It’s always hard to lose a beloved actor, especially one that could have had at least another 20+ years to give.

Yesterday morning, Actor Bill Paxton died at the age of 61 due to complications from heart surgery. Paxton suffered a fatal stroke Post-op and sadly passed. Paxton was a beloved actor appearing in films such as Predator 2, the original Terminator, and of course Aliens where he delivered one of the films most iconic lines: “Game over man! Game over!” We hear at Geekscape are saddened by the passing and wish his family only the best. It may be game over for him, but his legacy will live on.

If you thought that ROBOCOP was too believable and MANIAC COP’s story was too easy to follow, then boy do the guys have a movie for you! This week, Adam throws the group into robot karate class with 1987’s inscrutable cyborg crimefighting cringer R.O.T.O.R. Unsure why all the strongly-worded suggestions against this pick went unheeded, Matt and Scott grasp at their fraying sanity as Adam teaches his mustache jujitsu. It’s about as 80s action cinema as you can get, so bring your C4 to the newest episode of Horror Movie Night!

In what can only be described as a bizarre announcement, 2K has revealed that movie star, former Mr. Olympia, and the previous Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, will be added to the WWE 2k16 roster as a pre-order bonus.

In previous years, the illustrious pre-order DLC spot went to legends who had up until that point been estranged from the WWE. Starting from WWE 2K12 onwards, each game featured downloads for The Rock, Mike Tyson, Ultimate Warrior and Sting, all of which either had recently came back to the squared circle, or would go on to return in the months ahead in various capacities. With the company running out of wrestlers to mend bridges with, it seems like it was time to call Hollywood. On the plus side, at least we get this awesome trailer which recreates the beginning of Terminator 2 with the current WWE Superstars and Divas!

While it hasn’t happened since Smackdown: Just Bring It 2001, celebrity cameos aren’t foreign to the series. Longtime wrestling fans will remember unlocking Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit as a hidden wrestler in the PS2 brawler, which had to have been the second worst part about it next to the game taking up more than half a memory card of save data. On the plus side, at least The Terminator will look like a convincing fighter, and shouldn’t have a problem reaching the handle bars on his motorcycle, unlike Durst. If nothing else, at least we got an interesting replacement for Hulk Hogan!

Does this announcement sway your decision to pre-order the game? Sound off below and let us know what you think!

WWE 2K16 will release this fall for PS4 and Xbox One.

Briefly: Following the actually-kinda-cool trailer from a few weeks back, Paramount has just debuted five new character posters for Alan Taylor’s Terminator Genisys.

The images feature Sarah Conner, John Connor (in all his spoiler-filled glory), Kyle Reese, and the T-800 and T-1000.

It can’t be worse than Terminator: Salvation, can it? It looks really heavy on the homage, but it could still be fun, right? I don’t dig the whole John Connor is a Terminator thing, and Sarah Connor looks entirely too smiley in her poster, but I do have to say that I’m still looking forward to seeing what the full feature has to offer.

Take a look at the posters below, and let us know what you think! Terminator Genisys hits theatres on July 1st!

When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…

It’s still got a stupid title (which I imagine has something to do with the huge spoiler that’s just been revealed), but Terminator Genisys looks pretty damned cool. The first trailer for the film was clearly made for fans of the franchise, mirroring scenes and quips directly from the first three films (and ignoring Salvation entirely), but today’s new trailer is definitely the one that ‘what the hell’ed me into being excited for the movie.

Here you go:

Yep. It certainly looks as though JC is the bad guy, doesn’t it? Which essentially turns the entire series on its head, which is probably what it needed more than anything. Seeing this, I’d guess that the Genisys subtitle is also the name of the program or experiment that John’s been through to turn him into something more than man or machine.

In any case, I’m down. Terminator Genisys hits theatres on July 1st. How do you feel about it?

The official trailer for Terminator: Genisys is now online.

http://youtu.be/62E4FJTwSuc

Do you love the Terminator series? I mean really, really love it? Because that’s who this movie seems to be targeting. Iconic lines, scenes, characters, and Arnold Schwarzenegger himself are in this new reimagining of the Terminator films, and Genisys is the, excuse me, genesis of a new series. Alan Taylor, director of Thor: The Dark World, will be at the helm of this… I can’t resist, genesis. I’m so sorry! I almost Googled for Sega Genesis pictures.

As for the trailer: it looks good! It’s what you would expect from a modern sci-fi action movie. Things explode and stuff. Yeah, it’s cool!

This new chapter in the franchise will star, besides Arnold Schwarzenegger of course, Emilia Clarke (Yes, Khaleesi), Jason Clarke (no relation), Jai Courtney (just announced for Suicide Squad), Matt Smith (Yes, the Eleventh Doctor), J.K. Simmons (Yes, J. Jonah Jameson), and Lee-Byung Hung (Yes, Storm Shadow). They just took everyone involved in genre franchises, didn’t they?

Terminator: Genisys will be released July 1, 2015. Oh man, 4th of July weekend? It will make so much money.

Briefly: Already feeling mixed thoughts about next year’s Terminator: Genisys? A new batch of images for the film, along with a tiny teaser for a trailer set to release tomorrow, have been released online… and they may not sway you in the positive direction.

Sure, the images look very promo-y, and certainly don’t appear to be stills from the finished product, but to my untrained eye, they look super cheesy, which I’m not overly looking for in an anticipated Terminator film.

The teaser definitely looks better than any of these promo images, but it’s also really hard to judge something from 15 seconds of choice footage (not that we should really be judging the film at this point anyways).

In any case, take a look at everything below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for Terminator: Genisys‘ full trailer!

Briefly: I’m really looking forward to the next Terminator film. It’s got a stellar cast consisting of Arnold Schwarzenegger (of course), Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, JK Simmons, and many more. Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor is at the helm, and the film aims to be the start of a new trilogy that could not possibly end as poorly as the last one.

I’m still excited for the film, even if today it received an official, stupid subtitle. The rumoured title has been Terminator: Genesis for some time now, but now the film has officially been named Terminator: Genisys.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s got something to do with some tech company or similar entity, but still, it sounds pretty silly.

Production on the film has also wrapped, so longtime Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger said the following on his official Facebook page (try not to read it in his voice):

Hasta la vista, baby.
I want to thank the cast and crew of Terminator Genisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup – we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.

Are you a fan of the title? Are you excited for the film? Sound out below!

Briefly: The cast of Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genesis (or whatever it ends up being called) is growing once more.

THR has reported that Spider-Man‘s J.K. Simmons has joined the project as “a weary and alcoholic detective who has followed a bizarre case involving Sarah Connor and robots for more than three decades.”

Little information on the film has been revealed at this point, but we of course know that Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, and Jason Clarke are starring in the film, which will hit theatres on June 26th, 2015.

Are you looking forward to the reboot? Would you have preferred that they’d continued Salvation? Sound out below!

Briefly: We already know that Emilia Clarke is our new Sarah Connor, and that Jason Clarke is John Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot. Today, Paramount Pictures revealed the new Kyle Reese.

It’s Jai Courtney, who will soon show up in Divergent, and recently starred in I, Frankenstein and A Good Day to Die Hard.

No plot details have been announced at this time (but it’s probably not the awesome sounding 1940’s-1950’s origin story), but as was revealed before, this will be the first film in a new Terminator trilogy.

Is Courtney a good fit for the role? Or is there someone else you’d rather see? Let us know! The yet-untitled Terminator reboot hits theatres on June 26th, 2015!

Briefly: The mother of dragons is now the mother of John Connor.

That’s right. Game of Thrones Emilia Clarke has just been cast in Alan Taylor’s Terminator reboot as Sarah Connor.

This is the first official casting news from the project aside from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to the franchise. Deadline reports that Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke is still in negotiations for the role of John Connor.

We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the reboot as further casting is announced. The film is slated to hit theatres in July 2015, so I’d imagine that we’ll hear more very soon.

Do you think the Clarke will be able to stand up to the likes of Linda Hamilton and Lena Heady, or is there someone else you’d rather have seen in the role? Sound out below!

There is no fate but what we make for ourselves: the Terminator franchise is about to change immensely.

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have just announced that a rebooted Terminator will launch on June 26th, 2015. Set to be the first film in a stand-alone trilogy, the reboot will not be connected to the already established timeline that started with 1984’s The Terminator.

The reboot is yet to sign a director, but Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are currently writing the script.

Interestingly enough, even though Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed earlier this month that he was attached to the project, his role is not mentioned in the press release. Also, being that this is a different timeline and trilogy altogether, it’s unlikely that the rumoured 1940’s/1950’s origin story will actually make it onscreen.

Take a look at the full press release below, and let us know what you think of the news!

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “TERMINATOR” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, “TERMINATOR” will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, “TERMINATOR” spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, “World War Z,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. A 5th installment of in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the “G.I. Joe” franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Master” and executive produced “Spring Breakers” via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell’s “American Hustle,” Spike Jonze’s “Her,” and Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” set for release later this year.

This sounds crazy.

Just a week after Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed his involvement with the next instalment of the Terminator franchise, another potential cast member, as well as some extremely intriguing plot details have been revealed.

Keep in mind that everything here is a rumour, but if true, this could be the craziest Terminator yet.

WWE Examiner has reported that the Terminator 5 script is being developed with Dwayne Johnson in mind, and that the actor is currently being courted for a starring role in the film. Johnson’s a cool guy, and he would fit well in almost any action flick, but that’s not even the most interesting takeaway here. The article goes on to state some apparent plot details:

Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger’s remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today’s standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

That would make an amazing plot twist, don’t you think? We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on this one, as this is one rumour that I’d love to see come to fruition.

He told you he’d be back. There’s no official quotes released yet, but Bleeding Cool have reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger will definitely be back for the next film in the Terminator franchise. This news was confirmed by the site while attending the press junket for his latest film The Last Stand.

At first Schwarzenegger wasn’t too sure about doing another film in the franchise but over time he has warmed up to the idea of it and is now fully on board. Schwarzenegger confirmed his involvement with the project as well as the announced Conan movie and a sequel to Twins. This news follows the news of the film finding two new writers. No other details regarding the project have been revealed at the moment.

Pixar illustrator Josh Cooley made a collection of R-rated movie scenes in the style of a kid’s book and named it Movies R Fun. Sadly the book is sold out, but you can buy prints of the scenes here. Can you name all the movies these are from? I know I can. Enjoy!

And not only once but twice. Moviehole is reporting that Schwarzenegger is locked in for two ‘Terminator’ films. The first of which is set to begin filming next year. It also reported that it will continue on from ‘Terminator: Salvation’ which received mixed reviews from fans. Myself I enjoyed ‘Salvation’ and Bale as John Connor and hope they bring Bale, Yelchin and Bryce Dallas Howard back to reprise their roles.

Arnold stated: “I can’t say to much they want it held in secret if you know what I mean, but I will say that next year I will start filming it and it’s going to be one of the hardest films I have ever done I can tell you that already for sure”, Schwarzenegger said “… they have six months set aside just for filming, so I will be training and getting into the best physical shape I possibly can before filming starts. It does follow Salvation although some of the producers and franchise owner were not too happy about the job McG did with it but they felt it was good enough to continue on and they want the fifth and sixth installments to be the closing of the franchise.”

Rumors attached Justin Lin to take over the franchise from McG but his commitments to make more ‘Fast & The Furious’ movies keep delaying the project from going forward. It’s unsure if he is still even attached at this point. Are you ready to see Arnold toss on some shades and a leather jacket again? Or will it just make you shake your head versus get chills when you hear that ‘Judgement Day’ theme?

I have always been a fan of the action genre. When I was 6, I made my first attempt at script writing and wrote a five page Xena/Hercules skit for my friends and I to perform; later I dreamed someday I’d be Sarah Connor and would lead the fight when machines inevitably turned on us (Y2K was obviously a very exciting time for me, as I hoped I would finally fulfill my destiny). I am still aiming to do both of those things, in some capacity, but when I look around at Hollywood today I become forlorn and moderately depressed. Where are our Lucy Lawlesses and Linda Hamiltons of this generation? Nowhere, as far as I can see.

That’s not to say that female action films are dead. With box office successes like Salt and franchises such as Resident Evil, we are bound to see one female-led action-adventure movie every year or two. But are Angelina Jolie and Milla Jovovich really believable in their roles? With Linda Hamilton we had muscles. Legitimate muscles. That’s her doing the one-armed pull ups in Terminator 2. According to this article, Linda Hamilton could pump load a shot gun with one arm from her training and preparation before filming. That’s badass. Seeing Angelina Jolie do it in Wanted, left me expecting her arm to break off from the stress. Watching action movies where I’m afraid that the heroine is going to die of exhaustion (rather than enemy fire) isn’t exciting. It also makes it impossible to see past the actor to the character.

Even her arm needs to eat a sandwich…

Gerard Butler and company completed a ridiculous exercise routine to get their 8-pack abs for 300. Lena Headey, who played Queen Gorgo in the film, may not have been expected to be so fit as her male co-stars (though Spartan women were athletes themselves), but when she took on the shotgun to play Sarah Connor in The Sarah Connor Chronicles, why wasn’t she expected to also take on the muscles? At least Summer Glau could at least say she was a cyborg who just appeared frail to seem less intimidating to her foes (though why a Terminator would want to look nonthreatening is beyond me). Lena Headey playing the human Sarah Connor doesn’t have that luxory. Yes, there was dissonance from fans and critics regarding this contrast in physique that made national news. Yet, this incident is unique: the physique of the action heroine is scarcely ever mentioned, this incident aside. In all likelihood the uproar occurred simply because of her predecessor’s hardcore dedication to the role, and that’s a shame. All female action stars should be put under such scrutiny.  If you’re hired on as an actor to play a character, then it is your job to accurately portray that character on screen and it should be a priority of the director and producers to make sure you’re doing your job. If you’re an action heroine and you’re not pumping iron before principle filming begins, then you’re not doing your job and you shouldn’t get paid millions.

We don’t let men get away with this behavior. It’s a double standard and I find it most disturbing: why do men, when given roles as action heroes, must they hit the gym, devour protein and bulk up to look the part, but women are allowed to look like twigs? Seeing old-man Stallone packing an absurd amount of heat in The Expendables looked just as a genre acceptable and realistic as when he did it 40 years ago for Rambo. Yet, I found it more realistic watching 65 year old Helen Mirren work a Gatling gun in RED than 20-something Zoe Saldana holding a high powered rifle with both hands in Columbiana.

Could beat you in arm-wrestling… easily.

Why are we as audiences allowing this to happen? We won’t watch movies where Russell Crowe is old and fat trying to play a typically young and lithe hero (Robin Hood), yet we’ll watch Milla Jovovich slay zombies for years to come, not at all phased by the fact that her muscle tone has yet to increase.

Of course, to me, this is all a double-edged sword, because American film studios already seem to be against female leads in general, let alone in action in particular. If I stop paying to watch thin, un-toned women fight, will they view it as “oh, we need to beef these women up!” or see it as, “Clearly audiences hate female action stars!” Being the pessimist that I am, it’s probably the latter, and that’s heart shattering to a girl who grew up wanting to fight the good fight and kill half a dozen aliens and terminators while she was at it.

So, I’m writing this. Not just to vent or see if other people see the same way I do or to start a flame war or whatever it is that might happen with an opinion piece that gets posted on a website these days. It’s, in the off chance that this gets out there, that the studios know I exist and there’s something that I want.

Xena: The Female Action Gold Standard… who also wears gold.

I am your audience when it comes to action flicks and I am a woman who actively goes and see action movies. On opening night. I am that demographic, which you say doesn’t exist, but I exist and I am not alone. So if you’re trying to “tap into me”, and if you’re wondering why you don’t always get me into those seats on opening weekends, or why I’m waiting until the Blu-Ray release or for Netflix to stream it, it’s because you’re giving me a product I don’t want. You’re giving me women who are impossible for me to find cool or badass. If I can’t believe your star can throw a punch that will bruise a peach, do you think I’ll believe her when she’s holding two 20lb guns in each hand and firing willy-nilly without feeling any kind of kickback? Not a chance. You have to get me to see the reality first, then you can try to give me the fantasy.
