Let the celebration begin! Capcom’s classic RPG, Breath of Fire III, is coming to the North American PSN Store this month on a yet-to-be revealed date. The title, priced at US$9.99, will playable on PSP, PS Vita, and PlayStation TV. Breath of Fire III will be joining its successor, Breath of Fire IV, which has been in the Store for a long time now.

No further details were provided but this is more than enough to get me thoroughly hyped. Also, I am going to put this out there right now: My fairy village can beat up your fairy village.

Will you be downloading Breath of Fire III? Do you have fond memories of the game? Let us know in the comments!

The cult classic rhythm game is returning! After barely squeaking past it’s Kickstarter goals, the successor to Harmonix hit music title FINALLY get’s a release date. Check out the launch trailer below!

Amplitude is a reboot of the 2003 PlayStation 2 music game by Harmonix Music Systems, Inc. The developers that worked on the original game are back to bring Amplitude to current Sony consoles with high-fidelity visuals, new music, a sci-fi narrative, and more. Play cooperatively, or competitively on over 30 songs, only on PlayStation!

You can snag Amplitude on PS4 when it’s hits PSN January 5th!

Briefly: We’ve been waiting patiently since its reveal in September, and today we finally learned just when we’ll be able to check out Sony’s adaptation of Powers.

Powers is “follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals? Enter the men and women of the Powers Division, the only people brave enough to go up against the overpaid, commercialized, superhumans who glide through the sky imposing their power over the crowds below who both worship and fear them.”

It’s based on the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming series which I’ve heard nothing but good things about but haven’t actually read (I’ll give the ‘it’s on the list’ excuse), but I’ll watch anything with the fantastic Sharlto Copley in it, and here he plays one of our main characters, Christian Walker.

Sony revealed today (via the official Playstation blog) that the series will premiere its first three episodes on March 10th, with an additional episode coming every Tuesday until it closes its 10-episode first season. The pilot will be available to all (at least US, Sony hasn’t clarified international) PSN users for free, while Playstation Plus members will be able to watch the entire season.

Are you looking forward to the adaptation? What do you think of Playstation getting into original content? Sound out below!

If you haven’t downloaded Marvel Vs Capcom Origins, the two pack that includes the original Marvel Vs Capcom in addition to the mid 90’s classic, Marvel Super Heroes, now is the time.

Capcom-Unity announced at the end of today, the game would be pulled from the Playstation Network for purchase, with Xbox Live Arcade getting hit on December 31st. Following suit with other Marvel titles under Activision’s control, and even Capcom’s own Marvel Vs Capcom 3, which went out of production last year, it seems like games are getting hit pretty hard thanks to Marvel and Disney working towards reclaiming all of the super hero licenses.

Have you already picked up these classic fighters? If not, you better jump on it before it’s gone forever. Marvel Vs Capcom Origins is available now, (but not for long,) at $14.99.

Briefly: Back in September Sony announced that the first footage from this Winter’s Powers would debut at New York Comic-Con. Well, NYCC has arrived, and so has this bad-ass (and language heavy) footage.

I’ve not read the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming series (I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, so I’ll give the ‘it’s on the list’ excuse), but I’ll watch anything with the fantastic Sharlto Copley in it, and here he plays one of our main characters, Christian Walker.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be checking out Powers when it premieres later this year. As for watching the show, Sony says that “PlayStation platform owners will be able to download/stream individual episodes of POWERS.  Members of PlayStation Plus, the premium gaming membership, will be able to view the entire POWERS series for free and obtain exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.   Episode 1 of POWERS will be made free for everyone, regardless if they own a PlayStation or not.” Let’s just hope that expands beyond the United States.

Powers, an edgy dramatic series from Sony Pictures Television and inspired by the graphic novel series of the same name, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals? Enter the men and women of the Powers Division, the only people brave enough to go up against the overpaid, commercialized, superhumans who glide through the sky imposing their power over the crowds below who both worship and fear them.

Briefly: Following the latest casting announcement back in August, our first official look at Powers last week, Sony has debuted four new stills from the anticipated series, as well as some news as to when we’ll get to see more.

The series is set to premiere its first episode on Sony’s own Playstation Network this December… which is a weird but intriguing idea (and I probably won’t get it because I’m in Canada), and although I’m not overly familiar with the comic book series myself, it’s got a pretty stellar creative team coming together, so I’m definitely looking forward to checking it out.

Here’s the official synopsis. I’m sure glad that it’s edgy and dramatic (because in a post TDK world what else is there):

Honestly, from that synopsis alone, it sounds like a bad-ass story, and I may have to check out the comic before the show ever has a chance to premiere.

You can take a look at the four new images below, and head further south for all of the New York Comic-Con info. Are you looking forward to the series?

POWERS, PLAYSTATION’S FIRST ORIGINAL SERIES, TO DEBUT FIRST LOOK TRAILER AT NEW YORK COMIC CON

Panel and Autograph Signing Set for October 11

Susan Heyward, Noah Taylor, Olesya Rulin, Logan Browning and Eddie Izzard, along with executive producer and co-creator of the graphic novels, Brian Michael Bendis will debut the first footage of the highly anticipated series during their New York Comic Con panel on Saturday, October 11 at 3:15pm on the Empire Stage 1E. The panelists will also be autographing a limited edition New York Comic Con exclusive poster for fans at Autograph Table 14 at 1:15pm.

“From the minute he stepped onto the set Sharlto has invested every part of himself into this role. He adds layers and layers into Christian Walker. He is doing everything I hoped he would do, which is make the television version of this character unique and exciting,” said Bendis. “And Susan, my god! From her very first audition she has embodied the character of Deena Pilgrim. I think people are going to be completely sucked in by both of their performances and unique perspectives on this world that Charlie Huston has built.”

“No matter how many guns or super powers you throw into a TV show, no one is going to watch if they don’t give a damn about your main characters. Sharlto and Susan are my secret weapons, my super powers; dynamic talents that viewers will definitely give a damn about,” adds showrunner and writer, Charlie Huston.

During the “POWERS: Bringing the Graphic Novels to Life Exclusively on PlayStation” panel, fans will jump into the world of POWERS as the team shares their journey turning the beloved graphic novels into a live-action drama series for PlayStation. The award-winning graphic novels, written by Bendis and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming, have received critical-acclaim earning the Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2001. Bendis also won the Best Writer Eisner Award in 2002 and 2003. Powers the series is produced by Jinxworld and Circle of Confusion in association with Sony Pictures Television. Brian Michael Bendis, Charlie Huston, Remi Aubuchon, Michael Avon Oeming, and David Engel serve as executive producers.

Briefly: Following the latest casting announcement back in August, Sony (via USAToday) has given us our first official look at Powers in a still of stars Sharlto Copley’s Christian Walker and Susan Heyward’s Deena Pilgrim.

Deadline states that “Powers is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities and where all of those powers are just another catalyst for mayhem and murder. It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as Powers who glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire and who clash above cities in epic battle, oblivious to the mortals below.”

Are you looking forward to Powers? Who else would you like to see in the series? Check out the still below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: Sony dedicated an exorbitant amount of time to the announcement of Powers at their E3 Press Conference, and the series has just its first stars.

District 9 and Elysium star Shallot Copley will portray series star Christian Walker in his television debut, a man who formerly held powers of his own but is now a detective of superpower-related crimes. The Killing‘s Michelle Forbes will play the super-powered Retro-Girl.

Briefly: Sony dedicated an exorbitant amount of time to the announcement of Powers at their E3 Press Conference, and the series has just found its first director.

Briefly: With the launch of the Playstation 4 now less than a week away (arg… I still need to figure out where to line up), Sony has announced a few sweet goodies that will come with every PS4 console.

In North America, each unit will include a code for a 30 day trial of Playstation Plus (to get them hooked on the service from day one), a 30 day trial of Sony’s Music Unlimited service (seeing as the unit cannot play MP3’s…), and a voucher for $10 of Playstation Store credit (which is more than half way to another three months of Playstation Plus).

If you’re already a Playstation Plus subscriber, the 30 day trial won’t do anything for you, as it’s for new subscribers only. I’m also kind of hoping that Music Unlimited bombs, as that’s likely the only reason the console doesn’t support standard MP3 files. The $10 credit is pretty great though, I’m just hoping that day one owners are able to get into the store without issue!

What do you think of the goodies? Are you planning to pick up a PS4 on the 15th? Which launch game should I get!?

Tuesday is upon us, and so are the newest PSN releases! Take a look below at everything hitting PSN today, and be sure to let us know what you’re planning to pick up! Sure, we already know it’s Grand Theft Auto V, but Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver is looking pretty sweet too!

Briefly: All the way back in April, Sega revealed that a contemporary remake of Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse was in the works, and would be releasing this Summer.

Well, Summer’s almost over, and Castle of Illusion has arrived! The game is available now for Playstation 3, and will hit Xbox 360 and PC tomorrow (sorry Wii U owners, you’re we’re left out again). The game will cost a cool $14.99USD/£ 9.99/€14.99 for all platforms.

Take a look at the trailer for Castle of Illusion below, and let us know if you’ll be picking it up (you should be, this game ruled when I was a kid).

It’s been rumoured for some time, but it just became official: a newproper Ratchet and Clank title is in the works over at Insomniac.

Titled Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus, the PS3 exclusive will retail for $29.99, and hit stores (and PSN) this holiday season. Into the Nexus is a single player return to form for Ratchet and Clank, which should be very welcome after the last few (mediocre) multiplayer offerings.

Take a look at the game’s first trailer below, and let us know how excited you are to return to the world of Ratchet and Clank! I wonder if the PS4 will release before this game hits shelves?

Over at the official PlayStation Blog, Community Manager Paul Sullivan states that PSN will undergo maintenance this Tuesday, June 25th.

From 9:30AM PT (10:30AM MT / 11:30AM CT / 12:30 PM ET) until 4:00PM PT (5:00PM MT / 6:00PM CT / 7:00PM ET), PSN will be inaccessible. Good news is if you sign into PSN from now until before the maintenance starts, you’ll still be able to access online gaming as well as apps like Netflix.

It’s not explained in the blog post if you have to remain signed in to PSN in order to access online play and apps so to be on the safe side, I would suggest signing in a little before start time and stay signed in if you want to do anything during the maintenance period.

Since the PS3 4.45 firmware fiasco last week, this could also be Sony prepping for the fix being released on June 27th.

After Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate was announced a few months back, fans of the series such as myself were curious about what exactly would make this new version worth picking up. After all, two versions have already been released since October of last year, why would we want to invest again? After walking through Tecmo’s E3 booth, it was apparent that three new fighters would be a great start. In addition to the return of Leon and Ein who debuted in DOA 2, Momiji and Rachel from Ninja Gaiden make their debut alongside Jacky Bryant from the Virtua Fighter series. While they may be able to hold their own in the worlds of demon slaying and tournament fighting, how will they fare in DOATEC’s newest fighting competition? I tried each one to find out.

Momiji

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Momiji

As the first newcomer announced, Momiji looks like she would fit right in with Kasumi and Ayane in the kunoichi department. This apprentice of Hayabusa has never had a chance to show off her hand to hand skills before now, and after finishing my matches with her, I’m happy to say that she’s a blast to play. Momiji has many fast hitting attacks like you’d expect from one of the ninja characters, but seemed to be much more hard hitting. Borrowing some floaty looking techniques that are usually seen from characters like Hayate, she tends to give up a small amount of speed in exchange for some powerful and surprising combo ending attacks. That was the beauty of playing with Momiji. When it looked like her strings were done, the most painful part would follow up to blast unsuspecting opponents. So far, it looks like she’s living up to the expectations of the other kunoichi characters as a formidable, yet easy to play as fighter.

Rachel

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Rachel

Like Momiji, Rachel is usually seen with a weapon in hand. With her trademark hammer out of the picture, this fiend hunter has a lot to prove when it comes to hand to hand fighting. While using Rachel, I definitely got a Tina vibe from her. A powerful, yet slower character, she relied on short, hard hitting combos to inflict damage on anyone unlucky enough to go against her. While I wasn’t able to test out her grapples, her ability to grab opponents out of the air mid combo is a trait usually reserved for the wrestler type fighters. It’s good to see her strength is being put to good use! Easily the most straightforward of the three characters I tried, the Ninja Gaiden mainstay feels right at home with the heavies of the game.

Jacky

Dead or Alive 5 Jacky

While twin sister Sarah was already throwing down in the original DOA5, it’s no surprise that Jacky wouldn’t be too far behind. A Virtua Fighter mainstay, the Bryant brother specializes in Jeet Kun Do, mostly relying on his speed to catch opponents off guard. It’s obvious that Jacky’s style wouldn’t carry over from Virtua Fighter exactly, especially since the mechanics and button layout are different, but like the other guest characters, his style is replicated pretty well. Mixing fast high and low combos are the name of Jacky’s game, and opponents are going to have to telegraph his moves in order to stand a chance. While he’s the most complex of the three new fighters, he also came off so far as the most rewarding. Jacky was always my favorite in Virtua Fighter, so figuring out how to pull off some of my favorite combos in a DOA game with him was a reward all in itself.

Would I say that these three fighters are enough to justify buying the game all over again? That depends on how much you want to stay up to date with the community. If I had already bought DOA 5, I’d likely wait for a price drop, but considering I never got around to it, these new players might be enough to get me to jump back into the ring when Ultimate is released later this year. Until then, I’ll be counting the days until I can really dig in to what these three have to offer.

Dead or Alive Ultimate is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 3rd, with the free to play Core Fighters version coming to the PSN at the same time.

2011  saw the release of Payday: The Heist. A surprise hit from Overkill Software and Sony Entertainment, it puts players in the role of high profile thief’s. Missions range from your normal run of the mill bank robbery to breaking VIP’s out of jail. The game plays a lot like Left 4 Dead (There was even a L4D crossover) but with Police and SWAT instead of zombies. You can get additional points for hand cuffing bank managers and civilizations and destroying video evidence.

The game was surprisingly fun and very difficult. Waiting at key locations for drills and saws to cut through doors added a level of urgency. Recently announced from Sony was the much wanted sequel, dropping “The Heist” from the title, check out the new gameplay trailer for Payday 2

You can get your hands on Payday 2 for Steam, PSN and XBLA this August!

Hot on the heels of Capcom’s announcement of Ducktales Remastered, Sega has revealed their own contemporary remake of a classic platformer.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse first released for the Sega Genesis on November 20th, 1990. The game received universal acclaim, and was by far one of the console’s most beloved titles until the release of Sonic The Hedgehog in 1991.

Rebuilt from the ground up, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse features an awesome new look, and many of the original developers are back to work on the reimagining! The game will hit PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 this Summer! Check out some screenshots and the announcement trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Journey (which was just nominated for a Grammy),  Papo & Yo, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater are my must-haves. There are also a few Vita titles on there, which remind me of the terrible, terrible time that I owned a Vita.

Have fun, happy holidays, and hopefully you at least pick up Journey (seriously, it’s amazing).

Gamers occupy an amazing time, our passion is evolving from the waste of time that once was a game of pac-man, to giant franchises and opuses like Halo. Games are taking the next step.

The hyper stylized, wonderfully emotional and powerful MASTERPIECE of a game, Journey, has just been nominated for a Grammy! I can understand your amazement, “A GAME?! WIN A GRAMMY?!!?!?!”, what once was just a dream of musical producers of Jet Set Radio is now the possible future for Journey and the games composer Austin Wintory!

Journey is nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, and is up against some real Juggernauts. Tintin, The Artist, Dark Knight Rises, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Hugo are all competing against this magnificent piece of art.

Some of you may be saying, “Whats Journey, and why should I care?”, well let me educate you.

Journey is a PSN downloadable game, where players take up the role of an anonymous and silent protagonist. There is NO dialogue at all in this game, and the entire narrative is up for interpretation to the player. The only kind of feedback you get is the incredible soundtrack that is programmed perfectly. The background music is constantly changing and reacting to what is happening on screen. Take a peak at my personal favorite level in the game to get an idea of what this is all about.

Lets cross our fingers and hopefully Journey will make musical history.

Okami is absolutely phenomenal. Sadly, even six years after release, almost nobody has played it. I sincerely hope that things are different this time around, now that word of mouth has hopefully spread. I’ve never heard of anyone picking the title up and not instantly falling in love with it.

In Okami, you control Amaterasu, goddess of the sun on her quest to restore colour to the land. The game plays similar to a Zelda style adventure, with plenty of action and exploring in a beautiful world. As you can see from the screenshots, the art style is simply amazing, and this is something further enhanced by this new release.

You’ll play as Amaterasu, goddess of the sun throughout the game.

The game first released for the Playstation 2 in 2006: I still remember asking everyone that I knew if they had played it, and only getting back confused looks as it was a title few people had even heard of. Developer Clover Studio (who also created Viewtiful Joe) was shut down a few months after the initial release, probably due to Okami’s poor sales.

‘Okami HD’ is freaking gorgeous.

The game would later get a well envisioned rereleased on Nintendo’s Wii, which took the very original combat of the game and paired it perfectly with the Wii Remote. In June Capcom announced another rerelease of Okami, this time in full 1080P and supporting the Playstation Move. I can’t tell you how excited I was at this announcement. I’ve played through the Wii version plenty of times, but Okami always deserved the HD treatment.

The HD edition nets you the entire game in full HD. It features Trophy support for those that care to gather them, and also has full Playstation Move support to help you guide the Celestial Brush. I can’t reiterate enough: I absolutely love this game. Okami HD will cost you $20, but it’s well worth every penny! Grab it on PSN right NOW!

I’ve been rather torn on the Playstation Store for the past few years. On one hand, there’s some great content inside, and Playstation Plus is one of the best deals in gaming. On the other hand, you’re very unlikely to be able to find any of that content due to the way the store works.

an aged photo, but the store looks largely the same at this point.

There’s almost nothing featured on the front page in the current store. Searching is nearly useless, as when searching for a specific title, you’ll often have to sort through dozens and dozens of preview videos and add-on DLC before you’ll actually get what you’re looking for. Download management is non-existent, and the manner in which to download previous purchases is painstaking at best.

But in all that negativity, comes a positive: Sony has announced that the store is getting a redesign, and it will launch on October 23rd (or October 17th in Europe)!

Eurogamer states that the current tiled look is all but gone, instead replaced with a more elegant Metro styled interface. Instead of tiles leading to more tiles, leading to more tiles, selecting “Games” will lead you too a much easier to follow list of options. Filtering by price (!), genre, rating, and other options are also included.

That sorry excuse for a search menu is gone too, replaced with what is said to be a very usable replacement. Spelling mistakes and abbreviations are all okay, and the search is said to get smarter the more people use it.

The entire store is also HTML5, so it should be very fast, and very easy for Sony to update on their end!

It may be sad, but I’m excited. How about you?

The Walking Dead Episode 3: Long Road Ahead – PC, PSN, XBLA

Telltale Games decided to spring this one on us at the last second with the announcement on Monday. Not to say that I am mad about that, it’s just unexpected to not announce the release date two or more weeks in advance. I’m sure Long Road Ahead will continue the intense pace and more gut-wrenching story moments like episode 2 brought us. After all the stats Telltale Games has shown about the choices people made in previous episodes, I am curious if people will start to change the way they play in order to screw with those stats or continue to play honestly.

After amassing a pile of plastic toys, I threw in the towel for music games after Rock Band 2. Much in the way that the Call of Duty series has felt stagnant, the Rock Band franchise needed to inject something fresh, innovative even. Well, what Harmonix delivers in Rock Band Blitz is a little of both.

Right from the start, it seems like Harmonix went back to their roots of music genre games with the stylistic similarities to their previous games Frequency and Amplitude, more so on the later. I found myself uncomfortable with the controls at first, using the default setup of triggers/bumpers moving you from track to track with the analog sticks or d-pad/face buttons to hit left or right notes. The options to change the controls saved me by letting me choose a more comfortable button layout. Using the triggers to hit the notes and the analog sticks to move between tracks. The control style is labeled ‘Freakish’, but I find it to be quite normal despite what Harmonix thinks.

After playing all 25 included songs, something still felt off. No matter how hard I tried, it never seemed like I was getting the score I should have got, even with power-ups active for that song. It wasn’t until I picked the pinball power-up that I realized that I was doing this all wrong. The OCD in me wanted to hit all the notes on all the tracks. When I tried focusing on the pinball power-up when activated, I managed to keep the pinball in play for at least 10-15 seconds every time I came across the power-up in the song. My score soared above my greatest expectations.

So, in order to get the best score you have to actively think what power-ups to combine and use on each and every song. That is a lot of strategizing and research to do! Once I got over the fact that it’s all about the power-ups, I started to have a little more fun. It doesn’t hurt to have a ton of songs bought or imported from previous Rock Band games, except Rock Band 3, to hoard a lot of coins as well as to experiment to the best combos. I have yet to find the perfect companion to my wonderful pinball power-up but with a little more time, or someone finding out before me, I will find some friends that will play well with my lovely pinball.

Score Wars is a way to challenge your friends and strangers to a certain song to get bonus blitz points and coins. Only having Facebook linked to the Rock Band Blitz gives you the option to pick just what song you want to challenge people with. Not giving the freedom to do this in-game is a missed opportunity for many to troll people with the horrible songs that you actually paid for, though Harmonix would get that last laugh since you actually bought that horrendous song. We all have one in our Rock Band collection, mine is that Miranda Cosgrove song. Hey! It was free, all right?

Rock Band Blitz has enough here to make me have faith in the franchise again. Finding a way to get me to play all the old songs I have in my library as well as buy new ones all without using those evil plastic space-sucking instruments is an accomplishment in itself. To actually have fun playing a Rock Band game again, that is simply wonderful.

With every new release of a Madden title, one can’t help but think how it can possibly be different from the last. With $60 a pop, it’s only fair that it crosses your mind. Any debate involving this frame of thinking should be laid to rest now, because Madden is about to have a breakout year.

The number of things I like about Madden 13 far outweighs the bad. Since the release of the Kinect, I’ve been waiting for an already established sports franchise to adopt the Kinect’s functionality. Voicing commands works well, and the prompt at the bottom of the screen does not distract from gameplay. Still, veteran players may find that old habits die hard.

Connected Careers?……Are we still talking about Madden?

The big thing this year is Connected Careers. Connected Careers is embodiment of NFL Superstar, Franchise, and Online Franchise. These game modes are no longer separate, but instead combined as one. For example, you and your friends were probably in an online franchise at one point or another. In Connected Careers, you and your friends can be in an online franchise taking the role of players instead of coach. You can have an all-QB league, all-RB league, or an all-WR league. Different options appear depending on what role you can pick. As a coach or player, you can demand release, retire, and accomplish the overall goal of entering the Hall of Fame.

The return of fake news stories, an overhaul of college football drafting make Connected Careers different for every league, in every season.

Believe it or not, Connected Careers injects RPG elements into your franchise. Gamers will have the opportunity to level-up attributes of existing players, or create a new player with selected attributes.

The whole process may sound confusing at first, but Connected Careers is probably the best thing to happen to the Madden franchise to date.

Infinity Engine

The Infinity Engine is one of the first things you’ll notice about Madden 13 and will change the way you play. Players will stumble and react to every bump the they get. Those who like playing Running Back will now have to avoid their own blockers if they want to hit stride. The only gripe I have about this engine are the increase of roughing the QB penalty. If your pass rusher is lying on the ground after the QB throws the pass and barely touches the QB while getting up, you can expect a flag.

Madden Ultimate Team & Gridiron Club

MUT makes a return with a layout easy to understand to those who are familiar with the mode. The most exciting part about this year’s MUT mode are the reward packs. This time around, gamers will receive reward packs or cards based on what you accomplished in past EA NFL installments. Don’t worry, you’ll receive rewards for just playing past Madden installments and arcade NFL titles.

Gamers can also manage MUT and Connected Careers via the Madden NFL Gridiron Club. Available online and on your console, the Gridiron Club is free and provides new content, Madden NFL Moments, Madden On-Demand, and roster updates. The Gridiron Club contains modes we’re already familiar with and some that are new.

Closing Comments

EA has released an innovated sports title. Numerous features, returning and new, should bump Madden 13 to the top of next week’s shopping list for any football fan. Madden’s new engine and game modes should be incentive enough, but Madden 13 goes beyond that and provides a fresh take on the NFL.

Madden NFL 2013 is set to release August 28, 2012.

You read that right baby! Pyschonauts, the classic adventure game from Tim Schafer will be out for download on the PSN! From the PSBlog post:

Psychonauts was Double Fine‘s first game, and it came out for the PlayStation 2 way back in 2005. We love it a lot. It’s the story of a gifted young psychic cadet who must delve deep into dangerous minds and put a stop to a sinister conspiracy. And on August 28th, you will be able to download it to your PlayStation 3 as a PlayStation 2 Classic.

If you never played Psychonauts, you’re in for a treat! If you played it before, why not buy it again, just for old time’s sake? Ha ha! Tell a friend or two or a hundred.

This is pretty big fucking news, like on the same level as Pyschonauts being released on the steam network!

So fire up the PS3’s and whip out dem credit cards, August 28th baby!

Retro/Grade ends up winning the award for “I didn’t know that was possible.” It actually had me thinking back to an old episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air where Will Smith had the idea for a book called ‘Celebrity Houses…At Night!” Both ideas are insane and shouldn’t work at all. Somehow, the folks over at 24 Caret Games managed to mash together a shoot-em-up and a rhythm game and have it actually work better than I expected.

Retro/Grade has you jump in the role of Rick Rocket who has to restore the space-time continuum before the whole universe is destroyed by the temporal anomaly. The only way you can restore the balance is to play in reverse. Essentially, you are undoing everything that was already played out before you take control. The rhythm part of the equation comes into play in that you have to time your button presses to your shots that are collected as you go in reverse. While doing this, you need to avoid the enemies attacks that appear behind as well as in front of you at times.

Using a crazy neon color scheme, it can be hard to keep track of everything, especially the higher you go in the six difficulty levels. I had a hard time in pro mode due to the colors blending in with the things I was suppose to avoid thus losing track of the shots I was suppose to collect. I didn’t have a PS3 guitar controller to test out but with dexterity and speed you need in order to go back and forth on the note lines reminded me how bad my reaction times are lately. The electro-pop music is charming and I was never in full head-bobbing motion while trying to keep my multiplier up, although I could just use my limited meter to reverse time and correct my screw-ups.

The only thing wrong with this elaborate mix-up of game genres is that there is not enough to keep you engaged past the ten campaign levels. There’s a challenge mode but that just rehashes the same levels with a specific objective for you to do. Even the music seems to sound the same after awhile. Taking a chance seemed to payoff for 24 Caret Games in creating Retro/Grade, it just left me wanting more of its goodness.
