Briefly: We can’t exactly file this one under ‘total surprise’, but it’s still a cool piece of news from Microsoft’s just-concluded E3 conference.

Yep. After making nearly 400 Xbox 360 titles backwards compatible with Xbox One, Microsoft has announced that original Xbox titles are next in line for the backwards compatibility treatment.

Details on the program itself are scarce as of now, but Xbox head Phil Spencer notes that “OG games will look better and play better across the Xbox One family,” while noting that fans can expect the first backwards compatible titles to be available later this year (with one of his favourites, Crimson Skies, being among the first few).

As someone who largely missed out on the first generation Microsoft console, this came as pretty exciting news to me. Which games would you like to see added to the list? What was the best part of the Microsoft presentation? Sound out below!

Just a little over a year ago Microsoft launched Xbox 360 backwards compatibility for Xbox One, and ever since have been slowly rolling out tons of titles onto the service.

Now  with 300 and more titles underneath their belt, they’re celebrating this achievement in the best possible way. FREE STUFF! Yes, up until December 31st, all Xbox One users will be able to download the cult hit JRPG title Lost Odyssey via backwards compatibility. Created by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Lost Odyssey was praised as being a better Final Fantasy then whatever the actual Final Fantasy was doing at the time. What are your thoughts? Are you excited to download and play Lost Odyssey again or for the first time? Tell us in the comments below!

Briefly: We’re now in the final third of 2016’s first month, and Microsoft has just revealed the latest Xbox 360 titles to be added to the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility list.

Nope, Alan Wake still isn’t available, but some stellar titles did make the list this month (like The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings). Here are all 10 games that are backwards compatible as of now.

-The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
-Sam & Max Save the World
-Aegis Wing
-Counter-Strike: GO
-Age of Booty
-Space Giraffe
-Soulcalibur
-Skullgirls
-Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad
-Small Arms

The company has also revealed a big change to the way that backwards compatible titles will become available. Previously, new titles were revealed once per month (as with the list above), but going forward they’re set to simply ‘release titles as they become available, rather than a set monthly launch date’.

Oh, and did I mention that until February 5th, you can get The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for free? Yep, you can head right here to download the acclaimed title.

Starting on November 12th, Xbox One owners will have the ability to play 100 Xbox 360 games on their console. This backwards compatibility feature is one of the facets of Microsoft’s “New Xbox Experience.” The free update will also allow Xbox One players to engage in multiplayer with friends on the Xbox 360.

As far as my E3 hype goes, the announcement that I was most excited for was the Xbox One receiving backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games! Of course, there had to be a catch, this time being that it would only apply to certain games. Promising over 100 titles by year’s end, the first 21 have been revealed as playable right now!

Consisting of mostly Rare games, (that were likely emulated already to prepare for the upcoming Rare Replay,) or games everyone should have, (does anyone not own Hexic HD?), reclaiming your downloaded games will be as simple as finding them on the store! For physical discs, the process is a little different. Once the disc is put into the console, your Xbone will recognize the title and allow you to download it from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Since disc reading won’t be possible, it’s safe to say that you’ll do well to upgrade your hard drive, (assuming you haven’t already after Halo: The MCC and AC: Unity ate up half your memory.) Players will even have the choice to switch to the old 360 interface when accessing their past titles! Whether or not online functionality will still work as intended through the new console is unknown, but considering Shadowrun, an online only shooter was listed in the teaser image, I’d say it’s a safe bet. We’ll be sure to update you as soon as more information is released.

The current list is as follows:

A Kingdom for Keflings

A World of Keflings

Alien Hominid HD

Banjo-Kazooie

Banjo-Tooie

BattleBlock Theater

Defense Grid

Geometry Wars Evolved

Hexic HD

Jetpac Refuelled

Kameo

Mass Effect

N+

Perfect Dark

Perfect Dark Zero

Small Arms

Super Meat Boy

Toy Soldiers

Toy Soldiers: Cold War

Viva Piñata

Viva Piñata: Trouble In Paradise

Zuma.

In the middle of the night, a 56 page report apparently coming from Microsoft and written in 2010, was leaked onto the internet. It details their next console dubbed the Xbox 720, in pretty good detail. The time of writing this the document has been removed from the server. Lets take a look at what was inside.

The most intriguing part of the release was that the 720 will feature a Blu Ray disk drive and full 1080P output, with a “Low Powered Always On Mode” it also will have the ability to act as a DVR. If a Blu Ray is in fact standard issue, then we can definitely expect some BIG sized games.  Lets take a look at the raw specs from the document.

The compelling info lies with the backwards compatibility. With three PowerPC cores at 3.4Ghz used to mimic the 360 architecture. This lets all previous games play natively without emulation.

The 720 doesn’t seem to be skimping on power. With up to 8 ARM CPU cores set at 2Ghz, we can expect powerful content of all kinds. It is kind of required for constant 1080P output though.

The big peripherals that are included in this report are what make me believe this report to legitimate. The console will come with Kinect V2 bundled. It has the ability to track 4 players and new “Kinect Props”. Kinect Props are just that, props you use when playing with the kinect. If we look at one of the illustrations, we can clearly see someone using a baseball bat with their Kinect.

That has disaster written all over it. When the WiiMote was flying off wrists and busting TVs, it was called a terror to living rooms. Add 1:1 scale BATS or GOLF CLUBS or whatever to the equation and you have a recipe for destroyed TVs.

Then we have these Kinect Glasses called Project Fortaleza. That sounds like a type of Ferrari. These are Microsoft’s answer to Google Glasses. These will offer 3D viewing of games or movies. The report mentions 4G, so they could be used outside the 720 system.

Top that all off with a Holiday 2013 release at $299, you can expect that the Xbox 720 to be the first foray into the next generation of game consoles.
