Briefly: Just one day after its release date was revealed, Bungie has debuted a brand-new, gorgeous trailer for Destiny.

The game looks absolutely breathtaking, and hits stores worldwide on September 9th, 2014. Watch the new trailer below, watch it again, and then let us know what you think. We’ll have more info on the game as soon as it’s release!

http://youtu.be/bGYp4-vhKq8

Briefly: We’ve barely begun The Wolf Among Us, and The Walking Dead: Season Two hasn’t even started, but Telltale Games has just revealed two new projects that are coming down the pipeline.

First, remember that Game of Thrones game that was rumoured late last month? The developer has just confirmed the title with IGN. No info about the game has been revealed at this time, but Telltale states that it will function “similar to other Telltale games” and feature “big battles” done “in a Telltale way.”

Excited?

Next up, at tonight’s VGX awards the company revealed Tales from the Borderlands, a new episodic series set in the Borderlands universe. Details in the project were scarce, but the game is said to include both new and classic Borderlands characters. Take a look at the announcement trailer below.

http://youtu.be/RPUKNDB82UQ

The more Telltale games that I can play, the better! I guess I need to check out the Borderlands games first though, don’t I? How do you feel about the newly-announced games?

Briefly: During tonight’s VGX awards, Nintendo revealed some long awaited news about the excellent-looking Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

First up: Cranky Kong is a playable character, and he looks pretty cool. The live demo showed how the different Kongs can team up to take down enemies together. The game (of course) features local co-op, which has to lead to some aggravating, frustratingly good times.

Reggie Fils-Aime also announced the oft-delayed release date for the title, which will hit stores on February 21st, 2014.

Take a look at the newest demo below, and let us know if you’ll be picking this one up!

Briefly: Bungie’s next, highly anticipated title, Destiny, just got its worldwide release date.

The game will release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows on September 9th, 2014. The beta for those who have pre-ordered the game will begin this Summer (first for Playstation players).

The game looks absolutely incredible, and is one that I cannot wait to play. I usually don’t pre-order games, but getting to try this one as soon as possible is definitely something that I need to do.

Here’s the full text from Bungie’s blog post:

Destiny has always represented a new beginning for our team. It was born from brave possibilities. We dreamed of a renewed and independent Bungie. We found partners willing to bet big on some crazy new ideas with us.

We first shared the design pillars of Destiny less than one year ago. We promised to redefine what players should expect from a Bungie game. We said we wanted to change the way people play games together. We set our bar high. For us, Destiny represents a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Since then, Destiny has continued to reveal its promise. Every new build brings us closer to our original vision. With those goals in sight, we intend to use every moment from now until the release of the game to ensure that Destiny lives up to your expectations, and our own.

Today, in partnership with Activision, we are proud to announce that the worldwide launch of Destiny will happen on September 9th. Accordingly, the Destiny Beta will kick off in the summer of 2014, available first on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

The early support and enthusiasm for Destiny has been inspiring and humbling. We believe this is the right decision for our game, our studio, and our passionate community. Thank you for coming along with us on this adventure.

See you starside.

Briefly: When Disney purchased Lucasfilm in its entirety late last year, the Indiana Jones property was still somewhat up in the air. Disney owned it, but until now Paramount held the rights to distribute the franchise. Rights for future titles have now moved to Disney in what had to have been a huge deal.

Paramount will continue to distribute and market the first four films in the series, but Disney is now open (and likely planning) to create further titles in the franchise. Paramount will also receive royalties on any Indiana Jones films made by Disney.

So, since we all loved The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so much, what do you want to see in the next, inevitable Indiana Jones flick? Sound out below!

Briefly: The Netflix Original Lillyhammer is just a week away from premiering its second season on December 13th (in its entirety on Netflix of course, ready and waiting for a binge-watch), and I just came to realize that I still haven’t seen the first season!

After checking out the first trailer for season two, the series is definitely on my watch list.

Lilyhammer follows former gangster Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano (Van Zandt) as he enters the federal witness protection program trading the mean streets of New York for the icy fjords of Norway, forging a new life among the locals of Lillehammer. Season two of the one-hour series continues with Frank living under the alias of Johnny Henriksen, a successful nightclub owner and father of two. As if life couldn’t get more complicated than balancing fatherhood with running a criminal operation, everything Frank cares for is threatened when his former mob associates find out he is still alive.

Take a look at the trailer below, and if you’ve already seen the show, let me know how it is! I’m off to start season one!

Briefly: Telltale just launched an update on The Wolf Among Us via their official blog, revealing the first screenshots from the upcoming second episode, Smoke and Mirrors, and givings us a better idea of when we’ll actually get to play it. Sadly, it won’t be this year.

Here’s what the developer had to say regarding the release:

We wanted to thank everyone for playing the first chapter in The Wolf Among Us, and ask for your patience as the team works very hard this month to finalize what is shaping up to be another episode full of surprises. We’re anticipating another update on its ETA for release very soon after the holidays, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue this series with all of you.

Hopefully this means we’ll be seeing the episode in January, but we’ll be sure to fill you in as we learn more. For now, take a look at the first screenshots below (featuring Jack, of beanstalk fame, and the ‘Pudding and Pie’ nightclub), and let us know what you think! Haven’t played the game? Check out my spoiler-free review here, and pick it up!

Briefly: I loved Bates Motel. The first season of the A&E series was creepy as hell, with absolutely phenomenal performances from its main cast, and a plot that kept me guessing (and gasping) until the very end.

As such, I cannot wait for season two, which just received its first two teasers this morning.

Take a look at the creepy videos below (albeit not as creepy as last year’s myriad of promos), and let us know what you think! Bates Motel will return to A&E this March!

Briefly: Assassin’s Creed: Pirates just hit iOS and Android, and while I haven’t had a chance to try the game out yet, I sure can’t wait to.

The title focusses on the naval combat that was an absolute blast in previous Assassin’s Creed titles, and of course, makes it portable. In the game, players will explore the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy as Alonzo Batilla, a young and ambitious captain. You’ll be tasked to manage your crew, upgrade your ship, recruit new crew members and engage in massive real-time naval battles to become the most feared pirate in the Caribbean and claim La Buse’s renowned treasure. Along the way you’ll cross paths with Assassins and Templars, as well as famous buccaneers including Blackbeard, Bellamy, and Hornigold.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? Take a look at the launch trailer below, and let us know what you think! You can grab the game on iOS here, and Android here! Happy sailing!

Briefly: We couldn’t be more excited for Telltale to launch the second season of The Walking Dead adventure game. Last year’s season was our favourite title of the year (and it was a great year for gaming), and it’s still an experience that we recommend often and talk about frequently.

We knew that the second season would premiere sometime in December, but we now may know just what day that is.

According to the official Steam page for the title, the PC version will launch on Tuesday, December 17th:

Screen Shot 2013-12-05 at 9.38.24 PM

It’s likely that, if this date is correct, we’ll see it on other platforms that day too: it’s PSN update Tuesday as well, so the title likely won’t have that slight delay like The Wolf Among Us did.

Now, nothing is official until it’s official, but we’ll be sure to update you on this one as we learn more. Rewatch the game’s first trailer below, and be sure to let us know just how excited you are for this one! Also, how freaking incredible is it that The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead will be running at the same time?

Briefly: Well this is a nice surprise!

The Square-Enix classic (Squaresoft at the time) Final Fantasy VIII has just been released on Steam. I’m really excited for this, as it’s one of the only PS1-era Final Fantasy titles that I missed out on, and I hear that it’s absolutely excellent.

Here’s the game’s synopsis if you’ve forgotten (it has been years, after all):

It is a time of war. Galbadia, a Global Superpower, has declared war on Dollet, a country whose training academy is home to two personalities: the hot-headed Seifer and the ‘lone wolf’, Squall Leonhart. Both are equally at conflict with each other as their country is with Galbadia; to others, Squall appears lacking in team spirit, while Seifer lacks the discipline of his rival. However, a chance encounter with the free-spirited Rinoa Heartilly turns Squall’s universe upside down; having thrived on discipline, Squall find the carefree Rinoa fascinating. He also begins to dream that he is Laguna Loire, a Galbadian army soldier…

Meanwhile, a sorceress manipulates the most powerful men in Galbadia.
Will Squall and his party succeed in defeating this maniacal sorceress and saving their world?
What part does the mysterious Laguna play? Only you can decide what happens next, as the greatest Role Playing Adventure of all time returns…

Take a look at the launch trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be reliving this classic. You can grab the game from Steam here.

Briefly: Sony’s Gran Turismo 6 finally launches tomorrow (at least it wasn’t as long a wait as Gran Turismo 5), and the publisher has released the game’s gorgeous opening movie.

The title is one of the last (or maybe the last, not including The Last of Us DLC) must-have exclusive for the PS3, and I can’t wait to jump back into the driver’s seat. Sure, I picked up Need For Speed: Rivals for my PS4, and as much fun as it is (a lot), it’s about as far away from a simulation as you could get.

The opening video is gorgeous, and shows off some great behind-the-scenes footage of the game’s creation. Take a look at it below, and let us know if you’ll be picking the game up!

Briefly: They’ve been teasing it all week, and here it is, folks! The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2!

Are there too many villains? How does the new suit look in motion? Does Electro still look dumb? Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd!

Did you catch that shot of Vulture’s wings and Doc Ock’s arms in the trailer? Think they’ll be making an appearance too?

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Briefly: The tragic death of Paul Walker last week continues to ripple throughout the world. Friends, family, and fans everywhere continue to mourn for the lost star, many only learning now of Walker’s many generous endeavours.

Universal announced today that Fast and Furious 7 has been put on an indefinite hold as the company decides what to do with the franchise (and as the cast and crew come to terms with the situation). The studio has also launched an emotional tribute video on the official Fast and Furious YouTube channel, which has garnered over 400,000 views in just a few hours.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Briefly: The premiere episode of Telltale’s excellent The Wolf Among Us just hit iOS this evening, and to celebrate, the developer has launched an awesome new behind-the-scenes look at the game.

The video takes us deeper into the world of Fabletown and Bigby Wolf, and definitely raises my excitement for the next episode (if that’s even possible). I loved the first episode, Faith, when I reviewed it back in October, and I can’t wait to jump back into this world. Here’s a small taste of what I had to say about it:

Overall, Faith is an excellent entry point into what’s already becoming one of the best narrative games of the year (this seems to be becoming a regular occurrence for Telltale). The game is polished, the plot is great, the choices are tough, and the ending leaves you eager to jump into the next episode (which is about a month and a half away). The premiere episode of The Wolf Among Us bests last year’s The Walking Dead opener in nearly every way, and if episode two, Smoke & Mirrors can improve on what we’ve seen here, The Wolf Among Us could easily be a contender for game-of-the-year.

Take a look at the developer diary below, and let us know if you’re excited for episode two!

Briefly: Earlier this year, the Veronica Mars movie hit Kickstarter… and was completely funded in just over 10 hours.

Apparently there are a lot of fans that want to see Kristen Bell back in the classic role, and now we know just when you’ll get that wish!

EW has announced the release date for the anticipated film, which is titled simply Veronica Mars, and that date is March 14th, 2014. Note that this is a full theatrical run, and not a limited run / VOD combo as was originally expected. Warner Bros. has stated that fans will determine just how long the feature will stay in theatres.

EW also has an exclusive clip of the film, so head here and check it out!

Now, I’ve never seen an episode of Veronica Mars before, but it’s definitely something that I’ll be looking into before the movie hits theatres this March. Are you a fan? Are you looking forward to the movie? Sound out below!

Briefly: Had it not been for a 9-month delay, we’d all have already seen 300: Rise of an Empire.

Instead, this new trailer will have to do for now. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited as hell for the movie, but I of course wish that it would have made its original June 6th release date.

So far, the film pretty much looks like an extension of the first, which is exactly what I’m hoping for. Take a look at the new preview below, and let us know what you think! 300: Rise of an Empire hits theatres on March 6th!

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Briefly: Netflix has just announced the release date of House of Cards‘ second season, and it’s just a few months away.

Just as before, the entire season will hit the service all at once (so you should probably take the day off work). All 13 episodes will be available on Valentine’s Day, February 14th (priorities, guys and gals).

Take a look at the first teaser for the season below, and head further south for a first synopsis! Did you like the first season? What do you hope to see in the second?

In the second season, Francis (Spacey) and Claire (Wright) Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara, “American Horror Story”), an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill, “The Good Wife”) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney, “Southland”) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. The Underwood’s must overcome these dangers — past and present — to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.

In addition to Spacey, Wright, Mara, Gill and McRaney, the series also stars Mahershala Ali (“Treme”), Sebastian Arcelus (“Person Of Interest”), Kristen Connolly (“The Cabin in the Woods”), Nathan Darrow (“Rigged”), Sakina Jaffrey (“Definitely Maybe”), Michael Kelly (“The Adjustment Bureau”) and Molly Parker (“Deadwood”).

Additional cast members appearing in the series include: Jayne Atkinson (“The Following”), Gil Birmingham (“The Lone Ranger”), Rachel Brosnahan (“Orange is the New Black”), Reg E. Cathey (“Grimm”), Derek Cecil (“Treme”), Terry Chen (“Bates Motel”), Ben Daniels (“Merlin”), Joanna Going (“Mad Men”), Boris McGiver (“Person Of Interest”), Mozhan Marno (“In Plain Sight”) Sam Page (“Mad Men”), Kate Lyn Sheil (“V/H/S”), Jimmi Simpson (“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”) and Constance Zimmer (“The Newsroom”).

Carl Franklin (“Homeland”), James Foley (“Glengarry Glen Ross”), John David Coles (“Justified”), Jodie Foster (“Orange is the New Black”) and Robin Wright all direct season-two episodes.

Briefly: In early November it was rumoured that three actresses were in testing for the role of Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s untitled Man of Steel sequel. Those actresses were said to be The Fast and the Furious star Gal Gadot, G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Elodie Yung, and Oblivion‘s Olga Kurylenko.

One of those lucky ladies has just been cast.

Director Zack Snyder stated that “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

That’s right, Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman.

There’s no indication of just how large the Wonder Woman role in the film will be, but in any case, this is exciting. Could this pave the way to a standalone Wonder Woman film? We can only hope!

What are your thoughts on the casting? Sound out below!

Briefly: Nearly two months after Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us made its debut on home consoles (and computers), the game is finally set to go mobile.

Telltale has revealed that the title’s premiere episode, “Faith”, will launch tonight on iOS. The app will cost a cool $4.99, with a season pass available in-app for another $14.99.

I loved the episode when I reviewed it back in October. Here’s a taste of what I had to say about it:

Overall, Faith is an excellent entry point into what’s already becoming one of the best narrative games of the year (this seems to be becoming a regular occurrence for Telltale). The game is polished, the plot is great, the choices are tough, and the ending leaves you eager to jump into the next episode (which is about a month and a half away). Again, you’ll be able to pick up the first episode for your iOS device later tonight. Already play? Be sure to let us know what you though!

Briefly: After Paul Walker’s tragic death just a few days ago, many wondered what the future of the Fast and Furious series would hold, especially the already in production Fast and Furious 7.

Well, the film has been put on an indefinite hold while Universal figures out what to do with it. On Dec. 2nd, the studio notified both cast and crew members of the halt in production.

Walker was set to reprise his role as Brian O’Connor in the film, much of which had already been filmed.

The film was originally set to release on July 11th, but it’s probably safe to say it won’t be making that date now. We’ll keep you updated on the situation, and be sure to let you know when a new release date is set.

Our thoughts go out to Paul’s family and friends.

Briefly: Remember that low-res spy shot of the new The Amazing Spider-Man 2 poster that we showed you last week? Preceding the debut of the film’s first trailer this Thursday, that poster has been officially released.

It (of course) shows off Electro, but also totally features a HUGE, mechanized looking Rhino, and a Martin Short in The Santa Clause 3-esque Green Goblin.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Briefly: LucasFilm has just debuted a new behind-the scenes video for next year’s Star Wars Rebels. The video features an interview with Executive Producer Greg Weisman, as well as some new footage!

The show is set during the 20 year gap between episodes III and IV of the series, which is a time period that’s never been explored on screen. Star Wars Rebels will premiere as a one-hour special in Fall 2014, with a full series to follow!

Take a look at the new video below, and let us know what you think! Are you excited for this one?

Briefly: I cannot wait for this film.

I’d never heard of the movie, or the James Thurber short story that it’s based on, before seeing the first trailer some months ago. I still get excited each and every time the trailer pops up in the theatre, and that wonderful Of Monsters and Men track has become part of my daily playlist.

20th Century Fox has just debuted a six-minute long extended trailer for the film. I haven’t actually watched it, seeing as six minutes sounds like it could get a little spoilery, but it’s embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

Take a look at the video, and let us know what you think! the Secret Life of Walter Mitty hits theatres on December 25th!

Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

The Arcs is hell.

No, it’s not a bad book (quite the opposite, actually). Writer/Creator Michael D. Poisson has simply crafted a tale so haunting and emotional that you’ll be praying for a shed of hope on each and every one of its 80 pages.

If you’re not interested in reading the buttload of praise that I’m about to give this book, here’s a TL:DR – The Arcs is among the most original graphic novels I’ve experienced in recent memory, and is a tale that stuck with me for eons after I’d finished reading. At the book’s conclusion, you’ll simply be begging for more, and I sure as hell hope that Poisson and his team have a sequel planned for this one (and more than one at that).

Preview1

Yep, The Arcs is fantastic.

I first heard of the title back when its release date was announced this past Summer, and was immediately intrigued by its simple, yet profound plot. The book tells the story of the seven Archangels (the Arcs, duh), who are charged with protecting the Earth after God completely disappears. The angels wage a never-ending war with the armies of Hell, who (of course) want Earth and its inhabitants for themselves. The Arcs open as the angel army is in dire straights: Hell’s army grows more and more powerful, while angels are being torn apart left and right or worse: losing their faith and joining the ranks of the demons. It’s a very original twist on the age-old Heaven vs. Hell storyline, and one with a myriad of clever twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. I absolutely loved the fact that not even the angels knew where God had gone (or when, if at all, he would return), and had to instead rely on blind faith that there was a purpose to their father’s actions.

The story isn’t as black-and-white as it initially sounds (I definitely don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll stop there), but interestingly enough, the art is. That’s right: beneath Matt Jacob’s gorgeous cover (wonderfully coloured by Carlos Badilla), lies an entirely monochrome book, and I think that The Arcs is all the better for it. Sure, colours can be drab and disheartening, but nothing can give off a feeling of hopelessness as strongly as a completely colourless page. Jacob’s has done some incredible work here, elegantly displaying the invisible war between worlds (with humanity caught in the middle), and intelligently using light, darkness, and shadow to add all sorts of emotion to each and every scene. An incredible amount of detail is packed into each page of The Arcs, a feat that could only have been infinitely more challenging without the use of colour. I often found myself studying pages for an extended period of time, simply revelling in the stark contrast of parties present in each hellish battle.

TheArcs2

The only problem that I had with The Arcs (and what a problem to have), is that it was over all too quickly. The book feels like a phenomenal introduction to a much larger series (and a tale that could go on for a very long time), and at its conclusion, all that I wanted was more (and more, and more). There’s still a ton of tale to tell here, and I certainly hope that Michael D. Poisson and his team, and Fanboy Comics, have a chance to continue it.

The Arcs scores a clear 5/5. You can check out a preview of the book here, and pick up your very own copy here! Already read it? Be sure to let us know what you though! Again, this one is definitely worth the price of admission.

Briefly: Sony sold over 1 million PS4 consoles in the unit’s first 24 hours of availability, and tonight, the company revealed another milestone.

Since it’s debut in North America on November 15th, the Playstation 4 has sold over 2.1 million units. Here’s the official word, straight from SCE President Andrew House:

Briefly: We’re now just a few weeks away from Ron Burgundy’s glorious return in Anchorman 2, and it’s time for the film’s marketing push to really begin.

This may just be one of the best pieces of marketing I’ve seen in a long time. Burgundy, obviously, is a newscaster, so what better way to promote the new Anchorman film than to have him take over a real news broadcast.

It happened this week in North Dakota, it’s absolutely hilarious, and you can watch it below.

Anchorman 2 hits theatres on December 18th. Be sure to let us know what you thought of the video!

Briefly: It was just a few weeks ago that FX announced that The Strain had received a 13-episode order, and today the show’s first teaser made its way online.

The mysterious video first premiered during last night’s midseason finale of The Walking Dead (which I haven’t caught up on, so be quiet about it), but has now appeared on an official-looking The Strain related YouTube channel.

The Strain is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The series sounds very cool, and I can’t wait to check out the first episode when it premieres this July. For now, take a look at the teaser below, and let us know what you think! We’ll be sure to share more The Strain news as it comes out!
