The post apocalyptic Zorro reboot film has just landed it’s director. In other news, there is a post apocalyptic Zorro reboot film in the works.

Sobini Films announced today, in a press release over at ComingSoon, that Gravity screenwriter Jonas Cuaron will be writing and directing the upcoming Zorro reboot.

Sobini Films’ CEO Mark Amin and  Lantica Media’s CEO Antonio Gennari had this to say:

When I saw Desierto, I was impressed with Jonás’s command of action and suspense, his great visual eye, and the strong performances he elicited from his actors. We are very fortunate to have Jonás on this film. His love of cinema is evident in his work and he is very talented in his ability to tell a compelling story. We look forward to seeing where his vision will take us.

If “post apocalyptic Zorro reboot film” sounds familiar to you then it does. As far back as 2013, 20th Century Fox was in the process of creating their own Zorro reboot. Tentatively titled Zorro: Reborn , it was set in a near future southern California. You may remember the pitch trailer that director Ricardo de Montreuil made as a proof of concept of the film. You can see that below.

There is no word if the above Zorro: Reborn pitch trailer has ANY barring on the upcoming reboot (currently titled Z).

The character of Zorro goes all the way back to 1919. Zorro is the masked identity of rich playboy Don Diego de la Vega. He would don a black mask, cape and brandish a sword. He was the protector of the common man, and was most likely a huge influence in the creation of Batman.

The character has been a point of contention for copyright holders, as the character himself is public domain.

Principle filming of begins this Summer. No release date has been announced.

Pokemon.com has revealed some interesting details about the upcoming season of Pokemon X and Y out of Japan, much of which seems to hint at what the future may hold for upcoming iterations of the popular video game franchise.

In the latest news update, it was revealed that Zygarde, the hidden Legendary Pokemon that could only be found after the main story was completed in the Pokemon X & Y video game, will be getting a variety of new forms, (or “formes” as the cool trainers like to call them). More surprisingly however, is that Ash’s Greninja is also getting a physical change! Read up on the details from the official website below:

 

Zygarde Cell

Zygarde Cell: This stage has been identified as the single Cells that make up Zygarde. Cells do not possess any will or thought processes. They’re found scattered throughout the region. Since they can’t use any moves, researchers question whether they can even be called Pokémon!

Zygarde Core

Zygarde Core: At this stage, this aspect of Zygarde is little more than a part of the Pokémon’s brain. Unlike the Cells, the Cores are self-aware and can communicate with Cells and other Cores via telepathy. When a change occurs in the local region’s ecosystem, Cores have been known to take action.

Zygarde 10

Zygarde 10% Forme: Zygarde 10% is the Forme that the Zygarde Core takes when it gathers 10% of the Cells nearby. Capable of traveling over 60 mph (100 km/h), it defeats enemies with its sharp fangs and its incredible speed.

Zygarde 50

Zygarde 50% Forme: This Legendary Pokémon watches over and maintains the local ecosystem. Until recently, this was the only known Forme of Zygarde. In actuality, this Forme only has 50% of the Cells in its structure.

Zygarde Complete

Zygarde Complete Forme: This is the perfect Forme that Zygarde takes when the Core gathers 100% of the Cells. When the ecosystem is under threat, and the Core concludes that the 50% Forme will be unable to deal with it, the Core takes on the Complete Forme. Its power is said to be greater than that of the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal!

Ash-Greninja

Ash-Greninja: Plus, Ash’s Greninja takes on a mysterious new appearance in the latest season! Ash-Greninja is the form that Greninja takes when the bond between it and Ash is raised to the limit. The strength of their bond changes Greninja’s appearance, and it takes on the characteristic look of Ash’s attire. This phenomenon is also said to have happened just once several hundred years ago in the Kalos region, but it remains shrouded in mystery.

Those who follow Pokemon won’t be too surprised about Zygarde. While hidden legendaries receiving upgraded formes has been a thing ever since Deyoxs in Ruby/Sapphire, and has led to a third version starting with Platinum and Giratina, and it’s clear that this anime update is most likely leading to a Pokemon Z. Couple that with Zygarde’s low end stats compared to Xerneas and Yveltal, and we knew that something was up! Just not that the version we caught before was only 50% complete, (or that it can become a dog for some reason.)

Ash-Greninja is a completely different possibility entirely. With trainer customization being such a big deal in X & Y, does this mean a potential future version might let our Pokemon take up the appearance of our trainer if their affection his high enough? Or is this just a one off anime gimmick to help Ash’s Greninja stand out? We won’t know until a new game is eventually announced, so we’ll just have to throw out baseless speculation until then!

Nintendo had a large presence at this year’s Wondercon, with numerous games on display. Some of which had yet to be released, offering gamers their first chance to try out these upcoming titles. One such game was Puzzle and Dragons, the mobile game turned 3DS crossover, featuring both an original game mode, and a Super Mario Bros. themed campaign that trades mystical monsters for Goombas and Koopa Troopas. We tried out both modes to get the scoop on whether or not the Big N’s latest collaboration is worth checking out, and so far, we see reason to be excited.

Starting off by jumping into what I’m familiar with, the Super Mario Bros. mode was fairly straightforward. In both versions, the player must create a party that consists of different elements, then tackle dungeons while trying to line up matching colored gems to trigger attacks. If you have a teammate who’s color matches the gems, then they fire off an attack. Fail to finish off your opponent, and they get a chance to drain your ally’s HP. The key to success was to trigger combos, that caused falling gems to line up after your move, helping multiply your damage while allowing multiple party members to attack at once! It was a sight to see classic Mario enemies get taken down with a swarm of magic, but I rarely felt like I was in control. I couldn’t see what gems were above my stack, so these combos often felt completely random, taking away from any skill involved.

Surprisingly, the Mario mode felt pretty plain. With the demo consisting of nothing but selecting a level, (based on classic Mario stages,) beating the enemies and eventually winning, it felt like nothing more than a bonus mode. The standard mode however, felt much more fleshed out. Treated as a full RPG, complete with towns to explore, NPC’s to bother, and dungeons to crawl through, I felt myself wanting to discover more about this world. Replacing the familiar Mushroom Kingdom enemies with more mythical based creatures breathed new life into the exploration aspect, leaving me with a need to get deeper into the story, and witness how this puzzle turned RPG experience would turn out.

But alas, it wasn’t to be. It was a demo, after all! Needless to say, while I wish I felt like I had more control over the outcome of my battles, I’m excited about what the final product will offer.
