As a teenager I would watch Matt Pinfield on MTV’s ‘120 Minutes’ every week as he introduced me to new rock, metal and alternative bands. It was one of the highlights of the week and opened me up to so much of the music I listen to today! Now, fast forward to today and Matt shares a studio with me at Westwood One, where I record Geekscape every week! Now Matt and I share the studio at the SAME TIME as we talk rock history, rock’s influence on comic books (and vice versa), Matt’s amazing career in music and the music you should be listening to right now. Beyond have an encyclopedic knowledge of music, Matt is also one of the nicest people I’ve ever had on the show with some amazing stories to boot! Enjoy!

When you think horror, do you think Robin Williams in Aladdin? If so, you’re in for a treat, because we’re talking killer genies with 1987’s The Outing! The Wishmaster he’s not, but this genie has some serious power creep going on, yet chooses the laziest, most bizarre ways to kill whomever he comes across. This is the most menacing antique lamp you’ve ever seen, and you’ll rethink your next trip to the history museum after watching it, so strap in as we grant your deepest, darkest desires in the most idiotic ways possible on this episode of Horror Movie Night!

As you may have gathered from our Jason Takes Manhattan episode, we did a live taping recently after Monster Mania 36; in the likelihood that you, dear listeners, weren’t able to make it to the live show, we were thoughtful/sadistic enough to tape the show, and this week’s episode is the second half of our set, in which we lovingly eviscerate 1991’s ironically-named “final” installment in the NOES franchise, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare! The hits come faster and harder than Breckin Meyer doing bong rips, so get yourself a drink and fire up your Powerglove for another episode of Horror Movie Night!

Holy tomato, we’re heading back to the days of paper classified ads, genuine interest in music videos, and the seductive lure of satellite television! That’s right, we’re going intergalactic and eating everything with 1986’s TerrorVision. The French exchange student from Better Off Dead, the Wolfman from Monster Squad, and Beef from Phantom of the Paradise do their best to avoid becoming space monster poop, and the HMN guys do their best to find something, anything critical to say about this charming 80s time capsule. Now, mother’s going to make you take your pill so we can all enjoy Horror Movie Night!

Picture this: you and your best bro (and the rich geek you talked into driving) are hanging out in a seedy strip club, trying to pick up a lady of the night to take back to the frat house for a party. Through the sea of writhing bodies, stale booze and impermeable shame, you see Grace Jones do the most inhuman, bloodless interpretive dance on stage. You must have her. Forget the hot girl you kissed in junior high! Grace Jones or GTFO! This is the plot of 1986’s horror comedy Vamp, so turn off your brains and let the body fluids flow as the guys discuss vampire mythos, 80s racial stereotypes and poorly-pronounced stripper names – it’s Horror Movie Night!

I love this episode! Filmmakers Corey Landis and Roger Lay Jr. grew up, like many of us, with the iconic 80s cartoon and action figure ‘He-Man’! This was our childhood! But then, not only did we grow up… but He-Man kind of disappeared from the cultural consciousness, replaced by Transformers, GI Joe and Ninja Turtles! What was the story behind He-Man anyways? He seemed to be the first of all of these cartoon/toy powerhouses. Well, Roger and Corey’s documentary ‘The Toy Masters’ explores all of those questions and more! It’s a great film and we have both of them on the show this week to talk about all things Masters of the Universe! Enjoy!

Close your mouth and open your ears, cuz this week’s discussion is Night of the Creeps! Our guest Don waxes poetic about houseboats and his future robot upgrades, while Adam realizes he has handicap blindness. Zombified douchbags in tuxes, reanimated axe murderers, and the cop from Dr. Giggles make an appearance, so leave your human brains (they’re for a project) in the basement and join us for Horror Movie Night!

File this news under “Why?!”. Dwayne Johnson is currently in talks to star in a remake of the 80’s cult classic.

The Rock and his production company, 7 Bucks Entertainment, have been pitching the idea of a remake to Fox. No news or official word from Fox about the status of the talks, but it has been confirmed that X-Men:First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been assigned to the project.

The Rock has said in the past that Big Trouble In Little China is one of his favorite movies. Well thats obvious since he wants to bankroll the remake and star in it!

The original Big Trouble In Little China never was a stellar box office hit, but has become “One of those movies” that everyone from a die hard 80’s fan to the movie geek has seen multiple times.

Be sure to stick around here at Geekscape for more news as the story develops!

Next weekend I’ll be attending RetroCon in Oaks, PA so to prepare I sat down and spoke to Rosemary and Tony Tuski who founded the convention. We talked about the history of the convention as well as horror movies, toys and all things 80s. For more information check out their website at www.retrocons.com

The song playing during the intro is I Am The Living Dead by Harley Poe off their album Satan, Sex and No Regrets.

Here’s a clip from the Lion Forge Comics panel at the 2013 Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo in which my editor Shannon Denton and I talk a bit more about what’s coming up in our Miami Vice comic book series! Is it in continuity? What characters will be included? What’s being changed and what’s staying the same? And of course, will there be any sex? Rampage Jackson himself (who was sitting next to me during the panel) chimes in on that one!

It’s time to talk about the horror movie ‘Rabid Love’ with writer director Paul J. Porter and star Hayley Derryberry! What 80s horror films did they use as inspiration and what were the challenges in putting together this small budget, indie horror film? Paul and Hayley’s friend Kimberly Wong comes on to talk about Coachella, take a few Instagrams and share in the passion! Matt Kelly rings up to talk the best death’s in the Friday the 13th movies and how Prophecy still rules supreme and Allie Hanley tells everyone to go see ‘Oblivion’, ‘Defiance’ and ‘DaVinci’s Demons’! We talk the awesome new ‘Man of Steel’ trailer and Shawn Madden makes sure to put all rumors about an expanded DC cinematic universe to rest! PLUS! We all meet American Bob!

This is amazing news for all the Manimal fans out there!

Not a fan? Never heard of it? Lets refresh your memorythe opening narration of each episode went as follows.

Dr Jonathan Chase… wealthy, young, handsome. A man with the brightest of futures. A man with the darkest of pasts. From Africa’s deepest recesses, to the rarefied peaks of Tibet, heir to his father’s legacy and the world’s darkest mysteries. Jonathan Chase, master of the secrets that divide man from animal, animal from man… Manimal!

Manimal was an adventure series from NBC about a shape-shifting man who fought crime. It lasted for 8 episodes during 1983, and was likely never thought about again. Until now!

THR has reported than Manimal may soon be hitting the silver screen. Sony Pictures Animation have picked up the rights, and are planning a CG/Live action hybrid based on the forgotten shape-shifter.

The creator of Manimal, Glen Larson is even involved, and will serve as producer on the film. Sony is currently looking for a writer for the project, so maybe it’s time to dust off that fan fiction!

Are you down with the Manimal? Or is Hollywood simply running out of things to remake?

Going to be redecorating soon but none of the blinds out there really jumping out to you? Well, the UK based Direct Blinds have come to save the day! When I heard that we wouldn’t see much blood in this movie (thanks Chuck!) I became worried. But this clip right here has calmed my doubts because there definitely is some blood getting splattered.

“The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross, Lee Christmas, Yin Yang, Gunnar Jensen, Toll Road and Hale Caesar — with newest members Billy the Kid and Maggie aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….”

‘The Expendables 2’ hits theaters August 17th.

If you haven’t played ‘War For Cybertron’ by now you’re missing out on what is hands down the best ‘Transformers’ game out there. Well… High Moon Studios are back with their follow up ‘Fall Of Cybertron’ (Their ‘Dark Of The Moon’ game was so rushed and sloppy that I ignore its existence) and here’s a look at the epicly awesome Metroplex heeding the call of the last Prime!

‘Fall Of Cybertron’ transforms and rolls out on August 28, 2012.
