IDW Publishing will begin releasing a new collection of Disney Comics in March 2015 with the publication of Don Rosa’s Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Artist’s Edition.

Uncle Scrooge #1 will debut in April, Donald Duck #1 in May, Mickey Mouse #1 in June, and Walt Dinsey’s Comics and Stories #721 (maintaining the original numbering) in July. The new IDW titles will be #1’s, but will continue their classic legacy number inside the issues.

The four premiere issues will have 48 pages at a price point of $3.99, with each subsequent issue having 40 pages. Each issue will feature two regular covers and one unique cover that will have the characters in different environments featuring theme park attractions.

I’ve never read any classic Disney comics myself but if they are anything like the cartoons I watched over lunch as a kid I’m sure I’ll love them! I’ll be sure to check these out this spring.

Are you a long time fan of Disney comics? Does this news have you excited? Let us know in the comments below.

IDW Publishing announced that it has acquired Top Shelf Productions, the award-winning independent publisher of graphic novels, such as March, Blankets, and Essex Country. As well as several of Alan Moore’s books such as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell and Voice of the Fire.

Top Shelf will remain a distinct imprint within the IDW family of books. IDW’s main role will be the support and management of Top Shelf’s infrastructure.

It sounds like this acquisition will be beneficial for both companies (as well as consumers!). Do you have a favourite Top Shelf title? Let us know in the comments below.

Walt Siminson’s long running comic book career is nothing short of illustrious. While he is best known for his run on Thor from 1983-1987 on Thor, Siminson has also worked on such properties as X-Factor, Fantastic Four, Batman, Manhunter, Star Wars, Alien, and Battlestar Galactica. The list goes on and on and on, but before all of that there was Star Slammers.

Simonsson created Star Slammers as his Rhode Island School of Design as his thesis project in 1972. It has seen various publication through the decades but perhaps none as sweet as what’s to come.

IDW Publishing has announced Star Slammers: The Complete Collection. It will collect the graphic novel and mini-series, as well as short stories, covers, and pin-ups. And, for the first time ever, this volume will print the original version of Star Slammers.

Star Slammers: The Complete Collection is set to hit shelves in February. Have you experienced Star Slammers? Planning to pick up the collection? Let us know in the comments below!

It’s not the TV reboot that has been rumoured lately (and that I’m immensely hoping for), but this is still pretty exciting.

IDW is launching a new monthly X-Files series. Sure, it’s set after the underwhelming events of I Want to Believe, but I’ve got high hopes for this one. The new series is set to launch this June, while reprints of older books (released between 1995 and 2009) will be released before then.

From the press release:

Over two movies and two hundred television episodes, THE X-FILES, is a juggernaut of science fiction-tinged intrigue, unique characters and carefully constructed stories. The show’s popularity raged into the comic world, seeing successful series mounted by publishers Topps and Wildstorm. Despite this, new publishing has not been available since 2009’s joint Wildstorm/IDW crossover – 30 Days of Night/The X-Files – leaving fans without a venue for the continuing sequential adventures of Mulder and Scully… until now.

No word yet on who will write or illustrate the new book. Are you excited for this? Or would you prefer that Mulder and Scully stay retired?

Hey, it’s time to get in the holiday spirit…right?

Next January we will see a crossover event been Topps and IDW where we will see Mars Attacks take on…well, everyone in a series of one-shots. Spread out over the course of five weeks in January, we will see a series of one-shots with the zany aliens taking on the entire IDW universe.

The series will feature regular covers by Ray Dillon in a style inspired by the classic trading cards, but they’ll also come with some surprising variants allowing Mars to attack a mix of well known creator-owned properties by artists like Mike Allred, =John Byrne, Walt Simonson, Rob Guillory, Dave Sim and Terry Moore nas well as some property variants like Judge Dredd by Ray Dillon.

The brains behind the crossover event, IDW Editor-in-Chief and Chief Creative Officer Chris Ryall, had this to say about the upcoming crossover:

“The ‘Mars Attacks’ property is a bit more insane than most of the licenses we have. There’s lots of good carnage in there, so we thought it’d be fun if we could spin that into some of our other books that are more respectful properties. Normally in ‘Transformers’ you don’t get the level of insanity of a ‘Mars Attacks’ comic. We thought it’d be fun to mash that all together.

I wanted ‘Mars Attacks’ to fit into these universes by the rules already established in these books. So if there’s a Popeye story, the Martians can only cause as much damage as you’d see in an old Popeye strip or a Fleischer cartoon. It’s not going to be quite as over-the-top violent as John Layman’s ‘Mars Attacks’ comic. It’ll fit well into the Popeye universe. So every issue is a stand-alone story, and they roll out chronologically by era. Popeye comes first and takes place further back in the timeline around the 1930s.”

The adaptation of the IDW graphic novel Lore may now have it’s director. The property was first acquired back in 2010, and producers were hoping for a Men In Black-style franchise to start with the adaptation. Well, it looks like they’re getting their wish because they’ve got the director being all three of the Men In Black films in talks to direct the film.

Dwayne Johnson signed on to back in April for the film written by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott. It is currently unknown if Sonnenfeld will rework the script before production starts but he has plenty of time. Due to Johnson’s filming schedule it’s likely that production won’t start until early 2013.

A synopsis of the graphic novel:

In times past, the world was full of mythical creatures, creatures long since banished and held at bay by the secret society of Shepherds. But when the generational line of Shepherds is broken, a reluctant hero finds her life threatened from every quarter. And the creatures are coming back…

According to Deadline, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is now attached to the Warner Bros. flick Lore, a movie that is based on the IDW comic by Ashley Wood. Lore tells the story of a world in which mythical creatures have been held back from the modern world by a secret society called Shepherds. But the line of Shepherds has been broken and these creatures are coming back.

For those not familiar with Wood, you might know his work. He is the man responsible for the awesome covers on  30 Days of Night and the artwork in the PSP game Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. I personally have never heard of nor read Lore, but after finding out it’s from Ashley Wood will check out out for sure. Dwayne Johnson and his ‘pop peck of loving’ self will next be seen in G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
