Briefly: Nope. This still doesn’t look anything like the Archie that I grew up with, though I’m still oddly intrigued by the premise of this series.

CW today debuted another short look at next month’s Riverdale premiere, featuring plenty of new footage that adds to the series’ already dark tone.

As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same… Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — not follow in his dad’s footsteps—despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves – which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice (Mädchen Amick) aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)… Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows…

Briefly: I’ve been excited for the idea of Riverdale since it was first announced. Today, The CW debuted the very first teaser for the midseason drama, which is set to premiere on January 26th… and while the teaser looks very CW-like, it doesn’t look all that Archie-like.

The series looks interesting enough, and based on the official synopsis (below) sounds like a fun, popcorn murder mystery, but after thoroughly enjoying Mark Waid and Fiona Staples’ recent Archie series, I can’t help but want more from this.

Then again, I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Take a look at the teaser below, read the synopsis, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: We got our first peek at Supergirl‘s Superman late last month, and The CW today debuted a slick new poster for the series’ anticipated return, reminding us that The CW has a new hero, and that Supergirl has a new home.

Supergirl hits The CW on Monday, October 10th, and we cannot wait to see what comes next for Kara and company!

Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think!

supergirl

Briefly: We’re still a few months away from Supergirl‘s anticipated second season premiere (on it’s new home on The CW), and today the network debuted our very first look at Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.

We still have no idea just how Superman will incorporate into the series, or how much he’ll be hanging around (and limiting our time with Kara), but in any case, we cannot wait for this one to come back to television.

Take a look at the first-look image below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to Supergirl‘s return.

Briefly: It looks like the Stephen Amell / Cody Rhodes feud is not quite finished yet, which I certainly wouldn’t have expected based on the fact that Rhodes left WWE back in May.

Amell himself had multiple RAW appearances throughout last year, and faced Rhodes’ Stardust character in a tag-team match during WWE’s Summerslam Pay-Per View last August.

Both Amell and Rhodes appeared at the “Wrestling Rivals” panel at Heroes & Villains FanFest in Secaucus, N.J. During the event, Amell let loose that Rhodes would appear in the third episode of Arrow‘s upcoming fifth season.

No information was revealed about Rhodes’ role, but Rhodes teased that “You can probably expect Stephen and I to get into another fight.”

We can’t freaking wait. The rivalry has been hilarious thus far, and as disappointed as I was when Rhodes left WWE in May (because I’m a huge fan and would love to see him in the ring as much as possible), I’m certainly glad that Rhodes appears to be making his rounds.

Are you looking forward to Arrow‘s fifth season? What did you think of last year’s offering? Be sure to sound out in the comments below!

Briefly: As disappointed as I am that iZombie won’t make its third season debut until the 2017 midseason, The CW has just revealed it’s Fall season premiere dates, and it looks like we’re set to have a phenomenal Fall in front of our television sets.

Of course, Supergirl has made the jump from CBS to The CW (and is now filming in my home city, which is pretty neat), and as such, a few other series have shifted around from their typical places.

What CW series are you most looking forward to this year? Sound out below!

Briefly: For some reason, we (I) were (was) pretty damned excited back in January when we learned that The CW had officially ordered a pilot titled Riverdale, a series based on classic comic character Archie and his pals, which will take place in the present-day and offer “a surprising and subversive take” on the characters and situations.

Today, the official Archie twitter account gave us our first look at KJ Apa’s Archie in the anticipated season, via a photo taken during one of the Vancouver production’s lunch breaks.

You can take a look at the photo below, and be sure to let us know what you think of this new-age take on Archie in the comments below!

Last week, we learned that Cole Sprouse (The Sweet Life of Zack and Cody) would portray Jughead Jones, and that Lili Reinhart (Surviving Jack) will play Betty Cooper, and today the CW has revealed three new cast members, including Archie himself.

Beverly Hills 90210‘s Luke Perry has been cast as Fred Andrews (Archie’s dad… duh), who is noted as “”easygoing” and the owner of a construction firm who is hoping his son, who worked for him all summer, will someday take over the family business.”

Fred

Next up, Ashleigh Murray has been cast as Josie McCoy, “a gorgeous, snooty and ambitious girl who is the lead singer for popular band Josie and the Pussycats. She has zero interest in recording any songs written by fellow teen Archie.”

Josie

Last, but not least, KJ Apa is our Archie, “an intense, conflicted teen, a boyish high school sophomore who got pumped up over the summer working construction and is now juggling the interest of several girls, as well as trying to balance his passion for writing and performing music — against the wishes of his father and his football coach.”

Apa

Excited? Yeah, me too.

The CW notes that “The one-hour drama will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions and has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers.”

The pilot will film in Vancouver this March, and again, as someone who never read Archie until the Mark Waid / Fiona Staples title launched last Fall, I have no idea why I’m so excited for it.

What do you hope to see in the series? Sound out below!

‘The Flash’ set to take a trip to National City.

According to a press release, ‘The Flash’s Grant Gustin will be guest starring on ‘Supergirl’.

There are no other details as of yet, including whether Melissa Benoist (Supergirl) will be returning the favor and make an appearance on ‘The Flash’. If She were to make an appearance on The CW, one would hope for a trifecta event that would also include The Arrow.

2016-02-03 14_34_08-Instagram

The Team-up comes as no surprise since they all share the same executive producers, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. The crossover has been long rumored and on everybody’s wish list basically since the Supergirl’ series was announced. The only other cross network character crossover that I could think of was Detective Munch who has randomly popped up in TV popular detective shows. Kudos for Berlanti and Kreisberg for getting all the networks to play nice and make this momentous crossover happen.

The Fastest Man Alive will team up with the Girl of Steel on March 28, when the Flash is slated to make an appearance on CBS’ Supergirl’.

‘Supergirl’ airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, ‘The Flash’ airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Amongst the six new pilots the CW has ordered, one is for the previously-announced Archie-based Riverdale show. According to the pitch, Riverdale will take place in the present-day and offer “a surprising and subversive take” on Archie’s cast of characters.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will write and be the executive producer on the premiere. He previously teased the show as “Archie meets Twin Peaks.” John Goldwater of Archie Comics and Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) are also EPs.

Hopefully, the show can deliver the same quality of story that Mark Waid and Fiona Staples are in the ongoing Archie comic book series. I don’t if I’ll watch the show but there’s no arguing that it’s a great time to be an Archie fan!

Riverdale

The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow, the spin-off series of Arrow and The Flash, will premiere later this month on January 21. The show’s junior varsity superheroes like The Atom, Firestorm, and White Canary team-up and travel back in time to prevent Vandal Savage from dominating the future. His name is Vandal Savage — who thought it was a good idea to get him in office?

Anyway, a new clip released by The CW shows off Caity Lotz’s White Canary — resurrected and renewed thanks to John Constantine — as she clears house in a biker bar during the Ford administration.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0MpkbAoFj0&feature=youtu.be

Neat! I always loved Lotz’s Canary and I’m actually happy she was brought back and not kept dead. Are you excited for Legends of Tomorrow like we are?

Briefly: Yeah, this is barely news, but as a huge fan of iZombie, someone that loved Veronica Mars, and an all-around Rob Thomas fanboy, this is very exciting.

EW has just revealed that Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell, will sort of be making an appearance on an iZombie episode next month.

The episode will air on January 26th, and is (hilariously) titled ’50 Shades of Grey Matter’. During the episode ‘things get interesting for Liv (Rose McIver) after she consumes the brain of a young librarian who was poisoned, and who also happened to secretly be an erotic fiction writer’

Where does Kristen Bell fit in? Well, she’s certainly no stranger to narration, based on her long roles on Veronica Mars and Gossip Girl, so she’ll fit right into iZombie with a voiceover role on the episode. In any case, it sounds like a hilarious 42 minutes, and a fantastic way to get Veronica Mars fans interested in the show.

And here I was still reeling over the series getting an extra six episodes this season…

Are you as excited as I am? Sound out below!

Briefly: Aw yiss.

The CW’s iZombie is far and away my favourite series currently running on television. Really, the series somehow takes two beyond-tired genres (zombie and crime drama) and somehow mashes them into an incredibly quirky, wondrously funny crime dramedy with a heart (and a brain) that only showrunner Rob Thomas and his amazing team could put together.

Somehow, I started the series late, only binge watching it when the first season hit Netflix back in September. Now, I’m watching it day and date with the rest of the word, and the very second that each episode is over I’m beyond hungry for more.

That said, it makes me incredibly happy, (and thankful, because Thanksgiving), that The CW has just added an extra six episodes to iZombie‘s second season run.

This brings season two’s total order up to a hefty 19 episodes, which should definitely keep me satisfied until the inevitable season three.

By the way, does anyone else have a crush on this entire cast? No? Just me? Okay.

Haven’t started the series yet? What the heck are you waiting for?

https://youtu.be/dycMoHn27ao

Briefly: Eric Francisco is sqee-ing with excitement right now.

We were all pretty upset back in May when NBC revealed that they would definitely, for sure, not be renewing the celebrated (yet somehow unpopular) series for a second season. Then, there were heavy rumours that the series would transition to another network, but eventually, contracts expired and the final nail was in the coffin.

Except for Matt Ryan’s Constantine, apparently. In May, it was revealed that Matt would guest star on an episode of Arrow this season. That episode is next week, and the first trailer for the episode has just appeared online.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know just how much you’d love Constantine to come back for good!

The CW has just released its first extended look at the upcoming season of Arrow, and, as expected, it looks awesome.

Ever since The Flash premiered last year, I’ve been a little down on Arrow. It wasn’t capturing that same comic book vibe that I enjoy, and just felt really  heavy on the drama. This trailer is giving me hope that its headed in the same direction and will bring a bit more of a lighthearted feel to the table.. Funny Felicity is the best Felicity!

I’m also digging all the new updated costumes, though Diggle’s helmet could have looked less X-men-ish.

The trailer showcases all the new faces joining this season of ‘Arrow’. You have Neal McDonough (Damian Dahrk), Echo Kellum (Mr. Terrific), Parker Young, Jeri Ryan, Matt Ryan (reprising his role as Constantine), Alexander Calvert (Anarky) and Elysia Rotaru.

Excited? Take a look at the trailer below.

‘Arrow’ Returns October 7, 2015

Briefly: iZombie is (finally) almost back on The CW, and the network has (finally) debuted the first show but sweet trailer for the upcoming episodes.

The footage looks just as light-hearted and fun as everything we saw in season one, and I cannot wait to see what’s in store for Liv and company next.

In the series, “A med student-turned-zombie takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.”

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. iZombie returns on October 6th!

https://youtu.be/i-2-7uRvMyM

Briefly: With less than two months until the anticipated season premiere, The CW has just debuted the official key art for the upcoming episodes of The Flash.

The image shows the character in his new suit, and it looks damned cool.

I’m way behind on The Flash, but I should probably get on catching up, shouldn’t I? Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think!

FlashS02

Violett Beane (SLASH)  has joined ‘The Flash’ season two as Jesse Quick, who will be joining Jay Garrick portrayed by Teddy Sears. Season two is shaping up to be action packed with the casting of two additional speedsters (not including Zoom). Could all the different speedsters signal the beginning of the Infinite Earths Crisis? It will be cool to see the explanations of the different speedsters.  One thing is for sure, we are going to see them race each other in a probably the most cliché way.

Jesse_Chambers_saving_Wally_West

Jesse Quick is “the alter-ego of Jesse Chambers, a heroine with super-speed powers. Chambers is the daughter of Golden Age heroes Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle; she would later go on to adopt her mother’s name. Her speed powers are accessed by speaking a special math formula, although she also has her mother’s abilities.”

‘The Flash’ zooms its way back to T.V. on Tuesday, October 6th on The CW.

The CW has released a new promo ad for the upcoming second season of ‘The Flash’

The preview for the first episode features a shot of former WWE wrestler Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland as the DC anti-hero Atom Smasher. He is looking pretty dope in that helmet. There is also a shot of a flash signal reminiscent of the Bat-Signal. Wonder whats that all about… It would seem kind’ve odd to get one for ‘The Flash’ but we’re up for anything!

download

There is also a promo shot of Barry in his updated Flash suit with the new lightening bolt insignia. It looks more protective than the regular red jumpsuit from season one so it will be cool to see it in action, especially since the Rogues seem to be stepped up this time around. Gorilla Grodd Round Two, anyone?

The upcoming second season for ‘The Flash’ premieres October 6th.

Stephen Amell is coming (back) to WWE Raw.

For weeks Stephen Amell, star of DC and The CW’s Arrow and Stardust, a.k.a. Cody Rhodes, the son of the late Dusty Rhodes, have been teasing each other with a possible-ish match at SummerSlam, scheduled for August 23rd in Brooklyn, New York. While it’s unlikely to happen due to the fact that regardless how phenomenally in-shape Stephen Amell may be, he isn’t a trained professional wrestler, surely something is going to happen. A really intense staredown, I bet.

We’ll know what happens when Stephen Amell shows up at Raw in Seattle next Monday.

https://twitter.com/amellywood/status/628382428344778757

Celebrities showing up to, ahem, “wrestle” has happened two million times before — David Arquette, Jay Leno, basically all of WWE Raw in 2009, hell this won’t even be Stephen Amell’s first time — but with how many safeguards even the WWE’s own roster must go through today I don’t think we’ll see a legitimate Arrow vs. Stardust match. He’ll probably be Neville’s Bobby Heenan, cheering him to make Stardust fail Seattle or some shit. Can’t risk a major TV star injuring himself and unable to shoot his show, can they?

Gonna go on a limb and say Raw might be a cross-promotional platform with some blessing from the suits for Amell to debut the new suit, since the WWE is using that particular image for this appearance.

Baron

British actor Jimmy Akingbola has joined Arrow Season 4 in the role of Baron Reiter, who is better know as Baron Blitzkrieg in DC Comics. The Baron is the head of the Shadowspire criminal organization, which will be the main focus of the ‘Arrow’ flashbacks, as they attempt to recruit a post-Hong Kong Oliver.

Already for Season 4 , Arrow has cast Neal McDonough (Agent Carter) as Damien Darhk, Echo Kellum (as tech whiz Mr. Terrific) and Alexander Calvert (as the villain Anarky).

Arrow season four premieres Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. on the CW.

Casting news just keeps rolling in!

After the announcement of a slew of new characters coming to Arrow and The Flash when they return this fall, The CW announced that Central City’s speedster is getting one more meta human to face off with. Only this one is Rated R.

Retired WWE Superstar, Adam “Edge” Copeland, has been revealed to play Atom Smasher. As a former hero who developed dark tendencies after his mother was killed, it’s unclear as to whether or not Copeland will be a tortured former hero, or a straight up bad guy for Barry and his friends to take down and illegally imprison. What is clear from CW’s comments to Comicbook.com is that Atom Smasher will be a force to be reckoned with.

“One of the most powerful enemies we encounter this season, Atom Smasher has come to Central City to kill The Flash.  His incredible strength and ability to grow to enormous size makes him more than a match for Flash and the entire S.T.A.R. Labs team will have to come together to find a way to defeat him.”

As a huge wrestling fan, it’s great to see Edge’s acting career gaining steam post retirement. With Haven and now Flash as part of his resume, it’ll be exciting to see what direction he takes the character in when he debuts.

The Flash returns for its second season on October 6th.

Arrow has found its Mr. Terrific. And he’ll be gay. Actor Echo Kellum from Ben & Kate will be portraying him on the upcoming 4th season.

Newsarama also has a full breakdown of the Arrow panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which I unfortunately couldn’t attend because there are so many other damn things happening that weekend to keep track. But one outstanding detail stands out about this upcoming season beyond Ollie’s new threads (Which I think looks great!), and Thea’s, and Malcolm Merlyn’s, and Diggle’s, and… I think that’s it.

Geoff Johns then hit upon the recent casting of Neal McDonough as Damien Darhk for the fourth season, but said there’s “another” villain coming after Darhk.

“There’s a lot of characters coming up that people won’t really guess, that will appear soon.”

Co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim cuts straight to it, saying that both Anarky and Mister Terrific would debut in Arrow‘s fourth season.

“[Mister Terrific’s] got to work with Felicity. Our version of Mister Terrific also happens to be gay,” Berlanti revealed.

I honestly don’t know much about the Mister. Terrific character, which shows just how deep into the DC lore that Arrow is digging. Who needs Batman when there are other superheroes to make household names?

Is being gay a component of the Mister Terrific character? I honestly don’t know, but regardless I think it’s a great thing to do. So long as the portrayal doesn’t boogeyman his sexual preference and instead makes him a complex character, then this is what superhero/genre TV needs. I can’t wait!

We’ve still got loads of San Diego Comic-Con stuff cooking in the Geekscape kitchen, but there’s one hot news bit we want to share with you: Could John Constantine show up in Arrow? It’s possible!

At Comic-Con this weekend, Arrow executive producers that some “political” brouhaha and actor Matt Ryan’s schedule are in conflict, but otherwise they’re working and “hopeful” they can welcome the chain-smoking bastard into Starling City.

From IGN:

Yeah, we really want to do it. It’s something we’ve been talking to DC about and it’s just a question of some political things, but also the actor’s schedule. We’re trying to work it out, but we don’t know 100 percent if it’s going to happen. … But we’re really optimistic and we would love to have him

Matt Ryan just got a gig on Broadway with A-listers Keira Knightley and Judith Light. So if Constantine were to show up, it’s likely not going to happen this upcoming season of the show, but keep your fingers crossed Hellblazers. I for one would love to see Constantine continue his adventures on Arrow. And the uber-optimist in me sees that as a “backdoor pilot” of sorts for a Constantine revival. Yeah, my head is in the clouds, but hey — stranger things have happened.

Would you be down for Constantine staring down the Arrow? Let us know!

If you thought The Flash season 1 was huge, season 2 is growing even bigger.

At Comic Con, it was confirmed that Jay Garrick, Patty Spivot, Wally West and Professor Zoom will all appear in the next season of The CW’s super hero series, further exploring the multiverse elements that were introduced in May’s finale.

Teased in the final moments of the season ender thanks to his helmet flying through Reverse Flash’s escape route into the future, Jay Garrick is typically known as the original Flash in the comics. Played by Teddy Sears, Jay will join the cast alongside Shantel Vansanten as Patty, Joe West’s new partner on the force. With casting for Wally and Professor Zoom yet to be announced, it’s clear that the inclusion of both characters have the potential to shake up the CW Flash universe considering their roles in the source material. Oh, and if you were expecting Reverse Flash to take up the mantel of Zoom, it’s been confirmed that this version will be separate from Tom Cavanagh’s expertly played villain from the first season, (although the actor will return in some capacity.)

In what ways do you think the expanded cast will affect the dynamic of the show? Will Barry and Patty serve as the Iris and Eddie of this season? What did Caitlyn mean about not coming back at the end of the sizzle reel? And considering Wally’s last name, what relation will he have to the West family? Our impatient minds will learn soon enough, when The Flash returns on October 6th.

At San Diego Comic Con, the first trailer for the upcoming animated series, Vixen, was debuted. Taking place in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash, the clip below shows Mari Jiwe McCabe beating down the bad guys, (as well as our beloved heroes,) using her unique ability to channel the abilities of the animal kingdom.

Releasing as an exclusive on The CW’s digital only animation block, CW Seed, Vixen will debut on August 25th as a six part mini series. Following the origins and growth of the character as she contends with potential friends and foes alike, fans like myself are speculating how, (or if,) this series will eventually lead to her full integration into the live action shows. With characters like Oliver Queen, Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon making appearences in the brief reveal, all signs point to this being a no brainer.

From the trailer alone, a few things are clear to me. One, I really wish this could have been live action. Two, I’m pretty sure it’s not because the special effects budget would be blown in a few episodes. Three, Cisco’s oggling of every female he comes across is starting to get a little desperate. And lastly, who needs super speed or the ability to shoot arrows really well when you can channel an elephant!? Can you tell I’m excited?

With the voice talent of Megalyn Echikunwoke as Vixen, and Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, and Carlos Valdes reprising their respective roles, it won’t be long until we find out how this storyline will play out. Until then, we’ll have wait a little while longer for Vixen, Legends Of Tomorrow, and the rest of the CW DC shows to hit our screens through the fall and beyond.

Who else is excited for the latest addition to the Arrow universe? Tell us all about it in the comments!

The CW has released a trailer for their The Flash/Arrow spinoff, Legends of Tomorrow.

The trailer introduces (and reintroduces) a long list of characters: Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), White Canary (Caity Lotz), the Atom (Brandon Routh), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), and Professor Martin Stein (one-half of Firestorm)! Arthur Darvill, of Doctor Who fame, stars as the time-traveling Rip Hunter. Arrow and the Flash make an appearance as well.
