Obviously, spoilers for “King Shark” from The Flash are discussed below.

In an unexpected move, the CW’s wildly great The Flash unveiled the identity of Zoom in “King Shark,” just a week after the game-changing “Escape from Earth-2.” As many fans predicted, Zoom is Jay Garrick — or some form of him. But as Entertainment Weekly confirms in an interview with executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, Zoom is actually Hunter Zolomon, the Earth-1 doppelgänger of Jay Garrick. Is this the right move for The Flash?

As much as I hated the Hunter Zolomon theory — honestly, yeah. It was absolutely brilliant.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN-Ru9d4vxQ

I admit, I’m kind of furious The Flash, which I strongly believe is one of the best shows across all of TV and we should be so lucky to witness, went with one of the popular theories that I flat out wrote off. I thought there’d be no way the writers would let Hunter Zolomon, an unassuming man whose only relation to the characters is that he is Garrick’s Earth-1 version, be Zoom. And yet, they made him Zoom.

Yes, I do know Hunter Zolomon is one of the Reverse-Flashes in the comics, so he would obviously be Zoom. But The Flash and any TV or movie adaptation aren’t beholden to comic book mythology on a leash. The unassuming method in which Zolomon was introduced was very unconventional, and to make him the season’s major villain would have been a huge misstep if The Flash writers weren’t careful. (Thankfully, they were.)

“Zoom … is Hunter Zolomon, a.k.a Jay Garrick,” Kreisberg told EW. The logistics of how that guy sitting in the bench in that one episode earlier this season is actually the evil Zoom, who’s stalked Barry and S.T.A.R. Labs all season long, will continue to befuddle until the show gives us answers in due time. “How all of that plays out and what’s actually happening, we’ll leave for after the break,” Kreisberg said, presumably laughing while stroking a cat because everyone in this show is CRUEL and EVIL.

But while I’m kicking myself for missing the mark, I thought I would hate The Flash for choosing what I thought would be the worst option. But now that I’m thinking about it, it’s damn ingenious. Yeah, why not let the unassuming guy in the park be the ultimate, strongest villain on The Flash? If Zolomon “bumped” into Caitlyn or Cisco or anybody and had him speak even one line of dialogue, all bets would have been off that he’s Zoom. Nothing would be worth speculating or engaging. The The Flash subreddit wouldn’t have been so #lit with theories, speculation, or just plain fun and instead everyone would hate each other like they do on the Arrow subreddit.

I applaud The Flash for creating a worthy mystery whose answer only brings up more, exciting questions. Who is the man in the iron mask? (My answer, probably the real Jay Garrick.) How did Zoom/Hunter hide his Speed Force? (My answer, the Velocity-9 masked his speed to resemble Flash’s — it’d be hard if you’re a speedster and you’re burning blue lightning and not yellow.) Whose body was the one Zoom/Hunter Zolomon killed? (My answer… I have none. I can’t think of anything.)

I’m impressed that The Flash took one of the worst theories I ever saw, went with it, and still managed to convince me it’s great storytelling. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it. And I’ve definitely never seen anything quite like The Flash.

The CW has released a new promo ad for the upcoming second season of ‘The Flash’

The preview for the first episode features a shot of former WWE wrestler Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland as the DC anti-hero Atom Smasher. He is looking pretty dope in that helmet. There is also a shot of a flash signal reminiscent of the Bat-Signal. Wonder whats that all about… It would seem kind’ve odd to get one for ‘The Flash’ but we’re up for anything!

There is also a promo shot of Barry in his updated Flash suit with the new lightening bolt insignia. It looks more protective than the regular red jumpsuit from season one so it will be cool to see it in action, especially since the Rogues seem to be stepped up this time around. Gorilla Grodd Round Two, anyone?

The upcoming second season for ‘The Flash’ premieres October 6th.

Briefly: It won’t hit your TV sets until the end of the month (February 25th, to be exact), but The CW and Grant Gustin have just given us our first look at Brandon Routh and his The Atom costume.

First, the CW promo photo:

And here’s Gustin’s look at the empty costume on set.:

This is today. But you’ll have to wait a while… #TheFlash #Atom

Now, I’m way behind on Arrow, and have done a pretty stand-up job at avoiding spoilers up to this point. In any case, are you looking forward to seeing Routh in costume? What have you thought of the season so far? Sound out below!

Briefly: Looks like The CW has another 90’s throwback planned for The Flash, and another original series cast member will reprise his villainous role.

It’s Mark Hamill, and he’s playing The Trickster. The CW lists the character’s bio as:

“Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90’s ‘Flash’ series.  In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist  con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps.   The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original ‘Flash’ on the CBS version.”

The CW has been doing a pretty stellar job with The Flash so far, and it’s especially cool to see all the nods and recastings that they’ve been doing in homage to the original series.

Series’ executive producer Andrew Kreisberg notes that “Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash.  Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes!  We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!”

Are you down for the role? Excited to see what sort of shape Hamill’s gotten himself into for his role in Star Wars: Episode VII? Sound out below!

Briefly: We’re just over a month away from the highly anticipated premiere of CW’s The Flash (though you’ve probably already seen the pilot), and today the network debuted a stylish new poster for the intriguing show.

After a particle accelerator causes a freak storm, CSI Investigator Barry Allen is struck by lightning and falls into a coma. Months later he awakens with the power of super speed, granting him the ability to move through Central City like an unseen guardian angel. Though initially excited by his newfound powers, Barry is shocked to discover he is not the only “meta-human” who was created in the wake of the accelerator explosion — and not everyone is using their new powers for good. Barry partners with S.T.A.R. Labs and dedicates his life to protect the innocent. For now, only a few close friends and associates know that Barry is literally the fastest man alive, but it won’t be long before the world learns what Barry Allen has become…The Flash.

Take a look at the poster below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the show! The Flash premieres on October 7th!

Briefly: We’re just over a month away from the highly anticipated premiere of CW’s The Flash (though you’ve probably already seen the pilot), and following yesterday’s new poster, the network has debuted a cool new trailer for the intriguing show.

The trailer looks to consist of mostly pilot footage (making it far less exciting if you’ve already seen it), but it definitely does a pretty great job at garnering excitement for the show.

The image features Flash running down a street, and of course his path draws out the classic Flash lightning symbol. It’s simple, it’s cool, and I really can’t wait to see more.

Briefly: The cast of CW’s The Flash has just added another.

Robbie Amell, The Tomorrow People star and cousin of Arrow‘s Stephen Amell, has landed a recurring role on sister series The Flash.

He’ll play Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm, “a maintenance worker at S.T.A.R. Labs and Dr. Caitlin Snow’s fiancé who plays an integral part in the particle accelerator accident that transforms Barry Allen into The Flash.”

What do you think of the casting choice? Is there anyone else you’d rather see in the role? Have you already seen the pilot? Sound out below!

Briefly: A leaked pilot episode hasn’t stopped The CW from promoting the series premiere of The Flash.

Following an Iris / Barry relationship featurette from a few weeks back, the network has debuted a short new introduction to ‘Detective Pretty Boy’, who may be pretty but is definitely not faster than a bullet.

I’m really looking forward to the series (and I still really need to catch up on Arrow), but I really hope that The CW starts releasing more substantial content promoting the show. A 44 second video about an attractive dude side character doesn’t really get my blood boiling.

Take a look at the video below (if you haven’t seen the pilot of course) and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Big news for comic book fans on the TV front today.

First up, even though it hasn’t been performing as well as anticipated, it’s no surprise that the kinda-sucked-but-now-is-pretty-sweet Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for a second season over at ABC.

Next, an Agent Carter series has officially been ordered to series. Hayley Atwell will star, and here’s the first official description:

‘Marvel’s Agent Carter,’ starring ‘Captain America’’s Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

Inspired by the feature films ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ along with the short ‘Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.’ ‘Marvel’s Agent Carter’ stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter. Executive producers are Michele Fazekas & Tara Butters, Steve McFeely & Christopher Marcus, and Jeph Loeb.

On the CW front, along with renewing Arrow, the network has picked up The Flash for a full season, as well as an adaptation of Vertigo’s iZombie. Here’s the synopsis for iZombie:

“A med student-turned-zombie takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. Cast: Rose McIver (Liv).”

and The Flash (plus that shot of star Grant Gustin in costume… again):

Over at NBC, Constantine has been picked up for a full season. Look below for the shot of Matt Ryan as, well, John Constantine. The synopsis for this one has also been revealed.

Constantine

Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.

That’s a lot of news for one day. What are you excited for? What are you planning to skip? Be sure to let us know! We’ll be sure to fill you in on episode numbers and premiere dates as soon as they’re announced!

Briefly: A few weeks back, The CW showed gave us our first look at Grant Gustin in costume as The Flash. The first image was a close up of Gustin’s head, leaving us all to wonder what the body of the costume would look like.

Well, today we found out, and he still looks rad. The network has released the first image of his full costume, which you can take a look at below! Of course, a still won’t hold a candle to any in-motion footage, so we’ll have to see how things look once that’s released. As far as a still goes however, Gustin and his costume look great (Colleen Atwood, costume designer for Arrow, also designed this one).

Be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to this one!

Briefly: The CW has just released the first official image of Grant Gustin as Barry Allen / The Flash, and as skeptical as I was about Gustin’s casting (I disliked his Glee character immensely), he looks pretty bad-ass.

Briefly: Glee’s Grant Gustin is set to play Barry Allen, a.k.a The Flash, on The CW’s Arrow this season.

The Flash will appear in episodes eight, nine and 20 as a set-up for a spin-off series; episode 20 is expected to be a backdoor pilot. The Flash character will be introduced as the non-super powered Barry Allen, a forensic scientist visiting Sparrow City to investigate  a series of unexplained robberies.

Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andreew Kreisberg are on board for the spin-off, as are director David Nutter and DC Entertainment’s Geoff Jones (director/writer, respectively).

Barry Allen will gain super powers—and become The Flash—in what has been described as ‘extraordinary events in the world’ by Kreisberg. The spin-off is expected to take place in a different city entirely, and except for possible cross-over events, should not impact the main cast of Arrow.

Gustin, returning to the CW after a stint on Glee as a member of the all-male group The Warblers, told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m unbelievably excited. I’ve been a lifelong fan of DC Comics, so I can’t be more honored and can’t wait to get started.”
