bennett’s “Slade Wilson” Promoted To Series Regular On The CW’s ‘Arrow’

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that actor Manu Bennett has been promoted to series regular by the CW for the second season of Arrow. In the series the actor plays the role of Slade Wilson, who so far has been portrayed as an ally of Oliver Queen during the flashback’s to his time on the island. But, does that mean things are going to continue on that path? Only time will tell if we will see Wilson eventually become Deathstroke in the series and we’ve got another season of Slade to see just what happens.

Extended Preview Released For ‘Arrow’ Season One Ep. 17 “The Huntress Returns”

Did last night’s explosive episode of Arrow leaving you wanting more? Well, you’re going to have to wait a few weeks until the next episode hits the air. On March 20th, Helena Bertenelli is making her return to Starling City and this is anything but good news for Oliver Queen.

 

 

EDM MEGASTAR STEVE AOKI OPENS OLIVER’S NEW NIGHTCLUB — With his nightclub set to open and a new romance brewing with McKenna (guest star Janina Gavankar), Oliver (Stephen Amell) is as happy as he’s been since returning to Starling City. But when Oliver’s ex, The Huntress (guest star Jessica De Gouw), suddenly returns to town, she threatens to destroy everything and everyone he cares about. Meanwhile, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and her father (Paul Blackthorne) struggle with the return of Dinah Lance (guest star Alex Kingston) who claims she has proof Sara is still alive. Thea (Willa Holland) gets Roy Harper (guest star Colton Haynes) a job at Oliver’s club, but he’s not too inclined to stop his life of crime. Oliver and Tommy (Colin Donnell) are thrilled they were able to get Steve Aoki to play at the opening of their new nightclub, Verdant. David Ramsey and Susanna Thompson also star. Guy Bee directed the episode written by Jake Coburn & Lana Cho (117).

Extended Preview Released For ‘Arrow’ Season One Ep. 16 “Dead To Rights”

Well, it looks like there’s one hell of an episode of Arrow coming next week. First off, it’s written by DC Comics writer Geoff Johns. Second, you’ve got Deadshot and China White returning to take out Merlyn aka The Dark Archer. Let’s just say that we can’t wait to see this one.

 

 

DEADSHOT RETURNS — Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Diggle (David Ramsey) learn that Deadshot (guest star Michael Rowe) is still alive and his next target is Malcom (John Barrowman). Malcom invites Tommy (Colin Donnell) to attend a benefit honoring Malcom for his work with Starling City but Tommy refuses to attend. Oliver encourages his friend to mend his relationship with his father while he can. Meanwhile, Oliver struggles to balance his new relationship with McKenna [Janina Gavankar] and his duties as Arrow. Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne and Susanna Thompson also star. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Geoff Johns (##116).

The CW Releases Extended Mid-Season Trailer For ‘Arrow’

The CW has released a brand new extended look at what is in store for the rest of this season on the hit series Arrow. You have two choices, escape or die. Well, that or you could watch the video below.

 

 

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The CW’s ‘Arrow’ Officially Renewed For A Second Season

The CW’s hit DC Comics television adaptation Arrow (that most of us here at Geekscape love), which stars Stephen Amell as Green Oliver Queen, has been a success ever since it first premiered last October. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the network has chosen to pick up the series for a second season. Check out the full press release below.

The CW Network has given early pickups to three of its hit series for next season, including freshman hit ARROW, its top-rated drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. All three shows will return in Fall 2013.

 

“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit ARROW and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do ARROW, SUPERNATURAL, and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”

 

One of the true breakout hits of the season, ARROW posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3mil). Heading into its fifth season next fall, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES remains The CW’s highest rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES also continues to be one of the network’s top performing shows digitally and socially; in fact, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES recently topped Trendrr’s list as network TV’s #1 social program for the week of January 21–27.

 

The Winchester brothers of SUPERNATURAL will continue to fight the forces of evil for a ninth season. Since being paired with ARROW on Wednesday this year, SUPERNATURAL has seen a dramatic uptick in its ratings from last season, rising 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

 

Chin Han Joins The Cast Of The CW’s ‘Arrow’

Actor Chin Han (The Dark Knight) will be be making the move from Gotham City to Starling City for a recurring role in The CW’s Arrow. The actor will play the role of Frank Chen, who is described as “a successful businessman and old friend of the Queen family.”

The character is also a member of ‘The Undertaking’, the mysterious group led by Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman). There’s not much more known about the character, but it seems like we can expect him to cause some trouble for the Queen family.

Check out an extended preview for next week’s episode of Arrow. The episode features David Anders (Once Upon A Time, Heroes) as Cyrus Vanch, the series first original villain! Anders was great as a villain on Heroes and we can’t wait to see what he brings to Starling City next week. Well, that and the addition of Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. It’s going to be a long week waiting for this one.

New ‘Arrow’ Promo Photos Released For “Vertigo”

In two weeks Seth Gabel (Fringe) is coming to the The CW’s Arrow  as DC Comics villain Count Vertigo. Word is that Vetigo will be “Oliver’s deadliest adversary to date… He will be truly scary and nightmarish.”  That’s good news, bad news is that we have to wait two weeks to see this episode.

SETH GABEL (“FRINGE”) GUEST STARS WHILE THEA FACES PRISON TIME — Thea (Willa Holland) is in trouble with the police after she gets caught using a drug called “Vertigo.” Oliver (Stephen Amell) thinks the only way to keep her out of jail is to find the dealer, a man who goes by the name of “The Count” (guest star Seth Gabel). Oliver turns to McKenna Hall (guest star Janina Gavankar), an old flame and current Vice cop, for help. Meanwhile, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) steps in to defend Thea, and Felicity (guest star Emily Bett Rickards) gives Oliver some disturbing news about Moira (Susanna Thompson).
