Geekscape 283: The WonderCon Preview, GI Joe, Luigi’s Mansion and More!

I go a bit nuts on the show this time around, letting everyone know who is Number 1 or will be very soon! Geekscape has an agenda and we’re going to play it to the end! WonderCon is this weekend and you know we’ll be representing on the floor at Booth 953! I talk comics books and what DC books you can afford to drop from your pull lists! ‘Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon’ on the 3DS brings me tons of ghostly fun! Shawn Madden drops by to say that ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ is Triple A Plus Plus! My wife calls up to calm me down and Linder, our new British listener, calls in to talk gardening… and I roll with it! Because gardening rules! PLUS! It’s horn-blowing time!

Check Out Another New TV Spot For ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’!

As we get closer to the release date for Jon Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Paramount has released another action packed TV spot for the film. It’s only a few weeks away and you should know that anticipation levels for the film are high. Because, well…knowing is half of the battle.

 

 

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

3D Preview Of ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ To Be Shown In Front Of ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’

Paramount Pictures has announced today that a four minute preview of exclusive 3D footage from John Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation will play in front of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters in theaters worldwide starting this Friday. Check out the press release below:

HOLLYWOOD, CA (January 23, 2013) – Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with Hasbro, will release a 4-minute preview of the highly anticipated “G.I. JOE: RETALIATION” in IMAX 3D, RealD 3D and digital 3D theaters in advance of Paramount and MGM’s “HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS.”

This first-look at the film will play across the globe beginning January 24th and run throughout “HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTER’S” theatrical engagement.

“G.I. JOE: RETALIATION” is in theaters everywhere in the UK and Ireland on March 27th, 2013.

“HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS” stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as Hansel and Gretel, who, after getting a taste for blood as children, become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches… their past. In addition to Renner and Arterton, the film stars Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare. Written and directed by Tommy Wirkola and produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Beau Flynn.

Featuring quite a bit of new footage and definitely more Channing Tatum, Paramount has released a brand new trailer for Jon Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation 3D.

‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ Director Jon M. Chu In Talks To Direct ‘Masters Of The Universe’

By the power of grayskull! Deadline is reporting that Jon M. Chu, the director of the troubled and delayed GI Joe: Retaliation, is in early talks to direct Masters of The Universe. The movie is set up at Sony Pictures and would be a live-action movie based on the Mattel toy-line  He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Escape Artists entertainment is signed on as producers and is said to have “a strong script turned in by the writing team of Alex Litvak and Mike Finch”. No other details are currently known, but I’m just hoping I get to see some Battle Cat and Orko this time around and that it’s better than 1987’s Dolph Lundgren version.

I think we all  (or at least any kid from the 80’s will) remember that version of Masters of The Universe. I’m sure some people try to forget that one still exists. I loved it as a kid but then again I was 4 years old when it came out so I didn’t know any better. I still love the movie, only now I love it for all the wrong reasons. It’s so bad that it’s good…although Frank Langella was pretty badass as Skeletor!

‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ Posters Give A First Look At RZA As Blind Master

Now while the movie has been pushed back it doesn’t mean they aren’t going to keep promoting it. You will most likely see these above display cases in Hasbro’s area at San Diego Comic-Con next week but we have a first glimpse at them including a first look at RZA as Blind Master.

Some New Stills From ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’

Now i’m sure by now you’ve heard that film has been pushed back to next year but that doesn’t mean Paramount isn’t going to keep pushing the film. Courtesy of ICG Magazine we have some new stills from ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ including a few behind the scenes ones.

The Real Story On The ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ Date Change

So, a few days back I reported on ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ being pushed back and it looks like there’s more than meets the eye here. Wait… wrong franchise. Moving along. We were all told it was so that they could go 3D to pull in a higher international gross. But from the get go there was plenty of people not buying it. Most were positive it was due to ‘Battleship’ sinking and a fear that they would not be able to compete with ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ coming out four days later. Some speculated it was to try and pull in Joseph Gordon Levitt after realizing that once ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ hits… well he’s going to be bigger than he already is.

Well… according to Deadline you were all wrong. Apparently after test screenings Paramount realized they had made some mistakes. Primarily… killing off Channing Tatum. Yeah… they killed him off. Crying fan boys on the internet ACTUALLY got something they wanted and guess what? It turned out bad. Who would’ve thought? Tatum wasn’t a star at all when ‘GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra’ came out. But after he became a ladies favorite with ‘The Vow’ and had one of the most successful comedies of the year with ’21 Jump Street’ they realized a mistake had been made. It became even more apparent when test audiences commented that the relationship between Tatum and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was a “bright spot”.

Sources stated that Jon Chu was “shell shocked” over the release date move. As was Hollywood due to all the money spent on marketing the flick for that date being plastered all over.

Will this affect people going to see it? Probably not. Can this possibly improve the film? I think so. I actually like Channing Tatum (I’m sure now the fan boys shall unite and burn me at the stake) And Ray Park seemed very confident in this movie when I spoke with him at Wondercon. So… lets hope for the best. And look… it just means you can go see ‘Prometheus’, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘Ted’ five more times.
