‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ is here… and it’s being met with a lot of mixed opinions! That means it’s time to join Ian Kerner on a brand new Geekscape special to throw in our own! Warning! There will be LOTS of Spoilers but hopefully we help clarify a lot of the moving parts! What worked in the film? What didn’t? Who are Rei’s parents? What’s up with Luke being a jerk? Was Canto Bight a complete waste of time? Was the Snoke storyline satisfying? Can Poe do anything right? And what can we expect in episode IX? There’s so much here to talk about so strap in and get ready for the jump to hyperspace!

And as I stated in the episode, here are some of the big discussion worthy articles Ian and company shared:

Lucasfilm announced today that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are no longer directing the Han Solo Star Wars spin off. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said that while Lord and Miller were “talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew” that the directing duo and Lucasfilm had different visions.

The amazing part is that the film has been in production since February, and that there are still weeks left on the shoot as well as reshoots scheduled later this summer.

No hint yet on the who the new director(s) will be, but the release date of May 26, 2018, is still on.

Who would you pick to head this movie? Let us know in the comments below!

With Star Wars being all the rage, now is the perfect time to review Lucy Collin’s crochet kit, Star Wars Even More Crochet. The kit is a sequel of sorts to the popular Star Wars Crochet, which was released in 2015. And while the original kit was dedicated strictly to the classic trilogy, this new release features a mix of characters from the original films as well as those found in The Force Awakens.

The box containing the goods is quite fun by itself, with color photos of the amigurumi (crochet dolls) from the pattern book. Characters can be found not only on the front and back of the box but also two of the sides, giving it a festive air.

Found in the enclosed book are patterns for a Jawa, BB-8, Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren, Obi-wan Kenobi, Lando Calrissian, Admiral Akbar, Nien Nunb, the four members of the Cantina band, and Greedo.

The kit includes the materials needed to make a Jawa and BB-8, even safety eyes and stuffing.

Sounds great, right? And it is, in theory. However, I encountered several issues with the yarn and the hook. For starters, two important things to keep in mind when crocheting amigurumi is that your gauge is tight enough to keep the stuffing from showing through and that the yarn weights are the same. I noticed right off that the weight for the black and brown yarns for the Jawa were different. I ended up using some yarn from my stash instead (both chosen were worsted weight).

Next off, the crochet hook provided was crooked when I took it out of the box (you can’t tell in the photo because it is facing up). And while the hook was still usable, I did find it very uncomfortable to hold after more than 20 minutes.

It is a shame about the pack-ins because the book for the most part is great. The patterns were well-written and I did not encounter any errors. The only problem was the Techniques and Terminology section, which gives a rundown on the different stitches found in the patterns. I have been crocheting a long time and thankfully knew how to do all of the required stitches already but even I was confused by some of the diagrams used in that section. If you know what you are looking at, you eventually have a moment of “I see what you did there” but I can’t see it being of any help to someone unfamiliar with the techniques. I guess that is where Youtub comes to the rescue.

Here is my finished project, Martini the Jawa. He didn’t take long to make. I did have the split the crochet sessions into bits because my hand really did not like working with that bent hook. But all told, I estimate it took me between two to two and a half hours to finish. Not bad at all.

I am going to give the kit as a whole a 2 out of 5. For $24.99, it should come with usable supplies. The pattern book on its own earns a 4 out of 5. The patterns are relatively simple with a great blend of characters from the series’ past and present. The only problem was the not-helpful Techniques section. Other than that, it was super fun.

After months and months of painful and agonizing waiting, we’ve finally gotten the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi! The teaser mostly echoes The Force Awakens teaser where you see a brief scene of something happening before the camera flashes to something else. Even though they do go pretty quickly, there are some really cool shots such as Rey running towards someone head on with her Lightsaber and some more space battles (which Episode 7 was sorely lacking). What do you think? Tell us your thoughts on the trailer below!

Briefly: Despite reshoots and constant rumours of the film’s quality, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story looks freaking awesome.

Seriously, it looks gritty as hell, and entirely different from any Star Wars film we’ve seen thus far (aside from the Death Star being a central component, of course).

Speaking of different, two new international Rogue One posters have hit the web, and they look starkly different from almost any Star Wars poster I’ve seen yet.

They’re minimal, and absolutely gorgeous. Take a look at the images below, and let us know what you think!

rogueoneinter

rogueoneinter2

If the the new trailer left you requiring a chest box to assist your breathing, then the international trailer won’t do anything for you.

The newest trailer for Gareth Edwards’ ‘Rogue One‘ dropped during the Olympics tonight and boy did it go for the gold. The new trailer opens with an eerily familiar theme that culminates to that final scene of the trailer showing us a glimpse of one films greatest villain in cinematic history, DARTH VADER. Whenever I re-watched the teaser and the trailers I got the same feeling of dread as when I first watched Saving Private Ryan, these guys are about go on a suicide mission and there is little to no hope that they will succeed. The Solar eclipse with the Death Star is just foreboding. In the international trailer they undid that and added back the more hopeful version of the soundtrack which in turn made the Vader reveal tacked on and less organic feeling.

The extra tidbit thrown randomly into the trailer is the reveal was that Jyn’s father is embedded as a spy somewhere himself and is sending messages to the Rebels. Another change was the addition of more brutal scenes and blood that were more than likely edited out for the Olympics.

My Donnie Yen infatuation is growing stronger, I didn’t get to see any new action scenes from him but his Force dialogue gave me goosebumps.  We also finally got to hear K-2So voiced by geek favorite Alan Tudyk, who will be giving C3PO a run for his money with the comedic ill timed statistical probabilities. For those who are reading the FANTASTIC Darth Vader comic, K-2SO just helped me give 0-0-0 a voice with his bit of scary politeness.

triple zero

At this point I may have watched the trailer about 10 times. I am just loving everything about it and I am so excited to be getting a new ‘Star Wars’ every year for the foreseeable future. Also with the rumors of Donald Glover of being the front runner to portray young Lando Calrissian, it’s been a good week for ‘Star Wars’ fans.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars’ Story arrives in theaters December 16, 2016.

*Cue the heavy Darth Vader breathing*

Bask in the glory of these beautiful thirteen hi-res images from ‘Rogue One’. I have already updated my ‘Force Awakens’ wallpapers on my phone to these new ones. These images are absolutely gorgeous and brings a brand new depth and details to the old Stormtrooper suits, that Death Trooper suits are to die for!!!

This Thursday a new trailer is slated to premier during the Olympics, and i can’t wait to see whats in store. I already know that Donnie Yen is going to be favorite character of the film with that staff, i cant wait to see what it can do.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ opens December 16th and stars Felicity Jones,Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker.

The first TV spots for Rogue One has just been released… and it show no new footage, so that’s dissapointing.

I’m so excited for this ‘filler’ movie that I even made the wailing alarm my notification sound for my phone (and it’s been like that ever since the first trailer was released).

The two parts that always gets me hyped are Donnie Yen with the staff, and the AT-AT aiming at the screen. I can’t wait!

Rogue One rebels into theaters December 16.

https://youtu.be/zkHtdmWVmzQ

So I’ve literally just walked out of the theater. (Side note to theater: This is Star Wars—no one’s in a hurry to get out—please don’t turn up the lights before the credits even start rolling! Party foul!)

How fanatical am I? Not too much—I mean, I don’t go around dressed up in costume or anything—although my hot neighbor (who I’m carpooling to the theater with and who thinks this is film isn’t any more significant than say, The Scorch Trials) immediately asks, “Han Solo?” Guess I nailed it, subtly.

StarWarsTheForceAwakens_Selfie01_600x900
Here I am, ready to head to the theater.

The real benefit to seeing something as soon as it comes out isn’t just to avoid spoilers, it’s also great because your expectations have been formed strictly between yourself and the film’s marketing team. There have been more than a few times when a film’s accumulated hype left me disappointed with the actual delivery—the product of unchecked adoration from the fanbase. Returning to such a film years later, my expectations palate cleansed, I find it to be much more enjoyable. Sometimes, a lot of bad reviews will having me dragging my feet to see something; only to realize, when I finally do see it, it’s just my cup of awesome.

My aim here is to provide your expectations a solid baseline—something you can hang onto in the oncoming storm of reviews and reactions that will be thrust at you from all sides now—until you’re able to see it for yourself and enjoy forming your own genuine experience and reaction, good or bad.

Again, all spoiler free, cause I hate when the beans are spilled beforehand—Star Wars: The Force Awakens is everything we need it to be. It is an organic extension of the galaxy far far away constructed in episodes IV, V and VI. Satisfaction, excitement and anticipation are the words in play. Some of the more elaborate wish fulfillment that might’ve taken place is instead solid and healthy story development as a new generation rightly takes the reins of the galaxy.

The tropes and mechanics you want are all there. The comedy is fitting with the proper Star Wars tone; as is the drama, story dynamics, character development and interactions—which were sadly all lost in the prequel trilogy. The action and cinematography are taken up a notch without violating what came before. So the production is very solid, any remaining uncertainty is only to what degree the story will resonate with you.

Zero complaints for me—although, the end result feels a bit more “The Empire Strikes Back” in that it leaves you hungry for more—which isn’t a bad thing! My expectations were already at a level where they wouldn’t have been fully slaked unless I left the theater having finally been taught to use the force and handed my very own genuine lightsaber. Again, short of becoming a literal Jedi in just over two hours, it was everything I needed it to be. I’m looking forward to watching it again and again, picking up all the little things I’m sure I missed during this first viewing.

Bottom line? No regrets. Looking forward to seeing it many more times. I think Star Wars: The Force Awakens is very hard to dislike—unless you believe in general that movies pretty much suck and sci-fi/fantasy anything is rather stupid (in which case we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation anyway and I wonder why you’ve read this far in the first place—good luck with your sad life).

Star Wars!

Here I am, in the theater’s parking garage afterwards. Because. . . the force?

TONIGHT: Watch the “‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Red Carpet Live” at StarWars.com!

The City of Hollywood is no stranger to big premieres and celebrity events. The Oscars actually shut down an entire city block to make room for the all the celebrities and media covering the event. A whole block!—tonight’s Red Carpet event has four full blocks shut down. Yeah, it’s that big, folks. In addition to the Hollywood police, Disney is ponying up thousands more for additional security to handle the anticipated crowd.

If you have a tough time with crowds of that size or can’t make it out to Hollywood, California you don’t have to surrender to the dark side as your anger consumes you. At 5:30 pm PT (8:30 pm ET) just head over to www.starwars.com to enjoy the event live, hosted by Andi Gutierrez, Anthony Carboni, and David Collins. See you there?

Briefly: It’s about damned time.

Following last week’s weird-as-hell live-action trailer, EA has finally (on the eve of the game’s release, no less) detailed just what Star Wars: Battlefront‘s pricey season pass will contain.

The pass will run you $50, and will, first of all, give you a two-week head start on each of the game’s four upcoming expansions. It also includes:

-Over 20 new pieces of galactic tech including weapons, vehicles, and Star Cards for both Rebels and Imperials (what the heck is a Star Card)
-4 more heroes and villains for you to fight as or against
-16 additional multiplayer maps featuring new locations
-4 exciting new game modes
-Exclusive “Shoot First” emote

Seeing as the core Battlefront experience features just 13 maps (and only one large map for each planet), it seems like a fairly substantial expansion. That being said, is Battlefront just coming out of the gates light with content?

In any case, it’s still going to sell like crazy, and seeing as EA hinted at Battlefront sequels today, it’s pretty clear that the franchise is (this time) here to stay.

Take a look at the game’s launch trailer below, and let us know if you’re going to be picking up the season pass!

Briefly: I… don’t know what to make of this trailer.

Yep, the fact that we’re even getting a new Star Wars Battlefront all these years later is pretty amazing (even with all of the game’s apparent limitations), and while I can’t wait to get my hands on it, I can’t help but feel as though this trailer is far more weird than it is interesting.

It’s essentially more than one minute of watching people get raptured… followed by everyone’s beloved Anna Kendrick awkwardly delivering a Star Wars line before getting raptured herself.

The music builds throughout the trailer, and its then revealed that they’re all being raptured to a far better world than our own; one filled with endless Star Wars battles.

In any case, you can take a look at the odd-as-hell video below, and be sure to let us know if you plan to pick up Star Wars Battlefront when it launches on November 17th!

Whether you’re ready or not, Star Wars Battlefront is just around the corner. Along with keeping the hype train rolling with character posters for The Force Awakens, EA is doing their part by steadily release promos for their upcoming game.

Each tour takes you though one of four planets. After choosing a planet, you’ll be prompted with an interactive menu that allows you to explore aspects about the gameplay and maps.

Check it all out here!

Star Wars Battlefront is set to release on November 17th!

One of the many announcements at D23 included the news that Colin Trevorrow would be at the helm in Star Wars Episode IX. The Jurassic World director is no stranger to franchise films but also has experience with smaller productions, such as Saefty Not Guaranteed.

Colin_Trevorrow-791x1024

Executive producer Kathleen Kennedy says Trevorrow is a perfect fit for this film, citing his success with Jurassic World.  Kennedy further states that the folks at Lucasfilm are “thrilled to have such an incredible talent as Colin join our family and step into the Star Wars universe.”

Trevorrow had this to say about the project:

“This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

Trevorrow certainly has his work cut for him. He will head to Lucasfilm this year to start pre-production on Episode IX, which will also conclude the third trilogy of the Star Wars films.

We have our first real look at a Star Wars The Force Awakens poster and it is glorious:

Star Wars Force Awakens Poster

The poster obviously invokes a sense of nostalgia, mostly due to Drew Struzan‘s artwork, along with some new details for those of us staying away from descriptions and spoilers, namely details regarding Finn. Those keen on the details will also notice at least two suns, with another possible sun located in the bottom left.  Could it be possible Jakku is actually Tatooine? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

D23 has gotten off to a fantastic start this Saturday with several announcements regarding the Star Wars franchise. Perhaps one of the most exciting of the bunch was the announcement of a Star Wars theme park set to open at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Disney chairman Bob Iger described the park as a place where guests can “truly become part of their favorite Star Wars Stories.”

starwarsthemepark2

This new theme park is also being hailed as the largest single-themed expansion to date. These new lands will also be occupied by droids, aliens native to the setting you’re in, Tatooine’s cantina, and a Millennium Falcon ride.

“These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

– Bob Iger

Iger also promises that “nothing in the land will be out of character or stray from the mythology.” Obviously this is good news for any Star Wars fan. There’s no word on when the 14-acre park will open, but you can count on us to keep our ears open!

D23 has become a necessary weekend con to pay attention to. We’ve heard about the clip of Captain America: Civil War that we’ll try to get to you guys, somehow, as fast as we can, but what we have now is just as awesome: The first look at the cast of Rogue One! And yes, Donnie Yen has joined a galaxy far, far away.

rogue-one-cast-photo-d23-1024x682

Man, is it gritty! We’ve all wanted a darker Star Wars, this is literally dark. There’s hardly any blues or yellows!

Oh man, Donnie Yen. I actually had confirmation several weeks ago that he would be in Star Wars, but I had to sit on it for various reasons. It really sucked I couldn’t tell you guys sooner, but you would have found out yourselves if you knew where to look. It wasn’t exactly a heavily-guarded secret.

Besides Donnie Yen The Living God, Rogue One has got a hell of a cast. From left to right in the above photot: Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Felicity Jones, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen. Not pictured but will be in the film are Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk (yes, THAT Alan Tudyk!), Forest Whitaker (yes, THAT Forest Whitaker!), and Mads Mikkelsen (yes, THAT Mads Mikkelsen — Jesus Rogue One isn’t messing around).

Has the title changed? I was under the impression and had long written it and seen it written as Star Wars: Rogue One, but it seems the title is officially Rogue One with A Star Wars Story as a tagline. I’m also seeing Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One in certain places. Minor details, all that matters is that you know Rogue One and that this is goddamn Star Wars so anything works.

Rogue One is a prequel-ish of sorts, taking place before A New Hope. Directed by Gareth Edwards of 2014’s Godzilla, the movie “will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar” says Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy in the press release.

From StarWars.com:

“It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essentialStar Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for ‘Rogue One.’”

I can’t fanboy enough over Donnie Yen in Star Wars. Felicity Jones and Alan Tudyk are just the cherries on top. Excuse me, I have some Ip Man to watch on loop between now and December 16, 2016. I might even skip The Force Awakens! (Haha, no.)

Han Solo has a special place in every Star Wars fan’s heart. So when Disney announced a film based on Solo’s character in his early years, we became ecstatic even though we didn’t exactly know what we were in for. Thankfully, Executive Producer Kathleen Kennedy has offered a few tidbits about the film!

star-wars-fans-build-millennium-falcon-slice

“We’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo,” Kennedy remarked. “He’ll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s.” This sounds great! Following the canon the prequels set, that would mean the Clone Wars have ended and the rise of the empire is in full swing. Maybe we’ll see some of the events that shaped Han into becoming a full-fledged General for the rebellion.

Learning from past mistakes, Kennedy had this to say about rehashing old stories told in the existing films:

There’s got to be a reason for [the stand-alone film] to be. And obviously the thing that Star Wars has always done so well is it doesn’t spend a lot of time [explaining] the stories that have come before. We don’t want to do that either. We don’t want to spend time going back and answering a lot of questions that, quite frankly, I don’t think people want answered.

Where was she when midi-chlorians became a thing?!

I think the key here is that we are identifying an event or events in Han Solo’s life that gives you some idea of who he is and why he is the character we have all known to love.

So far, this Han Solo stand-alone film sounds like everything we want, and a little more. There’s no news on casting yet, and that’s okay. The film isn’t slated to release until May 2018. Until then, we can expect at least three Star Wars feature films, including Episode VIII.

Disney has decided to premiere The Force Awakens‘ first TV spot in South Korea, and it does not disappoint.

There’s a few new shots to look out for, as well as some new music. Hopefully we lay off the TV spots until we get closer to December. Regardless, this was a nice treat.

You can file this one under “perfect choice”. Oscar award winning actor Benicio Del Toro has apparently been asked to play the bad guy in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Looper director Rian Johnson is heading up the team of Episode VIII, which will be a direct sequel to Abrams Episode VII.

No word from Disney confirming it, but multiple sources have told our friends over at The Wrap that the talks are young, but Disney and Lucasfilm are VERY interested in Del Toro.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to hit theaters May 26th, 2017, with filming to begin next year.

Note: This article contains thoughts and experiences from both myself and Eric Francisco. The builds we played were in the Alpha stage and were played on both PS3 and PC.

One of our personal highlights of this year’s SDCC was definitely Star Wars Battlefront. The title was available to play at NerdHQ and a couple of Geekscapists were able to get some extended hands-on time with the game.

Lots of things come to mind when the ‘Battlefront’ name is mentioned. One of the things that come to mind are the set pieces found in the past two iterations. They’re structured like an interactive Michael Bay movie, with huge, thrilling set pieces that are easy to follow through. Star Wars is the most recognizable blockbuster of all time, and let us tell you, ‘Battlefront’ does not disappoint.

‘Survival Mode’

The first mode we played was a co-op mission in which two players must survive an onslaught of Stormtrooper waves while completing sub-mission objectives. Players can choose whether or not to play the game in first or third person. One of us, I won’t say who *cough* Eric *cough* felt that the differences between first and third person were minimal at best. To switch, players must hold down the D-pad on the controller, but it only seemed to work half the time.

Regardless, the controls were easy to grasp, which is a good thing seeming that the last iteration of ‘Battlefront’ was over a decade ago (sorry if I just made you feel old). The gameplay feels natural to anyone easily familiar with shooters. Even if you’re not, it’s still got a pick-up-and-play accessibility, which is the ideal for a broad product as Star Wars is.

battlefront3

The gameplay feels solid, even though it’s in the alpha stage. We usually found ourselves playing in third person, as that’s what we got used to in the in past installments of the franchise. However, playing in first person seemed to be a little more challenging at times.

battlefront4

Upon starting the match, we were prompted to choose our primary weapons. Each weapon seemed to balanced according to the map and player behavior. For example, a Heavy Blaster is the equivalent to that of a shotgun, which will deal a ton of damage, but have a poor firing rate. Players who decided to use their jetpack to get right in the middle of a Stormtrooper squad should go for this. This level of thinking pre-match is reminiscent of the past Battlefront iterations in which we all had our favorite classes according to each map.

This particular map had cliffs and ramps up to higher passageways. Jetpacks were a must. The jetpacks in this game are different from traditional jetpacks that you’ll find in a game like Halo. Instead, think of this pack as a booster pack. It’ll propel you into the air in any direction you want to go, and it’s awesome. Players who pick up the jetpack’s use quickly will be able to get a decent advantage over unsuspecting players.

20 vs 20 ‘Walker Assault’

battlefront1

Unfortunately, Eric couldn’t join me for this 20 v 20 match as he had much better things to do. It’s okay. I didn’t let it bother me.

When I first heard about the AT-AT’s having a pre-destined path to walk along, I admit, I was a little upset. All it took was one match as the Rebels to realize how great of an idea it was. Walker’s are now not as invincible as they once were, but they are a terrible foe to come across. During 20v20 matches, the Rebel Alliance must find a way  to activate and protect satellites so that information can be sent to passing Y-Wings to essentially drop Ion bombs onto the walkers. Once this is done, the walkers will be temporarily disabled and vulnerable to any and all fire. It’s also a great time to get into a Snowspeeder and tie its legs up.

battlefront2

Fans who have witnessed the past E3 trailers have seen just how much action goes on in these multiplayer matches, and let me tell you, the E3 trailer is a pretty good representation of what you’ll be playing. While I did play on the keyboard and mouse, I found that the quicker players around me grasped the concept of being able to use abilities, such as the jetpack, personal shield, and ion shots, the better they faired on the battlefield. This was partially due to the terrain of the map, which seemed to be a character of its own. Players would routinely find cover in the oddest places, like behind an abandoned box, or even behind a small rock. Regardless, this made the experience even better. This meant that players must apply quick-thinking if they are to survive the trip to where the action is happening.

battlefront

Another major addition is the concept of using power-ups. These power-ups allow players, who get to the location and pick it up first, to use extra artillery. The power-ups I found ranged from a large team shield, to smart rockets perfect for AT-ST’s, and an airstrike.

Perhaps the only downside experienced was the lack of air vehicles around the map. It seemed as if there was a slight learning curve to piloting and no one wanted to take the time to figure it out. Regardless, the few X-Wing’s and Snowspeeder’s that made it into the air were briefly celebrated before the team watched them crash into the ground.

Overall, what little we saw of the game was more than enough to get really excited for the game. Star Wars: Battlefront is in every way playing out the battles you only dreamed of while playing with toys. It’s current-gen make-up not only make it look pleasing, but the technology lying underneath the hood makes Star Wars truly realized.

In statements released on starwars.com, Josh Trank (“Fantastic Four”, “Chronicle”) is no longer going to be directing the second standalone Star Wars Anthology film.

Trank released a statement saying:

“After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney for the amazing opportunity to have been a part of this. May the Force be with you all.”

Lucasfilm Vice-President of Development Kiri Hart said:

“It was a privilege to collaborate with Josh. We are grateful for the energy and love of Star Wars that he brought to the process, and we wish him all the best.”

Not knowing any information about the movie it’s hard to have any feelings about his his departure. One also has to wonder if this will cause any delays in their release date plans.

So with the departure of Josh, who will be called upon to helm the project? Who do you guys think would be good fit?

Briefly: The rebels are coming.

Disney has just announced the anticipated premiere date for their phenomenal-looking new series Star Wars Rebels.

The series will begin with a one-hour movie titled Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, which will be available to DisneyXD members on September 29th, while us regular folk will have to wait until its television premiere on Friday, October 3rd at 9 Eastern.

The series itself will begin to air just ten days later on October 13th. The story unfolds during a dark time when the evil Galactic Empire is tightening its grip of power on the galaxy. Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet and are ruining the lives of its people. The motley but clever crew of the starship Ghost – cowboy Jedi Kanan, ace pilot Hera, street-smart teenager Ezra, the “muscle” Zeb, warrior firebrand Sabine, and cantankerous old astromech droid Chopper – is among a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire. Together, they will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.

As Disney states: “The television movie garnered rave reviews at last month’s San Diego Comic-Con fan event for its story (set between the events of Star Wars Episodes III and IV) and its look – akin to the classic Star Wars trilogy. The series designs are influenced by the work of original Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.”

Take a look at the first seven minutes of Star Wars Rebels below, and let us know if you’ll be tuning in!

Briefly: Disney XD has just debuted the first seven minutes of their anticipated new series, Star Wars Rebels. The extended preview  does exactly what it intends to, and gets us excited as hell for what’s to come.

Starring a small band of heroes — Sabine, Kanan, Hera, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper — Star Wars Rebels is set in a time where the Empire rules through fear and shrouds the galaxy in darkness. This trailer offers many new glimpses at sequences from the show, including the starship Ghost chased by TIE Fighters; young Ezra watching as a Star Destroyer looms overhead; Stormtroopers marching; a zero-g fight between our heroes and Imperials; and Kanan, a secret Jedi, assembling his lightsaber and preparing for battle. It ends, however, with an Imperial officer reporting to the Inquisitor — the Empire’s Jedi hunter, seen and heard here for the first time. Star Wars Rebels takes place between Star Wars: Episode III and IV as the Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy and a rebellion begins to form. The series, executive produced by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman, is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD.

Here’s what Disney said about the preview:

In this special extended preview of Star Wars Rebels, the Empire arrives on Lothal — bringing tyranny with them. Imperials and stormtroopers establish an intimidating presence on the planet, enforcing strict new laws for trade and arresting citizens for expressing dissent of any kind. A young boy named Ezra, however, discovers that a mysterious group is attempting to steal cargo from the Empire. Intrigued, he tries to take it for himself – and ends up on the run from both Imperials and this small band of rebels.

Briefly: When Disney purchased Lucasfilm in its entirety late last year, the Indiana Jones property was still somewhat up in the air. Disney owned it, but until now Paramount held the rights to distribute the franchise. Rights for future titles have now moved to Disney in what had to have been a huge deal.

Paramount will continue to distribute and market the first four films in the series, but Disney is now open (and likely planning) to create further titles in the franchise. Paramount will also receive royalties on any Indiana Jones films made by Disney.

So, since we all loved The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so much, what do you want to see in the next, inevitable Indiana Jones flick? Sound out below!

We all knew that a new Star Wars animated series was in the works, and it just got an official title.

Star Wars Rebels is currently in the works and will premiere in Fall 2014. The show will begin as a one-hour special, and be followed by a weekly series. Set in the nearly two-decade period between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the series will focus on the founding of the Rebel Alliance.

LucasFilm has released a behind-the-scenes video title Star Wars Rebels: The Rebellion Begins, which has Pablo Hidalgo speaking with executive producer David Filoni about the anticipated new series. Take a look below, and let us know if this makes up for the cancellation of The Clone Wars! It doesn’t, does it? But Star Wars Rebels does sound cool!

Here’s the full press release for those who want to know more:

Production has begun on Star Wars Rebels, an exciting, all-new animated television series based on one of the greatest entertainment franchises of all time. Scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, it will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

Leading the development of the series is a creative team of exceptional talent. Screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) is an executive producer on Star Wars Rebels and will write the premiere episode. He is joined by Dave Filoni as executive producer, who served as supervising director of the Emmy nominated Star Wars: The Clone Wars since 2008. Executive producer Greg Weisman brings with him a wealth of animation experience with credits such as Young Justice, The Spectacular Spider-Man and Gargoyles.

Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, “The entire team at Lucasfilm has provided extraordinary creativity and innovation for over three decades, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the expansive and imaginative world of Star Wars to Disney XD’s viewers.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to explore new corners of the Star Wars universe,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president, Lucasfilm. “I think Star Wars Rebels will capture the look, feel and fun that both kids and their parents love about Star Wars.”

The action-filled series is set between the events of Episode III and IV — an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point.

Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Fans attending Star Wars Celebration Europe will be the first to get an exclusive look at the new series. Casting will be announced at a later date.

This is going to make a lot of money.

We all (well, most of us) shat our pants in excitement when Disney revealed J.J. Abrams as the director of Star Wars: Episode VII. We also knew full well that the House of Mouse was planning spinoff titles, with a possibility of each film focussing on a specific character.

We knew the what, but aside from Episode VII‘s 2015 release date, we had no idea when to expect this ball to start rolling. As Disney revealed today at CinemaCon, they’re planning to kick things off pretty rapidly.

After Star Wars: Episode VII‘s launch in Summer 2015, the company will release a new film in the Star Wars franchise every single year. You read that right. 2016, 2017, 2018, and onward, a new Star Wars film will be released. Now, not all of these will be continuations of the main series; after Episode VII will come a spinoff, then Episode VIII, another spinoff, rinse and repeat.

The galaxy far, far away is about to get a lot more crowded. Are you excited?

I can't even begin to imagine what an image like this would look like in five years.
