2012 San Diego Comic Con is under way.  Tim and Sax’s annual tradition continues as they and their friends make sure YOU are in the know for all the MUST-SEE events, guests and non-stop fun.  Personal updates and invitations are provided JUST FOR YOU from our pals Jerry Beck (and the WORST CARTOONS EVER!), The Battlestar Galactica Fan Club w/ Richard Hatch, Drew Seldin from Tri-Force prop replicas, our boss Jonathan London, Steve Rude,STEVE SEELEY & MICHAEL MORECI, Titan Books and many more!

Also, our pal Mark Evanier is hosting about a dozen panels that are ALL very cool.  He’s talking about Tarzan, Jack Kirby, Superman & Batman, Silver Age Marvels, Richie Rich, cartoon voices, Joe Simon, Archie, Mad Magazine and a zillion other things!  His guests on his panels include Marv Wolfman, Scott Shaw!,  Sergio Aragonés, Kieth Knight, Paul Levitz, Genius  Paul Dini, Batton Lash , Herb Trimpe, the amazing Stan Freberg and zillions more!

Ed Boon brought two new characters to Comic-Con and revealed that you will be able to play as both Nightwing and Cyborg. Due to the game being obviously based on the ‘New 52’ cyborgs inclusion is obvious and I am sure we can expect to see Aquaman and Green Lantern soon enough.

Nightwing is the third bat-character to be introduced. With him and Harley that pretty much confirms we will be seeing The Joker on that roster soon. But fingers crossed that we get a ‘New 52′ Red Hood too. Just sayin’ DC.

And now some gameplay courtesy of Gamespot!

Not too long ago it was rumored that Rocksteady Games would be developing a ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ game but it appears that may not be happening. The developers behind the critically acclaimed ‘Arkham Asylum’ and ‘Arkham City’ may have another DC project in the works. According to Variety:

But Variety has learned that WBIE is expected to reteam some of the characters in some form for the next installment in Rocksteady Studios’ gritty vidgame series that began with “Batman: Arkham Asylum” and “Arkham City.”

New, highly stylized title is being developed as a prequel that revolves around Batman’s first meeting with the Joker. It’s based on the Silver Age of DC’s comicbooks from the 1950s when the Caped Crusader teamed with other heroes like Superman and founded the Justice League of America.

I’m all for this especially it if it is taking place within the same universe and further expanding on the already developed stories that we have. Just no DLC like Harely’s Revenge okay?

This is the time of year. San Diego Comic Con is about to begin. This will be my 9th SDCC, and over the years I have developed a keen sense of how to have a crazy fun and pain free adventure into the Geek Mecca. Come with me as I give you some Tips & Tricks from a SDCC veteran. If this is your first year, make sure to check out the guide written up by our own Scott Alminiana! It is perfect for the guy who just doesn’t know what kind of adventure Comic Con is.

First off, the look. Yeah, comic con is the pinnacle of bad fashion and geek T-Shirts. Yeah, it’s okay to wear your 10 year old Joker shirt, but please look tidy. The old, virgin me (literally and figuratively)used to wear the Cargo shorts, Hookups Shirt and Golfing hat. FUCK I thought I looked so fly, but I didn’t. I looked like the comic shop owner from The Simpsons. If you look like an adult, you will be treated like an adult.

Next politeness. Be overly nice. The people working booths are going to be tired and worn thin, so you don’t wanna be THAT guy. Don’t ask a cosplayer to see her tits, even if you had cool Two-Toned hair like I did.

Wanna know what one of the most funnest panels that you don’t think would be fun for the everyday geek? Burn Notice. Or really any of the USA networks panels for that matter. Burn Notice is just Bruce Campbell being Bruce, having fun with the audience and telling funny stories. One year I went to it and he was giving out $20 bills to fans that asked flattering questions. Best part? Everyone in the audience gets a ticket, you go to a secret room hand them the ticket BOOM! Free shirt!

So with most of the common sense out of the way, lets get into the nitty gritty. Preview. Fucking. Night. If you are lucky enough to get into the most exclusive night then you are a lucky goose. First off, DO NOT BRING ANYTHING! The only thing open Preview Night is the convention floor, so it will be packed. The entirety of the attendees will all be sharing the same room together. There wont be a couple thousand in Hall H. There wont be the hundreds hanging out in Ballroom 20. They will all be there with you, cluttering up the main floor. If you have a bag or anything extra to carry, you are going to be bumped, torn and jostled more than an unwanted baby. Do not plan on buying anything either. Yeah, the Death Star collectors set from last year was fucking rad, but I saw a dude literally start crying from having to carry it around the floor for a few hours. Use preview night to check out some of the great booths, like GEEKSCAPE #3919 and pick out some stuff you wanna buy. Do your shopping Thursday or Sunday.

Now we all know the best part of the Con after hours is the fucking parties. There are a shit ton going on all around San Diego. Downtown has a bunch of bars and clubs that cater exclusive events such as the Suicide Girls from years past, after they were banned from SDCC. But you asked “Shane! I am not cool enough to get into some of the exclusive events, an I spent the most of my bribe money on Hasbro Exclusives (Like I am going to). WHAT PARTIES CAN I GET INTO?”. The easiest and cheapest party if you wanna see some cool people, isn’t even a party at all. It is the downstairs lobby bar for the Hyatt just a few blocks away from the convention center. Just wander in and hang out with the important people. This is the place where the famous tussle happened. This is also where I drunkenly yelled at whom I thought to be a random blonde, ended up being Tricia Helfer from BSG. I think I may have called her a stuck up bitch. I can’t remember much from that night.

Now we get to the most important part of the convention. Trying to hookup with hot chicks. Now, for most of you it is going to be a hard task. Most girls hot girls will have their shields up from all the picture requests and just want to head home with good old Mr. Hitachi Magicwand. The dorky nerdy girls will be oblivious to your come ons and more focused on the sweet swag or the KAWAII anime hats. So lets say you strike out preview night. Then Thursday. Then Friday. Saturday morning comes and you are getting desperate. You start browsing Craigslist while in line for signings. You’re getting drastic. Well NEVER FEAR SHANE IS HERE! Most people are aware of the grandiose masquerade. Ballroom 20 turns into cosplay heaven. You will most likely be geared to wandering into the giant ballroom to watch the fun. DO NOT DO THIS! This is a mistake. Instead get into the line dedicated for the ballroom overflow. This will lead you into the Sails Pavilion. Where SDCC has provided you a wonderful room for festivities. They put up a big ass projector and broadcast the costume contest via CCTV for you to see. There are tables, chairs and most importantly BOOZE! The vodka cranberrys they make here are cheap, get you drunk (possibly crunk) and ready for fun. Keep feeding yourself booze until the contest is over. Then you will see the Sails Pavilion turn from modest theater to FANTASTIC NIGHT CLUB! A DJ emerges from the back, the lights go down and the music goes up. What was before a group of conservative and quiet nerds is now a raving mosh pit of drunk party goers. People in costume jumping, dancing and twirling glowsticks is really a sight to be seen. Speaking as an electro DJ, the music is usually pretty good. The best part though is the fruit. The low hanging fruit. AKA the girls who couldn’t get into the Stan Lee party and are bummed out are now drunk and in their slutty Anime Nurse costumes looking for fun. Buy them a Vodka Cranberry, make it a double, and apply dance moves. No one cares how bad you are at it, the only light will be glowsticks and strobes. If you do not care about what kind of costume she is wearing, this is your place to pick up some ladies. This goes to about 1 AM!

PROTIP: Behind the curtains just beyond the DJ booth are more tables. Perfect for an anonymous encounter with a cosplaying lady.

Afterwards if you are still standing, you can find a golf cart and drive it a few blocks to the Hyatt and randomly join up with a BSG tweetup.

So that’s that! Come, have fun, be flexible with your schedule and life will be glorious this weekend. HEY! If you are clever enough with tools, you could make a GoPro mount for your shoes! Perfect for those booth babe photo ops!

There’s been some banners spotted for the upcoming remake of ‘Evil Dead’ featuring a variation of the hand grasping logo from the classic.

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

If you’ve been keeping up on San Diego Comic-Con news you may know that Marvel is announcing a brand new game title. This game will be developed by High Moon Studios who are best known for ‘Transformers: War For Cyberton’ and the upcoming ‘Transformers: Fall Of Cyberton’. Well, it look’s like the monkey is out of the bag on this one. Pun fully intended there. There’s already a website up all but officially confirming that this IS the game we will be getting. Some of you may be sigh’ing but I am all for it. It’s a monkey with guns. Why would you not want to play this?

www.hitmonkeygame.com even includes a link to the Marvel HeroHQ discussion forum.

The character Hit-Monkey was created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić in 2010 and appeared in a three-part miniseries before seemingly being killed at the hands of Deadpool a few months later. Is it likely we will get an appearance by Mr. Wade Wilson himself? I think we all hope so.

So, I was reading an article on LA Times Hero Complex and came to a section where they brought up something really interesting.

Why would Whedon sign up for that? He might not. But it’s intriguing to note that Whedon made the big push to put Thanos in “Avengers” and that Warlock was one of the reasons: ”For me, the greatest Avengers was ‘The Avengers’ annual that Jim Starlin did followed by the Thing ‘Two-in-One‘ that contained the death of Adam Warlock,” Whedon told Slash Film. “Those were some of the most important texts and, I think, underrated milestones in Marvel history.”

With him having set the gears for the movie in motion could it be entirely out of the question for Marvel to pursue him to direct? Especially due to it wouldn’t be entirely new territory for him being that one of Whedon’s best known works is Firefly. Attaching his name and the Marvel studios logo would definitely fill seats. Could Whedon be the perfect choice for this film? We will have to wait and find out during the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con Saturday in Hall H.

Neill Blomkamp (‘District 9’) will be releasing the first look at his upcoming sci-fi flick ‘Elysium’ at San Diego Comic-Con but we have the first look at Damon in the movie for you right now. Yup…Damon is bald in this movie. And what is Chemrail? I don’t know. I will be attempting to attend the panel in Hall H and fill you guys in. Key word: attempt.

Set in 2159, Damon plays a man who takes on a daunting mission in a world where the very wealthy live on the pristine, man-made space station called Elysium, and fight to keep the citizens of Earth from illegally immigrating. Political subtext!

Co-starring Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Alice Braga, Diego Luna and Wagner Moura, “Elyisum” opens on March 1, 2013. Take a look at bigger pic below.

After ‘The Avengers’ hit theaters it was revealed that Marvel had a shot a short film in secret. The short film that will be featured on the Blu-Ray as well as receiving a screening during Comic-Con next week is titled ‘Item 47’. Now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have details on the cast and just what the 12 minute ‘Item 47’ is about and how it is expanding the Marvel universe.

The film is the latest in the company’s series of shorts dubbed “One-Shots,” a comic book term for stories that wrap up in one issue. Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, pictured) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star as a down-on-their-luck couple who find one of the discarded alien guns from the finale to The Avengers — and proceed to make some incredibly bad decisions.

Item 47 refers to the gun itself, which S.H.I.E.L.D. would like very much to retrieve from the hapless young troublemakers. “The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy,” explains Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, who directed the film himself. “So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.”

Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Maximiliano Hernández, returning from Thor and The Avengers, and Lost’s Man in Black Titus Welliver, making his Marvel debut) are given the job of cleaning up the mess and stopping this modern Bonnie and Clyde (not coincidentally named Benny and Claire.)

The goal was to show some non-superpowered people reacting to the aftermath of The Avengers. “Anything that expands the world and shows you the more human elements of it, that just makes the world more colorful and fun for the average viewer,” says Eric Pearson, who wrote the screenplay for Item 47, as well as the previous two One-Shots: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer and The Consultant.

Well it look’s like next week if you are attending San Diego Comic-Con you will be able to snag one of these posters for ‘Iron Man 3’ featuring some of the concept art. Tony Stark? Check. Extremis armor? Check. Awesome? Check.

M. Night Shyamalan has recently wrapped on his post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie ‘After Earth’ starring Will Smith and son Jaden Smith. The film was written by Gary Whitta (‘Book Of Eli’) and we now have our first plot summary.

In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

Did this spark your interest? Going to Comic-Con? Well there will be a panel for ‘After Earth’ you can attend on Saturday, July 14th. . “The SDCC panel will include the film’s screenwriter Gary Whitta and cinematographer Peter Suschitzky, as well as the team behind the tie-in comic book After Earth: Innocence, artist Beni Lobel and writers Robert Greenberger and Michael Friedman. Peter David, author of the After Earth prequel novel, will also be there.”

The surprise twist is that even after all the movies he has made that we hated…we are all probably going to watch this. Let’s hope for the best this time around. I’ll be attending the panel at SDCC and will definitely let you guys know how it looks.

‘After Earth’ hits theaters June 7, 2013.

It seems Latino Review is on a roll. They’re reporting that Legendary will be not only bringing ‘Pacific Rim’ to Comic-Con but also none other than the Tokyo crusher himself…Godzilla!

“Not only is Legendary bringing the Lizard to comic con but get this, I hear the presentation is SICK! I’m not going to get into specific spoiler territory because then what’s the point of attending the panel, but take this one to the bank.

Godzilla will stomp both the audio and video systems within Hall H two weeks from this Saturday! I’ll be there to witness it myself. I can already envision them shutting down the lights, hearing Godzilla’s roar, and the crowd going wild”

Edgar Wright’s next project will definitely be ‘At Worlds End’ but that doesn’t mean he isn’t also working on ‘Ant-Man’. Over the past few days I have had a few bits of ‘Ant-Man’ news that even included a rumor that Edgar Wright will be shooting the post-credits scene for ‘Iron Man 3’. It appears this project may be closer to reality than ever before.

Wright has been hard at work perfecting the script with Joe Cornish. But that isn’t all he has been up to. It’s been revealed that Edgar Wright has spent a week shooting a reel of footage which will be used to test out the look of the film and how the character’s powers will be portrayed on the big screen. With the rumor that we may be getting up to three non-sequel announcements during the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con could it possibly mean we may be getting to see this test reel? Fingers crossed.

Earlier today the internet exploded with excitement (trust me…check Twitter) when it hit that Marvel Studios would be announcing ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ at their San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Well now it seems that Variety has confirmed this report and even announced that the release date would be set at May 16, 2014. It’s also being reported that Nicole Perlman (who previously worked on ‘Thor’) has already written two drafts for the film and Marvel is very happy with her work. Marvel has not officially commented yet.

With a new ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ series as well as a new ‘Nova’ series on the way as well as Guardians appearing in a recent episode of ‘Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes’ and Nova having a recurring role in ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’…this announcement comes at no shock to me. But definitely has me excited more than some of the previously rumored movies that we would be seeing next. We better see some Star-Lord though or I fear Scott Alminiana may stab someone.

It’s not a suprise. After the news of Marvel filling trademarks for ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ it was obvious it was coming. But according to Latino Review (who has been pretty reliable about Marvel Studios news)…it’s coming a lot sooner than we thought. Kevin Fiege has been talking some time now about doing a space epic and now it’s coming.

For those unfamiliar with ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, the comic first appeared in 1969 and was resurrected in 2008. The story centers on a group of alien beings in the 31st century who are each the last of their kind. They eventually travel back in time and interact with 20th century Marvel characters which would most likely be how the movie would end and tie into ‘The Avengers 2’.

It’s reported that we will get an official announcement at the Marvel Studios panel during San Diego Comic-Con in two weeks. We are also told to expect Nova and that the script is “incredible” and will lead up to ‘The Avengers 2’ in 2015. Oh and is Thanos in it? Yes. Yes he is.

Comic-Con 2012 Programming for the Preview Night and Thursday have officially been released on San Diego Comic Con’s official website and there is already a smattering of awesome panels and screenings that my little fangirl mind is about ready to explode from the awesome. I love fantasizing and making schedule mock-ups of the panels I plan to attend (and then going to none of them, due to time and line constraints) each Convention season and this year looks pretty amazing. The worst part, however, is seeing my two favorite subjects being discussed during the same time slot and on opposite sides of the convention hall.

So far, there are two panels I am already squealing with delight for and they are:

Censorship and the Female Artist— Attacks on women’s speech are on the rise in the current cultural climate in realms including politics and pop culture. This panel examines how censorship affects women artists, in realms including library challenges, community dialogue, and the larger cultural conversation. ModeratorAdaPia d’Errico is joined by panelists Anina BennettCamilla d’Errico, and Olivia for a freewheeling discussion of their experiences with censorship and observations on how women’s speech is treated in the cultural conversation.

The Future of Superhero Studies— Superhero scholarship has exploded over the past few years. Professors Ben Saunders (CCI 2012 special guest and author of Do the Gods Wear Capes?) and Charles Hatfield (author of the Eisner Award-nominated Hand of Fire: The Comics Art of Jack Kirby) invite you to join them for a frank, free-spirited discussion of superhero studies: its history, challenges, and possibilities. What has been done in the field, what can be done, and where do we go from here?

Also, I just about cried reading that Stallone will be there Thursday promoting Expendables 2. Regrettably, in Hall H, so I doubt I’ll be able to make it. But, you know, a girl can dream …

Oh, and if there’s time I MAY just make it over to see our fearless leader own the stage with some other awesome and (actually) funny dudes for the Comics on Comics panel that evening:

Comics on Comics LIVE! with Jon Schnepp and Chris Gore— Producers Vito Lapiccola and Juan-Manuel Rocha and The Hollywood Improv host another amazing edition of Comics on Comics LIVE at Comic-Con. Host Jonathan London(Geekscape.net) welcomes the return of fan-favorite writer/producer/director Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, The Venture Brothers), film guru Chris Gore (Attack of the Show, PodCRASH), and the always-controversial comics journalist Rich Johnston(BleedingCool.com) for another hilarious episode of the podcast where the greatest comic minds meet the greatest minds in comics! And if that wasn’t enough, Comics on Comics presents the world premiere of Schnepp’s Grimm Fairy Tales animated trailer, produced in association with Zenoscope Entertainment and funded via Kickstarter.com. Comics on Comics  debuted in 2008 and quickly gained popularity and praise due to its high concept format and memorable guests (including Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, Dark Knight Rises producer Michael Uslan, and DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns). Find out more at www.ComicsOnComics.com.

What about you guys? Please take a look at the panels and let us know which ones you’re most excited about, so we can be sure to cover it!

Marvel continues teasing their next big event “This Is War”. While many fans speculated this could be the Ultron War it continues to look less and less like it. Could they be going against the government? The Punisher?! I’m calling it as The Punisher based on these teasers. Guess we will have to wait and find out at Comic-Con.

Find out more Sunday, July 15th at the Amazing Spider-Man panel, 12:30PM PST, during Comic Con International 2012! Can’t make it to the convention? Follow along on the Marvel Events App & events.marvel.com, the best way to get exclusive videos, real-time announcements from the convention floor and up-to-the-minute panel, in-booth, and signing schedules of all your favorite Marvel creators!

The movie may have been out for awhile now but the viral campaign for ‘Prometheus’ seems nowhere close to being done. First we had the post credit flash leading to people wondering “What is 10.11.12?” And now it seems Weyland Industries will have a presence at San Diego Comic Con.

Project Prometheus

Could this be similar to what Marvel did last year with recruiting S.H.I.E.L.D. agents? Does this tie-in with 10.11.12 in some way? Why is there even more questions even after the movie?! Damn you Ridley Scott. Color me intrigued.
