This morning, 2K announced that The Kingslayer himself, Seth Rollins, will be the cover athlete for WWE 2K18. As the first full time performer to grace the cover in three years, Rollins joins the likes of John Cena, CM Punk, The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin as the featured star for the annual wrestling simulation game.

Seth is appropriate pick considering how the rising star had the biggest win of his career earlier this year when he defeated Triple H with one leg at this year’s Wrestlemania. Following the slogan “Be Like No One”, the former Architect of The Shield takes things a little too far, deciding to destroy some legendary memorabilia. Because that’s what you do when you make the cover of a video game.

Eagle eyed wrestling fans can spot plenty of easter eggs as they get smashed to pieces by the masked Rollins. From Ric Flair’s robe to The Undertaker’s gear that he left behind at his retirement, nothing is sacred when you want to sell a game. But why did you have to smash Brutus Beefcake’s scissors? It’s not like he has much of his glory days to hold onto lately. There wasn’t a barber shop window that Seth could have fled through instead?

While we don’t get to see any game play, we do know when and how we’ll be playing it. Releasing on PS4 and Xbox One on October 17, the game will be released with three different versions. The Standard Edition, the Deluxe Edition, which will give players four days of early access, and the Collector’s Edition, which will include everything the Deluxe Edition contains, plus physical rewards that will be revealed at a later date. Past versions had some pretty great stuff, so fans might want to jump on the preorder button once the announcement is made.

Watch the trailer below and tell us what other artifacts of wrestling’s past you can spot. Are you planning on picking up this year’s iteration? And what do you think of Rollins on the cover? Let us know in the comments!

Briefly: After numerous huge updates earlier this year (like this one and this one), Sony’s Playstation Now cloud gaming service is set for another massive expansion, along with a pretty slick deal for new subscribers.

Sony has revealed that Playstation Now will add 50 new titles tomorrow (50!?), including a slew of 2K gems like Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, The Darkness II, Spec Ops: The Line, and Duke Nukem Forever (okay… that last one is about as far away from a gem as you could get).

Aside from those few titles, the company hasn’t revealed the myriad of games that will hit the service tomorrow. They have, however, revealed a discounted subscription package that should ensure that you never set foot outside this Summer. From tomorrow through July 11th, players in US and Canada can pick up a 3-month Playstation Now subscription for just $29.99, which marks a 33% discount from the subscription’s usual $44.99 price tag.

Yeah, that’s a great deal, isn’t it?

I’m still impossibly far away from grabbing a subscription to Playstation Now, but at this point it’s certainly not for a lack of content. My PS4 and Wii U backlogs continue to grow, and I simply can’t add another generation of missed experiences to that list. In any case, at this point you’re certainly getting your twenty dollars worth with the myriad of titles at your disposal, and Sony often has some pretty great promotions on the service as well. At this point, if you’re looking at dollar per hour of content/fun, Playstation Now would be hard to beat.

Take a look at all of Playstation Now’s 2K titles via the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think of the service!

In what can only be described as a bizarre announcement, 2K has revealed that movie star, former Mr. Olympia, and the previous Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, will be added to the WWE 2k16 roster as a pre-order bonus.

In previous years, the illustrious pre-order DLC spot went to legends who had up until that point been estranged from the WWE. Starting from WWE 2K12 onwards, each game featured downloads for The Rock, Mike Tyson, Ultimate Warrior and Sting, all of which either had recently came back to the squared circle, or would go on to return in the months ahead in various capacities. With the company running out of wrestlers to mend bridges with, it seems like it was time to call Hollywood. On the plus side, at least we get this awesome trailer which recreates the beginning of Terminator 2 with the current WWE Superstars and Divas!

While it hasn’t happened since Smackdown: Just Bring It 2001, celebrity cameos aren’t foreign to the series. Longtime wrestling fans will remember unlocking Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit as a hidden wrestler in the PS2 brawler, which had to have been the second worst part about it next to the game taking up more than half a memory card of save data. On the plus side, at least The Terminator will look like a convincing fighter, and shouldn’t have a problem reaching the handle bars on his motorcycle, unlike Durst. If nothing else, at least we got an interesting replacement for Hulk Hogan!

Does this announcement sway your decision to pre-order the game? Sound off below and let us know what you think!

WWE 2K16 will release this fall for PS4 and Xbox One.

Unless you finally went through with that promise to stay away from the Internet, you’re probably aware that wrestling icon, Hulk Hogan, is in some hot water due to some racially charged comments that recently came to light. Originally recorded as part of the leaked sex tape that (unfortunately), made its way to the public in 2012, WWE preemptively scrubbed every mention of Hulkamania before the story hit the presses late last week.

While not unexpected, it’s still somewhat shocking to learn that 2K is following suit, pulling the former World Champion from WWE 2K16, making it the first game in three years that won’t feature the Hulkster despite being previously announced. In a statement, 2K made the announcement by stating:

“We are highly respectful of the way that our partners choose to run their business and manage our partnerships accordingly,… We can confirm that Hulk Hogan will not appear in WWE 2K16.”

This announcement makes it sound like it was the WWE itself that requested this removal, furthering their efforts to distance themselves from the situation before it gets worse. After previously announcing that the game will feature over 120 unique characters, it’ll be interesting to see who they will replace that extra slot with. Maybe a quick call to Skynet will cover it?

Will this effect your decision to purchase the next installment in the annual WWE release? Or do you think when considering the situation, it’s better off without him? Everyone’s got an opinion, so give yours below!

Briefly: I joined the Borderlands camp way too late, ignoring countless recommendations from friends until long after Borderlands 2 was old news. Then I finally played it at a LAN Party, and was hooked for weeks (or months… a long time in any case).

I first played the game on a laptop, and after playing the title with a keyboard and mouse it would be very hard for me to transition to a controller, but in any case the just-announced Borderlands: The Handsome Collection looks more than intriguing… especially that collector’s edition. And yes, I get that this is yet another remaster of an older game(s) on two console that already have far too many remasters.

The Handsome Collection hits PS4 and Xbox One on March 24th (in the US, international is March 27th), and includes remasters of both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. For the first time (and this is probably the most exciting part) both games will offer four-player local split screen multiplayer, so you can actually play the damned thing on the same couch as the people you’re playing with. Not bad, huh?

You can even transfer your saved games from the last-gem versions.

The Handsome Collection will launch for $59.99, and will also include all of the vast amounts of DLC for both titles. 2K has also revealed a pretty substantial Claptrap-in-a-box edition. Here’s what they had to say about it:

The Handsome Collection will also receive an extremely limited collector’s edition, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition. Limited to only 5,000 units worldwide, the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition includes a remote-controlled Claptrap steward robot that looks just like the in-game character! He is designed and detailed to look just like the Claptrap you know and love – or maybe hate – and now you have the power to control him from your iOS and/or Android device with a companion app called ClaptrApp. The remote controlled Claptrap also includes the following features:

– Gyro technology to balance on one wheel allowing it to move wherever you want him to!
– Voice samples of some of Claptrap’s most iconic lines that can be activated on command!
– A real working camera in his “eye” that is streamed to your mobile phone, so you can see where Claptrap is headed!

The Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition also includes 12 exclusive Vault Hunter lithographs as well as a collectible steel case and will be available for $399 at selected retailers. Act fast, because these things won’t last long! The Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition will be available at participating retailers in North America as well as internationally.

And it looks just as cool as it sounds:

Briefly: I got into the Borderlands craze way (way) late, and am just working my way through Borderlands 2 with some friends now. That being said, I can’t wait to get my hands on The Pre-Sequel… especially not after seeing this freaking rad launch trailer.

Full of Handsome Jack, everyone’s favourite (now playable) robot, and brief introductions to all of our new characters, the trailer shows off a fantastic assortment of loot and co-op action. And one moon wizard. I still can’t believe they took that line out of Destiny.

Take a look at the game’s launch trailer below, and let us know if you’re excited to play! Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel hits Windows, OS X, Linux, PS3, and Xbox 360 tomorrow!

If 2K wanted to send a message with their first fully developed wrestling title under their name, then message received.

For the first time in his long, storied career, Sting, the icon of WCW, (and TNA I guess…), will step foot in a WWE ring! Only in this case, it will be in the video game realm of WWE 2K15 in the form of pre order DLC.

Featuring both the early 90’s “surfer” Sting as well as the “Crow” Sting that would become his trademark look, the wrestling legend will join a roster featuring many of today’s biggest talent, such as cover boy, John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt. Nearly any dream match you’ll ever want to put together can now be possible, even the long clamored for showdown between Sting and The Undertaker. Considering recent events, that might be the closest we’ll ever get to actually seeing the match play out!

But what makes this announcement more interesting is that after years of staunchly avoiding the WWE, this is the first official appearence he’s made for the company since becoming a free agent last year. Aside from an unannounced ten second clip about the Ultimate Warrior after his passing, (RIP), seeing new Sting content in anything related to Vince McMahon’s company is sure to excite wrestling fans both new and old. Besides, everyone who’s appeared before signing a contract in the past, (Brock Lesnar, Ultimate Warrior), have returned within that year. Can the same be said for Sting? Only time will tell, but I’m crossing my fingers.

Check out Sting’s reveal trailer below and let us know if this will sway your decision to step back into the ring. WWE 2K15 will release for both current and last gen consoles this fall!

2K Games has announced that its first foray into a wrestling ring with WWE 2K14, which will hit stores on October 29th for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

When THQ filed for bankruptcy, many of its franchises were up for grabs, including the WWE line of games. The future of the series was anyone’s guess until 2K grabbed hold of the license, bringing a sense of gaming legitimacy better than a returning Brock Lesnar ever could.

But it’s hard to be excited when we’ve seen nothing of the game, and that’s what I really want! Rumors suggest that The Rock (Dwayne Johnson?) will be on the cover and the game will still be developed by the Japanese crew at Yukes, so I’m thinking that things won’t change much gameplay wise. 2K promises that the game “will combine the studio’s signature gameplay with 2K’s commitment to authenticity.” Considering 2K is one of the leaders in sports gaming, the idea of their presentation within a WWE package sounds exciting, even if it’s not really a “sport.”

Check back with Geekscape.net as details unfold, most likely at this year’s E3.
