Briefly: Machete Kills is finally just a month away from theatres, and Open Road Films has just debuted a new batch of stills and an awesome new one-sheet for the anticipated sequel.

The new stills give us a much better look at the secondary characters of the film, and even include a nice shot of Carlos Estévez as the president of the United States. The new one-sheet simply bleeds awesome, and certainly acts an an homage to grindhouse flicks of the past.

Take a look at all the new images below, and let us know what you think! Machete Kills hits theatres on October 11th!

In MACHETE KILLS, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

Briefly: Following the new poster and behind the scenes video released just yesterday, AMC has released a quick, 15-second long teaser for the upcoming premiere of The Walking Dead.

The teaser shows a batch of our favourite survivors, with someone (whose voice I don’t quite recognize) asking for help in the background.

Take a look at the quick teaser below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the premiere! Looking for more The Walking Dead? Why not take a class on the subject?

The Walking Dead premieres on October 13th!

Briefly: Well, I wasn’t expecting to see this today.

Columbia Pictures has just released the first trailer for the highly anticipated remake of 1987’s Robocop. The remake stars The Killing lead Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy, who is, well, a cop who is fatally injured and is then turned into a robot.

I wasn’t really expecting too much from this remake, but seeing this trailer definitely raises my hope for the picture. I didn’t think a new Robocop could be cool, but Joel Kinnaman looks bad-ass in the role. Then again, the new Total Recall looked pretty fantastic too… and we all know how that one turned out (bad).

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to share your thoughts on the upcoming remake! Robocop hits theatres on February 7th!

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Briefly: Following the release of American Horror Story: Coven‘s key art and synopsis earlier this week, FX has debut another brief, creepy teaser for the upcoming third season of the popular series.

This marks the fifth teaser for Coven, none of which likely reference anything in the season itself (much like last year’s Asylum teasers). They are however, all very brief, and all creepy as hell.

Take a look at the teaser, titled Coffin below, and let us know what you think! American Horror Story: Coven premieres on October 9th!

http://youtu.be/mTLaOZU_gck

American Horror Story: Coven tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

Briefly: Ubisoft has just released a cool 14-minute gameplay video for what may just be my most anticipated game of the year, Watch Dogs.

The video gives us a neat sneak peek into some of the awesome multiplayer action that Watch Dogs has in store for us. I was mainly looking forward to the game’s single-player campaign, but the multiplayer here looks seriously awesome.

Take a look at the new video below, and let us know if you’ll be picking up the game! You’ll get your chance to take over Chicago on November 19th. Watch Dogs is set for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.

In Watch_Dogs, players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago’s central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. Aiden will be able to tap into the city’s omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control systems such as traffic lights or public transportation to stop a chase, and more. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.

Briefly: Alfonso Caurón’s Children of Men has remained one of the most impressive films that I have ever seen, ever since my first viewing back in 2006. From the fantastic performances, to the incredible sound design, and of course the breathtaking world and cinematography, Children of Men is a movie that I’ve introduced to dozens, all of which have walked away as amazed as I was all those years ago.

Now, Caurón’s back… and this time he’s taking his story to space.

Gravity hits theatres on October 4th, and has been one of my most anticipated films since I saw the first teaser trailer. Today, a full trailer for the film has been released, and as expected, it’s impressive as hell.

Watch the new trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to Gravity.

Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Briefly: With just over one month to go until The Walking Dead returns on AMC, the show’s marketing push has just been turned up a notch.

Today, the network debuted a new behind-the-scenes video, which features The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman giving a tour of one of the show’s many sets. AMC has also released a new piece of key art for the season, which spotlights Rick standing all alone near a broken fence. As we’ve seen from the already released trailer, the walkers are bound to get in at some point.

Take a look at the new video and artwork below, and let us know if you’re excited! The Walking Dead returns on October 13th!

Briefly: We’ve known for some time that Microsoft’s Xbox One would be launching sometime in November. Today, Microsoft announced just which day the launch will occur.

The Xbox One will hit 13 countries, including North America, on November 22nd. That, of course, is just one week after the launch of Sony’s Playstation 4.

The full list of launch countries consists of: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand.

Microsoft has also revealed that the final build of the Xbox One will feature an improved CPU speed. The 1.6GHZ CPU has been bumped to 1.75GHZ, which should amount to a near 10% performance increase.

I can only afford one console this November, and I’ve chosen to get in line for the PS4 on November 15th. That being said, I won’t lie to myself and pretend that I won’t end up with an Xbox One at some point too! Which console will you be picking up first? What launch games are you most looking forward to? Sound out below!

Briefly: It’s finally here, folks!

Lion Forge Comics is a company that we mention often around these parts. Sure, Jonathan is writing one of the newly-announced NBC reboots that everyone is talking about (Miami Vice, to be specific), but all of us at Geekscape simply believe that Lion Forge is a unique, forward thinking publisher that has a very bright future ahead of it. Plus, who doesn’t want to read a Saved By The Bell book?

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, a multitude of original IPs were revealed by the company. One of the more talked-about titles features some real star power, as MMA fighter and B.A. Baracus himself Rampage Jackson acts as the main protagonist.

If you visited our booth during the convention, you may have seen us giving away hundreds of print copies of the Street Soldier one-shot. If you missed out, now’s your chance to read it digitally!

Lion Forge has partnered with iVerse Media to distribute Rampage Jackson: Street Soldier on their proprietary Comics Plus application. The book (as well as the rest of Lion Forge’s ever-expanding catalogue), will be available on Android and iOS, and will also be readable on your computer.

Rampage Jackson: Street Soldier follows the adventures of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as he gains powers from a meteorite and decides to use them for good. When good people end up in bad situations, Rampage has no problem getting ugly to set things right! Part one of the one-shot is available here for a cool $1.99, and look for part two to release later this month!

If you’re looking for more from Rampage Jackson, be sure to watch Jonathan’s interview with him from SDCC!

Ain’t It Cool News is one of the first geek-centric websites that I ever frequented. Harry Knowles is a hilarious, knowledgeable, incredibly dedicated soul, and I want nothing more than to see this Kickstarter be successful.

Last year, Harry launched a webseries, fittingly titled Ain’t It Cool with Harry Knowles. The series took what fans (and I) love most about the site, and brought it into an entirely new medium. If you somehow missed out on the series, I’d recommend that you head here, and watch it in its entirety. Don’t have time for the whole season? A handy highlight reel has been released to get you hooked. Watch it below, and read on for more info.

Now, Harry wants to make a second season of Ain’t It Cool with Harry Knowles, and KLRU (an Austin subsidiary of PBS) even wants to air it. Harry, however, needs our help to make it happen.

The Kickstarter campaign’s goal is a cool $100,000, and it’s currently sitting at 61% with $61,601 from 465 backers. It’s certainly not a small goal, but its a necessary one, as the $100,000 will help secure the studio for at least another year, plus expand it to support a live audience (you read that right)!

Plenty of guests, including Wes Craven, Danny Boyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Campbell, Fede Alvarez, Jane Levy and Tony Danza, have already signed up for season two, and many, many more will guest before the season concludes. You know that you want to see those interviews.

So what can you do to help? Well, there are currently less than two days left in the campaign, and it’s still got a ways to go. Backing the project would be #1, and there are plenty of awesome rewards up for grabs if you do. T-shirts, DVD’s, movies from Harry’s own collection, or you could even be a guest on the show and have lunch with the crew (plus plenty of other tiers). If you can’t back the project, share it with your friends! Word of mouth is the best way to ensure that the show gets a second season at this point, so do what you can, and I’m sure that Harry’s campaign will end fully funded.

Watch the Kickstarter video for Ain’t It Cool with Harry Knowles below, and let us know if you’ll be backing this one!

Briefly: Following the impressive sizzle reel that debuted at this year’s Comic-Con, The CW has debuted the first official trailer for Arrow‘s second season.

I guess I should hurry up and finish season one, huh? The trailer actually looks pretty awesome, and the premiere is just over a month away!

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’re excited! Arrow premieres on October 9th!

Briefly: Paramount has just debuted the very first teaser poster for the next chapter of the terrible extremely successful Transformers franchise, and with it, the official title has been revealed.

Transformers: Age of Extinction is the name, and as before, it blasts its way into theatres on June 27th, 2014.

Transformers: Age of Extinction stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing, T.J. Miller, Han Geng, Titus Welliver, and plenty of others! Take a look at the poster below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Following the latest creepy teaser for American Horror Story‘s upcoming third season, FX today debuted some key art, plus a first synopsis for Coven!

I was a huge fan of the first two seasons of AHS, and love that each consecutive year of the show is a self contained story (though I’d love to jump back into the murder house). I really can’t wait to see what Coven brings to the table, and if it can hold its own again season two’s Asylum!

Take a look at both the first poster and first synopsis below, and let us know if you’re really excited (like I am). American Horror Story: Coven premieres on October 9th!

American Horror Story: Coven tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Briefly: All the way back in April, Sega revealed that a contemporary remake of Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse was in the works, and would be releasing this Summer.

Well, Summer’s almost over, and Castle of Illusion has arrived! The game is available now for Playstation 3, and will hit Xbox 360 and PC tomorrow (sorry Wii U owners, you’re we’re left out again). The game will cost a cool $14.99USD/£ 9.99/€14.99 for all platforms.

Take a look at the trailer for Castle of Illusion below, and let us know if you’ll be picking it up (you should be, this game ruled when I was a kid).

Briefly: It’s been some time since we’ve seen any new marketing come from the highly anticipated The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. A tie-in companion book titled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Annual 2014 has just been released, and it features some cool promotional images for the film that we haven’t seen yet.

Briefly: Anime legend and Studio Ghibli cofounder Hayao Miyazaki has just announced his retirement.

Miyazaki’s latest film, the controversial historical fantasy The Wind Rises, will also be his last. The feature is currently competing at the annual Venice Film Festival, where the news of Miyazaki’s retirement was announced.

Ghibli president Koju Hoshino declined to answer questions about the announcement. A press conference in Tokyo has been set for sometime next week, as  “He [Miyazaki] wants to say goodbye to all of you. ”

It’s sad news, but it had to happen sometime. Miyazaki has crafted some of the most beautiful pictures that the world has ever seen, and he’s more than earned a good, long rest.

Thanks for the memories, Hayao.

Briefly: I didn’t even know this existed, but my plans for tonight have just been set.

Last year, Capcom released a very special (and very expensive) 25th anniversary Street Fighter set that included a plethora of Street Fighter games, anime films, and soundtracks, plus a feature-length documentary titled I Am Street Fighter. The well received documentary has never been made available outside that set… until now.

Capcom has generously just added I Am Street Fighter to their official YouTube channel.

The documentary explores the history of the prominent and beloved series, and is sure to please both casual fighting fans and Street Fighter die-hards alike (right Juan Carlos?).

Watch I Am Street Fighter below, and let us know if you enjoy it!

Briefly: Just last week, it was rumoured (and then confirmed) that Bradley Cooper was in talks to voice Rocket Raccoon in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Today, it was revealed that the actor has officially signed on for the role.

The first footage of the character was shown at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and again at D23. The footage, of course, came without a voiceover as nobody had been confirmed for the role. Sadly, I still haven’t seen the clip.

Cooper joins Karen Gillan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Lee Pace, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Glenn Close, Djimon Hounsou, and probably Vin Diesel too (as well as plenty of others)! Let us know your thoughts on the casting below! Guardians of the Galaxy hits theatres on August 1st, 2014!

Briefly: All the way back in January of this year, we featured a very intriguing Kickstarter project by our pal Jon Schnepp.

If you were a comic book fan, and more than a few years old in the mid-to-late 1990′s, you probably remember hearing about a little film called Superman Lives. The feature was set to be directed by (then arguably at his most popular) Tim Burton, written by Kevin Smith, and starring Nicolas Cage.

Production got to the point where filming was about to begin… and then it was gone. There have been plenty of different stories as to why, but in all honesty, nobody really knows.

Sure, it would have been weird (have you seen the leaked costume test), but that’s not to say it wouldn’t have been good. So what happened?

That’s what Jon Schnepp wanted to find out. The Kickstarter was an absolute sensation, and would eventually earn $115,110 of its $98,000 goal.

Now, the documentary is in production, and today, the first teaser trailer was released. Take a look at it below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the feature! The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?  looks fantastic, and will release next Summer!

Briefly: League of Legends fans, you’re going to love this.

You probably remember the fantastic Skyrim fan film, Into the Void, that Machinima debuted earlier this month, right? Well they’re at it again, and this time the’ve released two incredible projects based on the ever popular (though somehow I’ve still never played it) League of Legends.

Both videos come from George and Harry Kirby, the very same geeks who crafted an impressive Dragon Ball Z live action short earlier this year. First up, on Machinima Prime is League of Legends: Blind Ambition, which delves into the past of Lee Sin, the blind monk. You’ll learn how he was blinded, watch him battle the deadly assassin Katarina, and much, much more. Take a look at Blind Ambition below, and read on for the next video!

http://youtu.be/k8UdPiZaP2U

Next up, on Machinima Realm, is League of Legends: Shadowfall, a three-part miniseries that “follows the lore of Shen and Zed, two brothers training to become ninja warriors, whose sibling rivalry turns deadly when Zed embraces the shadow powers in order to overcome his brother.” Take a look at all three episodes below, and let us know what you think!

Machinima is certainly producing some great content these days. I can’t wait to see what comes next! Be sure to let us know what you thought of these shorts!

Briefly: Is anyone else beyond excited for Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix? Besides the stupid title, of course?

Somehow, I’ve never played a Kingdom Hearts title. I heard nothing but praise for the series, but the first game seemed to sell out and get really expensive, really fast, and there was no way that I was going to play the sequel without experiencing the first chapter.

On September 10th, I’ll finally get my chance. The compilation consists of HD versions of Kingdom Hears Final MixKingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, and an entirely cinematic version of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. The compilation launches for a cool $39.99, which sounds like a great deal for this set of acclaimed games.

Check out a new gameplay trailer for Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix below, and let us know if you’ll be picking it up!

Briefly: I felt pretty iffy about Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate when it was first announced. A sidescrolling, hand-held only spinoff of the franchise to be released on the same day as its console brethren felt like a simple cash-grab, and a way to monetize those without a home console.

How wrong I was. Blackgate looks bad-ass.

A new trailer takes us through Blackgate‘s plot (which sadly sounds nearly identical to Arkham Asylum), and gives us a good look into the gameplay. I’m not sure if the cutscenes shown are directly from the game, or created just for the marketing, but I seriously hope they’re in the final product as they look wonderful.

Take a look at the short trailer below, and let us know what you think! Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate hits 3DS and PS Vita on October 25th! Maybe this will finally give me a reason to dust off the ol’ Sony handheld.

Briefly: Can Lego Marvel Super Heroes just come out already?

Traveller’s Tales has just released a short new trailer for the game, featuring none other than Stan Lee himself. I didn’t think I could be any more excited for the title, but seeing Stan swinging around simple makes me want the even more.

Seriously, this game looks awesome. All of the previous Lego titles have been an absolute blast, but throw Traveller’s Tales tried-and-true style, humour, and gameplay into a title that spans the entire Marvel universe, and we could have the very best Lego game yet.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! The game is set to release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this Fall!

http://youtu.be/jsT7FhnNVwQ

Briefly: The latest star to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just been revealed.

It’s Lincoln‘s James Spader, and he’ll appear in The Avengers: Age of Ultron as Ultron himself.

Spader was an excellent addition to last year’s Spielberg period drama, and looks simply fantastic in NBC’s upcoming series The Blacklist. Do you think he has what it takes to pull off Ultron? Anyone else you’d rather see in the role? Sound out below!

Spader, of course, will be joining the yet-uncast Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as newcomers to the Avengers sequel. Anyone else you’d like to see in the film?

Briefly: We’re finally just a few weeks away from the release of Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V, and the developer has just debuted the official trailer for the game.

In the short (just one minute long) video, we get to see plenty of Los Santos (which looks pretty gorgeous), plenty of explosions, and we also learn just what brought our three protagonists together again. It’s a great trailer, though I don’t know if I could even be more excited for the game at this point.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know which console you’ll be picking up the game on! Grand Theft Auto V hits stores on September 17th!

Briefly: Before today, I’d never heard of Pokémon Fusion, the fan-created website that allows users to choose two, completely different Pokémon and mash them together into some sort of new, unholy creature.

Apparently, there’s also a huge following of fanart created around the sensation. While the Pokémon Fusion site features cute, unassuming GBC/GBA/NDS style sprites of the new beings, the fanart can be, quite literally, the stuff of nightmares (though some of it is just plain awesome).

Take a look at a gallery of Pokémon Fusion fanart found on Reddit below, and you’ll see what I mean!

Pretty great, huh? Have you partaken in Pokémon Fusion?

Briefly: So Matt Damon may not be playing Jason Bourne again, and he’s definitely not Robin (apparently), but he has just joined the cast of another anticipated film.

Damon has joined Christopher Nolan’s mysterious The Dark Knight Rises follow-up, Interstellar. As with every other role in the film, it’s unknown just who Damon will portray, but he’s said to only be shooting on Interstellar for two weeks, so it’s likely a small role.

Plot details for the project are still scarce, but Interstellar is said to be “a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding”. Sounds good to me.

Are you excited for the project? How about Damon’s casting? Interstellar hits theatres on November 7th, 2014!

We usually feature cool geeky projects and films in our ‘Crowdfund This’ column, but this campaign is simply too heartfelt and important to ignore.

Brad Carter is a Los Angeles based actor, artist, stand-up comedian, and guitarist. His name may sound familiar, as Brad’s been somewhat of an internet sensation for the past few months. His story has been featured on countless news outlets, and was even shown on the Today Show.

Brad has a disease called “Essential Tremor”. He’s had brain surgery twice in the past few months, and is going to need even more in the near future. All he wants to do is create a studio album before he can no longer play guitar, and he needs our help to do it.

Take a look at Brad’s Kickstarter video below, and read on for more info.

Heartbreaking, isn’t it?

As you learned in the video, Brad is looking to raise a minimum of $45,000. Here’s the breakdown of the costs associated with his album:

-Producer fee – $2500 x 10 Songs = $25,000
-Studio Time- $300 per day x 20 days = $6,000
-Mixing – $500 per song = $5,000
-Mastering= $1,200
-CD Production= $1,100
-Recording Total = Approximately $38,500

-Then we add in: Kickstarter Fees (5%), Amazon Fees (5%), and team support!

Let’s make it happen. There are plenty of awesome rewards up for grabs, including copies of the album, t-shirts, producer credits, and even private live shows and skateboards signed by Tony Hawk! Brad sounds like an amazing guy, and it would be absolutely incredible to see him able to make his album before it’s too late. If you can’t back, please share this one with your friends!

Brad’s campaign is currently 45% funded, with $20,391 of its $45,000 goal. There’s two weeks left to back, which is plenty of time to see Brad succeed.

Let us know if you’re planning to be a backer on this one!

Briefly: November is going to be expensive.

In addition to a new console, a Wii U price drop, and plenty of Wii U release dates, Nintendo today also announced the release date for the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

The game (along with the less-exciting, but probably still fun Mario Party: Island Tour) will launch on November 22nd for $39.99.

That means you only have a couple more months to replay A Link to the Past. You’re picking this one up, right?
