I didn’t even get out the front door of my comic shop before I opened up All New X-Men #1. As soon as I was done reading it I looked at the shelves hoping for more. Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen’s new series will launch the old children of the atom into the present of today after the events of AvX. Things are different now but a lot of the same. The mutant world is as chaotic as ever but now with the appearance of new mutants all over the globe we have Cyclops and his extinction team as wanted criminals fighting for mutants everywhere.

Bendis gets right to work with this issue building the stories of these new characters and re-establishing the longtime central theme that some X-books have been missing as of recent: a world full of fear and prejudice. We see the writer really do a great job of exploring both the fears of people coming face to face with mutants the first time as well as the people who discover they are mutants finding out that they are. We see the book bring in quite a few plot points at a fast pace but it works very smoothly and is an exciting read. It’s pretty impressive how well Bendis threads the plot points together in this issue.

The art work is beautiful and Immonen definitely is the right artist to be drawing the X-Men. Immonen’s characters are fantastically drawn in this dialogue heavy book and the moments never seem boring. The art never loses sight of being character-centric even when there’s a lot going on at the moment. And trust me when I say this issue has quite a bit going on in it.

Final verdict: If Bendis and Immonen can keep the series going as strong as this start…we’re in for a great run here. All-New X-Men #1 is definitely a solid  jumping on point for a new of generation X-readers as well as long time X-fans.

Grade: 4.5/5

It appears Cyclops and his Extinction team will be getting their own title next February. The latest Marvel NOW! teaser seems to indicate that Uncanny X-Men will be getting relaunched with an all-new #1 from the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Chris Bachalo. If you haven’t been reading AvX Consequences…you better start catching up now.

WWE champion and longtime comic book fan Phil Brooks, who you guys probably know better as CM Punk, will be writing the intro to Marvel’s upcoming hardcover edition of Avengers vs X-Men. A quite vocal supporter of the comic industry, Brooks said this about the opportunity:

“I worked really hard to get to where I’m at and it’s cool to be afforded opportunities like this. To me, it’s hard work paying off and I’m having a lot of fun right now. There’s good and there’s bad, but if you don’t stop to smell the roses, so to speak, it’s all for naught. If I had to describe my writing style, it’s very sarcastic and self-deprecating. You’ll be able to tell it in the foreword.”

Marvel Editor In Chief Axel Alonso also commented:

“Who understands the theatrical nuances of a good smack down more than WWE champ CM Punk, who brings the same muscle and heart he beings to the ring to his brilliant intro for Avengers vs. X-Men.”

Well, it appears we now know who is on the team of Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena’s upcoming Avengers title! So, from what we can see here is we’ve got Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Cannonball, Wolverine, Hulk, Captain Marvel, Falcon, Black Widow, Sunspot, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Hawkeye and well…I have no clue who that last one is. There appears to be a trend of mysterious background characters in these interlocking covers. I definitely had been wondering what they were going to do with the New Mutants squad with their series coming to an end in two issues. Check out the squad!

Earlier this year, Hastings released a special variant cover for Avengers Vs. X-Men #1 in which we saw Deadpool taking bets on who was going to come out on top of the epic battle. Well, it looks like we now know who’s going to be cashing in with another special variant for issue #12!

• Extra-sized final issue!
• It’s all come down to this! The final battle—as the world burns!

Fans worried that Marvel may be killing Scott Summers or Emma Frost can now breathe a sigh of relief. Earlier today I received images of all three of the interlocking covers for the new upcoming series All New X-Men. In these covers you definitely see that the two characters will be surviving Avengers Vs. X-Men, which further leads me to believe that  my theory [click here to see who I think it’s going to be] for who will be dying at the end of this event may be correct. This also goes to show that the character in Marvel NOW! promo image everyone beli

ved to be a re-design for Scott Summers may actually indeed not be the character. There also appears to be a mystery character in the background of the first part of the cover. I guess we’re going to have to wait a few months before we find out just who that is. Check out Stuart Immonen’s interlocking covers for All New X-Men! His artwork is definitely going to be a welcome addition to X-family.

Avengers Vs. X-Men is nearing the epic-conclusion with issue #11 hitting stands in three weeks and the finale shortly after. We all knew that this story would not be ending happy for everybody. At the end of the storyline one major character WILL die as seen by the cover of AvX: Consequences.

Based on the numerous interviews with the creative teams behind these books you can detect that this incident will have a greater effect on the X-Men than the Avengers. This most likely implies that the character that will die will indeed be a mutant. So, let’s discuss the most likely candidates to go out at the end of AvX.

Scott Summers

This seems to be the one on the top of everyone’s list. Personally, I have to disagree with him though. It’s too obvious and I can’t see Marvel building up the character over the past years just to lead to this. And, even though Marvel is denying it, that Marvel NOW! teaser image features a character that sure does look alot like Mr. Summers.

Emma Frost

Based on the cover to number 11 andseeing her and Cyclops going at it she is definitely on the list. And my personal pick to die. She’s one character I really can’t stand and hope is the one that Marvel takes out. One can only hope right?

Hope Summers

The “mutant messiah” is a definite candidate for being the one that goes out here. This battle began over her and most likely will end with her. I think she will make the ultimate sacrifice and that is how she is going to be the one who will “save the mutant race”. Phoenixes tend to flame out, particularly if there’s some noble world-saving to be done in the process, so it stands to reason that Hope would follow in Jean’s footsteps.

Charles Xavier

The top candidate is definitely Xavier. With the plot synopsis for X-Men: Legacy containing the line “in a post-Avengers vs. X-Men world that may – or may not – be without Xavier himself” it is highly possible that Xavier could sacrifice himself to save the mutant race or possibly even Scott from The Phoenix Force. In New Avengers #29, he stated “I’m prepared to stop Scott, no matter what the cost.” That one doesn’t sound too good for ol’ Charles.

So, these here are just my thoughts but there is quite a bit of evidence indicating that Xavier may die at the end of Avengers Vs. X-Men. So, who do you think is going to die? Sound off in the box below!

Have you been reading Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe? NO?! Well, you’re screwing up already. The mini-series has been flying off the shelf and is going into second print. And this one is time you may actually want to pick up some second prints. Remember those awesome variants from Siege #1, Wolverine #1 and AvX #1 that you probably didn’t get your grubby little hands on? Well, now you have a chance to get sketch variants (which are the hot thing right now) of those three issues as well as Fear Itself: Deadpool #2! Check ’em out!

One of the most surprising moments to fans in Avengers vs X-Men #9 was Marvel ending the marriage between The Black Panther and Storm. While most people could care less and some fans are even happy because of how fake the marriage honestly felt it still was pretty unexpected. In a recent interview with Newsarama, Avengers vs X-Men editor Tom Breevort explains the reasoning behind the action.

“I think it’s a little bit of everything. To be honest, I don’t know that we handled Storm and the Panther as a married couple as well as we could have on a consistent basis. This is a byproduct of the fact that they come from different corners of the MU, and it was often difficult to bridge the gap. X-readers and creators wanted Storm to be in the world of X rather than in Wakanda with the Panther, and the Panther’s trajectory was often well away from that X-world. So more often than not, we had the two of them separated, each off doing their own thing in their own sphere, and touching base with the other, but that’s about it. We never found that winning formula to put them into position in the Marvel U as a couple that would succeed long-term. Probably the closest we came was right after the wedding, when they became half of the Fantastic Four. It wasn’t absolutely necessary that we dissolve their union as a part of AvX, but as you said, it was a logical consequence of the conflict, and it adds a personal and emotional resonance to what goes on. And it’s not a relationship that we’re done with necessarily—as you’ll see as the remainder of AvX and AvX: VS plays out, and we get into the world of Marvel NOW.”

• They gather to stop the horrors of the Marvel universe before they happen…
• …but the secret group known as the illuminati failed to stop the Phoenix time and time again.
• They come together one last time…but will it be enough?

Marvel NOW! is coming and Marvel has released a teaser image showing Nick Fury Jr. and him keeping tabs on fan-favorite Cable. This appears to be the cover to the upcoming ‘Point One’ issue that will introduce us to Marvel NOW! What this could mean is unknown to anyone at the current but expect more characters to fill those blank spots soon.

In October we will see the start of the Marvel NOW! event in which Marvel will be launching a number of new titles. It appears in order to make room for the new titles a total of nine are set to be cancelled. This October, the following titles will be coming to an end.

-Captain America #19
-Fantastic Four #611
-FF #23
-Incredible Hulk #15
-Invincible Iron Man #527
-New Mutants #50
-The Mighty Thor #22
-Uncanny X-Men #20
-X-Men Legacy #275

This could mean we may see these books being relaunched with new titles and creative teams (there’s a rumor that John Romita Jr is taking over on Cap) at issue number one between October and February. I know for a fact there will be Iron Man, Thor and Captain America titles (either re-launced or re-named) but the rest are up in the air as far as I know. Full details will be revealed at Marvel’s Comic-Con panel this week.

I will admit it is a pretty cool line-up. Anything with Havok on the team means I’m reading it. I love Havok…but why is he back in a version of his classic suit? It also appears that Cap and Thor will definitely be getting more movie inspired looks after ‘AvX’.

Well, it looks like we may just be seeing the return of Jean Grey as one of the many changes that will occur during and after ‘AvX’. However, the return of Jean Grey might be more than meets the eye. Entertainment Weekly posted this image of her donning her classic Marvel Girl costume with a very mysterious line at the end of the article.

To answer your questions: Yes, this is Jean Grey — as in, the Jean Grey who’s been absent from Marvel Comics ever since dying for a second time back in the mid-’00s. And yes, she is modeling her vintage blue-and-yellow X-Men outfit from her Marvel Girl days. Does this mean that the fan-favorite character is finally returning? We can only confirm that her presence in the Marvel Universe will not be imaginary. This will not be part of the Ultimate line-up. She will not be a zombie hologram, like Shard on X-Factor What could this all mean? Check back tomorrow, when all the secrets will be revealed. (Or some of them, anyhow.)

I guess Marvel isn’t waiting for Comic-Con to pull out some of their big guns.

Earlier this month it was rumored we would be getting another Avengers title after AvX and the rumor was that it would be called ‘Astonishing Avengers’ and would be replacing ‘Secret Avengers’. Now it’s appearing that the name has been changed to ‘Uncanny Avengers’. The new title by Rick Remender and Jerome Opena will seem to throw a little more mutant on the team.

“Starring Wolverine and Captain America, running an Avengers team together, with Cap in a more movie-friendly costume. And something that is very much a post Avengers Vs X-Men comic…”

I’m guessing this means that the sides are going to getting split even more than they were after Schism. Most likely more mutants returning to Utopia. But who knows what Marvel has up their sleeve? Guess we will find out soon enough.

Marvel continues teasing their next big event “This Is War”. While many fans speculated this could be the Ultron War it continues to look less and less like it. Could they be going against the government? The Punisher?! I’m calling it as The Punisher based on these teasers. Guess we will have to wait and find out at Comic-Con.

Post-AvX we know Marvel will be returning to their cosmic titles and it seems we may be getting more than just one. It’s already been all but officially announced that Bendis will be launching a new ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ title. And according to our friends at Bleeding Cool we will also be getting a new ‘Nova’ series to join that.

The book will most likely focus on the new Nova…Sam Alexander (Sorry Richard Rider fans). The series is said to have Ed McGuiness drawing. And while we could see writing there is also possibility that it could be Jeph Loeb.  But neither writers have been actually attached and this is just speculation and we could get an entirely different writer.

It looks like ‘AvX’ could be the start of something even bigger. Marvel has posted two teaser images for their next event starting in October with the simple tagline “This Is War”.

No details have emerged yet but they will be announcing the details to this event at the Spider-Man panel (weird) at Comic-Con.

For months we’ve been hearing about all the changes in creative teams post-AvX. The main one that Bendis would be leaving all ‘Avengers’ titles.

Well, Bleeding Cool is posting some interesting rumors floating around the ol’ water cooler.

-Rick Remender and Jeremy Opena on an Avengers book? New Avengers maybe?

-Mark Waid takes over Avengers Assemble?

-Jonathan Hickman and Essad Ribic on either Uncanny X-Men or the Avengers books that’s not the one Remender and Opena are on?

– Kieron Gillen and Greg Land on Iron Man.

– Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca are sticking together… wherever they end up.

– Only the very best artists for a Brian Bendis cosmic relaunch…(Guardians Of The Galaxy…duh)

It also appears that Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca may just be taking over Fantastic Four and Hickman and Esad Ribic will replace Bendis on Avengers post-AvX.

Prometheus is finally here! But was it all that we’d hoped? I check out the mech simulator game Hawken and have a blast doing it! Predator is now 25 years old! Geekscape casts the JLA movie! And I am experience serious AvX fatigue! Stop it with these crossovers already!

And check out Matt’s positive review and Scott’s negative one!

Who do you agree with here?

At the end of ‘AvX: Round 5’ we witnessed Tony Stark make a fatal error and split The Phoenix force into five taking control of five hosts. Emma Frost, Namor, Cyclops, Magik and Collosus now each were host to a piece of The Phoenix force and Marvel EIC Alex Alonso recently discussed this with Comic Book Resources.

CBR: So this week we got introduced to what I keep calling the Phoenix Force Five — Phoenix because they’re empowered by it, Force because they’re a force to be reckoned with and five because there’s one, two, three, four, five of them…

Axel Alonso: We’re calling them the Phoenix Five, Kiel.

CBR: Okay! For a while, you’ve been talking about how the end of each act will be a turning point in the story that shakes the action up in a major way. How does these characters getting empowered like this change the course of the event?

Alonso: The most immediate question is, “Can the Phoenix Force be controlled?” Are these five individuals — any one of them or all five collectively — capable of controlling it? The Phoenix Force is destruction and rebirth, so it’s safe top say they’re going define exactly what that means. And as the teaser suggests, they have a chance to remake the word in their image. But what does that mean? You might be surprised.

CBR: How did the discussions go around who would be members of the five? Leaders like Cyclops and Emma seems like obvious picks, though I look at someone like Magik and wonder what specific role she’ll have to play.

Alonso: We carefully picked these five characters — Cyclops, Emma, Colossus, Magik and Namor — because of their personalities, their power sets, and the windows they offer into pockets of the Marvel Universe — hint, hint. Namor, for instance — you’ll see why we picked him, as Act 2 unfolds.

CBR: So far, the core argument of the series has been that question of whether the Phoenix will be a force of destruction or rebirth. The Avengers have had one idea and the X-Men another. Now it feels like the Phoenix Force has its own ideas and its own agenda for where to go next. How does that concept change the series? Can it contradict what either side expected up to this point?

Alonso: It’s possible that both sides are right. I mean…I can’t say anymore, man! [Laughter] That’s the beauty of the Phoenix Force — within it resides the potential for good and bad.

CBR: Like you said, we’ve had this “No More Avengers” teaser out for Act 2. Is that now the rallying cry for the Phoenix Force and the Phoenix Five? Does that force know the Avengers are the people hellbent on destroying it?

Alonso: All I can say is that the world might not be big enough for the Phoenix Five and the Avengers. If you think of Act 1 [“AvX” #1-5] as a boxing match, it’s safe to say the early rounds went to the Avengers, but the last round ended with a game-changing punch that sent the Avengers staggering to the ropes. That’s where we pick up with issue #6. Cap, Iron Man, Thor and the gang have got to shake it off and figure out just who their opponent is now, and what their next move should be. And let me make one thing perfectly clear: Do not assume the Avengers are the good guys and the X-Men are suddenly the bad guys. I’d wager that the Phoenix Five are going to earn some fans — including people who rooted for the Avengers in round 1.

‘AvX Round 5’ is on shelves now with ‘Round 6’ hitting shelves in two weeks.

Now while ‘AvX Round 6’ hasn’t even hit stands yet we have a first look at the cover for Round 11.

The final month of AvX opens with the first of two extra-sized issues! Fatality!”
