It’s the time to recap the week’s news and events with The Week In Comics! There wasn’t a lot of news this week in regards to comics but there was some pretty big news to report.

Jame Tynion IV Taking Over Writing Duties On Red Hood & The Outlaws

Red Hood And The Outlaws has been one of the New 52’s best titles so far and it looks like it’s getting even better. James Tynion IV (Talon) will be taking over writing duties after Lobdell finishes up his final story arc. [via Bleeding Cool]

Eddie Brock To Become The New “Toxin”

It’s been revealed that Eddie Brock will be returning to the Marvel Universe. But Brock won’t be coming back as Venom nor will he return as Anti-Venom. No, Brock will be returning as a new incarnation of Toxin, and will definitely be coming head to head with The Superior Spider-Man in the future. Cullen Bunn on Eddie Brock as the new Toxin: [via Newsarama]

You’ll start getting glimpses of him before issue #31, but in #31, Toxin returns. There are a lot of people who say, “Eddie Brock should be the only Venom. He’s the only person worthy of being Venom.” My goal, as lofty as it may be, is, I really want people to forget about Eddie as Venom. What [artist] Declan [Shalvey] and I are trying to do is, once we tell this story, I want people to associate Eddie Brock with Toxin.

It’s a lofty goal, because he has such a big history with Venom, but a lot of people really liked when he was Anti-Venom. We want to make Toxin a viable, interesting, dynamic character on his own — the Eddie/Toxin combo, or “Broxin” as I’ve seen him referred. [Laughs.] Our goal is to really make people love and hate and fear Toxin, and Eddie Brock.

When Eddie and Toxin were bonded in “Savage Six,” he was almost like this mindless killing machine. That is not the Toxin you are going to see. I don’t want to say he’s solidly a villain, but for Venom, at least, he is solidly an antagonist. The one thing that Eddie and Toxin have in common is that they both hate Venom — both the symbiote and the man. That solidifies their partnership to some degree.

New Mystery Series Coming From From Brian Wood And Oliver Coipel

This image was tweeted earlier by writer Brian Wood. The future of Marvel is XX? Coming this April is a new series from Brian Wood and Oliver Coipel. One would assume by the X’s that it’s a new X-title. But, we’ve been wrong before. Then again…does the DNA kind of give it away? An official announcement regarding the title will be made some time in the next month.

Phil Noto Taking Over Art Duties On Thunderbolts

Not a fan of the art on the new Thunderbolts title? Well, don’t worry because starting in March the title will see a new artist. Phil Noto (Uncanny X-Force) will be taking over with issue #7 this March. Will he be bring new life to the title or just Frank Castle’s sex life? [via IGN]

Hey, it’s time to get in the holiday spirit…right?

You read that right! This January, Dynamite entertainment is set to launch a pretty huge book in the Bionic franchise: Steve Austin and Jamie Sommers, as enemies!

Here’s the press release:

Coming from Dynamite in January 2013, in association with NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products, two classic icons will clash in The Bionic Man vs. The Bionic Woman #1! Written by Keith Champagne and featuring covers by Ardian Syaf, Sean Chen, Jonathan Lau, Jack Herbert, and drawn by Jose Luis, this series is not to be missed!

In The Bionic Man vs. The Bionic Woman #1, Steve Austin joins forces with the FBI to track down a mysterious, seemingly-bionic, serial killer. But when the Bionic Man disappears, only Jamie Sommers has a chance to find him. But if their paths cross, will it be as friends, lovers…or mortal enemies? Nothing will ever be the same!

“Growing up a huge fan of Steve Austin and now having such a strong admiration for the work Kevin Smith and Phil Hester have done to redefine the characters, I almost have to pinch myself that not only do I get to play in this world, but I get to tell THE Steve Austin/Jamie Sommers story I’ve carried with me all these years,” says writer Keith Champagne. “Expect plenty of twists and turns before it’s all over because I’m putting both Steve and Jamie through their bionic paces. Let’s see what they look like when or if they make it out to the other side.”

“Bionic fans have asked for The Bionic Man vs. The Bionic Woman from the get-go. But we wanted to wait till we shipped over a years worth of Bionic Man’s before releasing this. Now, prepare for ultimate bionic action!” – Dynamite President Nick Barrucci

Sounds good to me! It has been awhile since I’ve had any thoughts about Steve Austin (despite watching the show on VHS all through my childhood), but this book sounds freaking cool.

What do you think?
