FX is planning on making a big splash this year in San Diego. Along with planning a live Archer event, FX is also bringing an immersive Virtual Reality experience to any and all American Horror Story fans. However, the VR experience is part of much larger art exhibit!

FXhibition SDCC

At the Hilton Bayfront, fans of FX shows Archer, American Horror Story, The Strain, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll will be treated to an immersive experience that places fans in their favorite worlds. As for the horror fans out there, “American Horror Story will curate a virtual reality experience unlike any other that takes participants on a unique journey through terrifying encounters inspired by the hair-raising series.”

Horror and VR experiences seem to be the perfect match and it’s sure to garner some attention during the convention. Lucky for fans, FX has set up a website that allows you to reserve a spot for your VR experience! Starting July 19th, you can book your spot at AHSReservations.com.

As for the other FX shows, here’s what’s planned for the FXhibition:

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Paddy’s Pub will offer an escape from the heat providing water on tap for fans to stay cool throughout the day. A real bar will house the water taps and consumers will receive a branded collapsible cup to enjoy their drink. The FX Lounge will also be available throughout the day to provide shade and entertainment, where guests can rest their feet in seating inspired by some of the world’s most iconic chairs re-interpreted as notable props from various FX series, including the American Horror Story: Hotel Mattress as a Barcelona Bench and Archer’s Martini Olive as an Oliva Chair.

On display in the FX Sculpture Garden, fans can take advantage of social media worthy photo opportunities with iconic characters sculpted as busts including, Archer’s “Pam Poovey,” American Horror Story: Asylum’sWhite Nun, Man Seeking Woman’s Troll, The Strain’s “Quinlan,” Baskets’ Clown and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s “Frank Reynolds” as the “troll” character from The Nightman Cometh.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll’s turbulent rock culture will be illustrated through a dramatic larger-than-life installation, featuring a smashed guitar with broken pieces several feet in size for a life size exhibit.

For more information on the FXhibition, you can visit their site here as we get closer to SDCC!

Briefly: Boy do I ever need to catch up on The Strain.

FX has just debuted the trailer for the upcoming season, and it looks just as tense, terrifying, and fabulous as every episode that I’ve seen thus far.

As season three begins, New York City is a battleground. Written off by the federal government, the people of New York City must fight for survival on their own. The question is who will win? Humans or strigoi? Our heroes win victories, but are not winning the war. Beset by personal conflicts – betrayal, disappointment, paranoia – our group is splintering. Meanwhile, the Master is close to executing an irreversible transformation of the world. Is there still hope to save the city and humanity?

Season 3 is set to premiere on August 28th. Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Each and every year at Comic Con we all say the same thing. “There is more and more stuff to do OUTSIDE the convention center”, and this year, naturally wasn’t any different.

FX had taken over an entire field just outside the convention center, and set up their Fearless Arena. It was a HUGE area (in comic con terms), and when we arrived for the press event it was very nice to be able to roam around away from the crowds (and away from those lines).

FX had multiple attractions for many of their shows. The one that stood out the most was a HUGE hotel for the upcoming season of American Horror Story: Hotel. Walking inside the Hotel the whole thing was decked out. Pristine floors that looked like they could be marble, really convincing. The front desk had a wall of keys and mailboxes behind it. Inside attendees were given a bag and lead into one of eight rooms. The rooms were money grab pods! Derek and I were lead into our own pods, the fans turned on and we were tasked with grabbing as much cash as possible. It was a lot freaking harder than you think, like really hard. We bagged our cash and went to the front desk to see what we won. We didn’t get the most cash, so we were handed the consolation prizes (a neat key shaped keychain).

IMG_2320

The next event we checked out was the giant Fargo snowglobe. Thats right, a life sized freaking snowglobe. Inside was a famous scene from the show, and a facade of one of the towns buildings. We walked in, and a snow cannon went off and snapped a picture of us. Derek doesn’t really know how to pose for these things, so he just stood there looking confused. They also handed us waffle scented air-fresheners, which we haven’t actually had the courage to test out just yet.

The last one we checked out was a VR experience for The Strain. Attendees were each sat in a chair and present with a Samsung Gear VR. This attraction was a first person experience where we were lead through a dangerous area infested with vampires. A character from the show told us that we were looking for a lost survivor. This was a full 360 experience, and the 3D sound in this one was really on point. The sound of the creatures running around behind us was quite immersive. The room was equipped with powerful subwoofers in the floor, so every time something happened, you really felt it.

See, awkward as hell.
See, awkward as hell.

The last attraction, that we unfortunately weren’t able to enjoy, was a medevil themed obstacle course for their newest show The Bastard Executioner. This show sounds freaking awesome! A retired Knight from King Edwards court has to take up his sword again as an executioner. Not much else is known about the story, but I am so very excited to see this program.

The entire team from FX really pulled out all the stops. The FX Fearless Arena really was an awesome experience for anyone at San Diego Comic Con, and it didn’t require a badge!

Did you make it to the arena? What was your favourite part? Sound out below!

Briefly: Following the season’s first trailer from earlier this month, FX has revealed just when we’ll be able to jump back into the world of The Strain.

Season two will debut on Sunday, July 12 (which also happens to be the final day of this year’s SDCC). I was a big fan of last year’s The Strain, once the first few (kind of boring) episodes passed and the series really began to ramp up. That being said, I’m more than excited for the second season to finally premiere.

As the second season unfolds, the transformation has begun. It can no longer be denied — New York City is rapidly falling to an evil epidemic, and no one is coming to its rescue. Its citizens must fight or die. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and his unlikely allies tried to take down the embodiment of this evil — the Master — and failed. Now Eph and Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) concentrate on creating a biological weapon to wipe out the creatures, while Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) searches for an ancient book he hopes will reveal the strigoi’s entire history…and possibly a way to kill them. Meanwhile, the Master is out for revenge, unleashing new and even more terrifying breeds of bloodthirsty creatures after our team. Our team must find a way to defeat him before the infection spreads too far and becomes irreparable … before they become monsters themselves.

Briefly: We’re still without a premiere date, but the first trailer for The Strain’s highly anticipated second season has just hit the web, along with a brand new poster via Entertainment Weekly.

I was a big fan of last year’s The Strain, once the first few (kind of boring) episodes passed and the series really began to ramp up. That being said, I’m more than excited for the second season to premiere this Summer.

Take a look at the trailer and poster below, and let us know what you think! The Strain‘s second season is without a premiere date at this point, but we’ll be sure to share as soon as we learn more!

Are you looking forward to the second season? Sound out below!

We’re all big fans of The Strain here over at Geekscape, some of us since the first novel released back in 2009, and some of us last Summer when the FX series first premiered (dat premiere, right?)

The fantastic vampire drama was renewed for a second season back in August, and we were pretty damned excited to learn that this universe would be continuing for at least another year. We even had series star Sean Astin on the show back in September!

Not familiar with the series? Well, When a freak virus kills all but four passengers on an airplane at JFK, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), head of the Center for Disease Control’s “Canary Team,” is immediately called to the scene. With help from a mysterious Holocaust survivor (David Bradley), “Eph” and his colleague (Mía Maestro) uncover the outbreak’s ties to vampirism. Now, the only way to stop the terrifying disease from wiping out mankind is to face its source – a sinister supernatural creature known as “The Master” – whose evil intent seems more powerful than any other force on Earth!

Looks pretty cool, huh? Want to win a copy of the series’ first season on Blu-Ray? How about a copy of the first volume of the graphic novel adaptation too? Yeah? Well, here’s how you can enter (and yeah, you can earn quite a few entries):

Geekscape’s ‘The Strain’ Prize Pack!

Entry is easy, so get going, and let us know your favourite The Strain moment in the comments below! While you’re at it, be sure to visit http://www.twostrains.com, which features a side-by-side comparison of key scenes from the original graphic novel to the TV show, with behind the scenes interviews and commentary from the writer of the novel, Mike Huddleston (also a consultant on the show).

Obviously we’ve been big fans of Sean Astin for years. Goonies, Rudy, TMNT, The Lord of the Rings and now The Strain have made us all lifelong fans. But there’s a lot about Sean that you may not know, like how active he is in politics and that he’s an avid runner. Well, you’re going to know all that now as he guests on the show and tells us about his conflicted character on The Strain, stepping barefoot into Middle Earth, being involved in politics and his talk show Vox Populi and whether or not he can keep pace with me as a distance runner (he can)! I think you’ll find him to be everything you expected: a smart, thoughtful guy who is passionate about everything he does. I loved having him on the show!

Briefly: FX today renewed their popular horror-drama The Strain for a second season.

While it took a few episodes to get going, I’m thoroughly enjoying where the series is going at this point, and I’m ecstatic that its story won’t conclude when the first season does.

The 13-episode second season will debut next Summer. John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks said that “We’ve never had any doubts about ‘The Strain. Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more. It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace. We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale.”

You can take a look at the extended trailer for the series below, and be sure to let you know what you’ve thought of The Strain so far!

Briefly: Guillermo Del Toro’s The Strain is just a month away from premiere, and FX has finally given us a trailer that’s more than a few seconds long.

The Strain is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The footage looks great, and we really can’t wait to see more. Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! The series premieres on July 13th!

Briefly: We’ve seen tons (and tons) of tiny teasers, but the first actual footage from FX’s The Strain has just hit the web.

Briefly: Following a series of still images, FX has debuted a new teaser for this Summer’s premiere of The Strain.

The short teaser doesn’t really show us anything aside from an eclipse, (which I’m guessing is important) and simply states that “He is here”.

The series sounds extremely interesting, and I’m really looking forward to seeing more, I just really wish that FX would show us something, instead of these vague images and non-revelatory teasers.

In any case, take a look at the teaser below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the series. The Strain will premiere on FX this July!

Briefly: Following the first brief teaser from early last month, and the first stills from earlier this week, FX has debuted a new image for their television adaptation of Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s The Strain.

The still (again) reveals little about the series (and certainly don’t give us at look at anything really exciting), but it’s certainly nice to see something out of FX regarding the show.

Take a look at the image below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the series! The Strain premieres on FX this July!

Briefly: It was just a few weeks ago that FX announced that The Strain had received a 13-episode order, and today the show’s first teaser made its way online.

The mysterious video first premiered during last night’s midseason finale of The Walking Dead (which I haven’t caught up on, so be quiet about it), but has now appeared on an official-looking The Strain related YouTube channel.

Briefly: I need to get reading The Strain, especially now that the pilot has become a series!

That’s right. FX announced today that their adaptation of Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s The Strain has received a full series order. The 13-episode first season is set to begin production in Toronto this month, for a July premiere. The entire series is expected to span between 39 and 65 episodes.

The series stars Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland and Miguel Gomez. We’ll be sure to share more info as soon as it’s announced, as I can’t wait for this one!

Deadline reports that Corey Stoll (House Of Cards) has signed on for the lead role of ‘Dr. Ephraim Goodweather’ in the pilot for FX’s upcoming adaptation of The Strain. Del Toro will direct the pilot based on a script written by him and Chuck Hogan. Carlton Cuse (Lost) will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the project which according to the site “already has a full writing staff in place churning out scripts”. FX has reportedly already commited $500,000 to creature creation. Del Toro stated about the casting:

The-Strain-1

“To me, having the right lead for The Strain series was perhaps the most important creative task,” del Toro told the site. “To be able to secure the perfect actor in Corey Stoll sets the project on the right track. To embody a character like Ephraim Goodweather – who transitions through every emotion and situation imaginable, and which anchors the narrative of the series – requires amazing talent and craft. Corey has both in spades as he has demonstrated it over and over again.”

This is some awesome news for Del Toro fans (read: pretty much everyone)

Deadline reports that a TV adaptation of the acclaimed vampire series The Strain is in the works for FX.

Del Toro himself, along with Chuck Hogan actually wrote the source material, and both will be handling the TV rewrite. Del Toro is also set to direct the pilot of the adaptation!

Deadline states that Del Toro originally envisioned The Strain as a television project. Networks weren’t interested however, and it was turned into a novel instead. The networks then came crawling back, but their pleas went unanswered until after the trilogy was completed.

Carlton Cuse (Losl) is set as showrunner, and will concurrently be running the A&E Psycho prequel Bates Motel. In an interview with Variety, Cuse spoke of the series, stating “These are very scary vampires, these are not romantic vampires. They will give you nightmares.”

The synopsis of the novels opening helps further this claim:

A Boeing 777 arrives at JFKand is on its way across the tarmac, when it suddenly stops dead. All window shades are pulled down. All lights are out. All communication channels have gone quiet. Crews on the ground are lost for answers, but an alert goes out to the CDC. Dr. Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather, head of their Canary project, a rapid-response team that investigates biological threats, gets the call and boards the plane. What he finds makes his blood run cold.

In a pawnshop in Spanish Harlem, a former professor and survivor of the Holocaust named Abraham Setrakian knows something is happening. And he knows the time has come, that a war is brewing.

So begins a battle of mammoth proportions as the vampiric virus that has infected New York begins to spill out into the streets. Eph, who is joined by Setrakian and a motley crew of fighters, must now find a way to stop the contagion and save his city – a city that includes his wife and son – before it is too late.

It sounds terrifying, and it sounds perfect for a network like FX. I don’t get any Vampire Diaries vibes from this one either (no offence fans), meaning we may actually get some vampire horror back on TV!

Today is actually the first I’ve heard of the series, but it sounds extremely intriguing. The pilot isn’t set to shoot until next September, so you’ve got lots of time to get acquainted with the novels!
