Briefly: I never realized how emotional this moment would be.

The launch trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has just debuted online, and more than an exciting trailer for what’s bound to be one of the best games of the year (if not the generation), this final Hideo Kojima-directed video feels like the lauded director’s sombre goodbye to his baby.

Since the first time that I played Metal Gear Solid as an eight year old in 1998, I’ve been enthralled with the series, its incredible characters, its mind-blowing gameplay, and even its convoluted and confusing story.

Now, with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Hideo’s vision is all but coming to an end. After his falling out with Konami which also led to Silent Hills getting the axe, it’s pretty safe to say the next game from the creator will be picked up by another publisher.

The trailer takes us through quick glimpses of each main-series Metal Gear title, all while depressing, minor-keyed music plays in the background. Afterwards, we get a glimpse of a gigantic new Metal Gear which looks like a tough-as-nails opponent. Quick credits reveal Kojima’s name about 100 times (which would be 100 times more than the box art will), and then it all fades to black.

Anyone else wish they could give Kojima a hug?

Starting today, you can pre-order the game-only Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of ‘Rock Band 4’. Christopher Lloyd is back as Doc Brown for LEGO venture into cross worlds video gaming with ‘LEGO Dimensions’.

In ‘LEGO Dimensions’ your favorite characters from DC Comics, The Simpsons, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, Back to the Future, The Wizard of Oz, Scooby Doo, Jurassic World, Ghostbusters and Doctor Who are coming together to be part of an all new immersive adventure. The last time we got this many properties together for a crossover adventure was with ‘Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue’.

LEGO enters the “toys-to-life” gaming market with the vast properties they have acquired through its regular LEGO line. I personally tried Disney Infinity 1.0. Wasn’t too much of fan of its game play mechanics and limitations. However, LEGO seems to have made numerous improvements so I may have to sneak this on to my daughter’s Christmas wishlist to give it a go.

‘Lego Dimensions’ starts building September 27 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Disney Interactive’s presentation at the D23 Expo 2015 was filled with great Disney gaming news. At one point the presentation focused on Star Wars.

It was already previously announced that Star Wars was going to a be a big part of 3.0 of Infinity but the big surprise came when cast members of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ come out during the presentations to introduce their Infinity characters.

Co-stars John Boyega and Daisy Ridley gave away their character figures, Finn and Rey, for the upcoming Play Set based on the film.

In addition, select “Star Wars” figures for Disney Infinity were shown off to have light-up light sabers that light up when placed onto the Disney Infinity Base. Figures include Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Kanan Jarrus.

Concept art was revealed for the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront game is DLC from ‘The Force Awakens’ called the Battle of Jakku that was previously announced during Star Wars Celebration. It will be free to download.

If pre-ordered, the DLC will be available on Dec. 1. Otherwise, gamers will have to wait until Dec. 8.

The news that had me stoked and mad at the same time was the announcement of a limited edition Darth Vader-inspired Battlefront Playstation 4. I was a PS4 hold out until last year when the all white Destiny edition was released. Now i wish i knew this was coming out because this edition is a whole lot sweeter looking.

It will be available in two separate bundles, one for Battlefront and one for Disney Infinity 3.0. to sweeten the deal even more it was also announced that both bundles would come  a digital voucher to download four classic ‘Star Wars’ titles – Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter and Star Wars Bounty Hunter – playable for the first time on PS4, with enhanced graphics and Trophy support.

What used to be a franchise where multiple releases across nearly every platform every year was considered a sure thing, the world of Yu-Gi-Oh has really dialed it back in the video game department in recent years. For many, (including myself,) the games were always a great tool to gain access to hundreds of potential strategies to experiment with, while developing a firm grasp of new rules as the game evolved. With the recent release of Yu-Gi-Oh: Legacy Of The Duelist, the first game in the series for PS4 and Xbox One is a return to form for the long running series, serving as the most comprehensive game yet! Despite its card pool that reaches over a decade back and heaps of nostalgia however, a few head scratching snags keep it from being the Duelist Kingdom we were hoping for.

As mentioned, Yu-Gi-Oh: Legacy of the Duelist goes as far back as the beginning of the series, all the way up to cards that were released early this year. With over 6,600 cards in total,this is easily the most comprehensive console version released up to this point. If you don’t know the difference between a Blue Eyes White Dragon or a Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon, if you think Xyz is a dragon cannon, or if the last time your dueled was when you were getting your game on with Jaden in GX, this is far from a problem. Thanks to the game’s campaign mode, (where the bulk of the single player content lies,) each of its four main stories contain about 25 duels, all of which cover the most important events through each anime series. Using text dialogue ripped straight from the show, jumping into each generation starts off with a comprehensive tutorial explaining the new mechanics that were debuted at the time. Even though it’s annoying that veterans can’t skip these, or that the first series has such a long explanation of the most basic mechanics, (I probably wouldn’t be playing if I didn’t know what a Normal Summon is,) its an invaluable tool for those who dropped out throughout the years and want to get caught up with the game a little bit at a time.

Story mode often serves as a game of patience, which in some ways, simulates the struggles each character faced on the show. These scenarios give the player a Story Deck that simulates the cards that were actually used in the episodes they’re drawn from, which can be a blessing and a curse. On one hand, though the decks do have a fair amount of cards they never used, (which is expected when episodes only featured about a dozen cards out of a 40 card deck,) but are mostly accurate, with each staple monster, spell and trap making an appearance. On the other hand, these decks SUCK by today’s standards, especially when starting with the early series. Their only saving grace, (often to our detriment,) is that single player throws ban lists out the window, so its not uncommon to be sent into a deck kicking rage after enduring multiple Dark Hole, Raigeki, and Swords Of Revealing Light cards. Luckily, your opponent’s deck is usually worse, but that luck runs out when it comes to Reverse Duels, unlockable battles where you take control of the losing character. Using their Story Decks makes it almost impossible to win, often having to rely on “the heart of the cards”, to sneak away with a victory. This is why the campaign giving you the option to use custom decks is a gift from Ra, because some of these duels would be almost impossible to beat otherwise. Then again, relying on them took away from the fun found in playing with cards you might never use on your own.

Winning unlocks new Booster Packs based on certain character, cards from the defeated Duelist’s deck, and points to buy new cards with. Lastly, if you want to face these protagonists of the past with a little more challenge, Duelist Challenges allow you to play against them with updated decks. Seeing Kaiba and Yugi using Synchro and Xyz summoning is a sight within itself, while keeping an already lengthy single player mode fresh. If all this content isn’t enough, some of the missing story duels are featured as DLC, many of which had no business being left out, (Jaden vs. Yugi anyone!?) Basically, if it wasn’t featured on U.S. TV, you’re going to have to pay extra for it.

Duels themselves take the form of a variety of phases per turn, with each card having different functions as each phase goes by. Without going too far into detail, each card falls into one of three types. Monsters are used to attack or defend against your opponent, (most of which come with secondary effects,) Spell Cards unleash effects that have the potential to turn a duel around in the user’s favor, and Trap Cards spring surprise effects on the opponent, usually putting a stop to their moves. Speaking of Traps, (and Quick Spells for that matter,) unless you’re brand new to the game, you might want to switch the default settings for Duel Notifications off. Unless of course, you want the game to ask you half a dozen times per turn if you want to use it. It’s all pretty straightforward presentation and game play wise, but the only real issue I came across was with how slow the game moves. Previous versions had ways to speed up turn animations or skip them outright, whereas Next Gen gaming doesn’t seem to have the option to do so. And while seeing signature cards come to life and attack using 3D models, these just drag the game out after you’ve seen them repeatedly with no way to pass them by.

As a real duelist, part of the reason some have had trouble getting into the game is those handful of players with bad attitudes. As we know, the Internet tends to make this attitude so much worse, which is why the acceptable Online Mode is best played with people you know. If you’re expecting to have fun, competitive matches with players around the world, you’ll surely be disappointed by the large amount of rage quitting that takes place. While I wouldn’t normally hold this against the game itself, the fact that it doesn’t give the remaining player the win, or even that it takes so long to make the win official, it gives quitters so much time to sneak away with their record clean. Since there’s no way to Mind Crush over Xbox Live or PSN, avoiding them or accepting this fact going in are your only solutions.

Online play is fun with friends. With strangers, prepare for rage quits.

With so many cards, even veteran duelists might feel a little overwhelmed with gathering the best cards for their deck building needs. Thankfully, the game is generous with its allocation, giving you a variety of ways to unlock them. Primarily, cards are purchased from the Booster Packs mentioned above using Duel Points, (or DP,) which are rewarded for playing and winning duels. Outside of the character packs, Battle Packs make their video game debut, which mirror their real life purpose of building decks right out of the pack. Featuring some of the best cards in the game, Battle Packs test your duel knowledge, forcing you to play a best three out of five series either against the CPU or other players with the same blind deck. Win or lose, you keep the cards for your own deck building needs. Character packs provide their reward immediately, with each set being loaded with cards from each generation. Sadly, with a new console generation comes some of its annoyances, since many of the very best and most up to date cards are locked behind DLC pay walls.

Yet, while having thousands of cards is definitely a great thing, Legacy Of The Duelist‘s biggest flaw is how poorly it handles card management. For one, there are far too few Character Packs, so each one is full of archetypes that the booster’s namesake never used. For example, if Pegasus had his own pack featuring Toons and Relinquished instead of them being forced into Kaiba’s packs, it would make it easier for Seto’s fans to gather up Blue Eyes cards rather than plod through a ton of cards they don’t want. This wouldn’t be a huge problem normally, but the game does a terrible job of filtering out repeats, leaving me opening packs with three of the same card at times. With each set containing hundreds of cards, it makes it almost impossible to get that one card you’re desperate to find without potential hours of pack grinding.

Oh, and the worst part? There is no in game card list telling you what’s in each pack. That’s right, absolutely none! The cards you buy don’t tell you where they came from, and there’s no list telling you if you’re missing anything. With so many cards available, this creates a huge problem for those who want to keep track of where to get more than one of the same card, or who wants to let their friends know where they can find their favorite cards. The only sign of relief is that beating the CPU duelists repeatedly will eventually reward you with their entire deck, but this answer is far from ideal. An online trading system, a card password system like what was used in the past, or a simple list would have gone a long way to improve this aspect of the game. Instead, it serves as its biggest flaw in an otherwise comprehensive title.

Featuring over 6,600 cards spanning nearly 15 years of history, including the newest Pendulum Summon mechanic from the Arc-V era and the debut of Battle Packs, there’s plenty of reason for new and old duelists alike to be excited for Yu-Gi-Oh: Legacy of the Duelist. Best used as a tool to get back into the game, learn it for the first time, and test out a near limitless vault of cards before buying the cards for yourself, it serves its purpose well. A nostalgia filled campaign will keep you playing for hours while Duelist Challenges update the game for your favorites, but its poor online management, thoughtless card management system, slower pace and DLC locked content keep it from being the true king of games. Still, if you wanted an excuse to get your feet wet in the dueling arena, there isn’t a better way to learn the game than Legacy of the Duelist.

Just in time for Gamescom, Capcom has revealed one more world warrior heading to Street Fighter V. Vega, the Spanish ninja who relies on his speed, power and long reaching claws to punish his opponents, returns with plenty of new tricks to keep the masked fighter fresh.

Every previous iteration of the Street Fighter II boss has relied on his claws for attacks, extending his reach and improving his strength while equipped. If he took enough damage, his claws would get knocked off, putting him at a disadvantage until he was able to recover them. This time around, that weakness has the potential to become a strength, since Vega now has two attack stances. His standard claw stance relies on many of the tricks we’ve expected from him for over 20 years, with fast, hard hitting attacks that are designed to confuse opponents. However, losing his claws acts as a second stance, granting him a series of new command grabs to confuse opponents further. Top this off with his V-Trigger, the Bloody Kiss, and Vega can now teleport behind enemies and slice them up with the toss of a rose. Oh, but if you are attached to that claw style, you better be careful, since claws can no longer be picked up once they’re dropped.

Like Ken before him, it’s easy to see that Vega is getting a pretty big overhaul, and not just because his alternate matador costume is now his default. He sounds like he’ll be a completely different beast on the battlefield, which is sure to excite new and old fans alike.

It’s been over a decade since a new Godzilla game has been released. With the King of the Monsters taking such a long break from the gaming world, what better time to make your big re-debut than at the start of a new console generation? The idea of being able to tear through Tokyo while going toe to toe with some of the most iconic monsters from the film series’ history in full HD sounded like a no brainer, so I made sure to head down to Namco Bandai’s booth at Comic Con to see if the king still reigns supreme.

What was immediately noticeable was that watching Godzilla tear through buildings as he collects energy and brawls with foes looks amazing. Watching buildings explode all around him with every step, slash and tail swipe gave off a rewarding feeling of power, coming off as if the world was truly your playground. Considering how long these monsters have been away from the gaming scene, this universe definitely benefits from the visual upgrade that current consoles can provide.

Naturally, the only thing more rewarding than destroying the city by yourself is destroying the city by throwing monsters through it. Once Godzilla collected enough energy, the build up of chaos eventually attracted both Mecha King Ghidorah and Spacegodzilla. Fighting off two enemies at once was surprisingly easy thanks to the variety of attacks we had at our disposal. The energy blast Godzilla fires from his mouth makes it easy to keep them at a distance, while a quick tail swipe can knock them away if they get too close. If you prefer to make your fight more up close and personal, his vicious claws and crushing grabs could deal some huge damage. I don’t think the game offered a better sight than taking hold of your enemy, biting it a few times, and throwing him into a skyscraper. It’s pretty awesome stuff!

The only major complaint I had with the brief demo was the speed and controls. A reoccurring issue with most Godzilla games is that the monsters move far too slow, creating some plodding moments. Then again, this is the nature of trying to make a game based on this franchise, since it’s not like they can sprint across the city while still representing the feel of the films. This game felt like it moved faster than past games, especially since the city is tightly enclosed, but still took some time to get used to thanks to the somewhat awkward tank style controls. Using the shoulder buttons to turn while moving with the sticks takes some getting used to, but it’s nothing that can’t be figured out with time.

From what we’ve played, Godzilla feels like a solid re-introduction for the iconic character’s gaming comeback. With plenty of destruction, and a great roster so far, we’re hoping the main game continues this positive momentum. Welcome back, and hail to the king!

In one of the least surprising announcements imaginable, Ken was revealed as the next fighter joining the cast of the upcoming Street Fighter V. As the only character aside from Ryu who has appeared in ever main line game, Ken is essentially known as American Karate guy, who gains a flaming uppercut and a few technical changes from his Japanese counterpart. Once the cocky martial artist actually appeared on screen though, dare I say something was actually different about the fighting game veteran!

At the Street Fighter V Comic Con panel, the Capcom-Unity team, (as well as SFIV’s project manager and SFV‘s executive producer, Yoshinori Ono,) promised us that Ken’s drastic change in appearance wasn’t the only aspect of the character that was getting an overhaul. For the first time in series history, the team promised that the fighter we affectionately know as “red Ryu” will be a completely unique character who uses powerful, “showstopping” attacks that helps players fight aggressively, (and look good doing it!) His unique V-Skill would further separate him from the rest of the shotokan fighters by adding flaming properties to all of his moves, allowing him to extend combos while gaining a quicker back step when it’s time to play defensively.

From the trailer alone, we can see that his Hurricane Kick has been retooled to go in a diagonal arc, and can even be converted into a type of dive kick from the air. While some of his old moves carry over, it’s easy to see that Ken stands out much more now than he has in the past, but does this promise carry over to the main game?

Konami seems to be the center of consistent controversy in the gaming world over the last few years. Fans were shocked when the news broke all the way back in 2013 of the creative decision to pick Keifer Sutherland as the new voice of Big Boss over the classic Snake/Big Boss actor since the debut of the Solid series, David Hayter. Along with the announcement and whirlwind cancellation of the highly anticipated Silent Hills coupled with Hideo Kojima’s abrupt release from the production company, hardcore fans’ confidence on the future of their beloved Konami franchises have been shaken. What does the future hold for the beloved franchise with creator Hideo Kojima off of future projects? Well, we didn’t get a hands on at the show with what seems to be his final game with Konami, but from what we saw of the live gameplay demo, things are actually looking pretty “solid.”

If you weren’t a big fan of Ground Zeroes, you are in for some disappointment, unfortunately. Even the presenter during the live demo confirmed it will be much of the same. There is a main base referred to as the ACC, or Arial Command Center, where you prepare for a number of different assignments. From here, you can customize your weapons to a minute amount of detail with “practically limitless” possibilities. You can also look at pictures of your teammate, Quiet, (among other things), which are pinned to the wall, or look through your missions and collected arsenal. The game is an open world map with mission-based objectives which can be completed in any order. One new feature of the game is to bring along a side-kick character. We were introduced to D-Horse and D-Dog which could be taken onto the field to assist Boss with completing his mission objectives. You also have the choice of a vehicle to bring with you. We were shown a tank and a jeep, the latter of which was ultimately chosen alongside the D-dog and a morning drop.

Speaking of, when you set off for a mission, you will have the option of a drop time. You can choose to be dropped right that moment in in-game time, a morning drop, or a night drop, which will ultimately affect your mission. While you are out on the field, realistic weather conditions, including sandstorms, can limit visibility while altering the way you will play at random and in real-time.

When Boss was shown driving in the jeep, it was seamless and smooth. The landscape had gorgeous detail and you could really feel the heat of the desert area where the player was dropped. Once the mission target was reached, there was some dialogue that occurred on how to best complete the mission objective for that location. Verbal cues would trigger when objectives were met and advice was given from your base as the mission progressed. D-Dog had the ability to locate enemies from a distance and attack and stun enemies without alerting them to Boss’ presence. Combining this with the extremely dynamic combat, the audio and visual qualities and the return of the classic “CQC” take-down ability makes defeating enemies a truly satisfying experience.

The Fulton Device originally introduced in MGS: Peace Walker also makes a return. In the demo that was shown, the player was tasked with capturing a Russian interpreter to be taken back to base and tasked with translation of enemy conversations. Mission objectives and targets of interest will be mapped and marked by your HUD as they are discovered. Occasionally, you might come across a friendly in peril, and you have the option to rescue them and Fulton them out of harms way and back to base.

One feature includes collectible music recordings that you may find throughout the open world. During the demo, one such cassette was found after using a stealth take down on an enemy soldier and nabbing it from his radio. A la GTA, you can play the tunes you discover at will during your mission. From what we have been shown, they include a few fairly well-known songs.

The wait is almost over, Metal Gear fans. The game will be available for retail release worldwide on September 1st, 2015. Likely being the last “true” Metal Gear game, it’s one that fans won’t want to miss out on.

When Borderlands took the gaming world by storm, the developers at Gearbox showed that blending the tried and true FPS genre with the progression and growth of an RPG was a winning formula. Rather than be satisfied with the mega franchise that it’s become, the team is hoping to push the envelope even further with their latest title, Battleborn. As big fans of their previous work, we made sure to get some hands on time with it on the show floor and see if they could recreate the magic.

One of the first things that we noticed with Battleborn is how much character variety the title will offer. Promising up to about 50 characters to choose from with five player co-op, each character is so wildly different from each other that it’s likely to ensure that no two playthroughs will be the same. Sure, if you want to take the more traditional road, there are characters that specialize in automatic weapons, heavy artillery or sniper rifles. If you’re like me and want something with a little more class, maybe the rapier wielding Phoebe is more your style, who joins characters such as a dwarf in specializing in up close melee strikes. If swinging blades in a shooter sounds strange to you, that has nothing on the ninja mushroom that uses its head as a healing spore when he’s not throwing his deadly blades, or the four armed magic user who can speed in and out of the battlefield and away from danger.

If you were able to follow along with all of that, it’s clear that Battleborn is insane. To think that these are just a sample of the characters that will be available when the game launches at the end of the year makes it hard to imagine what else will be waiting for us. Either way, it’s fortunate that there are so many options, because as you and up to four other friends fight to extend the life of  the last star in the universe, you’re going to want to have multiple ways to achieve such a task. Just because the galaxy is about to come to an end doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it, right?

The brief time we spend in the campaign mode felt instantly familiar for anyone who played Borderlands. Each character has their own skill trees, that can be expanded on as each character levels up. Every team member gets equal EXP when anyone defeats an enemy, so even terrible team members will get stronger and hopefully improve… Right? As we fought through hordes of enemies in between abusing special abilities and hacking away at the huge foes, it became clear that the bright, cartoony art style hid a deceptively challenging game, with large areas that get full quick. If Borderlands felt like an RPG, then Battleborn feels like a hack and slash in the same vein as games past, with a more stage focused setup as opposed to the big, open world from before. It feels similar enough to know you’ll love it while being different enough to stand out on its own. What more can you ask for in a new IP?

Shenmue lives. I cried in front of my computer screen.

In one of the most stunning announcements at Sony’s E3 — an E3 that includes The Last Guardian and a remake of Final Fantasy VII — Yu Suzuki took to the stage of Sony’s conference to announce Shenmue III is in development!

With a Kickstarter.

The shock of legitimate evidence of Shenmue III presenting itself to my eyeballs is still clouding me, but there are some muddy ownership stuff going on here. Shenmue was originally released for the Sega Dreamcast and Shenmue II was released for the original Xbox (North America).

And here I thought Suzuki’s tweet from a few days ago was just a cruel tease.

I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, Shenmue III is fucking happening and the Kickstarter, live for maybe less than the runtime of all three Hobbit movies by now, is already more than halfway to its $2 million goal (there are 31 days total for the Kickstarter to run).

But Sony’s involvement confuses me. Did Sony buy the IP? Why let them announce a hotly-anticipated title has entered development with a Kickstarter, a plea to give us goddamn money, on an E3 stage if they didn’t have such exclusivity? Even if Shenmue III is funded with enough money to end poverty in a third-world nation, the game is still set to launch on the PlayStation 4 and the PC with zero mention of any other console, Xbox or otherwise, anywhere.

At this point I’ll take Shenmue III on a LeapFrog, but I would like to know exactly what happened between creator Yu Suzuki and any relationship he had, if at all, with the folks at Microsoft.

Briefly: Back in December of last year, Capcom unveiled the highly anticipated Street Fighter V… as a PC and PS4 exclusive.

Now, fans (and non-PS4 owners) everywhere have simply assumed that this was a timed exclusive, and that Xbox players would surely see the game on their console of choice soon after launch.

Apparently, this is not the case. Speaking with Gamespot, a Capcom representative confirmed that Street Fighter 5 is never leaving the Playstation console:

One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox, but the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run.

 

We’re not talking about how we’re handling post-launch content, but I can say the relationship with Sony does open doors for things we haven’t been able to do in the past.

 

The relationship serves a gameplay and development purpose, and not just a marketing value.

Fighting fans, does this news make you more likely to pick up a PS4? Or skip out on SFV entirely? Me? I’m still bummed out that Rise of the Tomb Raider is only headed to Xbox One.

After an apparent leak late last week, Sony has confirmed that Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will release for the Playstation 4 on October 7th, just in time for players to catch up before the 2016 release of Uncharted 4.

Delivering the single player campaigns of the critically acclaimed Uncharted games for the PS3, this remastered collection will launch around the time that U4 was expected to release before its dreaded delay. Remastered by Bluepoint Games, (the team behind the Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and God of War remasters amongst others,) the package is promising to deliver Nathan Drake’s past adventures in full 1080P at 60 FPS.

Those who purchase the game will receive access to the Uncharted 4 online beta, which is scheduled to launch by the end of the year, in addition to bonus weapons and skins for a physical pre-order, and a dynamic theme for your PS4 start up screen if you pre-order digitally.

I’m waiting for more information on this one before I pass full judgement, but my knee jerk reaction is that these HD remasters are getting a little out of control. With the online modes removed from 2 and 3 and only new trophies and The Last Of Us Remastered‘s famed camera mode to replace them, I’m struggling to find the value here. When you consider that the PS3 copies go for $5 each these days with their full feature set, I can’t imagine anyone needing this unless they completely passed on the previous Playstation generation. Hopefully the underrated Vita entry gets added to the set, or it launches at a budget price to make it more worth it, but hey! Maybe that’s just me.

Still, these are three excellent games that are worth checking out if you haven’t before. What are your thoughts on yet another HD remaster?

Drake

For so many years, Final Fantasy had followed the traditional JRPG formula. You take control of a diverse group of characters, fight some monsters, and save the day. Tactics was one of the first games in the series which began to deviate from that norm, expanding the catalogue into turn-based-strategy territory. Then along came the MMOs, then the sequels and remakes, the movies, the music games, etc. With the announcement of the upcoming Dissidia arcade fighting game (which looks amazing by the way), there are seemingly no boundaries for the iconic franchise. With each new installment of a game bearing the Final Fantasy name, you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get, so when I sat down with Type-0, I was prepared for anything.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is one of three main series that make up the collective Fabula Nova Crystallis which includes Final Fantasy XIII and XV, along with their sequels and companion games. Much like the Ivallice Alliance, which consisted of the Tactics series, Final Fantasy XII and Vagrant Story, the games all have ties to the same lore, rewarding the diehards with multiple references. Type-0 introduces its place in the lore through a drawn out opening cutscene and a fairly short Mission battle. Unless watching Chocobos die a slow, painful death for 20 minutes is a pastime of yours, it’s a really odd way to kick off your game. Afterwards, you are free to roam around your main base of operations, a training ground/school called Academia. If this sounds familiar, then rest assured, this is as far away from VIII’s Garden as it can get.

Your party consists of twelve playable characters from Academia’s Elite Class Zero.  Each member of Class Zero has a unique weapon specialty; anything from swords and guns to a Soul Calibur-esque blade-whip that would make Ivy jealous. Each character also has a set of upgradable skills, some of which are latent. These include providing an increase in maximum dodge-roll limits, and some are equip-able abilities, such as unique weapon attacks and different types of magic. Some time into the game, you will be introduced to the Altocrystarium, which can be accessed in Academia or at any time from the options menu. Here, you can trade collected Phantoma collected through battle for magic and special move upgrades. However, be aware that with each stat you upgrade, it will reduce a different stat’s efficiency so you will need to plan upgrades accordingly. Depending on your taste for action, you will likely realize a combat favorite or two.

During random battles and missions, you will take control of the character that you have assigned as your lead (or the first character in the party list if that one dies) plus the next two characters at the top of your party list. After defeating an enemy, you will need to target them to absorb their Phantoma and items, should they be carrying any. You’ll realize pretty quickly that having a character with area magic such as Blizzard will be essential for mowing down low-level random encounters.  One fantastic feature of Type-0’s battle system is the ability to time your attacks for massive damage, often after your enemy performs a powerful attack or spell. I got a real kick out of tactically defeating level 55 Behemoths with characters less than half their level.  If at any time a character is defeated in battle, you can swap them out for another until all of your twelve are used up. There is no real traditional escape option, so make sure you’re as prepared as you can be before heading off to battle.

Mission battles in towns will allow you to experience an interesting feature of battle within Type-0. Before Mission Battles, you may enable a feature which allows characters with names based on the game’s developers to join your party at random during a Mission. These characters disappear after a set time, which can be extended by defeating enemies, bosses and advancing through the mission. They will also gather SP, which can be used to trade for items back in Academia making their usefulness last beyond developing the game you’re reading about. If you’re more of a lone wolf, you can choose to disable the option if you’d rather go it alone. Though it sounds pretty cool, I found the feature to be a bit intrusive and restricting, although the characters themselves can be quite useful in a tough battle. However, if you happen to be controlling a character you don’t particularly want to play with for extended periods of time, you’re stuck with them until the time-limit runs out and your original playable party member returns to battle.

You’re given a set amount of time to explore the world until Mission Day, which will advance the main story. Talking to NPCs within Academia with a bright green exclamation point over their head or interacting with marked locations will trigger an Event. Events take up 2 hours of your time until Mission Day and will awards an item for completing them. Most of the time, you will usually get some mundane flavor text regarding a no-name NPC you happen to be chatting with. Sometimes, however, these interactions will trigger a short in-game cut-scene including various members of Class Zero. Some of these events are character-specific, and they usually tell you what character you need to trigger the Event.

Certain marked NPCs will have various Tasks for you to complete. Tasks are usually very straight forward and they don’t take away any time from your Mission Day countdown, unlike Events. Fetch-quest type Tasks can be completed without too much extra hassle, but Tasks where your party is asked to defeat certain enemies or numbers of enemies out in the field require you to use up the game-standard six hours for exploring the over-world in order to complete.

On that subject, here’s a tip that made managing Missions more enjoyable. Every town on the over-world map usually has at least one NPC with a Task for you to complete. However, if you are working on completing a hunting request, it is advisable to complete it before attempting any from townspeople. Towns can also hide unmarked NPCs with a hidden task for you to complete. Sometimes the task will be spread among multiple NPCs, so it’s I’d suggest talking to as many of them as possible. Certain towns also have salesmen who will buy any extra Phantoma off of your party for a pretty fair price, so be sure to remember where you find them!

If you’re a fan of the lore of Fabula Nova Crystallis, make sure to be on the lookout for L’Cie crystals lying around the game. You can turn them into a specific hidden character in a certain town to hear the last words of the L’Cie they belong to. There are more than 40 to collect and they can be found almost anywhere, offering an interesting nod to those who were engrossed by the universe introduced in FFXIII.

Aside from the main battle system, occasionally you will need to participate in territory wars in the over-world to capture territories and towns from the enemy. Mog’s tips will be essential for completing these scenarios effectively, in addition to tons of patience. This battle system takes away from the flow of gameplay, feeling completely different compared to the normal battle system. It can get a bit a bit frustrating if you don’t like or are not used to the style of gameplay.

Speaking of side modes, Chocobo breeding also makes a return in Type-0. When you visit the Chocobo Ranch through the central portal in Academia, you will eventually be given a sort of “starter set” of Chocobo. From there you can breed by using various types of greens as per the norm where the series mainstays are concerned. Different greens may yield new outcomes of Chocobo with interesting battle and travel specialties, so it’s best to stock up on greens where you can and try different combinations at the ranch every few in-game hours. Don’t worry too much about running out of birds to breed either. They can be found running wild on the over-world map, just waiting to be caught.

Final Fantasy Type-0 has a LOT of content. Like, a lot. Be prepared to spend many an hour at your console of choice searching caves for Task items or defeating wave after wave of random encounter enemies, harvesting rare Phantoma for upgrades. Personally, I felt pretty detached from the story as a whole, but found the battles, Missions and Tasks to be the most enjoyable part of the game. It seems that this installment tried to be a little bit of something for everybody, and no matter how you choose to spend your time in the world of Type-0, it’s definitely worth your 60 bucks.

As a direct response to the recent success of Sony’s Playstation 4 with virtually no original, exclusive content, the Japanese electronics company has announced their shift in focus to remastering all of our favorite HD remasters. Focusing on a new strategy to release one strong exclusive per year and pad their lineup in between, it seems as if Bloodborne is meant to tide us over, assuming any of us can get passed the first hour.

“We are very excited to take the next step in defining the next-gen experience,” said Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. “We’ve always said that Greatness Awaits. It turns out that greatness arrived ten years ago.”

After learning that gamers are willing to buy tens of millions of consoles with a library consisting mainly of games they could’ve played on their previous console, Sony is seemingly striking while the iron’s hot, realizing that it would cost even less and take no time to reprint existing collections with a blue box rather than give new titles the HD treatment.

“We’re running out of games to remaster as is!”, added House.

While full details are expected to come out at E3 this year, games that are rumored to be apart of the lineup include:

Killzone 1-3: The Do You Care About It Yet? Edition,

Jak and Daxter HD HD- Now With Jak X,

The Sly Collection 2, bundled with all those copies of Sly 4 that people said they wanted and never bought.

The Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection: Revengence, adding Platinum Games’ Raiden focused action title to the collection Konami has been slowly adding to since 2006.

And most importantly, the The Last Guardian Is Still Coming, We Promise Collection featuring Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

New features will include longer install times, a handful of 10GB patches in the first week, an in-game selfie option and something something share button.

While Microsoft is expected to follow suit, Nintendo has responded with announcing 15 new exclusive Wii U titles that are all expected to be well designed and critically acclaimed. However, one gamer on their Facebook page said he couldn’t be bothered with “Kiddy games.”

Briefly: If you weren’t already sick of buying Square-Enix‘s stellar Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy X-2, you’ll soon be able to pick the games up all over again for your shiny year-and-a-half old PS4.

Sure, the remaster just hit PS3 and Vita back in December (which I bough and still haven’t touched), and now Square-Enix has revealed that the PS4 version will be available on May 12th.

Does anybody else feel like half of the PS4’s library is rereleases at this point?

The PS4 edition WILL include cross-save functionality, so if you’ve already started on the PS3 or Vita, you won’t be out of luck. In this edition, you’ll also be able to switch between the original and remastered soundtracks on the fly, which is actually pretty rad.

Atlus revealed what many of us were expecting. Like our Eastern counterparts, the West will also get to sink their teeth into a Playstation 4 version of Persona 5 when it releases alongside its PS3 counterpart in 2015.

While little is known about the highly anticipated sequel to one of the most popular Japanese RPGs on the market, the reputation of the monster collection/teenager simulation dungeon crawler has many a Senpai on baited breath waiting for any information to come to light. SPOILER ALERT: It will contain a Velvet Room and Personas, (unconfirmed, but come on!)

When Persona 5 was announced, the only thing more surprising than the announcement itself was that it was only listed for Playstation 3. At the time, it didn’t sound like too much of a crazy idea, considering the untested, unproven Playstation 4 wasn’t as safe of an investment compared to its well established predecessor. Since then, the PS4 has inexplicably sold over 10 million units in less than a year, many of which have been bought off of the backs of PS3 trade ins. Hey, everyone else is releasing PS3 games on PS4, why not do a simultaneous launch?

Have you been waiting for news on the re-release of Grim Fandango since it was announced earlier this year? Well, wait no longer!

At the Playstation Experience, Double Fine announced that the legendary adventure title will arrive on Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, PC, Mac and Linux on January 27th! For nostalgic gamers who want to revisit the classic, or gamers like myself who have never been part of the PC Master Race and couldn’t play it when it was brand spanking new, it’s great to finally know when we’re going to be able to experience the title!

In addition, Double Fine released details on a few more titles that are on the way, including:

Broken Age: Coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita alongside our Act 2 PC release next year.
Gang Beasts: Also heading to PlayStation 4 on PC launch day next year!
Day of the Tentacle: Special Edition: This is a thing! It’s happening!

We hope you REALLY enjoy visiting Spira!  A short nine months after Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster was released for the Playstation 3 and PS Vita, rumors have surfaced claiming that the set of RPGs will be making a PS4 debut early next year.

The Square Enix Boutique, France’s version of the publisher’s online store, listed the title for preorder, and scheduled for a Spring 2015 release. Shortly after the Internet caught wind of the listing, it was quickly removed, most likely due to someone wanting to save their job since no official announcement has been made as of yet.

If the news ends up being true, I can’t say it’s surprising. At this point, the PS4 feels more like an upscaled PS3, and with Square Enix also planning to release Final Fantasy VII and Type-0 next year, it doesn’t look like we’ll get much in the way of original content while we wait for XV, (though to be fair, Type-0 never released in the West). It’s especially bad for those who had PS4’s and already bought the collection. Who’s to say they wouldn’t have bought the current gen version to begin with? Oh well, I guess they can always buy it again…

Oh, Square Enix. Do you enjoy tormenting your fan base?

Down at the Playstation Experience event in Las Vegas, it was announced that Final Fantasy VII will be released for the Playstation 4! After what’s seemed like years of begging and pleading for a remade version of the PS1 classic, it looked like fans were finally getting their wish after teasing them all those years ago with a PS3 mock up! While it seemed like it would never happen, patience and perseverance have finally… wait, what? It’s not a remake? It’s ANOTHER port? Oh… okay then.

Porting over the PC version, this re-re release will feature the same upscaled visuals that computer players got to enjoy back in 1998, making those blocky polygons remind you why you trampled a toddler to get that new TV on Black Friday. For everyone else who either owns the PS1 version, the original PC version, downloaded it for their PS3 or bought an overpriced memory card to store it on their PSP or Vita, it’s time to get excited to buy it again, only this time, for the privilege of storing it on your PS4. The next generation has arrived, people!

Seriously, it feels like Square Enix is making fun of us at this point. Who will pick up FFVII on PS4 when its released next spring? Who knows. If we all buy it enough times, they’ll HAVE to remake it. Right?

Capcom has announced that the next major release in the popular Street Fighter franchise, is on its way, exclusively for the Playstation 4 and PC.

Showcasing Ryu and Chun Li, the brief trailer shows off the upgraded visuals compared to its predecessor, complete with extra features such as destructible environments, new moves, and the return of old favorites, like Ryu’s Denjin Hadouken!

Fighting games were all but dead to the general public in 2009 when Street Fighter IV arrived, reviving the classic series after a 10 year hiatus in terms of the core series. Like it did in the early 90’s, the sequel helped bring the genre back to prominence, leading to 2D fighter renaissance, mostly headed by numerous re-releases in typical series fashion. With this announcement, it seems like Capcom is ready to move the series forward much faster than it has in the past.

But with this excitement comes a bit of skepticism. From what we’ve seen, SFV looks so much like IV that I thought it WAS IV at first glance. Every new iteration of the game has had huge visual and game play alterations, making each version stand out as its own game. With V though, it’s clear that it’s leaning heavily on the style of its prequel. And even with the combos and moves shown in the video, all of them except for Chun-Li’s air attack were recreations of moves from Street Fighter III, showing that the new game will borrow from that iteration as well, although how much so is yet to be seen. Will V be able to carve its own path of the warrior? Or is the number in the title there because they ran out of ways to say “Super”?

It’s hard to say based off of one minute of footage, but we’ll be watching this game closely as details emerge. Make sure to check back as information becomes available, and let us know what you want to see from the next Street Fighter release!

Briefly: Well this is a kick-ass trailer, and as disappointed as we were when Batman: Arkham Knight was pushed far into 2015, we’re more than happy with the way it looks to be turning out.

Today’s trailer is called the “Ace Chemicals Infiltration Trailer: Part 1”, and shows Bats saving workers from an infiltrated chemical plant. We also see some amazingly bad-ass usage of the Batmobile, as well as… You know what, just watch the trailer, but only if you feel like immediately pre-ordering the title.

Briefly: Five long months ago, Sony announced the official, final release date of their long-delayed social racer, Driveclub, and now we’re just a few days away from finally getting our hands on it.

Sure, we still don’t know how the game plays, but we’re well aware of how freaking gorgeous it looks. I’ve been watching loads of new footage for the game over the past few weeks, and there has been nary a video that hasn’t had me whispering ‘wow’ under my breath.

Sony has just released a new, ‘all action’ trailer for the game, and it features plenty of impressive accolades from a variety of publications. I’m very excited to give it a shot next Tuesday, and it’s pretty amazing that Playstation Plus members will get a huge chunk of the game for free.

Tritton, Logitech, Astro, Turtle Beach, Corsair. These are the names prominently rolled of the tongues of people when asked what gaming headset they recommend. With Gamdias being relatively new to the scene, having their name to be among the list of recommendations would be great. With their latest headset, the Eros V2 just might make the list.

The Eros V2 gives a false first impression. When I first unboxed the headset, it had that cheap plastic shine, which is amplified by how light the headset was in my hands. After fondling the headset a little more, I found the construction solid with any worries of breaking it erased from my mind. Against my better judgement, I even threw the headset as if I was in a rage from losing a game. I am happy to say that the Eros V2 survived my indiscretion.

Eros V2

With the Eros V2 being a virtual 7.1 gaming headset, my ears enjoyed the tunes pumping from the speakers. Since the surround sound is virtual, software is needed to put the headset to its full potential. The Gamdias EOS software mirrors most of what you see with Realtek onboard soundcards. Options for selecting stereo, 5.1, or 7.1 for the speaker setup are present with Dolby sound settings as well. There is an equalizer that if you leave on default, everything will sound a little flat and lifeless. You could tweak the equalizer to get that perfect sound but I found the presets to be good enough. After some experimentation, the soft rock preset was what I settled with. This preset gave the right amount of fullness to make anything from music to video games sound great.

In-line volume controls are serviceable with buttons for muting the mic and sound altogether. The convenience of a notification light for the mute buttons are missing. When playing Dota 2, I would panic if no one would respond to me after calling out to my teammates. Also, there is no clip to keep the volume controls nearby for easy access. Having to reach for the controls on the floor to adjust the sound or mute is a distraction that I didn’t need.

Eros V2

Since the Eros V2 can unplug from the in-line controls to reveal a 3.5mm plug, there is flexibility in its uses. Gamdias boasts that this headset will work on a PlayStation 4 if you plug it in to a DualShock 4. The sound quality is not as good as it is on the PC but leaps and bounds better than the included earpiece that Sony packages in the the system. The mic works, which is great, but there is noticeable background noise present. It’s not the best but it’s clear enough for people to make out what you’re saying. The quality of the mic on PC is a little better with some of that background eliminated but not quite as good as I would want it to be.

The one major thing that holds back the Eros V2 from being an amazing headset for me is the tightness of the ear cups. The pressure that this tightness puts on my ears is painful. Since I wear glasses, this amplifies the pain more when wearing the headset for more than an hour at a time. To save my precious ears from crying out for help, adjusting the headset every hour alleviated the oncoming pain. Although this is a solution, it forced me to pay more attention to the headset than the media I was consuming.

Despite the tightness of the ear cups, I feel the Eros V2 is a pretty good headset. Sure, the mic is average and there’s no indicator light for the mute button, but the Eros V2 has enough quality for the price. Gamdias is well on its way from being the new kid on the block, to rubbing elbows with the popular crowd.

The next installment of the popular Batman: Arkham series has just announced the release date of Batman: Arkham Knight: June 2, 2015! So, you’ve got awhile.

The release date is not the only announcement, however. So, not a lot of difference between the two packs except said Batmobile figure. And the $100 difference. So expect a few artsy and not-so-artsy pictures of the thing on your Instagram feed next year. I think the Hefe or Willow will work best. I still have yet to purchase any of the new-generation consoles, but Arkham Knight might change my tune. We have until June. We can all relax for a little bit.

After playing the Avengers and Spider-Man Play Sets at E3, we were already confident that the campaigns would easily surpass the level of freedom and fun offered by its predecessor. As if these two open world sets weren’t already enough, a post launch Guardians of the Galaxy story was revealed just in time for the film’s big release. At Comic Con, we got some time to play within the confines of Knowhere, and found that despite being part of the same game, this Play Set manages to stand out as its own, unique experience.

Unlike the open world sand box games that the previous two sets play like, the Guardians set plays much more like an action/platforming title, facing off with waves of enemies while you traverse the mechanical environments. Featuring large scale battles that will pit you against everything from foot soldiers to enemy space ships, there’s no telling how much crazier the full set will actually be, all the way up to the inevitable showdown with Ronan The Accuser.

Each of the Guardians plays distinctively from one another, which is further showcased by the huge skill tree that has become one of the cornerstones of the upcoming sequel. For example, Star Lord uses a mix of his pistols and jet boots for a variety of attacks, Gamora relies on her sword to cut down the opposition, Drax displays his strength and battle prowess with his twin knives, Rocket fights with his arsenal of explosives and automatic guns, while Groot’s slow, lumbering movement balances out his immense power and long reach. In addition to their standard combat abilities, special moves also come into play, which charge up as enemies are defeated. Gamora’s increased speed and Drax’s power boost, for example, further distinguish each character, which will surely lead to sibling fights when the game is available for purchase.

Rounding out the cast in the demo version were Yondu, (who also appears as a temporary support character through his Marvel Sidekick Power Disc), The Collector, and Cosmo the Dog, who all provided missions for the team to tackle as the adventure progressed. Sadly, Howard the Duck was nowhere to be found, but there’s still time between now and this holiday to squeeze him in. What do you say, Disney? It has to be done!

From what we’ve played, it looks like we have three varied campaigns, a nearly limitless world creator with the Toy Box, and numerous ways to customize our favorite characters. The first game had six Play Sets by the time it was all said and done, so it’s safe to say that there will be even more in store for us as the game ages. Perhaps an X-Men Play Set?

Remember during Sony’s E3 press conference when they announced that Sony consoles would get an exclusive Disney Infinity 2.0 collectors edition, featuring The Hulk? Well, after over a month of silence since, the package has finally been revealed, and it includes a lot more than just angry Banner.

Included in the package is the entire Avengers team from the film, including the three standard pack ins, (Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow), in addition to Captain America, Hawkeye, and of course, Hulk. The green giant will only be accessible through this package for the first month, at which point, he will be released in stores for everyone’s consumption. But who really wants to wait a month to complete the team?
And yet, that’s not all that the collectors edition has in store for us. In addition to the three extra figures, every box will come with a huge Infinity Base that doubles as a display, featuring a humongous Frost Giant in the background. Said to glow when plugged in, this base is the perfect way to both play, and display your new Marvel figures in style.

Retailing at $149.99, paying double the price for a game that already promises to eat through your wallet with its numerous characters to buy is a bit of a hard sell. Yet, if you’re planning on buying all of the characters, and they continue to retail for $12.99 each, it seems like a good idea to plunk down the extra thirty bucks or so for the base too. Plus, I’m already imagining displaying a super team to take down that giant. Frost Giant vs. Snow Queen, anyone?

In addition, the announcement also detailed a new PS3 bundle, featuring the standard starter pack and a 12gb console for $249.99, so if you have kids who want the game, but no PS3, this seems like the way to go. Too bad there aren’t any console bundles that include the collectors edition.

With so many games fighting for your dollar this holiday season, are the Frost Giant base and early access to play as Hulk enough of a reason for you to pick up this deluxe edition?

If a recently leaked ad from GameStop is to be believed, then it looks like crowbar boy himself, Red Hood, is coming to Batman: Arkham Knight by the way of pre-order DLC.

In the past, bonus characters like Deathstroke and Nightwing have been contained to side modes, never getting a real chance to explore Gotham in the same way that Batman could. But as mentioned with the Harley Quinn DLC that every retailer will give out when pre-ordering the bat’s next game, Red Hood’s content will be a side story, giving him his own time stage to shine on once the highly anticipated final chapter of the Arkham series is finally released.

With this announcement, part of me is hoping that this isn’t where the extra story content comes to a close. Who wouldn’t love to play as Nightwing, Robin, or so many other members of the Bat Family in a full fledged Gotham City? Normally, I’m a staunch opponent of absurd amounts of DLC, but the Arkham games have earned the reputation of being full, rewarding experiences without extra content, so I would trust Rocksteady on this one. One thing is for sure though, the chances of me finally getting my Huntress DLC are looking slim.

In a move that will likely surprise absolutely no one, Activision has announced that the upcoming Skylanders: Trap Team, the fourth game in the title that started the “toys come to life”, craze, will receive its very own limited edition.

Titled the “Dark Edition”, Trap Team seems to be following very closely in the footsteps of its predecessor, Swap Force. Each package contains Raider colored versions of the standard pack ins, which include Snap Shot and Food Fight in addition to a Life and Water trap. Coming exclusively to this version however, is this badass looking fire lion, (appropriately named Wildfire), and a black Kaos trap, designed to capture the longtime series antagonist. The package will retail for $99.99.

Collectors are sure to eat this up, and I know plenty of people who wouldn’t mind dropping the extra cash for the alternate colors and bonus figures. Having said that, I REALLY hope this trap isn’t the only way to capture Kaos. The ability to do so has been a big selling point after all. And it’s too bad that they didn’t decide on some other gimmick, since we already got Dark Spyro and Dark Eruptor from the 3DS versions and a Dark Edition of Swap Force. I mean, aren’t there any other ideas other than painting them black? I sense a Rolling Stones song in the distance…

There’s no word as to whether or not this version is a Toys R’ Us exclusive in the same manner the last limited edition was a GameStop exclusive, or if we’ll be able to purchase this from any retailer that we please. But with Disney Infinity brining in Marvel and Nintendo tying their Amiibos to Smash Bros, Skylanders will have more competition than ever when it comes to your toy buying dollar. Let’s hope the game continues to build on its much improved prequel to stay strong in the public eye. See, folks? Competition at its finest!

For the first time in his long, storied career, Sting, the icon of WCW, (and TNA I guess…), will step foot in a WWE ring! Only in this case, it will be in the video game realm of WWE 2K15 in the form of pre order DLC.

Featuring both the early 90’s “surfer” Sting as well as the “Crow” Sting that would become his trademark look, the wrestling legend will join a roster featuring many of today’s biggest talent, such as cover boy, John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt. Nearly any dream match you’ll ever want to put together can now be possible, even the long clamored for showdown between Sting and The Undertaker. Considering recent events, that might be the closest we’ll ever get to actually seeing the match play out!

But what makes this announcement more interesting is that after years of staunchly avoiding the WWE, this is the first official appearence he’s made for the company since becoming a free agent last year. Aside from an unannounced ten second clip about the Ultimate Warrior after his passing, (RIP), seeing new Sting content in anything related to Vince McMahon’s company is sure to excite wrestling fans both new and old. Besides, everyone who’s appeared before signing a contract in the past, (Brock Lesnar, Ultimate Warrior), have returned within that year. Can the same be said for Sting? Only time will tell, but I’m crossing my fingers.
