Another month brings another round of Xbox’s Games with Gold. Last Month’s selection of games were very much overshadowed by PS  Plus and the looming release of the Nintendo Switch, but now they seem to have some pretty concrete releases. The two big stand outs are Assassins Creed: Revelations for Xbox 360 and One users, and one of the Xbox Ones first launch titles, RYSE: Son of Rome.  Check out the other games and their releases below and get excited. Which one are you planning on trying first?

For those of you that won’t be completely swallowed by the hype trains behind the Nintendo Switch and Horizon Zero Dawn, look no further than Xbox’s Games with Gold for March 2017.

While not the strongest line-up in the history of the service, there are still some interesting and fun games worth taking a look at. Xbox One users will be able to play the horror title Layers of Fear as well as the infamous team shooter Evolve. Xbox 360 users (also playable on Xbox One) will be able to get their hands on the extremely addicting Borderlands 2, and Popcap’s side scrolling shooter Heavy Weapon. Check out the trailer below to get the specific dates of each release, and tel us your favorite game from the selection in the comments below!

Yes, up until December 31st, all Xbox One users will be able to download the cult hit JRPG title Lost Odyssey via backwards compatibility. Created by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Lost Odyssey was praised as being a better Final Fantasy then whatever the actual Final Fantasy was doing at the time. What are your thoughts? Briefly: Can you believe that the Xbox brand turned 15 today?

Microsoft’s first console released when I was just 11 years old, and what a time its been. The original Xbox was actually the first platform that I played Half Life 2 on, I had some of my first four-player multiplayer experiences with Halo, and my friends all loved Fusion Frenzy even though I thought it stunk. I think I may even still have one of those giant early controllers in a box somewhere.

To help celebrate this momentous occasion, Microsoft has shared some incredible data marking just how much Xbox has grown over this period. Some of the numbers are pretty incredible:

– Number of players: 222,468,423
– Number of total gaming hours: 100,539,390,670
-Number of total multiplayer hours: 29,000,304,183
– Number of Achievements unlocked: 32,667,582,157
– Gamerscore racked up: 572,605,554,587
– Highest Gamerscore: 1,416,465
– Number of Xbox Live friendships made: 4,233,891,482

That highest Gamerscore though… Wow.

Naturally, there’s a hashtag to go with the celebration, and Microsoft would love it if you shared your favourite Xbox memories on social media using #15YearsOfXbox.

Here’s what else is going on, straight from Xbox Wire:

Team Xbox Gaming with the Community

What’s been your favourite Xbox game or memory over the last decade and a half? Sound out below!

Earlier this year, legendary video game website Gametrailers.com closed its doors.

With that, a lot of well known shows such as The Final Bosman, Huber Hype, and more were no longer. One of the most popular out of them was a show called Pop Fiction. Created by Michael Damiani, Pop Fiction centered around tackling very popular video game myths and putting them to the test. The show became incredibly popular and many were sad to see it go.

Now going 8 months strong, Easy Allies is the spiritual Successor to GT and features a ton of successor shows (Huber Syndrome instead of Huber Hype, and Easy Update instead of Mandatory Update.) This is no exception to Pop Fiction, as back in may we got its spiritual sequel, Game Sleuth. The first episode based off of the running man from Ocarina of Time.

The episode today though has nothing to do with Zelda. Instead, they examine the amazing Phenomenon of Bigfoot being in GTA V. Is it real? Is it fake? WHY DO I HAVE THE SUDDEN URGE TO BUY A COPY OF GTA V!?! Everything will be revealed in the video below. What are your thoughts on the video? What gaming myths do you hope they cover in the future. Tell us below in the comments!

Woah! This was pretty unexpected.

Thanks to the website Rare Thief, they somehow managed to get their hands on what seems to be the first 30 minutes of a GoldenEye remake for XBLA. It seems as though at one point in time that the game was legitimately in development, but was sadly scrapped halfway through development. If you’re interested in watching the gameplay, check out the video below. Also, if you’re interested in learning more about GoldenEye XBLA, Check out Rare Thief right here! What do you think about the port? Would you buy this if it still came out. Comment below!

Next month’s free selection of Xbox games via games with gold is looking to be another strong month.

After that, from August 16th to the 31st, users will be able to get their hands on one of  Ubisoft’s biggest cult games, Beyond Good and Evil HD.  What do you think about this months new selection? I like to imagine at some point, after creating hundreds of figures and characters, that the developers of Skylanders Imaginators came up with this year’s core mechanic because they were completely out of ideas when it came to new toys for Portal Masters to take control of. And honestly, with so much content released since the original game took off in 2011, who could blame them? But with the introduction of custom Skylanders, the game has opened up an opportunity to allow its fans both young and young at heart to let their imaginations take charge and help them create the perfect character. But how will this all work? We headed over to Activision’s theater room during E3 2016 and learned all we could about the Toys To Life pioneer’s next release.

Kaos is up to no good once again, deciding that it might be best to imitate the Portal Masters who have thwarted him so many times before. Taking control of a new set of evil Skylanders, these “Doomlanders” as they’re called, the previous roster might not be enough to stop them. That’s where the Portal Masters will take control and begin to create new characters that will take the fight to Kaos, but they’ll need some new toys if they want to have access to the full range of possibilities.

E3 2016 Skylanders Imaginators Screen 1

Held in Creation Crystals, one version of the toy will be released for every element, (that’s 10 for those keeping count). Once placed on the Portal of Power, the crystal will take us into a character creation screen, allowing us to customize just about every aspect of the character that we can imagine. From their name, height, width, face, hair, color, accessories and fighting style, Imaginators will even let you create their own catchphrase for them to triumphantly call out when summoned. If you want your Skylander to have a tail, you can do it. If you want them to have a fart aura that follows them everywhere they go for some reason, you can do that too. And when you finally have that perfect Imaginator, make sure to take a selfie and hang it in your hub world for everyone to see! But just because your character is created doesn’t mean that that’s where your input stops.

Throughout the adventure, full sets of gear can be discovered, which will join hats as clothing that will affect your character’s stats. By finding hidden treasure chests, completing mini games, (including one based off of the radio from Trap Team, and the return of Sky Stones), and defeating enemies, you’ll be able to discover a wide range of new options. Some of these include the gear that we mentioned, new voices, auras, and pretty much everything that was featured on the customization screen. Your Imaginator will always be a work in progress, letting you constantly tweak it as you discover more options.

E3 2016 Skylanders Imaginators Screen 2

This guy is just one of many possible creations.

Then again, your character can have all the cool outfits in the world, but it means nothing if they don’t know how to fight. That’s where the new Skylander Senseis come into play. Your Imaginator has ten Battle Classes to choose from, determining how they will do battle against Kaos’ forces. After choosing between being a Brawler, Bowslinger or Sorcerer to name a few classes, we’ll be able to give our creations unique fighting abilities across four classifications, (weapon, elemental, secret and Soul Gem types specifically). From there, selecting a Sensei that’s proficient in that particular fighting style will lead to your Imaginator unlocking new weapon abilities to use for the matching class. From familiar faces like the reformed Wolfgang to newcomers, Ember and In order to get you to buy more than one of each type, the more Senseis you have, the higher your Imaginator level cap becomes. In other words, they won’t be able to get all that strong without a team of masters to guide them. Aside from mentoring your creations, each Sensei knows their own abilities that promise to be the strongest that the series has seen thus far. From what we know so far, it’s looking like this new set of characters will be the toys to get for the game this year.

If you’re worried about what role your old toys will play, every character will once again be playable, with some of the tracks from Superchargers returning for a racing mode to use your vehicles in. Traps will give the same items for inserting them into the game that they did in last year’s game, while classic characters will also pull double duty as Storytellers, giving your cast new missions to complete. One thing about the series is that it has yet to leave any of our past investments in the dust, so it’s great to see that this trend is continuing.

With so many new features coming to Skylanders Imaginators, it’s shaping up to be one of the standout entries as we head into the game’s sixth year. Skylanders Superchargers blew us away, leaving us feeling like it was the best game the series had produced, so this year’s version will have some big shoes to fill. But with what we’ve seen so far, (like Crash Bandicoot making an appearance as a Brawler Sensei), on top of what we haven’t thanks to our possible characters being dictated by the limits of our own imaginations, we’re left with seemingly countless possibilities that might live up to the challenge.

Skylanders Imaginators will release for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii U on October 16.

What a wild ride it’s been for backers and fans of Mighty No 9. After over a year’s worth of delays, double dipping in the Kickstarter well, expressed disappointment in the perceived visual downgrade the game underwent, and a controversial trailer that seemingly insulted a portion of its fanbase, the game has finally been released. So I guess Comcept is in the clear, right?

Well… Not so much.

Reports coming from multiple users have stated that the Wii U version of what was considered the spiritual successor to Mega Man is having severe performance issues, with some users claiming that it would render their entire consoles permanently unusable. Others have said that the backer codes they received had their own set of problems, from receiving the wrong codes, to not receiving all of their DLC. As a backer, I can confirm that while I did get my PS4 code, I was also sent a Steam code seemingly by mistake. On that subject, some PC users are claiming that their codes aren’t working at all, while Xbox 360 backers will have to wait at least a few more days to get their hands on it, since it apparently didn’t pass certification. This delay is only expected to last for a few days, much like the Mac and Linux versions, which is better than what handheld gamers can expect, since the 3DS and Vita versions still don’t have a release date.

During times like this, it might be best to do what you can to fix the issues while keeping your community updated, all while laying low outside of these subjects. Unfortunately for Comcept, that’s not what happened during yesterday’s celebratory live stream, where Keiji Inafune, the mastermind behind the project, allegedly said the game was, “…better than nothing.” Since then, the Internet has gone crazy with the gaffe, with even the Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account chiming in on the controversy. However, some Japanese speakers have said that Inafune didn’t say this at all, and this portion of the quote was interjected by the translator. Here’s the video where the line was spoken, but the transcribed quote can be found below so you can decide for yourself.

For now, this is what you see and what you get for the Mighty No 9 world, but again, we can hope that if things go well, there will be sequels. Because I’ll tell you what, I’m not getting my 2D side scrolling fill, and at the end of the day, even if it’s not perfect, it’s better than nothing. At least that’s my opinion.

Whether or not it was actually said is unfortunately, irrelevant at this point, since most people will have made up their minds on the situation at this point. One way or the other, there’s no denying that this situation is the cherry on top of a tumultuous launch, serving as a warning for what NOT to do when crowdfunding a game. If it’s any consolation, Inafune has owned up to the issues following the game since it accumulated nearly $4 million worth of his fans’ good faith, showing that there is some regret with how poorly everything went down.

Reviews have been tepid so far, but I’m enjoying the little bit I’ve played quite a bit so far. Make sure to check back for our full review, which will be out real soon, and leave your thoughts regarding the project in the comments below!

Briefly: I’m really not sure how this one slipped past me, but as a huge fan of 2013’s open world zombie survival simulator, State of Decay, I’m damned excited for the sequel.

Microsoft debuted the first trailer for State of Decay 2 at this week’s E3 expo, and while the trailer reveals little in terms of actual details from the game, it clearly showcases just how important it’ll be to bring a few friends along for the ride.

Microsoft notes that “The next installment in the critically acclaimed “State of Decay” franchise immerses you in an all-new, multiplayer zombie survival fantasy. Build a lasting community, working with other players or solo to overcome challenges while exploring your own unique story in a world that remembers the choices you make.”

You can take a look at the trailer for the title below, and be sure to let us know what you think! State of Decay 2 will hit Xbox One and Windows 10 sometime in 2017!

Nearly every year since they took over, 2K has seemingly managed to secure wrestlers for their WWE video games that the company itself had trouble courting. This tradition continues with the reveal trailer for WWE 2K17, showing off Goldberg as this year’s pre-order bonus character.

Bringing the WCW superstar back in dramatic fashion, the trailers for the game over the years have been spectacles in themselves. Echoing the way Goldberg would be escorted to the ring by a group of officers, dozens of cops are shown to finally bring the monster who was billed as being 173-0 in his prime out of exile for his video game re-debut. But as the cards drive passed a Suplex City road sign, what could it mean for the game, or the stars themselves?

I never was a huge Goldberg fan growing up, but seeing him return in this fashion can’t help but get me excited as a wrestling fan. As mentioned, past games have brought in stars like The Ultimate Warrior, Sting and Brock Lesnar before they were ever in talks with WWE themselves, only to open up negotiations that would eventually lead to their real life return. Could we see Goldberg back in a WWE ring? Only time will tell, but 2K has set up a pattern when it comes to this kind of thing. Like the modern day philosopher, Justin Bieber, once said, never say never.

WWE 2K17 will launch on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One PS3 and Xbox 360 in October.

Skylanders fans are in for an interesting game this year.

Yesterday, Activision announced Skylanders Imaginators, A game centered around creating your own Skylander. The game launches October 16th and will be  bundled with the portal of power, the custom character portal, as well as 2 sensei figures. The game is targeting a release date of October 16th for Xbox 360, One, PS4, PS3, and Wii U. Do you like Skylanders? Are you excited for this year’s game? Let us know in the comments below!

After a year of delays and months of silence, we’re finally getting Mighty No. 9 on June 24th… Assuming you wanted it on consoles.

In an announcement to backers that echos our story from last week, the team behind the controversial Kickstarter funded action platformer that’s set to be a spiritual successor to the Mega Man series has gone gold, with a final release date of June 24th. Acknowledging the plethora of problems that have plagued the project for longer than any publisher would want to admit, Keiji Inafune, the father of Mega Man and project lead behind MN9, posted the following message to his backers and fans:

To all of our backers and fans of Mighty No. 9,

Firstly, I would like to say again how sincerely sorry we are for how long we have kept all of our fans waiting. We are finally able to deliver some long awaited news regarding Mighty No. 9. We have now confirmed the following release dates for Mighty No. 9: June 21st 2016 (North America & Asia) and June 24th 2016 (World Wide). We understand that as a result of the various delays we have disappointed and let down our fans, but we are happy to finally be able to deliver the game to everyone who brought us this far.

With the game having “gone gold” we are in the last final stages of being able to deliver it into your hands, be that via your favorite retail outlet, or via digital channels.

Therefore the release date we are announcing is set in stone and there will be no further delays for the game.

Portable versions for PlayStation® Vita and Nintendo 3DS ™ will follow at a later point.

It has been almost three years since the start of our Kickstarter campaign, which was only made possible through the support of our backers and fans around the world. This is a project where everyone’s passions were combined in order to create something very special, and we are looking forward to delivering the final product to everyone who was involved. There can be no stronger connection between game creators and game fans.

Now that the dust has settled, we will be delivering Mighty No. 9 to everyone next month. How long will it take you to clear the main story on NORMAL? How many people are going to be able to clear MANIAC mode? What is going to be the fastest record for the time attack mode? We are looking forward to seeing the community answer all of these questions for us! Make sure to let us know your feedback and thoughts on the game through our SNS channels as you play the game. Your voices are what made this game possible, and we want to continue hearing what you think so that it may influence our future endeavors. “

Unfortunately, gamers who wanted the portable version will still have to continue to wait. The call for community interaction at the end of his statement is comforting, but after delaying the game for so long for a bonus feature like Multiplayer, (a feature that was added to a single player game as a Stretch Goal and was largely seen as a cool bonus rather than a game defining mode,) the multiple supplemental Kickstarter campaigns despite raising far more than their initial goal, a huge visual overhaul compared to what was shown in the concept art, radio silence after the latest delay, and working on side projects like an anime and other games while this one was continuously put on hold, we’ll have to see if it’s enough to win back the faith of the community.

What say you, Geekscapist? Are you excited about the game finally releasing, or are you long over it?

While not the most stellar line-up (especially after this month gave us Sunset Overdrive and Saints Row IV) Xbox’s Games With Gold for May still has some notable titles you might want to check out.

Briefly: Having issues with Xbox Live currently?

You’re not the only one. Users have been reporting issues for several hours at this point, and while it’s not uncommon for online services like Xbox Live and PSN to go down, it’s not often that we see as amazing a reaction as Snoop Dogg himself just posted to Instagram.

Microsoft’s official note on the outage states: ‘Hey Xbox members, are you having trouble creating or joining your multiplayer sessions? Are you running into an issue with viewing notifications? We are aware of these issues and are working with our engineers to get this corrected ASAP! Thank you for your patience while we work. We’ll post another update when more information becomes available.’

Snoop, however, isn’t having any of it:

Message to xbox1 n ea server fix your shit or playstation here we come ??✨??

Based on Snoop’s reaction, Microsoft better get its s**t together, for all of our sakes.

Briefly: It’s about time.

Capcom officially revealed the upcoming HD Remaster of Resident Evil 0 back in June, and aside from a couple of trailers and some screenshots, the publisher has been fairly quiet about the redux up to this point.

Today, Capcom revealed the game’s release date, along with some of the oddball costumers coming for pre-order customers.

Being a survival horror fan who missed out Resident Evil up to this point (and also a gamer who thoroughly enjoyed the remaster of Resident Evil), I’m pretty excited to see where the series chronologically began.

The Resident Evil 0 HD remaster will hit Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC on January 19th. 2016, and you can bet your undead ass that we’re excited to play it.

You can take a look at the costumes trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’ll be giving Resident Evil 0 a download.

Longtime Geekscape friend Andrew Duvall comes on the Geekscape podcast to talk about his new project ‘Mystery Weekend Package‘! While he’s here, we try and get him to do some “script rewrites” and we talk the latest ‘Force Awakens’ trailer. Is Luke a bad guy? Also, is the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility backwards compatible enough? And is Kenny ready for Fallout 4? Plus! We talk about the new ‘Warcraft’ trailer and hooking up with someone with big teeth!
