Ever since the death of Satoru Iwata 2 years ago, the tribute and appreciation for a founder/CEO of a company dying hasn’t been that big, but it just got a bit bigger again.

Masaya Nakamura, the founder of Namco and most often credited as the creator of Pac-Man (right beside Toru Iwatani) has sadly died at the age of 91. No cause of death has really been confirmed, so it’s safe to assume that he just died of old age. Nevertheless, we’ll never forget all that you’ve done for this industry Mr. Nakamura. Hopefully Namco and Pac-Man continue to produce many more great games in the future.

 

October always means a busy month for gaming, with the holiday release schedule being in full swing. With so many hard hitting games, Rumble seems to be a fitting theme for the month. To celebrate the release of Titanfall 2, as well as paying tribute to some other great games from past to present, Loot Gaming has some surprising items to reward our fandom. Without further ado, here’s what we’ve got!

Starting with two original items for the Rumble crate, a pin commemorating the month shows two boxing gloves clashing with “October 2016” being engraved at the bottom and “Rumble” at the top. The included poster sets the scene for a futuristic battle, while the back details all the goods that have arrived for the month.

Prepare for Titanfall. Titanfall 2 is the major new release being focused on this month with a new T-Shirt featuring the silhouette of a Titan and its pilot. Simple, but recognizable enough thanks to the iconic mech in the background, we’ve found out shirt of choice when its time to hit the battlefield.

Taking a more villainous turn for our other clothing options for the month, we’ve got not one, but TWO accessories that will surely keep us warm with the fires of hatred they both exude. First, Dr. Eggman may not be able to defeat the world’s fastest hedgehog, but at least his hands will be nice and cozy with these Game Over gloves. These are great, but the biggest surprise of the crate came from the pair of Toon Ganondorf socks courtesy of Bioworld. Wind Waker is my favorite iteration of The Legend of Zelda, so full length Ganon socks would be something I’d buy on their own. Knowing that, my enthusiasm when I saw these resting in the box went through the roof. All it’s missing is a slot in the forehead.

Going from a pair of classic villains to one that’s captured the hearts of our meme filled modern times, Reaper from Overwatch arrived as an adorable Funko Pop figure! I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the brand, mostly because the vast majority look identical. This is why when one comes along that has extra detail, it catches my attention even more. Reaper is one of these cases, with a unique mask and well crafted shotguns that look like they could be straight out of a Play of the Game, it’s close as to whether this or the Ganonforf socks win best item for the month.

What easily wins the prize for the strangest item this month is this box of Pac-Man adhesive bandages. Wondering why one would ever need these outside of the inevitable moment when a giant yellow ball eats your finger, the back of the poster made everything clear. This month, if you show off your rumble wounds by getting creative with your bandages, you’ll have a chance to win a Wii U and a copy of Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. With the console ceasing production this week, you might want to jump on the chance to win it, especially because Pac-Man himself is in it!

To round out the line up, we can’t talk about retro heroes or Smash Bros without mentioning Mario. Now the plumber can go wherever you want with this Mario magnet. Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 feels familiar, but plays completely different to it’s  DX and original counterparts released 9 years ago. While some core mechanics have changed, it still results in an incredibly fun and addicting game that you won’t be putting down any time soon. Championship Edition 2 changes up some things to appeal to newcomers, but still retains what makes it so loved by gaming veterans.

Championship 2 is split into 2 modes. Score attack mode is as you remember it from the original. It’s fast paced, heart pumping and dangerously addicting. Bandai Namco did however make a few tweaks to the formula so that there’s still a bit of a learning curve even for vets of the series. Ghosts aren’t an instant kill anymore, instead, depending on what difficulty you’re on, you can bump into them as many as 3 times before enraging them to chase you. Not only that, but ghosts will also flee in a certain pattern when you collect a power pellet. These changes allow for more risk taking, and while it may be harder to catch ghosts with the pellet now, it feels much more satisfying.

 

There are also other new additions such as Jump pads appearing on some courses that can shoot you horizontally or vertically across the field, or Fruit and Power Pellets that start running away from you at higher difficulties. This adds a great new layer of strategy for people already familiar with the Championship Edition formula as it gives them something new to learn

 

The other mode is Adventure Mode. While this may sound new, it’s nothing more than a name change as these are simply the time trial mazes now separated into their own mode. All you have to do is collect the required fruit before the time runs out. While fun and easy on lower settings, get ready to sweat bullets if you crank up the difficulty to pro mode, as you’ll have only seconds to beat the levels on top of trying to chase the aforementioned moving fruit and pellets.While t

 

Now, while this is just a fancy re-skin of the time trial mode, Adventure does add something new in the form of boss battles. At the end of worlds, if you’ve collected enough stars, you will be granted access to a boss fight in which you’ll go up against a giant ghost where the only way to defeat it is by collecting 1-ups and eating the runaway fruit. I found these levels very enjoyable and a nice change of pace as I continually planned out my strategy every time I’d have to try again.

Graphics in the game are very nice. Just like the original Championship games, you’re allowed to tweak the look of Pac-man, the ghosts, the mazes, and even the background and music. Everything from classic arcade to Pac Mania and even a few non Pac-Man surprises (some of them you might DIG.) Music is also superb as the game gives you some really nice techno remixes including a great remix of the main arcade theme that would perfectly fit right at home during a rave party.

If there’s really anything to complain about I guess it’d have to be that when you first boot up the game, it forces you into a mandatory tutorial to teach you the basics before it even lets you play. I can understand having it for newcomers and to introduce new mechanics, but it could have been handled better for people who just want to jump into the game. Maybe give them an option to skip it next time. Other than that, there’s not a lot to hate about the game.

In conclusion, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 successfully brings new players into the series while also giving long lasting fans something new to learn. The visuals and music are nice and crisp, while the level layouts are very expertly crafted. If this is your first time coming into the world of Championship Edition, then welcome to madness. For those returning though, Welcome back.

Comic con may have ended almost a month ago already, but that won’t stop us here on the site from posting more about it!

While attending preview night, I had the pleasure of getting to try out Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 which had been announced earlier that same day. For those not in the know, Pac-Man Championship Edition was a very popular downloadable title for XBLA, PSN, and Steam back in 2007. it became so popular and well known that the game even received an upgraded version 3 year later with Championship Edition DX which added more mazes, ghosts, modes, and more!

From what I got to play so far, I can easily say that Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 has added and changed up so much stuff, but yet, still feels just as fun and familiar as it did 6 years ago. The gameplay is simple, traverse through a maze for about 5 minutes trying to eat as many pellets, fruit, and ghosts as you can. In the demo I played they introduced a brand new mechanic to the game, bounce pads.

While it may seem a bit of a small addition on the outside, these bounce pads really change up the game. Running onto one will propel Pac-Man in an arc to a corresponding bounce pad. In fact, a lot of the pellet trails will have you weaving in and out of the bounce pads as you flawlessly dodge ghosts. Speaking of ghosts, they’ve gotten quite the change.

Now, the main ghosts still act as they do. You hit them you die, but, the surrounding ghosts have changed quite a bit. The secondary/side ghosts are now a bit more transparent and actually don’t kill you. Instead, they’ll attach themselves to the main ghosts and follow you from there. You can also bump into the ghost line to make the ghost bigger. There are also some really cool instances this time around where if you eat a long ghost trail after getting a power pellet, the game will show a dynamic camera angle of Pac-Man absolutely destroying the ghosts, and it’s just as satisfying as it sounds.

Pman CE 2 ghost trailOverall, from what little time I had with it, I was very impressed by how much similar, but different Championship Edition 2 really is. The best part is that the release of the game is only about a month away! The game will launch in the U.S on September 13th 2016 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The NES Classic Edition will allow players to save, suspend, and restart their games at any time, so those days of starting a stage over from scratch are now a thing of the past. Additionally, those who own the Wii Classic Controller of the Wii Classic Controller Pro will be able to use them on the NES Classic Edition.

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime says, “We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo’s original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place. The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is dieal for anyone who remembers playing the NES, or wants those nostalgic memories to the next generation of gamers.”

With a $59.99 MSRP, the NES Classic Edition will undoubtedly be a hot item this holiday season.

Michel Ancel, the creator of Rayman, has recently created his own Mario level to challenge Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka themselves to beat it. The level entitled Pac-Mario is an obvious, but really cool tribute to the classic arcade version of Pac-man which is one of Mr. Miyamoto’s favorite games.

Do you want those wave 4 amiibo, but value your sleep, time and dignity? Amazon might have you covered!

Despite Amazon’s international branches taking pre-orders for the latest round of figure hell, North America bypassed the whole system, instead deciding to release the latest set on release day in increments. By limiting each character to one per person and making the formal announcement the day prior, it’s obvious that Amazon wants to give its shoppers an equal chance to make their purchase, (in the middle of the day, no less!)

Promising to work with Nintendo to secure more stock, this hopefully won’t be the last time Amiibo hunters can turn to the online retailer for their wave 4 needs. Let’s just hope that future waves are approached in a similar manner, making late night lineups a thing of the past!

If you thought that Super Smash Bros. has ran its course, think again. During yesterday’s hype filled Nintendo Direct, the company had a ton of news to share for the blockbuster fighter, much of which was completely unexpected.

First, if you’re one of the people who have been waiting on baited breath for the Mewtwo DLC that was announced late last year, you won’t have to wait much longer. For those who registered their copies of the game for both the Wii U and 3DS, the legendary Pokemon will be available for download at no extra charge on April 15th. For everyone else, they’ll have to fork over $3.99 for one game, or $4.99 for both and wait until April 28th. Check out its reveal trailer below, including its Final Smash, complete with its Mega Mewtwo Y form and its signature Psystrike attack!

Next, also on April 15th, Mii Fighters will receive the downloadable costume treatment. Highlights of the first set of outfits include a Link costume, a Majora’s Mask headgear item, Dunban’s duds from Xenoblade Chronicles, Mega Man X and Protoman costumes, along with Smash T-Shirts, cat suits and monkey suits, (seriously, what’s with Nintendo’s animal suit obsession these days?) Each item has four download options, at either $.75 each, $1.15 each for both the 3DS and Wii U versions, or $6.00 and $9.20 for the entire set for one or both consoles.

Third, and easily the biggest surprise to come out of the Smash Bros. news wave, is that Lucas is making his big return! The protagonist of Mother 3 and formerly cut Smash Bros. Brawl newcomer is returning, with most of his moves seemingly intact. Will he get a new Final Smash, different pricing from Mewtwo or any other major changes? We have no idea! What we do know, is he will be released in June and his reveal trailer is pretty sweet. Check it out!

And lastly, if Lucas and Mewtwo aren’t your favorites and you think you could come up with a better downloadable roster, now’s your chance! A trip over to the official Smash Bros. website links to a poll where you can write in who you would want to appear as future DLC for the title, with a deadline of October 3rd.

Our own Eric Francisco has urged us to write in Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes, but we have enough sword users! If you don’t write in Ray MK II from Custom Robo, Chibi Robo from, well… Chibi Robo, or Issac from Golden Sun, then we can’t be friends. I mean sure, Issac has a sword, but at least his character model is complete as a former Assist Trophy and would have unique Psynergy attacks. At the very least, vote Starman from Pro Wrestling! A winner can never be you without him! Then again, while the site says one vote per person, there’s nothing actually stopping us from voting more than once. Just saying…

Remember when gamers everywhere were whining and groaning that the Wii U didn’t have any games?

Oh, they’re still saying that?

Have they seen the console’s library of freaking exclusives?

Well, Nintendo is about to add another universally-acclaimed title to their roster, and if trends continue, maybe opinionated gamers won’t deem the Wii U such a failure for much longer (well, they probably still will for some reason, but I still love the thing).

Enter Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Now, we’ve all been playing Nintendo’s stellar mobile edition of Super Smash Bros. for nearly two months. Many of us have been through blisters, weeks of strained eyes, broken circle pads, or far worse, so I was beyond looking forward to giving my hands (and my overused 3DS) a much needed break. I grabbed my Pro Controller (which never, ever needs charging apparently), popped in the disc, and instantly witnessed near perfection.

The 3DS edition is almost perfect as it is (aside from a few sub-par modes), but the fact that I could play a match and not want to re-enact the end of Saw on my hands (it would be a less painful alternative, clearly) solidified the Wii U version’s greatness. The beyond-cramped screen and where-did-I-go characters are gone, and seeing our favourite fighters and the beautifully designed stages on a bigger screen and in full HD is an absolute treat. It’s totally silly, but I often find myself pausing (single-player of course) matches at choice moments, panning and zooming the camera, and simply basking in just how freaking beautiful everything looks (and it looks even better in glorious 60FPS motion). Right from the menus, to the backgrounds, to the arenas themselves (a huge 46 stages) to the characters (of which there are 51) and trophies, it would be impossible not to call Super Smash Bros. strikingly gorgeous.

Aside from the (again, stellar) presentation, this edition of Super Smash Bros. adds to the already expansive list of features contained in the 3DS release. Nintendo actually detailed 50 interesting facts about the Wii U version a few weeks back (if you’ve got half an hour, check that out below), but by far the biggest addition to the title is the insanely fun and insanely frustrating 8-player Smash. If you’ve ever thought that four-player Smash Bros. was sometimes too hectic, you will not have a second to even breathe when you double the participants. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a total blast, but in playing this mode with seven lucky friends, we experienced countless “where am I” and “what the heck happened” moments. And then there’s the damned ‘Great Cave Offensive’ arena, where the frustration grows exponentially whenever a fighter leaves the pack (the stage is HUGE). Still, playing with up to eight players means that none of your real-life friends ever have to sit out (nobody has more than seven friends, right?), and the mode is so damned hectic (especially with items on) that someone who has never or rarely played Smash Bros. still has an opportunity for victory, even against a seasoned veteran (I witnessed this many, many times). Of course, to be able to experience 8-player Smash, you need a lot of controllers, which segways me right into one of the coolest aspects of the title (and most first-party releases in general): the controller options.

Nintendo has released a lot of controllers in the 13 years since the GameCube came out. You’ve got the classic GCN controller, the sought-after WaveBird, Wii Remotes, Wii Motion + Remotes, Nunchuks, Classic Controllers, Pro Classic Controllers, Wii U Gamepads, Wii U Pro Controllers, and I’m probably missing a few in that list too. It’s pretty incredible to note that (with an optional adapter to go back to the GCN days) that all of these controllers and attachments are compatible with Super Smash Bros. This means that if you or any of your friends own a Nintendo controller from the last 13 years, you’re set. That’s amazing, and between a group (especially of eight people) it should not be hard to get an entirely full game going. You can even force one of your friends to use a 3DS as a controller if you really, really hate them. My only wish for the GameCube support and optional adapter is that the extend it into other titles down the road. I get that it’s the preferred method of input for competitive Smash play, but what if any game that could feature the Pro or Classic controllers could also utilize the GCN pad?

I think that the thing that I love most about Super Smash Bros. is that I can be completely terrible at it and still have a smashing good time (it was as hard to type that pun as it must be to read it). I’d consider myself a Smash Bros. beginner (aside from this title, I’ve put less than 8 hours into the franchise), and yet, even while playing against friends who have put an uncountable amount of time into the series, and who describe ‘advance techs’ and other mechanics that I can’t even begin to understand, I still have fun. These people absolutely destroy me, each and every match we play, and yet I’m never at a point where I’ve had enough. It’s an incredibly balanced title (or so it seems to this n00b), and each time I’m knocked out, I feel it completely justified. I can see the wrong direction or button that I pushed, I can see the counter my opponent had ready, I can see that my timing was off. It’s alway frustrating to be blown off the map, but it’s also always fair, which is something that I feel a lot of games miss out on these days.

Smash is also an extremely simple title to grasp the basics of. Simply watching the game’s short tutorial video is enough to get you off the ground (pushing or flicking the analog stick in different directions will all lead to different attacks, etc.), and it’s such an easy to understand title that I can imagine a few young children who would very quickly be able to surpass my ability. On the flipside, the game can be as complicated as you want it to be, and if you plan on playing competitively, prepare for it to get really complicated, really fast. The fact that I can hand a controller to a 100% non-gamer and within a few minutes see them smiling and throwing punches is a pretty powerful thing. In fact, at the end of a long night of local multiplayer, instead of hearing a “well let’s never do that again” I was instead asked “so when are we playing again.” It’s pretty amazing that a single game can do this, and especially a fighting game, which I always found to be the most frustrating and non newbie friendly genre of them all.

Multiplayer is obviously key in a game of this genre, but that doesn’t mean that there’s not a lot to love when you’re playing by yourself. The always fun Classic Mode, where you fight a ton of dudes and then fight a really hard dude (and you can totally scale the difficulty to earn more gold) is still present, as is the timeline-spanning All-Star Mode. Smash Tour is a boardgame-style mode that has you collecting fighters and power-ups (starting a battle with an item in-hand for instance) that starts out convoluted but ends up being pretty fun whether you’re alone or with friends, while the extremely-welcome Events have you completing super-specific and sometimes super-challenging tasks. I’ve nearly thrown my controller more than a few times playing that mode, so maybe you should use a wrist-strap for that one (you should definitely use a wrist-strap for that one). As always, there are tons and tons of collectibles to get your hands on, which should leave completionists beyond busy for quite some time.

Another issue that Nintendo has solved in this iteration is that fact that younger players may not have the slightest idea where some of these characters are from. To help (and to again help with those nostalgic feelings for us older players), Nintendo has built in three-minute demos of a lot of their classic titles. It’ll probably make them a ton of money too, seeing as all of these titles are available on the Wii U eShop (and have handy buy links after the demo times out). It was a very cool experience to be able to jump into the SNES F-Zero when a friend asked “What the heck is Captain Falcon from?”… and then immediately jump back out because that game is impossible.

It’s hard to put my finger on what really does it for me here; whether it’s the insane roster of classic and recognizable characters (and Shulk), or that warm nostalgic feeling I get from each and every stage, or maybe it’s that I really like collecting things and there’s seemingly no limit to the collectibles in this game. It could also be the fact that Nintendo has again developed another knockout that I can experience while sitting right beside my friends: they can swear at me in person instead of over a mic, and that’s a major oversight of most games these days. Whatever it is (it’s more than likely a culmination of all of these things and more), I’m absolutely enamoured with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and with the revelation of DLC and the idea that bugs can be patched (sorry advanced tech-ers), as well as its sheer addictiveness, people are going to be in love with this game for a long, long time. Me included.

Briefly: The second iteration of Super Smash Bros. this year is finally almost here! We’ve all been absolutely destroying our fingers and joysticks in locations we’d never even dreamed of for well over a month at this point. In just a couple of weeks, it’ll be time to bring the fight home (and add four more players and a ton of new modes) and give those sore fingers a rest… Or, you know, make them even more sore on a different controller.

Today, the opening cinematic for the Wii U edition of the game has made its way online, and it’s going to make the next couple of weeks of waiting very, very hard (for you guys, my copy should arrive later today). The video shows some choice footage from all of the game’s many characters, and at its core is simply a fun and exciting watch.

Briefly: We’re all so busy playing Super Smash Bros. for 3DS that we almost forgot that the Wii U edition existed. But it does. And now we know when we’ll actually get to play the sure-to-be-just-as-addictive home console version.

Nintendo revealed today that Super Smash Bros. will launch for Wii U on November 21st, along with the first wave of Nintendo’s Amiibo figures. The first wave consists of Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth, while the second wave that launches in December includes Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon.

Basically what Nintendo is saying… November and December are going to be expensive as hell.

The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. launched just a few days ago in North America, but it’s doing very well. “Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is already in the hands of more than 2.8 million people worldwide, and the road ahead looks great,” said Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s vice-president and general manager. “Nintendo’s holiday software lineup is more than impressive, and our amiibo figures start a new chapter in the world of Nintendo interactive entertainment. With so many great experiences available, this holiday season is going to be an amazing time to be a Nintendo fan.”

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS hits stores on October 3rd.

Briefly: Following the reveal of Chrom, Lucina, and Robin late last month, another fan-favourite fighter has just been confirmed for the upcoming iterations of Smash Bros.: Meta Knight!

Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai revealed the news on Miiverse earlier today, stating “Looks like there was an impostor in the earlier posts, so I introduced him to my sword!” …I’ll leave it up to your imagination if he really said that or not. The veteran hero, Meta Knight, returns to battle!! We didn’t forget the Battleship Halberd either!!”

Sakura continued, detailing one of the character’s special moves: “Meta Knight’s Up Special Move, Shuttle Loop, changed quite a bit in this game. The glide is gone, and the attack slashes opponents twice while spinning in a large loop. This has turned into a highly technical and effective move.”

As the first full day of E3 came to a close, Nintendo wanted to prove that they weren’t done yet when it came to big news. Once their latest announcement was made however, it’s safe to say that in this case, it really couldn’t get any bigger than this.

Pac-Man, the 80’s video game icon and a longtime face of the entire industry, has officially been revealed as the latest combatant coming to Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS, bringing him, Mario, Mega Man and Sonic together for the first time in history.

Using his Pac Man World design with abilities inspired by that series of platformers, the original Pac-Man arcade games and calling upon help from classic characters from games like Galaga, Xevious, Mappy and Dig Dug, his move set seems way more creative and bizarre than I ever imagined. It’s even more strange than his Mokujin mech in Street Fighter X Tekken.

While this reveal is exciting, the writing has been on the wall for awhile. Namco has been helping Nintendo develop games since at least the Gamecube days, with games like Star Fox Assault, Pac-Man Vs. and the arcade version of Mario Kart. Since then, the company has been heavily involved with the development of the upcoming Smash Bros. in addition to releasing Nintendo exclusive titles like Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition and Tank! Tank! Tank!… but let’s forget about that last one.

Oh, and like Dark Pit in Palutena’s reveal, Mr. Game and Watch is teased at the end. Will he end up making the final cut?

Namco Bandai wasn’t short on Pac Man news at this year’s E3 convention. In addition to the TV show, toy line and video game that were announced, two retro titles are also coming for old people like me. Pac Man Championship Edition DX + and Pac Man Museum look to bring us back to the glory days of the ghost munching icon in both new and familiar ways.

As most of you could probably figure out from the title, Championship Edition DX + is an expanded version of the wildly popular HD Pac Man game that hit the PSN and Xbox Live arcade a few years back. For those unfamiliar, CE put players in timed Pac Man boards where giant waves of ghosts could be eaten in rapid succession for huge point bonuses. Eating half of the board would unlock a fruit, which would respawn dots after being eaten. In DX, bombs can be used to knock away enemies when you’re cornered, which is easy to do when the game goes into slow motion when in danger. DLC maps include classic Namco skins, including Dig Dug and Rally X, changing Pac Man and the ghosts into characters from those games. Coming this summer to Windows 8, Steam, Xbox 360 and PS3, leaderboard chasers will know which game to add to their queue once its released.

In Pac-Man Museum, many of the classic games spanning decades of history will be collected into one package. Announced so far are Championship Edition, Classic and Battle Royal, the latter of which was only released in arcades. This game looked the most exciting of all, since it features 4 different Pac Men who had to eat ghosts as well as each other. Each power pellet makes Pac Man grow in size, allowing him to eat anyone and anything else that’s smaller than him. Coming to the PS3, 360, Wii U and 3DS, it looks like our retro fix will be covered in this Pac Man collection.

Between these two titles, that’s a ton of Pac we’ll get to play. Between these games and the TV show, it looks like we’ll all be getting real familiar with the character once again. Look out for both these games in the coming months.

Pac Man has been a gaming icon since before gaming icons were a thing. If you were to sing the beeps and boops of the opening song to a random person on the street, chances are they’ll recognize it before they flag the police for harassment. Over the last few years though, the closest he’s received to recognition are a few remakes of his classic arcade game and as a pick up line in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Namco’s looking to change that, because Pac Man is back in the spotlight, starting with a slew of new media.

Starting this Monday on June 17th, Pac Man will hit the airwaves courtesy of Disney XD. Airing Monday thru Friday with repeats on Saturday, (that’s six days a week people!) Pac Man and the Ghostly Adventures is a 3D animated cartoon where the eater of worlds himself will have to save his city from an evil army of ghost spirits. Introducing new friends and familiar foes along the way, Namco is banking on the idea that kids will eat this stuff up, complete with a toy and merchandise line.

But of course, Pac Man wouldn’t be anything without video games, so a tie in title is on its way. This 3D platformer was made closely with the people behind the animated series to keep both pieces of media in line with each other. Coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U an 3DS this fall, the game promises about 8 hours of story mode game play with 1-4 player multiplayer modes to round out the experience. In the playable demo that was on display, Pac-Man could attack by eating ghosts, eat special pelletts that transform him into new forms, (like the Iguana form that lets him swing and eat with his retractable tounge,) and force ghosts to turn blue and run away with a retro sounding scream. He ran really slow, and his eating attack had pathetic range, so I’m hoping some extra development time can iron out these issues. However, as a platforming fan, the game is looking like a solid title for its intended demographic.

While the 3DS version wasn’t on display, it was said to be a 2D sidescroller that uses the same art style as the TV show and console games. While the console version is said to have a medium level of difficulty, the 3DS is intended to be the system of choice for younger gamers with Pac Man. Because of this, it’s said to be the easier version of the two, so all ages can find the title that’s appropriate for them.

It’s clear to see that Namco wants Pac-Man back in a huge way. With Pac Man and the Ghostly Adventures, it seems like they’re all in; planning to give the icon the reception he deserves. With three games, (including Pac Man Championship Edition DX and Pac Man Museum,) a TV show and a toy line, a whole new generation will have the chance to fall in love with the yellow disc all over again.

Joining Ralph in this new poster for the movie we have M. Bison, Q-Bert, Neff from Altered Beast), a ghost from Pac-man, Zanghief, Coily The Snake, Dr. Robotnik and Sonic The Hedgehog.

The bad-guy character Ralph, in the classic game Fix-It Felix Jr., who longs to be a hero brings trouble to his entire arcade after sneaking into a new first-person shooter game and unleashing a deadly enemy.
