This must be the week for patents and trademark leaks. First we got the Pokemon Logos from the EU patent office, now we got our hands on some interesting tech from Sony.

NeoGaf user Rosti has collected the, now public, patent and trademarking documents for an upcoming hardware peripheral. Check out the Playstation glove!

Bear in mind that this patent was originally filed way back in 2014, but now have just become public information.

The contents of the patent specifically include three items of note to gamers.

Thumb Controller

Glove Interface

Systems and methods for providing feedback to users while interacting with content.

The extent of the patent show the “glove” having multiple flexible sensors in it, and may provide force feed back. Take note that the glove may be able to read gestures, and take them in as commands.

Sony plans to have a VR event come March 15th, so expect to see something about the Playstation Glove there as well as confirmation of the Morpheus 2016 launch.

We’re less than 24 hours away from a special, Pokemon Themed Nintendo Direct, and we just got our first glimpse of what we can expect tomorrow!

Nintendo, as of this morning, have filed for trademarks for two new Pokemon related items. Take a look at the OHIM entries below!

poke trade

OHIM (Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market) is the European trademark association, so these are for EU specifically. Both entries have the same “Nice Classifications” of 9, 16, 28, and 41. These are Scientific, Paper, Games, and Entertainment respectively. For Nintendo to trademark these two items, with logos in these categories we can safely assume that these are the newest Pokemon games to be announced!

Be sure to check out the Nintendo Twitch Channel tomorrow morning at 7 AM PST to see the full release!

We’re at it again Geekscapists! It’s giveaway time, the go around we’ve teamed up with AfterShokz to give you gamers a chance to get your hands on a pair of their Gamez bone conducting wireless headsets!

First, a little bit about AfterShokz and the Gamez headset.

AfterShokz has strived to bring bone conducting technology to lightweight headsets. They’ve prioritized situational awareness, safety and comfort in their designs. They’ve brought what they’ve created and are known for to the gaming market. Gamez headsets don’t actually sit ON your ears, but right in front of them. Two bone conducting transducers sit right on your cheekbone. They send vibrations through your cheekbone and into your inner ear, completely bypassing your ear drum. This means you aren’t shut out from what is around you (perfect for CS:GO LAN parties where making calls to the people in the room is essential), and gamers with hearing impairments aren’t kept away from the action. They also feature:

PremiumPitch+™ Stereo Sound: Bone conduction audio has earned its bad reputation due to a blend of natural sound leakage and weak bass. PremiumPitch+™ technology optimizes the sound and includes additional features like LeakSlayer™ technology, which ensures sound is directed exactly where it should be.

OpenFit™: A promise of uncompromised situational awareness and extended comfort due to our revolutionary open ear design. That means you can tune in to your games without tuning out the world around you.

Sweat Resistant: IP55 rated to repel sweat, moisture and dust.

Six Hours of Gaming and Calls: A single charge will reliably deliver six hours of game play and talk time. You can charge fully in 1.5 hours; a quick 15-minute charge provides enough boost to get you through a long gaming session or call.

Noise Canceling Mics: Precisely placed dual noise canceling microphones exclude surrounding noise, effectively enhancing speech when communicating with other gamers during game play.

Voice Prompts: Audrey Says™ seamlessly guide you through power, pair, play and talk, and everything in between.

Now, read below for what you’re really looking for (how to enter, of course):

Al that you need to do to enter is sign up using your email or Facebook login in the widget below, and then choose from multiple ways to gain ballots! The more you do, the better your chances, and you can even tweet once a day to maximize your entries! The History Channel announced today that they are launching a new late night comedy block, and Dan Harmon will be in charge of the flagship program!

Entitled Night Class, the block will feature “short format” shows all centered around Historical facts but with a comedic twist. The first three shows in the block all sound entertaining as hell.

Great Minds with Dan Harmon features the man himself purchasing a time machine, and subsequently getting visited by history’s greatest minds. He then brings them out into modern society to see how they react. The show will feature the talent of: Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Jason Sudeikis, Dana Carvey, Aubrey Plaza, Kristen Schaal, Nick Kroll, Scott Adsit, Andy Dick, Ron Funches, Paul F. Tompkins, Thomas Middleditch and Robert Smigel. That’s a whole lot of talent!

Crossroads of History is created and written by Elizabeth Shapiro and promises to touch on mostly unknown moments in history that had gigantic affects. Such as President Lincoln’s alcoholic bodyguard skipping out on his duty when the President decided to catch a show at the Ford Theater. The show will feature the likes of Lou Diamond Phillips, Brian Baumgartner, Angela Kinsey, Keir O’DOnnell, Mack McBrayer, Wayne Knight, Liioyd Ahlquist and Paul Scheer.

How to Lose the Presidency will feature real moments and clips from presidential hopefuls that ultimately helped cement their failure at winning the Oval Office.

These shows fall on the heels of light hearted programming such as Craig Ferguson’s Join or Die, and a panel show hosted by comedians from a few years back. Seriously, I vividly remember watching a “I Love The 90’s” style show that was funny as hell, but cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. I dare you to find it among the list of History’s past programming.

Night Class premiers Thursday, February 25th at 11:30 PM PST.

It’s been and interesting few days for one of the Gods of hip hop. Kanye West released his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo in an incredible event last Thursday.

Kanye had his Yeezy Season 3 fashion show release at Madison Square Garden, where he also performed the new album. A few days later, he performed two songs on Saturday Night Live.

The album was initially streamed live on the music service Tidal, where it was met with tremendous technical difficulties. The record was soon available elsewhere, like Kanye’s official webpage. BUT, Kanye is a fickle beast. He, only a few days later, came out saying that the only way to get The Life of Pablo, would be on Tidal. (Pro Tip: You could potentially find the album on Torrent sites).

The Life of Pablo, is 18 tracks of pure Kanye. The lyrics, as usual, are deep and have multiple meanings. My personal favorites are Wave (at one time the title track of the album), 30 hours and Fade. Fade is going to be remixed from here til 2017. Adding a dembow beat to Fade will be incredible.

The whole release was punctuated by Kanye’s drunken Twitter rant on Sunday. He had gone on to say he was $55 Million in debt, and asked Mark Zuckerberg to invest in “Kanye Ideas”. His twitter stream then devolved into dissing publications for not giving it high enough scores on their reviews. He called out Pitchfork and other “white” publications and told them to not “comment on black music” anymore. Seriously, go to Kanye’s Twitter, its incredible.

Regardless of the controversy, this album is all the Fire Emoji.

It features other artists such as Frank Ocean, Rihanna, Andre 3000, Chance The Rapper, Chris Brown, and more.

The only (legitimate) method of getting The Life of Pablo is on Tidal. It will eventually be released on other platforms, but for now you can get a free month trial to give it a listen.

Join Derek, and Shane as they discuss Firewatch (in an in-depth, spoilery manner).

Today Ubisoft that there will be no Assassin’s Creed titles coming out in 2016.

In a very short, and albeit to the point, blog post the French game publisher said in so many words that they know the games have faltered.

Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback.

Those are the words of a studio that knows where they went wrong, and hopefully how to fix the problems.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate was a much improved experience over the prior years Unity. Most likely Syndicate was already too far into development to push back when the buggy as hell Unity hit store shelves. If you don’t recall, or don’t listen to Geekscape Games, Unity was full of problems. It remained unfixed for a few months.

The backlash from the community on the shoddy product that was Unity obviously made Ubisoft step back and refocus on what they were doing. It will be refreshing to see what a year off will do for what is my favorite game franchise. Hopefully they bring back the “modern” timeline. Check out the full press release below:

It’s an exciting time for Assassin’s Creed.

We’re only a few months removed from the debut of Jacob and Evie Frye, the stars of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. We’re proud of the talented team in Quebec City, and all of our studios around that world that took part in bringing the Victorian London adventures of our twin Assassins to life. We truly hope you enjoy playing Assassin’s Creed Syndicate as much as our studios enjoyed making it.

Also, we recently unveiled the first images of Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender in action as our lead Assassin in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie that hits theaters on December 21, 2016. Having already visited the set, we can’t begin to describe how surreal and exciting it is to walk the real-world halls of Abstergo, or see the intricate replicas of Assassin weaponry. We have an outstanding cast and crew that want to honor the rich lore of Assassin’s Creed and bring a fresh perspective to the ongoing battle between Assassins and Templars that’s fit for the big screen.

This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.

We’ll have more to share on all of the above soon. In the meantime, we want to say thank you to our millions of fans around the world for your continued support.

Steve Jobs Blu-ray 3D

This week on Monday Music we have a nice treat for all the geeks out there. Disney has teamed up with record producer Rick Rubin to create a Star Wars inspired compilation album, and what we have seen so far is outstanding.

Head Space features a trove of well known electronic music producers. Most of you will recognize artists like Flying Lotus and Röyksopp right off the bat, but I can tell you that the entire group of people involved are some of the best. Head Space get’s inspiration and elements from all of the Star Wars films. C-3PO’s Plights features samples of the droid lamenting existence, as well as blaster shots from the movies. Baauer’s Cantina Boys gets really dirty with some classic samples you will immediately recognize.

What is very interesting to note is the Rick Rubin/A-Trak Re-Work of the song Jabba Flow from The Force Awakens. The original artist, Shag Kava, is actually J.J. Abrams and Lin-Manuel Miranda!

You will not be disappointed with this release. Check out the track list below.

1. C-3P0’s Plight – Kaskade

2. Help Me! – GTA

3. Force – TroyBoi

4. Cantina Boys – Baauer

5. Jabba Flow: Rick Rubin Re-Work (feat. A-Trak) – Shag Kava

6. R2 Knows (feat. Barry Drift) – Claude VonStroke

7. NR-G7 –  Rick Rubin

8. Ghomrassen – Bonobo

9. Bounty Hunters – Röyksopp

10. Sunset Over Manaan – ATTLAS

11. R2 Where R U? – Flying Lotus

12. Druid Caravan of Smoke – Shlohmo

13. EWOK PUMPP – Rustie

14. Scruffy-Looking Nerfherder – Galantis

15. Star Tripper – Breakbot

The album hits iTunes February 19th, and hits store shelves March 18th. Check out some of the songs below, an interview with Flying Lotus from Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, and a video of Röyksopp performing Bounty Hunters at their show in Oslo last December!

You’re probably already well aware (I mean, it’s not even Sunday yet and we’ve been seeing fantastic commercials releasing in droves including a fantastic Pokemon ad), but Super Bowl 50 is less than two days away!

If you’re anything like me (and if you’re reading Geekscape, you probably are, and I’m sorry)… you have little to no interest in the event. Unless there is booze, that is, and in that case I am VERY interested in it.

So, we at Geekscape have put together our Top 5 favorite alternatives to watching the big game!

5 – Blood Bowl

Blood Bowl Image

Blood Bowl is the Warhammer: Fantasy take on football itself. Set in the mythical land of Warhammer, it pits two players against each other in a turn based game of football. Each player chooses from a selection of fantasy races, naturally with their own advantages and disadvantages. Additionally, players can hire and level up non-fielded characters such as Cheerleaders, Assistant Coaches, and even Healers. All boost the statistics of the players on the field. The best part of the game, is where the actual BLOOD comes into play. It’s not just about moving the ball down the field, its about trying to injure or kill opposing players.

You can play Blood Bowl all old school (on the tabletop itself, painting up figures and sets). OR you can find a digital version of the game on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Google Play, Amazon Store and iOS.

For more information check out the Blood Bowl Fan League!

4 – Online Gaming (Rocket League, CS:GO, League of Legends)

Rockete League Image

Around major events like the Super Bowl and national holidays, the online servers for A LOT of games see their populations dwindle. The casual players get all wrapped up in the festivities, and all that’s left are the die hard players.

If you really want to test your skill in games like Rocket League or CS:GO, then there is no better time than this very Sunday. You can tell your friends and family that you’re practicing for the eSports league, and that they will be watching you play League of Legends on the big screen in a few years…. Hey, a Geek can dream about more than just cartoon ponies, can’t he?

3 – Sports Related Manga

Prince of Tennis Image

Much like the Rule 34 of the internet (my favorite rule, if you’re curious), if it exists, there is a Manga about it. Japanese manga are so ubiquitous that essentially everyone around is able to find something they’re interested in confined to a half-inch thick book.

From titles like Prince of Tennis, King Golf, Hikaru no Go, and Initial D, you are sure to find the book of your fancy.

Check out this list of The Top 50 Sports Related Manga’s from OtakuSmash and be amazed. I never would have dreamed I be interested in fishing manga!

2 – Kaiju Movie Marathon

Godzilla Kaiju Image

If you have no interest in watching a bunch of big guys run around a field and beat each other up for a few hours, then why don’t you watch a bunch of big guys in MONSTER SUITS run around and beat each other up for a few hours!

There are so many to choose from that you don’t even have to limit yourself to just Godzilla and friends! Get some buddies, fire up the Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Torrents (not Torrents) or if you’re a die hard Kaiju fan break out those antique VHS tapes.

For a lighthearted twist on the big monster movie genre, you can snag yourself some episodes of MST3K! Their personal twist on the Gamera films always leave me in stitches.

1 – ACTUALLY WATCH THE GAME!

watching football image

Didn’t see this one coming, did you? I know this may be counter intuitive to what this entire list is about, but actually watch the game! Get some of your friends together, get some bad food and alcohol and enjoy the damned festivities. Even if you’re like me and have ZERO interest in football, there is so much to offer.

The commercials alone should be enough to attract all the Geeks. We have plenty of hilarious commercials that will be the talk of the Twittersphere (or… Facebookverse?) come Monday, and you don’t want to be out of the loop. Keep an eye out for appearances from some internet famous (it’s a thing) people like The Texas Law Hawk and Giorgio Tsoukalos. We will also see plenty of Geeky ones too. The biggest (for us geeks) is the long-awaited Pokemon 20th Anniversary ad. Yeah, we all have already seen it, but seeing it on air is going to be exciting!

Aside from the commercials, of course there is also the legendary Half-Time show. Last years Katy Perry performance literally had me smiling from ear to ear (she always does), and for the last 11 years we’ve all been hoping for another wardrobe malfunction like we had back in 2004.

If you don’t have television, or are a cordcutter don’t fret! There are plenty of free, LEGAL, options to watch the big game. LifeHacker has compiled a giant list, but the easiest is snagging the CBS sports apps on your favorite streaming platform.

SO GEEKS! What are you going to be doing come Sunday? We’d love to hear what everyone has planned!

The post apocalyptic Zorro reboot film has just landed it’s director. In other news, there is a post apocalyptic Zorro reboot film in the works.

Sobini Films announced today, in a press release over at ComingSoon, that Gravity screenwriter Jonas Cuaron will be writing and directing the upcoming Zorro reboot.

Sobini Films’ CEO Mark Amin and  Lantica Media’s CEO Antonio Gennari had this to say:

When I saw Desierto, I was impressed with Jonás’s command of action and suspense, his great visual eye, and the strong performances he elicited from his actors. We are very fortunate to have Jonás on this film. His love of cinema is evident in his work and he is very talented in his ability to tell a compelling story. We look forward to seeing where his vision will take us.

If “post apocalyptic Zorro reboot film” sounds familiar to you then it does. As far back as 2013, 20th Century Fox was in the process of creating their own Zorro reboot. Tentatively titled Zorro: Reborn , it was set in a near future southern California. You may remember the pitch trailer that director Ricardo de Montreuil made as a proof of concept of the film. You can see that below.

There is no word if the above Zorro: Reborn pitch trailer has ANY barring on the upcoming reboot (currently titled Z).

The character of Zorro goes all the way back to 1919. Zorro is the masked identity of rich playboy Don Diego de la Vega. He would don a black mask, cape and brandish a sword. He was the protector of the common man, and was most likely a huge influence in the creation of Batman.

The character has been a point of contention for copyright holders, as the character himself is public domain.

Principle filming of begins this Summer. No release date has been announced.

The HIGHLY anticipated sequel to DICE’s 2008 smash hit has just received it’s own story trailer.

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst was first announced at E3 2013. It was met with uproarious praise from journalist and gamers a like. Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is a sort of reboot/re-imagining of the first title. Players take up the role of Faith, a “runner” living in a dystopian future much like that you would find in yourself in while watching Total Recall or iRobot. “Runner’s” are parkour courier who race across the rooftops of the city, delivering contraband and illegal messages. The game features a first person freerunning mechanic that was quite well received.

Enough vamping, time to check out the incredible story trailer!

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst comes out May 24th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Interested gamers can sign up for a beta of the game on the official website. The beta has no announced release date as of this writing.

The latest release in the DOOM series is shaping up to be quite the entry in the legendary franchise.

With a huge emphasis on single player (a trait that we will be seeing a lot more of in FPS titles in the future), DOOM aims to bring us back to the games roots. Intense blood, intense gore and intense horror.

Today, Bethesda and ID Software released the incredible Campaign Trailer AND we got ourselves a release date! Check out the trailer below!

Get a closer look at the adrenaline-pumping, single-player campaign in the latest trailer for DOOM – the all-new FPS from id Software arriving worldwide on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on Friday, May 13th. As the iconic DOOM Marine, you wake to learn that the Union Aerospace Corporation’s facility on Mars has been decimated and overrun by hordes of demons. Humanity’s survival rests in your hands – and your hands alone. Fight Like Hell.

In DOOM’s campaign, there is no taking cover or stopping to regenerate health as you beat back Hell’s raging demon hordes. Combine your arsenal of futuristic and iconic guns, upgrades, movement and an advanced melee system to knock down, slash, stomp, crush, and blow apart demons in creative and violent ways.

This gamer cannot be happier with how this title is coming together!

You can get your hands on DOOM on May 13th! Get it on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

We’re back after a brief hiatus, because really the only thing that came out was Kanye’s new track and by that time it was too late!

This week we’re bring our Editors favorite Canadian rapper, Drake, with his latest single. Summer Sixteen, just shows you that you can do anything when you get a Grammy nomination for a dis-track.

Last summer Drake and Meek Mills got into it, after Mills complained that Drake wasn’t promoting Mill’s new album, and accusing Drake of not writing his own tracks. What followed was a flurry of insults all penned by the Canadian. There were a few shots fired back and forth between the two, but in the end Mills had to bow out. This was of course only after getting destroyed by Drake, as well as starting a feud with 50 Cent.

Drakes newest single is viewed by some as “excessive”, but he’s been firing on all cylinders lately and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. He takes shots at the likes of Kanye, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Khaled and eve the president!

We’re only a few weeks away until Pride and Prejudice and Zombies hits theaters, and we are so freaking hype we can’t stand it!

Yes, a movie with a title that sounds like a six year old reciting his Christmas list has gotten these geeks amped. The more I read and see about the film, the more I think this is a chocolate peanutbutter situation.

Check out the violent, and T&A filled trailer below! I am an ass and leg man, and this trailer has got plenty of both!

The only downside of this trailer for me, is the out of place nu-metal cover of These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies hits theaters February 5th!

This week on Monday Music we get down low with Valentino Khan.

Granted, this song came out in March of last year but today we are gifted with this incredibly strange music video. I could NOT feature it this week.

Valentino Khan has been producing music since he was 16, but didn’t really appear on my radar until 2014 when he was signed to Skrillex’s record label, OWSLA. His electrohouse singles, and trap remixes always bring an incredible vibe.

The Deep Down Low music video is directed by Ian Pons Jewell, who is responsible for A LOT of EDM music videos. All of which have a very unique vibe.

Enough rambling, check out Deep Down Low’s music video below! Click through to the video for a chance to snag a free VIP version of the track!

If you find yourself up here with me in Alaska, then you can catch Valentino Khan LIVE at the Deep Down Low event during Spring Break!

This year is not starting off that well.

This morning the actor most known for his seminal role as Grizzly Adams, Dan Haggerty, has passed away this morning after a short battle with an aggressive form of cancer in his spine.

His manager, Terry Bomar, is quoted as saying:

He had cancer and had been fighting… and he had a great Thanksgiving and a great Christmas, and he died with his kids around him and people who love him. He had fought a long hard battle with cancer of the spine that was discovered in August of this year. He would light up any room he entered. He loved life, loved his family, loved his friends and fans. The last words I heard him say were ‘I love you’.

Haggerty is most known for his role as Grizzly Adams in the 1977 television series, and subsequent movies, of the same name. Most recently though he had picked up more roles, with two projects currently in post production.

Haggerty is survived by his children.

Today we are featuring David Bowie’s newest, and last music video.

If you’ve been living under a proverbial rock, then let me share some awful news. Music legend, David Bowie has passed away after a short battle with cancer.

Bowie had just recently released his 25th studio album, Blackstar on Janruary 8th. Just two days before his passing. And with that, the music video for his single Lazarus.

The video features Bowie in a hospital bed, film in an interesting 1:1 aspect ratio. It’s easy to speculate that this is his own personal eulogy.

The haunting melody perfectly accentuates the lyrics. Producer Tony Visconti, long time Bowie collaborator, has outdone himself.

Take a moment, and listen to a great mans goodbye.

Fresh outta Konami, and firing up his own company , video game legend Hideo Kojima will finally be accepting an award he is deserving of. No Konami lawyers getting in the way this time!

Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear franchise, will be the 21st member inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. Presenting the award to the game designer will be his new best bud, Guillermo del Toro.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences is thrilled to induct Hideo Kojima, world-renowned game creator and auteur, as the 21st member to its Hall of Fame. Kojima is recognized for the best-selling Metal Gear series, widely considered the father of the stealth game genre, and credited with innovating story-telling and cinematic presentation in video games at large. The Metal Gear Solid series has received numerous D.I.C.E. Awards nominations throughout the years.

The 2015 Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Kojima during the 19th D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony on Thursday, February 18, 2016, at the Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas by film director, screenwriter, producer and novelist Guillermo del Toro.

Kojima began his career in videogames in 1986 as a designer and planner for Konami’s MSX home computer division. He set the trend for stealth action games with Metal Gear and pushed the boundaries of video game storytelling, cinematic cut scenes, and mature content with Snatcher. In 1990, Kojima was involved in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which gave the player more abilities, such as crouching, crawling, distracting guards, and using radar –all further developing the stealth game genre. With the release of Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation in 1998, Kojima became a video game living legend internationally. The game was the first in the series to port a cinematic feel through 3D graphics and voice acting.

This is absolutely amazing news. After all the controversy with him and Konami, especially after the blockage at the recent Video Game Awards, it’s great to see Kojima finally making a public appearance and accepting an award that he rightfully deserves.

With his partner in the now defunct Silent Hills project, Guillermo del Toro, presenting the award speculation and rumors are already flying. Will they announce a new project? Will they announce something in regards to Silent Hills being revived? We will all have to wait and see.

This week on Monday Music we’re showing off the highly anticipated team up of two of EDM’s rising stars. Jauz and Marshmellow joined forces to give a funky jersey trap sounding twerk style remix of Duke Dumont’s Need U 100%. Take a listen below!

Both Jauz and Marshmellow have blown up recently making crazy unique new sounds, and getting a lot of attention for their remixes of popular songs. Jauz’s remix of Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz and Marshmellow’s remix of Where Are U Now are two of my favorite tunes to play out when DJing.

I feel ultimately that this collaboration was hyped way to much. Both artists, as well as some of the bigger names likes Skrillex, really talked this track up a lot. It’s GOOD, but it’s not the amazing, world ending banger fans were expecting. Still though, it’s free so give it a download. You can be sure I will be playing it out this weekend at the bar.

We’re getting a little bit weirder this week, and leaving the hood behind. This week we’re going to explore the odd genre called Vaporwave

You’ve probably have heard that one trippy song by Macintosh Plus. A pitch shifted, multi sampled, remixed version of Diana Ross’s Your Move. It has been blowing up recently, and has kind of become a “meme” in the YouTube Haiku community. But you may be asking yourself, “What the hell is Vaporwave?”.

When I first discovered Vaporwave, I was skeptical. It’s a genre, that I thought initially, was a parody genre. People ironically throwing in Japanese characters into their song titles, and the constant talk of “AESTHETIC”. But the more and more I explored the genre, and it’s countless subgenres, I began to fall in love with it.

The vibe, or A E S T H E T I C, the genre is trying to exude is an interesting one. A lot of the sounds you will hear are very pitch shifted down, and will be kind of droning. You will immediately get a kind of, nostalgic feeling, which is what a lot of the songs are trying for. The artists are trying to teleport you to a retro future, where the pinks and teals of the late 80’s and early 90’s are the only colors you will see as your walk an abandoned mall. There is a huge cross over with the trend of using outdated technology, as VHS and cassette tapes are the norm. Labels like Dream Catalogue have gone one step further, and instead of releasing albums on Vinyl have gone for the magnetic glory of cassette tapes. Granted it’s an inherently BAD medium for sound, as the frequencies on it favor the high side. Getting the latest vaporwave release on a little cassette just drive home the whole retro future vibe.

This week’s Monday Music focuses on t e l e p a t h’s newest release. Him/her/they are one of the juggernauts in the Vaporwave community, and have released some of the quintessential songs that define the genre.  This latest release is nothing new, but really shows you what you can expect from this quirky genre. Take a listen below to the full album, and be sure to check out t e l e p a t h on Band Camp.

Set ten years after Assassin’s Fist, Resurrection stars Alain Moussi (Suicide Squad, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Pacific Rim) as Nash himself. Mike Moh (Empire) and Christian Howard (The World’s End) return as Ryu and Ken.

This week on Monday Music, we’re going to the dirty south with Lil Wayne’s newest mixtape!

No Ceilings 2 came out a few weeks ago on Thanksgiving, but that was before I started writing these posts, SO HERE IT IS NOW!

Lil Wayne has really outdone himself this time around. No Ceilings 2, released on his own Young Money Entertainment, is a great progression from his previous release of No Ceilings. This time there were no track leaks, and when it hit on Datpiff it was met with positive reviews.

Wayne brings his own unique style to existing instrumentals. His version of Hotline Bling turns the Drake tune into a jailhouse love ballad.

The whole record has an extreme amount of sub bass, and each song really kicks you in the chest. My only complaint with the album is that sometimes, Wayne’s signature auto-tune vocals sound disjointed and overdone.

You can snag the entire No Ceilings 2 mixtape for free on Datpiff.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this Mixtape, what do you think of Lil Wayne’s covers?

At this years E3 the entire gaming community was stunned (well most of us were) when Square announced they were FINALLY releasing a remake of the legendary Final Fantasy VII. There were rumors going around for years (especially after the PS3 Tech Demo showing off FF7 assets was released), but we’re getting what we’ve been asking for!

Today, Sony released this trailer showing off in-game footage of the upcoming remake. Check it out for yourself!

First thing to notice, is that the game looks absolutely gorgeous! It’s like it could be a sequel to Advent Children for Christ sake!

The biggest take away from the in game footage, is that it looks as if they’re ditching the turn based/time based battle mechanics of the original, for an action RPG style from the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. That will undoubtedly cause a huge rift in the games die hard fans. I for one welcome the new battle system.

No release date has been announced, but you can be SURE you will find out here on Geekscape!

We we’re all patiently awaiting the release of the theatrical trailer for Batman V Superman to hit the airwaves during Jimmy Kimmel tonight. WELL the film’s official Facebook went and released it ahead of schedule. SO HERE IT IS!

We’re finally getting an idea of what we can expect as far as “plot”. After the synopsis leak from last month, we learned that Lex Luthor may be pitting the two heroes against each other. Now we have it!

The best part of this whole trailer? We’re getting to see Gal Gadot in action as Wonder Woman. I’m honestly more excited to see her performance over the titular characters duking it out.

Holy fucking hell Merry Christmas to us! The seminal cartoon series, Samurai Jack, is finally returning to TV and it’s getting a new home on Adult Swim. Check out the teaser trailer below.

https://youtu.be/yzIxLwVwtiQ

This news cannot get any better. Samurai Jack is one of the most legendary cartoons to come out of Cartoon Network. It has won countless awards, including 4 Primetime Emmy’s. It’s show’s creator, Genndy Tartakovsky, has created a masterpiece with the shows four seasons. The show relies heavily on sound and music design, as the titular hero rarely speaks. Tartakovsky is known for creating amazing backdrops for his characters. Almost every frame of Samurai Jack can easily find itself hung in any fine art gallery.

In a recent interview with TechTimes, Tartakovsky was quoted as saying:

I would love to finish the story of Samurai Jack. I feel like people are still kind of interested in it, and it’s nice that after all these years, people are still responding to it, like two generations down almost from it being on the air for the first time. I know the conclusion in my head now. I’ve worked it out, and so I’m trying to find what the perfect vehicle for that is.

The story did continue in comic form, in the Samurai Jack books from IDW. But there is just something about seeing the world Jack lives in move. There were plans for a movie, but after the lackluster performance of The Powerpuff Girls Movie , Cartoon Network decided not to fund the big screen adaptation.

I feel that Samurai Jack, is extremely well suited for the Adult Swim block. The show pushed the limits of the the censors over at Cartoon Network with it’s violence. Even as a younger kid, I knew the show would be more suited for an older audience. Now that the generation the grew up on Samurai Jack has grown, it will have no problem getting legs on Adult Swim.

The show is slated for a 2016 release, but nothing more specific has been announced.

If you’re not familiar with Tartakovsky’s work, I HIGHLY recommend the 2003 Clone Wars series he directed. It, at the time, was the canonical link that joined Episode II and Episode III of the Star Wars prequels. It really shows the style you can expect from Samurai Jack.
