Briefly: Summit Entertainment today debuted the first teaser trailer (and poster) for the next chapter in the Divergent series, Insurgent.

In the film, the stakes are raised “for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.”

I’m quite looking forward to this one, as I thought that last year’s Divergent did a stellar job of bringing a few original ideas to the tired young-adult genre. Hopefully this continues with Insurgent and beyond!

In any case, take a look at the trailer and poster below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! Insurgent hits theatres on March 20th, 2015!

Insurgent

Briefly: Summit Entertainment today debuted the final trailer for next month’s Divergent.

I still don’t know much about the project (I’ve never read the Veronica Roth series that the book is based on), but everything we’ve seen from the footage released so far has been very solid. This new trailer simply adds to the mystery, and also features plenty of excellent new footage.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to it! Divergent hits theatres on March 21st.

Those of you who have read the books, how does Divergent look to you?

Based on Veronica Roth’s #1 New York Times best-selling novel, DIVERGENT is a gripping action thriller set in a futuristic world where society has been divided into five factions. As each person approaches adulthood, he or she must choose a faction and commit to it for the rest of their life. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) chooses Dauntless—the daring risk-takers who pursue bravery above all else. During the Dauntless initiation, Tris completes death-defying stunts and faces her inmost fears in spectacular simulations. When she discovers she is a Divergent, someone who will never be able to fit into just one faction, she is warned that she must conceal this secret or risk her life. As Tris uncovers a looming war which threatens her family and the life of the mysterious Dauntless leader whom she has come to love, Tris must face her greatest test yet—deciding whether revealing she is a Divergent will save her world—or destroy it.

With all the booming new stores on this little thing called the internet, it can be difficult to sort through all the possibilities for purchase. So let Geekscape be your guide. In the traditions of old, we’ll help you figure out what to take to make it a little less dangerous.

“A new lease on life for books.”

Ever wanted to carry your favorite book with you without lugging around the whole thing? Now you can, and not in a shiny, new book smell-less, electronic reader format, either. Retro Beads & Bangles offers you a recycling opportunity that looks adorable AND literate. Using book pages to make jewelry is not unique to the internet (as you’ll see below), but Retro also branches into brooches, bracelets, the using of sheet music, and old board-game pieces to make unique and specialized accessories for every day. These beautiful earrings, necklaces, and cufflinks immortalize famous names and phrases from classic — and currently popular — literature for a fair-ish every day price.

Shipping policies are not listed, so customer may beware — or want to read the 76 customer reviews before deciding.

“What a novel idea!”

Pretty Little Charms, also out of the UK, offers similarly recycled book jewelry. The categories featured here are Game Of Thrones, JK Rowling, Mortal Instruments, Divergent + Twilight, The Hunger Games, Narnia + LOTR, Alice in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, Sherlock + Classics, and Dictionary/Other. The charms feature different shapes, as well as colors: some heart-shaped in silver, others a beautiful copper with a steampunk-like accessory hanging off of the main jewelry. Compasses accompany sections of map and silver wolf heads sit next to “direwolf”. It’s all very appropriate and well placed. Pretty Little Charms also offers rings in pairs, offering a chance to celebrate your favorite geeky ship either with your special someone or all on your own if you’re greedy.

The charms that come with the sections of words, and the choice illustrations for others, are really what makes Pretty Little Charms’ selection glow. You can carry your favorite character or phrase along with you in stylish fashion.

All items are $3 shipping for the first item and free for additional items. There is a fair return policy: anything can be returned in exchange, except for earrings (hygiene!) and you foot the shipping.

Pretty Little Charms would like you to note that these items are NOT waterproof. They are made from books! Therefore, care should be taken when you’re deciding where and how to wear them.

“Wearable literature.”

If jewelry isn’t your thing, then head over to Storiarts, where you can acquire pages of classic literature printed onto a scarf, or writing gloves. How fancy would you feel if you owned something called “writing gloves”? Tori Tissell produces these wonders by hand, with the text chosen from such pieces as “Pride & Prejudice” and “Sherlock Holmes”. You may also custom order if you have your own choice of words (book paragraph, music, poetry, etc) prepared. Storiarts’ scarves look gorgeous and, as they say, will make you feel both “warm and intelligent”. Just be sure that your chosen text is not copyrighted and can be reprinted and sold without bringing terrible consequences down upon Tissell’s head. That’s the polite thing to do.

All items are shipped via the USPS and tracking is available. Storiarts accepts returns or exchanges within ONE week of delivery, but if you do a custom order then a full refund cannot be granted, so choose wisely. And not poooorly.

Briefly: Following the film’s first trailer released earlier this week, Summit Entertainment has debuted the first featurette for the highly anticipated Divergent.

The video features plenty of quips and quotes from the film’s cast and crew, and even spotlights Divergent author Veronica Roth explaining just what the book is about.

Are you looking forward to the film? Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know what you think! Want to know how things stack up to the novel? Check out our comparison!

So the first trailer for Summit’s new film Divergent was released last night, and having read the book, I am pretty excited about the movie adaptation. Here are some of my thoughts after watching those brief few minutes of footage (obviously, there may be some spoilers below!):

http://youtu.be/LUe2chuZVIo

1. The trailer seemed to capture the main character Tris, played by Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, The Spectacular Now), quite well. As I read the novel, I couldn’t help but compare Tris to a certain protagonist of The Hunger Games, plucked from what seemed like a backwards post-apocalyptic society and thrust into a world that looks more similar to our own.

2. Kate Winslet’s character, Jeanine Matthews, seems to have been made more prominent in the film. Again, I am only basing this on the trailer, but it made her look like a major character in the film, while in the book she had a fairly small role. It could be that Winslet is the most recognizable actor in the film, so the trailer focuses on her a bit more than it should. From what I hear she’s much bigger in the sequel, Insurgent, but I haven’t gotten to that one yet.

3. The continuity seems to be fairly consistent with the novel. Some of the quicker scenes in the trailer (Tris jumping from the rooftop, the knife taking the tiny slice of her ear) were pivotal moments in the book, and the emphasis on them in the trailer makes me think they will remain important moments in the storyline.

4. The setting and scenery seem perfect. The story takes place in Chicago after something has happened to most of the world , and the people of the city work together to keep society going. From the few shots of scenery in the trailer, it seems they kept true to the book’s description of the buildings, especially the long, rocky hallways of Tris’ eventual home.

5. Yes, this story has the cheesy romance of Twilight films, but they kept it to a minimum and mostly downplayed it in the book as secondary to the plot. The trailer seems to push the possibility of romance, but that’s probably just to attract a certain demographic.

Overall, this trailer got me more excited for the film, and now I will probably start reading  Insurgent tomorrow. It should be a fun film to follow as we get closer to its release in 2014.

Now it’s your turn, what did you think of the trailer!?

Briefly: Here it is, folks. Following the neat infographic from earlier today, and the short teaser from earlier this week, Summit Entertainment has just debuted the first trailer for Divergent.

It actually looks pretty cool. I haven’t read as much as a synopsis for the book, but based on this trailer, Divergent looks to have what it takes to be the next young adult mega hit.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Divergent hits theatres on March 21st, 2014!

Briefly: Following the tiny teaser released earlier this week, and preceding the first full trailer set to launch at tonight’s VMA’s, Summit Entertainment has released a cool new infographic for the highly anticipated Divergent.

The graphic shows the 5 different factions from the world of Divergent, and what each faction stands for. Not the most revealing image, but should be a nice refresher for fans of the book, and a nice introduction to those new to the world!

Take a look at the graphic below (click for larger), and watch for the film’s first trailer later tonight!

When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

Briefly: Summit Entertainment has finally released the first teaser for Neil Burger’s highly anticipated Divergent… kind of.

The entire tease clocks in at a less-than-brief 13 seconds, but does actually reveal some pretty cool scenes. We also get our very first (and of course, very short) look at Kate Winslet’s portrayal of Jeanine Matthews in the film.
