Yesterday, Nintendo let loose that their newest RPG-IP would be announced today during their live Treehouse event. Everyone was wondering what it would be. Now we know. Check out the trailer for Ever Oasis.

Ever Oasis comes to us from Grezzo, the company responsible for some of our favorite 3DS games, like Flower Town and the Legend of Zelda games. Grezzo is ran by Koichi Ishi. Yeah THAT Koichi Ishi. The man responsible for producing Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy XI, The Secret of Mana series. The man who created chocobo’s and moogles. The MAN THAT CREATED THE FINAL FANTASY JOB SYSTEM! HE IS A RPG GOD!!!!

This man has pedigree, so we know Ever Oasis is going to come from a brilliant mind and direction. This game looks cute as hell, and reminds me of Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles.

No word on release date yet.

This game looks awesome as hell! Originally released on the PS Vita, Severed is coming to Nintendo consoles this summer! Check out the newest trailer below.

Take control of a one-armed warrior named Sasha, wielding a living sword on her journey through a nightmare world in search of her family. Swipe-based touch controls will let you solve puzzles, find secrets, and do battle with a host of disturbing monsters. As the journey goes on, you’ll unlock new abilities, ascend an RPG-style upgrade tree, and tease apart the mysteries of the dark fantasy universe Sasha finds herself in.

I am so intrigued with this game, and surprised I haven’t heard of it before. The art, the concept and gameplay all look top notch. I was getting mad Samurai Jack vibes from the trailer. This is going to be a day one pick up for me, FOR SURE!

Check out Severed on the Nintendo eShop this summer.

I never new I wanted something more than I want Trials of The Blood Dragon. It’s literally two things squished together that, on paper sounds dumb as hell, but once you see it moving. It’s incredible.

The over the top world of Blood Dragon and the top notch motorcycle racing of Trials.

They’ve left the realm of motorcycles to! We’ve got jet packs, moon cars and even parkour with pistols!

Trials of The Blood Dragon is out NOW on PC, PS4 and Xbox! GO DOWNLOAD IT! I am.

E3 this year is really blowing last years out of the water! Our first look at the fourth iteration of Dead Rising is here, and its got me super excited!

Thats right! Frank West is back, and with him so is the franchises normal wackiness that was missing in Dead Rising 3. I mean, we’ve got power armor. Electric go-karts. Candy Cane crossbows. FLAME THROWING TRICERATOPS!

Thanks to Project Scorpio, we can get our hands on these amazing titles for PC as well. NO NEED TO BUY AN XBOX ONE FOR ME!

Not much has been known about Detroit: Become Human since it’s “PS3 Tech-Demo” from way back in 2012. It appeared that it was going to be another “David Cage” game, mostly an interactive choose your own adventure movie.

Those assertions weren’t far off apparently, as the first ACTUAL trailer hit the web not to long ago. What surprised me personally, was how fucking cool this game looks.

Original announcements placed the player in the role of Kara, the subject of the PS3 Tech-Demo. A brand new off the line Android trying to survive in Detroit City. Now it looks like you’re taking the role of Android investigator Conner.

The sci-fi settings, the LA Noire like investigations/interrogations have got me PUMPED for this title.

I’ve never been a huge fan of David Cage games, but it looks like things are going to change for me.

No announcement on release date as of yet.

After a logo/trademarking move, it looks like we have full confirmation. Gwent, the fictional card game from The Witcher series is getting its own release. Check out the announcement trailer below.

When the leak first came out, and what the trailer kind of implies at the start, the consensus was that this was going to be an analogue release. So when the announcement came out today that it was going to be an Xbox One / PC title, excitement soared.

Gwent will be a free to play game (with inevitable microtransactions and expansions). It looks like CD Projekt Red wants to go after that Hearthstone money.

Check out the press release, and instructions how to sign up for the beta, below!

In GWENT, you’ll clash with your friends in fast-paced duels that combine bluffing, on-the-fly decision making and careful deck construction. The game is played over a best-of-three series of rounds, as players unleash their hand by slinging spells and diverse units with special abilities and use clever tricks to deceive their opponents.
Sign up for the Closed Beta here today!
GWENT will be available at release for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4, GWENT is a free to play game that puts you, not your cards, in the center of the action.

E3 2016 is coming out the gates with a huge bang. The Micrsoft Presser today has certainly shown improvements over last years lack luster event.

The most interesting thing to come out of today’s event is not the Xbox One Slim, but the announcement of Project Scorpio.

Scorpio is Microsoft’s version of the model refresh from Sony, Playstation 4.5/Project Neo.

Phil Spencer detailed the announcement, stating that Scorpio will bring true 4K graphics to the home market, with “6 Teraflops of power”. Now, the teraflop is an interesting way gauging the power of the new Xbox. Teraflops don’t always equal faster though. A Teraflop is the ability for a system to perform a trillion floating point operations a second. TL;DR more FLOPS, means more math can be done at once which usually equates to better graphic rendering, since all those shiny polygons are just maths. No word as to the actual CLOCK SPEED or the RAM, which should actually make for a better idea of performance. They probably don’t have a final spec’d out device ready. This upgrade will bring HD VR support as well.

Project Scorpio will also allow gamers to play the same games across all platforms, Xbox One, Windows 10 and Project Scorpio. Cross-platform play is also in the works.

We can expect to see more info at next year’s E3 as Microsoft isn’t planning on releasing Project Scorpio until 2017.

The latest in the Deus Ex series is really shaping up to blow the franchise out of the water.

The recent live action announcement trailer really invoked some powerful feelings. Reminiscent of the first two shorts from The Animatrix.

One of the devs from the upcoming Mankind Divided walks us through the newest element of the game, the city hub. The launching point of missions, interacting with NPC’s and character building. Check it out below.

Get your first glimpse at the city-hub of Prague in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, an expansive and dense location which will allow players to meet a variety of characters, take on side-quests, and explore indoor and outdoor areas. For the purpose of this demo, we activated infinite life, energy, and ammo.
In this section of the game, set in the poor district of the city, Adam Jensen wakes up after being caught in a devastating attack, allegedly perpetrated by augmented extremists, which is causing his augs to malfunction. He needs to see Vaclav Koller, an underground augmentation specialist, so that he can have a look at them and help him get back into shape.

I’m really excited for this iteration of the series. The segregation theme between augmented citizens and normal humans is one I find particularly fascinating.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided hits store shelves August 23rd on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Japanese actor turned singer, Win Morisaki, has just signed on to join the cast of the upcoming Steven Spielberg adaptation of Ready Player One.

Morisaki is a veteran of the Asian TV market. Guest starring on such shows as Kamen Rider W, Gokusen, and Gakko Ja Oshierarenai. He also has been in a myriad of Japanese films such as Gokusen: The Movie and The Movie Thriller Restaurant. He recently joined the pop band PrizmaX as the lead vocalist.

He is playing the role of Daito, a Japanese treasure hunter.

Ready Player One is set to hit theaters March 30th, 2018.

This is fabulous news!

After the phenomenal success of this years X-Files miniseries, Fox Executives have been in talks with the show’s creators to have another installment of the hit sci-fi show!

At a Fox TV press event today, Chairman Dana Walden was quoted as saying:

We have had conversations with Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show. Hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.

The next run of X-Files is planned for a 2017-2018 release. No word of when principle filming will begin.

EDM powerhouse Dillon Francis has just released the music video for his collab with NGHTMRE. Need You video has all of Dillon’s “take the piss” attitude and humor he is known for. Check it out below!

Dillon Francis made his mark on the EDM community with moombahton and moombahcore infused tracks like I.D.G.A.F.O.S.

I really appreciate his take on the stereotypical “mobile DJ” persona. Budget/ancient CD players, full of yourself attitude and going way to hard for a bunch of old people in a garden.

He has gone the whole “trap” scene as of late, but is bringing back what he is known for. Need You features producer NGHTMRE. His signature dark electronic growls and waves fit perfectly with Dillon’s signature vocal sampling.

You can listen to the full track, as well as snag yourself a copy right now! Check out Dillon Francis’ SoundCloud for all the links to purchase it on your favorite platform.

Briefly: We previously gathered all the leaked information for the upcoming Battlefield 1. DICE FINALLY got to the point on their live stream, and showed the launch trailer. Check it out below.

The live stream is still going on right now, so once more details have been released we will update this post!

Today the folks over at DICE are announcing the next entry in the Battlefield series, and being one of my favorite games this news actually prompted us to delay recording of The Geekscape Games Podcast by an entire day.

Right now on the Battlefield Twitch channel, the team working on the next in the series is going over the history of Battlefield. This is all leading up the world reveal of the next game, but that hasn’t stopped any potential leaks!

The first thing to leak was from Microsoft themselves! The Xbox Dashboard was advertising the stream today, and the image they used is apparently the key asset for the next game!

Battlefield 1 Xbox Leak
Battlefield 1 Xbox Leak

Instantly I thought of the rumors from way back in February that the game is planned to take place in WW1, and this was all but corroborated by Benjamin Counsins (DICE) on Twitter.

With the news all but broken, retailers started leaking images from their managers kits. A few of note are below.

Battlefield 1 Art DLC Leak (1)
Hellfighter DLC
Battlefield 1 Art DLC Leak (3)
Advertisments
Battlefield 1 Art DLC Leak (2)
Advertisements

The game WILL take place in ww1. The first DLC is most likely an homage to the 369th Infantry Group “Harlem Hellfighters”.

It’s really exciting to see a new era getting the Battlefield treatment. The “modern” era is getting a bit overdone, and seeing them go BACK in time as opposed to Call of Duty going FORWARD. This distinction between the two franchises is going to up the rivalry. I personally feel that the mechanics and uniqueness of the two are going to prove which is going to be the superior title.

The title is fucking stupid. Battlefield 1, is the FIFTH game in the “numbered” series, and will be the 12th overall release to carry the Battlefield title. This name reeks of the marketing department getting their grubby fingers on it.

If the advertisements from retailers is anything to go on, Battlefield 1 will hit stores October 18th.

We live in strange times. Strange times indeed.

Snowden is the stylized, “Hollywood” take on the Edward Snowden story. EX-CIA contractor who leaked documents detailing a global surveillance program perpetrated by the NSA. It was such a perverse invasion of privacy that it spurred countless investigations into the US Government, many of which are still going on today.

TL;DR NSA has your dick pics. Seriously.

Check out the trailer for Snowden.

I really don’t feel too “right” about this movie. Joseph Gordon Levitt does a TERRIBLE job impersonating Edward Snowden, and Zachary Quinto as Glenn Greenwald?

This is going to attempt to distill a very important story down into a 2 hour drama. Why all the sex? Why all the weird “hacking” graphics? I feel like director Oliver Stone was attempting to recreate the famous Hack The Gibson scene from Hackers.

https://youtu.be/8wXBe2jTdx4

It’s the Julian Assange story all over again.

Snowden hits theaters September 16th. Do yourself a favor and see Citizenfour first.

File this under, “odd but kinda makes sense”. Wesley Snipes and his Maandi Media DMM production company are joining forces with WWE Studios to bring fans a multi-picture deal.

The first in the agreement is the already announced Temple. Starring Snipes himself, Anne Heche, Dave Annable and WWE wrestler Seth Rollings, Temple is being co-produced by Gene Simmons. Yeah, THAT Gene Simmons.

In the Press Release Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios said:

We are always looking for the ideal talent to extend our brand and Wesley is the right combination of action movie star and savvy producer, We look forward to creating exciting new content with the perfect partner.

The second film under the new partnership is set to start production this year, but no word as to WHAT we can expect from that release. We can easily surmise that it’s going to be action packed (super action?). Snipes said in the release that he’s looking to have some fun with this one:

The action genre has been a very big and important part of my career. There is no better way to extend my love for dynamic action based entertainment than with a company like WWE, who have been entertaining fans for decades with incredible visuals and deliciously entertaining storylines. Maandi strives to create elevated multi-media content that appeals to all demographics worldwide – from childhood fan to feature film collaborators.  Wow, sooo cool!  We are all incredibly excited to share visions.

Temple is set to release sometime this year.

Be sure to keep an eye here on Geekscape, we’ll definitely be keeping you up to date on this awesome new partnership.

We’re a little under a month away from the release of the next in the X-Men franchise, and the hype machine is starting to hit the redline. Check out the final trailer for X-Men: Apocalupse

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

My only question; Why do mutants hate bridges so much? X-3 and now THIS!

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27th!

We’ve all been hearing the rumors about a potential product upgrade/refresh for the Playstation 4 (We talk about it at length on the Geekscape Games Podcast.). Speculation abound, we may have ourselves some more concrete information to go on.

Our friends over at Giant Bomb have said that multiple, reliable sources have come forwarded and provided documentation as to what actually IS the Playstation 4.5.

The product refresh is internally codenamed NEO (whats with all of the Matrix references over at Sony?), and will be an entire separate unit from your current PS4. This relieves MY fears that we are getting into “Sega 32x & CD” territory. No big box to slap your existing PS4 into. The “4.5” will still feature all AMD parts but all have received a boost. The 8 core CPU will now boast 2.1 GHz cores over the stock 1.6 GHz. The GPU is of a new unnamed architecture (rumored to be the new Polaris platform), and will have 36 CUs at 911 MHz over the 18 CUs at 800 MHz the current Playstation 4 has. (AUTHORS NOTE: It took me WAY to long to figure out what the hell a “CU” was. Basically it’s AMD’s way of referring to “cores”; Compute Units.) Lastly, it will have faster memory: 8 GB GDDR5 at 218 GB/s over the 178 GB/s we have now.

The Polaris architecture rumored to be the new GPU in the PS4.5
The Polaris architecture rumored to be the new GPU in the PS4.5

What does this mean? Harder, Faster, Stronger.

My biggest concern was that it could split the user base. I hate to use the same analogy twice (but I’m lazy), but let’s not relive the Sega 32x/CD era. Did you get your game for the Genesis or the 32x? Which game was the best version? What game is the developers best work? OR what is the game in their mind? Well apparently Sony has thought of that as well.

According to the same sources, Sony has given developers a laundry list of requirements for producing future titles.

Every game released after October of this year will have to have a PS4 and “NEO” mode. There cannot be any inherent advantages for playing the game on the NEO platform over the stock PS4. No exclusives. No bonuses. Nothing. The only inherent difference will be 1080P & 4K resolutions and increased framerates. They’re even requiring that Playstation VR to be on parity over both platforms. So existing PS4 owners can sleep safe in knowing that they will be getting the same experience content wise going forward. Bad news is that there isn’t any target for the higher spec’d system, so now real driving reason for current customers to upgrade.

No, your new Playstation won't be able to learn Kung-Fu.
No, your new Playstation won’t be able to learn Kung-Fu.

What I didn’t expect was the extra work developers will have to account for.

Cofounder of Kinda Funny, Colin Moriarty tweeted this earlier:

This is what worries me the most. That these new requirements are going to cripple/hinder development on the console and we will have another “PS3” on our hands. Difficult to develop for and expensive to produce for.

No word on price or release date has been given, but Giant Bomb’s sources say it will ship at $399. We can safely assume that if all games released AFTER October of this year will be required to have “NEO” support, then we can expect a fall release.

What do you think? Is this a waste of money and a flash in the pan from Sony OR will the PS4.5 push home console gaming to the next level? We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Netflix’s adaption of the cult favorite comic, Iron Fist, is getting another addition to the cast.

David Wenham (Lord of The Rings, 300) has just been cast as Harold Meachum.

Meachum was the business partner of Wendell Rand, Danny Rand/Iron Fist father. I don’t want to get into spoiler territory, so if you’re a fan of the books then you know exactly who Meachum is.

Iron Fist follows Danny Rand as he returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist. This is the fourth in a five series production. Marvel and Netflix joined forces to create four different shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage). All four universes will join up in the fifth series, The Defenders.

David Wenham joins the cast alongside: Finn Jones (Danny Rand/Iron Fist) and Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing).

Principle filming has yet to start. Iron Fist is set to air on Netflix sometime in 2017.

You probably didn’t expect to see Rick Astley on Geekscape, at least in a non “Rickroll” capacity that is. Well the internet meme legend has just released his newest single from his upcoming album 50. Check out Keep Singing below.

50 marks the singers first album in over 10 years, and Keep Singing is his first single in over five years. The album’s title represents Rick’s 50th birthday, as the singer is turning…well 50!

I’ve always liked Rick Astley, even before his Rickrolling rise to fame. When his last single, Lights Out, hit I was extremely impressed that he still has the chops he did all those years ago.

Keep Singing has soul, volume and bounce. It DESPERATELY needs a dance remix. Do yourself a favor and play the youtube video at 1.5X speed. You won’t regret it.

Rick Astley’s 50 hits store shelves June 17th! You can get your hands on the digital preorder’s right now!

We’ve been talking about the on screen adaptation for Robert Kirkman’s comic Outcast, for a while now. We’ve seen plenty of stills, and even a NYCC teaser. But now we get to lay our eyes on the season one teaser. Check it out below!

OUTCAST is based on the Skybound/Image comic title by creator Robert Kirkman and artist Paul Azaceta, and produced for CINEMAX by FOX International Studios (FIS). OUTCAST follows Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit), a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson (Philip Glenister), a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost.
Outcast hits TV June 3rd!

The fourth release in the Doom franchise is right around the corner, and the folks over at Id Software are really putting the hype train into full steam.

Their latest offering is this slick “live action” trailer. I say “live action” in quotes, because it’s really just an actor in power armor running around a green screen, BUT GOD DAMN if it doesn’t get me excited!

The future of gaming is here. This is literally, a big fucking deal.

Announced today on the official Xbox Blog. Chris Charla, the director of Xbox’s GDC presence, announced a myriad of things you can expect to see at this years Game Developers Conference. Arguably, the most important one is the Cross Network Play.

Cross-Network Play
First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.

Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players. We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.

This is EXTREMELY exciting news. The way Chris punctuated the statement is what everyone should be excited about. “…open invitiation for other networks to participate as well.” is a nice way of saying, “Hey Sony! Lets bury this shit and lets our gamer’s game!”. This isn’t the first time Microsoft has dabbled with cross platform play. If you remember way back in 2007, they attempted to bridge the Xbox 360 and PC market with their online shooter, Shadowrun. It failed miserably, mostly due to the fact that players on the PC had an inherent advantage over their controller wielding counter parts. Yes this go round their putting Windows 10 in the forefront, it’s the possibility that users on OTHER consoles can join in on the fun.

I hope that Sony will get on board with this, and developers will start patching their games! Getting the Xbox One and PS4 Destiny, The Division, Rocket League, etc. etc. together is going to be HUGE. HUGE!

Chris goes on to discuss their Indie Game support, as well as allowing their XNA framework an open source option for Xbox One.

We’re back with another Monday Music! This week we’re bringing you an amazing, pounding Tech House track from Tony H. Check out Set Me Free!

Set Me Free really blew me away when I heard it for the first time. I’ve worked with Tony H for the past few years, and he never ceases to amaze me with his music. The deep and vibrant baseline in this track really gets me pumped, and the vocals from Sophie are on point. This song could easily be used as the backdrop for an amazing summer road trip. If they ever remake Easy Rider, then this needs to be the theme song for the film.

Tony H is a DJ and producer from Panama, who now resides in probably the direct antithesis of Panama. Anchorage, Alaska.

He has been producing tracks for years, mostly focusing on House and the myriad of sub genres that go along with it. Late last year he started his own independent record label, Late Night Munchies personifies the Alaskan spirit and brings great musical minds from all over the planet together.

Nintendo is bringing a huge update to the Virtual Console platform for 3DS. Gamers will be able to play classic SNES titles as soon as today!

You can get your hands on Pilotwings, Super Mario World and F-Zero today! More titles will be released later this month, and even more early April.

The SNES on 3DS will feature a “pixel perfect” mode, which guarantees that games will play/display in their original formats. Staying true to the retro titles we know and love.

WE’RE GETTING A NEW PAPER MARIO!

Just announced in the Nintendo Direct is Paper Mario: Color Splash.

This time around Paper Mario and the gang head to a brand new far away island, but when they get there they find out it is losing its color!

Use color to bring life back to the island, and edit the world around you.

Paper Mario: Color Splash is set to release in 2016

We have a nice little Nintendo Direct going on right now over on Nintendo’s Twitch channel, and they started out the bat with some great Star Fox: Zero news.

The game will feature the classic branching path structure from the N64 and SNES releases. Miyamoto put off great emphasis that paths will really alter how the levels will play out.

They also announced that the Fox Amiibo will unlock the classic, SNES Arwing skin. It looks really cool, and I got chills seeing that old bird flying.

If you were ever worried that this game was going to be thin, then you’re in for a surprise. Miyamoto announced an additional game that will ship with the retail versions of Star Fox: Zero, Star Fox: Guard.

You take up the role of Slippy, protecting his Uncle’s (Grippy) mining operations on alien planets.

It is a unique twist on the Tower Defense genre, and it felt a lot like Sanctum. You will command 12 video cameras, and have to switch between them in order to defeat enemies.

Both Star Fox: Zero & Guard hit stores April 22nd, and can be purchased separately digitally.

File this under 100% pure nostalgia pleasing. Nickelodeon, the network that helped sculpt 90’s kids into the ironic hipsters that we are, is going back to it’s roots. They have green-lit a live action Legends of The Hidden Temple movie based off of the hit game show!

Production begins in March on the film. Unfortunately we aren’t going to be seeing the Purple Parrots failing to get across the water in the opening games. This is a high stakes action adventure movie based on the show. Three kids are after an ancient Mayan treasure as they embark on a journey into a…Mayan hidden temple.

The TV movie Legends of the Hidden Temple will follow three siblings who break away from a lackluster temple tour in a jungle, finding themselves immersed in a real-life mission comprised of obstacles that they must complete in order to escape alive. The TV movie will feature elements from the original game show including: Olmec, a talking head who knows the secrets behind the temple; The Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar, and silver snakes, among others.  Legends of the Hidden Temple is executive produced by Scott McAboy and Jessica Rhoades, and produced by Amy Sydorick. The TV movie is directed by Joe Menendez (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) and written by Jonny Umansky & Zach Hyatt, and Alex Reid.

This announcement is on the heels of a push for Nickelodeon to bring their 90’s programming to the 10’s.

I cannot wait to see this movie. Yeah it will be for a much younger audience, but Legends of The Hidden Temple was one of my favorite shows growing up. One thing I love about seeing properties from my youth redone, is getting all the different references to the original work.

No release date has been announced.
