Briefly: Finally, The Rock has confirmed his collaboration with Shane Black!

It’s not a role in the anticipated Predator film as many fans were hoping, but it might be even cooler. Johnson today took to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to reveal that he’d in fact be playing the Man of Bronze himself, Doc Savage.

Here’s the announcement, straight from the man himself:

It’s OFFICIAL: For all comic book fans you already know the world’s first superhero (pre-dating Superman) is the “Man of Bronze” himself Clark “Doc” Savage.

Want to thank my bud director/writer Shane Black and his writing team Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry for flying in from LA and sitting with me and our Seven Bucks Productions’s producer Hiram Garcia on this Memorial Day weekend to chop up creative and break story on this very cool project.
Comic book fans around the world know that the cool thing about “Doc” Savage is that he’s the inspiration for Superman. First name Clark, called “Man of Bronze”, retreats to his “Fortress of Solitude” in the Arctic etc etc.

Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women’s perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything.
But here’s the #1 reason I’m excited to become Doc Savage.. HE’S A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!

Confidently, yet innocently he has zero social graces whatsoever due to his upbringing so every interaction he has with someone is direct, odd, often uncomfortable and amazingly hilarious.

After speaking for hours w/ Shane Black I can see why the creator of Superman took only the best parts of Doc Savage and leaving the “weirdo” part behind. But to us, it’s that “weirdo” part that makes Clark “Doc” Savage dope! Can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one of a kind character.

He sounds excited as hell, doesn’t he?

Charlize Theron’s days of sitting behind the wheel are not over yet. After a strong 2015, mainly stemming from her role as ‘Furiosa’ in Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron is now ready to test her driving skills in the next Fast and Furious movie.

Universal Pictures and the Emmy award-winning actress have agreed on a deal which would give her a feature role in the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise which is simply called ‘Fast 8’. The film is set to begin principal photography this May and will be directed by F. Gary Gray and will feature returning  cast members Vin, Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, and Tyrese Gibson.

With Charlize Theron joining such an all-star cast, it looks as if Fast 8 has a solid shot of surpassing the success of Furious 7, but what do you think? Is Theron a perfect fit or is she miscast? Let us know what you think!

File this news under “Why?!”. Dwayne Johnson is currently in talks to star in a remake of the 80’s cult classic.

The Rock and his production company, 7 Bucks Entertainment, have been pitching the idea of a remake to Fox. No news or official word from Fox about the status of the talks, but it has been confirmed that X-Men:First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been assigned to the project.

The Rock has said in the past that Big Trouble In Little China is one of his favorite movies. Well thats obvious since he wants to bankroll the remake and star in it!

The original Big Trouble In Little China never was a stellar box office hit, but has become “One of those movies” that everyone from a die hard 80’s fan to the movie geek has seen multiple times.

Be sure to stick around here at Geekscape for more news as the story develops!

When young Dwayne had seven bucks in his pocket and swore he’d never be broke again, he must not have expected that he’d become rich by playing a superhero in a blockbuster Hollywood film. The former Brahma Bull layed the smackdown — on Twitter, because this is 2014 — by finally announcing what we all suspected: He will be Black Adam! But in what? A Shazammovie? Which if it wasn’t Dwayne Johnson we’re talking about here would be bigger news than the casting of the villain.

There’s nothing about a Shazam! movie beyond Dwayne Johnson’s announcement, so Black Adam could very well show up in the upcoming Justice League film. Or maybe there is a Shazam! movie. Either way, this is one strange way to announce a big superhero movie. Who is directing? Who is producing? Who is Captain Marv Shazam? No one knows, but we know Black Adam.

Actually, John Cena would fit right in as the Shazam!

An Untitled But Really Big Superhero Movie comes out in 2017, maybe.

Months of speculation have gone to waste as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has exited the DC cinematic universe to join the widely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an off-handed comment made earlier today, The Rock blamed DC for “moving too slow” and “not knowing what the fuck they were doing” in regards to setting up their much anticipated cinematic crossovers. “It just got to this point where no one could smell what The Rock was cooking.” You can find the full statement below:

Over the past several years, I’ve grown with you all into loving what Marvel has done on the big screen. After being invited to watch a private screening of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I was blown away yet again. So I’m excited to announce that I will be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe as M.O.D.O.K. in the third Captain American film. It’s great to be a part of something larger, especially when this something is the driving force behind super hero films.

Johnson will be joining the cinematic universe as M.O.D.O.K., and is said to be the main villain in the third installment of Captain America. May 2016 couldn’t come sooner!

Briefly: We already know that Emilia Clarke is our new Sarah Connor, and that Jason Clarke is John Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot. Today, Paramount Pictures revealed the new Kyle Reese.

It’s Jai Courtney, who will soon show up in Divergent, and recently starred in I, Frankenstein and A Good Day to Die Hard.

No plot details have been announced at this time (but it’s probably not the awesome sounding 1940’s-1950’s origin story), but as was revealed before, this will be the first film in a new Terminator trilogy.

Is Courtney a good fit for the role? Or is there someone else you’d rather see? Let us know! The yet-untitled Terminator reboot hits theatres on June 26th, 2015!

There is no fate but what we make for ourselves: the Terminator franchise is about to change immensely.

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have just announced that a rebooted Terminator will launch on June 26th, 2015. Set to be the first film in a stand-alone trilogy, the reboot will not be connected to the already established timeline that started with 1984’s The Terminator.

The reboot is yet to sign a director, but Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are currently writing the script.

Interestingly enough, even though Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed earlier this month that he was attached to the project, his role is not mentioned in the press release. Also, being that this is a different timeline and trilogy altogether, it’s unlikely that the rumoured 1940’s/1950’s origin story will actually make it onscreen.

Take a look at the full press release below, and let us know what you think of the news!

x_Terminator_Spas10

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “TERMINATOR” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, “TERMINATOR” will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, “TERMINATOR” spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, “World War Z,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. A 5th installment of in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the “G.I. Joe” franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Master” and executive produced “Spring Breakers” via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” Spike Jonze’s “Her,” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” set for release later this year.

This sounds crazy.

Just a week after Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed his involvement with the next instalment of the Terminator franchise, another potential cast member, as well as some extremely intriguing plot details have been revealed.

Keep in mind that everything here is a rumour, but if true, this could be the craziest Terminator yet.

WWE Examiner has reported that the Terminator 5 script is being developed with Dwayne Johnson in mind, and that the actor is currently being courted for a starring role in the film. Johnson’s a cool guy, and he would fit well in almost any action flick, but that’s not even the most interesting takeaway here. The article goes on to state some apparent plot details:

Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger’s remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today’s standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

That would make an amazing plot twist, don’t you think? We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on this one, as this is one rumour that I’d love to see come to fruition.

Universal Pictures have released a final trailer for Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 and it’s definitely filled with “summer blockbuster awesomeness”. The trailer contains some good looks at the film’s many action sequences that even include Dwayne Johnson dropping some straight up wrestling moves on peopole. The film looks like a fun filled action packed ride that we are definitely going to be on when it hits theaters in a few weeks.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe.  But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez).  The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London.  Payment?  Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

Fast & Furious 6 hits theaters May 24, 2013

Did you really think they were going to end it with Fast & Furious 6? Well, you’d be just plain crazy to think that. The film has already been green lit but Justin Lin made it clear quite some time ago that he wasn’t going to be coming back for the next installment in the franchise. It appears that Universal has found their replacement with James Wan, who directed the first installment in the Saw franchise and Death Sentence as well as directing horror films Insidious and the upcoming The Conjuring. There’s no word at the moment which of the film’s stars will be back for the seventh installment, but you can pretty much count on Dwayne Johnson returning.

A new Red-Band trailer has been released for director Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. The upcoming dark comedy, which is based on a true story, definitely looks like it’s going to be a fun time at the movies.

From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes “Pain & Gain,” a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson and Bar Paly also star. The film is based on magazine articles by Pete Collins, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and produced by Donald DeLine, Michael Bay and Ian Bryce.

Did the Superbowl spot get you hyped up for Fast & Furious 6? Universal has now released the full trailer for Justin Lin’s next installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. Apparently no one sent Lin the memo that franchise’s were supposed to get worse over time, not better.

With the release date just under two months from now, the viral marketing for G.I. Joe: Retaliation is heating up. After a major delay to post-convert the movie into 3D (and trust me…it’s pretty damn impressive post-conversion) and the release of a few new trailers, anticipation levels for the film are very high. Now the viral marketing for the film has been amped up with new posters, commercials and billboards popping up.

This weekend Paramount added a special four minute look at the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation to 3D screenings of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. A low-quality version of the preview has made its way online. The preview footage, which is part of a longer ten-minute Himalaya action sequence, is partially inspired by the classic 1984 story “Silent Interlude” from the G.I. Joe comics and is told entirely without spoken dialogue. If the rest of the movie is anything like this scene, it looks like we’re definitely going to be getting a great G. I. Joe film.

Summit Entertainment has just revealed a new trailer for upcoming action-thriller Snitch. This trailer is actually the first I’ve heard of the film, but it’s definitely on my radar now. Sure it looks formulaic, but the performances look great, and it raises the important question: how far would you go for your kids?

What do you think? Snitch hits theatres on February 22nd.

In the fast-paced action thriller SNITCH, Dwayne Johnson stars as a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a drug distribution crime and is looking at a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years.  Desperate and determined to rescue his son at all costs, he makes a deal with the U.S. attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a dangerous mission — risking everything, including his family and his own life.

Mark Wahlberg & Dwayne Johnson, both extra buff and without shirts? This one’s going to break records.

Paramount Pictures has just released the trailer for Michael Bay’s upcoming Pain And Gain. The film follows Daniel Lugo (Wahlberg) and Paul Doyle (Johnson), two bodybuilders who act out a kidnapping before things go terribly wrong.

As mediocre as Michael Bay films can sometimes be, this one actually looks pretty decent. Check out the trailer below and decide for yourself!

Pain And Gain hits theatres on April 26th, 2013!

Check out the first trailer for Snitch starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson plays a father who, in order to keep his son from going to jail, is forced to work with the feds to take down a drug kingpin. This movie definitely has a good cast and could end up being a fun movie. Or it could end up being one of Johnson’s other not-so-good flicks. We’re going to wait and find out on this one.

Action superstar Dwayne Johnson headlines this fast-paced thriller as a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a crime and is sentenced to 10 years in jail.  In order to clear his son’s name, he dangerously goes undercover and risks everything, including his own life, to reduce his son’s sentence.

The ensemble cast includes Academy Awards Winner Susan Sarandon, Emmy Nominee Benjamin Bratt, and Golden Globe Nominee Barry Pepper.

Inspired by a true story, the screenplay was written by Justin Haythe (THE LONE RANGER, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, THE CLEARING) and adapted by the film’s director Ric Roman Waugh.

Snitch hits theaters February 22, 2013.

Looks like Brett Ratner is set to take on another comic book property. Let’s just hope that this one turns out better than his last attempt!

MGM and Paramount announced today that Ratner has signed on the direct Hercules: The Thracian World, an adaptation of the Radical Studios original graphic novel by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya. The script has been adapted by newcomer Ryan Condal.

Being that the film isn’t set to start production until 2013, not a whole lot is known about it. Dwayne Johnson of course will play the herculean hero, and at this time the film has no other stars attached.

It’s been a rather good year for Radical Studios, as production just wrapped on a film adaptation of their popular property Oblivion. Oblivion has some major stars attached, including Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo.

Are you excited to see Dwayne step into this role? Are you excited that Ratner is taking it on? Is Kevin Sorbo the only real Herc?

The adaptation of the IDW graphic novel Lore may now have it’s director. The property was first acquired back in 2010, and producers were hoping for a Men In Black-style franchise to start with the adaptation. Well, it looks like they’re getting their wish because they’ve got the director being all three of the Men In Black films in talks to direct the film.

Dwayne Johnson signed on to back in April for the film written by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott. It is currently unknown if Sonnenfeld will rework the script before production starts but he has plenty of time. Due to Johnson’s filming schedule it’s likely that production won’t start until early 2013.

A synopsis of the graphic novel:

In times past, the world was full of mythical creatures, creatures long since banished and held at bay by the secret society of Shepherds. But when the generational line of Shepherds is broken, a reluctant hero finds her life threatened from every quarter. And the creatures are coming back…

According to Deadline, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is now attached to the Warner Bros. flick Lore, a movie that is based on the IDW comic by Ashley Wood. Lore tells the story of a world in which mythical creatures have been held back from the modern world by a secret society called Shepherds. But the line of Shepherds has been broken and these creatures are coming back.

For those not familiar with Wood, you might know his work. He is the man responsible for the awesome covers on  30 Days of Night and the artwork in the PSP game Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. I personally have never heard of nor read Lore, but after finding out it’s from Ashley Wood will check out out for sure. Dwayne Johnson and his ‘pop peck of loving’ self will next be seen in G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
