‘Deadpool 2’ is out! But now we’ve got a lot of questions! Like who is Cable? Who is Domino? They did WHAT in the first 15 minutes? How does Deadpool 2 fit with the X-Men films? How close is Cable’s origin story to the one in the comics? How does Deadpool 2 movie set up an X-Force film? What characters would be in an X-Force movie? Does this change the X-Men timeline? Should you bring your kids to see Deadpool 2? Is Deadpool 2 as funny as the first movie? And more! So obviously we have to get Ian Kerner to join us on this ‘Deadpool 2 Special’ to Wade Wilson through all the questions with us! Oh yeah! And MAJOR SPOILER WARNING! ENJOY!

After surprising critical and box office adoration transformed Tim Miller’s risky and monumentally self-aware anti-hero comedy, Deadpool, into a record-breaking phenomenon, we all knew that the film’s immediately announced sequel would aim to be bigger, bolder and more outrageous than the original. And despite a changing of the guard, with Miller rumored to be stepping aside in favor of John Wick and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch because of a power struggle with leading star Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2 continues to push the envelope with more of the same vulgar, violent and over-the-top antics.

After opening with some wise cracks about Wolverine, the film immediately turns to Wade Wilson’s (Reynolds) recent selfish behavior and how it leads to an unfathomable tragedy. But rather than self-loathing like his natural instincts suggest, Wade attempts to find deeper meaning in things and finally begins to try and do what’s right. However, as Deadpool quickly finds out, old habits are hard to break when he crosses paths with a mercenary from the future named Cable (Josh Brolin) who refuses to let Wade get in the way of his mission.

Deadpool 2 doubles down with its abrasive, juvenile humor and blood-filled violence. And while the overall effect doesn’t quite grab you like its predecessor, this sequel still aptly entertains and smoothly keeps the laughs coming in impressive style. Furthermore, as if heavier doses of this winning formula aren’t enough to put you all in, Deadpool 2 throws some unexpected curveballs that are a refreshing surprise. Yet, while a whole new collection of characters, both good and bad, help occupy the screen time, this is once again Ryan Reynolds’ spotlight and he cradles the opportunity to near perfection. Wade Wilson’s evolution marks a stark contrast to the last film, one that’s a welcome change and navigates the franchise down a clearer more resolute path. But as his character so conveniently points out more than once in the film, there are spells of lazy writing that linger throughout, and even a wide-growing hokiness that looms over Wade’s modest character transformation. However, the action is on point, the characters are wildly entertaining, and the story shifts down an unpredictable road, all of which make Deadpool 2 another successful superhero tale with an immensely bright future

Read day three here.

I have no idea what time I passed out at last night (or this morning, more likely), but I got up today feeling substantially more awake and energized than I did yesterday. It must have been the litres (gallons? US gallons? Why can’t America be the same as anyone else) of water that I’d consumed as an attempt to feel better.

I did wake up today with a bit of a sunburn on my neck, and at this moment I realized that I haven’t even thought about putting on sunscreen once so far this week. My fiancé packed it for me and everything, it just slipped my mind until it was too late. Now, typically I avoid sunscreen anyways because it feels gross and I don’t like doing things that feel gross, but I swear this isn’t one of those times. I told my fiancé that I had forgotten all about it, and she called bullshit no matter how I tried to save it.

I began to wander around the Gaslamp district in order to find some breakfast. I planned to hit up the Hall of Justice Subway that Jonathan and I ate at a couple of days back, but he texted me to let me know that they were closed on weekends. As I walked by dark restaurant after dark restaurant, I realized that apparently so was everywhere else (or they didn’t open for several more hours). I even went back to the Horton Plaza outdoor mall, as I assumed (incorrectly) that something in the food court would be open at this time. Heading here did, however, help me make up my mind about the Nikki Bella signing, which had a substantially longer line than the Sami Zayn event from days prior, even though you had to buy a specific package to take part in this one.

Somehow, a burger place called All American Burger was the first open locale that I came across, and thankfully the restaurant was nearly empty, meaning that I could walk in without waiting in any lines. Amazing. Do people not want burgers for breakfast? Or is everyone just in the Hall H line so they can see the Marvel reveals later today?

The burger was pretty tasty,  though also pretty expensive (especially factoring in Canada’s worthless dollar), and the coffee was much appreciated.

Tasty, but not $30 tasty.

The show floor was open following breakfast, and I waded through what felt like the most crowded show floor ever (or at least of this week) to make my way back to the booth. Jon was here, and we took the time to record a segment for the post-SDCC episode of the flagship Geekscape podcast. We chatted about Puyo Puyo, our experiences thus far, Sonic Mania, and more, and as we mentioned video games this once again makes Geekscape the number one video game podcast on the network.

We finished this up, and I watched Matt Kelly tell a ~10 year old girl in a princess dress about how the Horror Movie Night shirt he’d been slinging features a ghost with a boner. He also performed some sort of rap shortly afterwards.

Not the ghost boner moment, but not far from it.

I took this as an opportunity to leave the booth and to walk a bit more of the show floor. I headed towards Artist’s Alley in search of a print for my dad. In previous years he’s sent with with some cash, and I’ve added some cash of my own (as a birthday present) to get him a commission from a neat artist. This year I’m so broke that this just can’t happen, so I need to find something cool as a consolation prize.

I’m also in search of a cool looking Deadpool cosplay to take a photo of. One of my friend’s kids is a huge Deadpool fan (doesn’t he know that Deadpool isn’t for kids?) and asked me to snap a photo of one for him. Naturally, prior to this request I saw a myriad of them, but following the request I’ve yet to see a single one (even while legimately searching for one). Lame.

After some walking around, I decide to head across the road to the Petco Interactive Zone. Here, there are installations for things like IT, some sort of game called Recoil, photo ops for Game of Thrones, Luke Cage and more, some sort of World of Warcraft ice cream, and more. The lines for everything here were pretty long, and I was beginning to feel a bit off (could the con flu be coming on?) so I decided to head out without experiencing any of the content.

I took a walk around the outside of Petco Park to witness just how far the line for the upcoming Impractical Jokers Block Party stretched around the park, and it was nearly all the way. I’m talking thousands of people waiting to get in to experience the White Castle food truck, Sumo Wrestling, and other odd activities.

It’s hard to tell from this photo, but it was one of the longest lines I’d seen this year.

I wandered back up to the convention centre, went upstairs to see if Ballroom 20 had a lineup at this time as there was a The Simpsons panel here that sounded pretty interesting (it did, a very, very long one), and just sat down in the hall to get some writing done. At this point in the day I’m feeling pretty ill (I should have consumed more Emergen-C in the past few days), and instead of wanting to do anything else at the convention centre at this time, I kind of just want to have a nap.

I decided to sit down for a little while, and found an area outside of a panel room that wasn’t too packed. I continued to feel more and more nauseous, and as I knew nearly nothing that had been announced at Comic-Con thus far, I decided to scroll some news feeds. I watched a bad-ass first trailer for Ready Player One (I need to read the book again before the film comes out), the fantastic first full trailer for Stranger Things 2, and learned that Todd McFarlane was directing a new Spawn movie for Blumhouse.

At this point I was fading fast, and decided that I needed to grab some food and head back to the hotel to chill for awhile. I made my way back up to the Horton Plaza which at this point seemed like the only affordable food in the area, and ended up getting another round of Panda Express in before my long trip back to Canada the next day. I figured that I should buy something to augment the free things that I’d obtained thus far, so I made my daily round through the WWE FYE Pop-Up Shop (read all about it right here) and settled on some Bayley Gummy Bears and a The New Day Water Bottle. It was a cool $16 total, which seemed fine until I realized that I’d just spent more than $10 Canadian on Gummy Bears.

I arrived back at the Westin, gave my fiancé a quick call, and then napped for an hour or so. This was probably the best decision I’d made all day, as I woke up feeling pretty damned refreshed, and substantially less nauseous than I did previously. When I awoke, there was a notification from Expedia on my phone letting me know that I could now check in for my flight back to Vancouver. This reminded me that this year’s journey would soon be coming to an end.

At this point it was about 5:45PM, and I was under the impression that we’d be recording Geekscape Games in the morning, so I didn’t think that I’d have an opportunity to hit the show floor again after today. I opted to take a quick Lyft back to the convention centre so that I could have as much time as possible (the driver, Marcia, was very interested in what I’d experienced at the convention thus far). Here, I walked through Artist’s Alley once more, adoring all of the art that I couldn’t afford, walked by the weird hentai grab brags and missed Shane once again, and once again tried for a Stranger Things hat for Mikaela (no go, sorry sweetie). The convention floor closed, and we all booked it to Rockin’ Baha for one last dinner together (making 2017 the first year that I was able to experience the mango/pineapple salsa twice).

Matt, Courtney, and I made our way back to the hotel and decided to hit up the whirlpool as a means to relieve our aching feet. On our way back, Matt spotted a Deadpool without a mask. I noted that “Without a mask he’s useless to me,” to which Matt yelled “Yo Deadpool put your mask on for a second.” It worked, and I got the shot for my friend. I never would have asked him myself, so I guess thanks are in order.

At this point we had decided that we’d actually record a Geekscape Games podcast tonight, as some events ended up being booked for Sunday morning. Josh was unable to join due to an impromptu Michelle Branch (and not Sarah McLaughlin) concert, Adam was at a Sonic Mania, and Shane didn’t come to Comic-Con, so we invited Matt to be our third (especially as we’d mostly be talking about Comic-Con rather than video game news).

In the whirlpool, we met a guy who was in charge of designing Hot Wheels for Mattel. He noted that he’d worked in the auto industry for over a decade before getting a random call from Mattel, and that he took the job as it sounded like a fun departure. He told us a story about designing cars for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, noting that he’d designed a car based on a really cool character who ended up barely present in the final cut, and how weird it ended up being for a toy like this to come out when nobody would care (or even be familiar with) the character. Matt took the lead on the conversation (it kind of sounded like he was trying to take this guy home too), and he certainly had some incredibly interesting stories to tell.

Upon returning to the hotel room, we found Gui asleep meaning that this nice, quiet location was no longer an option. We ended up going downstairs and using the outdoor patio, which was quiet for the most part (aside from the occasional ambulance, musical pedicab, or train). Matt, Courtney, and I chatted about our favourite moments of the convention (this was Courtney’s first convention ever), things we were looking forward to tomorrow, the future of Geekscape, and much more. This was a really neat episode for me to be a part of, as it felt a little more in depth and personal than what we typically record. I’ll update this piece with the link to the episode as soon as Shane posts it (and works his audio magic as we did not use a monitor this time around).

Echoing what I said yesterday, I feel like I only just arrived, and it’s crazy to me that tomorrow afternoon all of this is coming to an end. I’ve shared a lot of great stories and laughs, and have had some deeper serious moments at this convention, not to mention all of the neat actually convention related things that I’ve been able to do. I’m not done with my family here just yet, and at this point I don’t want to go.

As I finish this piece, I’m the last one awake in the room. This is the last night that I’ll hear Jonathan’s insomnia-inducing snores until next year’s Comic-Con, and soon the wonderful face to face conversations that I’ve been having with everyone will again be relegated to text (or podcast, if I’m lucky). This is pretty sad, as I’m just not ready to say goodbye to these people. I wish I had a few more non Comic-Con days to spend with these folks once the insanity settles down, and on previous years, I would have.

In any case, I’m truly grateful that I got to spend some time with these people at all. I once again feel a closeness to them that was substantially weaker when I arrived, and it reminded me of how important these relationships are to me, and also of just how much these people care about me. I hope that I can take these thoughts and feelings home with me, and continue what we once again started here from afar (also Courtney lives pretty close to me, so I could totally see her for real).

It’s still hard to believe that there can be this many people in one place.

Thanks to our friends over at Loot Crate, we have another exciting unboxing for you all! This round is the September 2016 shipment for their Loot Wear line. The theme this month is “Gotta Go Fast” and features clothing themed to characters who are all about speed and moving!

lootwear-oct16-sonic-socks

The Sonic the Hedgehog socks were far and away my favorite item from this month. The tag says that they are exclusive to the subscription service. The socks feature an all-around print with the Blue Blur and some gold rings. Wear them to make your slower friends jealous!

lootwear-oct16-deadpool-socks

There were also some Deadpool athletic socks included. But when you think of Deadpool… do you think of speed? Well, maybe the speed at which he swings those swords and throws out snappy one-liners!

lootwear-oct16-mario-kart-shirt lootwear-oct16-mario-kart-shirt-zoom

Subscribers also received a Mario Kart shirt (who doesn’t dread that blue shell?), another Loot Wear-exclusvie. The fabric was in the distressed-style with some parts thinner than the others. A pretty awesome reminder that no matter where you are on the track, you can always catch up!

lootwear-oct16-transformers-jerseylootwear-oct16-transformers-jersey-zoom

This shipment included two Transformers items, the first of which being an Autobots soccer jersey. The polyester fabric had some give to it but I didn’t terribly like the texture overall. It felt a little slick and unlike what I am used to in terms of clothing but that is just my opinion. The jersey featured a large patch of the Autobots emblem… just in case there was a question as to who you were “rolling out” with!

lootwear-oct16-transformers-shorts lootwear-oct16-transformers-shorts-zoom

The second Transformers piece was a pair of what appear to be work-out shorts with a print of the character, Arcee, on one side. The shorts were made of a soft jersey.

I was a little underwhelmed by this shipment, personally. I think one of the problems was my lack of interest in several of the franchises included, specifically Deadpool and Transformers. And while I did love the Sonic crew socks, I can’t think of a time that I would wear them. Perhaps the largest issue was that the majority of the items included seemed to be made with men in mind. There actually is a more women-oriented Loot Wear subscription, “Loot for Her,” which I think would have suited me better.

If this unboxing has you interested in subscribing, you can get some money off of your first Crate either by following this link or entering “Geekscape” into the promo code area upon checkout! If speed is your thing, this Loot Wear crate might still be available so head on over!

Every year, one of my favorite Anime Expo events is the Anime Music Video contests. Sometimes, you’ll come across the perfect song to go with your favorite anime, but you don’t have anywhere near the amount of talent it takes to put the two together. And by you, I mean me.

Thankfully, people who do have the talent come together to make us laugh, cry and pump our fists in the air, as the best of the best are pit against each other in six different categories. Divided among action, drama, fun, dance, comedy and sentiment categories, one of the light hearted “trailers” that played in between categories won the fan vote, while a real tear jerker captured the judge’s attention.

First up, “Seven Years” by YouTube user Sakoda15 brought together the reminiscent Lukas Graham hit of the same name with the time traveling anime, Erased. The tragic nature of the series coupled with the lyrics symbolizing days gone by created a deeply emotional video that captured our attention, even if we had never heard the song or watched the show before this point. Between the two meshing so well together, the terribly sad scenes depicted, or the masterful editing, it’s easy to figure out why this was well deserved. Seeing as this was the video that I picked for my video of the show, I was thrilled to see that it won one of the two big awards by the time all the votes were counted. Watch it yourself below, and make sure to keep a box of tissues nearby.

On the more humorous side, the fans voted not for one of the main categories, but rather one of the mock trailers that combined anime with our favorite commercials and movie previews. As a match made in heaven, it’s no wonder why the One Punch Man and Deadpool mash-up produced by Otaku Lounge Productions, Deadpunch, walked away with the popular vote. The funny thing was I didn’t even know you could vote for a trailer when it came to video of the show! Not that it would’ve changed my vote, but I’ll keep it in mind for next year.

What do you think of the winners, and if you were there, which videos did you vote for? Sound off in the comments and let us know, assuming you’re emotionally stable enough to type after that first video.

Briefly: We’re finally just a few weeks away from the anticipated (and special feature-filled) Blu-Ray release of Deadpool, and Fox has just debuted a fantastic new featurette detailing just how much work went into crafting the titular character’s impressive mask.

Seriously, you’d never believe how freaking complicated this thing is.

Watch the featurette below, and be sure to let us know if you plan to pick up Deadpool on May 10th.

Crazy, right?

Briefly: Please be true.

This past weekend at the New York Toy Fair, Fox handed out a pamphlet to attendees noting all of their upcoming theatrical and home video releases.

Being just a year away at this point, the highly anticipated sequel to 2013’s The Wolverine made the pamphlet, giving us our very first logo for the feature, as well as noting a ‘Targeted Rating’ of R.

This comes at a time when the R-rated Deadpool shattered (and continues to shatter) financial expectations, breaking box office records, and this draw is likely to continue with the fantastic word of mouth that everyone has been giving the feature.

Based on that, if there was ever an appropriate time for a more mature Wolverine film, that time is now, and we can only hope that this wasn’t a misprint. That said, is it a safe move to take a PG/PG-13 character that people of all ages have been watching for years, and give him a more mature angle? I could anticipate a lot of angry parents ignorine ratings and walking out of theatres with their young ones.

Take a look at the image below, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see in the next The Wolverine! The film hits theatres on March 3rd, 2017!

Wolverine

Briefly: Deadpool is still three days away from theatres (check out our review here), and apparently Fox has already begun work on a sequel.

The news comes from THR, which notes that Deadpool is tracking for a minimum weekend gross of 65 million.

No word on whether or not director TJ Miller will return, but Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will also pen the script for the sequel.

It’s still pretty freaking amazing that Deadpool was made at all, and now it’s incredible that the film hasn’t even released yet, and that Fox already wants a sequel.

Deadpool opens on February 12th!

Briefly: The Super Bowl spots keep on coming!

This time around, it’s likely one of the last TV spots we’ll see for Deadpool, as the movie is just a few more days away, and we’ve already seen about a thousand different trailers and TV spots.

This time around, Mr. Pool tells us all about how he’s always wanted to be a pro-athlete.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Take a look at the spot below, read our review of the film right here, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for the film! Deadpool hits theatres this Friday!

Deadpool is a movie so in love with the main character, it forgot about everything else.

At last, 20th Century Fox has produced the big-budget Deadpool, an R-rated superhero movie that Marvel fans wished for. This movie shouldn’t exist, not the least of which because it features a crass cult-favorite superhero at a time when superheroes are toys at the Disney Store. And for many that’s a plus, because that’s simply who Deadpool is: He’s arrogant, gross, sarcastic, constantly breaks the fourth-wall, and revels in murder and mayhem. He’s a symbol of a lot of what comic books did wrong in the 1990s, and miraculously survived through the new millennium to keep the audience he enjoys today. If only that audience had higher standards.

I’ll count myself among that audience: I too love Deadpool and wanted this movie ever since the maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine left me cold. X-Men Origins was an offense to a lot of filmmaking, but to fandom’s sensibilities they only care about Wade Wilson. I’m happy to report that Deadpool miraculously nails its lead character almost pitch perfect, played by a Ryan Reynolds who so clearly believes in what he’s doing. His natural comedic timing coupled with his understanding of the character really makes it feel as though Wade Wilson made the leap from the comic book page. Reynolds also served up a bonus of crowd-pleasing abdominal muscles and a Canadian geniality that are likely the sole reasons why Fox gave the project the greenlight at all — jerk superheroes live and die by their actors, and only Reynolds could have been Deadpool. If not, this movie would have stayed in production hell.

Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin in 'Deadpool.' The two share great chemistry that barely overcomes the averageness of their shared journey.
Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin in ‘Deadpool.’ The two share great chemistry that barely overcomes the averageness of their shared journey.

In fact, making Deadpool must have been hell. Deadpool works well on the comic book page because of his unique humor and fourth wall-breaking sensibilities, which is not easy to bring to screen. There’s a chance for it to go so wrong so badly, and maybe once or twice it actually does when a few jokes fall a few notes flat. But director Tim Miller — a first-time filmmaker, who began his career in CGI and video games, which you may notice in the opening credits — shows promise as an artist who can walk the tightrope between action and comedy. But he’s no Edgar Wright or Jackie Chan, masters of doing both within the same frame.

So where does Deadpool go wrong? Structure, for one. The film knows its audience so well, that it wastes no time introducing Reynolds in the costume killing dudes, but in doing so it compromises build-up, suspense, and worse, investment. Deadpool’s opening should have been crowd-pleasing, but instead it feels as empty and hollow as the CGI it’s made of. Deadpool sacrifices pacing and rhythm in exchange for an immediate rush, and as a result suffers. It adopts lengthy flashbacks in a structure that will feel familiar to fans of Arrow on the CW, in which current events are given exposition through relevant flashbacks. And I hate that about Arrow, and thus found it aggravating in Deadpool.

A fourth wall-breaking character would also point out the absolute cliches of its own film. Or so you’d think. Aside from a few jabs, Deadpool outright ignores Wade from X-Men Origins despite sharing continuity with the X-Men films (which are so broken anyway so it doesn’t matter). In Deadpool, Wade is a retired U.S. military operative haunted by a hefty 49 kills — humor is his defense mechanism. He’s now a mercenary, but only helps good people who deserve it (this is supposed to make sense) and falls in love with a hooker (Morena Baccarin, of Firefly and Homeland fame) at his favorite merc bar. After some great sex, Wade discovers he has terminal cancer and in his desperation turns to a promising but shady “superhuman” program. His “doctor” is Ajax, who looks nothing like his comic book version so there goes Deadpool being faithful to the source material I guess, and tortures Wade to disfigurement. Wade swears revenge, hoping Ajax will cure him before he can kill him.

TJ Miller and Gina Carano in 'Deadpool.' Carano is kept to a minimum while Miller goes all-in.
TJ Miller and Gina Carano in ‘Deadpool.’ Carano is kept to a minimum while Miller goes all-in.

For a movie bent on self-awareness, Deadpool does nothing to address some of its own cliches. Ajax is a British villain out of every Bond film, Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa is still a damsel in distress no matter how you cut it, and like every Marvel movie a big, massive structure is seen falling in the climactic fight. Wouldn’t it have been great if Deadpool — which is technically not a Marvel movie — take actual shots at the shortcomings of the MCU, which get clearer with every passing film?

Also disappointing for Deadpool is its over-reliance on a CGI superhero. Being a more martial arts-centric superhero with a violent streak, I had hoped to see something like The Raid in Deadpool, which is perfect for the character. Though the opening sequence on the highway (which is a retake of the leaked concept trailer) is quite nasty, the final fights are less bloody or noteworthy.

Less disappointing are Deadpool‘s array of side characters. TJ Miller (Silicon Valley) is on absolute fire, while the legendary Leslie Uggams, a Tony Award-winning performer, shows she is totally game for gross shit as Blind Al, Wade’s roommate after post-Ajax. Their presence is cut a little too short, and by the end you’ll realize they almost contributed nothing except some pep talk. But at least they’re vastly entertaining all the way through. Gina Carano is fine and thankfully less talky, while Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will vary depending on one’s own familiarity with the X-Men.

Deadpool is a study in contradictions. It’s a superhero movie, but the hero is an asshole. It stars Ryan Reynolds, one of the most handsome men in the world, but his face gets shriveled like a testicle (they keep that one-liner, by the way). It’s an R-rated popcorn commercial movie, but its target audience are clearly white guys who laugh at the same bacon jokes on Reddit. It’s a movie that wants to satirize superhero cliches, but falls victim to its own (remember Yinsen in Iron Man, Tony Stark’s prison mate who dies and inspires him? Deadpool has a Yinsen too).

Ultimately, Deadpool is a dream come true, but maybe we should have asked for more.

Briefly: We’re finally just nine days away from the beyond anticipated release of Deadpool, and Fox has just debuted a new featurette for the film, digging into the tone, origin, and action of the anticipated feature.

Briefly: We’re finally less than two weeks away from the beyond anticipated release of Deadpool, and Fox has just debuted another short, hilarious promotional video for the upcoming feature.

Like the Australia Day video that we saw last month, today’s promo has Deadpool wishing all of us a happy year of the monkey.

Briefly: Can you believe that we’re finally just two weeks away from Deadpool?

The film has had one of the best (and most hilarious) marketing campaigns in recent memory, and as such we couldn’t be more excited to finally see it. Every trailer, teaser, poster, billboard, and national holiday video (yep) has been an absolute gas, to the point where I wonder just how the full feature could possibly stack up.

Fox has just debuted the first clip from the anticipated film, titled ‘2 Girls, One Punch’ (again, yep), which gives us a great sense of some of the film’s supporting cast.

Briefly: Did you know that Australia Day was a thing?

Deadpool did, and he just released a video message to all of his Australian fans, wishing them a happy holiday, while also nothing that they couldn’t be forgiven, well, because they gave the world Wolverine.

It’s just another piece of the absolutely hilarious marketing campaign that’s touched every facet of Deadpool‘s upcoming release. Take a look at the video below (whether you’re in Australia or not), and let us know what you think!

Deadpool hits North American theatres on February 12th!

Briefly: Ready for more silly, yet effective marketing for next year’s Deadpool?

Yeah you are.

20th Century Fox has just taken to Twitter to debut a new TV spot for the anticipated film. This spot shows the film off as the love story that it really is, and notes to ‘Never judge a book by its cover – unless it’s the Kama Sutra.’

Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Take a look at the spot below, and let us know what you hope to see in the final film! Deadpool hits (North American) theatres on February 12th!

Briefly: Following the hilarious IMAX trailer (and stylish poster) from last week, Fox has just debuted a trio of new stills from next year’s anticipated Deadpool film.

Sure, the images don’t reveal much from the upcoming feature… aside from Negasonic Teenage Warhead wearing a New Mutants uniform, which is pretty freaking cool.

Briefly: Ready for more silly, yet effective marketing for next year’s Deadpool?

Yeah you are.

20th Century Fox has just debuted the IMAX trailer and poster for the anticipated film. The trailer is short, but hilarious at any time of the day, which was made clear by the uproarious laughter of the entire audience in my 6:00AM IMAX showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Yeah you are.

20th Century Fox has just debuted a new, holiday-themed poster for the anticipated film. Looks like he’s adapted the terrible (and hilarious) ugly sweater trend.

That said, I would absolutely love to own this sweater.

Yeah you are.

20th Century Fox has just debuted a cheeky new poster for the upcoming feature, noting that Deadpool is (as if anyone needed to tell us), a bad ass, and a smart ass, with a… well, just take a look at the poster.

Briefly: First revealed all the way back in August, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of High Moon Studios’ Deadpool are finally available!

The game first released on last-gen consoles all the way back in 2013, and while the game received fairly mixed critical reception, our very own Jonathan London is adamant that it’s actually a lot of fun.

I haven’t actually had an opportunity to play the game, but his love for the title, plus everyone’s newly found interest in the character due to next year’s fantastic-looking film release certainly has me itching to see some of that fourth-wall breaking content.

The release also includes all of the DLC that was available for the original game, and just like last time, the extraordinary Nolan North voices the merc with a mouth.

Take a look at the Deadpool launch trailer below, and let us know if you plan to pick up the $50 re-release!

There are a few important things I need to say before you crack into my insanely sweet game. (Oof. Here we go again.) I’m a mercenary with an accelerated healing factor. I’ve been described as unstable, which is just plain coo-coo. (Wait, do sane people say coo-coo?) I’m gonna battle for the safety of humans and mutants. (And even mumans.) Be prepared for just about anything. (Holla!).

Halloween may be over, and the Deadpool film isn’t out til next year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy Ryan Reynolds as the titular “merc with a mouth”.

Over the weekend, Reynolds went out and about in his Deadpool costume and took an adorable photo with some X-Men trick-or-treaters. That would be enough, but he then posted a quick little behind the scenes video that is absolutely hilarious.

This little video just solidifies Reynolds as THE perfect Deadpool. It’s obvious that when he puts on the costume, he channels his inner nutbag and runs with it. February cannot come soon enough!

And the picture this video is all about is just as awesome.

Remember, tonight we set our clocks back 34 years. #happyhalloween

Briefly: Do you remember the unexceptional Deadpool game that released for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in 2013?

No?

Well, soon you’ll get your chance to give it another shot, as Deadpool is making the jump to PS4 and Xbox One.

The updated version will release on November 17th for $50, and include all of the DLC that was available for the original game.

It’s certainly an interesting release, as typically games that get current-gen re-releases are quite well received. Deadpool, on the other hand, received negative-average ratings from most publications.

In any case, if you’re a Deadpool fan who missed out on the game last time around, you’re about to get your chance.

This week’s episode was recorded LIVE on the campus of Yale University at Explo 2015! Just what IS Explo? Well, you’re going to listen to get the full answer to that one, but you know how they say “you can’t go home again?” Well, I kind of did, returning to my old teenage summer camp as a Scholar in Residence to talk to the campers about film, writing and video games… so basically a weeklong Geekscape episode! I recruit Camp Instructor Richard into talking to me about the stages of growing up and chasing your geek passions professionally! And then I get the campers involved! Maddy tells us about navigating being a geek in high school and what Japanese games she would love to see imported State-side! Max shares his love of the new ‘Deadpool’ trailer while convincing us his dad ISN’T a super villain and Fisher talks to us about his newfound love of cosplay! Oh, and I also tell you guys to go watch ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’! It’s a big, heartfelt episode so pack your bags and come back to camp with me!

Holy crap!

What?

Sorry, I mean—holy $#!%!

Did you eat my sacred burrito? I was saving that for an emergency.

What kind of emergency?—your trainwreck face?

Or in case I get stuck in an elevator with the Kardashians.

This article got derailed before it even started.

The debut of this Deadpool trailer in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con was so beyond amazeballs that we need to invent a new expression! People were freaking out! There were tears!

Fantastico?

Freaktastic!

It was better than putting your @!&# in a #@!& slathered with %#$&% and #%@&!%& your $#%& to her mother.

. . .

. . .

It’s kinda Shakespearian, right?

. . .

. . .

Or superrific.

I think I need to wash my brain out with soap.

After so many attempts to get Deadpool magic on screen, it looks like it’s finally going to happen! With an R rating! You know what that means?!

Violence? Extra violence? Stan Lee getting some strange?

Boobies?

It means we can say what we want!

Ooo, then I’m changing my answer to boobies. Or as I like to call them, #!@@-&#!$ domes of %@&#. What the hell’s wrong with this keyboard?

. . .This article is rated PG.

&@#%$. . .

Cut to the trailer!

. . .Where’s the soap?

This is pretty much exactly what you would expect from ‘Deadpool’; 4th wall-breaking commentary about the star and previous incarnation of ‘Deadpool‘ and the studio that let it happen.

I’m pretty stoked for this movie. ‘Deadpool’ is a fan favorite of the Marvel Comics Universe for his sheer craziness and his Rated R adventures. The full trailer will debut tomorrow!

SDCC is behind us and I’m joined by Geekscape contributors Kenny Craig, Derek Kraneveldt and Shane O’Hare to sift through the remains of an amazing week! What were the big surprises? Did ‘Batman V Superman’ surprise people as much as ‘Suicide Squad’ did? Did Star Wars own the convention? What swag did we end up with? Which Geekscapists hooked up when they hit the city? And can anyone stop yelling Danganronpa? PLUS! Cooper Barnes and Jace Lee Norman from Nickelodeon’s ‘Henry Danger’ drop by to say hi! It’s all here until next year!

Briefly: Along with those brand new The Walking Dead season six photos, EW has just debuted a new image of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.

And he looks so freaking cool.

The article reiterates that Reynolds has been looking to play the character for over a decade, and that this time around, it’s really, really Deadpool, and not that crap that we saw back in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Producer Simon Kinberg is also very adamant that “Deadpool is a hard R,” which is beyond exciting for fans. Take a look at the new image below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for the feature. Deadpool hits theatres on February 12, 2016!

Ryan Reynolds appeared on Extra to discuss the upcoming Deadpool movie and its PG-13 rating. It’s a startling interview, and the actor — a staunch supporter of the character to be as “R”-rated as possible — opens up about his change of heart. But he does express his disappointment, as well as the fans’ negative reactions about the direction the film will be going in.

Deadpool is still set for release next year.

Ryan Reynolds, star of the upcoming and long-anticipated Deadpool film, has just tweeted the first official image of the movie. And of course it’s ridiculous.

https://twitter.com/VancityReynolds/status/581485601674792960

Of course he did the Burt Reynolds. Did we really expect anything less?

The suit looks great. It looks like the most professional of cosplays, but really the Deadpool suit isn’t hard to nail down. It’s always had a ridiculously gritty film aesthetic in mind, which makes the fact that a Deadpool movie took so long kind of baffling.

A higher resolution image, if that’s what you want, is right below. Make it your new desktop wallpaper at work to make your coworkers think you’re the cool comic book geek.

Deadpool is set for February 12, 2016. There will be a lot of annoyed dates on Valentine’s Day.
